Reviews of Pittock Mansion
Kelsea LaVoie
I can't believe in over a decade living in Portland I've never visited the Pittock Mansion. What a spectacular glimpse of history. Loaded with beautiful architecture and fun facts about the family and home. We really enjoyed our visit. I'm glad it's ticketed so it didn't feel too crowded despite a beautiful, December weekend day. I can't wait to be back and stroll the property (on a less chilly day!).

Fantastic views over the city and excellent photo ops in the beautiful surrounds. A small expense on parking only, about 2 dollars an hour. Could be a great trek or hike down from here to Washington park but we drove to a from. A great first stop when visiting Portland to get your overall bearings. Possibly worth touring the mansion too but we didn't have time. Give yourself 30mins to an hour to explore the outside surrounds.

when you walk into this mansion you feel like you just traveled back in time. It does not disappoint for the price it has loads of rooms for you to explore and has some amazing views. It took me about 2 hours to go through the mansion. The parking is reasonable for 2 dollars and hour.

Amazing Views. You pay for Parking. Unless you park on the side road before arriving to Mansion. Entrance to walk trail and garden is Free but there's a fee of about $10-$15 per adult for Self Tour. Super nice, well organized. Picture/Video allowed. No touching! Beautiful architecture/story.

An amazing example of forward thinking and innovation, hard to believe some features in this house were available 110 years ago. Well worth taking the self guided tour inside to experience the architecture and modern features. Views over Portland all the way to Mt Hood are excellent from inside the house and even better from the yard.

Definitely go! Bring a picnic! There are picnic benches. The entry for adults to the mansion is $ 16.95.
It goes down incrementally for seniors, students, and youth.
You can hike up to the pittock mansion there is a lower parking lot you can park at. Or you can drive all the way up and park in the upper parking lot.. It's a beautiful walk through the trees and it's challenging so if you are down for beauty and challenge then put on those hiking shoes or comfortable grip sneakers .
There are picnic benches that overlook the beautiful view of Portland Oregon. Go on a clear day and you can see all 5 mountains! Bring some nice binoculars.
The Pittock mansion has an amazing display about black history that's very personal and has interpersonal histories of local black history.
You will be moved and you will be schooled.
It's a very moving installation. It is in the basement. I have mixed feelings about that but the installation itself is then itself is very moving and needs to be seen. Definitely don't forget to go to the basement and look at it.

Ticket price is reasonable. Mansion is not as big as some I've been to in the US, and the interior is about average, not too many artifacts. The garden is also adequate for a mansion, not too impressive. The main attraction is the view and the cool breeze that you can feel in many rooms throughout the tour. Doesnt take too much time and effort to finish. It is elderly, children and pet friendly

Large historic mansion overlooking Portland, featuring magnificent views of the city. Self guided tour is fun and very interesting. Furnishings, decor and architecture are all quite spectacular, and the signs posted throughout are very informative and interesting. A real treasure in Portland, and a must-see for any visitors to the city.

Visited during the Pittock Mansion Christmas - Music Makes the Season event. Pay to park. A walk through Portland history. Although there is an entry fee into the Mansion, you can visit the grounds for free. Amazing views. Cute gift store.
Brittny Farris
I went here to watch the sunset and it was such an incredible view, something you can't pass up! Everything about this place is beautiful. The mansion is unfortunately still locked and not open for entry and the gates at night close at 9pm.
Charlene Faulk
You can pay $2 an hour to just park and walk around the grounds. It is less than $15 to do the mansion tour. The mansion was beautiful and a great experience to learn about Portland. There are the most amazing views of the city skyline and Mt. Hood from the lookout on the grounds. There are picnic tables and benches to rest.

came here while in the area, ended up going in and didn’t disappoint. Easy to follow signage, informative information along the way and a lot of great Portland history and views of the city. The garden and viewpoint outside are great and worth a visit as well.
Philip Hake
The mansion is a work of art and luxury. The view of Portland from the Mansion is reason enough to visit. The family's story and lifestyle is interesting. Make sure to visit the basement billiards room and read about the journey I'm the Oregon Trail that many slaves endured for freedom.
Note you have to pay for parking. You have to pay to tour the mansion, which is self guided. You may buy tickets at the door.

I highly recommend checking out Pittock Mansion. The exterior and interior are breathtaking. There is an amazing view of Portland , you can understand why the family chose to build there home at that spot . The staff was very informative, you can tell they love what they do . It’s fun to step back in time and see how people lived not to long ago . I also heard they do events there , so keep an eye out on their Facebook page .

The start of the story of Portland. The home of the family that put Portland on the map. If you want to know the story of our city you must visit the Pittock Mansion at least once. The architecture is beautiful, the gardens are well maintained. The views are a must see wether on a rainy or a clear day. If you only have a few hours in our city go to the Pittock Mansion. There’s some wonderful trails on this side of the park too. Just don’t forget to pay for parking.
Violet
Really beautiful mansion! Beautiful views, and details.
I love coming here and always wanted to see the inside. I finally managed to make that happen today with a friend!
I arrived for the last 3pm ticket purchase/slot. I didn’t get to finish and only made it through half of the mansion before I was told that they were closing in 5 minutes!!!
I was annoyed that when I arrived at 3pm that the lady taking my card for the $14.50 ticket didn’t bother mentioning I only had a hour to quickly get through. It was annoying and disappointing. I don’t know when I’ll be able to make it back. I know when I volunteered I would let folks know before entering or paying that closing time was near so they could decide to come back another time or be quick. $14.50 for a hour wasn’t quite worth it to me- I missed a lot of neat things and their basement attraction.
*** Just be aware they CLOSE AT 4PM!***

Though it’s a museum with paid entry, there are walkways around which you can explore without entering the museum. It opens up to a viewing spot with spectacular scenic view and f the city. You might get a glimpse of mount hood if you are lucky with the weather. Must see. You can hike up to this place and on your hike down, you can go to the Japanese garden, rose garden and even the zoo. Too many things in one hike. It can be a day trip.
Judson Cato
I can’t believe it took me 3 years to do this short hike into some cool history. What a strong house with the best view of downtown from the west side of the Willamette. The trail had been closed but it’s open now. One can also drive to the mansion.
Kallen Tu
Not much to do here. People call this the best view of Portland which I guess is fair? The view was mediocre in my opinion. The little walk is nice though. I didn't have any interest in going into the mansion itself, so we walked outside.
Nice small walk around the mansion though.
Cory Ternes
This place is absolutely amazing! If your in Portland or near the West Hills this place is a must on sunny day, great views and just a super cool vibe being here. I've never been and I lived in Portland all my life! 🤟🏼
Ashley Kluge
We got there and walked around the grounds. The inside of the mansion was closed. The grounds and the view was amazing. Beautiful flowers, nice trees and a clear day to see all of Portland. Only thing I wish I would of been able to find is the hours for the museum so I can plan a trip to see the inside.
Ramaz J
historical place. located in the city and easily accessible. parking is not big but the bistro space is vacant. a good view of the city. you can take good pictures. be sure to visit.
Andrew Kub
So worth it. Even if you don't go inside ($20 admission fee). My friend says the tour is great. The views are amazing and the trails were great. A little muddy, but hey, it's Portland. Seriously great views, don't miss this.
Abby Sullivan
Love visiting the Mansion, always so beautiful! Pay for parking, grounds are free, with lots of hiking trails. Tour the mansion for a small fee. Great way to spend the day and get out of the house
ViperX9 gaming
Still an awesome historic museum that attracts my eye every time I see it. It was my second time inside the mansion, wow how beautiful it was, and they had the basement open to view. Great place to go on a date, or even just go to see the history of portland in one of the oldest houses still standing. Currently they have open self guided tours available, not very expensive, I think I payed about $30 for two people for 1hr plus parting of course, but the lot has more than enough parking plus an extended lot and street parking for extra space.
liz biagi
We are from MN. Beautiful, self guided tour. Was very impressed with the grand staircase and how light and airy the mansion is. Not dark, heavy like so many historical sites. Flowers were blooming. Many fans of Jane Austen were dressed in period clothes having a picnic on the front lawn. Ladies drinking from China tea cups sitting on quilted blankets, wicker picnic baskets. One gentleman dressed in period garb complete with top hat. Excellent display about black American history and how they arrived and contributed to building Oregon. Located in the lower level of mansion.
Peter Kho
A scenic spot that is a quick 10+ minutes (approximately) drive from downtown Portland. Enjoy the expansive view of Portland, along with nice garden. (Pay) Parking can be a challenge during weekends and holidays.
Rodrigo Silva Freitas
The Mansion is a great panoramic view of the city. The parking spot stays open until 9pm so you can enjoy the sunset colors, although the sun is on the other side of the viewpoint.
Jessie Grove
The view from the mansion, was truly breathtaking. My husband and I, decided we were going to go, for our first time! this past weekend, we embraced a new experience, as we wanted to do this for our anniversary! I don't think it could have gone any better! I didn't get many pictures of the immaculate indoors, of this historic and haunted mansion. Even so, we decided, we must do this trip again! Pay to park wasn't any trouble, I paid $4 for 2 hours and $14.50 each, for tickets, to explore, Pittock mansion.
I must say, as a self guided tour, we taught ourselves a lot! They did have staff working, to answer questions, they even showed us the 100 year old elevator! Of course, we didn't get to go inside the elevator, yet still worth the knowledge and history of such things! 10/10, will go again!
Big thank you, to everyone that keeps this beautiful piece of history alive. See you next time! ❤️
Alex Dodd
We didn't go inside but the grounds and views are beautiful. My friend said entry to the mansion is ~$5 but the observation area and gardens are free. It was cloudy but on a clear day imagine it would afford a pretty impressive view of Mt Hood. Well worth the stop over if you're in the area--located just down the road from the rose and Japanese gardens.
Chad Chapman
The mansion was incredible! What a wonderful and beautiful bit of history for the area. Parking was not a pain, but my family went there at sunset on a weekday. The information and history presented were interesting to read. Definitely worth stopping by if you're around the area.
Lisa Moore
Local restored historic mansion with interesting information on the original family. Although most furnishings inside are not original to the family, they are of the same time period and locality. Beautiful landscaping and view of Portland from the property.
Emma-kate McCord
This was a cool place. It was a self guided tour which was nice as we could go at our own pace. The outside was just as interesting as the inside. I went with my kids that are 12 & 8 and they were engaged the whole time.
Lucila Cejas
A truly iconic Portland spot! Beyond the “this is how the rich lived” there are a lot of innovative aspects in the way the house was built. Great views of Portland!
Ashley Kaye (HifromAshley)
Very nice views — would be amazing at night. The tour is self guided with many signs.
The details and craftsman ship are incredible.
Hapa Kolea Hapa Haole
Definitely tour the grounds, which is free. Once you've been inside once, no real point in going again, even though the inside is lovely, especially around Christmas with all the decorations. The real draw here though was the views from the outside, panoramic views of Portland and surrounding areas, especially on a clear day, absolutely breathtaking.
Jill Cobb
Nice self-guided tour of a lovely mansion and its grounds, with information about the Pittock family as well as a bit about Portland. The yard has a fantastic view of the city.
Dana Davidson
Great self tour. The mansion was beautiful. I’d have liked to have seen more focus on keeping the rooms as close to original as possible.
Penny Rusty Sophie
Nice place to check out the view. For a fee, you can tour the mansion... But we were just interested in seeing the grounds of this impressive estate.
MindfulLiving Bellevue
Great view of downtown city center. A must visit if you are near this area. Bring a jacket as it gets very cold at night. Parking is $2 an hour but well worth the price of the view!
Daniel Sorensen
In good weather the mansion has a priceless view of the skyline and Mt Hood. Each December the rooms are decorated for Christmas, which is our favorite time to visit. The highlight is the beautiful staircase.
The parking lot is small, it was originally planned to be the tennis court, and has a fee for each half hour. The former garage is now a lovely gift shop.
Tin Nguyen
I would like to express sincerely big thank you to the Pittock family that allows a wonderful views of the city without charging anything except parking. Tour of the Mansion has cost but not required to tour. A must visit spot if in Portland.
Tatiana Larina
If you are visiting Portland you must visit this place! Beautiful mansion, easy parking, great view of Portland. Easy hike to Witch trail (Witch castle).
Diana Marie OG
I've never been to Pittock Mansion before, my dear friend took me there recently. We only paid for parking and didn't go inside but enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Seeing Pittock Mansion was breaking but the view of was a wonderful experience and one of my new favorite memories. We walked and marveled at nature around us.
Josh Wilson
Didn't do the full tour but did walk around the exterior of the mansion and checked out the viewpoint of Downtown Portland. They have some hiking trails which is nice. Pay to park as well.
Julie Butterworth
I didn't get to see the mansion, but the view of the city was the best one. Only negative Is that the park closes the gates at 9pm and Sunset in summer is at 8.55.
JULIANA
Ah it’s such an inspiring place! Love this mansion, especially during the sunset. As I remember parking can be tight sometimes during busy times. There’s a museum inside too!
Kamil Saad
Cool place to see old furniture and how a well of family lived in the past but $14.50 admissions is quite a bit for walking around a house. Plus the views outside are free and those are nicer. Still recommend it as it's pretty cool and the dolls and stuff are funny because they are creepy.
Randall Biggs-Shaw
This place is beautiful. A lovely piece of Oregon history in the hills of Portland. If you have the time to read everything I highly recommend doing so.
Michelle Hall
This Mansion is always fun to visit. The views of the city are amazing, and the history of the family and home are so interesting to read about. Summer or winter, this is a great place to visit.
Richards Family
We've loved visiting the Pittock Mansion at Christmas ever since our kids were little. It's a great place for people who love architecture, history & Beautimous surroundings! ❤️🙏
Terry & Kim Thoms
Very interesting. Good representations of time period. Good, open and honest displays of furniture etc. It would be nice if more family history was shown; what happened to a mansion full of furniture?, why did the last family members leave?, what was building cost?, etc. Well done. Self guided tour is fun because one can move about and spend as much time as wanted but a guide would be awesome too. The people that fought to save Pittock from being torn down get ten out of five stars!!
Sam Bright
I love coming up here by bike, hike, or car. Some of the best views in the city! You can hike up from Lower Macleay and it’s a good trek. My kids made it up with some effort. A good spot for photos too around the property.
Melissa Denise
Really well kept Mansion but we finished it pretty quickly, even after reading all the notes and history boards! I've been to other historical homes in other cities and I would say this was one of the smaller ones. I'm glad we did it but I don't recommend if you're looking to save some money.
Aleena G.
The views from this mansion are stunning! There is ample enough parking to get to the mansion, and you don’t need to wear hiking shoes to be comfortable. However, picnicking or watching the sunset overlooking the Portland skyline is such a stunning feeling, you def need to experience it yourself! Lots of loose dogs here, so be careful if that is something that bothers you.
Kay Kiss Photography
Absolutely incredible view of the city from their viewpoint behind the house. Your the gardens and view for free or pay to see inside! Don’t forgot to try out wildwood trail in forest park while you are here as well.
William McKenzie III
Always a pleasure. Can be a lot of tourists but that's nice too in its own way. Home is beautiful, exterior is free to walk (tickets required, but worth it, for the house) around and see the view or take in the quality gardening. Take one of the trails instead of driving for real experience of quiet woods and beautiful views.
Ricardo M
Beautiful views we didn't go inside but loved the views and the location is beautiful highly recommend parking is about 2 dollars go early as it's hard to find parking 🅿️
Town Traveller
Great place to visit if you want to learn more about Henry Pittock and the history of oregon itself. Most of the furnitures dont belong to the Pittock family but local residents of the city.
Pratikshya Panigrahi
Spectacular place to live by and observe the hustle of the city. The mansion is ornate with all royal beauty and also humane affection.
Alexander Bourns
I was not able to go in the mansion because it was closed but the outside still looked great and the view of the city was amazing. I will return one day.
Imani T Gaines
Such a great place to visit with an amazing view of the city! Definitely worth visiting. However, whatever you do, do not walk from the bus stop. It’s about a 20-30 mins walk to the top. We learned the hard way.
Kyle Kutter
Worth the hike up to visit the historical Pittock Manson. Loved leaning about the history of Portland and the Pittock family through the stories of this hike, the property and its rescue from the City of Portland.
Ms. L
Walked around the grounds taking pictures on my 50th Birthday! Beautiful with breathtaking views of the city!
Vinit Sorte
The hike through the forest park to Pittock Mansion has pretty good views of the forest. You can also view Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood and the overview of city with some tall buildings and bridges.
Brennan Reilly
Completely wheelchair accessible. Very friendly staff. Great gardens and views. Definitely worth a visit.
Mona
Great history of not only the Pittock family and their mansion but also of the different cultures embedded in Portland’s history. Was very neat to see the “new technology” that was available during that time. The gardens and views are gorgeous.
Drew Purcell
Quite a neat historical place. Leave nothing in your car, our window was busted and bags stolen in under 20 mins. Terrible police response and no help from those who manage the ground or building. Known theft problems and no cameras. Ridiculous.
Janet Billups
Mansion itself is beautiful but you now have to pay to park!! Two kiosks appeared to be broken, had a terrible time trying to figure it out. I am not very tech savvy, not that is makes much difference but we won't be returning.
Kayla Henslee
We really enjoyed touring the inside of this beautiful and historic home. Note that the home closes at 4 or 5pm, depending on the time of year, but the grounds are open until 9pm. There's a great picnic area overlooking the city. Also, be sure to stop by the gift shop and speak to Sara, who is a wealth of knowledge about the family and mansion. I love meeting people who are passionate about where they work.
Carl from Chicago
The Pittock mansion is great for its history and for its views. It is easy to get to from downtown - right off Burnside - and easy parking.
The views are spectacular. The mansion was built around 1914 with the most advanced tech for the time and has been restored with period antiques as well.
Jacob Samuel
Great views of the city and cool architecture but honestly kind of boring. Worth checking out to take photos or if you’re already visiting the Japanese Gardens or the roses 🌹
Jesse Benefiel
So much information and so little time. Definitely a place that warrents a couple of visits to learn everything and admire the beauty. There is a lovely overlook of the city worth taking a few moments to enjoy. I'd love to learn more on the architecture and workers!
Jennifer Jacobsen
Always my go-to spot when I am in Portland. Lovely view and easy walk around the property. Gardens are lovely.
Melissa L
Beautifully decorated for Christmas, every room with a different theme and promoting local charities and the family's history. Very cool!
sesha gopal kn
The view of Mt. Hood is fantastic from this point. Musuem visting hours between 10 am to 4 pm on entry fee
Scott E
A Portland institution. An absolute must visit for anybody interested in the history of Portland. First time visitors need to take the tour of the mansion to see the revolutionary designs and fixtures for that time period.
Has one of the best views of downtown Portland for anybody interested in landscaping photography.
Even a picnic on the front lawn is encouraged for one of those nice relaxing days
Arun K. Raj
A must visit place. Would definitely recommend to visit. Beautifully built mansion and garden. The view from garden overlooking Mount Hood and Oregon is stunning. Worth the 12 bucks.
Ruoyang Yan
Didn’t go inside, but went to the overlook before sunset. The view was amazing, during good weather you may be able to see the Mt. Hood in the background.
Penelope Noecker
I visited the Pittock Mansion over the 2022 Christmas holidays. The decorations provided visual joy with detailed, festive, and creative touches throughout - all placed by volunteers, I’m told - while Christmas music played by local musicians offered additional seasonal flair. The history of the mansion and their background stories are detailed and fascinating and the displays, room by room, do not disappoint. I’m especially impressed by the fact that, from breaking ground in 1912 to occupancy by the Pittock family in 1914, it only took two years to complete construction. The staff are helpful and friendly. A visit to the Pittock Mansion is highly recommended.
Kai del Castillo
Visited here with my grandparents and it was a very cool to see Portland’s history.
Matt Anderson
Always a great way to spend the afternoon. The views are amazing!!!
Updated and new exhibits keep the ventures entertaining and exciting!!!
Glenda Newman
Beautiful grounds and amazing view of the city. The mansion was closed for tours on Tuesday and Wednesday but we enjoyed walking around and the view.
Diane Itani
Beautiful gardens and mansion! The garden view overlooking Oregon and Mount Hood is stunning especially at Sunset! There are benches and picnic tables to sit. A really great place for romantic moments too!
Joe Petrie
I would've given 5 stars, because thus place is amazing, the mansion is gorgeous and the view is breath taking. But they refuse to open the gates until way later instead of at 6am when the park open
Sara Yates
Lovely historical home with detailed signage providing background on each room and the family who lived there. Fascinating insights into the modern and innovative design and material choices made by the architect. The best part was the exhibit in the lower level on Blacks in Oregon. My teen read EVERY sign with interest and commented accordingly. Very educational and eye opening.
Casey Vinson
Absolutely gorgeous place. A truly eclectic mix of style and architecture. Price of admission is a little stiff, but all in all, it's worth a visit if you're a Portlander. Lots of fun history that locals will definitely appreciate more than tourists!
Amit Gupta
Great self-guides tour. Great history, beautiful mansion and rooms, and a wonderful view. Very interesting stop and highly recommended. Save a dollar or two on tickets if you are military, or have AAA or AARP
Andrew D
Great view of the city with rose garden walkways. Inside gives a nice historical insight of Portland
Rachel
The house is absolutely beautiful on the inside. The self-guided tour gives lots of details about the way life was at the turn of the 20th century. I went on a rainy afternoon, so I didn't get to experience the amazing views but the grounds were very well kept and nice to walk around. The basement had a separate exhibit about the city of Vanport and its history; which I'd recommend checking out.
J. Mathew
We live in the neighborhood and absolutely love the wonderful trails and woods as well as the lovely gardens and property at the Mansion. We love walking up the hill with our pup to visit this beautiful location frequently. Spectacular view of the downtown area from the lawn as well!
Joshua Taliaferro
Yes. So worth it. History, architecture, amazing views! If you love things like Downton Abbey and the old ways of life—definitely check it out!!
Seth Harris
On a clear day mount hood is visible. If it’s not clear you still have the best view of downtown Portland and a super unique location. The mansion and gardens are beautiful. Pro tip: download the parking kitty app before you go (this is the same parking app used all throughout Portland for street parking.)
Kha Dang
Amazingly beautiful mansion. Most of the furniture and decorations in there aren't from the original owners, but still very nice
J. Sage Raindancer
Amazing grounds with a wonderful view of Portland. Awesome trails that connect to the arboretum and local neighborhoods.
Kristina Kodak
Once the private home of the Portland pioneer Pittock family, this 22-room house was designed by architect Edward Foulkes and completed in 1914. The mansion sits 1,000 feet above sea level on 46 acres and commands a view of five mountains in the Cascade Range. It is an outstanding architectural achievement with its eclectic design of circular rooms, combining fine plasterwork, cut and polished marbles, cast bronze, and superbly crafted hardwoods and paneling. Its progressive features included a central vacuum system, intercoms, and indirect lighting hidden in alcoves above the walls. The house is completely furnished with antique furniture and objets d'art, including family artifacts, appropriate to its 17th, 18th, and 19th century French and English designs. The couple lived there with their family from 1914 until the death of Georgiana in 1918 and Henry in 1919. The house remained as a family residence until 1958. Six years later, the City of Portland purchased the estate for $225,000. It was opened to the public one year later and has remained a community landmark ever since.
David Moore
A bit pricey, but an impressive old house with an incredible view. Be prepared to pay for parking, if you can find a spot in their tiny lot. Inside they do nice holiday decorations, and have staff to explain lots of interesting history.
Ews
There is hiking path that goes from the Japanese garden to hear.. a nice short hike.. the reviews of mount hood is amazing in this area.. bring lunch!
Billy Gass Photography
Once again a visit here was well worth the voyage. Got to meet with some pretty fine characters around the grounds. Was such a treat to be able to grt some good photos after hours. Realy appreciate the support. Highly recommended for any occasion!
Nickie Crouch
This place was great. I took bus then hiked up to the mansion. I wish they had the family original furniture. But great job decorating for that Era! The museum at bottom level dedication to the African American settlers was a plus!
Colt Seidman
I went here for the first time with my dad from out of town. It’s really interesting and there’s many views from the mansion where you can see the city.
Oleksandra Synytsia
Very interesting and beautiful place. The best view of the city👍🏼 …
JOHNNY STALL
I had the best time! What great views of Portland. Self guided tour of the house was interesting, book online ahead of visit.
Kaj Persson
I take it this is one of the best views of downtown and the surrounding areas. The house is super nice on the inside as well, and it's a part of Portland's history. For those who want to visit I would think that an hour to an hour and a half should be enough time, unless you participate in a tour.
Andy Feliciotti
Great spot to explore plus stunning views of the city on the grounds.
Debra Cole
Beautiful property. Wonderful look back to a more genteel way of life.
Yü Wu
Breathtaking panoramic view of Portland (if you catch a great day)!
Pittock Mansion is on the Wildwood trail so I got to pass by it often during my runs. The trail up to the mansion is the hardest part of the trail but not overwhelmingly strenuous. The view comes as the perfect reward for the climb. The first time I came here, I was simply speechless when the view opens up to the panorama. Sunrise and sunset times are the most incredible just make sue you pick a clear day because otherwise you may not see anything at all.
If you come by trail, it would take quite a while whether you come from Washington Park or Forest Park (2-3 hard miles). I have come up here walking as well, take bus 20 to Barnes Rd and then it's a 15 min hike on paved roads.
Tori North
Communication is a little shaky right now, but that's relatively understandable since they just opened back up. However, the house is beautiful, the tour is self guided and the views around the mansion are beautiful. The surrounding property is dog friendly--not the mansion itself. Cute little gift store after the tour. Lovely little hiking trail around the mansion. Pay to park required.
Kevin
Very cool place to check out we ended up staying about 1 1/2 hours with doing the tour and checking out the scenery. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable asked a few questions about some of the interesting finds in the house. We paid for parking at near by meters going around the mansion is free, to get in is about $12 a person be sure to get tickets in advance or they can be purchased via web page at the mansion. Very interesting seeing all the advanced things done to the house for the time it was built in.
Amy
I would have loved to see the inside, but we visited and enjoyed the outdoors. It was beautiful and nicely kept. The views were great, too! I would be happy to return and go on some of the hiking trails - some of the tree views are stunning!

Great spot for a hike and views of the city. One of the top spots for a picnic or just a hike to and from witches castle. Make sure to get to the mansion before 3 because it closes at 4 and takes about 45 min to go through.
Santi
My wife and I came here for an Addams family themed family photo shoot on a Sunday afternoon after it had closed. The exterior made a fantastic setting for our theme and with the late afternoon sun, the light was perfect.
From the top there's a fantastic view of Portland and mt hood on a clear day. You can get here driving or hiking from a variety of trailheads if you're ok for a bit of a climb.
The interior is probably not too great for little ones but elementary age kids and up may enjoy the tour.
Abbie D
We got to go up here at the peak of the fall leave changing color. The grounds are gorgeous up there, and the house is incredible!!! I absolutely loved walking through the home and seeing how they lived back then. The furniture and appliances are not all original to the home, but all from the same time period, and it was absolutely fascinating to see. I would go back!
robert m
charming mansion with lots of history abt their prominent family, as well as the evolutional of portland (from a small town to a big industrialized city).
Tushar Jain
Must visit spot on your trip to Portland. You get to see the entire view of the city and Mt. Hood and the views are amazing. There are brilliant fall colors throughout the area. There are trails as well if that interests you. There is option to go inside the Mansion and take a tour! Ample of parking space and drive up to the mansion was really good! They have also banners to maintain social distancing at regular intervals.
Gonzalo Juarez
Behind the scenes tour is not worth it in my opinion. You'll be taken through spots in the house that aren't open to the public but that's because they've been turned into storage rooms or offices. It takes away from the immersion of the tour since all other rooms are decorated according to the time period.
Christopher Nelson
It's not what I expected, but I don't know if that's good or bad. Basically a wealthy man built a beautiful house which fell into disrepair. Instead of bulldozing it, the city bought it. Now it has a lot of stuff in it that may or may not have been original and may or may not represent the time period when they lived. Not worth the entry price IMHO, but the view is nice and it's free.
Dave Korpi
Stunning piece of Portland history. The grounds around the Mansion are free to the public minus a small parking fee. If you want to tour the Mansion cost $8 for children and $11 for adults. The view of Portland and walking the grounds is worth the visit in of itself.
Sridhar Mocherla
Great views of Portland from an elevated viewpoint. The mansion itself was closed due to COVID but we could walk around the gardens and explore the area. A must-visit if you’re in the area.
Grant Stalley
a must for anyone visiting Portland. The house itself is very neat as you take a brief step back in time, especially over the holidays. The amazing views of downtown are an added bonus.
shabnam student
We were impressed by its beauty. If you wanna dive into deep history, feel yourself in old historical American movies, you should definitely visit this mansion. ❤️
Cindy Puzio
The views are free and beautiful. The mansion costs $12 and is amazing. Worth the money.
Jenny Reviewer
Had a great time at the mansion, it's beautiful inside and out. Family-friendly. Bought my tickets the morning of and there were only 2 other families/groups inside so we felt very safe and distanced. The mansion has so much character, definitely recommend visiting inside. The garden area and trail outside are free to visit, parking is free also.

I am going to attend jogging activity next month. So I went to Washington park for exercise. I run up to Pittock Mansion, although I don't see the view of Portland downtown city but clouds and fog covered whole is still beautiful. I felt like a fairy was walking in the wonderland.
Rosalea Peters
Gorgeous spot to visit - whether you stay outside or take a tour through the mansion. We recently visited for their Christmas tour and it was so pretty and the historical markers throughout gave such a great history for us to follow along with.
Maulsri Jha
Such a jewel in the middle of the forest park. Its a must visit in the Portland Area and the house itself is amazing. The architecture is splendid with amazingly decorated rooms and interiors. The furniture was exquisite and the entire experience was magical. It was a beautiful drive as well from Portland. The rain made it even more romantic.
Chris Perez
Best View of Mt. Hood and Downtown Portland I've seen from the West Hills.
Patricia Kenedy
Absolutely breathtaking, worth the trip! Such a beautiful place and gorgeous view. Loved the trails in the woods on the same property , there is a few to enter the mansion but the hikes and views are absolutely free and I would have paid if needed to. Enjoy!
Ruthie Elizabeth
absolutely best view in all of portland (that i have found). the mansion is beautiful to walk through and the grounds are stunning. it’s free to walk around but you must pay to park.
admission is $16.50 and it’s definitely worth it during the holiday season.
Sally Zhang
Amazing view of the Mt. Hood and the whole city. The self-guided tour was with clearly directed arrows on the floor. We learned a lot about Portland and Vanport history, which later made our next stop direct head to Portland International Raceway.
Emrick Ong
Such a beautiful building with a very beautiful view!
Ali Nabavi (LukeyLuck)
I only toured the grounds, independently, but it was gorgeous. The views of the city and the mountains were spectacular! What a peaceful, serene place to be.
Victoria Hawkins
A lot more crowded then when we first started going but still beautiful and peaceful with plenty of walking trails and scenery to shoot. Restrooms are always full lol if you want to tour inside the mansion you'll need to purchase tickets online, last time we went they were sold out. Go check it out
Shannon Green
Absolutely gorgeous mansion restored and decorated to represent different times periods during which it was occupied. Really fun to see the top of the line amenities from 100+ years ago!
Jeffrey Archer
Interesting 1 hour tour of a turn-of-the-century mansion. Beautiful views around the mansion is an added bonus.
Allison Taylor
Went here with my family and we all enjoyed it. The grounds were beautiful and the mansion itself was neat. It took us about an hour to tour the inside.
Dusty Kurtic
Beautiful old mansion that is very well maintaind and furnished with period correct furniture. Great to visit as it is nearby to Washington Park Rose Garden and Japanese Garden. Suggest you visit all three. We did today. It was a great day!
Pamela Martin
What a beautiful serene place to relax and enjoy your day. Looking forward to visiting again.
Mathias Ellegiers
Beautiful views from here over downtown and Mt Hood.

I had a very long wait before my flight left and a local suggested this place. Being a history buff, I was so pleasantly surprised by the World's Fair Lewis and Clark exhibit on the bottom floor. Such an interesting time period!
The house is gorgeous, the grounds are so pretty, especially with all the shaded trails through the woods.
The gate house is definitely worth the little walk down the hill. I love all the period displays, clothes, kitchen utensils, cabinet products.
The view of the city from behind the house is breathtaking. And then you turn around and see how splendid the house looks from the back. It's definitely a fairytale of a place.
Loved my visit here!
James Bradley
Visit was okay. Mansion sits on a hill with vast view of Portland below. Couple of issues that made it less impressive than I'd hoped for. First is they have furnished it non specific to what the family would have. Your seeing different period furniture. Second is the person doing the admittance obviously hated their job. Super rude and non-welcoming. They need a different front desk person for sure. Maybe I'm just jaded. Once you've been through the Biltmore mansion tour in Asheville, NC. nothing compares.
Jeremy Hannaford
This was one of the coolest museum experiences I've had in a while. The design of this house was pretty stand out for it's time. The original owner/designer wanted it built in heavy stone, because he witnessed the aftermath of the earthquake in San Francisco and saw that a majority of remaining buildings were stone.
Everything is so well maintained and they do a great job talking about how the community has come together to keep this building alive for others to come and explore and learn about it.
It was also pretty cool when we went up to see it in late November, as there was this heavy fog in the area and it made it look like a super spooky haunted mansion!
Nate W
Beautiful tourist attraction to stop by while in Oregon. Was a perfect day to stop by and show the kiddo the view of Oregon.
Jason L
Intriguing mansion and surrounding grounds that make for a nice picnic destination, architecture and Portland history tour. Won't change your life, but a worthwhile jaunt for diversion of a couple hours.
Janine MJoi
I didn't go in, at 12 bucks a pop just to go in and see furniture my grandmother used to own, eh. But the grounds are gorgeous! Bring your best camera. Yes, I like flowers. There is up on the patio outside the windows purple glass set in the patio. They have flowers I've never seen. The bluish purple ones with pointy pedals, are called Sea Holly. Parking is super super tight. But you really should go. just walk around outside you'll be glad you did. There is a portrait at the end of the garden that shows the old city of Portland, it's fun trying to figure out what is what. And you meet some really nice people there.
Jessica Fawkes
This spot boasts one of the most breathtaking views of Portland you will ever have the pleasure of witnessing. Pro-tip: go on a clear, sunny day in the fall, and you won't be disappointed. The combination of seeing Mt. Hood and the sprawling Portland skyline surrounded by the vibrant fall foliage is absolutely amazing ❤
Glenn Adkins
Really beautiful house,if you like old stuff you will love this house. The grounds are well maintained, and the view down on Portland is amazing.
Vanessa Littrell
This was our first visit. We were lucky to be there in December. The Christmas decorations are gorgeous. This year was a literary theme. Each room decorated by a team of designers. Amazingly whimsical...Harry Potter, Cinderella, Agatha Christy and more! if you are in town during the holidays, make sure to visit the mansion. Well worth it!!
Andrea Crisp
My mom and I had a wonderful time seeing the 2019 Christmas displays. Each room inspired by a different book, by a different designer. Many of our favorites from childhood. It was fun, inventive and gorgeous. Each holiday season has a different theme.
Lots of interesting Portland history. Although cloudy, we had a good view of Mt. Hood. We'd never been before, but will be back to see the grounds in the spring/summer and see how the house looks normally, plus the other mountains.
It's handicap accessible to a point. There is an elevator that will fit a regular wheelchair, but it's still an old house and elevator. Doable, but not built for it. Scotters probably won't fit.
Adam Ricoo
Beautiful exhibit, loved all the history. The staff is friendly and they keep this place in perfect condition.
Will definitely visit again
David
Interesting old mansion built in 1914 by the 2nd owner of the Oregonian newspaper. Very charming and elegant for it's time with all the latest technology for the time. One of the must see spots to see at Christmas, every room decorated and beautiful. House is build high in the West hills with almost a 360 degree view of the Portland area.
Nathan Jelinek
The view is pretty great of Portland from up top, so definitely worth a visit, especially if you have extra time and a car. I wouldn't say it's a must see, but it was cool nonetheless. Walking up to it is a serious endeavor - very steep and not a lot of shade, but a lot of cool houses on the way! I'd recommend driving up, personally, we walked and it was quite a workout. The mansion itself cost money to go through a tour, but we didn't do that since it seemed like a lot for a house tour, and there was a line.
Dustin Ooley
Finally made my way in for a self guided tour followed by a "behind the scenes" tour. A fair bit of history is packed into this house, and it's definitely worth the trip for either type of tour. Staff was very friendly and helpful (and many of them were volunteers). Would recommend a visit for anyone who lives or works in the Portland metro area that is interested in a little history. The grounds are also beautiful, and free to roam. There are at least two trail approaches to the mansion, so it's possible to hike up from elsewhere.
Dustin Ooley
I have had the opportunity to do the regular and the "behind the scenes" tour. Both are strongly recommended to get a full appreciation for this house. This is a great destination during a hike in the more urban areas of Forest Park, and rumor is that they are building a pedestrian bridge over Burnside to prevent the scramble across that busy road.
Seth Ryerson
Fun experience. a little boring, but it is fun to learn more information about the Pittock family.
Merrick Harvey
Went on a windy day so it was a tad bit chilly, however the view was nice. I would recommend going on a super clear day because it’s said you can see multiple mountain’s in the distance
Ellen Mendoza
Beautiful turn of the century mansion with great views. The decorate all the rooms for Christmas and have holidays music by local musicians during the season
Trish Erickson
We vsited the first week of April. It was rainy, but still a great place to explore. The mansion is full of historical information and beautiful, interesting things to see. It was a little early for a lot of the grounds, I can only imagine what it will look like in about a month and on a day with some sun! Even with the rain, it wad beautiful and worth the trip. Parking was decent, bathrooms available with a little gift shop on site too.
Saransh Gupta
The tour of Pittock mention is worth going to once but the view of the skyline is worth going every single time you visit Portland.
The sunrise specially is very peaceful and colorful. Although, you might encounter multiple photographers.
Erik Hovland
Beautiful mansion that has been painstakingly restored over a 40 year period. Amazing views, room after room. The docents were friendly. The grounds were a colorful red and gold in the Fall. There were hiking trails nearby. We really enjoyed our time there
Konstantin Goldin
Gorgeous place, worth a few hours on a rainy day - and possibly much longer on a sunny day. Amazing view of Portland, and 1.25m (approximately) trail.
Michael Fox
What's great about this place is you don't need to pay to enter the grounds area. Come here to read a book under a tree, have a family picnic, or people watch even. Great views all around and hiking trails. Overall a nice, clean environment with lots to do.
DMP Masters
Lots of good trails and great view of portland.
Wendy McKeown
This is a well maintained historic mansion with lots of interesting period furniture, and photos of the history of Portland ( including floods and windstorms). The entrance fee was reasonable - $11 for adults. There are plenty of steps to climb, in the main house and the smaller gatehouse. Outside, there's a lovely garden with heirloom roses and other flowers. There are amazing panoramic views of downtown Portland, the surrounding volcanoes. There is a gift shop and restrooms open to the public. There is a trail that goes into the forest and connects with Forest Park. Plenty to see and do!
Nate Van Houten
If you enjoy a great view!! And an incredible mansion and grounds to walk around and explore. Added with some great history. This is perfect! Trust me. I didn’t give it one more star. For the simple reason I didn’t take the tour. Maybe the tour is absolutely amazing I don’t know. But, I do know The day that me and my friend explored this mansion was a wonderful memory. I enjoyed every single minute exploring the grounds. This is a wonderfully well capped preserve piece of history. I hope you take time to enjoy it.
Chris Chris
The Pittock Manson is history at your front door . The tour is self guided but with COVID distancing requirements. Be aware you need to buy tickets online ! They are around $9. Parking was free but crowded on a Saturday. The back area
Of the Manson is defiantly the best view of the Portland Skyline and MT Hood on a clear day.
Extra Bonus, The trail head also has easy access from the parking lot.
Redlette
Amazing amazing a thousand times i could say the art work of the building the build of the building is amazing all the art the hard work put into detail is outstanding. You will never see design like this now a days. Diffenetly a place for people to see the hole view of downtown portland is even better.
There little logde is awesome to the way it is designed going down a side of the hill.
A must check out theres plenty of parking you get tickets to go in at a garage off in front of the house. Injoy some photos
Ang Collins
Such a great historical place to visit! Parking is tricky but it is free! If you want to tour the mansion and gate house there is a fee but it's super reasonable. The views from the point are breathtaking and worth the trip up the hill. Go earlier if you to enjoy the area with less people around.
Stephanie Nesbitt
Beautiful location. The views of the city were not as impressive as some websites and blogs made it out to be but the expansive mansion grounds and all there is to see there makes up for it. I recommend the hike from here to the Stone House, it's not a difficult hike but there is a bit of an elevated switchback coming up on the way back.
Jennifer Peickert
Beautiful place, stunning views, and the gardens... free to walk around the grounds and just embrace the beauty that is pittocks grounds, the viewing area is perfect for a picnic or just to unwind and relax. The gardens were very well taken care of and blooms were perfect. We walked the grounds and it is a hike, there were some people that use the hills to and around the property as a workout trail (I wouldn't advise making it your workout trail because the traffic coming to the house is bad). I've been to many beauty properties on the east coast and this gives them a run for their money!
Mel Law
Great views of the city and beautiful architecture. The gardens were also nice, even while going in the fall. We didn't go inside because we got there close to closing but was still worth the trip.
Andrew
Rich in history and period pieces, this tour was educational and entertaining. Lots to see both inside the house and along the sprawling grounds. Great view of the city from the grassy knoll.
Victoria Dixon
This mansion is pretty neat. There is a "man cave" and all the bedrooms are huge! Beautiful staircase and interrsting tidbits to read along the self guided tour. There is a small fee to do the tour, but the view is beautiful!
Keith Lowry
We visited during January and the museum is closed this month every year for repairs and maintenance. It was still worth the trip! The home and gardens are beautiful and the view of Portland gets 5 stars all by itself! We'll be back someday to tour the mansion and hike the trails that start from here and take you through the woods of Washington Park.
Mo shay
Coolest place. I love old mansions with a good story and history. This place is the crown of Portland Oregon as I refer to it. The views of the city from the backyard are spectacular. The mansion itself is a work of art and a definite peace of food for the eyes. The staff are friendly and helpful and quite knowledgeable. There is a grand piano there that people can play on if they ask the people working for permission. Parking is a little tight so i would recommend going earlier before sunset to avoid this business
Chris Shearer
While I did not take the tour inside the mansion, just visiting was worthwhile. I ubered from Downtown and was dropped off right at the gate. You can pay to tour the inside but I just did a little walking around to the big overlook to see Downtown. Then I ran down the hill through some fantastic trails. Loved all the facts like a daughter of Pittock having come across on the Oregon Trail.
Tara Madison
Beautiful grounds, impressive historic mansion, gorgeous views and hiking trails.
It’s beautiful all year round, but my favorite time is in the fall because the wide variety of deciduous plants on and around the grounds make for a gorgeous setting!
Kim C
The best views of Portland can be seen at this location. The best part is you don’t even have to pay to go to the grounds. Come here for the views on a clear sunny day or you won’t see Mt Hood. Bring your family and go hike around the trails. If you want to read about Portland history, it’s $10 to go inside to view. There are stories about the family that lived there and has pictures of the city when it first started. There were floods and fires and you can see how people lived in the early 1900s. A very cool experience!
Ninoslav Petrovic
Very nice view. When weather is good, it's a must see in Portland.
The house inside is turned into museum, and most of it seems authentic. It is a fine display of eras house went through and a testimony to how the city and culture has evolved. Ok to see, but if you are not dedicated fan of Portland history or landscaping, don't expect too much - it isn't.
Btw, the view is free, you pay only for museum visit 😃
naren tag
Best views of Portland from the top here. On a sunny day, without clouds, you can see Mt Hood from the top. The place is peaceful with beautiful gardens and pleasant weather makes up a perfect time to take a stroll through the place. Well maintained and must visit. Closes by 9pm
Corey Whitworth
A must visit for visitors. You can tour the mansion and grounds at your own pace. The view of downtown is worth going since it's free and makes for a nice picnic spot as there is a large yard or nearby picnic tables. The ticketed, self guided tour is not too overpriced as if you take your time to really take in the history, you can spend at least an hour or two.
Audrey Webster
We visited on a whim one Saturday afternoon. It's a beautiful home with incredible views. It's story has an important place in Portland's history. The restoration of the building was spearheaded by citizens inkeeping with the true spirit of the Pacific Northwest to do for ourselves! Thankfully the city did eventually step up to help as well.
Give yourself three or four hours to really enjoy your visit.
Kathryn Esham
Full disclosure: I only hiked in the local woods and checked out the view from the edge of the property here, didn’t actually see inside the house. That being said this was an excellent Friday morning stop on my way out of Portland. Views of the city are not to be missed and the local woods are beautiful and peaceful, though there was a good amount of traffic. Highly recommend making the trek up just to check out some nature if you need a breather.
Prashant Dumbre
Pittock Mansion is very carefully and beautiful preserved Victorian era Home. This mansion has dedicated care takers who manages everything to make this mansion beautiful and intact. They recently installed history boards with all necessary information along with the vintage photographs of the family members, architects and workers who built this mansion. Each and every room is very beautifully preserved like Pittock family is still living there. Rise garden surrounds the mansion contains more than 200 various types of rose plants. Hill point view of the mansion shows a panaromic view of Portland city. Must visit place for everyone.
Karen Saunders
What a lovely mansion. Reminded me of the many mansions we have visited in Newport (Vanderbilts) the views and the grounds all around were spectacular as well. Great place for family !
Eilleen V
Pittock Mansion is an awesome property. You can hike to the mansion via Wildwood Trail or drive up as parking is free and plentiful.
The gardens are beautiful, free to wander and explore and offer an incredible view of the Portland skyline.
There is a small fee to enter the mansion itself but it is well worth it. Unfortunately we missed the tour, which is apparently great and takes you through areas not normally accessible to the public... But even wandering around on our own was a blast. Lots of plaques posted in each room providing a ton of information about the mansion, the Pittock's and life in general in early 1900s Portland.
whvtitiz w
Easy to find with signs guiding you to the top whether you hike or drive it. I especially like the fun/random facts along the side driving to the top. Nice sized parking lot with an additional lot for busier times. I unfortunately did not go into the house, you have to pay a fee to get in the house but you can still walk around the property and check out the amazing view of the city. Definitely a must if visiting Portland!
Yah Moht
Everything is awesome, including the mansion and the breathtaking panoramic views of the Portland City and mountains surrounding it. I took the bus and got off at the foothill of the mansion. Luckily, there was a van that would take tourists all the way to the top for free (I guess it was only for holidays) at minutes 10 and 40 of every hour. The ticket to see the mansion was $12 for adults. There were discounts for kids and seniors, maybe in the range of 50%. It is very nice to see that a mansion that was built in 1914 was so well equipped. The views of snow-capped mount Hood, Saint Helens, Jefferson, etc. are super nice. Definitely will stop by to see just the mountains again.
Kimberly Richardson
I love this place, best view in the whole city!! It's particularly restricted with the covid safety. But still a beautiful historical place to vist.
Easten Lovelace
Beautiful mansion full of history and art.
The space host a changing variety of art. Bedrooms are decorated in furniture/decor that varies in time period. Most of the mansion is free to walk about and explore which makes the trip worth it alone.
Beautiful views from the front yard if you don’t want to pay for inside access. Several hiking trails that leave from the adjacent parking lot.
Layne Doyle
Gorgeous home with a paired view of the city! Nice hike if you choose that route or you can drive up and park. Large home with gorgeous rose filled garden. Lots of history here.
Andrew F.
Beautiful, beautiful landscape and hike. There's easily enough trail around to hike for 8+ hours. Really lush and gorgeous landscape with tons of indigenous plants. Fun fact, it is actually a rainforest, so the only thing you'll ever see is green. If you plan on taking a hike, keep in mind it's a rainforest, and you have dirt paths. It's going to be muddy (rip my converse.) Always bring water too! It's a great time, really just for the incredible views. Dog friendly too!
Marcello Romano
Love the historical point, amazing
Fantastic views over the city and don’t forgot to explore the outside surrounds.
kirti sharma
Great place if you like exploring old mansions and a sneak peek into their lives. Not disappointed at all. Infact if you are in Portland and visiting Rose Garden and Japa see garden then your next stop should be Pittock Mansion.
Kenneth Villatoro
This place is absolutely stunning. The view of Portland was breathtaking from this mansion. The outside was super clean and it wasn't crowded so we got to enjoy all of it. The tour that we did inside the mansion was wonderful. So much of Portland's history was because of this mansion and the people that lived in it. Highly recommend going.
Rian Ragsdale
I love the sense of history that Pittock Mansion contains. This is one of the most beautiful places in the entire city. I love bringing my girls here. The Wildwood trail, which connects to the parking lot, is a wonderful local hike.
Olga Spitsa
I love this place. I did my wedding photos here 15 years ago. The grounds are beautiful for a picnic with the family and beautiful views. We toured the inside today. I’m so glad this was sold to the city/parks of Portland for all of us to enjoy and not some developer . It’s a piece of Portland history , so going is really supporting and preserving a bit of that. And there’s photo ops on every corner .
Mahalia Alvarez
Such a unique place. Was allowed to take some photos of a model here and we got some really cool shots.
Sisi Chen
It was okay beauts. Parking lot can get crowded. We didn't go in but saw some live music playing in the big living room that had a huge window facing the view. Spotted a Harry Potter themed Christmas tree... A lot of families come here for sure.
Alexander
Stunning place even in the fog! Well worth getting up there early and as it opens, parking is a bit limited, but otherwise an amazing place, they do a really good job with the displays inside the house, so if you have a chance to visit it's a must do
Sam DeLiso
Pretty gorgeous views of Portland and the surrounding landscape on a clear day...only a short jaunt up the hill from downtown or neighboring suburbs and well worth the visit. Even if you don't pay to go inside the mansion for some intriguing history, visiting the grounds is enjoyable enough. Parking nearby on site in two lots, free surprisingly. Beautiful place to take visiting friends/family or to just go check out yourself!
Best,

Very well maintained and stately house built in 1914. At 46 rooms it is large but with only 4 family bedrooms I honestly think it’s rather small for a “mansion”. However, it was obviously built for a very prominent and wealthy family of Portland. Having grown up and lived in 18th and 19th century houses this house doesn’t have the amenities and service facilities of houses of that era but showcases an interesting bridge between that and the modern world. This house was a first in the region in electrical, plumbing, heating and even a central vacuum system. The architecture is imposing and the location provides a wonderful panorama of the city of Portland, Willamette River and on a clear days the Cascades and all five of the mountains of Rainer, St Helens, Adams, Hood and Jefferson. Even on cloudy days the view is impressive. There is admission cost for the mansion but the grounds are free to enjoy. Most visitors seemed respectful and it is very peaceful.
I plan a return visit as I discovered after my first visit that there is an expanded, behind the scenes tour once a month or so that offers visitors a view of the third floor which was apparently servants quarters and other service areas.
Good to see this stately house remains as apparently it was nearly razed in the 1960’s and the people of Portland fought to save it. Purchased by the city of Portland it was renovated and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Funding not only provides staffing and maintenance but a impressive collection of furnishings.
I personally hope there is someday funding to return the grounds and gardens to their former glory and would gladly pay admission to see. Mrs Pittock was instrumental in bringing “rose city” designation to Portland, was a founding member of the Portland Rose Society so I am sure the gardens were gorgeous.
The staff are wonderful and all areas I saw in the main house were ADA accessible. The original elevator is available for wheelchairs but not large motorized models (in which case the museum can provide a standard wheelchair. Prams/strollers are not allowed. Neither are pets.
Adequate parking and public transportation is available via TriMet #20 bus but there is a ~18’ walk up the hill. I did see a sign for a shuttle provided by the museum but did not look into the details.
Jamie Antoni
Very nice views, but they aren't any nicer than the view from a park or a trail. I'm not up on the history of the place, so it doesn't interest me to pay to see the inside of an old house. We hiked up the McClay park trail. The fact that Pittock Mansion was at the top meant nothing to me.
Cris Batoon
This is the color that exactly represents me!!! Lively, vibrant, enthusiastic and free and this is reason why i love this place and it's more fun when you travel with your aunt and Mom❤️❤️❤️
Quentin Stossel
Very cool attraction. The drive in. The walk up the trail. The mansion. The view. The gardens! Be smart...pack a small picnic lunch for the tables overlooking Portland and Mt Hood. The view is superb on a clear sunny day.
Hani El Hajj
This restored mansion is a perfect example of a modern house built in the 1914. It captures all the rich details of that era when Portland was in the making. This place is full of history of one of Portland's first and richest families. You can enjoy the amazing panoramic views of the city and the mountains at the Viewpoint.
Stephen Willis
My wife and I visited Pittock Mansion Christmas Eve Eve. We loved seeing the house decorated for Christmas it was beutifull.
We arrived late in the day so we had to rush to get through the house as they close at 4. Still worth it. We have had this on our Portland "bucket list" for years.
Derek Schott
It is a well known fact that Portland is not one of my favorite towns, but if you want a strenuous hike, take the 6 mile or so jaunt up the Wildwood Trail. Comprised of uphill switch backs, it will bring you to the beautiful early Renaissance style home known as Pittock Mansion. Stroll the grounds, or venture inside. One of the few things in Portland that hasn't been tainted by social upheaval. Enjoy the views which overlook the warzone of PDX.
Elisa H
A bit spendy, but nice things to do in free time.
The whole mansion plus garden is open for exploration and you can read the plaques and other descriptions around the mansion to get a feel for the history if it's just you and/or your company. There's also free tours you can jump into at any point if there is one going on. The tours seem back to back with a handful of minutes in between. I wasn't keeping a good eye on the clock, but it's like 1 - 1.5 hours every tour. Be sure to check out the second home on the property, its smaller, but entry comes with your ticket. There's no tour for that one, but 1-2 people are on site ready for questions. There's a view behind the main mansion that'll give you a good look at Portlands cityscape with a nice view of Mt. Hood. Picnic benches are placed along the fence if you want to snack there or need to sit down. There's also free trails connected to the main mansion, so be sure to check those out while you're up there. Prices are listed on their website and there is no student discount that I saw. Overall, It's a little spendy in my honest opinion, but it's a nice thing to do on a free day or if you're really into these types of buildings.
Hannah Huffman
This mansion is incredible.
The history is really in depth, the people who built it have an uplifting and empowering story about a life full of adventure and fighting for human rights.
At Christmas time they decorate the whole place and in 2019 the theme was story books and every room was a different tale.
Matt C
Pretty cool old mansion. There's more parking than you'd think. Sometimes they have live music, which is very nice. Highlights include a basement billiards room that never had a billiards table, and amazing 360 degree showers. Don't forget to check out the little four story gate lodge next door!
Qiang Li
Must see in Portland! Ticket isn’t cheap, but garden tour is free. You can have a fantastic Portland city view at there.
Elizabeth Clark
Such a fun family outing! And the scenery is picture perfect. If you plan to tour the mansion with children, strollers are only allowed on the main floor.
Matthew Ban
No need to go inside when all we've been doing is being inside. This is by far one of the best places in Portland to visit on a spectacular clear day for the best view of Portland skyline with Mt. Hood in the background. Take your picnic basket and blanket to sit out on the large yard and have a picnic. Don't go too late or you risk not getting a spot. 12-2pm is best time to get a space for the afternoon. A great idea to get kids out of the house and get outdoors.

What an absolute joy it was visiting Pittock Mansion!!
After years living in Oregon we finally stopped by here to see the incredible book themed rooms for the holidays. We were in awe of the of how well maintained the estate was, not to mention how helpful the staff were!
Will absolutely visit here again with friends and family.
Luis Reynoso
This masiomb is fantastic and has a lot of interesting history to it. The flower garden was worth walking through and full of beautiful flowers. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who has a few hours to kill and if you love history museums.
Darci Braden
Gorgeous, well-manicured lawn (and surrounding gardens) and the mansion itself is amazing. The view of the city is incredible!
N Y
Beautiful, fancy pants mansion grounds, but didn't go inside because the admissions price of $13/person seemed a bit steep IMO to see a rich guy's house. Can't believe his property still cashing in the dough long after he's dead. What a baller. Very scenic though. Parking can be a bit of a pain. Lots of people park halfway up and then hike to the top. The hike isn't too long.
Arielle Roper
Offers gorgeous view of Portland. House is beautiful inside and out. Free to park and walk the grounds, but it's $20 to look inside. There's a ton of rooms to look in, so you spend a good amount of time there, but I felt it was a bit overpriced.
Debra Milligan
Amazing place! The grounds are open and the inside soon :) so lovely
Jay Mousavi
This place is very easy to find , it a dive up a hill . The view on the top is gorgeous and you can see downtown Portland far in a clear day . We didn’t do inside the mansion.
Benjamin Yong
Definitely worth the visit if you have a car in Portland. Learned a lot about the history of the mansion owners and of the city itself, and the view from the top is ah-mahz-ing. They even had a live folk band during Christmas time play inside.
Megha Dubey
I like the Mansion specially the interior and all those luxuries. Nice and super scenic surroundings. I love the view of Portland from the top with the mountain Hood. You will have to buy the entry ticket of $10 which is worth if you have interest in history, it is very informative. Clean and well maintained place to visit.
Kerem Celik
Not sure if it woth visiting unless you are really into seeing some people' house. The location and the view was good though
Tay Jones
This place offers great views. Even though the mansion was closed today
姜涛
It’s really beautiful and from the front grassland you can get a great view of Portland downtown.
Uriah Brister
This is one of Portlands secret spots... parking is limited...but the view of Portland from its west side...is just awesome!
...could be a great place for a wedding!
Sirisha M
If you just want to just see what this place is about, you can wrap it up in 15 mins so parking for 15 mins would be perfect unless you want to sit for more time and enjoy the view, there’s a museum and shop to buy stuff there as well.
Lawrence Odom
Huge mansion with big rooms. Can see 12000 of the 16000 to 17000 sqft of the house. Grounds are well kept also and has a beautiful view of Portland.
Patricia Salazar
Beautiful location and amazing view! Great historical information and articles.
Art Ganung
I was glad to visit. Worth seeing where the Rosaians came to be and the 1st printing press this side of the Mississippi.
Elinor Schillo
While we did not go inside for a tour the exterior of the house and surrounding gardens are beautiful. The hiking trails were very easy to access and very well maintained, as was parking. The view at the top is spectacular, even on a foggy day :)
jimh1996
Definitely worth checking out of you're visiting Portland; this was my first time in Portland and I'm glad I went. It's a self-guided tour but the staff/volunteers have done an excellent job creating informative displays for each room. Very cool to see the arrangement of each room and get an idea how people lived during that period. Excellent view of the city as well.
Brandi Collum
Really neat place to check out! I'm so glad we went. The kids had a great time too. Next time we will take the extended tour, even though it costs extra. We really wanted to see the basement. Make sure you check pricing, we were a little surprised when it came to over $50 for our family admission.
RAHUL H
Great way to see the luxurious life of wealthy american family during 1914. Also get the glimpse of history of Portland.
The view of Portland city from this mansion is amazing, with Mt Hood at the background.
Kruthi J
A lovely historic building with a spectacular view of the city! A must visit if you are in Portland. I sat and read a couple of pages of a book, loved every minute!
Daniel Sarmiento
The views that you can enjoy from the mansion are absolutely beautiful. Our group did not go into the mansion itself but were more than satisfied with taking in the view of downtown that you can see from the hillside. Parking can be a bit of a pain if you get there when it is crowded and driving along the road leading up to the mansion can be tricky with other large vehicles sharing the road.
Puddingstone
Breathtaking views. Excellent gardens with labels and stories.. give yourselves a couple hours here
Paige Kesler
This was a great way to get to know the city of Portland! It was fascinating to learn about one of the first wealthy families to live there. The mansion is really cool and the hike through forest park is a fun way to get there! Take the scenic route ☺️ don’t drive!
Margaret D'Amico
You can hike it or you can drive it! In early August the flowers are all in bloom. Has the best view of Portland in the city on the west side. I always take people visiting here.
Brandy Brown
I've been wanting to visit the Pittock Mansion for over a year, but I'm thrilled that I went around Christmas. The Mansion was decorated so beautifully!! The staff was extremely informative, and really really friendly. There was also a Santa there for pictures. I will definitely be going back to see what it's like undecorated.
Houman Jafari Jam
It was an amazing sunny day. Go visit this place it will do your soul good
Anna Lin
Didn't realize how large Forest Park yet! Residents told me to be careful as you can definitely get lost here and I see what they mean! Pittock mansion is absolutely gorgeous, you can drive up pretty close or hike up hill to get here. Fantastic view of the city and gorgeous trees, flowers and other plants all around. Restrooms are small and there's a little gift shop as well.
siobhan han
Very good place to see the whole Portland. Also Mt Hood can be seen here. I wait for the sunset and it will be cold during the night. I am late for visiting the House, if you want to visit it , you need to be here before 4PM
Shannon “Shannannigans83” Hughes
Very cool place. You can wait for a tour guide or do a self guided tour. If you wait for a guide, you learn a lot more.
Lots of really cool vintage stuff to look at, look not touch!
The views are amazing!!!!! Absolutely beautiful place!
James Hall
It's frankly the best view in all of Portland. Overlooks all of downtown with Mt Hood right in the middle on clear days. Best place to view the sunrise too. The parking lot may still be closed early in the morning but you're allowed to access the viewing area at all hours of the day, even the middle of the night if you want. Definitely worth checking out if you're visiting Portland.
Chungmin Jeong
Really nice view point, we're late to get the entrance but worth to get going there.
Bot Dingo
Amazing! Just for the views alone it's worth visiting but the mansion itself is quite impressive. Literally something for anyone.
Tammy Harwick
Unique Home with amenities ahead of their time! Gorgeous grounds and setting! Worth seeing!!!
Eddie Mencke
Beautiful old house with lots of local history. Each room was decorated in a different winter theme for the holidays.
Rich Ash
For now I was only able to visit the exterior as I was late. Very beautiful. I did manage to get a shot of downtown Portland from that location.
Rebekah Berdecia
I enjoyed the mansion and the history behind it. The view was amazing.
wayne walker
Amazing place to visit and see early 20th century buildings and innovations. A great place to take the family and or significant other to walk around.
Keanu Ybarra
Little pricey, and weird that you have to pay for parking in their parking. But beautiful architecture. Also needed a guided tour. But the employees were very knowledgeable, just couldn't find them at times
Nynuh Titova
Such a cool historical place to visit. We had a wonderful time doing the tour and seeing all the historical items and seeing what the mansion used to look like. It was a tad bit hot and crowded so we missed an area but overall highly reccomend visiting!!
Debbie Albert
Got to be real here: I have been to the Biltmore in NC and the Hearst Castle in CA, and the Pittock Mansion doesn't come close to either, but the views and horticulture make it worth it to stop by. A good day trip is Pittock Mansion then Portland Aerial Tram from OHSU, and lunch or dinner at Portland City Grill on 30th floor of US Bancorp Building. Great combo!
Echo Farnsworth
Amazing place
Well worth the 12 bucks
To me it's like walking back into time
Love the historical vibe
Here's a couple pics- out of the tons I took
Just to get ya intrested ✌🕯🕰🏰
Gary Bate
It's nice house, especially with all the Christmas decorations.unfortunately the day we were there all foggy so no view. A little expensive for what there is there but that's life.
Blake Blake
Nice little hikes, gorgeous views of Portland, beautiful flowers, nice house too. And a nice family story.
Luke Murphy
Beautiful piece of Portland’s history. Admission fee was too high though. Some stunning views, especially in the fall.
Gulia A
Come here every time I visit Portland. Always something new to learn about the history of Portland and Pittock family.
sahra azimi
Pittock mansion is located in the heart of Portland and is such a magnificent mansion with details about the Pittock family and how the house turned into a visitor mansion
Corinne Rose Baxter
A must see if you’re visiting and a wonderful location to come back to any season.
Whitney Taylor
What an amazing place to witness the juxtoposition of values in our society. I'm not only referencing the perfectly preserved house and grounds... I'm talking about the spirit of the man who trekked across the country until he hit the ocean, to then build a house with his bard hands overlooking the mountain he climbed at least 4 timeswhile he sipped his coffee... And how we have as a culture essentially curbed that maverick spirit and put a mosoleum in its place which now overlooks a portland festering to the brim with broken people milling about with no where to call home. Portland is a strange place indeed, and to me the pittock mansion is the best place in town to sip your morning coffee.
Nick Villanti
Great hike to take your kids and an amazing view.
Rohini Narayanaswamy
This was the first stop on our Oregon trip. Beautiful mansion with great snippets on the history and fun facts of Portland area. The highlight is a lovely view of Portland..and also Mt. Hood on a clear day.
Anita Hershman
Gorgeous, historic home with period furnishings and rich family history tied to the founding of Portland. Exquisite view and beautiful garden! Great stop!
Marguerite Martin
A fun place to visit with a fantastic view of Portland. It’s an easy 30 minute hike from Hoyt Arboredum or just drive up and park right there. I visited and toured the house with my Aunt and Uncle and we all found the history really interesting- but if the mansion is closed (or you just don’t feel like a tour) the grounds and view are worth a visit all on their own!
Jeremy Mills
Lots of history here. The drive to the top is amazing! The mansion itself is filled with original objects from the Pittock family. Best view of Portland i have ever seen! Its only ten bucks for adults, or go there on free museum day.
Vicky b
Tickets are expensive to see old-school items, and living styles recommend visiting at least once. Different experience.
Wendy Lien
Didn't get to go inside the house but we walked around the garden. The most beautiful view of downtown and Mt Hood was from here. To can also walk trails from here.
Rachel D.
Lovely architecture and grounds. It was great to learn about the history here and I also enjoyed the exhibit they had downstairs. Also fantastic view of the city from here.
James Driskell
Beautiful mansion. Wonderful to walk through and see how people lived more than a hundred years ago. Took daughter who was wheelchair bound through this place. At every transition onto and off of the old historic elevator that Giorgiana used in her older years, the staff were there to assist with negotiating the transfer. The elevator was very small and challenging with the wheel chair my daughter had. Just use one of theirs for the elevator as it is too narrow for many other ones from outside the museum. They were so kind and helpful with my daughter that I wanted to make sure they got the credit they deserved. Lovely staff and very kind people.
Kiki
I loved this hike! Great for a moderate to challenging hike if you go at fast. I brought my dog and she loved it.
Nick Darlow
Very well kept house, in beautiful surroundings. Very informative displays. Great views. Quite a climb, I recommend driving up!
Sam Nichols
Due to COVID-19 capacity limits, the wait for the tickets was tough (as we didn't book online in advance). If you don't get in line 20 minutes before each half-hour increment, they likely turn you away and tell you to wait for the next half hour. This happened to us twice because the first time, we showed up right as the half hour mark passed but we didn't hover around waiting for the ticket line to start 20-ish mins before the increment. The view on the property is super nice, you can see the whole city and Mt. Hood. The inside is very lavish and you end up learning a lot about not only the family who lived there, but foundational history of Portland and a lost city called Vanport. Lots of social history of Oregon is explained including it's racial origins. Overall a really enjoyable house to tour, beautiful property, and great history, just make sure to book your ticket online in advance as you will otherwise be waiting for a while as the capacity fills up really fast!
Chris Aquino
Really neat to see how the Pittocks lived but unfortunate that none of the furnishings are original. The tour guide (cannot remember her name) was amazing and super nice!
Rachel “ABQBirdLady” Scates
Nothing short of beautiful. The staff are so very accommodating and informative. Such an insight into the life of the wealthy Victorian era family. I will return.
EDWIN CUPELY
Excellent place to experience early XX Century luxurious lifestyle. A very well preserved place, with astonishing decorations.
Daniel (Olbad)
Easy parking even when its busy(I went on Memorial Day Weekend). Worth it just to see the view from the top which doesn't require admission. The Mansion itself is very beautiful and is full of placards containing rich history about Portland and some of its earliest wealthy families such as the Failings, Corbetts and Couches. The grounds keepers house is also accessible, the Skene family, the grounds keeper himself looked like Flea from The Red Hot Chili Peppers. A must visit for tourists.
Christopher Lee Warren
Awesome view. Happy 4th
Nick Nikzat
We were worried about COVID, so we didn't tour the inside of the mansion, but the grounds and the views of Portland are spectacular! There's also a nice trail which starts right from the parking area, and we walked a bit of it. Very well maintained!
Karthik Nathan
Peaceful royal exhibition of a family's mansion. Great insights on the daily household products which were used a decade back . Best to visit during Christmas !
Cassy Clayman
Like most of my travel experiences that end up being my favorite we ended up here spontaneously. Tbe mansion itself was closed for the day but visitors could still walk the grounds. It was a nice walk but the key to it was this view overlooking the city and out to Mt. Hood. This is a must do stop for Portland residents and visitors alike!
Con Brennan
Well cared for historic landmark not to mention absolutely stunning views of the city and some great trails!!
Mark Capriotti
Great view of the city and Mt. Hood. $2 for parking and the grounds are free to roam around. Worth the visit on a clear day.
Chris Ellison
There's not much to say. It's a beautiful old mansion frozen in time. Taking your sweet time you're able to see all in 30 minutes. Free parking available but can be challenging to find a spot.
Shayna Patel
Really really cool house to see. There’s a lot of cool things inside but it doesn’t have much historical significance- it’s just a cool house. Make sure to check out the view of Portland from the backyard it’s the best view of the city!
Laurie Horton
Most eye-opening was the exhibit “Black in ORegon’ , in the lower level. Otherwise Interesting history of Portland, as well as insight into the furnishing of an historic building.
Rachel Novotny
Fantastic stop if you're visiting Portland. The mansion is beautiful and provides some insight into Portland's history. They offer guided tours, but you can still get a lot out of the visit if you options for the self guided option.
You can tour the entire mansion in around an hour - it makes a perfect stop after a trip to the zoo.
The views from the grounds are breathtaking, perhaps some of the best views in Portland. The gorgeous overlooks of the city are well worth the visit to the mansion.
Ruth Henry
I absolutely love this visit to the manison. I learned so much visiting this house. Especially the Vanport history.
Paul
Beautiful grounds, flowers, house, view, and trails. The gates close at 9pm well after the house closes at 5. Walk around the outside after 5 or take the trails around the house.
Benjamin Buan
Took the hike up here and the view was very nice. Many nice flowers as well and places to rest if you do the hike before going down.
Amy Anderson
We hiked to the top via the Lower Macleay Park trail. It's 5.4 miles from the bottom to the top and back again. We didn't go into the mansion, so I can't speak to that - but the view is awesome! People were taking tons of pictures of the view and around the mansion.
It's worth it to go on a nice day just for the view of downtown, and there's even a little gift shop. I'd love to go in on the next visit.
ven shev
always a great place to go for a good view. Bring snacks and a good conversation 👍🏻👍🏻
Picnic tables are available with a great view, and some grass patches. …
Joe Mason
I just walked around the outside, parking was packed but beautiful views. I'd like to get back and go inside when it's less crowded
Paul Knarr
Walkes up from 1st street to the pittock mansion. Great hiking trails past international Rose garden. Grade is very steep at times. Well worth the climb. House and grounds are beautiful with great views of the city. Came back down thru the hills in the city. Nice to look at homes in the neighborhoods
Rachel Gut
Beautiful! Well worth the long walk up the hill.
Salih Kuloglu
It is a very beautiful place. It has amazing view of Portland. We liked it a lot.
T Chang
Wonderfully restored Maison siting perched on hilltop. Gives nice views of the city with mount hood in background. Entry tickets $10 for adults. Surprising to see all the mod cons such as intercom, refrigerator, climate controlled heating in a 1910s house.
Raschell Smith
We didn’t take the tour but went for the views. Such a great place to see the city of Portland with Mt Hood and Mt St Helens in the distance. Next time I hope to take the tour. Seemed like there was some interesting history.
Denis Mallyugin
Place looks cool. Nice museum. Amazing view. Great place for wedding pictures and senior photos. Its really quiet
John Pelonio
Fees for parking and to enter building. Parking fee can be paid onsite at machine or through Parking Kitty app. Can walk around building and look at the view and grounds without paying for entry. Grounds are well landscaped with plenty of plants to see. There is a gift shop, but did not go in. The mansion is well worth the cost of entry. Furnishings are not necessarily original to house, but explanations are provided. A lot of information about the family and early Portland history. Restrooms are available next to the gift store and inside the mansion before you exit. Restrooms were clean but odorous. Picnic tables are available at the viewpoint beyond the mansion. Took the trail from the parking lot to the Arboretum. The part before the bridge has a lot of graffiti on retaining walls and is inadequately marked with just signs saying Wildwood Trail with arrows in both directions. No indications of compass direction, distance or destination. The signs are better once you cross the bridge into Washington Park. Benches are available along the trail in Washington Park.
Dominique Tran
One of my favorite stops when visiting Portland. This place will grant you a beautiful scenic view of the city in a great secluded place. I wasn't able to check out the inside of the mansion but from the exterior, it looked promising. Either way, stop here for a great birds eye view of the cityscape.
Candice Dhuri
Would definitely recommend this place to people. It was nice to see the old mansion rebuilt to match the past so closely. Everything was kept nicely and covid rules followed.
Drew Sinclair
This is the view you're looking for. Surrounded by hiking trails and encapsulating early Portland history, there's something for everyone here. Maybe not children, but you know yours best anyway and probably won't need this review to know if they're down to get their history on.
John M.C.
Very well kept and such an interesting place to go to. Parking is very limited so if you're going in heavy tourist times, you might want to plan ahead. They also have an awesome vista to look at. You can see Portland even when it's foggy.
Going up the parking is kind of a pain since it's a very tight road, but it's worth it.
Abhishek kumar
Mansion of one of the earliest settlers in Portland which is now converted to a tourist place. Many intricate details have been preserved and you get a good idea of lifestyle of Pittock family while they lived here long back.
David McIntosh
Nice views. $14.50 to see inside. Something about a white guys wealth on display doesn’t seem right in portland
Kevin Deffinbaugh
This piece of history was definitely worth the visit. The volunteers did an incredible job decorations the place for Christmas!
Vivian Colbert
Beautiful mansion on a hill. Our first stop in Portland. Mt Hood in the background . Lovely gardens. Learned how blacks were Discriminated against in the state of Oregon in the museum in the basement. Very powerful.
Clark Johnson
Great view of Portland skyline. Flowering trees. Perfect example of old Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
Looks like a Haunted Mansion
Sarah Rodriguez
Great history lies here. The tours are great to hop on and the house has lovely architecture. Sign the guest book!
Sarah Almazan
Gorgeous view! Beautiful gardens and walking area. A must see if visiting Portland
Team Cheeseburger
What a hidden gem in a secluded part of Portland. The mansion has such a great history and they do a good job preserving it so all can enjoy it. Great views of the city.
Keren Santana
The Mansion Garden is beautiful, great to take pictures. The museum is very beautiful and wonderful history.
Stephen J. Allen
Fun little hour of architecture and history, great views out every window, and a clear self-guided tour. People move very slowly, so one might get annoyed at the progress through the rooms.
Craig Swanson
Beautiful Museum I took a group here today for a tour. Enjoy some pictures I took stay blessed.
Chrys McK-C
Nice stroll through the house at our own leisure. Very informative. Loved the grounds - and the view from the grounds.
Beeta Z
Unfortunately I went during a time that the smoke over the city was bad, but this place is great for a quick visit to the mansion, learn some history, then go on a hike! Had a great time here.
Jason Russell (JayRuss)
Omg this place has the best views in the city. The people let you walk around on your own and explore the mansion. The cost is 13 per person which goes to their foundation. You will not be disappointed in the experience. Parking is free and their are nature trials along the edge of the hosue. During Christmas each room is decorated in a festive theme.
Robert Kent DesRochers
Loved the history, beautiful landscaping and spectacular view from the gardens. Highly recommend.
Eric Reese
A really nice step back into the past. Lots to see and read at every turn. Lots of tiny details to attract your attention. A beautiful place to visit and spend a few hours. Sad that you have to request a special tour of the 3rd floor and basement. You can even visit the house the chauffeur lived in. Breath taking views. One thing I didn't like was the donation boxes. You already pay to get in why put out boxes asking for more money.
Sandra Kay
The hike and view always bring me back to Pittock mansion, buy you can also drive and park for free to get the view too. Show up in the morning for a lesser crowd and wait for your perfect shot.
E.H.P. Amber Kurt
My second time visiting. It is so lovely I recommend it.. but sadly this time I was with a client that has a service K9 and we where not properly treated the staff was not properly trained on this matter. I hope they improve..
elizabeth rivera
I'm from out of town, specifically Riverside CA. I found the mansion by picking up the Oregon guide at the hotel I was staying at. the mansion was about 20 min away and it has a beautiful scenic route to it. the roads are lined by beautiful green trees. once you arrive to the mansion you will park in what use to be the mansions tennis court. Fees to get it are i believe $11 adults and $10 for children. If I'm mistaken please correct me. Arriving at the mansion yo will be greeted by the Pittock mansion historian. It'S a self guided tour but he's there in case you have any questions. The mansion consist of the 1st floor, 2nd floor and the basement. Each floor has specific rooms with a description of each room at the entrance. Touring the mansion will take about three hours of your time. after touring the inside of the mansion you can tour the outside gardens and a separate living quarters used for staff. Overall the mansion and the abundance of history and information given on one of Portland, OR first family is a must see for any history buff.
Erik Fehrenbach
Pittock Mansion is one of the best tourist and local sites in Portland. The mansion and grounds are charming to walk around. The mansion has great history behind it and has been used in some famous movies. Located right along popular hiking trails it’s a great place to go for a short wander. Oh... and the view. Arguably the best view of the city!
Turbo Turtle
A lovely historic mansion open to the public with the family history of one of the founding families of Portland. Sadly the family had a relatively happy life so there is no haunting or murder history. Still quite lovely.
jason clark
moderately fascinating nook of local history. grounds are exceptionally well preserved and the view from the southwest terrace is amazing. it was more rewarding to hike up the hill than use the paved drive but this approach won't appeal to everyone. it was exciting to imagine life back in that era, before urban development...uh, and AC.
Douglas Edgar
The Pittock Mansion is a Beautiful place set high above Portland in the Hills... The Home is Beautiful, the landscaping is to die for and the View wins the Whole show with all of Portland between You & MT. Hood.
John Osgood
Great visit. Love the beautiful old mansion, the views and the gorgeous gardens.
TIEN NGUYEN CAU
Pittock Mansion is at 3229 NW Pittock Dr, Portland, OR 97210, USA
Alan Orth
Amazing old house that mixes Victorian and Oriental style. Must see if you are visiting Portland. You can apparently see five mountains from this house if the visibility is good! The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and have been giving tours here for decades (!).
Grayson Nichols
Visited to Pittock Mansion while on a trip to Portland. Was able to walk to the mansion from downtown but was up for the very long walk up the steep neighborhood hills to get there. Very beautiful homes all the way up. The mansion had incredible views of downtown and Mount Hood. Cool history story as well. Not a must see, but if you're trying to kill some time, it's worth it.
Jon Stone
Very interesting museum of the Pittock family home just outside downtown. Tickets are 11 bucks for adults and its totally worth it to step back in time and see how this family lived...especially to see (then) top of the line tech throughout the, house...like the shower system etc
AnneMarie Davis
Very beautiful, I did not go into the house and receive the tour though. The are pathways lined with a large variety of plants and flowers, as well as a lovely view of Portland
Shawn H (MadManMurtaugh)
Very interesting place to explore with a lot of history about Portland. Also offers a breathtaking view of the city
Justin Newell
Quick stop on a day it was closed.
Gorgeous views of the city. The mansion is amazing.
Definitely would like to return when I have more time to explore the home and the trails.
Celina Kingery
Take your time here there is a lot to see!
Carlos V.
Interesting place with much history.
Joshua
Gorgeous views of Portland. The tour was exquisitely interesting, you learn a lot about the family that lived there and the lifestyle they had as a wealthy family in the founding days of the city. The prestige of that time is unprecedented. The decor, the architecture and grandeur is seemingly quite rare at this type of scale, I loved it. The grounds are also neatly kept with flowers and greenery with a bench overlooking the skyline.
On a sunny day the valley extends out to hills and the famous Mt. Hood. I recommend to go in Spring or Fall when you get colors abound wether be autumn leaves or delicate flowers, it’s definitely eye candy.
The picture I attached was in Summer, and the sky had trace amounts of haze and clouds, however the sight was extremely beautiful anyway. Take the road up here and you’ll never be disappointed.
Aka Koenig
The best view of Portland! Hands down, you will not find a more amazing view and history of the city!
Karen Richards
I enjoyed it however they had way to many Christmas decorations up! You couldn't see the antiques.
Alexis Cosgrove
The Pittock Mansion is stunning inside. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is unparalleled. I learned a good deal of Portland's history and saw some amazing views. The only critique I have is that it closes so early (4pm on the day I went).
Definitely worth checking out.
Arab GentleMan
We didnt make it inside because they had just closed, but the views were spectacular. Would highly recommend anyone in the area stop and make sure you enjoy all the breathtaking views.
Bhanik Shah
Beautiful mansion of the first resident of PDX. The views from the back of the mansion are amazing and offers paid tours to visit the inside
Maia
The place was interesting. Although it was hard to appreciate the building due to the excessive Christmas decorations this time of year
Jennifer Piña
Oh this place! The details of high society are gems all over this property. There has been such immense care given to the grounds. Thank you Portland Parks and Recreation and Pittock Mansion Society. Parking is easy and plentiful $8.00.
The house alone is grand surrounded by intricate details and architecture. Next time, a visit inside.
Amanda “Demisendra7” Phoenix
Took a mile+ hike up here. This was an excellent place to visit. Even the old groundskeeper's home is beautiful. Definitely need to go here if visiting the Portland area.

I would recommend this place. Inside the mansion was pretty kool. The scenery outside the mansion is beautiful. Especially when the weather is nice.

Unfortunately sold out when I arrive, even just driving up and walking around, the grounds are beautiful, great view of the city and a trail into Forest Park immediately available

My wife and I visited after hours so we didn't get an opportunity to see inside the museum but the compound is gorgeous and the view of Portland is breathtaking. Well worth a visit.

Nice place with a nice view of Portland city. But in my opinion, going inside the house was not worth it.

Fun little stop in Portland! Beautifully curated mansion and grounds
Dan M
Fantastic view of downtown Portland and Mt Hood. Great for kids to run around on the lawn. Mansion is interesting, the view is worth the trip. Go on a clear day.
Justin Smith
Great spot if you like history or design. Great views. Only 10$ transit isn't the best there. But it's about a 9$ uber ride each way
Sara M
Beautiful historical spot. Took the tour of the house, so much history. Even if you don't want to go through the house the grounds are very nice to walk through with a great viewpoint of the city.

On a good weather day there is a really nice view of downtown Portland, as well as Mount Hood, Mount Saint Hellen and even Mount Adams. Great place to take some nice pictures during spring also.

Must see....be a tourist in your own city! Great views of the city....history and architecture ....a trip back in time. This mansion was modern and stylish. All the fixtures and furniture are very cool. Check it out!

Love old homes and museums, so this was right up my alley. Especially since it is well preserved as original and not overtaken by just trying to get money from visitors. I've been here before and will likely see again inn the future!

Walk up from wildwood trail. Really like the story when Portland starts.

Gorgeous place! Make sure to pay for more than two hours parking if you want to see both the mansion AND the grounds. The staff were totally cool with me walking in with my three alternative-looking weirdo teenagers, so that guy who felt like he was being treated poorly because of his clothes was probably just having a bad day.
If you’re a sensitive, (you know what I mean) protect and ground yourself. Everything was fine until I got to the Lady of the house’s bedroom. Then I started experiencing some of the most excruciating back pain which didn’t leave me until we got out of the house. We stepped into the gift shop, in a different building, and my back pain left me as quickly as it began.
I don’t think there’s anything evil or unkind about the house, just some residual from the poor Mrs. having an illness at the end of her life. The children's room, with the puppet show setup was really sweet and left my heart feeling happy. Totally worth it!

I’m a senior portrait photographer and had so much fun shooting here! It’s so grand and beautiful which adds a ton of drama to the photo. Love this spot!

Iconic view of Portland and Mt. Hood... but wait for a clear day for a great view of the mountain!

Great view of the Portland skyline. I bring all my tourist visitors here 🙂 ... We haven't made it into the mansion yet. …

Beautifully restored mansion and piece of history. The self guided tour was laid out very well. One exhibit leads Into the next. Gorgeous view of Portland and beautiful grounds as well.

Best view of the city. Download the parking kitty because parking ain't free, but the app is super easy and I think I paid a dollar for 15 minutes. Bathrooms are clean too! Overlook is accessible even when the Mansion is closed. It would be cool to visit at night.

Great place to spend a few hours. The grounds are well maintained and it has one of the best views of Portland and Mount Hood. The mansion is also well maintained and amazing to see given its history. Parking was convenient.
Tara Wilson
This place was really cool and well layed out. I liked how some of the information was about the house, but some of it was about how you create this type of museum.
Just be aware that the windows are all cracked, so it can be pretty cold inside depending on the weather outside.
Elisabeth Martin
Awesome views of basically all of West Portland and parts of East Portland, maybe even best views in the city. 2.8 mile hike one way from the Japanese Garden parking lot. Mansion is cool to take a picture at, though no tours right now. Lots of plants surrounding the city-owned building.
Jayson Garcia
Enjoyed the self-tour of the mansion. Would be nice to have/taken a guided view.
Melissa Jones
I go to this place often for the view but I've never once been inside the Mansion. Every year I want to change that but I just keep going for the city view but sometimes the fog obscures a lot of the view.
Clare Lin
It's a great location to see the view of city.
I had a wonderful time there.
Annie J
Beautiful view and it's nice to hang around after a small hike at the Wildwood trail.

Make sure you have enough time to see everything. Great place with AMAZING views!
Karen Wlodarski
Great views and very informative of life back then. Inside the house is amazing!!!
Martha Pike
The place is very geourgeos! The views are fantastic! Worth the time to go visit.
Terence Lee
A lot of little hikes around the mansion and also a great view of the city and Mount Hood from the the top. We didn't get a chance to go inside the mansion because it didn't open until noon but it was still nice to walk around.
Cameron Birrell
The mansion is a really cool place to visit. It has very cutting edge technology and style for its time period. Some rooms have a couple pieces of original furniture but others are period or antique rooms. The views of Portland from the house and backyard are awe inspiring.

Best views of Portland that I've seen so far in all my exploring. Challenging hike if you use the trails to get up there, about 11,000 steps according to my fitbit.
I walked thru house but would have got more out of it if I did the tour, which is included in the price of admission ($11)
Victoria H
Always breathtaking views! It's so beautiful and totally worth going up even if you don't tour the mansion. Hiking up is worth it too!
Fisheye Digital
Beautiful landscapes for hiking and flower enthusiasts as well as the best view of the city skyline with mountains
Joyfoodlv
Such a great spot to see the whole view of downtown portland
Spencer Hundreds
It’s not close to public transit and you’re better off wandering around on your own than with a tour company. Admission is more than fair to be able to experience such a beautiful and historic landmark. It’s perfect for a picnic lunch so pack your own (weather permitting). I would definitely visit again!

this place is magic ! very nice to walk in this house ! And even outside is beautiful !

An awesome end of a very nice trekking trail!!
Also accessible by road and one can drive there.
A paid tour to the mansion is worth to see the richness of the era we can only think of!!
The serene city view from the top is an added advantage and best if you go when the sun is about to set. #Portland #thingstodo #placestovisit #mansions #history

Very beautiful historical site! It's a must visit place in Portland!
James Watts
Best view and a museum that you have to go through. Fine detailed and an abundant amount of information about Portland’s history.
MissCookie Cairo
Great place to visit....wonderful views of the city and the gorgeous mountains in the distance.....the mansion makes you want to own it....the view from inside is to die for.....after your tour I encourage you to walk down through the homes and the windy streets towards the city....I did and after I looked at the beautiful homes while having a nice conversation with a friend, ended up in Nob Hill.....at Blue Moon, playing shuffle board......an awesome day
Nhan Van
Very nice view of Portland to have when you need a moment for yourself. It links from the hiking trail near there so it’s a good spot to end the trail.
Dalton Webb
This iconic mansion has the best views a short way from Portland. After checking out the mansion you can follow the trails around it.
JOSEPH MAJEWSKI (Juice)
This place is pretty cool if you're into old houses in historic Things to do
C Lieb
Try to get there very early in the morning before the flocks of tourists. Even better experience.
Lori Meyer
Portland is a very interesting city with lots of history and wonderful parks. This site has both. I would definitely recommend as a must see for the area.
Nicole V
Cool, self-guided tour. The staff was very helpful! Make sure to check out the view of the city behind the house!
