Reviews of Francis Land House
Was a great trip with my family! The staff was super knowledgeable! Making paper cranes was a ton of fun! Great place for a family trip
Amazing house with a rich history. Great to visit for local history instead of having to drive all the way to Williamsburg. Sometimes there are events for the whole family with games, food, plant sales, and more.
My son and I went on field trip there through his school. He is 6 years old. The field trip was a great experience. Very educational projects and centers we participated in. It has a lot of history it was built around 1805-1810.
Its neat history. I think the tour guide was brand new. In any case, he had no business guiding a tour on his own. It felt like he was just given the script that morning and tried to memorize it. Not sure if it was his fault or he was forced to go on his own too early.
But anyway, the property is neat and I love learning about history, so it was still fun.
When you ring the bell at the back door, you are greeted by a staff member who checks you in and takes you on a tour. The tour, at present, is only the first floor (the second floor was actually used as a bedroom loft for the daughters of the family) and the gardens around the house. The tour is fact-filled and quite enjoyable.
We had a good experience here, education wise. I took my kids to learn about games and how people lived back then. I suppose I should have researched more, though. This home belonged to slaveowners. The entire time I was there, I felt gross like we shouldn't be there. They did mention the slaves, but not in any detail beyond their "duties" of cooking and cleaning. It seemed to focus more on the almost lavish lifestyle of the homeowners. I think adding a detailed discussion about slavery to the tour would be beneficial and respectful to those that were forced to work here.
Beautiful and historic home with cute tours and weekend events every now and then. Tried to go to the fairy festival and I think they underestimated how popular it would get because it was PACKED. We couldn't get to a whole lot of stuff because of how crowded it got for the space.
Get ready to be teleported back in time. Our tour guide really knew the history of Francis Land and the plantation. The history of the house was very interesting for all those who love learning.
It was a delight to use for the reception after a funeral. Very cool to stave off heat amd quiet without being somber. Being an historical location in virginia beach they also offered guided tours to anyone interested. Well worth it. 10/10 would use them again.
Jasmine was quite informative explaining the history of the house and plantation. Relatively short tour considering the expanse of the plantation, but through the years, much of the land had been sold off.
Was closed for.winter. The house is cool and they have a nice garden. There is a huge old tree on the grounds..probably as old as the house. Will visit again when it's open.
Great piece of history took family there, loved the tour guide she was funny! Staff is very friendly and courteous.
Beautiful home. I love the events they schedule to show what life was like in that time frame. They also have a heritage garden cared for by the Master Gardeners of Virgina Beach.
They had an open house with people whose hobbies were the same as during the time period of the house being built. Very interesting and kids friendly.
Went for the ice cream tasting today. The Rosemary and Apricot flavors were very good.
Wonderful experience, and lots of history. They also grow heirloom and trial plants in their gardens.
A little piece of history in your backyard. The Land house is currently working on creating more educational opportunities and events to reach out to the public.
It was near to see the house and learn about Virginia Beach history. Both woman were friendly and knowledgeable.
It was slow and a little boring. But very beautiful. Not a place to take a toddler.
