Reviews of Meteor Crater Visitor Center
Selena Quintanilla
Second time visiting and I still loved it so much. The tour guide was AMAZING and the staff was so kind. The tour guide was so patient and answered everyone’s questions. I’m so impressed with how much information they know as well. This place can get busy! I highly recommend buying tickets online. The museum has a 4D experience, the exhibit, a theatre, and the tours run every hour or so. You also have the option to view the crater from
Different points of view which is super neat. This place is so worth it! The gift shop is also amazing.
Rachel Bulisky
Seeing the giant Meteor Crater was a profound experience. Heading the significance of this location was especially interesting as well. I like the early/late hours they are open, 7am to 7 pm 7 days a week, which is later than some of the national parks. I do think the $25 cover charge is a bit much though, considering some of the exhibits were closed and the guided tour is not always available due to it being in a high wind area. However, the tour guide offered to tell us all the information from the tour in the lobby, which was appreciated. Post cards were $1 each, would be nice if they just gave you one when you bought your ticket. Free advertising!

It's HUGE! A lot to learn there, too. Reminds us how small we all are!
Lots of climbing to do, but there's plenty to see without climbing as well. Museum is great too (see my pics).
The only negative is you have to take a tour to see the Crater.
Will definitely go back!
Kate Barnes
This place was a good mid-trip, stretch your legs kinda stop. The museum was good, the 4D theater was fun and they have a nice gift shop. As for the crater, it's big but kinda boring, in my opinion. You take the little 30-45 minute tour and walk along the rim a bit. The tour guides try to "spruce it up" with some comedic banter, but it can only do so much. If you have a space nerd kid, they'll probably think it's pretty fun!

We are glad we stopped by to see the view! This was a great visit. We had an amazing tour and learned a ton! My wild ones earned the badges and had fun on the flight stimulator. There’s a lot to do here and the staff is very nice. We were hoping to eat here but the cafe didn’t really have much and was super expensive. Bring your own food and enjoy this beautiful place!
Traci Coker (MurphyMe)
One of the coolest places to experience. The base of this crater is so massive it could house 20 football fields and 2 million spectators. Yet standing on the observation deck looking over it — it's still hard to comprehend. Great place to take anyone obsessed with NASA or geography. The skyline and view are spectacular.
Tillie Aker
Order your tickets online and save $2! Seniors are $22 but well worth the experience! Plan at least 2 hours. Museum is packed with great information! Movie and ride is a must! Shopping has so much too choose from for all ages! Want to buy a real rock from the moon!
Patricia Vasko
Full disclosure - Winds were 40-50mph when we drove past and decided to visit. It was $25pp for seniors unless you buy your ticket online. Then it was $18pp. The included tour was canceled due to the wind speeds. Self guided wasn't adequate - I like to know what I'm looking at, and the story behind it! Hubby got some good pictures of it with his cell phone, and we went on the free simulator ride at the entrance. Meet some nice people who were also trying to keep their hats on. Liked the fact that the telescopes were FIXED on the important things that the info boards were describing. You didn't have to search around on your own. There's also a short movie that tells you a short story. Worth watching.
Anna West
Great place to visit while you are in Flagstaff or passing through. We saw pronghorn on our way to the visitor center. I found that the visitor center exhibits did not do a good job explaining what happened to a meteorite. It was funny, because neither the silly rabbit movie nor the main movie explains it. Instead, the main movie just days: the dug 200 feet in and of course it was not there. Well, can you please offer an explanation as to what happened to it, how many pieces it broke into, how far the pieces flew, how they were found? No explanation is offered. I didn’t find any of the exhibits to be very educational. Rating the visitor center a 3. The crater itself a 5.
Reyan Patel
Entry fees is $60 per person and they close at 5pm. You must plan a visit of minimum 1.5 hrs. They have a good educational exhibition as well as a movie you can watch about the Meteor Crater. Its a good learning experience for all age.
C.J. H
Come on... it's a meteor crater! How could that NOT be cool. It was actually a lot more of a built up facility than I had ever expected. It had an air-conditioned theater that gave a great presentation on the crater. It had great viewing stations with telescopes set up throughout the viewing area. The entire area was a lot more than I expected.
Chris Compton
This place was more than I expected! The interactive museum was really cool and I learned so much about the history of this crater! I had no clue that NASA trains here every year nor did I know that this area was under water 50,000 years ago when the meteor impacted. I also had no clue about the attempts to recover the meteor with mine shafts, the plane crash or all the other things! Really cool and definitely worth the tour!
Yardarm Ramon
We visited the visitors center again. This time we heard they renovated the Cafe. It looked really cool . It has a western nostalgic look. I'm dumb for not taking any photos but it almost looks like a saloon. Plenty of space to enjoy your coffee and treats. Oh, the crater is still there. Staff were friendly and plenty of parking spots, even for RVs.
Dave Hogan
Totally worth visiting if you think that giant rocks from space slamming into the earth are something interesting. There's a great museum area that explains what happened, as well as the history of other meteors and the difference between them and meteorites. A great use of an hour or two to see something that's very unique.
Angie Davis
knowledgeable staff. The ticket person was a little rude. Apparently military spouse does not matter for discount. Only the person that serves. Other than her the rest of the staff was very friendly. Worth the stop. Intresting. Great gift shop. We spent around 2 hours here. You can spend more if you do the guided tour. Or 10 min if you wanna skip all there is. Glad we stopped. Driven by many times. There is also semi truck and rv parking. A place for your dogs to potty too.
Brad Young
Worth getting off I-40 and spending the time here. Good displays explaining the origin of the crater and courteous personal with the exception of one lady who apparently was supposed to take the last group tour at 4:10. She did her best to "discourage" anyone from going. She did a good enough job that everyone chose to go on their own. The crater is huge! It's a mile across and it's difficult to wrap your brain around the scale of this thing until you look through a telescope focused on a tiny figure in the bottom of the crater and realize that it is a full size astronaut replica!
Elizabeth Clark
The Meteor Crater was on my husband’s bucket list; something he has always wanted to see. To me, it was a hole in the ground; however, I did enjoy visiting the crater because of the interesting scientific and educational information that “pulled” me in. The staff was very nice and polite. As you enter, you have the option for stairs or elevator - so, more wheelchair/disabled access than you would find at some attractions such as this. There is a test capsule set up with an astronaut for photos, which was fun to see up close. There is a display case with historical photos and NASA memorabilia and a separate educational museum before you get out to the crater (if you choose to go through it). There is also a walking tour that takes about 1 1/2 hours to walk, which is included in the admission price. It is not wheelchair/disabled/handicapped accessible.
The walk out to the observation deck is accessible to most anyone and it has seating. The peak area and lower deck (with fixed telescopes) aren’t as accessible because the only option is stairs to those areas.
There is a gift shop with many really cool, interesting items. Crystals, rocks, etc., are much cheaper there than other touristy places we went to in AZ.
There was a discount for buying tickets online but if you are a senior and a veteran, it is much better to buy in person. The combo was only $13 for our friend paying in person.
Kimberly Hackman
I'm not a fan of this bit my husband loves it. I enjoyed this visit though, the tour around the rim is a must! Your entry fee covers all attractions. They have senior and military discounts
kelly kobs
Lots to see. Well worth the time nice ac building with all thing pertaining to the crater. Out side large viewing areas concrete walks with stairs self tour or take a guided tour. The best i have seen yet.
Kristin Collins-Jimenez
Awesome place to visit. Expect to stay there for about 1.5-2 hrs. to get the full experience. We went with 3 children a 12 yr old (boy) and 9 yr old twins (girls). The exhibit was clean, organized and magnificent to see.
Sanjay Bishnoi
2.5 hrs drive from Phoenix, worth a visit if you're there for a day or two and learn a thing or two about this age old landmark!
We visited during Dec/Jan
It's less crowded but on the Negative side, there are no tour guides during winter which is why I gave 4 stars
Joaquin Lorie
The Meteor crater in Arizona, about 2.5 hour drive from Phoenix. What a sight to behold. It was one of the 7 wonders of the world in 2020. This trip was planned already on the road, right on the go, it didn't let us down.
Upon arriving, we could see the edges of the crater from the parking lot, that got me pumped up. Parking is spacious, I'm not expecting too many people at a time at this landmark. Entrance is 24 dollars, which is great in my opinion if you like to see something so special and historic.
What to do here? There's a gift shop, 10min meteor movie at a mini-theater, a museum, a simulation ride and the crater itself. They're also renovating a café.
The guided tour lasts about 1 hour, which is worth it since you go around the rim of the crater and learn many things. Zach is an amazing tour guide there, tell him he was recommended.
If you like NASA, space exploration, natural landmarks and good pictures, please visit the meteor crater. You wont regret it. Visiting also contributes to the preservation of the natural landmark.
I'm not mentioning facts and tour information about the place, won't ruin the fun! Discover it for yourself!
Maranda Asche
Super cool! My husband wanted to check this place out and i wasn't that excited about it... But it turned out to be much more interesting than i expected! He went on the tour. He said he learned some interesting facts, but otherwise wouldn't do it again. You can see the same views/ better views out the other door (self guided).
Seth Lindsey
After seeing pictures for years, finally followed the signs and made a stop while out on a road trip. They have a military discount! Unfortunately, the day we were there was chilly and WINDY, so none of the guided walks were available. The video was a nice touch, and some of the telescopes are fixed to show specific things of interest. Definitely worth a stop if out on I-40.
Mariah Whiteman
Super fun. The film was interesting, the museum was detailed, and the family near by is said the 4D collision experience was phenomenal.
The Crater of course is awesome to behold
Amanda Rice
This was a cool spot to see on our way from Sedona to Amarillo, TX as it broke up our 5 hour trip into 2.5 segments after the stop. It was absolutely incredible to see and no one picture did it justice. They did a very nice job with the facility and my family and I learned a lot of interesting things about meteorites. We even got to touch one! After touring the spot, they had a nice gift shop where we tired the freeze dried ice cream. Highly recommend if you are in the area and you are into rocks!
Heather Lewis
What an amazing experience! This is a msu see when in the area. So educational. We did learn also that because of the spread of meteor "shards" after impact a 40 mile radius of the area can attract lightning during storms! And we rode in on motorcycles during a downpour.
David Wilson
There was an experience that I have never witnessed before. I was amazed on how big that crater was. And the people there they were very helpful and friendly and very knowledgeable and help me with a few meteorites from that location. I would have to say that has to be on everybody's bucket list they go visit this place at least once in your life.
Summer Terry
Awesome place that was worth the stop! The museum is really well put together and seeing the Crater in person really put into perspective just how big it is! Excellent documentation! Make sure to visit the films and tour that are included in the admission price. We stayed at the RV park and you get a $5 off coupon for the museum. There's also a discount for buying tickets online.
Daniel J
Cool experience to see a huge natural crater here in the US. Great displays, history and museum. Cool trail to walk to one of three observational points. A bit pricey for a short experience but worth it to see this once.
Lonnie Cross
This place was great. Especially if you’re interested in science and space. It would be cool to go to the bottom but I understand why we can’t.
Josh Alexander
Incredible view! You don't understand the vastness of this impact crater until you are actually on the rim! Next to the Grand Canyon, I'd say this is the second site you must visit & see with your own eyes in the Arizona!
William Dodson
skip the into video. no info. see the inside exhibit. take the kids to the kids show. go on guided tour if you're not old or handicapped. good elevators for the needy. the crater is a magnificent from the shop.
Bob Schuster
I'm a science, space nut... My wife, not at all... BUT both of us thoroughly enjoyed this place!!
At first, we balked at the admission prices (even the discounted Senior rate), but glad we did!
You can watch a short video about the crater, then decide if you want to do the 1.5 hour guided walking tour, or explore on your own from several viewing points outside of the visitor center.
We opted for self guided, as once you walked out the door for the guided tour, you were committed to the 1 mile total distance hike...no turning back.
The views are simply spectacular, and the story about the crater was fantastic!
Let's just hope a big meteor like this one (150' in diameter) doesn't hit us any time soon.!
Let em know, "the guy from YouTube channel Whats Up Bob" sent ya!!
John Slavik
The guide was hilarious. The tour was very educational. Amazing to discover that while the giant hole in the ground is federally protected the entire area is ALL privately owned.
Paige Watkins
Wonderful natural beauty/amazing artifact of earth's history. Privately owned property.
Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable.
If you like space and similar stuff this a place for you and your family.
Celina Patterson
Nice! They have tours every hour starting at 8:10 until 4:10. They have a short movie you can watch and a "ride" more aimed towards children that's 13 mins long. Didn't get to the gift shop but they have pieces of the meteor for sale. Family run and owned it's a great place to visit for anyone and great friendly knowledgeable staff!
Stefanie DiDominzio
Beautifully well preserved site. The history and science is neat. It is a unique stop. The road leading into the park is free range cow farm land, so watch out for cows hanging out in the roadway. Earlier in the morning means no lines. Though it was never very "busy" while we were there.
The only negative I have for "crowds" is that the tour guides don't make late arrivals stay to watch the video. There are limited seats in the pre tour video room and our room was full, maybe 2-3 seats left. After we exited to begin the tour... 3 large families walked up and joined the tour group. Once outside thr guide even said several times "wow this is a really large group somehow." As a photographer, this made it nearly impossible to get some nice photos along the way.
The "rim tour" is actually tiny. Must shorter then expected. I get that they are preserving the site, but I wish there was more distance to cover.
Bathrooms were clean. Staff was super friendly.
Great place. The biggest reason for loosing a star is the issue with tour group sizes.
Justin
It's an amazingly in depth opportunity to learn detailed information of one of the world's most well preserved meteor strikes in the world, we arrived about 12pm and we ordered our tickets online that day.
Extremely fast process upon entry and a good hours worth of just browsing and reading if you're interested. The gift shop is large and contains lots of random but interesting items (see photos).
Taylor Holt
Great place to visit. All of the staff members were helpful and informative. Very friendly and cheerful. Well run. Would definitely recommend.
Kristina Lyons
Very personal and great experience!😃 Passed this too many times! If you haven't stopped by take the time and see what you're missing. Glad we FINALLY took the kids!
Joan Weigelt
Glad I stopped in to check out this amazing site! Full view of the crater and joined a tour with the history behind it. Driving up you can see the mountainous debris created when the meteor imploded.
Chris Davies
Enjoyed seeing the resulting crater from a meteor impact 50,000 years ago. Quite a hole. This commercial site is quite well done but not cheap - our senior price was $24 pp. - $27 pp if not a senior.
Rene Aguilera
Had always wanted to visit, finally fulfilled my wish. It was worth it! Approaching the Crater by car, you suddenly realize that you are looking at the rim. The immensity of the impact crater begins to dawn on you. Having purchased our tickets online got us in ahead of the people wait in the ticket line. We took the time to take an "adventure ride", in the form of a movie, with special seats that made it feel like you were flying in space. We also watched the short film on how the crater was formed. We elected to not take the guided tour. It was very windy along the crater rim. Fantastic viewing spots to enjoy the view and snap some pictures. If you want a very unique experience, put a visit to Meteor Crater on your to-do list. You won't regret it.
Eric Lowe
The place itself is awesome, to see the effect of a meteor crashing to earth and the fight they had to prove it was a meteor and not volcanic. However, for me, you do the guided walk, they tell you, you do the movie, it's the same thing, you walk round the museum it's the same, how many ways do they have to try and tell you? It's the same information it depends how you want to learn. The crater is the star.
Tal'Ki
Such an incredible experience. Like being A part of something sci-fi, but truly historical. If you love space and ask its wonder, just Go!
Peter Cowling
When l was planning my route 66 trip recently this one place that l wanted to visited. The crater was very impressive, however the price of entree was very expensive! The entrance fee was 25 dollars per adult.
Don Myers
Excellent views. Nice 4d ride, museum and short movie about the crater. Worth the visit. See the best accessible crater on earth.
Have Jeep Will Travel
Loved the wide open beautiful layout, the interactive exhibits, the stories behind the history, and especially the staff! The staff were helpful, friendly and always available!!
S Johnson
A must see if you are in the area of Holbrook and Winslow, AZ. The view was awesome. All the history and information was available as you walked thru the museum. We also enjoyed the 10 minute video as well. Military cost $15, Seniors cost $20.
Egor Alexandrovich
Really cool to see first hand. Very impressive. Entrance is $25. Has a fun museum. Ideal place to take your kids.
Steve Ginsburg
Well worth the 6 mile detour off I-40.Pretty much self guided, but ther is a short film and a short talk given by staff members. There is some climbing involved but we'll worth the effort.
Jerry Ilchena
It's amazing what nature has preserved estimated to be 50000 years ago. You will learn about meteors, asteroids and the devastating affects of one hitting earth. Great way to learn.
Alex McCormick
I came here as a kid and I got to take my son to see it too,I’m glad to see everything was well kept and preserved.the prices weren’t too bad either and I highly recommend coming to see the crater
James Maxson
If you're into space, science, history or just want to go stand I'm awe of the giant hole made by a space rock slamming into the earth, this little trip off of the interstate is well worth your time. I drove by it for more than two decades for work and finally got an opportunity to stop in and check it off the bucket list. There is a lot of educational information via film aand exhibits before you walk out to the crater itself. My girls couldn't come in, but enjoyed playing in the snow out in the oversized vehicle lot.
Jenna Nelson
Very neat place! The size of the crater is amazing! The visitor center has so much information not only on the meteorite, but space and other planets as well. Definitely must see
Pettie Penn
5/5/22 Thu: Not a National State Park (NP) since it's privately owned. Recommend buying tickets online before your visit for a lil discount. A must see & do for a very educational experience!
Melvin Cripps
A must see on the way across I40. Not too far off the interstate. It's a big hole in the ground caused by a big rock falling from the sky. Lots of sciencey stuff to see and learn. Bring your kids. This will enlighten their minds and maybe get them interested in science and space travel.
Brandon Keith
It was a better experience than I was expecting, I enjoyed it very much. The guide Brandon knowledgeable of the meteor site and he keep it interesting.
Kimberly Schueler
Movies are great. We saw the dinosaur and penguin movies.
The displays are very educational.
Michael Wilson
You'll be in awe of the sheer magnitude of power it took two excavate this crater. The museum is also excellent. I highly recommend you take some time to peruse the museum before seeing the crater. It will help put in perspective what exactly you're looking at
Matt H
Fun side trip if you have the time. You DO have to pay just to see the crater but there's a lot of other interesting exhibits and fun stuff for kids.
Amber
Worth the visit if you’re driving by. Active duty military get in for free. Pets not allowed at the crater nor the museum, but there is an outdoor holding area for them. Wish it was inside though.
Barbara Frey
Fun interesting place gives a lot of information about meteors and the geologic make up of the area. Good for kids too. The entrance fee is reasonable and includes the tour, movie and 3D ride. Worth it to see.
Alex MAC
If Geology is your thing ! The Barringer crater is a must .
Take the rim tour the guides are very informative. They tell you so much more than the film shown in the theatre.
Glamper Jan
Was a great science exhibit and great movie A little pricey ayv$22 a ticket but you got a guided tour around the crater.
Miguel Martinez
Wow wow, huge hole in the ground, lots to see and staff very knowledgeable and friendly, great gift shop.and cool place to visit the little alien's name was Paul. He made a movie a few years ago
With the same name. I got his autograph, but whispered in my ear and told me humans are so demanding and boring
. Oh well.
Levi Michalski
Really cool sight to see, but they make it WAY too touristy. The "4D movie" is boring and uninspiring, but there's some pretty decent information scattered about the facility. I tripped, fell, and really hurt my hands on the stairs while walking up to the viewpoints to see the crater. That being said, seriously watch your step as the stairs are irregular in shape.
Kat Gibson
The crater is fantastic and I highly recommend going on the guided tour if you're able. The museum aspect is very informative and well put together.
Johnny Bemus
Fun stop on our road trip. Great stop for kids and it's definately more impressive in person than in pictures. The tour was very informative and the facility is nice.
Dave Harris
I didn't know what to expect when we visited the Meteor Crater.
I had seen it mentioned in documentaries and, as we were going down the highway we spotted it and thought, "What the heck, let's check it out!"
What a great decision! My wife and I had a great time exploring the crater and the visitors center! The visitor center includes a 4D theater as well as a conventional theater. They also have many displays and you can actually touch a large chunk of the meteorite that created the crater!
We had so much fun and I don't think you will be disappointed!
I'm sure the prices can change but, normal entry fee for an adult is $22.
Be advised, if you were military, they have a great discount!
Howard Craig
If you love science and history, this is a great destination! It's so much more than a hole in the ground in the middle of nowhere. Great for kids and adults. You can come for an hour or stay for five and get your money's worth either way.
Jennifer Corson
Very interesting side stop on our vacation. It was fun to see and they have a short film with moving seats that was fun. Definitely worth stopping for if you're in the area.
Jon Bicho
A good museum. A very graphic example of a large iron based object that was projected to be 150 yards across slamming into the earth at 26,000 MPH. This time of year is ideal to visit. Not too hot. There are a guided tours and a learning center here.
G K
A little spendy to get in but we got our 60 dollars worth. Saw the movie, went to all the viewing platforms, survived the wind. Very windy when we went.
Emily B
On our cross country trip, had to see what the Meteor Crater was all about. Buying tickets online saves you a few bucks off the $25 per person at the gate. The crater is pretty awesome. They also have a movie you can see about the creation of this 50,000 year old creator. Worth the 6 miles off the highway. The money they collect helps with preservation. When you get there, use the sidewalk telescope to see the giant surprise at the bottom. With the naked eye, it's remarkably small.
Dana Giltner
Fantastic place to visit. Very interesting and educational. Loved the history of the crater, including the info on NASA astronauts training in the crater. Guided tour was absolutely fantastic - highly recommend it! We were able to do the tour, watch the short movie, and see everything in the museum in about two hours.
CJ Acres
Nice place to see an actual crater. Could have been discounted for tours w/o a guide.
Dev Sodagar
This place really is incredible. The crater itself is awe inspiring. The visitor center and everything is really well laid out and the museum has some excellent information as well.
Norman Moon
Wanted to come here for years, amazing seeing the effects of a meteorite first hand. Awesome staff and well run establishment, gift shop is neat.
Sean Mitchell
Cool attraction if you're staying in Flagstaff! Worth the drive and admission, with discounts for veterans and online purchase ahead of time. Recommend the walking tour which takes about a half hour - bring a hat, sunscreen, and sneakers!
James Hefley
Veterans get a discount. No way to buy a veterans ticket online. Seniors over 60 also get a discount. Not quite enough of information in the 10 minute video that was presented. Should ne redone to 20 minutes.
Q Orr
Very nice. Definitely need to at least visit to say you saw a real crater.
MsDeltaPunk
This stop is close off the interstate and such a cool stop! I love that it’s not government ran and goes toward education and research so we had no problem paying $22 for 2 people. It was super cool to check out the crater and see the exhibits surrounding it. Definitely worth the stop.
Sharon Landis
If your driving by this is a place to stop. Has gift shop where we brought meteorites & souvenirs They have bathrooms and. A restaurant it costed $22. A person. Kids are 13 and under. Well you are there you got to try their space ride. :) that was really fun. :)
Nick Moretina
Nice museum and informational video. It was good to finally see this huge hole in the world. Crater is much larger than it appears in photos.
Henry “John” Williams
Not all areas are handicapped accessible but overall a very enjoyable experience. The 4d movie experience was fun and entertaining. Pretty decent gift shop. Most interesting was finding out the crater was used for astronaut moon landing training in the 1960's.
Terri Hammond Ballard
Fantastic experience. Everything was organized, relaxing, clean, informative and interesting. The gift shop is great and the prices amazing. You have a friendly and helpful staff. A place to have a light lunch would make it heavenly.
Sri B.
Simply, Love it.
Learned many things on the guided tour. Don't miss it.
Walked over to the Vista points to take in the grandeur views of the crater and beautiful desert around it.
Nice little museum gives you the history behind the place and the people and their suffering thru good and hard times.
Glad it's all worked out for the Barringer's family at the end.
Take the final tour of the day to witness the crater in the awesome desert sunset views to satisfy your inner self.
Joshua Datig
A little pricey at $22 per person but worth it in my opinion. Cool museum, informative movies and videos, a good sized gift shop, and a really big hole in the middle of nowhere caused by a space rock. Worth the time and money.
Richard Nash
Great view. Super info. Great history lesson. Glad we went there.
Pamela Stivers
Great visitors center and musium. They have a cafe, gift shop, and restrooms. Good place to take a break from a road trip. There is a charge but they do offer discounts for military, seniors and other. Also a discount for buying advance tickets online.
Michael Weaver
So, went here without knowing anything about it. Rest area a couple miles before was closed and, during a long road trip, saw the sign and said, "eh, why not?"
Cute signs along the roadway on the drive up... Admission was a bit pricey ($55 for two adults and two children, one of which was free). Went in and saw several props (alien, lunar lander, and an astronaut) to take photos with. Then a 20 minute, or so, video explaining the significance of the site (so, this place is pretty important... no spoilers). After that, free walking tours, the ability to go to a 4D ride which is CLEARLY aimed at children, which my four year old LOVED and my wife gladly accepted a non-motion chair, and a gift shop, cafe, and tons of sightseeing. It was a bit refreshing to have several telescopes sighted in on important things that were FREE! No nickle and diming....
On a whim, and the need for a bathroom and some leg movement after a long car ride, this place was great and I can't recommend it enough. Cool little piece of history and gorgeous views. You can spend an hour here... or three. Loved it!
Jim Wessel
Highly recommend. The staff and tour guides at meteor crater Visitor Center we're very helpful and personable. The gift shop is large and well-appointed. The museum portion of it, proper, was well maintained and had a lot of Hands-On interactive displays. I knew a fair amount about Barringer Crater going in, but there was a lot of material that I was not familiar with so I learned quite a bit. Two adults and two kids ran us $70, so it's a bit pricey.
Rhonda Sims
It was cool, but we just wanted to see it and not all the other things available to do. $57 to get us 3 in, 2 adults and 1 junior.
Samuel Qian Jiang
It is a nice stop for people visiting the Grand Canyon. One of the kind, since it is the best preserved meteor crater so far on this planet. It is some unique experience to walk at the edge and look down. Only need to plan about 30 minutes there.
You do need to pay thought.
Phil Albro
Great information, although somewhat repetitive between different exhibits and presentations. Staff were engaging and personable.
Michael D'Anza
This was a very unique experience. We totally enjoyed our time here
Brian Ward
Meteor Crater is a unique place. If you are interested in astronomical events and how they impact the Earth it is worth visiting.
There are a couple items here that feel more like a theme park than a natural landmark. They are a clear differentiation from a National Park Service-managed facility.
In the past visitors could walk the trail around the crater rim. That was no longer permitted when we visited in November 2022. This lack of access, combined with the price, makes this a place I would not visit regularly.
Mark K
Nice visit. You can even get in with an RV towing a car into Mars Parking lot.
Shannon Bell
I've wanted to visit since I was in grade school and finally got the chance. Very nice facility and beautiful views! Lots of information about the creation of the crater and about meteor events around the world. There's a movie and interactive stations throughout, plus a one of a kind gift shop. It's for everyone young and old.
Teresa O'Bryant
It's a recommended 2 hour tour. Strongly suggest planning ahead. I stopped on a whim as I was driving by & only had 45 minutes before they closed for night.
Some educational info but an expensive stop for a family given what's available to see & do.
Recommend all the National Monuments and Parks in area instead.
Baj Bajwa
Definitely a unique place! Drove there in my 18 wheeler! No problem at all! Just park in the RV lot!
Jessica Ramirez
Incredible place. While the crater itself is stunning! While
The crater is the main attraction, I do wish they had more exhibits other than the theater style ones. I took my kids and those were their least favorite. Also, I have a 4 year old that cannot sit still or stop asking questions regardless of her having to be quiet or not so I was not able to enjoy those. The gift shop was also a little bland
For me. It was mainly just overpriced rocks that I could get cheaper somewhere else.
George Vogel
Exhibits were high-quality, food was decent and not too expensive, and the staff was friendly, even during COVID. Not managed by a government entity, so expect to pay a bit more to visit, but we thought it was well worth the cost of admission. The film in the theater was well done, and the gift shop kept the kids busy.
Community Watchdog
Its very cool. BUT as cool as it is an its 2mi. In diameter I really don't see why there is not a hiking trail all the way around. It would be a great walk. An I don't see why it should have to be a guided tour. Just a sidewalk or path for anyone who pays to get in can walk all the way around it and take photos.
Tommy Taylor
Unbelievable. Only wished you could hike to the center inside the Crater. Super huge. Take a look thru the periscope at the astronaut at the bottom, you can't see it from the rim. Take the time for the intro theater and sit in a motion seat. An opportunity you shouldn't miss. Wished I knew about this place 35 years ago.
Misty
A little expensive for a quick stop. Might plan for a whole day for 25.00 a person. But it was amazing to look at
Amy Lynn
It was amazing! And our tour guide was awesome! She told everything about the history of it and kept it interesting. She let you ask questions. Plus they have a place to keep your pets for you while you take the tour.
John Williams
Fantastic visit! We'll worth the time. All the staff was friendly and informative
Joseph Boughman
Definitely a place to bring the kids, or anyone who's intrigued by something that came from space. They have a 1406 pound fragment of the meteor that made the Crater sitting on display. It's a cool thought to get to come in contact with something that came from outer space. If you buy the smashed pennies at the gift shop, note that you pay $4 for 4 coins. Someone left 3 behind because they thought they were paying $4 for only 1. Keep cranking until you get them all. The gift shop has so many cool things for sale, including legit fragments of meteorites!
Ajay Ivan Cordeiro
Visit to get to an experience of your lifetime. Best preserved crater on earth.
Sidian Kain
Was a little surprised at the entry cost. When you strip away the space and geology museum it's a giant hole in the ground not even a particularly pretty one. That being said the museum experience was excellent the crater is massive, the lack of a rim trail to preserve... Something .. is disappointing. The little space adventure movie/ride the kids really enjoyed. I've been here a few times years ago. A nice day trip paired with other local attractions like bearizona I recommend at least seeing it once.
Norma Arnold
The wind. Is. Insane!! Now that we have that out of the way, this is such a great place to visit for people of all ages. They have educational areas as well as interactive. My son and I loved it! The crater area has three different levels to view from so you’re sure to get great perspective. The next time we’re traveling through the area, we’ll definitely be stopping back through.
Marsha Keller
So informative with all sorts of media. Movie, 4-d “ride” was cute. Loved the feel of openness as well as a discovery center. Staff were all helpful and knew their stuff. This world has so much to offer.
Josh Kail
Never knew this was here. Had a great time, bring comfy shoes, and water if you stay for the tour, and just enjoy
Mandy B
Very informative center offering a museum and a movie on the crater, the mining that took place, a 4D movie on NASA training activity and an amazing gift shop. Then of course the immense crater! With different viewing levels and indicators as too the size this was an amazing experience! So happy we came out on an impulse.
Alyssa Nichols
This was one of my favorite Route 66 stops. I learned so much in the short time I was there. What an awe-inspiring place. It really blew my mind. The guided tours weren't operating, but each individual we spoke with was knowledgeable and really added to the overall experience. The gift shop was very cool and had a great variety of souvenirs.
Data Ready
Such a sight to see. Truly a landmark in our country that given the opportunity anyone should see the mark our cosmos left on this little blue planet. Pictures can not do it justice.... but unfortunately if you don't have $25 per person pictures is all you will ever get to see. At least being able to view such a site should not be a subject to capitalize on.
Jaci Davis
After several decades of driving by and thinking I'd like to see the crater sometime, I finally did. Really cool to see in person and there's a lot on display. Be sure to do the 4D ride. Admission price helps fund research.
SITTI ZALEHA
Interesting and educational visit. Lots of parking space. Theatre, exhibits, cafe, gift shop and you can walk part of the trail yourself. Spend about 1 to 3 hours as you like it.
Scott Julian
Didn't get to go down but was fun with lots of information
Kristina Moldovan
Fun place and pretty neat as well. I wasn't aware of the $22/person price for this attraction, but they have a museum, observation area, a fun little seated ride thingy, tours of the crater itself, lots of history and information on craters and meteorites. The drive from the interstate is only 6 miles and they have fun signs along the road. We did not eat here but I did see a food area oh, and a nice gift shop. Worth the visit if you do all the fun stuff they have to offer😊
Patricia Maldonado
Pretty awesome and educational place to visit with family. We stopped here after Downtown Winslow. Bit pricey but worth the whole visit and experience. Gift shop pricey top but? They also forgot to put 1 of my sons Geiods in our bag 😪 over all had goos visit and lots of photo ops. …
Liz Oppenhuis
3rd visit after 10 years, and it keeps getting better. Beautiful visitor's center.
Cesar Z
This place is a must vist natural landmark. I was blown away by the sheer size of the crater. You see it in pictures and videos, but nothing like being there and experiencing the magic of nature. I just loved the whole experience.
Alison Graham
Fascinating place. Museum was fun. I feel it was a bit pricey. Maybe they should charge extra for the guided tour and charge less for admission? We didn’t even go it.
rebecka williams
Missed the Grand Canyon, as there was an accident on the way, so decided to detour here instead to stretch our legs. Grand Canyon it is not, but so worth the $$ to come here. Great 10 minute theatre showing, awesome gift shop. The crater itself is amazing! 4 viewing levels.
Regina Thorp
In our opinion it was worth the money & time. We bought our tickets online & saved a little. We opted to not go on the guided tour & wonder if that was a mistake. If you have the time, I believe I'd do the guided tour, especially if you have kids, they'd learn more. I recommend, where else are you going to see a meteor crater a mile wide. Very interesting!
Lisa Bruno
What an amazing place! Before you even get into the museum and see the meteor, you experience the environment and a few unexpected characters. Seeing the meteor is a sight to see. And beautiful views of Arizona. Finally, you can learn more about meteors in the museum. Go on your own or have a tour guide. Either way you will enjoy yourself. And remember to stop in the well stocked gift shop with crystals, magnets, t-shirts, mugs, books, and more. Definitely worth a stop. Plan to stay an hour or two.
Mahamood Ahmed (Namma Thambi)
Extra ordinary view , must visit place for nature lover's.
Ann Patterson
It's a must stop before you go to the Grand Canyon.
Yanet Pennypacker
Amazing place! So glad we stopped in on our trip cross country.
Jessica Oates
We had a guided tour, Aaron or Eric, not sure, but a great guide! We really enjoyed it. I would love to come back and do a full rim tour and spend more time. The walk can be difficul, I saw a lot of people huffing and puffing for air so keep that in mind. It was hot but the sunset was amazing! The gift shop has some cool stuff, the kids got amethyst and souvenir rocks and I saw some cool NASA related items. The ladies in the shop were wonderful and helpful even though we were the last to leave. I highly recommend it!
Jeanine Stephens
Very cool place to stop. Allow enough time to enjoy all the activities. The museum is hands on and great learning experience. The Crater is amazing, has awesome viewing platforms for photos. VERY windy, be careful, hold onto your belongings when viewing the crater. $22.00 per person 14 years and older (June 2020)
Gary Pinkowski Sr.
Very educational place to visit.
Patrick G
Little pricey but worth it. The have a small museum you walk through and a couple of interactive items. Once you get outside you have 3 different paths to choose from to see the crater! Food court, gift shop, we brought our dog so he stayed at their Pet Ramada. Dude that helped us was really cool. 💪 …
Naomi Holifield
Great place to explore and learn about craters and meteors. They have an actual meteor and crater site along with a small discovery center with lots of interactive information. Great for kids. A little pricey and we had to wait a while for the 4D ride but really fun!
Jim Davis
Very cool place, definitely worth a visit!! Don't pick up and take rocks while you're there! It's against the rules but there are no signs warning against it and presenters don't mention it
Dennis Zheng
Its a little bit over priced spot, there is not much of place you can’t move around.-
Rachel Gilliam
Great place. You could get a guided Tore all the way down to the crater. But we didn't do that. Very fun and educational.
Nancy Adams
Absolutely Amazing. Well worth the trip. Excellent if you love science. Review video coming out on YouTube channel " The Thin Blue Lane RV Life " This place is a must see.
Rico Burgos
Pretty cool to see it from 1000’ above the ground. Awesome view
Robert Thompson
This place will blow your mind! Excellent exhibit
Robert Allen (tippy)
$28 adult entry now. I was there a few minutes b4 8am. Gates do not open till 8am. Separate RV parking. GR8 place to visit. Clean bathrooms and lotsa souvenirs to purchase with the history learning experience.
Bill Self
We'll, it's the only meteor Crater in the US, so the competition is nil, but it was fun. The little movies are worth it. Take the guided tour. The national parks passes do not work there, it's $20+ tax for seniors.
Gina Keyser
Would have been better if I had more time... they have a spot for dogs so they aren't in the car which was awesome! Gift shop was nice but expensive. It does seem expensive for what it is but if you have time to watch the videos and get the full experience, it's worth it!
Scott Palmer
Something I've always wanted to see! Beautiful views from the Visitor Center's walking path. Just amazing! There ARE elevators for those needing them. Great museum and gift shop. They even have a piece of that meteor!
vane g
My kids and I really enjoyed it, nice museum with welcoming, friendly staff. They had two theaters one was a simulater and the other a 10min video of the meteor. Clean restrooms and a decent cafe. There gift shop is awesome one of the best with really reasonable prices, especially if your into rocks, crystals, stones you'll find them here!
Melanie Taylor
So, it's been a decade since the last time i was there. It is a really neat place. The exhibits are well thought out and flow well. The lighting is iffy in a few places. The documentation of history is phenomenal. The observation decks are well maintained and clean. I love the fact the one deck has the permapositioned telescopes.
Unfortunately, the day i went there were no tour guides. Also unfortunately, the dude taking money at the window was exceptionally rude and judgemental with my paying in cash, and the age difference between my husband and i.
I didn't do the movie as i was unprepared for paying $43 for entry (1 senior, 1 adult, and 1 child). i don't remember it being that expensive 10 years ago, bit maybe it was.
I think for the price, if you've never been, it's absolutely worth it. If you've been, i don't know the price justifies going again. This is a privately operated site, so your national and state park passes aren't valid.
Alan Geldner
Amazing place with a great view and a unique museum. Definitely worth the stop if you're on 40. Support the work of these awesome people! Oh and military and senior discounts are great here!
Matt M
A fun suprise find on our Arizona trip!
Dave Lai
A very informative and well thought out visitor facility. Skip the 4D theater experience. Its kinda weird and geared toward 5year olds. Enjoy the rest of the center.
Tricia Hefner
Definitely a fun side trip if you're in the area! The visitors center is nice, with a gift shop, restrooms, a small Subway restaurant, a museum, overlook areas, and a small theater. Plan on spending a couple of hours here to see everything! The 10 minute overview video of the crater is interesting, but everything in the video is covered on the tour (at least it was with ours). The guided rim tour (included with admission) lasts 30 minutes in the hotter months and an hour in the cooler months. It was hot but worth it! Our tour guide Aaron was very knowledgeable about the crater and how it came to be owned by his family. They also own the RV park and gas station near the Interstate exit, and the tickets come with a discount on gas and drinks at the Mobil station. They are very proud of their business and their crater (the best preserved meteorite crater in the world). Overall, my family had a good time and I'm glad we stopped. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the price. Adult tickets are $18, which seems steep, but we will remember the experience.
Levi Thomas
Such a great place to visit. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun. Even had a fly over by an Air Force C130 that tipped his wing to wave. Plenty of parking for 18 wheelers too. Nice way to spend your break time. I stayed for an hour and 45 minutes and could have stayed longer.
valarie finn
Such a fascinating subject. In spite of social distancing the visit was remarkable. Everyone was courteous and respectful and actually because people were spaced comfortably apart, there were unfettered access to the spectacular views and weren't rushed to get out of the way of others. This was especially beneficial for my 83 year old Dad, who needed a bit of extra time on the many steps. The weather was exquisite lending to a fantastic overall experience.
Thanks for presenting and preserving this wonder. ☄❤
Moises Mascorro
Brought my Girlfriend here as she had always wanted to check this place out. Got here at approximately 2 PM in time for one of the last tours. Admission was $18 each. Our tour guide Jake, was awesome and shared a lot of information in an one hour tour with about a mile walk. Taking the tour allows you to go to one side of the crater. If you don't take the tour you can visit another side of the crater which has approximately three observation decks. We did both. Took tons of pictures. The museum has a couple of interactive exhibits and also has windows which you can see the crater from, in case you don't want to walk outside. This was worth the trip. According to the tour guide, another crater in the US is in Odessa, TX but that one is almost disappearing due to high winds.
Peter Carne
Its more than just a massive hole in the ground. Its a bit of a desolate drive up to the site. But the signage on the way to impact makes the drive in a little entertaining. We had the guided tour with Aaron, a local from the area who was very knowledgeable, and provided lots of info about how the crater was formed and the science surrounding it. Very cool place!
Daniel Barba
The management has done a lot of upgrades, such as a 4D show and a movie showing. Due to the pandemic its a little different but we were still able to enjoy its awe and use all the amenities minus the water showers. It is a 22 dollar entry fee but they do offer military/veteran discounts also dependents. No pets inside but ample parking.
Catherine H (Blue3yedNerd)
Well worth a stop!! Giant, giant crater made by a meteorite. The museum there was well-made and interesting to look through after seeing the massive crater itself. Also had very clean bathrooms.
Y. McCoy
It was awesome. A must see in Arizona. Staff there are very informative and passionate about your visit. Blasted Bistro cashier was kind and patient with our family in decision making and ordering. The bacon cheese burger is soooooo good!
Roxanne Morrill
Got our money worth listening and reading about 80 % of the displays , and the guided tour on outside of the rim was quite interesting.
Kristina Abbey
It was pretty cool to see. The entry cost was very high at $18 for adult and $16 for senior. Plus they charged extra is you want to see the movie. To me, that should have been included in the admission cost. The view was neat, an interesting museum, and well-maintained walking paths. Good to visit but definitely could be improved.
Johnathan “GorillaCO” B
The entrance fee I believe was $23 per person, to get to the museum you go on a drive right pass the gas station, which is pretty nice and sells a variety of things. Please watch for cows on this road as they are crossing variously. Once you get to the museum you'll realise that even the parking has an amazing view and your not even in the crater yet. As you enter the building you are met with the ticket booth, as you go through you can either take the elevator up or stairs. One of the first things you see is the test capsule which is awesome if you like anything to do with space. On the left is the gift shop and eatery (sorry we arrived late and I believe it was closed so I don't have much info on that.) On the right was the way to the 4d ride which was cute, be aware the seats vibrate and you get air suddenly blown in your face. After going through that you can check out the little movie they have to show which was very informative, then you can go through and view little displays with history and information of the location. Once you go outside to view the crater though you will be blown away.
Mickayla Volker
Wow! What a site to see! This was an awesome experience and I wish we had more time to explore! Some attractions require masks currently which is good to know before you go!
K G
It's not every day you get to see a spot that the earth was hit by a huge meteor at, so, THAT alone is interesting to see. Any movies or interactive activities or facts you may enjoy there are all bonus to that, do, go check it out. If you look at the center of the Crater you can see an astronaut and flag,it's that big! Check it out!
Sara Treiber-Stahl
Well worth the five miles off the interstate. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. Well maintained grounds. Excellent exhibits and well curated. My son enjoyed himself immensely, as did I.
Nick Chomyk
Yes, you have to pay to visit and it’s not cheap in comparison to national parks, but it’s a business. The free tour along the crater edge, which is included in the admission, should be taken to get the best value. However, they are not run every hour, as it depends on staff availability. We were lucky, as our arrival coincided with a tour, but there were only 3 that day. My recommendation would be to call ahead to see when the tours are on. The tour lasts about an hour and is very informative. Lots of time for photos and questions to the guide. It’s suitable for all ages, but not for buggies, wheelchairs or mobility problems. It’s about a ¼ of mile out along the rim and back. Wear a hat and take water, including sunscreen. If I hadn’t been on the tour I would have felt that it was not good value. One word about the tour is that once you are on it there is no way back if you want to leave early or need a bathroom break. There is lots more to see, including a film on how the crater was formed and an exhibition. You can also touch and have your photo taken with a part of the actual meteor. The gift shop is full of the stuff you get at these places. There is also a Subway takeaway as part of the gift shop. The car park is free, but you cannot see anything unless you pay admission. There is no Wi-Fi.
paul hilliard
Well pretty interesting for a hole in the ground. We found it interesting. I like how they brought science and space into it.
Go check it out what else ya got to do in Arizona
Sid Wegener
Cool place. $25 to check it out. 4D experience was fun. I'm told that you used to be able to go into the crater, but not anymore.
Kevin Werner
So, this is NOT a National Park or the like. So...you will pay accordingly to visit. It was like $110 for the 5 of us.
Even though we didn't take full advantage, it was worth it to us. You cannot appreciate the crater without seeing it. They have a great set of telescopes to put it's enormity into proper perspective. I suggest trying to find the 6' astronaut on the floor before looking into the telescope.
All of the workers were pleasant. We didn't have time to do the movie, but I'm sure it was good. The exhibits were perfect and well worth the time.
In summation, understand this is a private facility and pay their price. It is worth it.
Brian Benton
Very fun place to visit, well worth the drive. We skipped the guided tour, that seemed a little too intense for our taste. Other then that, facility was awesome, clean, everyone was friendly, and it's a super interesting spot to check out! Highly recommend!
Michael Freeland
Amazing site to see. Went with very high winds and I would not suggest that. A little bit expensive in my opinion. It was just under 50 bucks for 2 people. I'd still recommend going if you have free time to stop in on your road trip.
adriane sāra price
Fun and educational place for people of all ages. It was $24 for each adult on April 9th, 2022. There is a bit of a walk but good to wear sturdy shoes. There are plenty of areas to get good pictures and great views.
Peter Ventres
Amazing 50 thousand year old crater. Tour is very well done and gives you a lot of information on the craters creation and history. There's even parts of a crashed airplane at the craters base.
justin diederix
Drove from snowy Flagstaff, was wet and windy here, so could not get an outside tour or go to the highest lookout. (Safety)
Plenty of other things to do inside.
Booked online with a little discount compared to purchase on site.
Todd Alan Golden
It was $45.00 for two people to get inside and we just left,Gas was high enough at this time.but I would say it's something to do. The restrooms we're very clean and the workers were nice to us.
Becca Algozzino
Very nice museum!! Great souvenir shop! Every single staff member was outgoing and polite.
Kellie B
Very cool stop. It was pricey to get in to see a big hole in the ground, but they did a decent job on the little museum. They do free guided tours along the rim where they will tell you about a plane crash that happened inside the crater that left part of the fuselage on the inside rim that you can see with the binoculars from the top. You can see the mineshaft where they tried digging 200+ feet down to find the meteor that created the imprint as well as an astronaut holding a US flag as tribute to NASA who used this crater in training for all the Apollo missions. There are elevators for those that need them, a kennel for your dog because they don't allow dogs, 4d ride, restrooms, and gift shop. Worth the money to see the crater, but probably wouldn't come back because of the price.
Brandon Glasgow
The meteor crater, the museum, and the little 4d Expierience is cool but the prices are (no pun intended) astronomically high. We had a group of 7 and it costed us well over 100 bucks which for all you get to see is a little outrageous. Other than that it was a cool experience.
Drakar Potter
Really fascinating place. Great info from tours and history lessons inside. 10/10, friendly to big or small families!
David Nonato
Wholly cow! I've seen this on many documentaries but definitely a whole different level in person.
There's a museum, gift shop and guided tours to give you a good understanding of this magnificent crater.
Dog friendly location, you can bring your pets and rent a kennel with AC for those hot days
Roxanne Fox
Definitely worth the stop. They make the most out of a multi dimensional experience. Educational for children and adults.
Matt Shaffer
Meteor Crater is a great gem a few miles south of Interstate 40. You can view the crater from several observation sites, There is a wonderful museum and gift shop. You will learn a lot of science and history about the crater.
maria Flores
Very enigmatic. Lucky to be able and appreciate what a meteor can do. This crater is an amazing sight to see.
Cassy Bug
There's so much to learn here. The winds were too high for a guided tour and there weren't many handicapped accessable areas outside the building, I'm on a cane, but what I was able to see was amazing, it's so beautifully preserved, and you can learn so much about meteors there
Jeff Owens
I was surprised how interesting this was. Warning, this an educational attraction. If you feel out p er this kind thing, you'll love it.
Lester Sullivan
Didn't have time to hit it up, but it was good to hear about the tour around part of the rim
Steven Holland
Great museum, with magnificent views of the impact crater. There are some interactive displays. Even my 13 year sulky teenager had a good time.
Maxim Cherey
If you like space and things that are related to space it is definitely worth to visit! Crater itself is amazing! There is a museum too where you can find a lot of information and to see the actual part of Meteor (there is a gifts shop where you can even buy a small part of Meteor oxide). Be aware that if you won't take a free tour it won't take much time to explore everything (it took me ~40 minutes including gifts shop) . Entrance tickets aren't cheap (22$ for an adult)
Juliana Alexander
Durring our cross country move we stopped here. My kids loved it and would have stayed longer if possible. The only problem we had was that we had to put our dog in a create, or one person stay behind. The create area was nice and covered with fans but it was a small area the just didnt work for our dog.
Martin Rayner
OMG, wow, what an awesome look into our past
The whole set up/visitors center is arranged beautifully
Thoughtfully done but rather expensive
Brian F Olsen
Very expensive for what you get. It is a shame that this isn't a national monument or park. I am torn about the whole thing. I am so glad that my family went and saw this unbelievable site. Yet so upset at the money grab operation being run there. The least they could do is repair the broken stuff outside and get the water off the ground where the viewing area is. Maybe hire some people who cared about the place and the experience people get. I'm sure it is minimum wage all the way. You can't understand how big it is without going. If you have the money go there. I wish we had kept driving til the petrified forest. Next time I guess.
nicholas campbell
Such an amazing attraction. Definitely worth the time to stop and visit.
Paul Nicholson (pwnicholson)
Overpriced, but it's not horrible. If you're headed past here and have an extra hour and the money for the entry, it's a pretty unique site and worth visiting. And almost worth the entry fee.
They also throw in a bunch of cheesy 4D rides and videos to try to make it feel worth it. And the small museum they have really isn't bad at all
April Bajcar
This was so much fun. A great spot for the family and nice break from the heat. I was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, but it was a blast. I also want to point out they had the friendliest employees ever. Every single one of them.
Matt Crain
Pretty cool place. Enjoyed everything. Very glad took time to stop!
Tara Dockweiler
We saw a billboard for the meteor crater and followed the roadside signs to find it. Friendly staff and an enjoyable place for the whole family.
Warman Hall
I think the visitor center has had a recent upgrade. Many people who had visited the landmark before were commenting on how much nicer it is. I would say the facility as a whole is excellent. Just the kind of facility needed for such an amazing geologic Landmark! Elevators and wheelchair accessible entrances. A kennel for your pets! A movie theater a mineral and gift shop and a Subway restaurant.
Allison King
Very cool and definitely worth the stop! We stopped by a few years ago and there is so much more to do now. We took the rim tour which also gives you amazing unobstructed views and lots of neat information! Definitely worth the trip!
Garry Kaiser
Awesome place to visit! Definitely worth the admission! Love how much it has changed in the last 30 years!
DokTorSep
Very interesting and fun adventure. Great for children that like space exploration and Astronaut, astronomy, geology, archeology. Veterans get a discount too.
Paul Ayala (SoCalbeachcruiser)
The Visitor Center is 5 miles off I-40 but well worth the visit and price. This is one stop I really enjoyed, they have a nice souvenir shop, museum and learning center, but the real high light was the crater itself. Photos and movies do not do it justice, it is HUGE and really brings into focus the danger falling space material could cause.
BOARD GAME MAN
$22 is overpriced. $12-$15 would be good. An employee walked into the theater and mumbled to herself out loud... "This is the last showing, it'll take me to 5 pm and then I'm outta here." Saw her book it out of there once the show was over. That was horrible to see.
matthew Brown
The staff was great and it was really cool to see and not far off the highway
Barbara Carter
Amazing and so scary to learn how vulnerable our Earth is from an asteroid strike.
Cynthia “Dragonfly777” Schwarz
The experience was incredible and educational! Very glad we made the trip! A must see!!
TakayasMom
I first visited here about 15 years ago when there was not much else to see. Now, there is a museum, a 4D movie, huge gift shop, a small restaurant, and even a guided tour. I had a nice visit.
Indira Osiris
Wonderful view
Nice facilities
Need more postcards models
Helen Don
Went here as a kid and came back with my kids and it was awesome! The visitors center entertained us for hours! There is so much information and interactive exhibits in the museum, the kids loved it. It was about 15 degrees out with the wind chill, so we couldn’t spend a lot of time outside and the walking tours were cancelled. It was still a great experience and both the free film and the 4D were fun.
Karen Peterson
This wasn't on our travel plans. But saw the sign and stopped in. So glad we did. Very glad we did.
Kelley Jorgensen
I great stop just off route 66. Loved the history and science behind it all. Gift shop had lots of neat stuff and all the staff were knowledgeable!
I would highly recommend this place, if it were not so expensive. $18/person is way too much.
Tour: there is a guided tour that's free and optional. It's one hour long, and one mile in total. If you decide to go you cannot return to the building no matter what. I would bring water and use the restroom before you go!
The complimentary movie was informative, felt like I was watching the history channel.
The $5/person movie was ridiculous. The lady at the counter said it was cool, we asked explicitly if it were a cartoon. She said no it's cool. It's a cartoon about a rabbit saving earth from a giant asteroid. Kids would love it. We did not. Found out later that the actor still works there!
Anyway, 3 stars because I had mixed feelings about price vs value. It was an awesome experience, great photo opportunity Touch a space rock, learn about meteors... Pay $80
Alexa Ridgway
A little pricey, but worth it. Very nice gift shop. Be prepared for lots of walk. We didn't have time to do a guided tour, the next one wasn't for over an hour. They had lots of plaques with information about the crater and the family that discovered it.
吴锐恒(Ruiheng Edbalt Wu)
The exhibition and movie are really nice and educational. The size of the crater is incredible.
Rhonda Rivera
Although the admission price is steep, it's worth the visit. The museum is very interesting, lots of facts and even some interactive displays. We went on their 4D "ride" experience, And it was fine. The best part was the 30-minute tour around the rim and up to view the crater. The tour guide (big curly hair, can't remember his name) was super knowledgeable and interesting and funny.
The place admittedly is in the middle of nowhere, but after our 4-hour visit, we decided to hit Walnut Canyon, which was right on the way back to Flagstaff. In hindsight, we should have hiked first and then went to the crater.
Bryan Simmons
I really went into it thinking I was going to spend 5 minutes looking at a hole in the ground, but I was amazed at the professionalism of the displays in the visitor center and the crater was pretty amazing as well.
David Shonkwiler
What a cool place to stop. Only 7 miles 0ff the highway. Something to learn about when you travel. Cool gift shop and very nice people that work there.
Arlene Ripley
While we don't usually stop at private attractions, this was well worth the entrance price. The buildings and exhibits were first class, great movie and the meteor crater itself quite spectacular. Highly recommend a visit here.
Lesley M
So incredibly interesting! I love that there are different lookout points and interactive exhibits. Very educational. A memorable experience!
L Ang
we visited here in 2009, it was fascinating to see the size of the meteor Crater! and the fact that the creater was preserved.we went on the hike around the Crater Rim, it was in the middle of nowhere
Kristina Calvin
This place was amazing but what really went over and beyond for us was they had a dog area you paid not very much they put your dog in a cool kennel area watched them gave them water ext... which was a huge relief for us as we were road tripping so not like we had someplace else to keep our dog and they don't allow dogs in the crater area / museum . We were going to take turns with her outside the crater area which would have been a hassle but kids really love so for us it would have been worth it for us . But if there's anyone else out there traveling with there dog and concerned about the heat definitely don't have to worry about them here we were able to enjoy everything and is totally worth it kids got to learn alot.
Phyllis Dixon
We learned a lot about the efforts to understand and preserve this ancient landmark, and how many years it took to figure out what caused the crater. It will be used by Artemis moon program astronauts as it was for Apollo astronauts to simulate the moon's surface. Over the years I drove by here 2 or 3 times and am so glad we took the time on this trip.
Ottilia Sibanda
Awesome, you have a lot to learn and see, for just a small fee. Not too crowded
Ashley Beauregard
It was definitley an amazing experience. My daughter had such fun and learned alot..I just thought I'd be visiting a hole in the ground, but to actually see thus massive hole in the ground created by something that just flew in from outer space and changed everything..was amazing..definitley suggest going
Jacob Gerhardt
Little overpriced for just being able to stand in one location and look at the crater. There's a documentary and museum, but I didn't have time as I was just passing through. I just wanted to marvel at the crater.
JJ Williams
I feel the price of $22 per person was too high. It is a strikingly large crater, but we did not find the amenities justified the cost of entry. There was a lot of hype on the website about the space museum aspect, and we found it lacking.
Gary Adams
This is an excellent roadside attraction full of things for kids and adults to enjoy. Don't miss the film, and the gift shop is a lot of fun too. Make time for the crater tour.
Christopher Peart
Really great place. Staff is friendly and well informed. Lots of displays relating to the meteor impact. Nice gift shop.
nanae yokohama
It's so cool to see the huge crater. There is a corner you can learn what theeteor impact caused and other things. There are interactive displays for kids to learn with fun.
4D theater was great as well.
Well maintained facility.
Brett Hutchins
Careful on the drive. There is a grate across the road that causes a dip. So make sure you dont bottom out on your way in or out. So glad i came here though. The museum/theater is cool but the crater is a must see.
joan sample
Fascinating and educational. We all loved it! So glad we went and would highly recommend it!! Pictures can't do it justice.
Sharon McNutt
Great museum and gift shop. Employees very informative and polite. A great stop to add to your long drive. Dog friendly too!
Curt Lewis
Awesome place to see. It is a must to go thru the guided tour. The guide will explain in detail how the place came to be the destination that it is today. Then you check out the rest of the museum, gift , and coffee shop!
Shanon Allen
Great getaway on a long roadtrip. Pleasantly surprised how enjoyable this place was. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and funny. It was very interesting to see what a meteor does to our planet and how many times this has happened. The museum is cool and the movie explains it all.
Ariel Pevná
They have cool museum, cinema, cinema for kids and interactive staff for all ages.
Heidi Luekenga
I wasn't super impressed. Want to see it? Just do an image search. There are some nifty things to learn which can also be learned through an internet search. It's just a big hole in the ground. There is a 4D "movie" it's just a big VR thing, cute for kids. Not too impressive for anyone much older than 13-14. If you still are excited to go, then buy your ticket ahead of time on the internet to save a few bucks and possible line. Don't bring your pet. Not allowed. They do have a pathetic excuse for a kennel for $15 but the sweet fur critters are all alone locked in their 2x3 cell and bark the whole time stressed out.
Curtis Autry
I thought we could see it from the parking lot but you can't. It's worth paying though, we had a blast!
Christine Deubel
This was very interesting. Amazed at the size of the crater. Dogs are not allowed but they do have nice kennels to rent while you are visiting . There is shade and water and they have an attendant
Craig Redding
$23 apiece for senior tickets is a bit steep for what is offered. Other than that, a very interesting site to visit. Can now mark that off my bucket list.
Severen Brown
The visitor center was great, we had lunch after watching a short movie on the crater, keep in mind it is 25 dollars to look at the crater and you cannot walk around the rim or go down into it. The visitor center is fantastic though
Chris Lemmel
The place is really cool. The discovery center has exhibits on both the crater and other similar things. There is a film describing the events of the impact. The guided tour was very well done. Dorothy was our guide and did a fantastic job. She was funny and informative.
Linda Pachl
Yes, it's a big hole in the ground.
I was concerned it might be a bit boring, and too expensive for what's on offer.
However, it was actually quite fascinating. Lovely little short film was very informative. The 4D theatre was closed which was disappointing, but the discovery center kept us occupied for some time. We didn't get to do the rim walk, as there was no information about that on the day.
Hector V
An out of this world experience! As magnificent & breathtaking as the Grand Canyon (which is not too far from here). You start at the visitor's center, which provides history and knowledge through interactive activities, props, and documentaries. Then you make your way to the rim of the giant crater where you take a moment to imagine the series of celestial events that caused it. There is no rush, so take your time 🙂
There's nothing in the area leading up to the site except the gas station upon exiting the freeway. Although parking is free, there is a fee for entering the visitor center. You cannot see the crater otherwise.
Ken Sellers
We liked the Visitor Center, but noticed a few discrepancies. For example, in some places it said the meteor was traveling 26,000 miles per hour; other places said 40,000. It does make you wonder how factually reliable the exhibits are. Meteor Crater is worth checking out, but 2 hours is probably more than enough time for your visit.
Jeff Ilardi
What a surprisingly fun stop. It's amazing this facility is out in the middle of nowhere. Learned a lot at the visitors center.
Doug Marsh
Nice visitor center. Handicap accessible these days. Big difference from when I first visited 50+ years ago. Pricey but one of a kind experience.
Fábio Rafael Herpich
Nice place to visit with kids. Instructive and illustrative.
Surya Poudel
Has alot Parking, restrooms are well maintained. Have a resturant. It does have all facilities including path for disables. The old man sounds like scientist and had alot of knowlegde about the crater. But i am not convinced with that 20$, that is definitely an expensive price for an hour tour.
Dean Sevigny
Wow just wow! This was one of those once in a lifetime family days. Just sitting here trying to imagine the cataclysmic event that happened here some 50,000 years ago. A must see and another item on the Bucket List checked off.
Rebecca Hreha
Took my kids the other day and they absolutely loved it!
Lucinda Reed
Was worth the visit for us. I would recommend spending some time here. Go on the guided tour, see the movies, and walk around. Wish we had spent more time here, but we were passing through.
Cathryn Clement
A lot of information and some nice hands-on exhibits.
Fernando Abello
What a great experience. Highly adgise the 12 mile detour for anyone driving close to this landmark.
The place itself is very taken care of. Very presentable. And a great experience over all. There’s easy parking for any type car and it is very affordable with immense amounts of history
Baha
Wow amazing
Watch video first
Then walk to crater
And look exhibit later
WiFi speed is not good but still fine.
Phones are working
Clean bathrooms
Subway is open
Great service
Steven Lewis
Awesome educational pit stop on our road trip
Michelle Simonson
We weren't planning on stopping but needed a bathroom break. This was a great stop just a few miles off the hwy. Free for active military and discount for veterans. There is a shaded kennel to put your pup in so you don't have to leave them in the car. We did not do the tour because we were short on time, but the crater itself is pretty spectacular.
Chandra Mohan
Definitely recommend if you are in the area. Their free tour is also great
Selyah King
Absolutely loved the experience!! Waaaay more going on there than I expected. From the friendly staff waving to me while I was down in the parking lot from their office windows above, to the *VIP* 4D Space Mission Ride that I got to ride all by myself (because I was one of the first people in the building right when they opened lol), huge museum with a ton of interesting information and historical artifacts, a movie theater, guided tours every hour, a gift shop with a vast array of souvenirs and last but very not least.....THE METEOR CRATER!!!! Holy cow it's enormous! It's humbling being in the presence of something of that magnitude. It gives a true feeling of how small we really are. There are pathways that take you up high for a great view of the entire area, and pathways that take down into the crater (a little bit). But once you're below the rim of the crater, you start to notice an absolute absence of sound, and it's weird because you're outside in broad daylight. No sound of birds chirping, not even the slightest sound of wind blowing! An absolute must see if you're traveling along the I-40 interstate through Arizona between Flagstaff and Winslow.
5 Star experience for me!! Highly recommend you stop off to witness this place. And it's only a quick 6 miles off the highway 👍🏽
K. Urs Grütter
While the crater itself is not that impressive, the museum rather is. The insights derived from years of mining and then scientific research are worth being studied, so plan enough time for the museum.
Kent Roundy
This is not a national park or monument, but a national historic landmark. The foundation that runs this provides a great museum and great views of a big hole in the earth caused by flying space rock. The museum has a great level of detail regarding the geological effects of the impact. Be sure to take a moment to look at the petrified Rock outside of the museum and to snap a picture through the picture frame wall that looks to the west.
Len M
Expensive $25 buy with it to see the only preserved meteorite crater.
Terry Adams
Cool place, pretty pricey though. I expected a fee but not $25 per person lol. It's neat and worth checking out.
Lee Speer
Very cool natural landmark in Arizona. Educational and fun to boot. Would definitely recommend a visit if you've never been.
Lynda Fulks
What a fun adventure! It's so dang windy, you can't really enjoy the view but the video, friendly staff, and gift shop make up for it. The staff warns you how windy it will be and they share an informative video every 30minutes. Along with the couple other offerings, you spend a good amount of time for the price paid to learn and see for yourself the history of the crater. I would recommend stopping if it's on your travel path!
karen briggs
So much information to learn: fascinating! We went on the guided tour ( last one of the day but we were not rushed through at all) and our guide was awesome, fun, and answered each and every question thoroughly.
David Walker
You really can't tell the size of this by the pictures. This is a must see. I didn't catch the movie, but the museum part is really nice as well as how they have things set up.
Chanaka Hettige
The visitor center offer a wide range of information on how this site became the frontrunner of impact research and how it started right here. The information sometime contradict each other especially vs the documanrary they show and the QnA that follows. But a well throughout place.
smiley b
This place is amazing ..also good for field trips..my niece and nephews loved it, there was much to see and learn ❤️ would so recommend and the employees are incredible amazing ❤️
T
Super awesome place. A must if you are into space. Kid friendly.
Cynthia Brito
We stopped by on our way from Flagstaff and had a very fun time. Learned a lot about the creator and can't wait to see the live stream when space x will be there
Maria S
Great selection of curiosities available, couple of clearance racks in place (my fav! 😊) a little pricey for my wallet but still made a purchase within my budget so there is something for everyone.
William Burgess
Nice distraction from a long drive to Las Vegas. the cost was surprisingly high given this is a national landmark. I assume there is some funding from public sources so I expect a little lower price. I was supposed to learn of the history with the space program and I found this part exciting. I recommend the longer guided tour and that is given every hour.
Devin Estrada
Great experience and a must stop for space and meteor lovers. If you don't understand how large the craters are you definitely get a full scope.
I also grabbed some fossils while there as well.
A Lyons
Worth the drive here and the $22 per person. Super windy but pretty cool. We spent about 2 hours here looki g around, watchi.g the movie and in the gift shop.
Mike Whitney
Well worth visiting for all ages.. amazing movies. Bring the children.
Michele Schumann
Interesting place. They have a nice museum. The 4D attraction was so cheesy it was laughable. But we weren't traveling with kids. A kid probably would have liked it. The gift shop was typical touristy stuff. We didn't eat at the restaurant. Worth a stop just to have a place to get out of the car for an hour. We paid $22 per person. The senior & kids price was less. That price included the movie, the 4D movie/"ride" thing and the museum.
Leticia M. Jáuregui Casanueva
The museum is worth a visit and the Crater is amazing to experience and see. Plus the drive in has fun signs all around!
Brick Owens
I like the nuts and bolts about what happened and what remains. Very good descriptions and sign panels. The land actually flipped over on itself. Some interactive displays allow visitors to design their own meteor size, direction, and speed. You can destroy a planet, not necessarily Earth. There is an elevator to minimize the steps up to the crater edge then if you decide, a few steps outside to a highpoint.
Tasha D
An amazing experience! Not to missed, and well worth the admission. Includes a small exhibit, a tour, and a gift shop.
Avery Woodmansee
Amazing how huge the crater really is. Very neat museum with cool interactive attractions. Whole thing is well maintained. Fun for the whole family.
Kristin Peterson
Fun stop in a long highway, great collection of fun/silly stuff in the gift shop. A but pricey, but also has a museum/learning area which is fun.
Yusimy Maestri
The price per person is a bit high but another one of those places to visit while traveling. All the staff was very pleasant and even gave us AAA discount without having one so we could save a couple of bucks.
Christopher Lee
Amazing and enormous meteor crater and really good information. Note: the "4d experience" is tailored for very young children.
Ali DeGoerge
A bit expensive to see a hole, but as long as you take your time to view the museum and read everything, it's more than worth it!
Marc Albert
A fun place to visit. It's a shame you can't actually hike into the crater but they have an informational movie and a museum. For an extra $5 they have a 4D theater with an amusing trip to an asteroid belt that's geared towards children. There is a free tour along the crater's edge too.
Ginger Turner (DingyRed)
The meteor crater is a fabulous look at science and history. A meteor hit the earth, exploded and made a big divet. I was quite surprised at the size of the hole. There are several vantage points to observe inside and outside of the museum. A gift store on site for purchasing trinkets, tshirts and various other items. Price is steep. $22...
Angela Cottingham
Took the family on our way through AZ and my son loved it. Seeing the crater was a trip. The gift shop was full of neat pieces and was super affordable.
Mario Arribas
Awesome place. Worth the trip. The crater itself is breath taking. Well paved path and stairs to all the interesting oudoor spots. Eve though we didn't walk the rim, we got to view points right at the edge of it. For the outdoor part of this experience, bring hat and wear sun-screen. The indoor part has AC. A lot of interesting info. There is a movie that explains a lot about this historic landmark. Restrooms are clean. Guides are very nice and helpful. Ample parking lot. Grat gift shop. Easy access from the highway. A must-see while in this part of Arizona.
Dale Phurrough
Amazing natural geography, reminder that we are not the center of the universe, focused compact museum. Definitely take the guided tour.
wei zhang
Good place in a large nowhere. The visitor center is however well designed. The color matches well with environment. The big window-like opening is terrific.
Laura Botkin
Very interesting! We went during COVID-19 so the gift shop was limited to only a few people at a time so we did not go in. The theaters were also closed. They did do the guided walking tour though and it was very interesting!
Damon Jorde
Incredible! Hard to believe that this 1 mile wide, 550 ft deep hole was created by a 150 ft space rock 50000 years ago. A little pricey ($22 per person, veterans 1/2 price, spouse $2 off), with some of the features not even in operation (presumably due to Covid). Not much to do other than hike to different viewpoints.
Darron Poulsen
This short excursion off the 40 Fwy was worth the detour. Adults and kids greatly enjoyed the center.
Nick Wasilewski
Third time here. Always cool to being the kids and get pictures of them and the meteor crater as they get older. We used the pet kennel this time and had a pleasant experience. Half off for veterans and free for active duty.
Kim Buschelman
This is a great place to visit. The fees were a little steep. But, we enjoyed ourselves. If you bring kids they will enjoy the learning experience. Facility is very well maintained.
LindaNJeff Kapovich (Happy Kapies)
This place was amazing!!!! We learned so much about space and the earth. We learned about history and rocks. We had a great lunch at Subway and the staff was so friendly.
Gary Perkins
Very educational and interesting history of the crater. The crater, itself, is awesome to see. Well worth the visit!
Nicolas PC
Major natural site and interesting, but the passage required by the visitor center / museum fee makes the visit indigestible because very expensive for the services and the exhibition offered
Damage, but it's too much money pump
Other parks or natural sites have to better services and are cheaper
The entrance fee is exaggerated, especially if you come with family 😬
Rochelle Cadabuna-Paraiso
Such a nice place to visit. It's not a state park now a national park so entrance is a little bit pricey. They have a top notch, state of the art exhibit that is really interesting and would catch your attention. They also have a souvenir shop and a subway. I nice view of Humphrey's peak can be seen right in front of the souvenir shop.
Otto's Channel.
A bit on the expensive side to look at a hole in the ground. But if you have kids the museum portion would be fantasic for them to enjoy.
Rene Meinel
Very interesting Place and good 3D Show
Aaron Perreault
Such an awesome place. Way cooler than we all expected. The meteor crater is pretty spectacular. Nice gift shop. Plenty to learn and see.
Rob Hurst
Our tour guide was very informative. The museum was educational and the movie theater was fun. We had a nice time.
Jeremiah Agnes
Would give 5 stars but I felt like it was a little expensive to see for a family of 4. We paid $78 to visit. The facility was in great and clean condition. The staff was friendly and helpful. The gift store is a typical tourist trap. Its worth the stop and visit but don't suffer the same sticker shock as me and Google the prices before you stop and visit.
Andy Herzman
Amazing how big it is! Admission includes guided tour, movie ride, and exhibit.
Jennifer Jennifer
I studied Archeology and Geology in University so hence the dress. What a treasure highly recommend.
Scott Kelley
Wow! Crazy big crater! Tour was cool, pretty interactive activities for all ages. A neat place to visit which makes you realize how small we really are in the universe!
Angelo
Great fun for the family, and absolutely a joy for anyone interested in space. The view is breathtaking, and definitely so.ethinf you have to see in person.
brian campbell
Incredible site so much to see and do for all ages young and old. Would be a great destination for field trips
Dominic Jacobo
Great place to learn about the crater. The short, 10 minute movie is a great way to introduce the crate prior to going out and seeing it for yourself. The museum is also a great way to learn about other impacts around the globe.
Johnny Jones
Nice stop on Route 66. Great interactive museum. The view is nice and there is rim tours. A little pricey but they do have military discounts.
Donna Buono
Nice stop from Flagstaff to Winslow. Spent 2 hours and enjoyed the view of the meteor crater.
marc cerilli
50,000 years ago a meteorite made impact here.
Darin McLeskey
Worth the drive from Phoenix, I was really surprised at the weather and snow, however!
Eve B
This was interesting to visit, kind of pricey 18 just to walk in the door (they do have a triple A and military discount). Gift shop was dangerous hahaha. If you have kids, the 4d movie is fun. The tour is an hour with a mile walk, but there is a do it yourself area also.
Danielle Cooley
Always wanted to see this and was not disappointed. Didn't do the guided tour due to how hot it was and not everyone in our group was up for it, but still went to the different viewing levels. Glad I watched the movie because it gives you a better idea of how huge the crater is - looking at it you would never guess how many football fields would fit down there, but the movie tells you. Very cool visit!
Austin Emberlin
Really cool experience but $22 a person is a bit much for this. I would not say this is a must see stop but it is pretty cool. Had to get the virtual geocache here.
Nicholas Hood
Any place like this deserves a five star rating. It’s one of a kind, even if it is just a hole in the ground. I’d you’re a science or natural world buff then you’ll love it. They have a lot more than just the crater itself to experience the cool and weird of this place. You do have to pay to get in, but it’s worth it!
Erik Antelman
It's a private site so it will cost about $20 to get it. However, it's a very cool one of a kind place on the planet so if you know how special that is it's worth it.
Leah Kershaw
Great stop on a roadtrip. The Museum was very informative and interactive. Too many great views to take photos from. Wear your walking shoes there are lots of stairs!
Dave Aley
This was a worthwhile stop. The crater is just what you might expect, an impressively big hole in the ground. The guide tour was interesting, though the guide was less knowledgeable about the geology than I would have expected. The museum is first-rate, with lots of very well-done displays.
Levi Ervin
We had such a great time, learned a lot in the short time we were there. Loved it. Great for all ages and very accommodating.
Cat G
This is getting 4 stars not because it not immaculately kept but because it costs $18 for adults and it felt like there really wasn’t much for adults. I think it was around $7 for teens and free for 6 and under. The bathrooms were perfectly clean. The gift shop had tons of interesting touristy things to buy if you want a souvenir. Everyone there was very friendly. I might have bought a souvenir if the entry was less. The museum part was informative and maybe more interesting if you’re really into the Apollo tests because the capsule is there as well. Helpful reminders: protect your ears and your kids ears, that wind is intense and painful. My ears hurt for about 15 minutes after we went to the edge of the crater. Make sure to have a coat or a windbreaker and hold on to the railing. The 80 mph winds almost took the door off our big truck. Be careful with your hats and sunglasses. Lastly but pretty important (PETS), there was a pet remada. Our pups were able to have a private fenced off area to take a break. But bring your own bags.
Mike Southland
This is a must see if you are in the area. Plan to commit a couple of hours to this, if you are a history enthusiast. Although the gift shop is ridiculously expensive, the rest of the place is amazing. Our tour guide was Brandon and he was absolutely phenomenal. He really knows his stuff and we learned a lot. I look forward to watching the SpaceX astronauts train in the crater.
Lisa LaFo
Really amazing thing to see... definitely a short stop but to actually see the crater and walk through the museum was a fantastic way to spend an hour off the beaten path!
James Bristol
The Meteor crater being such an amazing sight to behold, would obviously require a fantastic visitors center to help inform and direct visitors. The building itself is in fine condition and well maintained. The gift shop inside is well put together and the prices are decent for an attraction of this size. There are various exhibits to walk around and take in either before or after you visit the catwalks built in to the side and top of the crater. Some visitors may find it a bummer that they cannot go down until the crater so there as an area with a large poster of the bottom of the crater so you can take a selfie. A little cheesy but humorous and the effect is actually pretty good. There is also a theater with a short movie that explains some of the history of the crater and the land surrounding it and there is also a decent sized chunk of the actual meteor on display in the center of the building that you can actually touch and photograph up close. I believe they did a fantastic job on this visitors center and feel it will serve and educate the people visiting this site for years to come.
Lisa Kasper
Very cool spot, but very overpriced. $22 for adult admission to look at a crater. Here, take a gander for free!
G Uri
Was fun and very educational. We took the guided tour and very glad we did. Gave us a lot of information and a good demonstration on how the creator was created and the different layers of rocks. NASA is also takes part of the educational training they have here. We recommend people stop by and take a tour.
Tonya Myers
Very good visitor center for the Crater. A bit pricey to enter, but this is not a National or State park, so that is understandable.
Veronica Ann
Took our little one as we were passing through!! We absolutely loved it there so much to do & learn about
Jason Detmer
This was a great stop. We were expecting a Crater and not much else. We were pleasantly surprised to see there is a space museum, guided tours, area history, a 4d ride that is great for the kids. They also had a kennel area for family pets (not sure if they accept animals other than dogs). This was worth the stop.
Dan Penton
Visitor center was a little outdated however they are in the process of building a new addition. Need to offer some type of guided tour for visitors who cannot do the 1 mile walking tour.
Elizabeth Heaslet
Beautiful! Knowledgeable employees and tour guides. It's impressive, you should definitely go!
Brandi Taranto
Crazy cool to see this and not on TV.. I highly recommend
Jeremiah Pitts
Amazing crater and cool museum. I highly recommend.
Dino aroundtheworld
Very nice staff and great visit.
Stephanie Skarren
Lots of cool information in the museum. The views from the crater are amazing.
Lynne Price
Impressive. Enjoyed the video with rabbit pilot, exhibits were interesting, didn't have enough time to visit museum, or spend more time viewing exhibits so would like to return another time. Guides helpful, place was clean. Plenty of parking, parking for rvs available. Wind was very strong that day, had to lean into it to walk.
Naveen Kanukuntla
The view point of the impact Crater was breathtaking. Come here only if you are into celestial objects. The theatre at the Crater display a 10 min video of how the Crater formed. Good to see if you did not know how the Crater formed. You could touch and feel the Meteor on display at the Meteor center.
Sundar Muthusamy
Fascinating piece of geology. Even my 5 year old was fascinated.
I would say slightly expensive for what is there and the time you spend there. But definitely worth a visit.
Tony Baugh
At least it was open
Great view from the top
A little pricey at $22 a person

I loved the museum and I'm just still so amazed at how large the area really is. Definitely worth the stop and the views were incredible.
Rosslyn Akers
Very cool experience. This crater is HUGE. There is an indoor gift shop and museum/educational area. I recommend the 4D movie for children. The movie is geared towards kids/teens. It's still fun to sit through, but kind of expensive.
All indoor areas are wheelchair accessible. The outside area around the crater is not. There are several different viewing places. Keep small children close. There are lots of steps. There is also a lot of wind.
Be sure to check out the lower viewing area to get a close-up view of the middle of the crater with viewing telescopes.
There are tours but I did not go on one.

Awesome! And only 5 miles off I-40 between Winslow and Flagstaff, Arizona!
Justin Stratton
Cool place to see. Glad we stopped. Close to highway, easy walk to see it. Can walk around the crater if you want to
Mike Scherback
Incredible place. So worth the visit. Definitely learned a lot.
John Ellsworth
Amazing site...thought it was just a crater in the ground...man was I wrong. This is a really well setup site for kids, families, and information sponges. There is such a wealth of knowledge that was super interesting and well laid out.
Joseph Piccirillo
Very knowledgeable staff. Gave interesting presentation on the history of this crater. Fun place to visit with children. Lots of hands on exhibits.
Lea Peterson
Worth the cost of entry, a very informative museum, and the 4-D movie was fun!
Debs Hunter
Very informative...great place to visit!
Lacey Johnson
A great family experience. Access was good, even for handicap persons. Liked the interactive museum inside. Not to far out of the way. Parking was easy and free. Thought that the admission was a little expensive.
Carey Crane
Really interesting place to visit and the seer magnitude of the crater is insane!!! It's a must see!!
Janet Rachel
You can get in for half price with a DOD ID. I didn’t see it advertised at the center but it was on the web site. Nice center. They have a video then a one mile crater rim tour after. Hold on to your hats! It can be very windy!!
Merrett Willett
Privately run which makes for a much better experience but also more expensive. Overall I'd say it was worth it and our guide for the crater (must have one) was good. Has decent movie and a good kid 4d ride.
Duane Lewis
Super interesting. So we went to check it out. Short drive off freeway it was totally worth going to check out. Will never see anything like it anywhere else. Nice buildings and gitf shop and friendly staff. Go check it out if your going by there. Sure wish I could have used my drone there.
Keith Arthur
The crater is very cool to see but the visitors center in general lacked a lot of educational value about the history of the area when the impact occurred, what the atmosphere might have been like, how loud the sound might have been, etc.. the 4D movie is very cheesy, my kids got some entertainment from it but I wish they had connected it back to the actual crater and again, the history or science of meteors and craters.
The Apollo test capsule was very cool to see. I’m not sure it was worth the price of admission, but this was something I’d wanted to see since I was a kid and learned about it in elementary school.
Ismail Muminov
You won’t regret it. Spare 1-3 hours and you will definitely love it
Andrea Amos
Ok place to visit. The cost was $22 per person. Veteran discount if you ask for it. If you've never seen a crater, then stop here.
Kansas Paranormal
Very fun to see this! Glad we stopped!!
jAnthony Perez
Great place to visit, check out exhibits!
Ron Kropf
The immense size and scale of this event, staggers the imagination and leaves one in total awe!!!!
garry mclaughlin
Very nice place to visit just a lot of stairs I suggest you take the Elevator if you can and be careful FO have a lot of steps going up to the observation deck observation deck it would have been nice if it just would have made it a flat surface flat service where you to walk just walk up-and-down to get to the observation center well that it aint lovely spectacular viewspectacular views I suggest you go check it out for yourself thinking
C Pace
Very awesome place to visit and loved the museum as well. I was educated.
Lisa Greer
My husband and I enjoyed the tour. It’s very impressive; everyone should see this. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly.
Dian Farmer
Great experience, lots to see and do.
Heather Davis
Really breathtaking! To see something so massive you realize how small we really are. A great museum and gift shop to visit as well.
Gerard Sullivan
Definitely worth a visit and seeing video before seeing the crater. Expensive though at $22, not sure they have a family discount which they should have.
Diane Marie Farden
WE HAD A LOT OF FUN. FAMILY TIME. PRICELESS
Lavonna Skeans
Worth a stop if you have never been. Really impressive. Kinda pricey. 24 dollars per person.
Mimi Rivera
Very cool. Heard about at The Griffith's Park Observatory in LA, CA. Do the tour.
Andrew
This place was awesome to visit, but the crater was pretty cool to see, the telescopes were free for visitors to look through and feature telescopes fixated on points of interest in the "crater".
they offer military discounts, so if you are a veteran or active-duty remember to ask for it at the counter, it is not outlined on their price posters anywhere!
Jacob Jones
I that at first, that $22 per person was a little steep but my family and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Spent several hours there...
The Den of Tools
This is a really cool place and definitely somewhere you want to take the kids. I was surprised to find out that it was privately owned and not a national park. Entrance fee for two adults and two kids was $72, which I feel was a bit steep. Facilities are nice but I'll be honest the informational movie was pretty cheesy and not all that information
Jim Wilson
If you're a fan of the movie starman you have to stop there. As you pull off the highway the geodesic dome building that was the cafe at the end of the movie is also there. It's a gas station now. To get to see the crater it's $18 per adult.

Amazing just took my kids they loved it I went as a kids 30 years ago
