Reviews of Military Aviation Museum
Kurt Z
Excellent experience! Docents are very knowledgeable, entertaining even! Nice that they point out the genuine restored aircraft and the replicas. Display aircraft are easy to photograph and the main hangars are open to explore. The tour of the British control tower and the German hangar were very good.
I would recommend anyone visiting the Hampton Roads area make it a point to visit.
Kelli Hale
The museum is very well run and the tour guides are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Our guide, Warren, an Army veteran, was absolutely wonderful. You could tell how much he loved his job. Many of the planes are still flyable. Overall, it was extremely informative and well worth the cost of admission. If you do go, make sure to leave time to do the guided tour to the other areas (it's free with admission).

Wow, what a beautiful little museum. The workers/volunteers were such a joy to interact with. It was was great to see people who enjoy working there. They were also quite knowledgeable about the planes they had in the exhibits. Definitely something to check out if you are interested in military aviation. Also great for most children.
Brett Stroup
I quite enjoyed this experience as the people are well informed and very intelligent when discussing the issues or the air craft and WWII. A lot of sights to see and it's another great place to take children if you are vacationing near Virginia Beach or Norfolk. Has a nice little gift shop and plenty of picture art 🎨 on the walls for those who enjoy the creative side of themselves. Good times👍
Michael Hrycyk
One of the best displays of WWI and II aircraft I’ve ever seen. Tour guides were very knowledgeable and understood what drove the development of each aircraft. Expected to do a quick 1+ hour tour and stayed for almost 4 hours. The detail of the restorations are unmatched. Well worth the visit.
Irene Williams
A nice museum with very helpful and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. We got to see the museum plus 4 hangars: international, navy, world war I, and German world war II. The signage could be a little clearer but volunteers were eager to answer any questions. We also saw some planes take off. If you book ahead of time, you can take a ride in a plane for about $200 depending on the plane and length of time. It's hot in the summer so bring some water and a fan!

Volunteers made this place worth it! Ladies at the register weren't all that friendly but got past that once the volunteers told us many many stories and answered all of our questions. My 9 yr old son really enjoyed this place. I even quizzed the kids on the trip off this museum. The hanger tour is a must also!!

My husband is a veteran, and I am suddenly interested in going to seeing military history. I did research and chose this one. We drove 3 hours. This place was smaller than what we expected. But it’s a great place to see historic airplanes and aircraft. The volunteers are very knowledgeable of their history. They were willing to answer any questions.
Also, we went there with a 3 year old, and my son touched the airplane right behind the front desk. We got yelled because he touched the airplane. It happened when we entered the museum after 2 minutes. I think it is better they put a guard line around the airplane if this is a very serious issue for them. We didn’t feel welcome. But we talked about it to the front desk lady, and then the person who yelled at us apologized to us. We appreciated that she apologized. I apologized as well if there was a miscommunication.
Overall, we had a great experience and had fun activities on the second floor. We will visit again if we are around this area.

Best museum ever! Very cool, absolute fun, and educational! I went on the guided tour at 1:30 pm today with Warren Curd. He was very funny, and in my opinion, was the best one there! Hope Warren sees this :)
Ashleigh Sowards
This museum was a complete surprisingly amazing time. From the free Jerassic Park to cheap admission to events held, it's an unbelievable place. We ended up going on a whim because my fiance wanted to be a pilot and it was Women's Flight Day, my daughter got to fly for FREE and it's normally 295$. It was amazing, they had so many different planes and exhibits and extraordinary people. Recommend it for all ages, admission was cheap too, and their gift shop and cashiers were amazing and hilarious. We will def be back!!!!!
Martha Roderick
This place was so awesome!! The hangers had historic naval and army airplanes and there are volunteers there to answer every question you have. One gentlmen was a navy airplane mecanic for 20 years and spent some time visiting with us over engine functions.
Amanda Wakeling
My husband and I enjoyed walking around the museum. Lots of history to read and the volunteers were so nice and informative. We even got to see a couple of the planes take off.
Hope Myers
As the wife of a military aviator, I always enjoy going to museums that celebrate the history of flight. This one ranks in the top of the many Ive visited! Carefully curated collections of rare military aircraft. The WWI hanger alone is worth the trip! Our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. Worth a trip if you’re staying in VB!
Jaime Dymond
My father and I visited and took a tour with Warren. He was so knowledgeable and personable! We really enjoyed seeing all of the planes and we both learned quite a bit. We would highly recommend (especially Warren!)
Melissa Willis
Very informational! They have volunteers walking around if you have questions. They have some guided tours as well. Some of their planes are still able to fly. They do air shows, flight tours and all! As our 13 year old says this is a great way to learn about how aviation improved overtime. They have a flight simulator that the kids really enjoyed. The only downfall is there is no air condition in the hangers so it's pretty hot and stuffy but they do have cold water to drink.
Mindi Stavish (Simply Stavish)
We visited on our way to VA beach and had a great time! Lots of World War I and 2 planes and a rebuilt old watch tower. My kids loved the upstairs area with flight simulators.
Natalie Conrad
This is the best historical military plane museums we have ever seen. Well maintained and refurbished war planes that actually saw action for the most part. Our favorite part of the trip to VA Beach!
Donny B
A nice collection of vintage aircraft well displayed. Unexpected Dinosaur Park near the entrance was a blast. We enjoyed our afternoon here.
Hannah Kilpatrick
An amazing little gem tucked away in a beautiful spot at Virginia Beach. Dozens of planes in beautiful flying condition. I've seen WW2 attractions all over the country, and this was among my favorites. Please train me to be a pilot, I want to fly the Amelia Earheart plane.
Gregory Moran
So much to do and see here, this could easily be many hours of entertainment for aviation enthusiasts of ALL ages. They also have an impressive collection of pristine WWI and WWII aircraft, which are still air worthy, and fly regularly.
The Wildthings
This place is amazing!!
Worth the price and the staff was so nice all of them!
And u get to see dinosaurs too it is perfect match for our family airplanes and dinosaurs makes the perfect roadside attraction;-)
Philippe Viau
We spent 4 hours at the museum and there's so much to see. The guides there are volunteers (some of them veterans) and tell us personnal stories about particular planes which makes it even more interresting. I highly recommend for everyone to go and take a look.
/M0ther_bra1ned/
Wonderful museum. They have a great collection of mostly airworthy aircraft. And the volunteers here love to talk about aviation. A must visit location for any aviation lover in Norfolk.
Ying Li
There are expert volunteers answering all questions you have. I asked like why this plane was painted this way, could this plane only fly to aim, was this plane the actual one in the war or a dup. They know the history and they know the present. They know how to fly these old babies and they know how to answer dummy questions. Some materials were aluminum and fabric and they were hollow. I wonder if they can answer what do they find in common for the planes in World War I and II, ad when the III will come - no, no such thing as World War III till the end of human, hopefully.
Michael A Berry
Great experience and there were far more airplanes than I anticipated seeing. It's wonderful that many of the aircraft we saw today are functional as well.
Dallas
Great exhibits from what I understand one private owner. The facility is laid out in a very nice professional manner. Most of the examples you see are flyable and they have an air show every year. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. If you like planes, we're going to be down, it's worth going to see. Check out the website for any exhibitions that may be going on and pricing.
ronald hinkle
Incredible collection if historical war aircraft! I loved it! You can walk up and around each one and touch!
wayne olsovsky
What a totally awesome experience seei g WW1 and WW2 Aircraft all in excellent flying condition. I'm looking forward to returning for more exploring.
Constance L
Great place to visit. Staffs are super nice. Ticket price is reasonable. The kids will love this place. The main museum has 2 levels. There is also a WWI hanger museum outside the main place which is few minutes walk. You can feel free to visit the Jerrassic park at entrance area. Free admission.
Kevin Lightfoote
What a truly impressive collection of aircraft. The staff was friendly, and knowledgeable. Speaking to the DOSA felt like having a conversation with a new friend. This collection has some very unique and rare pieces. Can't wait for my next visit.
Rosa Sanchez
I mean WOW! My family and I came here for a “quick tour” and ended up staying most of the day there. Absolutely an amazing experience. The volunteers were super knowledgeable and they were super approachable, friendly and kind. My daughter was blown away with the information she was given and so amazing to know that there is an amazing place holding history and keeping it safe. They do offer military discount, but unfortunately they only have one adult discount and didn’t give me discount for my mother which is my dependent as well.
Jeannie Redner
Excellent experience. Warren was an informative tour guide. He had a lot of knowledge about the planes and a clear passion for what he does. Recommend to everyone.
Valerie Jackson
Wonderful! Attended the Women can fly program with my 17 year old Granddaughter on Sept 10, 2022. Awesome to see her actually control the plane and see herself one day flying. Thank you so much pilot Susanne Collins and all who provided this wonderful event!
Trishann Green
It was my 11 year old WWI and WWII enthusiasts dream come true!! It really was as astounding as we had hoped it would be when planning our trip to see it! Seeing them in person, speaking with those who work and volunteer there fed into his passion! They were engaging and very knowledgeable. We loved it and plan on coming back again this year and bringing friends! Thank you for a great experience and thank you all so much for continuing to preserve history for many more generations to see and experience! P.S. The German aircraft hangar was his favorite!!! We are still talking about it hours later!!!
JZXJZ
Extremely cool place. All of the employees/volunteers are very enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. If you go, try to take the tour they offer of the other hangars. It’s well worth it
Linda Swanson
Brilliant collection of 70 pre World War I and World War 2 military aircraft. This private museum has authentic English artifacts and a reconstructed hanger and air control station. Extremely knowledgeable guides, many of whom are former former military pilots. 40% of the planes are routinely flown. Highly recommended.
Carol Andersen
Love this museum, but especially loved the active aircraft out on the grass strip. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. In addition to the aircraft, other military displays showed period uniforms and equipment. The enigma machine was especially fun.
Michael O'Reirdan
Ok, I admit it, this has been a good year for aeroplanes. Duxford, the De Havilland Museum, Stowe Marie, the Imperial War Museum and now this one. It is on a par with all of them from the quality of the exhibits, the location, the docents to the context with which they are displayed. Many of the exhibits are flyable replicas but to be honest that for me is irrelevant. I don’t mind if the plane was built a hundred years after it’s predecessors on the production line. The originals are stunning. Where are you going to see such a collection of genuine WW2 Soviet aircraft outside of Russia or the old Eastern Bloc countries. They have a flying Mosquito and they are up there in rarity with rocking horse manure as my old friend from the East End of London would say. I was particularly taken with the Polikarpov PE2 as flown by the legendary Night Witches and the Polikarpov I153 Chaika. Sometimes you get to see a plane and it’s just surprises you because you had no idea one even existed any more. In this case the plane is a North American P64. It was also known as the NA-68. Only 13 were built destined for the Thai Air Force. They were never delivered and brought back to the USA where they were called a P64. This thing actually flies and apparently it’s like a Harvard on steroids. Anyway, what a great museum, it’s a gem and to be honest it has it all, location, planes, people and other exhibits. To be fair even f they are not flying, it is worth at least four hours and if you are a plane nut, probably a day. On top of that, they have regular flying days, just like Shuttleworth. I’m so pleased I went and as is said elsewhere in an Austrian accent “I’ll be back”.
Karen Gould
I had a blast on my birthday riding in a bi plane. What an experience. I highly recommend anyone to do this. So much fun and we had a blast touring Virginia Beach. Do the 30 minute ride versus the 15 minute.
Rob Morris
Awesome staff, great aircraft and the best way to get up close with history. I highly recommend the Warbird’s over the beach show. WW1 WW2 and many other aircraft. From trainers to a flying boat.
Jack Lansford
Great museum full of WW1 and WW2 aircraft. Make sure you take the guided tour of the two west hangers.
Joe
Excellent place to see WWI & WWII planes. Most of them are still being flown. Got a chance to see the control tower. Make sure you get a chance to do their tour guide.
MattiasFen
The museum was excellent. I went on a tour of the Control Tower from England and the German Hangar. My favorite part was the tour of the German Hangar, but the WW1 Hangar was really cool too! The gift shop was pretty large, with lots of things to choose from. I left with an amazing memory and a good book.
S Hazer
Our first visit to a amazing Dinosaur Park, its small but very detailed with the dinosurs sculptures, we will definitely be back to visit the museum as well. And its Free 😊 for the dinosaur park.
MV C
It was an amazing experience! My family and I enjoyed our time there. We went there on a spur of the moment trip.
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable! I love their passion for the history behind aviation history.
If you have Littles, definitely recommend a stroller or wagon and a selfie stick 😀
Melissa Knaffl
This is an amazing collection of WW aircraft from both the army and the navy. Pretty unbelievable that a private collector could amass a collection this huge. The docents working there all know so much about the aircraft.
David Benton
Had a great time at the Museum.
Awesome volunteers.
Reasonable prices.
Rob Minto
Was nice. All planes actually operable. Nice for Military history enthusiasts or just aircraft enthusiasts.
Joshua Hyde
Simultaneously fantastic and awful. I suppose you could consider this an angry customer review, unfortunately. I truly am extremely upset. We arrived at 3 pm and the facility advertises that they close at 5 pm. WE DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THE WWI HANGAR CLOSES AT 4 PM. I asked if it was possible for the four of us (wife and I plus two kids) to come again tomorrow to see the WWI hangar and were politely told that was not possible because when we arrived, it was still open so we had a chance to go. To be completely honest, there is a small sign at the front desk where you check in letting you know the WWI hangar closes at 4 pm. However, I had my two rowdy kids when I walked in and missed it.
You could see this and think ok that's your own fault, I get it. But truly, with some compassion, (and the fact that there isn't a valuable resource being taken up by coming for a second day), you'd think they'd let a guest THAT JUST SPENT $60 IN THE GIFT SHOP come back to see what they had missed.
The rating is 3 stars overall, because although I'm upset over missing what I was excited to see, the volunteer staff that were in the front hangars were fantastic! The aircraft were in great shape and my daughter and I loved seeing them.
That last 10 minutes there though after making my gift shop purchase, walking the .8 mile stretch down the road just to find locked doors and walking back to get that response... it was just a cold business decision.
Andi Koch
I learned more here than in school! The best part was the WWII hanger in the back with volunteers (and veterans) telling you real stories about the planes. There was also a great display on the second floor of the main building for women aviators which was pretty cool! We got to see them moving around some of the planes and everyone was friendly and excited to talk to you or tell you about the planes and history. Definitely worth checking out!
Ayssar Odat
A great place to see planes from The first and second world war some of them can fly and you can see them taking off
They got a plane trip you can participate
Matthew Stokes
Awesome museum lots of history and a ton of planes an old watch tower and a reproduction air hanger
Brian Wilson
If you enjoy any aspect of aviation, this place is a must see. I have been to aviation museums all over the country, and this one is my absolute favorite! The entire collection is in flying condition and the very extensive. WW1 collection is the best I have ever seen. Great volunteers that share their knowledge and love for this great place.
Sandra Bates
This hidden gem, is a treasure! The most unfortunate thing, is that I had no idea it existed. I went on a trip with my college but I will be taking my kids sometime soon. Their love of airplanes will shine the day we all get to go!
Dina
A hidden gem! Highly recommended for flight, aircraft and history enthusiasts. If your kids are into airplanes they’ll love this place. They also have a dinosaur park for little kids outdoors. You can book a private flight for an additional charge. We booked a flight and there was a misunderstanding regarding the date. The matter was resolved promptly and they went out of their way to make it happen for us. There’s a nice gift shop for souvenirs. Will be coming back.
Amanda Hicks
This is always a unique place to visit. The museum staff and volunteers love interacting with kids and helping them get excited about aviation and history.
Courtney Ritchings
We didn't make it to see everything but it is full of WWI and II artifacts. The gift shop has some fun and well made items. We enjoyed seeing the planes, vehicles, uniforms, and reading the history.
John Miller
Great museum if you are an airplane fan. They have planes from various countries (American, Russian, German, French to name a few) scanning from the WWI Era to post WWII. They also have some other military equipment and a few cars. Guides were very helpful with discussing if you had any questions. My son in law and I could have spent three days here. The wives and grandkids were happy with a couple hours.
Matthew Stokstad
Cool museum of which the majority of the planes still fly. Very well informed guides.
Monica Arciga
This museum was awesome. I'm not an airplane enthusiast, but these were quite interesting. There is a WWII hanger and a WWI hanger. The volunteers are super knowledgeable and very friendly. I learned a lot about war planes. Come on a summer Saturday to catch an airplane show. In spite of the fact that you can't touch anything, my two boys, 4 and 7 yo, were intrigued the entire visit. Big parking lot available. Don't forget to stop by the dinosaur park on your way out. Entrance fee required to the museum, dinosaur park is free.
Johnathan Caballero
Great place to see historic airplanes. Most of them are still airworthy and are frequently flown which is amazing. The guides are very knowledgeable of their history, are really friendly and are more than welcome to answer any questions.
Suggestion: there’s a hangar at the end of the street leading up to the museum with World War I planes. You should really check it out if you want to get most out of your visit.
One minor inconvenience is that we had to walk outside for 10 minutes or so since you need to leave the car in the parking lot. Nothing to complain about if there’s good weather :)
Also, we went there with a 4 year old.. since the gift shop was right at the entrance, all he could think about was getting a tor from there, which is nice but distracted him the whole trip.
It would’ve been great if the gift shop was located towards the end of the tour area like in most museums.
Overall, we had a great experience and took some awesome pictures.
Jennifer Pratt
Impressive! Really friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. All of the planes fly and they have airshows. It's off the beaten path and totally worth it. We started our day here, then traveled to Cape Henry and then hit Virginia Beach. Made for a full and fun day!
Tiberius Currahee
Great little museum to visit. On a completely minor note; I saw my first Space Force flag next to the other four DOD branches. The other three uniformed services flags weren't there, but to a veteran, one notices. Great range of displays and wide variety of toys to buy or play with for the kiddies.
eric crossley
Great time, my son greatly enjoyed it. The free tour was amazing, Warren was our tour guide you could just tell he was excited to tell everyone about everything.
Yosef Polinsky
Amazing selection of real military aircraft from many theaters, including bombers and fighters such as Yaks, a Bf-109, a B-25 and many more. My visit was a fantastic experience. I'd say it's well worth the trip for a military aviation buff.
Sue Belair
This is a really interesting museum. We had a guided tour of the WW1 and German hanger and the Goxhill watch station. All authentic planes most of them fly. There is also a fun group of metal dinosaurs at the entrance, so cute!
September Johnson
Went to an outdoor gathering at the Military Aviation Museum sponsored by Priority for their employees. They know how to make their people feel valued: Superb music, great food and caterers, historic venue, and plenty of fun, family friendly activities. So well organized and something for everyone. You just want to stay!
Fantasydiver
Performed for The National League of POW-MIA Families organization, hosting Viet Nam Era Veterans and families at the museum. It was a wonderful experience. As someone interested in WWII history, I'm grateful for what the museum does in maintaining those amazing aircraft.
Oscar Gilbert
I want to live there so I can stare at the amazing collection of aircraft they have assembled. The volunteers are extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the WW1 aircraft
David Santacruz
Amazing experience. Warren and his grandson Gannon led an outstanding tour. Super engaging and well paced. I’ll be going back with my wife when we’re in town.
Jim Ledbetter
A ton of inventory from planes to cars. Excellent day trip.
C H
We had the best experience at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia. We stayed for the free hanger tour and had the best tour guide we have ever had. Gene was so informative and literally was the nicest guy, you can tell he was a teacher before instantley. We learned so much from him and enjoyed our visit so much that we are coming back in the summer to fly in one of the planes on there weekend paid events. He took so much time to explain everything to us and answered all of our questions. We even tried to tip him after our tour when we got back to the main building and he declined and then walked us over to the donation box for the museum. We have done over 20 aviation museums across the country and many tours but the staff at this one were beyond great. The collection of aviation history restoration here was incredible. Each side of the main building we had several guys explaining each plane in detail before our amazing tour with Gene. Great job and we will be back soon. Thank you Gene and the rest of the team at the Miliatry Avaition Museum. You made our vacation amazing.
ACE Electrical Services
Had a great experience! Amazing collection, not just of planes but automobiles and relics from all over the world. The staff was very knowledgeable and eager to share. Would love to go back and enjoy a ride in one of the planes.
Amelia Rose
We went here for Biplanes and Beers. It was fun and educational. This is a great place to come with friends and children. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful. The money is worth it knowing that it all goes to the education, restoration and preservation of the historical aircraft. This venue houses an amazing display of American history.
R H
Museum with working aircraft from both world wars allied and axis and soviet planes a hangar brought over from Germany. Guide was extremely knowledgeable. Many very cool aircraft to see. A great history lesson of military aviation.
Carol Hamlin
Spent an enjoyable afternoon, staff was extremely friendly, Went on a guided tour with Greg P. and Mike H. both very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, really enjoyed Greg's animated personality, thanks to the both of u guys, will be back for the summer air shows.
Elizabeth Christy
Unbelievable hidden gem! All original, working aircraft in perfect condition. Many of them are used in film- we saw the bomber they used the make “Midway!” The staff were veterans and extremely knowledgeable. Wonderful museum!
Lisa Rogers
A hidden gem! So many airplanes to see and the volunteers have so many stores to share. We took the guided tour as well as the self guided. Unlike many museums, you are able to walk around the entire airplane up close. They also fly the planes frequently. Highly recommend.
Sheila Nalley
We loved this place!
They had lots of old planes, and a few old cars. The attendants were very friendly and knowledgeable.
Rick Gunther
If you like planes, military, war history or any combination of those then you need to make time for this! Some really cool planes that you probably won't get a chance to see other places. If you like to read the history you will be there all day. Make time for the tour (you will get to at least 2 other hangers full of planes). Friendly staff. They also have a cool dinosaur garden that would be fun to walk through with kids.
Matthew Lambert
Great museum with lots of historical vehicles and aircraft-- many of which are still capable of flight. This museum also has temporary exhibits/events. The day of our visit there was the Christmas model train event. I would recommend a visit, even by those who aren't exactly history buffs.
Dave Johnson
Wow, I can't say enough about this museum. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable. The collection is fantastic and in working order. I would have paid double the cost to get in once I understood what the have and how close you can get to the planes. I wish I had more time to learn more about their collection. I really enjoyed the hangers they built and recoved from Germany. A must go to destination! Thank you!
Dean Wilson
Wings over the Beach today was a great show. So nicely done. Can't possibly post all my pictures. Traveled down here from MA, and was well worth the trip!! Can't wait to come back! Thank you to the Museum, all the pilots, and all the volunteers who helped pull this off. Highlight for me was the takeoff of the B-25, but everything else was on point too. Such a good show.
Michael Zabukovec
What a gem! This is for everyone one. Took our 9,12 and 2 yr old. Everyone enjoyed it. The all volunteer staff are incredibly! They all are very knowledgeable. We took a small cooler for drinks. Very clean place. So up close and personal with the planes! Ducking under and peeking inside . Big motors roaring!!! I was a starry eyed kid again. We plan to return for their fall show held on the grounds. Even if the weather is poor it's a nice time and everything can still be seen
Bill Farmer
Highly recommended if you like planes and history! This place is amazing with both an authentic WWI British hangar with planes and an authentic WWII German hangar with German planes. You need to check your times but highly recommended. The main building is also full of planes to explore.
Eman Groove
If you want to experience something different from the normal museums, this one will really open your eyes about planes and the aviation industry.
The knowledge base of the tour guides are worth the price of admission. The history of flight and the engineering behind the building and manufacturing of airplanes is a dream for museum enthusiast.
Great place to take the family. Small kids under 5 may be a little too curious and will need to be supervised by the family.
Trey O
Amazing experience! The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Also the fact that you're able to see authentic fighter jets close from WW1 & WW2 is unbelievable. This is a hidden gem and well worth the visit.
liz cress
We had a wonderful time here the planes were all a big part of history. The majority of them still get flown for air shows. We had a volunteer who took us on a tour and gave us alot of great information on the planes. It was fun to be able to understand a bit more about our war hustory.
Erin Ganson
Friendly staff, price was responsible, knowledgeable volunteers. Great authentic vintage that still fly. They even do educational stuff on Saturdays that emboldened watching them fly. Educational for the whole family!
Eddie Gonzalez
Let me tell you all about one of the best kept secrets on the East Coast. The Military Aviation Museum is an amazing experience for sure. I saw a replica of the Wright Brothers aircraft, the plane flown in the movie Flyboys, & the Luftwaffe aircraft from the Third Riech. This is also an amazing place for kids, as the have tons of activities & Gerrasic Park; clever named after the owner & founder of the museum. If you live in the area or are visiting please make this a stop!
Ryan Ruhe
Just a great place! Soooooo many planes. The volunteer staff was the best! Everyone was super knowledgeable and friendly! Even my boys loved it (6 and 3). Also a free dino park that looked rad (didn't have time to make it there).
Brianna Trainer
Do yourselves a favor. And go here. I mean it. Take the time for the festivals! It was a lot bigger than I originally thought. Every question you have about the planes is answered for the most part. Guys! 75% or more of these planes still fly! The arcticture for the hanger is beautifully done. The owner popped up while we were there. It's obvious to see the appreciation for history here. I will be returning. Its April too. If you have a zoo membership. It's free but only for April! Free parking too. Also they have dinos upfront (free to look) for the little ones.
Kim Call
Super cool museum. Great for older kids we took our 8 year old and he loved it. It would not have been a good fit for younger kids, we didn't take the 4 year old. Old fragile planes and kids that like to run, touch and go crazy just would have left me a nervous wreck. The 8 year old loved learning about the different planes and history behind them. They also had some flight simulators that were fun for both the kids and adults.
Timothy P
Great afternoon fun. You can look at mist items, touch many, and wonder, or get a tour.
Need something to do Inside? Most of the exhibits are indoors, so it's a great option for a so-so non beach day.
Carl Johnson
Best Museum experience we have ever had. They were getting ready for an airshow and were test flying several planes. Took the long tour to the other hangers and it was amazing.

Nice, well kept historical plane collection from WWI and WWII.
Worth to visit to airplane lovers when you are in the area.
Forest Platt
Not only an incredible collection of WW1 & WW2 aircraft and more than a few ground vehicles including a German 88 and a really early Ford GPW Jeep. The neat thing is most of the aircraft are flyable, and are flown at to special events every year at the museum. Kids not into planes? There is a nice garden out front with many life size dinosaurs!. The museum had a fee, but the garden is free.
Greg Glassmeyer
This was a cool museum made even better by the veterans who staffed the museum. The best part is that almost all of the planes are flown. There are a few airshows each year and I was told that 93% of the planes are in flight ready condition. I think some of the WWI planes are replicas, but the WWII planes are the real thing. During summer months, you can ride in an old Spearman trainer or a 1980's Waco bi-plane.
Shari Beasley
My daughter did her Girl Scout Gold Award with the museum and Stan Bialas was her mentor! The tours are phenomenal so much to see and stories to be heard. I would go every day if I could!!!
Latisha Summers
Great experience with the children, they had alot of planes for them to learn about. Great staff there to help you understand about the history of them. They also did a show of one plane taking off and landing,All of the kids enjoyed it. Gift shop had alot of toys and things to buy as a souvenir for a reminder of the trip.
Christine Cottone
Great museum with lovely staff! There's a guided tour of the different hangers, a flight simulator, and many amazing planes to see. As someone with no knowledge of military aircrafts (or flight history at all) I enjoyed myself thoroughly and learned a lot! Highly recommended to those in the area.
Joel Cooke
I've been wanting to come and see this museum for quite some time, as I love WWII aviation and I know that they have quite the variety of aircraft to check out. They do indeed have quite the collection of WWII aircraft ranging from US, British, German and Soviet. For the most part, those aircraft are split between two hangars - Army and Naval aviation. The downfall of this is that in the Army Hangar, they essentially have aircraft stacked on top of each other, to where you cannot walk around them and just enjoy them.
The volunteers at the museum are easily spotted due to their blue polos and are everywhere, but a majority of them didn't seem to be excited to be there, except for when the PBY did an engine run up, then they all went outside to see what was happening.
They also have a lot of a replica WWI airplanes, which was neat to see as you don't get to see examples of them everyday, but they are only accessible when you take a guided tour. What else is covered in the tour is a trip to the 'Fighter Factory' and the German Hangar where they have some airplanes and mockups of conceptual German aircraft.
I did go on a guided tour, and it's best that you allocate at least an hour for it, as my docent took time to talk about each and every single plane...even it's a duplicate of another plane that was covered. At times I felt bad for the docent as he was struggling to remember information for every single plane, getting some things mixed up, and correcting himself.
Overall this is a great museum worth spending a few hours in, but they jam a ton of planes in and too much information in on the guided tours. They need to figure out how to strike a balance between individual interaction and guided tours.
Susan Shortridge
If you like military airplanes you will love this place. Very good history. Take the tour of the hangers also.
Tammy Skiba
If you like planes used during WWI and WWII then this is a really nice place to visit. The price was reasonable for what you get to see and the the fact that's its a living museum and most of the planes are still flown today is pretty amazing. My husband who is really into model planes was in heaven. Even my 3 year old thought everything was interesting. The staff and volunteers were very nice and knowledgeable. It was great to get background information on the planes and engines on display.
Alden Burlingame
Came here with my grand son's cub scout pack for a sleepover. They gave us a great guided tour of most of the planes, etc. They have an actual airfield tower that was taken apart brick by brick in England, shipped here and reconstructed. Can't wait for the airshow in May.
Vadim Ilin
A hidden jewel of Virginia Beach, this museum has an awesome private collection of static and flying aircraft of the WW1-WW2 era. Both adults and kids will enjoy this diverse selection of warplanes from US, Germany, Russia and Great Britain. There is no admission fee for children under 5. Tours of smaller hangers don’t start until 1045.
The Bearded One
Wonderful place to see and learn about the history of fighter aircraft. A must see for any person interested in aviation. Be looking for "Wings and Wheels" 2022 at Dinwiddie airport to see some of these warbirds fly.
William Davis
Wow! Worth every penny if you are either into military history, aviation history or both.
The volunteers are awesome and actively look to answer any questions you may have. Some volunteers are also ex-pilots and have manned several of the aircraft. Take the time to talk to these people and be amazed by their history.
A vast majority of the aircraft are still flown!!
Worth your time and your money
CJ H
If you like old fashion war world II planes and machineries, this is a great place to explore. Various types of planes and history displayed in these hangers. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly to attend your questions. Good spot to spend an hour or two and to honor the military.
Shauna Hibbler-Cooley
My son enjoyed it. I liked actually seeing the plane take off!
Shihching Kraft
Parking is free and general admission is $15 per person. Free to see the outside of the museum, pay to see exhibits inside. There are six flight simulators where adults and kids can play or practice how to fly. Place also can host weddings or special events for a fee.
Martin Litnäs
Absolutely one aviation museums you need to visit, if you have the slightest interest in warbirds up to the fifties. Many seldom seen planes and a strive to restore them back to original and also keep them flying. The veteran volunteers working there are super nice to talk to and makes your visit soo much more interesting.
Bruce Gamino
Possibly the best $15 I've ever spent on a museum. Unlike most museums they actually let you touch the exhibits and if you're into airplanes from the world wars, it is amazing.
Steve Deighton
Great collection of military aircraft and historic cars, cannons, and military equipment. 1pm has a different plane flying demonstration every day through September.
BentParrot
This military aviation museum is second to non, most of the aircraft have been restored to their original glory, the staff is helpful and the docents are very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
Lorin Chism
This is the greatest and with all the aircraft fully functional and flown regularly. A must see for an Aviation Enthusiast.
ARNI SHOOK
This has to be one of the best air museum's on the east coast with plains that actually fly. The world war one exhibit is incredible. They have numerous world war two aircraft that are almost all air worthy, and they fly from time to time.
While we were there they rolled out and flew a De Havilland Mosquito and what a sound from those engines during a few fly by passes. If your into vintage War Plains this is definitely the place to go. Plus they have excellent volunteer staff who are knowledgeable about the aircraft. Highly recommend this for children above the age of 8 years and older who have an interest in aircraft.
If your going to Kitty Hawk recommend you put it on your trip plans...
John Amason
I went for a luau event after hours. It was a great experience. The food and music were on point. They did a "run-up" for one of the WW2 planes and started the engines, etc. Cool museum and cool experience. 😎
Chris Henry
This place is amazing. They have so many airplanes from World War II and before. I highly recommend taking a trip out here. If you're just here for vacation or if you actually live in Virginia Beach I would recommend it to both.
Peter Barrett
Fantastic exhibits of the first 50 years of military aviation history. The docents are very knowledgeable and the planes are amazing!
Jay Wischkaemper
Great collection. The day we were there, they were short handed on volunteers, and we had to have a guided tour of the two detached hangars. I just wanted to see the airplanes, but the docent seemed to think we needed a history lesson. With small kids in tow, it would have taken too long to get finished, so we had to leave before seeing all the planes.
Jason Hall
Fun little aviation museum. WW1 and WW2 planes split over multiple hangars with a guided tour
Jacob
Very nice museum. Thank you to the mechanic who took him out of his day to talk to me/show about the Hemi-powered generator, it made my and brother's day. 10/10
Ken Ackerman
Fascinating place. Marvelous machines. Very knowledgeable staff will tell you all about every aircraft, how it works, how wings and landing gear fold up. Great place, plus absolutely free!
LEC Smith
What an amazing museum! Much more than I thought it would be. If you like airplanes at all, this is highly recommended for a visit.
AP
Astonishing experience in this museum! I found legendary planes that actual fly! I used to make models of them. Unbelievable! Definitely recommended for enthusiasts family!
Kar Yee Lim
Neat museum. Lots of history. The hanger is super cool. Docents are knowlegeable and entertaining too
Katherine Morton
Second time I have taken the opportunity to go to the museum with my family. The perfect place to go experience; especially if you enjoy being outdoors, getting opportunities to see WWI and WWII planes flying in an open field, and getting family time together. The volunteers are great, and take the time to answer questions, share stories, and make everyone feel special for visiting.
Worth the annual membership. Looking forward to my next trip.
Aleksei Panchenko
This is amazing! I have never seen anything like it, you have an amazing opportunity to get acquainted with the history of aviation! Thank you guys for such an amazing experience!
Aous Abdo
Great museum! Very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. You can find some real gems here. Unlike other museums, this one feels alive. All airplanes, cars, etc. In this museum are functional and well maintained by the volunteers and staff. They do demonstration flights once a month or so. Definitely worth a visit especially if you are an airplane and military history buff. I wish they would advertise the museum more. We sort of stumbled upon it when we visited the next-door dinosaur park.
Jenni Salisbury
We are members here, and really enjoy the history.
Purchased a ride along for my husband.
Staff was so great, they are always a wealth of knowledge. The pilot my husband flew with Mark and had a fantastic flight.
Scott Ford
Had a great time with family. The kids got to see Santa Clause and had a great time. You can also put your phone with the camera on on one of the trains and let it go around the track. Taking video.
Tiffany Evans Putnam
Do you want to take a ride on a historical private plane? This is your place. For $200-ish you get 15 minutes in the air, and an unforgettable experience.
GDawg Productions
Very nice. If you work in Aviation or are just an enthusiast, you will enjoy this very much. The old war vehicles and planes were beautiful and was fun for everyone. Got to play pretend on the simulator a little, nothing special, a very basic computer simulation, entertains the kids a lot. A little hot in the WW1 building but all good. Gift shop has some cool trinkets but VERY expensive
Anthony Gambino
What a hidden gem ! I found this aviation museum to be amazing, especially because it's a living museum which means most of the planes are still being flown to this day. All of the staff & volunteers were very helpful and willing to answer any questions you might have. My only regret is I bought two stickers and I left them on top of the penny crank machine, I was sending them to my grandfather. Otherwise what an awesome visit. Lastly make sure to check out the dinosaurs statues at the entrance, definitely a added bonus!!
Brad Hoyt
Loved this place. I am an aviation enthusiast, but there is plenty to enjoy even if you are just young or young at heart. Lots of early planes. Play area for the kids. Three is also a dinosaur park at the entrance. Must see if you are in the area or have the time.
Jim Tinlin
A great collection of vintage aircraft. The docents were very knowledgeable and pointed out a number of special features. A great display to view if you are a fan.
Jesse Anderson
If you love aviation history this place to me is a must. And the knowledge of the volunteers is awesome.
Thomas J Ryan
A bit pricey until you go on a tour and see the other two hangars, one that was built to replicate an old ww1 hangar and another that was brought over from Germany. Seriously, they brought over a blown up hangar and repaired it to new. Their latest project is an old british radio tower. $15 is a steal.
They sure are ambitious.
Roy Blumenfeld
A must-see if you are in Virginia Beach and interested in military history. They have an extensive collection of planes from all around the world that were used in both world wars and Korea. They also have an actual RAF Control Tower and an original German hangar. The most unique part of the experience is that so many of the planes still can fly. If you get lucky (or come for an event) you might see one take off or land!
Alli Krug
Amazing air show and friendly people, re-enactors and food trucks! Museum is terrific, had no idea it existed.
Jagannath Dora
If you are interested in seeing old war planes then this is the place. They have a great collection of world war 1 and 2 planes used by German and Uk. All planes have been restored to perfection. They have tours as well and you can take a 15 mins flight for a price tag. Its all worth. Parking is free.
Derek p1l0t
Lots of aircraft, separate hangars for Army, Navy, German, etc... Actual soft field operations so even when there isn't a show you might see some banner towing, bi-plane rides, things like that. Most of the restorations are flyable!
JoAnn Wall
Large and amazing collection of air worthy World War planes.
Restored rare flight tower is impressive.
The staff of docent are very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and involved with growing, restoring, maintaining, and operating the collection.
Highly recommend visiting.
Jim Rowell
Great time! A lot of history.
Jimmy Smithers

It was a long wait, but nice to get to see this exhibit during these trying times! Enjoy!
Jimmy Wetzel
Great day for the P-51 demonstration!! Introduced my 3 year old granddaughter to aviation as she already points out every plane in the sky!! Great as always!!!
Kristen Rae
We enjoyed our tour with Bill today.
Thank you all!
TheBoostedBass52
Very fun museum and a very friendly staff. I got a Tour by Flash, He was an amazing tour guide and made the trip a lot of fun!
Ross Myrehn
Has alot of older planes from WW1 and WW2 era. Very knowledgable staff and my personal favorite portion was the cryptographic display of Enigma. Also for the kids there is a dinosaur display at the front. Tou can also gets rides on the old planes. They said that all the old style planes are functional and they fly them.
mglan80
Absolutely incredible museum and collection. The fact that nearly all are still airworthy is just amazing. The staff is well informed and friendly and the exhibits are well done. If in Virginia Beach and have even a passing interest in planes you should not miss it.
Bekah M
Super fun find on our trip!!! We loved this place, and spent hours talking to the knowledgeable staff and walking through the hangars of wartime planes.
Terry Johnson
Great place $15 for adults great tour numerous aircraft the Great War and World War II all the planes fly at the time of our visit to planes were in a movie Shoot a definite must-see if you are into airplanes they even had Russian aircraft loved every minute of it cuz you can walk right up to them
Johnathan Eaglin
This was a blast. Give yourself at least 2 hours, or, if you are like me, 3 hours if you like to read EVERYTHING and take it all in. The docents are filled with a plethora of knowledge and a willingness to impart it to you.
Stephen Reisnour
Incredible. I learned so much on the tour. This turned out to be a lot more than I thought it would be. Very nice place. Go visit!
Maria Mills
What an amazing tour we had with Tom. A lot of great information to learn about army and navy airplanes. We enjoyed it. Highly recommend it.
Aurora Weber
Amazing place! Rich with history and wonder. All of my kids loved it for different reasons. Will return. Thank you!
Dnshift & Other things!
Great museum for the whole family. Very educational and a great place to show your car.
Starla Wicks-Heath
We spent hours here! The veterans there (namely Brad... thank you sir!) Gave us a tour and answered questions. Very informative and interesting! We will go back!
LINDEN LANGBERG
Well worth the drive. 5 hangers of great old planes and other modes of transportation. Indoor and outside exhibits. Take a ride in a biwing. Super cool.
T. Beaulieu
Raymond, thank you for such a great tour and information we would have never known about! This museum is a must, such talented volunteers.
Christiana Crowe
The Military Aviation Museum quickly became our favorite place. The collection of aircraft is impeccable and watching them soar through the sky is surreal. But what makes this place so special goes far beyond that. The staff and volunteers are incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and will quite easily become your friend. From routine visits to air shows, Santa, and the most spectacular Easter egg drop, many of our most favorite memories have been made here. This place is a must and always worth the drive.
Megan McCall
Awesome experience with the kids. If you have young ones, the dinosaur sculptures at the entrance will be a huge hit. The tour was amazing for the parents (thank you, Warren) and the kids loved looking at all the planes. Highly recommend supporting this place with a day trip from VA beach!
Michael Barnes
Great experience, my 10 year old son had a great time. The staff all indulged him and eagerly answered all his questions.
Jonathan Myers
If aviation is passion of yours, this is the best place for exploring World War 1 innovation! I have been to many! aviation museums around the world, but none that had the collection of FLYING WW1 aircraft like this. The staff are all very friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. I only wish I had more time to stay and talk! Don’t miss the Saturday flights when they take out a piece of history and send it soaring through the sky! (Check out their website for the schedule)
Brian Hunter
Great place to go lots of history to be discovered. A must see if you come to VA beach. I make it a point come here every year and it's always something new to hear about
Ferrie
All planes are working.
Awesome to see.
I heard they do test flight every Saturday, if weather permits.
Sandy Steed
Awesome collection of functioning aircraft. Also a cute little Jurassic Park outside the entrance for kids young and old.
Jim Skymba
Great museum with outstanding and knowledgeable staff. We had one of the best knowledgeable tour guide name Warren
Christine
This place is great! I'm not huge into planes or history to be honest but my 11 year old wanted to see this (which surprised me tbh). It is really great and Warren the tour guide was great. He tried to really engage the kids and was very knowledgeable. I really recommend this place. Even if you don't think it's for you they may just surprise you
Sean slick
It was great to see all of these old warbirds in such great condition! We even got to see the mechanics start up an F4F Wildcat! Awesome experience!
O Bee
Definitely a must see! The docents were very knowledgeable and there was a lot to see. We will definitely be back.
Charles Clegg
Great place to go easy on the schedule and the kids loved it
Gnome Chomsky
This place gives the Smithsonian Air and Space in DC a serious run for the money. Spitfire, Avenger, Mustang, Corsair... it’s all here. You’re gonna need to visit the Davis Mothan Boneyard in Tucson to see a cooler collection of taxpayer money being spent by the military industrial complex.
Paul Hudson
The museum is fantastic and gives a very real view of how planes evolved over the early 20th Century. Warren, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour which enriched the experience. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Virginia!
Karl Werner
Great place to learn about WWI and WWII airplanes and history. Most of the planes also fly.
Randall Spenny
This is a truly fantastic museum. Great staff, and phenomenal aircraft on hand that you can get up close and personal with! Loved the WW1 end of the museum. Keep up the great work! Keep 'em flyin'!
Total Stranger
Fantastic place to visit. Very knowledgeable staff and friendly atmosphere. We visited during a cold day and there where plenty of things to see and learn. I believe they also offer plane rides during the summer months. I hope you will have as much fun as we had.
David Peterson
I stopped by on Memorial day. Was very cool and awe inspiring. They tell me all those aircraft are operational. I watched as 2 of the aircraft took off from their dirt and grass airfield. Was hoping to get a Veteran's discount but discovered simple Veteran's do not receive that discount. Still a great place to visit and learn some history.
Patti Weller
This was so amazing. We spent at least 3 hours there and was pleased to have been part of the guided tour as well. This is a must do.
Tammy Jarman
I was blown away seeing all that they had for planes. I hated to leave I know we will go back again. The guides were so friendly and knowledgeable about all the planes. Knowing all the plane fly still is ao amazing and will keep in touch on there information for there programs and air shows can't wait to see some fly.
dragons eye
They had an amazing array of airworthy aircraft from WW2 on display at the main building , highly recommended waiting to catch one of the guided tours of the WW2 german and WW1 replica aircraft. Our tour was given by a very passionate volunteer who loved what he was doing!
Derek Joe
An absolutely stunning collection of WWI and WWII era planes, most of which are in working order and are flown in the summer months. American, German, Soviet and many more. Staffed with amazing and friendly volunteers, I am confident everyone could find something interesting here. There's even a German Enigma machine and an entire German hangar that's been dismantled and rebuilt here in Pungo. Definitely worth a day trip!
Chris Baker
Decent museum. Pricey. Staff was very good. Location was out of the way. Probably won't come back.
Sue Wolf
I took my eight year old granddaughter to this Museum. She could not get enough of it. We also visited the Jurassic Park which is just at the entrance to this Museum. I also found the prices to be reasonable. Everyone was friendly. Everyone was knowledgeable. Everyone interacted with my granddaughter which was great.
Robert Dumesnil
People here are very kind, knowledgeable, and very patient with the younger kids. They just want them to learn the rich history that is here.
Melissa Richards
Very well put together, loved all the planes there
Not My Real Name
I love this place. Limited because the virus but still worth it. Staff was very informed on all planes and land vehicles. Great energy!
Mike Maxfield
Awesome treasure of a place for any aviation enthusiast. Highly recommended.
Sarah Acosta
I loved seeing all the different planes that has been used in battle. Plus we got to see a P20 take off.
Shara Lipton
It's a great place to go if you like world war 1 and 2they fly the plains twice a year
David C
There were a lot of planes from WWI and WWII there, all of them still operational and well maintained. Each one had a story to tell. We were a little bit in a rush and couldn't stay long but it was totally worth it. The volunteers are really friendly and approach you and explain how some of the different models work and where they fought. Overall a great experience.
tim scofield
I live right next door been over there quite a few times to air shows are fantastic people are very informative and very friendly
Nigel Daniel
Nice, small museum with lots of neat displays and helpful staff. Worth a trip.
Patrick Comings
Excellent military air museum. You can easily spend 3-4 hours here & still not have covered all the displays. Our volunteer tour guide (Mike) gave us a detailed 1.5 hour tour of a restored WWII hanger & control tower. Lots of vintage aircraft on display.
Patricia A Johnson
This is an interesting museum showing German war planes. They had a model of Hitlers plane to. Another hanger had shown the development of flight. The improvements were really interesting. The guides were actual pilots and mechanics who knew alot about these planes. In the main building there are several virtual flight simulators with different levels to try. It is of this airport and the area surroundings. So much fun.
Also, you can watch the planes fly on the grass field. The visit can be about 3 to 4 hours. For youngsters there are dinosaur models in the entrance. A definite enjoyable day.
Stephen Parks
This is an excellent Museum! A great collection that gives you a feel for the WWII era. The lady at the entrance register was very polite and helpful. The tour guide was excellent! You get the since that everyone one there is a family and really loves what they do! Excellent WWII air traffic control tower restoration. Amazed that they could get an original one over here to the USA. Had a marvelous time! Kind of wished I could have met the 4 legged Spitfire! Thank you MAM!
Alicia Knox
As a Virginia Beach resident I have driven by many times, and never realized how large the museum is!
The collection of World War 1 & 2 era Army and Navy aircraft is the largest I have seen, and has a remarkable number of German and Soviet planes.
Be sure to take the tour of the buildings at the far end of the property (free with admission) - the prototypes and buildings are both unique and fascinating!
R G (RG)
Great museum! Tons of planes, entrance fee is not bad.
Geoff Brasse
If you love warbirds that fly then this is a great museum for you. Almost all the vintage planes are operational and you can walk really close to them and take great photos. The docents were very knowledgeable and excited about their charge!
berlynn gonzalez
This place is really cool. There's multiple rooms you can walk through and see planes. In the warmer months you can go on a passenger ride in a world war biplane. There's also air shows where most of their planes will go out for a live performance. Veterans can go there for free. The gift shop is really nice with something for everyone.
Deronda Bishop
My daughter had her wedding here and the place was beautiful and the staff was amazing especially Mitchell
David Johnston
Lots of rare aircraft at this museum. The staff is always a hoot. The air shows are amazing!
Steve Tisdale
An impressive collection of historically important aircraft.
Britney Lowe
We took another couple here that is interested in aviation and they had a blast! The men and women that work there are very knowledgeable and able to offer such amazing insight into the history and purpose of these machines. We had a great time!
Preston Burns
Definitely go for the airplane ride! You won’t regret it!
Richard Khanna
Cool stuff! Took the boy here and we were both cheesing. Just the shear scope of the speed the growth of aviation took is mind boggling. From barely "falling slow" first flights to full blown multiple thousand horsepower metal bombers of dooooom.
Engine and turbine full size cutaways are awesome too to see the inner workings.
Kehinde Ladeji
We had an awesome time with HIStory. 🦕 Dinosaurs aint left out. …
Bo Gelinas
Love this museum the volunteers really are the best at this museum
joe Caravaglia
This is a nice museum, great for a little older audience 6+. The planes are all really amazing and the guides had wonderful pieces of information to tell you about the planes.
Graeme Gee
Visited here from a cruise ship in port it was about a 70 min drive and well worth the drive,
Very interesting collection of aircraft and all working lots of piston engine planes mostly single seaters with some trainers and occasional bombers
Tour guides helped a lot and all volunteer
Shari Sugarman
What a great museum! Filled with amazing old warplanes, and very knowledgeable staff and volunteers
Arun Nair
There was good variety of aeroplanes and it's replicas from WWI and WWII ,some of the planes were too tightly packed in the hungaar.Air show was bit disappointing, expected air stunts, but may be the plane wasn't meant for that. There is no coffeshop or eatery there, which is good and bad,by not selling exceptionally high priced items, but if you stay longer waiting for some event you will be really tired.
Brittany Holly
Cool Museum but I wish they had a discount for pilots and the stuff at the gift shop is a little expensive.
Dennis Hensel
If you like aviation history this is the place to go a lot of planes from ww1and 2 highly recommend it worth the money and time
Douglas Tallent
Great fun. Lots to see and the people are friendly and knowledgeable and helpful
Kevin Keele
This place is AMAZING! You'll get up close and personal with an expansive collection of vintage airplanes, all meticulously maintained. It's a true labor of love. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and eager to answer questions. There's a contagious passion for aviation and history in the atmosphere. This was easily one of my favorite museums I've ever been to.
Bill Kilcullen
Awesome, high quality displays, meticulously maintained equipment and incredibly knowledgeable staff. A true learning experience for young and old. Check the website for special presentations on Saturday's during the summer months!

Hugh McGinley
As a veteran, I had an awesome time seeing all the old war planes and equipment. I even got to see a b17 take off.
Gerald Hartmann
By far the best collection of historic aircraft. Every aircraft is maintained with the highest level of care and dedication. The volunteers are professional, courteous and know the history of every aircraft in the collection. The buildings and grounds are beautiful. I will certainly be back soon. I enjoyed my day at the museum.
dani khalid
Excellent experience will recommend it!
So much history in there ! We got to see the plane fly live, it was great!
Douglas Thorn
I will definitely be back when they are flying in warmer weather.
Mike Strickler
This was by far one of the best things I have ever done in VA beach. They have a great selection of planes and related items. The staff were so knowledgeable. They took time and showed us things that we would never have discovered ourselves. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend.
Greg Grady
Great museum with great staff. You can get up close and personal with all the aircraft. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The dinosaur sculptures at the entrance are also very cool.
Kendall Draughn
A must see for any and all Aviation enthusiast. The Biplanes and Brew Fest was outstanding.
GREGORY WILLIAMS
Went to 2 days of their summer of flight series to see the Wildcat and the Corsair fly. Great lectures before hand and wonderful flight demos.
James M Wilson
Excellent history for all to learn about aircraft development and use in military services. Most aircraft flyable and demonstration at air shows during the warmer weather month's.
Ground vehicles that supported the aircraft and troops are on display, also.
Jonathan Siwa
Yeah the place was kind of tight. I can't believe I lived out here so long and never knew about it. The staff was very knowledgeable. It was fun listing to what they had to say and seeing all the different planes. We will be going back later. Would love to fly in one of their yellows and see an air show.
Mark Silverman
If you need a great place for a party i was there with dj bruce silver silverman helping set up for a huge fun wedding party
Tommi Hollo

Amazing collection. Many rare aircraft from WW1 and WW2. Most in flying condition.
Joshua Bell
Great Aviation Museum with a unique twist that makes it set out from all others of its kind!
Julie Arrowood
Awesome place for your family to come visit and go back in time to WW1 & WW2 ERA with the planes. Not to mention that you can fly in 1 of 2 of the above airplanes for a ride to remember. Kids can see the Dinosaurs in the park upfront and if they play POKEMON GO this is also a place to get your BATTLEFIELD Prizes. Its a WIN WIN for the whole Family. So come on out for the day and bring your friends. YOU CAN TAKE AS MANY PICTURES AS YOU WANT BUT YOU CAN'T TOUCH OR CLIMB ON ANY OF THE DISPLAYS.
THIS IS THE POLICY OF THE OWNER NOT JUST MANAGEMENT. THANK YOU!!✈✈✈✈✈😁😁😁😁😁
Matthew Erisman
Seems like their museum collection has grown quite a bit since our last visit. Lots to look at. Volunteers were very friendly and knowledgeable. They were eager to engage guests and ensure they answered questions. Looking forward to visiting again for a biplane ride!
Alex Otte
Great place great people. Definitely recommend to see. You can learn a lot from these people.
T. Rose Glass Studio
It was awesome...my dad got to ride in a WWII Biplane....he said it was the best birthday present ever....I'm so happy we did this. It was his 80th.

A great place to visit if you have the slightest interest in WW1/WW2 aircraft. The museum's collection is quite impressive, and even more so once you learn that most if not all of the aircraft present still fly!
The volunteers are very knowledgeable and friendly. They have lots of good information about the planes and are happy to share.
Bobbe Wright
If you are a warbird enthusiast this is your nirvana…
Clara Camp
It was a great experience and the pilot was very informative.
Gavin Blake
If you like war birds from both world wars you will love it here. If you are lucky you can watch some of the planes take to the sky.
Maria
Visited for the car show in the fall. Awesome time at the show and the museum looks great, definitely want to come back for another visit.
JT
I found out about this place from a Wings documentary on the B25. I have lived in VA Beach for 5+ years and didn't know it existed. Give yourself at least 2 hrs to see the whole museum.
Tristan Figueroa-Reid
Staff are lovely and if you're looking for an aviation exhibit the staff have lots of wonderful information on anything you may ask! They even have flight simulators for children to play on.
René Pretorius
Great exhibit of planes and wonderful tour. Out guide, Warren, was very good and made it an absolute joy of a tour.
Bob Garritano
The collector wants to share this collection with all fans of aviation. It was walking back into aviation history; that you can see and if lucky watch when they fly.
Jimmie Brown
This was a great place to learn about the USA war planes pretty cool place.
karen hughes
What an amazing treasure! We went on a rainy day, but the museum was not crowded. People don't know what they're missing! The display of air craft from US, Britain, Germany, Russia and France is incredible. The entrance fee is reasonable, and includes a guided tour of the WW1 hangar and a communications bunker that was brought over brick-by-brick from England. Our guide was a pilot during the Vietnam Nam War, and his presentation was riveting. Definitely worth the trip!
Monica Van Fleet
What a fun experience! The people that work/volunteer there are so knowledgeable. Great way to spend an afternoon.
Lisa Renee Jennings
Amazing restoration and preservation of history! Must see! Be a local museum LOVEVA!
Jaime Lague
The planes were cool. The guides were knowledgable and willing to share about the different aircrafts and what their purposes were. Two of the hangars were all replicas not actual planes that were used in past military.
Jeffrey Sheelar
What a stunning collection of planes, Army and Navy mostly WWll and other equipment from the Era. Need to definitely go back.
Bruce Siegel
Well laid out buildings and displays. The volunteers, the majority of them retired Veterans were extremely knowledgeable and were not afraid to share the good and the not so good stories about the aircraft and military service. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Ken Degiorgio
Our son attended the youth summer camp and had a Great time. He came home each day eager to share all the events of the day, including fun crafts, history and science. He has told us he wants to go again next year. Thanks for a wonderful program.
Cyrus DeVirus
This was amazing place to visit. We had a staff members explain different things to us and even gave special attention to my son who was supper excited watching the planes take off and land
Gold eagle Kroll
One of the best museums for military aviation in the state of Virginia.
Gerald Sudduth
Raining so all the planes were inside which made it even better!
We were able to take our time looking at and taking pictures of all of them. The folks were nice and very knowledgeable about the history of each aircraft. Start to finish AWESOME time. Highly recommended!!
Greg Moore
My young boys loved the museum. We took the tour to see 4 hangers. The guides are excellent and knew so much!
steve bellinger
It was my first time there, got to see the air show and the exhibits. The staff was amazing, the setup was organized efficiently.
Erin Eldredge
Awesome museum, huge collection of WWI and WW2 planes. Very educational.

NC CBD Guy
My kids had a great time at the Easter Egg drop!
Shawn Zamperini
Nice little museum mostly filled with WWII stuff. Little expensive at $15 for an adult, but gotta make money somehow I guess.
Lee Mcmillan
Very knowledgeable staff had a great time at Bi-Planes & Brews
Stef Bos
Incredible selection of aircraft as well as terrific very engaged volunteers.
Chareen Lim
We visited this museum on July 4th and it was a more meaningful experience, given the day we visited it. The planes are in amazing shape and truly magnificent to see up close. Having seen some of them in movies is one thing but seeing the real things, or replicas in some cases, take it to a whole other level. There are 3 hangars to visit, each with friendly guides to provide more details and answer any questions. There's also a small gift shop. Don't forget to check out the 2nd floor as they have additional exhibits and flight simulators that you can play with. It's a great place for all ages. They even have a dinosaur park for the little ones to enjoy.
Elizabeth Mancuso
Wonderful place to visit. Period design, knowledgeable staff and volunteers, many ways to learn if aviation history. Highly recommended. We love airplanes so this museum was the perfect place to visit.
William H
Interesting aircraft from WW I and WW II, many of which are flyable. Learned from guided tour, but presenter is knowledgeable, but less than fiery in his delivery. Well worth the visit.
Kathy Robertson
The best place ever for WWI & II planes
Brad Stoops
Great history and awesome planes. The docents did a fantastic job sharing about the aircraft including fascinating back stories. Definitely worth a visit if any interest in aviation or history.
Akash Jinandra
Great museum that's hidden! Lots of history and great guides.
Britini LaBrie
The airplanes and dinosaurs are amazing. It would be nice if there was one plane kids could get into, though.
Trey Riley
Great place to visit. Pay the price to go here and enjoy the Military Aviation Heritage these people are helping to maintain & sustain. This is one way of ensuring our military history shall never be forgotten. It is a special place well worth driving out of the way to visit. Well done to the Maintainers and Aviators who do what they do because they love what they do!!!
James Wilson
The Museum started as a personal collection of military aircraft and grew to the present size of aircraft restoration, maintenance, and the capability of the flight.
A reunion group of Naval Veteran's from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam enjoyed the museum's history.
Linda Fox
Wonderful display of aircraft. Rides available. Static displays are great. Gift store has a variety of merchandise for sale.
Beth Bailey
$15 admission fee was worth it! Lots of cool planes, uniforms & shells. Volunteers were very knowledgeable.
Richard Sisler
Superb and well taken care of aircraft. Like stepping back in time.
Lance Dawson
Amazing place to see... Meticulously maintained aircraft from both world wars... You will be humbled at the size and power of these beautiful birds. And I heard rumor of food trucks coming out this spring.
Matt McCrory
Awesome place. A lot of airplanes that you just can't see anywhere else. Don't miss out on the tours of the other hangars and the fighter factory. There is now a real British control tower, and it is super cool. My son absolutely loves this place.
Neal Andrews
This place was wonderful to see! I loved seeing all the aircraft up close and learning more. They do airshows here too!
Soren Kierkegaard
Such a good museum with so many original WW1 and WW2 aircraft on display. You are not going to regret visiting this museum. Staff is super knowledged, and kind and ready to help with any question. They also have several cool antique and rare cars in their collection: a Jaguar XK 120, German 1960s Amphicar, etc. Every Saturday they fly one of their super aircraft with an informing show of it.
giles nowaks mustache (fumanchuman)
this museum is an outstanding, and unique, place to visit.
90% of the airplanes are fly-able, and ARE flown. It's even possible to arrange to ride in one.
There is no other air museum like this. Anywhere.
It even has one of the extremely rare (of 4) WWII German V-1 buzzbombs on display. It's still working pulsating-jet engine is occasionally fired up, separated from this "proto" Cruise Missile itself.
Pappy Young
This was a nice thing to do with my daughters. All of these plabe are still able to fly. The offer air shows and plane rides(for a fee of course). Overall a nice experience and they had volunteers that can answer all of your questions. Very pleasantly surprised at how much they all knew collectively. Everyone lights up at the opportunity to talk about the different displays.
ken strickland
Absolutely fabulous. I can't believe this world class collection is in our back yard. If you have any interest in planes or military history, a visit here is a must. The airshows are amazing.
B C
If you're into this kind of thing, the volunteers sure know their stuff! Lots of stuff to see and learn about. I think I am getting the ticket price correct below.
Rick Krens
A bunch of great planes and other things to see. Well worth the price of admission.
Rebecca Henning
Visiting your Museum was the highlight of my Virginia trip! Warren and Mike did an excellent job as our tour guides! It brought tears to my eyes hearing the historical facts of each war plane and how America has fought for our freedom. Thank you for your service Warren to our Country and a special thanks to all of the Volunteers and visitors who donate to preserving our Armed forces history. I look forward to my next visit!
Blessings Your Wisconsin Girl,
Rebecca
Ashley Sparks
The air show was fun might have to come back next year.
alex llorente
So much history with lots of folks ready to tell you about historical aircraft
Matthew Denney
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! "Warbids Over the Beach" is a must see! Most extensive collection of operational WWII aircraft I've ever seen. The facilities are pristine, all the employees and volunteers are enthusiastic and excited to be there. Flamethrower demonstration, Sherman tank vs. German Flak-88 shoot-out, Corsair, PBY, Spitfire, Mosquito, etc. Thank you for an awesome day!
Ron Nestor
Great place to visit lot of old military planes to see military vehicles and uniforms too
Ashley Baird
Amazing experience, the volunteers truly make the museum a great place to visit. Volunteers Mark, Glynn and Dennis were extremely knowledgable and friendly. It was like having your own personal tour guide. These men really do love and have a passion for aviation and are more then happy to share it with you. Highly recommend visiting!
Chase DeNiro
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! One of the volunteers that work there and, I don't remember his name. He drives a brand new red Hyundai. He is one of the nicest people I ever met in my life. I really enjoyed talking planes with him and he must be an Aviation or history genius. Because he really knows his s**t. The planes are absolutely amazing and you can get close enough to smell them. Just don't touch. Surprisingly many of them are still used regularly. I am eager to go back. All the way from NYC, JUST to see some of those beautiful creations in the air. In their element.
Brien sharp
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely do the tour!
Thyme Pilot
It was good there were descriptions on all of the planes, jets and other attractions, it's pretty cheap considering how much time I spent there, and there are multiple "meetups" where all the people who have payed to enter get to go on a trip to a few recreations of hangers and towers. The only downside is it was pretty dang warm but that detriment will go away with some water or not coming on spring or summer.
John Roby Morsberger
We visited the museum early on a Thursday morning. It was not crowded. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They have a large number of vintage military aircraft from the first half of the 20th Century and other artifacts from the World Wars.
David Buras
Really a nice and informative place. Had a really good time.
Melvin Byrd
It's on the edge of no where, but up close and personal access to vintage aircraft and dozens of caring and engaging curators!
Maria Marshall
This place is great! Worth the trip, and one of Va Beach's best attractions! Tour through the hangars was great. Thank you Lar! If you like WWI and WWII aviation, this is the place to be. Friendly and knowledgeable staff! And don't forget to let the kids get a picture with the dinosaurs! Can't wait to come back for the Air Show!!
Chris Sprenkle
Awesome trip. If you love WW1 and 2 era aircraft, this place is the place to be. Lars, I think that was his name, is a great tour guide. Prior Naval Aviator with great stories. A bit soft spoken, or maybe I'm just deaf, but the man is loaded with incredible amounts of history.
The museum and its other hangars are loaded with magnificent aircraft. Some of the aircraft still actually do fly, which is cool. There are a couple of simulators in the main building that are fun to mess with.
thomas wilson
What sets this place apart from other aviation museums is these planes can and do fly. Go during a big weekend event and you can hear and feel the power of these great war birds as they take off and fly, something film cannot replicate. The staff is amazing with their knowledge and are more than happy to chat you up with amazing facts.
Mike B
What a great experience coming here was. Our tour guide was amazing and was very knowledgeable and through on the tour. It was even better coming on a rainy slow day and we ended up having our own private tour with no one else being there! This museum has a large amount of planes. Anyone interested in aviation or history MUST make a pilgrimage here at some point in their lives. Loved the Luftwaffe hangar! Look forward to coming back for some of their yearly events.
BigPig8282
What a wonderful and educational place. It is so important for the younger generations to see and feel. The volunteer guides are fantastic. The aircraft are pristine and so much apart of our history. Make sure you go upstairs and see the uniforms and the Enigma machine. This place is a great reminder of why the men and woman of that era are truly the Greatest Generation.
SA Kleiner
Great display of actual vintage military aircraft and more.
Debbie jones
Have visited here many times over the years, always enjoy it, the people are wonderful there, very knowledgeable and helpful, it's like stepping back in time, lovely visit.
Tracy Moran
This is an amazing museum. The staff and volunteers are awesome - friendly and very knowledgeable. Important history lives on in this museum. Definitely worth the trip. Not a lot for very young children - you can look but not touch, seems better suited to 10 and above.
Benjamin Schrank
A fun place to check out some old war-fighter planes. The place offers only a light amount of artifacts to check out, but the content itself is pretty neat. They have guided tours of the hangars which offer more content and the access fee is 15 bucks for non-military and 12 bucks for military. (Young kids are free) The staff and guides are awesome and overall definitely worth the trip.
Steve Cork
We were shown around your incredible museum by Commander (Retired) Tim Leighton. He was fantastic, showing a depth of knowledge that was beyond impressive. I would come back just to hear him talk about the many exhibits. He was wonderful. How you found a volunteer with his breadth is amazing. He's a keeper.
Kimberly Mann
We truly enjoyed this place, the volunteers were knowledgeable about all the planes. My son loves WW2 plane era. He was so excited to see the Corsair and British hurricane. I was excited about the P-51!
Marshall DeBerry
Great experience in seeing both WW I and II planes as they looked during their eras. Plus, they are all operational and the museum has periodic fly days when they are flown. General admission is currently $15, but worth it for a different experience if you are are in the VA Beach/Pungo area.
Alexis Tevlin
Loved the museum! So many airplanes to look at, all but a few are still flown! Everyone is very informational and love to tell you about the planes and their experiences with the museum and or even flying experiences! It cost us about $30 for the two of us. There are plane rides given Thursday-Saturday (prices and details are listed on the website). Awesome people and awesome planes. Lots of history.
Robert S
I am big into aviation, and museums, and was surprised to see some of the fairly rare aircraft they have on display here. This is a great place to visit if you are in the area and want to see some historic aircraft, and I love that they have many in flying condition that are demonstrated from time to time.
We also visited during the recent airshow, where there were historical reenactors and lots to see and do if you are into WW2 and other history. I think that's the only time I've seen a PBY flying, which was pretty awesome, among the other beautiful WW2-era aircraft they had flying that day.
Ryan Orris
Very informative and welciming staff. Had wonderful time.
Catherine Oser
Loved the history. The attendants were knowledgeable and friendly. This is a must see!
Briana Stefanisko
The aviation museum was an awesome stop to see a wide array of beautifully restored/reproduced aircraft from throughout history. Lots of succinct information displays with specs and the history of each aircraft, and friendly staff/volunteers hanging out to answer questions!
A kudos as well to the Fighter Factory down the road for doing such amazing work to keep these planes in the air.
Brittany Maine
Excellent collection of war birds! A very informed staff and tour guides! The kids had fun and asked lots of questions. Love that they are always expanding the exhibits....can't wait to see what the watch tower looks like when it's complete! Lots of great history!
Jaime Lee
Excellent museum, well curated and maintained. Knowledgeable volunteers on the tour, really cool exhibits. Kids had a blast. Photography allowed. Great trip for a visiting family 👪 …
Randy Mayer
Very good collection of vintage aircraft. One of the best things is that a lot of the aircraft are in operational condition and are flown occasionally. The docents are knowledgeable and interested in you having a enjoyable visit.
Adam Davis
I have been to the Smithsonian and Wright Patterson AFB multiple times. While the Military Aviation Museum in VB is no where near their size; it is a very well laid out museum with a surprising number of rare aircraft, some of which I have never seen at either the Smithsonian nor Wright Patt. I highly recommend taking a trip here if you are a military aviation enthusiasts.
Linda Hiney
This was an amazing place! Would be great for any ages, but particularly for anyone interested in aviation or military history. The stories of where these planes were recovered from and how they were restored are unbelievable. The pilots were all true American heroes. The planes all work! Visit this spot!
Kevin Miller
A fantastic place for history and aviation enthusiasts. Staff is very warm and welcoming as well as helpful.
L Watts
Tour guides and volunteers are so friendly and have so much to share
tanalee thomas
Very enjoyable experience. Knowledgeable volunteers. Spent over 3 hours touring and finding out info about WWI and WWII aircraft. Volunteers were amazing. So pleased that we choose the Military Aviation Museum for our afternoon activity. We will be back!!!
Dave Bower
Fantastic! Never saw so many old planes in one place before.
Robotic Junkies
This place is a treasure. If you enjoy and appreciate the development of aircraft from the start and military aviation history, and the work being done to care and preserve the them.... this place has so much to offer you.
The staff was available and answered my questions with real interest. This is a spectacular collection of aircraft on the East Coast. Also this is an active facility of restoration and maintenance. Some planes I had only heard and read about, that were now up close and they are fully operational. I left there with a real excitement to read about and learn more about the military aviation in our history. There were so many points that we enjoyed during our time there.
K Landry
If you aren't already an aviation fan, visiting here will make you one! If you are already one, go and enjoy a huge collection of historical aircrafts and more. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff add to the positive experience. We had three generations in our family group and each appreciated and enjoyed it.
Kayla Spurlock
My sister's wedding was held here last weekend. The staff was amazing! My boys were bored waiting for the wedding to start so the guides took them around to keep them entertained. They were beyond accommodating and kind. Beautiful venue! Thank you for helping make my sisters day memorable :)
David Marcotte
It was very interesting. I don't know who is the owner of the museum is. But he is got to be a great man. I hope that it is set up to continue after we are all gone. The guide we had was very knowledgeable. The Airforce man. Thank You for everything. I hope to be able to return in May of next year when you'll have your Air Show. We are from Florida and I think it will be worth it.
Doug Davis
This place is amazing! Hard to believe there are that many vintage WWI and WWII airplanes in one place and still in working condition. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Two thumbs up for our tour guide Warren. Check this place out, you won’t be disappointed.
Frank Haun
Incredible place. I was lost in the wonderment. I want to fly in.
Rusty Zipper
We visited here on a rainy day and had a great time especially considering that I don’t even like airplanes! The Tour included two hangers out back and was led by an extremely pleasant Vietnam era pilot. We spent about 3 hours then a quick stop at the Dinosaur Park out front. Excellent experience and many thanks to the owner of the museum: Mr. Gerald Yagen.
Elizabeth Russell
Wonderful, excellent, great docents, exceptional displays. Certain times of the year they have the exhibit planes flying off their grass strip. I believe there is also a time when you can fly you personal airplane in. This is the best museum I have visited and it is right in our back yard. The Smithsonian May be rated tops but this was not overwhelming. Family friendly. We come from a military family and have a love of aviation. The volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great collection and some very interesting pieces.
BOG
If a WW1 or WW2 plane buff, it may be great for you. Our kids were pretty much bored instantly. We will be back to see the planes fly. Entry fee $15 per adult is a little steep. Friendly staff. Jerrassic Park (free) was more appealing to our 4 and 2 year old.
nelson canas
Nice , they have airplanes flying to show visitors , and people give you a great history of the museum
Thomas Geery
Very nicely done and a reasonable entry fee. They have a lot of aviation history at this museum!
Jose Amely
The experience of learning of past aviation aircraft of WW I and WW II was great. Learning of the men and women who sacrificed and contributed to the success of the United States during those wars was eye opening. I would highly recommend the Military Aviation Museum to everyone.
Nate D
Really awesome for aviation and world war history buffs. Place has incredible accuracy and attention to detail. Love the personal guides, all seemingly retired military personnel.
Marisol Seys
Such an awesome place, well worth the $15 ticket. Spent about 3 hours walking around the hangers and getting a guided tour (the only way you can see many of the planes) and it was unlike any plane museum I've ever been to. All the staff was super knowledgeable and you could tell their love for aviation, not to mention being up close and personal with planes that actually still fly!! I could go on and on, but I hope you'll see for yourself if you have time
Tap Bridge
Lots of neat airplanes to look at, but I have to admit, the dinosaur exhibit was one of my favorites.
Watching you Watch me
The place is a staple in the community and it is a thoroughly educating experience. Perfect for anyone, single or bursting with family this is the place to go to immerse yourself in aviation history !
I don't see how you can consider yourself a fan of Aviation having not yet visited !
I challenge you to go for you would never be the same!
The staff are caring and helpful the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. you will also get more than just aviation history. They have tanks and other military equipment as well everything fully explained in detail. Have you ever seen the inside of a working plane engine? Make sure to ask about the working cutaway of the plane's engine at work !
Don Chester
Pretty cool place, most planes operational
Norfolk Hack
Spent the day there recently for the Biplanes and Brews WWl festival. An awe inspiring collection of WWI and WWII military aircraft. Not your typical museum, since they fly almost all of the planes! Docents were very pleasant, and shared really great information. Thanks to the owner for sharing his personal collection with the public. Highly recommend.
Antonio Santiago
Great customer. Awesome volunteer staff and great plane and information.
A B
Absolutely fantastic museum. Mark N. and Brian were full of stories about the planes and their history. There were so many volunteers and everyone is attentive and knowledgeable. Opportunities to see and hear some of the planes take off. Inside spot to cool off with a vending machine and drink options in the gift shop. There's a free dinosaur park at the entrance to walk around, too. Plenty of parking spots. Overall a fantastic experience!
Nicole Burch
Our kids were like kids in a candy store. Make sure to go on a free guided tour offered 4 times daily. Great information on areas not accessible otherwise.
Lois Carter
Oh what can't I say about this museum except I wish I had left myself with a lot more time to get around to take everything in. If you are into airplanes and artifacts from WWI and WWII then this is absolutely the best place to go. First let me say that they have on hand the greatest staff who are incredibly knowledgeable. Most are retired military and they know their stuff. They take pride in every piece in the museum. They have tours you can take advantage of or you can walk about on your own. I encourage the tour as there is so much more you can learn from your guide. If you check ahead you can arrange for a private ride to go up in one of the planes. This museum is a " don't miss" and while there check out the fantastic gift shop.
Andrew Lang
A must see for warbird aviation fans. Some aircraft there I have never seen anywhere else and they all fly. They usually fly something on the weekends. I can highly recommend an airplane ride, worth every penny!
Heather Sutherlin
We attended a special weekend event with flight demonstrations, reenactment camps, and live music. So much fun! The museum itself is very nice and we will definitely go back again to explore.
Rebecca
I wasn't sure about going here at first because I really don't have much interest in aviation, but I'm so glad I decided to try it out! Everyone was very nice and helpful if you needed it, but they also let you just wander on your own and you can get right next to the planes. My three year old niece LOVED seeing the different planes and also loved wandering around the dinosaur park at the front (where they also have a scavenger hunt set up). They have a guided tour in a different hangar, but I didn't have time for it on the day I went.
Norma May
Had a delightful day! Warren, our tour guide, took us on a great adventure through the history of the first 50 years of flight! The Goxhill Control Tower which was brought here brick by brick from England was a surprise ending to a lovely afternoon. A must see!
Kevin Wibbelt
By far the best museum in the area and definitely the most unique aviation museum I've been to. I wouldn't normally opt into one of the guided tours, but here out is well worth it. The staff are extremely informative on the aircraft and their WW1 and German hangers blew my mind.
If you want to spend a good couple of hours in a day, this museum is a must see.
Emmy (Emsky)
Great history and stories! This place is unique with having original and replicas of what they would look like. Definitely worth the time!!
Koren Rivera
We went to today for Biplanes and Brews it was really awesome. They did and airshow with planes that are part of their museum. The also had different local breweries that you were able to buy samples. For me this is a great way to try new brews. There was also great entertainment. They sang and played music from WW1 era. They also have period reenactments of military camps and a Salvation Army camp. I would definitely go to this event again.
MonadKing
Wish we had more time to see all the wonderful planes. You could spend hours there since there is so much to see and the guild said that 90% of the planes can fly. That was so amazing to hear that. It is a must place to come back to when they have an air show.
Robert Corkren
This place is amazing! Very well organized, clean and you can get so close to the planes and other displays. The drive is a bit far, but there's plenty of great places to stop and eat along the way.
Bob Ream
A Fantastic display of Aircraft and actual buildings from our past history. Wanted to stay the entire day. You need two days minimum.
Martha W
Great place to go for some history and family fun.
Nicole Ricketts
Absolutely LOVE this museum!!! A hidden gem of Virginia Beach! My 10 and 8 year old boys enjoyed chatting to the volunteers, asking questions and listening to stories that were shared! The volunteers were so patient with them and very knowledgeable. It wasn't very crowded and we were able to go on a dinosaur hunt after! All in all a great place to visit! We will definitely be back! Going to check the website and hopefully catch a show!
Joe Quartararo
Excellent for kids, don't miss the dinosaurs near the entrance! Also if you are a real aviation enthusiast be sure to take the long walk to the other hangers past the runways and the main building, you can also see some partially restored planes on days they are doing work.
Joyce Thorburn
Awesome place. Kids love it there
H lll
Great experience and good staff they have my 3 favorite fighters of ww2 the spitfire the mustang and me 109 i wish they had a zero, one guy told as interesting stories about Jewish German pilots and they have a nice replica of the red barons triple wing plane
Paul Adams
Loved it. Awesome volunteers. They were all super friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly love what they are doing. Huge and beautifully restored ww1&ww2 inventory. Each plane has a story about where they got it from.
This place is def not for little kids. I'd say like 8+, maybe? There is no touching the planes and no one likes someonelses whiny bored child...
jonathon hounsell
Fantastic little museum. Has a lot of planes and 98% still work! There is a lot of history here and the volunteers are extremely knowledgeable about the planes and history that surrounds them in that era. The tours are very cool and you can learn a lot about different countries as well as our own! They do a lot foe the community as well as weddings, special events, and use the runway for the military !
Rebecca S.
Well worth it. All the volunteers were friendly and a wealth of information. I highly recommended coordinating your visit with a guided tour - Warren was informative, fun, funny and engaging; he even included our 5 and 6 year olds. Jerrassic world at the entrance is just an added bonus. The whole visit was great.
Sharon M.
We had no idea this exhisted out in the Pungo area. We enjoyed walking around and seeing all these old planes from all over the world from world war II. There were also some old cars to see. It was very exciting to see each one. There is also a dinosaur walking area to take the kids to see. You can take a lunch with you and eat at the picnic tables. Enjoyable day.
Kristan Pettigrew-Youngblood
So many planes to look at. My son had a STEM paper airplane challenge here on the 17th. Was a great day!! The staff here are so knowledgeable and friendly. The dinosaur park out front is free to walk around in. Didn't get a chance to check it out. From what i seen it is awesome !!! Great for family visits. Gift shop is on site. Lots of great things to check out.
Marjorie Cole
Superb one week summer camp for my 13 year old grandson in aeronautical engineering. This camp was his 3rd in 3 years and has fueled a permanent passion about the subject. Nicole was a marvelous director. She deserves a raise! Thanks to all staff and volunteers who make these camps possible. Thanks to this venue our family vacation this summer will include Osh Kosh Wisconsin...site of the largest air show in the country. The $100.00 I paid for a family membership has paid for itself many times over!
Megan Strowger
This truly was a gem to find! So many world war I and II planes kept in immaculate condition and with original paintwork. The docents were all very friendly and knowledgeable. You could tell they really loved sharing their knowledge. They had a control tower from World War II flown from England and reassembled brick by brick. Also, an original German air hangar reassembled and restored. There was still so much my dad and I didn't have time to see including their dinosaur garden, static exhibits and to fly in one of their planes. If you love war history and aircraft definitely check this place out!
Barb Hite
GREAT PLACE! RECOMMENDED TO EVERYONE!!! People were very informative and look like they enjoy their work. Will be going back with my grandchildren on their Thanksgiving vacation because they have a "plane and trains and Santa interactive displays for the kids" for the holidays.
Peter Nicholson
A great collection of old war birds.
Paul Kohl
Great place to see WWII aircraft. They still fly on Saturdays in the summer. Reconstructed control tower from WWII England. WWI aircraft too.
Russ Morrison
From the standpoint of a former military pilot in reconnaissance and fighters this is a super Duper museum that allows you to relive a lot of the history of Military aviation and those aviation events you participated.
I highly advise it as a good place to visit for retired military pilots.
Russ Morrison (Col USAF retired)
Pat Perry
Outstanding museum staffed by passionate, knowledgeable people.

Really nice museum and loved all of the hangers and artifacts. A little disappointed we weren’t told where to meet for the tour of the WW1 hangers and when we showed up, were rudely kicked out. Should’ve just been able to view the hangers freely if we missed the tour considering we paid. Better communication would be nice. A nice place to visit though with lots of history

It was nice. It's cool that nearly all the planes are operable. 2.5 hours was enough to experience the whole thing since 2 of the hangers were closed. The volunteers their are great

The museum was a nice place to visit. One of the museum aids really made our visit worth while. Mr. Bob Sage was a wonderful guide. He was extremely knowlegable and funny. Mr. Sage and the hanger cat (Gator i think was his name) really made my day. I believe I enjoyed them the most! It was interesting to see the WWII planes and the bullet holes and writing in the last hanger. Great trip!

A cool experience. Clean facility, beautiful planes, knowledgeable staff who enjoy talking about the planes.

A very cool stop on vacation. Displays are dated and after about 15 minutes our 4 year old was looking for things a bit more interactive. The staff made the difference, providing somewhat of a private tour and engaging with not only our child but other families with children.

Extremely well done museum with a huge amount of vintage aircraft. And most fly for shows! So while virtually every other museum has aircraft on display, here they still fly!
The volunteers and staff need keep the planes in top shape, with not only cleanliness but maintenance and flight-worthy status...that's got to be a huge undertaking. Keeping the hanger floors spotless as well. Also, trusting their priceless machines around guests...people that may break or tamper with something...that say's a lot about their character.
One can even pay to get a ride in a vintage aircraft - What a treat!

A great experience! The museum has an excellent collection of aircraft and artifacts from the WWI and WWII eras. That so many of the aircraft and replicas actually fly is amazing. The Biplane rides are a real treat!

The staff was the best part. The staff consisted of a whole bunch of volunteering men and women who were very knowledgeable and humble. All everyone wanted to do was help and tell stories. There were a lot of planes. There were planes from the US Navy, US army, German and Russian military planes. There was a Luftwaffe hanger originating from Germany, along with the Britain Control Tower. An overall educating and amazing experience.

Went for the trains and Santa show! Awesome

Great place to visit and see all the different planes. One of the best things about this place is that almost all of there planes are in flying condition and they often hold air shows displaying there collection in action! Staff is also very knowledgeable and some of which who actually few the aircrafts back in the day

Living history. There are not only planes-Army, Navy, WWI, WWII, but they fly a lot of them in airshows too. The docents are personable and amazingly knowledgeable. If you like airplanes or history you will NOT be disappointed by a trip, or even membership to this museum.

Very, very cool place!! They have a huge selection of planes from current to WW1 and 2. They even have some armored cars and an armored motorcycle! This place is AWESOME!!
Mary Hubbard
This place is a great museum to bring the family. They let you wander around and just check out the old aircraft or if you want, a volunteer will walk you through and guide your tour. It would be nice to see more on the female wwII pilots, the uniforms are nice but not protected like the male display... A nice historical poster would make a difference.

They've got a fantastic collection of aircraft here, and a lot of rare ones as well. Gift shop has some pretty cool souvenirs as well! If you like historical aircraft, you'll love this place!

I have been wanting to go to this museum for a few years now. This place is far better than what I expected. If you are interested in WWI and WWII aviation, this is the place for you. The help is all volunteers , but were very knowledgeable and eager to explain the displays. I will be going again when they have an Air Show.

My son and I are interested in old airplanes. Was great fun. Nice place to view and enjoy history of old military and civilian aircraft
Sarah Finger
We come here with our three year old son, and enjoy it every time. Getting up close to the aircraft is great. I love the WW1 hanger. The volunteers are highly knowledgeable about the planes.
Ricky Hughes
Visited here and it was amazing! Must visit! A lot of history on aviation during WWI AND WWII. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and told us a lot about aviation during the time periods. Very reasonable prices for what you experience.

Great place to visit, be sure to check out the Dinosaur park on the way in.
There is a fantastic range of historic aircraft ranging from pre WW1 to post WW2 and almost all are kept in a flyable condition.
The volunteers and staff are friendly and full of facts about the history and life of the aircraft, buildings and the period.
They also host several airshows each year, which are spectacular to behold. This is a real gem of a place and we'll worth a visit.

Unbelievable amount of history! Joined the membership program so I can go back again and again! You almost need more than one day to really appreciate all of the aircraft they have there!
Coty Thigpen
Amazing place to teach your children about their history. There are a good variety of planes and other historical items to see and learn about. Staff is very friendly, entertaining, and knowledgeable.
There is also a small area in the front with lifesize dinosaurs for the smaller kids to enjoy and picnic tables.
Virginia Wind
Wow what a gem! This is privately owned museum near Virginia Beach. The folks that work there are passionate about the old aircraft. The machines are in great shape for the most part. I was most impressed with the world WWI hanger. So many old birds! Just an amazing display. This was I don't miss kind of place.
Leviticus 48
Absolutely amazing experience. The staff was very intelligible and love what they do. The tours really had a nostaligia and realism to the history involved. Also, I appreciated the sheer passion to always innovate and continually grow the collection. Truly an experience you will not, nor want to, forget.

If you love planes and aviation then you'll like it. Great experience and enjoyed the special event. Only negative was I didn't know where to go once there... for special event and the displays. Kinda lacked direction for guests, felt like stumbled into everything
Lynne Hendrick
They were amazing hosts for my daughter's dance studios Winter Ball. The museum was open for us to tour with plenty of guides to show us around and answer questions. It was a a great night.
Lukas Kowalski-Cook
An amazing experience! Their collection of Great War and WW2 era planes are varied and fantastic. Went on a tour with Warren and he was an interesting and informative host.
Mike Martin
Had an awesome time here!!! For anyone who loves history, especially aviation! This is a HAVE TO! visited this weekend and saw the Corsair flight demonstration, never thought I'd see one fly. The best part is, most of the planes aren't static models, they are funcuonfun aircraft that are regualarly maintained and flown!
Larry Walters
This was a great museum. A large collection of WW1 and WW2 planes. Most of their planes are in Air Worthy condition. The planes are in immaculate condition. A great spot for photographers. They do offer rides in 2 airplanes. It's expensive but would be worth it. There is an airshow in May. Warbirds over the beach. I planned on being there.
Shaquayquay
Many different planes from WWI, WWII and afterwards. There's even some cars and motorcycles that you can check out as well. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The museum also offers plane rides that you have to schedule at least 2 weeks in advance, so it's definitely something to check out.
Matt Gross
Get up close and personal with beautifully restored WW 1and 2 aircraft.
