Reviews of Museum of the American Revolution
Andre McMahon
This is the best American Revolution museum I’ve ever been to because if it’s mix of things to read, listen too, watch, look at and interact with. The layout of the building is perfect because there is a grand entrance with a beautiful staircase and then you enter a room. You loose track of where you are in the walls of the museum because the exhibits is a big timeline and every major event has its own room. I could spend days in this museum with its mix of modern and old ways of learning and presentation. Genuine artifacts and paints such as Washington’s tent, and great performances and documentaries. To sum it up I absolutely love this museum and it is perfect to visit directly after Independence Hall so that you can learn about the events that took place where you previously were!
Randi Steffler
The experience was wonderful, and my son and I now have a family membership! The Cross Keys Cafe didn't have period-inspired food as stated, but the lunch was satisfactory regardless and the cashier was very polite. The Museum itself was so inspiring and was full of artifacts and antiques, with a lot of deep information. The artwork was breath-taking. Unfortunately I was late for something else so we had to stop just shy of seeing Washington's War Tent, but we'll be back soon for that! Definitely no time wasted here, it's something you would need multiple trips to fully enjoy, and it really is worth it.
Ethan Lindstrom
Great museum! The main exhibition hall tells the story arc of the revolution, with short movies interspersed throughout. There are some items for kids to touch and some interactive display panels, but it is mostly displays (pictures, artifacts, and text).
The whole thing is framed to show that while the revolutionary war ended, the 'American Revolution' continues today as we collectively grapple with what the role of government should be and what it means that "all men are created equal".
The displays are very nice and highlight the history we know well, and also many individual stories and perspectives not as well known (including women, African Americans, and Native Americans).
We also had lunch at the Cafe, and the food was good and the prices reasonable (better/cheaper than most museum cafes we been to).
JC Olson
Very nice museum, lots of good historical items inside and a range of things for young and old to learn. The day I went there was a Native American song and dance going on right at the entrance and they were very nice. This facility has many other events that go on throughout the year I was told and all the staff were friendly and knowledgable. I would recommend this museum if you have an hour or two in the city.

I went to 10, yes 10, museums in Philadelphia over MLK Day Weekend 2022. This was by far my favorite! This Museum was recently built, and is beautiful both inside and out. The exhibits are well made, interesting, and Interactive. They have a collection of artifacts that you can't see anywhere else. My only regret is not spending more time there. The sights were cool, but staff are the real gems. You can ask almost anyone about the artifacts or displays and they will be able o give you more information. The shining star was Kaitlin, who shared background on her favorite pieces in the downstairs gallery. I'm not really even a history person, but her passion for the artwork was contagious. Thanks for an amazing explanation, girl! 👍🏾
Rahel Asefa
The variety of things including videos, sounds, paintings, puzzles, and more and how they tried to represent a ‘real feel’ and its interactive nature was extremely impressive. It’s a great and informative place to visit and my interactions with the staff was wonderful. They are well versed in the history, were ready to answer any questions and were super helpful.

This is an amazing museum! You must see the video in the main room detailing the history of George Washington's tent in the war against England where they show you the actual tent at the end of the show! It was quite moving. I highly recommend it 👌 👍 …
Steven Kraft
Very good museum with a lot of care, and work placed into it's presentations, displays, and artifacts. The museum goes into great depth to discuss the war itself, the role of the founders, but also the roles of Women, African-Americans, Native Americans, and the British, Loyalist, and French. Giving fair perspectives from all. I especially liked the exhibit at the end which features actual, real-life photographs of the veterans and their stories. A must visit museum in Philly!
Sara Beth Wade
This is a really well-done museum with an easy-to-follow chronological path to follow. There are several theatrical elements, including animations to watch or stories played out on repeat. In fact, you can start your tour with a 15 minute movie downstairs, and there's an actual theater upstairs with the museum's prize item, Washington's camp tent from the revolutionary war. There's a whole theatrical presentation to that and a big reveal, it's fun. There's also a big gift shop and a cafe, it's well worth a visit!
Joe Connolly
Wonderful exhibit. So many artifacts, portraits, arms, books and relics pertaining to the Revolution. Getting to see General George Washington actual war tent was definitely a hilite. All of the short films throughout the exhibit as well as the films in the two theaters were fantastic
Brenda Becker
First-rate presentation of the American story; important tough questions about our country's founding are faced candidly and with scholarship and perspective, not "woke" clichés. The exhibits are a great hybrid of classic diorama and technology, with plenty to engage kids. And the Washington's tent film and reveal is deeply moving--thrilling, actually. Make a day of it, with a lunch break at Sonny's cheese steaks a few blocks away!
Ian Wilt
I'm not much of a history buff, but I found this museum pretty engaging. I went with a group of history classmates here, and we had fun. The exhibits were really cool, I especially liked the clay figures they had on display around the main exhibit. They're incredibly realistic. If you're interested in history, I'd definitely recommend here.
Nicole Leonard
Not my favorite museum I've ever been to. There were some pretty cool artifacts and the exhibit was quite big. But it just felt like it was more of a place for a school field trip than two adults with no kids.
Veena Choudary
Highly recommend this stop!
Very, very well done. So much to see and learn. The kids do get a little tired but even then it’s worth the stop. The best part is that the tickets are good for the next day as well which helps when the kids are overloaded with history. :) You can go back.
The educators and allied staff are all very, very helpful. It is obvious that they work there because they love history and what the war represents. Everyone was cheerful, forthcoming and willing to share. Several of them were dressed in period costumes and walking around the displays to answer questions. The exhibits are breathtaking and the level of detail is excellent. The drummer was very, very good.
You can buy tickets online. We ended up getting there much earlier than expected and they were very accommodating.
The facilities are very clean with plenty of sanitizer stations everywhere- lots of exhibits to touch. The building itself is spectacular.
The art exhibit was very good too. Vivid colors and lots of details.
Highly recommend attending the screening of George Washington’s Tent. The introduction screening on the first floor is also very helpful to orient yourself.
We will be back for our second day visit and to check out the gift shop as well.
Stefani Wade
Nice museum that I wish we would've had more time at but they close at 5pm and we had already had a full day. Enjoyed the reenactment. Lots to see.
Anthony O'Connell-Gros
Great museum that enables you to learn a lot about the United States and its history and how it came to be. Unfortunately a lot of information is repeated multiple times and it can get annoying reading the same stuff multiple times. I recommend buying online as it is slightly cheaper.
Kelz Breezy
Honestly one of the best museums experience I have had. Truly amazing to learn about so many things our educational system has left out of our textbooks. The staff is truly amazing blessed with knowledge and are so helpful while answering questions.
Such a wonderful place!!
Ray McCarthy
Loved this museum, though we were a bit tired by the time we took this in. Very well designed with artistic exhibits that incorporated some really nice technology, like giant interactive displays. We are definitely scheduling another visit!
Scott Perdue
Museum with some pretty neat artifacts like George Washington’s sword. I went as part of the all-inclusive Go City pass, which enabled me to visit almost all the museums in the city. This was one of the better ones, but my favorite was the Franklin Institute.
Mary Evans
Wonderful museum. Loved the artist traveling exhibit and movie with Washington's tent.
Steven Wilson
I am a big fan of museums that have a story to tell and take you through chronologically. I am also a huge fan of stories told from both sides. You get all of this and more at this well thought out and interesting look at the American Revolution. If you do it right and take the time to see all of the movies and exhibits it will take you over two hours to see everything that this museum has to offer. Something as simple as a viewing of general Washington's actual war tent is presented in a way that brings you nearly to tears with amazement and respect. I hope to find more museums like this one in my travels. If you are a lover of history and the colonial period this is a must see attraction.
ComradVibes
This museum goes surprisingly into depth about the American Revolution with an enormous amount of artifacts with notes and videos relating to the artifacts. There is also an inclusion of the contributions of African-Americans and Native-Amerixans to the war. The Staff are very nice here and help explain the information or answer questions.
Joe Connolly
Wonderful experience. The exhibit has hundreds of relics, books, arms and portraits pertinent to the time. There are several short films throughout, detailing aspects of the Revolution & the brave and courageous Revolutionaries themselves. The involvement and effect of the war on native Americans & the global impact the war had is examined.
Obviously hilited is General George Washington and you even get to see his personal war tent, incredibly preserved even after almost 250 years.
I also must mention the dozen or so staff, all of whom were helpful, friendly and informative 👍
Simon Kingsnorth
Great museum. Really good cinema and film. Nice painting exhibition. But the main tour stood out as something special. A lot of detail and some very well put together displays and models. A very interesting way to spend a couple of hours.
Isabella Tiger
The museum is amazing is you love history. There are many scenes put into place, and many different artifacts. Some of the staff were even dressed like the time period! Just beware, the café prices are a bit high.
Donald Hower
This museum is chuck full of riveting exhibitions that will ignite & invoke any and all patriots or fans of American History! The theaters are immersive! The exhibitions are well diversified for example: (some include details mostly aimed at G. Washington's early escapades and military career, others may detail Liberty Tree's, early colonization, rebellion against British Taxes, Colonial Spies, etc. etc. You will not leave disappointed!
Wendy Albright
This is a MUST VISIT if you come to Philadelphia. Absolutely in love with the experience including the amazing staff
susan creighton
Incredibly impressive!!!! A must for history lovers!!! The educators are so splendid, knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly. The displays are wonderful, especially the interactive ones. We spent 5 hours there and loved every single minute of it!!!! There is so much I learned about the extraordinary start of this country, the good and bad. A special shout out to Katie in the Cross Keys Café, one of the nicest people I ever met! Can't wait to go back!!!
Angela Shanken
Very educational! Nicely put together exhibits and short films throughout. A bit disappointing that the gallery on the first floor was closed until next year(Feb 2023). Lovely giftshop and place to eat on site.
Linda Duncan
I came here sometime ago with a friend my daughter and my granddaughter. It was during the Hamilton exhibit and my granddaughter loved dressing up in colonial clothing and carrying her little Hamilton doll around town with her. I think it truly helped her feel that history was real and inspired her
Emma Maurel
An excellent museum. Beautiful scenery, a simple and efficient way to Travel through the American Revolution.
Staff is passionnate, extremely nice and joyful ! They'll take you with them on this beautiful journey, full of discussion and modern displays.
Battle reconstitutions, uniforms, artefacts, everything to let you wonder about History !
Nick Satin
I say this not having been to any of the Smithsonian museums in years, but this is easily my favorite museum. We've only gone the one time, part of the sneak peak before it officially opened, but oh my, it's incredible. The only reason we haven't returned is because our kids are too young. Just an utterly sublime experience here. Admittedly, I teach history, but my wife was just as captivated by it as I was. It's a museum you definitely want to plan multiple trips for, as there's simply so much to see you likely won't see it all in one go. Really, I cannot say enough good things about the place. Some of the exhibits are constant, others are rotated out and in, so you'll see something new no matter how many times you visit. The food court is a bit pricey (but what museum cafeteria isn't) but surprisingly good. The historical actors were hilarious too (in a good way).
Gerrit Hamilton
Just a quick jaunt from Independence Hall. Very thorough, very informative, with tons of artifacts and history to soak in.
Pierce Jones
A comprehensive modern museum dedicated to telling the story of American independence. Great for a family outting and a hidden gem in Phillys historic district. Washingtons war tent is a must see presentation.
Louis Soler
Great for school trips! The guides were very very informative, the information fun and educational. There was a room where the students got to look for codes, kind of like an escape room, where they acted like revolutionaries sending codes to meet. There was wax figures and we even saw Washington's tent!
Andrew Lloyd-Green
This museum is one of the best I have been to in years. It was strongly recommended by some of my friends who are local historians and professors to me and it did not disappoint! The combination of various informative and teaching techniques such as interactive exhibits and written materials and videos made it fun and interesting to people of all ages and degrees of knowledge about the American Revolution.
Davis Lau
I can’t stress how great it is to have this museum in the birthplace of our nation! So much info and great exhibits. The architecture is not bad either! The curators have so much knowledge and are enthusiastic in explaining our nations history.
Also, the visit is worth just checking out Washington’s tent alone!
Kev C
This is an excellent museum. If you are interested in learning about the American Revolution, then this is a must see attraction in Philadelphia. There were many beautiful exhibits and displays and short films to keep you interested for a few hours. If you enjoy going at your own pace, which I recommend, then do not do the guided tour. Make sure you visit all the displays and shows and you will not be disappointed. After you are done with the museum there are many other historical attractions and restaurants nearby within walking distance.
Alex Woodruff
Much bigger than I thought it would be. Very well detailed, informative and thought out. Truly puts Americas beginnings in perspective and will enrich your soul. They also have an exhibit showcasing George Washingtons tent that he used throughout the war (often cited as the "1st Oval Office". Very interesting and very well done in its presentation. Highly recommend.
Craig Buffington
This was a great experience, very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. The museum has a great flow from beginning to end of the Revolutionary War, and has great stories throughout.
Jordan Brian
I love capturing Museum of the American Revolution weddings! It is In the heart of Old City right next to the First Bank of the United states & The Merchant Exchange building. The venue is amazing with the incredible terrace that overlooks the city! Also Brulee is the caterer so you absolutely will have the tastiest food in Philly! I love working here and can't wait to get back. Call Tori there she is the best!
J VG
Beautiful Museum that encompasses the American Revolution, a flag room containing original designs of the many 13 star flags, enlightening movies that fully explained how the French and Spanish helped the colonists win the war. I was there for 3 hours and didn't stop to read every depiction under people's faces or under the flags. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very clean, the employees were very polite and helpful, and the information was very enlightening. George Washington's tent that he actually stayed in when he accompanied his troops on the battlefields was revealed. An American treasure of the American Revolution.
Check with your library to see if they offer free passes to this Museum. Mercer County Library in New Jersey does. A great savings!
John Turner
Very solid, moving experience and highly recommend for those looking to learn more about this important period of U.S. history. Excellent for ages 5-99. A lot of interactive, well presented historical material with multi-media "films" and real-life recreations to immerse visitors in the time, place and people of the revolution.
Andrew Bowers
Great companion experience to Philadelphia's amazing and nearby revolutionary era historical monuments and national parks. This relatively new museum makes perfect sense in Philly, sitting just blocks from Independence Hall where the declaration that launched the war was signed and proclaimed. Visiting Independence National Historic Monument, MotAR and then the Constitution Center makes for a great three day weekend in Philadelphia's old city immersed in history and surrounded by great restaurants and shops. Only problem is if you leave after three days you'll still not have been able to see all of the other excellent nearby museums and culture.
This weekend we finally made our first trip to the MotAR. We were drawn in by the "Hamilton was Here" special exhibit, itself capitalizing on the current Hamilton cultural moment. It worked on us and we are embracing "The Year of Hamilton" it would seem. While we enjoyed the Hamilton exhibit it was very light on artifacts related to him.
The standard exhibits are much better. Mixing displays of period relics with immersive experiences and an informative and educational staff made it fun for both our kids and me their history buff dad. It strikes a good balance between a staid classic museum and a more modern style trying to keep the attention of the kids. We also appreciated that the museum goes to pains to tell the story of the plight of enslaved Africans and the no win situation the war created for Native Americans. These are important stories of the American Revolution that are sometimes ignored in flag waving jingoism prevalent in many retelling of it's history.
There is little doubt that this is a great museum. If there was a third floor we would have stayed an entire day, but otherwise a three hour visit will let you experience everything, including the kid oriented 'Revolutionary Place' in the basement. $21 for adults, $13 for kids over 5.

We had a luxury to visit the museum on a first snow day in Philadelphia; for the first 30 minutes we probably were the only people in the museum. Great exhibits, impressive setup, lots of history. I enjoyed every moment of it. The gift shop is reasonably priced and has many interesting books. My 2nd grader liked the weapons and Tent.
mullbk
Can still tell it is new. Great layout and signs everywhere telling you to touch everything. Make sure you see the movie about Washington’s tent. You will also get to see the tent. Extremely well done in all phases. Spent 1 1/2 but could have easily spent 3. Enjoy!
Kent Pitman
They have done a great job presenting history in an appealing way to all age groups. Make excellent use of media to fill in interesting topics that reinforce the over-all story of the Revolution. Plan on spending an absolute minimum of 3 hours to see exhibits and videos. One feature I really liked: our tickets allowed us to go out for lunch & then return to resume going through the exhibits. It was a nice break in our group's visit. Well worth the visit!
Michael Flinn
Brought my 17 yo history loving son to this museum. He left saying he had never felt so patriotic. The video presentations are wonderful. Washington’s Tent and Brandywine Battle. Many important historical artifacts. I recommend this new museum. Couldn’t disagree more with Nancy review below.
Ellie Torres
We just finished learning about the American Revolution in our homeschool and thought this would be a great experience. 5 kids (9, 10, 11, 12, 12, 13) and I had a great time. They enjoyed their time at the museum, specially because they were provided 2 scavenger hunts they were determined to complete. They had sooo much fun for almost three hours! I must say that I was pleased with the staff here. Specifically with Candice P. She engaged the kids right away and had their full attention. She gave us all the info we needed to make our time here extra fun. She definitely has the patience and attitude for families with small children. She was super nice! She also provided me with material to teach at home. How awesome is that! Adding these resources to lesson plans as we speak. Thank you Candice for being a Rockstar! The kids thought you were super cool. The museum is beautiful inside and out. It is well maintained. The souvenir shop is great as well! The kids enjoyed picking things out in the shop. We hope to be back in the near future as the kids have asked to come back.
Sarah Robinson
I took the family to the Museum of the American Revolution for the first time in June. We went specifically to view the collection of 13-starred American flags. The exhibit itself was great, but I enjoyed the remainder of the Museum even more! The final portion of the exhibit is really touching and well put together. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop at the end! They have some great collectibles and books to purchase.
Alexandrea Kensinger
Great museum. We went while there were a lot of school groups so it was a bit crowded and we tried to rush through it. Definitely would have been better if we went at a different time.
John Baker
Great museum for American Revolutionary history! Please don't eat at the cafe. The food gross and the service is marginal.
John Manfred
One of the best museums we been too, great for families. The staff here are very helpful and easy to approach. Thank you for playing along with us during our home school lesson with our son.
b krmer
George Washington's tent nuff said. Very organized museum lots of material. If you are a history buff how can you not go here
Michael Zand
Excellent museum. Extremely thorough and detailed oriented. Covers the causes of the revolution starting with the Seven Years War, the actual battles, as well as the Declaration and Constitution. Kept my and my father's interests for hours and we are both history buffs. Very cool original relics including George Washington's full war tent. Might be boring for young kids. Even though it was crowded (day before July 4th) there is ample room as the writing is large and there is lots of different things to read. The museum also covers the war from the perspective of Native Americans, Black Americans and women. I was also very moved by the photographs of war veterans at the end. We don't think of photography when it comes to the Revolutionary War but hundreds of veterans and witness survived into the age of photography.
David Moskowitz
Don't believe the maps about closing time. Summer hours go through 6PM. Excellent presentation of the history of the American Revolution. Give yourself plenty of time. While you might be able to rush through in s couple of hours, don't! We had tickets for 13:30 & took our time got through 1 of the galleries in about 3 hours. We will be back!
Brandi Bee
Well thought out floorplan with very immersive exhibits. Refreshing to see other views of the Revolution, not only your typical high- or mid-level military focus (though they are there). Plan on coming early to see popular items uncrowded, and spend the entire day here if you can.
Peter Duckett
Really interesting and engaging and good for all ages. As brits it was amazing to see the American history presented with such pride whilst not shying away from some of the more challenging parts of history. We'll worth a visit!
Brad Paradis
Let me be clear. It’s a great stop. It has a ton of amazing things to see and experience. I did enjoy the National Constitution center more, but you can combine both at a discount and purchase a dual ticket for each. Do it.
Suzanne Huddleston
We (2 adults) really liked this museum. We learned SO much that no one bothered to teach us in school. If we go back to Philly, we definitely will visit it again. Two suggestions for staff: (1) provide a simple paper map. The ins and outs of the displays were a bit confusing. And (2) I would have loved to see the weights of the various items on the description boards, such as the weights of the muskets, rifles, cannon balls, and especially the swords. A docent let me hold a rifle (Wow! Was it heavy!) and told us all kinds of interesting facts about it. All of the docents were great, BTW!
Konstantinos Rizakos
What an excellent experience!
Witness the story of the American Revolution told in a very intuitive way, looking at the why, what, and how. It is a very meticulously curated museum, with many interactive exhibits and easy to follow videos and materials.
Make sure you visit the ship on the second level, and you attend the exhibit with Washington’s tent!
Stephanie Rolon
Went for Independence Day weekend and it was just a great experience to learn about the foundation of the United States.
Ash Kumar
Astounding interactive awesome! Easily navigable space and can be as short as an hour and as long as 3. It has a lot to go through and does a really great job conveying the history of the American Revolution in a grassroots format.
Petre Ene
A very interesting museum. If you love history or if you are american this place is a must. the store at the first floor has many options for souvenirs. they also have a section for kids. takes two hours to go though the entire museum and read everything. I came to this museum as part of a trip I did visiting the major spots of the american Independence. i start in Boston and I finish it with this museum.
Azea Lopez
Very informative. It was a good trip. Went with my little sister, boyfriend, and friends. Everyone had a good time. Museum took about 3-4 hours to complete. They have a cafe there for food, but we opted to go walk somewhere nearby and come back. Student discounts with ID!
Arnav Bhattacharya
I was stunned by the excellent collection at the Musuem of the American Revolution. Everything is curated so well. The videos help you make sense of the history visible in every corner of the place. This place makes history come alive. I went in knowing nothing about the history of the American Revolution and I can say I definitely learnt a lot from my visit to the musuem. Also the musuem store has a good collection for people wanting to take a souvenir. A must visit in Philly.
Kyle Murphy
The museum you could easily get lost in the history of it. The amount of work shows.. they have wax figures and relics from history such as swords and uniforms and house hold things that everyone can admire
R Letson
Thought provoking learning experience for young and old alike. The movies and interactive exhibits are wonderful. The George Washington tent is a tremendous presentation and artifact. There is a great gift shop as well. This is a beautiful addition to the Independence Park experience!
Justine Rehak
So much information, a surprising number of genuine artifacts, and inclusive of the contributions of women and indigenous Americans to the Revolution. Top notch museum.
Kristi-Lynn Jacovino
Lots of great information and the guides are extremely knowledgeable! Friendly staff all around, seems like everyone really loves working there. They also had a lot of interesting programs even though it's kinda the off-season.
I felt like the transitions between events/exhibits was a little confusing in some parts, but overall I like that it's organized generally by the order of events through the revolution and beyond.
The Hamilton exhibit was also really interesting, but it seemed odd that there wasn't much about the events leading up to his death.. seems like that would be worth mentioning, but there was a ton of great info about his life and his contributions.
Easy one day museum visit, maybe a little high on the price, but overall I enjoyed our visit!
Matt Dambrosio
This is one of the best museums we've ever visited. It's very interactive and really tells a great story of the American Revolution, many aspects of which we'd never heard. Highly recommended.
Anthony Alvarez
It's a really cool museum to visit to learn all about the revolutionary war. It goes over how it started, the war itself, and the end of it. It even goes over how Native Americans and blacks were in the west and how they were treated and their role in it. Seeing George Washington's wartime tent was really cool.
Rocky Cooper
Really impressed by how well done this new Philly museum was, and how friendly and knowledgeable all of the staff were throughout our visit.
I'd have to say that the highlight of our visit was the great video presentation on the 2nd floor (only about 7 minutes runtime) about George Washington's tent - it was noticeably way more impactful than anyone in the audience had initially expected, but I'll save the surprise for you to experience for yourself!
If you're looking for a few great museums to check out while visiting historic Philadelphia, I highly recommend you add this one to your short list!
Fred Alluso
A contemporary museum that highlights the trials and tribulations of the American Revolution. The location in Philadelphia is perfect given the extensive role of the city during the revolution.
The employees at this museum were all awesome hosts. Every employee was helpful and knowledgeable about the exhibits and history of the revolution.
During my impromptu weekend visit, Philadelphia was being invaded by the British. Dozens of actors dressed in vintage uniforms walked about in character and re-enacting scenes of the times.
It was excellent to see General George Washington’s personal tent on exhibit too.
Morgan
A wonderful addition to Philadelphia's collection of historical museums. Its a great place to take younger children who are just learning about US History, to older students and even adults. There are activities downstairs geared towards children and upstairs is a labyrinth of galleries with artifacts and interactive displays, videos and models. The story of the Revolution is told from many different sides which I really appreciated seeing. There's a lot of information (very text heavy) in the museum, so be prepared to stay all day or do it in two days (which your timed passes will allow for) Staff was very kind and willing to share what they knew.
Sam T
The museum was LOADED with information! The museum had a lot of artifacts to match with the information as well. But there wasn't much talk about the contributuons of other cultures such as the Jewish or African American in the process of the Revolution.
Kinnam
The exhibition is just above average. The most valuable stuff to see is the tent⛺ which was allegedly used by George Washington as the headquarters.
I also got 2 bills 💵 of ¹/3 of a dollar (replica),😂 …
Paul Martin
Much more engaging than expected. It is a really well done museum. Excellent multimedia enhanced the experience. And there were lots of activities to engage kids and adults. Make sure to ask lots of questions if you encounter an actor in the boat. She'll trot out lots more demos and stories.
And if you are visiting with children there's more to do in the basement.
Yader Delgado
you will be amazed about the things on display they have in this museum ....you will literally transported to the past ....dont miss out the exhibition of Goerge Washington military tent!!!!!! oh and very nice and helpful staff too
Joshua Wyles
This is a fantastic museum to go to. I love all of the exhibits and information given. The admission prices aren't that bad either. I highly recommend you come here.
Nicole Otero
Very informative and cool museum. The have G. Washington's war tent here on display too, impressive to observe. They include Native contributions in the war as well as the perspectives of soldiers from both sides. Lots of installations as well. Only four rooms but A LOT to see here. They have discounts for teachers and seniors too. Was very dark for pictures but located close to everything for an easy stroll after!
Anna Khachikyan
Today we had a trip to the Museum of the American Revolution with my daughter's class. That was very informative and interesting. The kids were fond of the documentary films shown with special effects. Everything was clean and the guides were very kind and eager to come and tell the kids about history. Overall we were very pleased there.
But we had an unpleasant incident there - when asked to leave the bags and coats in special bins before going to the gallery we couldn't find them on the way back to leave the Museum. It was very frustrating as 60 kids were waiting outside for 20 minutes while the staff could find the bags and coats.

Loved it. $19 admission. They provide a coat room and a locker ($3). I especially liked the Washington's tent and mock boat with cannons displays.

A great find in Philly! Exhibits were really interesting and all the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Even has a great little cafe! For me, it's a "don't miss".

The Museum of the American Revolution is a Philadelphia museum dedicated to telling the story of the American Revolution. The museum was opened to the public on April 19, 2017, the anniversary of the first battle of the war, Lexington and Concord, on April 19, 1775. I didn't have a chance to tour, but would have loved to. I was completely hungover and hot as hell. The gift shop is very nice.
Cynthia Ventura
Attended the last day of, "Hamilton Was Here." Amazing exhibits and educational displays. So many actual items from Hamilton and the Revolutionary period. Many hands-on items for kids and adults to enjoy. Don't miss the Trenton-Princeton Battles display and the Saratoga displays. But the star of the day is the presentation of George Washington's War tent. Don't miss the chance to see this artifact that was Washington's actual tent from Valley Forge, Yorktown and countless other battles and encampments. Takes about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to view the rooms so a great family trip. There's also a cafe and a gift shop.

I don't remember much from school about the American Revolution, and I feel this museum really hit things on point. I would recommend, if you have children, to go with older children who can tolerate reading and walking at a slower pace. There was a lot of reading and not much for young children to interact with. Additional museums are within walking distance which allow you to "make a day" of being in the city.

This museum is only about 6 months old.
As such it has a lot of kinks to work out.
Mainly:
1) The timed tickets don't seem to mean a thing. We got timed tickets while every tiny exhibit room was wall to wall with school groups preventing us from seeing anything.
What's the point?
2) Lots of wasted space.
The first floor is vast and cavernous with the entrance hall, a great museum store, cafeteria and theater.
The exhibits which are hard to see, are crammed into small rooms in a one-way horseshoe configuration.
We think this long-awaited museum holds lots of promise and we'd like to come again when we can actually see and enjoy the exhibits.
Maybe a day for adults only.

What a fantastic experience! As a social studies teacher, this would be a dream to bring students. They do a great job explaining the phases of the war, in a way I have never seen before. Very hands on, which made it even better for our 9 and 3 year olds. Admission gets you two days of entry. STRONGLY RECOMMEND
Tom Johnson-Medland
Great museum - very engaging, well organized and exceptional displays. Great bookstore and gift shop!
Jonathan Reilly
Hands down, one of the best museum experiences I've ever had. Great exhibits, helpful staff - I learned so much more than I expected. I am considering a membership because I can't wait to go back!

There was information presented in an easy-to-follow format. The sculptures were captivating. Very cool place for school trips.
Amanda Buoni
Fascinating! We spent almost 5 hours there, and could have stayed longer. Loved the special exhibit on the Irish soldier and well as Washington's tent. Very moving and enlightening. It is a must see for folks visiting Philly and for those of us who live here! Go, just go!
Katherine Alexander
Easily one of my favorites on our Philly trip! INCREDIBLE artifacts, and so many you’d never think of. Such a well done exhibit that takes you through all the rooms and keeps you captivated. If you’ve had enough in that room, go to the next. There’s so much variety there’s enough for everyone to find something they find interesting. Definitely start with the orientation movie - it’s 15 minutes and a perfect warm up to what you’ll see. I loved the progression of the flags as the nation was forming and an old Bible that a soldier carried on him, plus the muskets. Definitely some kid friendly spots although the play room they have was closed on Fridays so we didn’t get to see that. GREAT gift shop too. I would have loved to see Washington’s War Tent - well preserved artifacts and it’s set up - but you have to see a presentation and it’s only once an hour or so and we missed it by a little bit and had to leave due to a meltdown by my 2 year old 😂 this is definitely a good spot to come! There’s a discount if you buy tickets online so think about buying ahead. ~$20/adult

So amazing! There is so much information here and it is beautifully displayed. Highly recommend the audio tour when you go.

The MOAR is a excellent museum. The attention to detail the mannequins, the artifacts. The museum tells the story of the American Revolution.
Brad Endres
The Museum of the American Revolution is an absolute must visit when going to Philadelphia. The whole experience was unbelievable. From the cleanliness to the quality of the exhibits, everything about our visit was fantastic! This was my kids favorite part of visiting Philadelphia!

This was one of the greatest Revolution museums that I have gone to. It's relatively new, so it building is in very good condition. It has many galleries where you can see war relics, as well as short movies/shows that you can watch. In addition, there are many interactive stations that you can play around with. Our tour guide was very nice and well informed about the war. Would definitely recommend you visit here if you like the American Revolution.
Marcus Bergdahl
Great exhibition about the American revolution. Well worth a visit when in Philadelphia
Michael Berman
Great experience. I spent almost four hours there, and I could have probably stretched it out even more if not for having to catch the next train. Highly recommend for anyone of all ages interested in American history.
Danika Ciano
Had a great time at this museum. Interactive exhibits were great, and the staff is very engaged. Well worth a visit!
Robin Alwine
If you didn’t pay attention in school or your visiting our county, this museum is a must visit, you will see how America got her freedom from England and more.
Krista Matteo
Very informative! Went on a school trip and our guide was phenomenal! I cant remember her name, but she really made it memorable!
Glynn Ferguson
This is the best museum that I have been to in a very long time. It is interactive, it keeps you engaged, and then there are new surprises at every turn. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the Philadelphia area.
Swetha Mandava
Washington’s war tent was my favorite exhibit - love how it provides a lot of context before showing the tent itself since I’m personally more fascinated by the story rather than the artifacts :)
Sherrine M. Thompson
Fantastic museum! The exhibits rooms are well appointed and not overwhelming. The story of the American independence is well-rounded and very educational. I enjoyed the interactive displays in each of the room.
Patrick Manning
This museum does an excellent job of telling the complex story of the American Revolution (eg, the exhibit about indigenous peoples' involvement in the revolution is particularly well done). That is, it is well balanced between patriotism & honesty. My 7-year old son loves the museum. They have special exhibits, and there is a children's space in the basement. The one down-side: it seems like the children's place was designed by people who didn't have children. For example, there's a mock dining room with a tea set, but the tea set is pewter, so it's very heavy and not really something children can pick up and handle easily -- however, they of course want to! And, there's a place that's designed like a church, which is interesting (tho covered to some extent in the main gallery), but not necessarily something that is inviting to children. We're members, and I sometimes think the museum is geared toward tourists/one-time visitors more than return visitors; despite this, we go with relative frequency because, as I mentioned, my son is a huge fan of all things revolution. Overall, an excellent place for both tourists and locals!

I’m not into American history too much but this place is amazing. Best museum I’ve ever been to.
Spencer Arias
Second favorite stop of the East coast. The presentation on Washington's Tent was Amazing. One of the coolest things we saw in Philly. Couldn't take any pix inside but well worth the trip.
Chris Lane
This museum was more than we allowed time for. Very good exhibits with through history. Need to go back and see it all. The film about Washington's tent was worth the visit alone, a must see.
David Lee
The Washington's tent show is such a moving piece that details the significance of such a little known artifact.
The museum offers an audio tour and has several galleries and exhibits that I could not see in a single evening.
I was lucky enough to attend a private event with catered food and the food was very good.
I would visit again the next time I go back to Philadelphia.
Erinn Byers
Great exhibits, especially loved the Washington's tent one... I am loving the Washington's star design, and my family enjoyed the entire visit. We opted for food at a local stop instead of the cafe. Clean facility, knowledgeable, courteous staff, who cared about the job they did and were careful to point out to parents of kids climbing on exhibits and trying to escape through staff only doors what was happening. Loved that we could stow our bulky coats in lockers too. Gift shop was average to higher than average in pricing.
Frank Sorbello
Fun and fanciful museum focused on the history and small details of the American Revolution. Something for everyone and the interactive elements were very well done.
Boss Honda
This is the latest edition of museums to Philadelphia it has a cafeteria and a bookstore I am unable to comment on parking because I did not see any however that does not mean that it would not be available I did not tour the museum at the time because they're selling two-day passes and I wasn't going to be around that long it looks like a lovely place and I'm sure quite up to date with its information
Kelly Arnold
This was one of my favorite visits in a week long trip to Philadelphia. As a student training in American History I would definitely recommend this site to anyone visiting town. Shares multiple perspectives and experiences, be sure not to miss Washington's Tent.
Mary Marty
Nice museum with a clear view of the declaration of independence. They were really friendly and really wanted you to ask more questions. There is also a quick movie (12min) about washingtons tent every full hour - highly recommended.
Jack Wilkinson
One of the nicest and well-maintained museums I have ever been to. Exhibits are immersive and interesting. Lots of history about the revolution presented in a fascinating way. A must-see when visiting Philly.
Mark Hubman
My 11 year old daughter and I had an absolutely wonderful experience here. The staff was excellent, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable (especially Alex, who spent a lot of time with us answering countless questions). Amazing artifacts and terrific descriptions. I especially enjoyed seeing the future of revolution. That was very cool. We will definitely make repeat visits.
Clinton D
Just opened in 2017, this museum does a great job of describing the American Revolution and the brave men and women who fought for our freedom. Love the wax mannequins throughout, depicting events from our founding - some looked so life-like it was eerie. Gift shop is a little sparse, but still has some nice items.
Geoff Fabron
If you are interested in the American War of Independence then this is a must see. Excellent set of displays, models, information etc.
Antony Juan
My kids love this museum.
Sarah Silver
Great museum about the American Revolution. The exhibits are very well put together. Washington's war tent is a must see.
Erik Marcinik
This is one of the most impressive museums I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The interactive displays are very informative and the personal interpretive approach toward the revolution through the account of different individuals brings history to life for everyone to appreciate. This museum gets an A+ from a museum studies graduate student with a BA in history. I would love to work on the curatorial staff and design an exhibition for the MAR. The breadth of the collection is astounding!
Rob Pflug
My kid wanted to come because she's currently going through a Hamilton phase, but I was super impressed. Would definitely recommend visiting whether your a local like us, or visiting our beautiful city!!
Josh Van Buren
I really enjoyed all of the exhibits and the presentation on Washington's tent. The museum was very nice and handicapped accessible.
Pål Th Ekeheien
The museum guides you through the revolution and the forming of a young nation, and at the same time, the museum expertly asks you all the right questions, putting everything into perspective.
Thank you.
Bob LoBue
A great beginning for this new museum. Some very important artifacts from a globally significant event and period of history. Worth every penny just to see Washington's tent used throughout the war.
Brittany Ledger
history is my major so naturally i’m drawn to it, the exhibits do point out that the occasionally contradictory ideas that the colonies wanted. like, freedom for all (rich) (white) (landholding) (men) and the elephant in the room (slavery & woman’s rights).
fascinating a lil pricey, the only beef i have is some of the video rooms are too loud so it’s echoes through to other rooms. can’t wait to visit again when new exhibits come.
Lisa L.
Gem of a museum! I enjoyed every minute I was there. Well curated with amazing artifacts and interesting historical accounts. Lots or reading, not sure if little kiddos would enjoy as much as older kids/adults will. Definitely worth a visit!
Unique Rentals
Great tour guide! Made everything interesting for the kids! Really nice place and the kids didnt even realize they were learning!
Debra Coe
One of the best museums about the Revolutionary War. Definitely a must see.
Lisa Handy
People working there were very nice and helpful. Very knowledgable. Fun for the the kids and moving for the grownups.
Jarod Armstrong
Positively phenomenal from start to finish. Highly immersive and informative exhibits in a beautiful facility that flows chronologically through the period before the war up to the modern day incarnations of many of the same challenges. Strongly recommended. Takes a solid 2-3 hours to go through everything

I walked here on a Tuesday afternoon in late June 2022. This place is great if you're interested in the American Revolution since it started in Philadelphia. They did not mention that part of the reason the elite wanted their independence from Britain was because slavery was starting to get banned and elites in America at the time wanted to keep slavery for obvious reasons. I think this museum focused on the heroes that started the revolution and fought in it throughout and a little bit afterwards. They tried to explain why they wanted to break away from great Britain but left out some keep factors but these were also left out of the Declaration of Independence too, so it is what it is.
I did like that there offered free wifi throughout the museum which allowed you to stream the audio guides for free through your phone. I downloaded the SoundCloud app but it wouldn't play any of the audio guides. I had to play it straight from the website, which was inconvenient because if you accidentally close the page (which I did) you have to go back to the beginning of the tour/building to get the QR code for the tour. They do not print the QR code for the audio guides on the pamphlet - I don't know why. Also, when you play the audio guide straight from the site, you can't see which audio number is being played so it can be pretty easy to lose your place if you're holding your phone in Profile view. You can try holding your phone horizontally to see if that works better. They also take CityPass here.
Thomas Biedermann
This is a wonderful museum that provides an in depth view on the American revolution and the political and economic environment of the time. Points out the good and the bad, and in my opinion, is a must for everyone visiting Philly. Parking is not an issue as there are parking garages in walking distance. Tickets are valid for two days (subject to change, so don’t nail me for it). Crowd control was not the best, but masks were mandatory and enforced. Due to crowd control issues (I had a couple of school classes) I would recommend N95 instead of cloth. Other than that, perfect time. All staff members are very helpful and knowledgeable about the subject.
Rich Ruszkowski
Amazing meuseum! Full of interactive spaces and ifromative exhibits! Does a great job of transporting you back to revolutionary times! Must see if your visiting Philly and it's located in old city along with all other major landmarks and meuseums!
Rachel Carey
Incredibly interesting, great artifacts! Andy, a worker in the museum, was a wonderful asset! He helped answer questions, explained so much, and was incredibly knowledgeable. Would go back again just to hear his additional information.
Nicholas Matranga
Thoroughly curated with authentic artifacts and art and well-rounded viewpoints of the war.
Schalon
Very interactive my toddler, my older child and my teenage niece all enjoyed it. They get to load a cannon. We had a blast. Very expensive to eat there. We ate before and after. There is an intro movie also. Great experience
Tiffany Balay
A new gem to the city, opened just recently in April 2017, beautifully designed! If you are a history buff I highly recommend, probably one of my all time favorite museums now!
Michael Oberschewen
Would be 5 stars but had a navy exhibit with nothing about John Paul Jones
Vincent D'Antonio
1st time here and loved it. A lot of history and interactive exhibits.

Good place to feel “Liberty “
You have to join the show for 14 minutes
Bryan McAllister
Great experience. From the good space, to the interactive elements and abundance of video education tools, to the thorough explanatory notes on displayed items, we had fun learning. A highlight is the actual tent used by George Washington through the Revolutionary War, and the presentation which helps to bring forward the compelling symbolic value of General Washington's continuous presence among his troops. We ended up joining. I expect to return.
Dave Salvatore
Excellent experience. Very informative and interactive. Can't wait to go back again!

I absolutely love this museum. I am a History major and Ive learned even more after coming here. I was a little disappointed about the lack of information on Alexander. They had a good amount of information on his wife’s creations and the letters written from Martha to Eliza, but none on his important role in the American Revolution. They had a numerous amount of Alexander Hamilton trinkets and merchandise in the gift shop though. Which I can only imagine is the result of the very popular play. I am a true fan of Alexander and all of his work and was looking forward to seeing a lot of his history there. That being said, it was a bit of a let down. On the bright side, they did include him in the federalist portion of the museum, which I was pleased with.
Jonathan
Pretty cool! Went with my classmates as part of my Apush class. The videos shown were really well made. Overall enjoyable.
Gregory Angley
Amazing! The exhibits are big, bold, bright, easy to read and interact with. Perfect balance of things for young and older people. Crisp, clean museum with incredible displays and movies about the American Revolution. Spent well over 5 hours there with the family, reading and watching and enjoying the whole museum and experience. Well worth the visit!
Martin Bacon
Excellent museum full of the American Revolutionary War
Jeff Kyle
Best presentations I've seen at a museum! Short, very well-made videos all throughout supplement the exhibits in a very effective way.
Adam Uchimoto
This is a fantastic museum in the heart of Old City Philadelphia. The exhibits fully coverage the entire history of the American Revolution and Philly's iconic involvement in the entire war. The exhibits are very well done and contain very famous pieces including a copy of the Declaration of Independence.
Marisol Rodriguez
Love how in the second floor the events displayed are in chronological order
Andrew Smith
Extremely well done museum. Truly encompasses most aspects of the revolution. Take the kids, they won't be bored, let them see the sacrafice first hand, so that we can enjoy our country. Washington's tent exhibit is worth the wait, don't miss it. Neat gift shop, a bit pricey.

I was so excited when this place finally opened. I had been hearing about it for the longest time. The layout is great and there is so much content, it really takes a few visits to go through it all. The front entrance is welcoming and during certain times of the year you will see reenactments outside. Seeing George Washington's tent is obviously the highlight of the museum. I have been twice since it opened and will be going again in the near future. Great place for out of town visitors to check out.
Kevin White
Good museum on the revolutionary war down the road from where our declaration of independence was signed. I felt like the exhibits had enough detail for those that wanted to dig in but were also organized for those looking to get just a high level overview. Worth going to see George Washington's military campaign tent alone.
Ethan Quirin
This place is amazing! There is so much to absorb and learn. The displays are unique and different from most standard history museum. Plus it is much more engaging than a typical museum. One really excellent feature is the continued use of short movies and video displays interspersed throughout. It gives the perfect break to the sameness of standard historical displays and the little theaters offer good resting points where you are entertained as well.
Brett Rahall
This museum is worth a visit. The collection is varied which makes each section worth visiting. They had very helpful descriptions of each item which enhanced the experience. The final room one visits is in an auditorium which houses George Washington's war tent. It is amazing when one considers its age. The story that accompanies the reveal of the tent is quite informative. I would also recommend you start by viewing the preview video on the first floor before you tour the collection. That video assists in explaining the sections of the museum and puts it all in context. I highly recommend this museum.
Darci Williams
Great interactive museum. It gets a little crowded on weekends but a great educational experience and fun gift shop.
Caroline Swift-Klaasen
Really loved the museum! It covered so many events and topics that are often omitted or glossed over in standard textbooks and media. I would become a member if I lived closer - was way too much to take in for one visit.
Jonna M
If you like videos, germy touchscreens, plastic stuff and exhibit cases blocked by ill-behaved children...this place is for you!! Washington's War Tent was pretty cool, though.
Dmitry Fridman
An outstanding museum warranting solid 4-5 hours. Your can break it in 2 days.
Advise to podcast/read before coming - I like history that doesn't suck on AR, Revolutions by Mike Duncan
Megan Lindstrom
Wonderful! Stayed open to close with our young kids.
Jay Allen
Very high quality museum. Medium sized but highly worth it.
Steve Nienhaus
Very nice modern museum. The tent is pretty awesome
Brian H.
Great museum for all the history lovers out there. I was a big fan of Washington's Spies, so this museum was great to go through after watching that show and reading the book. They even had Washington's real tent from all those years ago on display. Very cool to see. If you have time to check this place out, I strongly recommend it. There are lots of groups of school children during the week though, so if you want a quieter experience I recommend going on a weekend if at all possible.
Duraiya Kothawala
A very informative and interactive chronological journey through the years before, during and after the American Revolution. A great mix of exhibits with historical information, artifacts, interactive exhibits and films gives a good timeline of the revolution. The journey begins with introductory film and end with the film and glass case viewing of the Washington's tent. Worth a trip to Philadelphia to see the newer museum !! The exhibits and great stories throughout the museum is enhanced with the staff retelling a more detailed information of some of the artifacts at various times during the day. They are friendly and open to answer any questions you may have. The exhibits are a combination of artifacts interspersed with excellent audio visual presentations harnessing the latest technology. The basement is dedicated to mostly hands on activities for the kids of all ages. The scavenger hunt throughout the museum was a fun game to play with the prize as old map of Philadelphia during those times. Definitely worth my trip to the historical city.
Dot Drone
Super museum with extremely friendly staff who are equally knowledgable! Had a great time.
Brian Wynne
This is an excellent, modern museum that covers many facets of the American Revolution. Starting with a broad overview of America at the time it covers the big picture but also tells so many amazing individual stories. The exhibits are filled with hands on examples, audio, video and activities, and the staff are there to bring exhibits to life with their knowledge. I was very impressed and recommend this for any visitor to Philadelphia. we spent 3 hrs here and kids never asked to leave once which I take as a success!!
Fox 252
I enjoyed this museum. It is very digestible which is good for the general public but, may mean it is a bit too watered down for history buffs. They make a point to insert the view/ history of indian, women and blacks which is interesting however, the frequency and time spent on the subject was a bit excessive.
Toria D-J
Absolutely brilliant museum. Had a fantastic day there! It's very informative but also interactive - there's things they encourage you to smell and touch so would be a good place for kids as well. While I was there there were multiple groups of school children, showing how accessible it is. The museum itself takes you through the story of the revolution very thoroughly and also provides an immersive experience, with different cinematic experiences throughout. Also recommend the tableau talks at 2:30 - they're very interesting!
Federico Stefanutto Rosa
I did a 1 hour guided tour of the museum. It was a very interesting and entertaining experience. The tour guide (Seamus) is great and very competent and he's also such a good storyteller. I definetely reccomend it!
Laura Byrd
Great museum! Has both interactive aspects as well as Washington's actual war tent! Spent about 2.5 hours there but easily could have been longer. Be aware, like any museum, lots of reading. Totally worth it!
Ellen Strohm
My first visit to the Museum was so inspiring. Ordinary people in extraordinary times - so many unexpected heroes! The storytelling woven through the exhibits was cohesive, kept me engaged, and wanting to know more. The video presentations were interspersed at the right points. A wonderful experience that won't quickly be forgotten.
Steve Tetreault
Our tour guide was incredible! This museum ended up being much more engaging and interesting than I would have figured. It's definitely worth a visit. You can see George Washington's actual tent from the Revolutionary War! And the privateer ship and talk was very entertaining.
Colonial Tinker
Great museum.
Tyler Adams
By far the best museum in Philadelphia! Love the different perspectives of historical events. The staff is very knowledgeable and walk around the exhibits answering questions for you and telling historical stories!
Debbie Bardsley
As UK visitors to Philadelphia we had this museum recommended to us by a local sat on a table next to us in Reading Terminal as the one place not to miss. So we went and boy were we not disappointed. This museum is the best one we have ever been to. We spent 4 and a half hours learning all about the history that we should know about in the UK as it is part of our history too. Would definitely recommend this museum for a visit. Our group ages ranged from 11 to 44 and we all enjoyed it.
michael henry
This was one of best Museums I’ve ever been too. Amazing exhibits. Lots of old guns and uniforms on display. Lots to read and interact with. Had an amazing Native American exhibit. I learned a lot and found everything interesting. The short movies explaining what was going on in the timeline was very helpful and intriguing.
Adam Archie
Great exhibits and videos. Well staffed and maintained museum. It was so clean, my 3yo didn't see the glass and banged her head on it! While most exhibits were not very child friendly, they had a few kid activities which my kids enjoyed including a ship they could board and clothes from the era to try on.
Caleb S
This modern, well rounded American history museum gives a different perspective on many of the events of the revolution than we are often used to hearing. Not a pure picture of unhappy Americans fighting for their independence from a tyrannical government, but rather a divided and rather chaotically disorganized people with varying conflicts and opinions, fighting with each other as much as with their British overseers. And importantly, we also see conflicting perspectives from Native American and enslaved peoples who often sided with the British, since they were promised freedom after the war. Highly worth coming and reflecting.
American Yank
A fabulous museum. Regal in it's build and spectacular in its exhibition.
A must MUST go to spot for history buffs.
Zachery St. Germain
One of many great historic museums to visit in Philadelphia. Has a great number of artifacts and an easy to follow path for all the exhibits. A wide variety of content for all ages.
Jay Schuchardt
Great place. If you want to learn about The Revolutionary War, I recommend this museum. Very clean. Plenty of great exhibits.
Craig Phillips
Only been open 10 days when I visited. Just $19 and we'll worth it. Some videos. Some interaction. Mostly self guided.
João Pedro Matos de Oliveira Pereira
Awesome museum. You can learn a lot about the Independence
Jack Nolan
This was an impressive museum with fascinating artifacts, interactive displays, and the highlight of the museum - George Washington's battle tent.
Rimantas Stirbys
My wife and I loved the flag exhibit and the presentation on Washington's tent. We had never been to the museum before and were blown away by the depth of information, the way it was pitched to all ages, and the fact it kept going on and on. We were also pleasantly surprised by how many of the exhibits were so interactive.
Priya Tyagi
The museum was full of the most amazing artifacts from this historical war. I'd say the most amazing artifact has to be George Washington's tent which is in fact real. I loved how interactive it was and the films about the war strewn about the place. It was a great experience. I most definitely will make another visit.
Simran's Sphere
Came here today for information on purchasing tickets for gifting to foreign dignitaries.
I was so pleased to learn about the anytime all day passes which were active for one year after purchase (useable for 48 hours after activation).
Henry, the ticketing manager was so informed, kind and helpful in delivering the information succinctly and with a smile.
We are soon to introduce American Revolution History to Sikh Foreign Dignitaries and work to integrate the cultures.
Stay Blessed
Thanks Henry
Susan Castelletti
The exhibits are well-appointed; the movies are well-done, and the flow of information from one gallery room to the next is smooth. We especially enjoyed the video leading up to and including the viewing of George Washington's tent. We spent about two and a half hours there. There is something interesting around every corner! Highly recommend!
bryan kilmer
Great museum with tons of exhibits. It's a lot of refresher information if you're already well versed in the revolution but some of the artifacts are really neat. The greatest of all was Washington's war tent on display. It's cool to think that America's independence was planned out in that very tent.
Nancy Zimmer
There were great exhibits at the Museum of the Revolution. We wanted to see Washington's tent but it was only shown hourly and we did not want to wait 40 minutes for the next show since we wanted to see as many attractions as possible today. It would have been nice to know in advance about the show times so we could have better planned our time at the Museum. Overall though it was an enjoyable museum to visit. I learned new things.
Eric Bergman
Very easy museum to navigate and explore. You can learn as much as you wish and are given two-days to do so. Films help one to better understand the information and one never feels rushed.
MJ Dougherty
Could only get through one room in hours! This museum would take multiple days for anyone that has to read every word and experience every exhibit.
Michael Orr
Very well setups throughout with the exhibits and I like the focus of the museum covering just about a 10-15 year period. Downside is much of the museum is just the one floor and it was a little crowded with all the tickets they sold. Also felt like the admission price of 21$ was a little high for the total amount of stuff to see but I would still recommend for those interested in learning more about one of the greatest periods in American history.
Mauricio Pretto
Nice and a little overwhelming museum about the Revolution
If you want to read everything you might need a couple of days
Ali Bakir
Great place to learn about history!
Bcksmc Bcksmc
AMAZING! Thank you! Informative, great exhibits and shows. And to see George Washington's tent - wow! Just wow. Please visit this wonderful museum! The staff is great as well!
Joshua Hunger
This is a nice museum for sure, the layout is great and you can easily jump in and out exhibits. There is a lot of different things to look at and little events or movies to go to that were really neat. They even have the original tent that Washington stayed in, sadly you can't get close to it or take pictures, but the video about it was really neat! I highly suggest this museum.
George Shatzer
Fantastic museum! So much to experience and learn. Was really impressed with the depth of detail in the exhibits and displays. Washington tent is a must see. Admission is a bit pricey but worth it if you take plenty of time. Tickets good for two days.
liz wangenheim
The exhibits are thoughtful and well designed, and the artifacts are presented in an engaging way. The story is thorough (it wasn't just white dudes!!). Videos and large scale delays help break up the content. There was so much to absorb, I think I could go back a few times and keep learning new things. The tent theater was down when we visited, so we plan to check that out on our next visit. Overall a great new museum to add to Philadelphia's collection!
Jacqueline Telljohann
I'll preface this by saying we aren't museum people. We had heard good things about this one so we decided to check it out while we were traveling to Philly for work.
We came on the first full weekend of the month and took advantage of Bank of America's Museums on Us program. Anyone with a Bank of America card can get in for free which is awesome.
We really didn't spend much time here. The only museums I like tend to be a lot more interactive than this one was.
The museum was pretty small. It had two levels with one exhibit on the first floor and a larger one on the second floor. There's also a movie theater upstairs.
I think this is a museum that history buffs would love. It just wasn't for me.
Michael Gardane
Awesome museum. Weather you are 5 or 105, you will learn something new. Adult ticket is $21.00 which I believe is good for two days. Many interactive experiences. The staff are a pure pleasure as well. Knowledgeable and helpful. I went there and want to go back again and again. Alot yourself about 3 hours to tour the entire museum. 5 stars all the way.
Rachel Steinberg
This museum uses a variety of mediums (text, videos, art, interactive exhibits, etc.) To teach the timeline and events of the Revolutionary War. It considers others point of view including a section on a British Redcoat soldier and how the US Revolution led to other revolutions in other countries, mentions of the daughters of Liberty and the female perspective, and Native Americans conversations. There are artifacts including Washington's tent. Our family enjoyed our time here.
Rich Solano
Fabulous! New, spacious, state-of-the-art tech exhibits. The visitor is in more control of what they want to know more about. The museum is filled with information that you can't absorb in one visit, but is so pleasantly presented you would plan on returning numerous times. My eleven year old son & I had a tremendous time; he leaned more on the videos while I tried to read all the text I could, which is the point of the museum: something for anyone who is interested in our founding history.
Matt Shupinski
Absolutely loved our visit to the new museum. The building was beautiful, the order of the exhibits was chronologically spot on and helped you walk through the different facets of the American Revolution. The number of original artifacts was incredible, and there was tons of interactivity throughout the different parts of the museum. Our favorite portion was the Brandywine "battle simulation" at the end. That truly helped to give us a grasp on even to a slight degree what it may have been like to be on the battlefield during the Revolution. Overall we had a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of American history. Job well done!
Ildiko P
It is a beautiful museum, with friendly staff and an obvious effort to do something special, but somehow that special something doesn't manifest. The short movies at both theater are great, the other parts are just ok,not that there is a lot of reading but the reading is dry not captivating. Yes many things can be touched but again somehow it is less interesting after the first 5 minutes. Worth the time we put into the visit, but do not think will visit it again.
Angel Scalice
Honestly, I had no interest at all in coming here. I expected the typical, stale mannequins dressed in colonial garb. Boy, WAS I WRONG!!! I learnt more in the 90 minutes I spent here than in all my years of school. This is a must see for anyone who wants to get a true sense of what really went on, not just between America and Britain, but how Europe got involved in what could’ve really been called the First World War! Make sure you start with the 15 minute film before heading into any of the exhibits.
Kevin Emery
This was an amazing day spent with my daughter. We went midweek so the crowds were extremely light. My 9 year old daughter loved the museum. We had to keep her moving other wise we would have never seen everything. Great job. Philadelphia is so rich in history.

As a history major and someone that visits countless museums I wasn't expecting to be blown away by anything in this museum. I wasn't expecting it to be bad, but I didn't expect to be emotionally effected like I was in this museum. This museum makes a very conscious effort to include the Native American perspective to the Revolutionary War, which is something most of our museums and history books fail to do. As someone who is Native American and Oneida, it was so significant to me to see the voices of Native people as part of the story of the American Revolution, and it made the experience above and beyond what I expected. They do a wonderful job here showing the many perspectives and voices of this era and it was a great experience.
Gerry Keefe
Wonderful ! Start to finish, this is a very interesting and very well thought out museum. You don't have to stand around with a map, wondering where to start or what you missed. You start upstairs, and wind through a maze of rooms and theaters that are each designed independently to serve the whole. The building is beautiful as well, with marble and featured woodwork that fits right into the Historic District of Philly.
A+ job and a wonderful experience, whether you love history of not (and I do).
Amanda Schwartz
I was blown away by the quality of the exhibits and staff of this museum. I had no intention of purchasing a membership seeing as we live almost two hours away, but after our visit I knew we would be coming back many more times. Patrick, the re-enactor playing Richard St. George was an unexpected true talent. His performance sealed the deal. I’d pay to see him on a stage any day. The docents and staff throughout were very engaging and knowledgeable and the care put into the exhibits was top notch. I can’t wait to visit again!
Kathy L
Very cool place for anyone who enjoys history. This is an interactive museum full of surprises. There were people of all ages in attendance. It was interesting and the information was presented in an unusual manner. The staff was very knowledgeable and enjoyed engaging with the attendees. I highly recommend this museum. I will definitely visit again.
James Anderson, CFRE
The honest representation of the African American and Native American experience was refreshing. I saw little if any white washing of history. This is a very nice facility, however I felt the dioramas seemed very old-school in a 1960s Disney kind of way. The statues seemed extremely dated in their technology and style. I found most of the videos to be very interesting. The collection of weapons was also a highlight.
luke hawksford
Beautifully done museum. Kid friendly. They show a few different educational videos about the time period. If you want to see everything then you should give yourself 2 hours. Huge gift shop as well. One big highlight is George Washington's war tent on display.
Mary Kidd
I loved this museum! There are many multisensory exhibits. My favorite experience was the presentation of George Washington's original tent. I found it emotional and very informative...it gave such a personal touch to a man I only read about in history class. When you purchase a pass it is good for 2 days. It's well worth it.
TF P
I love American history and this museum was pretty cool. Very interactive. It's funny because you can see that much has changed in the sense that we are still fighting amongst each other. But we can always come together as Americans as well. Nevertheless, it's a great place to learn about this period in American history.
Steve Dycus
Without question the one place to visit during your stay in Philadelphia if you could only pick one — I know — sac religious to place above Independence Hall or the Liberty Bell — but trust me — you will not be disappointed.
Excellent quality exhibits. World class presentations. Plan on spending twice as much time as you originally plan — plenty of sections in the various galleries to keep you busy reading, reflecting and absorbing it all. State of the art high quality wax figures depicting different lifelike historic scenes and moments from history. The use of high quality multi-media helps move the story along.
I left the final gallery wanting to head straight to a bookstore to load up on the scores of stories from this rich period of history — which you can easily do in the upscale classy gift shoppe on the main floor — not over the top touristy — I would go back a second and third time like a good movie to see what I missed!
Sam Siciliano
We arrived early and stayed all day. Very impressed with how the museum was put together. All the exhibits were great and my favorite was the Cowpens exhibit. Washington's tent was also a grand feature. Seems like they spared no expense putting up the museum and a welcome addition is certainly is.
dale fluke
Lots of interesting information well presented. The life size figures were very realistic. The presentation of George Washington s tent was moving. Go see it the museum just opened in April. Plan on a couple of visits or more if you want to try to absorb it all. Get the duel membership ($100), as I did, for free tickets for two for the year.
Anthony Galzarano
The items are old, but the museum itself is new and very well done. Tells the story of the Revolution in a simple, straightforward way. Having read many books about it, I found the narrative a bit limited and basic, but still worth the trip. In fact, what makes the price of admission a bargain at $21 per person is General Washington's war tent. Inside a good sized auditorium you watch a short inspiring film of this greatest of all Americans, who his former enemy King George III called: "the most distinguished of any man living" and "greatest character of the age." The screen slowly lifts and reveals the tent. I found it tasteful, reverent, and very moving. Give yourself at least three hours.
Christina Hornyak
So they are housing George Washington's war tent and it is AWESOME. This is an absolutely epic museum. I would visit it again and again. They give you a two day pass - and I'm glad they do because if are really into it, one day is not enough to finish this. There is a lot of reading but it is worth it. I would have given 5 stars, however I think they need to regulate school field trips a little better. It was EXTREMELY distracting with a lot of the class groups passing through. The younger groups were very loud and running around which made it so hard to concentrate on any reading throughout the museum. It seems to die down after 1pm with field trips. Although I believe it's a great and very important thing for kids to start learning about, I wouldn't really recommend this for young kids. There's a lot to see and as I said before, read. Not the most stimulating for the youngsters and I'm not sure they are getting much out of it. Maybe with class trips the museum could enforce a little more quiet in order to respect the museum and other patrons. Other than that...this is a MUST SEE!

The Museum of the American Revolution is one of the best museums and cultural institutions in Philadelphia. I am thrilled to write this review for both the museum and its wonderful staff.
Prior to COVID, I had set up a group event at the Museum of the American Revolution, which unfortunately had to be cancelled as events and museums were closed to reduce the risk of spread. The Museum helped me immediately process a refund and stayed in touch over the past six months to provide us with updates on alternative events that we could run virtually. Jessica - from the Group Sales team - was incredibly accommodating and helpful as we planned our event.
Last night, we had a chance to experience the museum virtually through a remote lecture and online tour led by Tyler and Rebecca. About 20 attendees signed on to Zoom for the event and everyone has already commented on how great an event and evening it was.
Whether for a remote group event, an in-person trip [they're open in a limited capacity now], or an on-site group event, I highly recommend working with the Museum of the American Revolution. Thanks all!

Wow! What an absolutely great museum. My wife and I visited early on a weekday morning, and we were blown away. The museum is organized chronologically in a series of immersive rooms and exhibits. Each room has a variety of artifacts, re-creations, videos, and interactive features. There is a lot to see and read, and if you are planning on really taking your time, and watching every film, I would say you can easily spend 4 or more hours here. If you wanted to move through more quickly, I would say you can get a pretty good overview in 90 minutes or so. Definitely start with the intro film and see the George Washington's tent film. I would also highly recommend trying to watch as many of the videos scattered throughout the museum as well, as they are quite informative.
While there is so much information in the museum, at times it almost feels like too much. I learned a lot, but what I lacked from the museum was a good, broad points overview. Certain events and battles were emphasized, but what was lacking was a better explanation of their broad significance. Also, some of the messages they try to get across throughout the museum seem a bit forced, and at times out of place.
However, I would definitely consider this a must see for anyone visiting Philly. When we visited it was not very busy, but I can imagine that it can get exceptionally crowded. This is for sure one the better museums we have ever been to.
Andrew Starr
Place is simply amazing. You see American history in a completely new light. Stories that are untold in typical high school and college courses and relevance of past ideals that still resonate with today's culture capture the imagination throughout the museum with a robustly knowledgeable staff to help guide you through the exhibits. You will walk out proud to be an American knowing YOU are still part of the revolution of liberty, equality, and justice for all.
Coach Harkins
A very well done museum. It is on the smaller side, so it is very manageable and one should be able to get though it in 2.5 hours give or take. Very good videos, George Washington tent, awesome artifacts and interactive touchscreen monitors. Also, it's in great part of the city.
Ernie P.
Very good, new museum located near the other Philadelphia historical sites. Most of exhibits and the theater are upstairs, starting pretty much chronologically weaving through the galleries.
George Washington's tent was awesome, but not a static display you can just walk in and view. It is incorporated into a 100 seat theater type presentation (on the hour when I was there) and shown at the end of the 10-15 minute historical movie, so if you are on a timeline, plan accordingly and ask the helpful staff when the show is, especially if you notice tour or school groups, you may want to hit this first while hopefully everyone else is still browsing.

History is an excellent teaching tool. We need more to understand why living here in the USA is the best! Great museum , easy to navigate and different programs during the day . Loved the one man performance and Washington 's tent
Liz Savery
This museum is only a year old, so it still has that new-museum smell...they've done a good job. Well-researched, if a bit sparse on actual exhibits. They have some good films, and a staffer in period costume (that was informative) and George Washington's actual tent. Everyone was quite friendly and willing to answer questions. The gift shop wasn't remarkable; in my opinion, they could have a better selection of books and less of the tired stuff you see in most museums.
Kiko Cruz
As a tourist, I really appreciate how the museum promotes American history and how the nation started. They say you can go through the relatively small museum in 2 hours, but there's so much to see there and so many interesting facts to learn about the American Revolution! Enjoy the videos and visual animations there as well...
Ashley Morrison
I went to the museum the other day and I got to say that it was brilliant. I learned so much about the American Revolutionary War. They had so much pictures, arts, and life-sized statues of famous people who fought the war. I would recommend you all to go there. 😁 …
jillanne bagnell
I have been waiting to visit this museum and it definitely was worth the wait. Great exhibits, the audio was worth the extra $5.00. My only question is why was there nothing about Betsy Ross and the first flag? She was an important part of our history especially to Philadelphia. That was a little disappointing.
jason lombardi
The museum itself has some OK pictures, but the experience and lessons of this educational establishment are entirely dependent upon the acting skills of the person presenting it. The actor named Patrick did a remarkable job imitating the historic figure: St. George, who was a wealthy Irish mercenary fighting on the side of the British.
Patrick was not only very knowledgeable about historic events, but he was dressed in period appropriate clothing, imitated the accent, and energetically put on a one man show depicting the final days of his character.
I highly recommend his work.
Alina Fabozzi
This is a very nice museum, new, lots of well-designed exhibits. Liberty Tree is cool and so was George Washington's tent. Didn't see any staff dressed up as others have mentioned. However, I feel like it was a bit like walking through a textbook. Lots of reading. Too much reading, not enough exhibits. Once you've seen a powder horn, sabre, and musket, you've kind of seen them all.
Austin Halsey
The Museum was incredibly clean and very fun to explore. You can get a audio tour recorder at the main desk and they have a discount for teachers/students! My few criticisms are that it was relatively small compared to other museums I have visited and everything in the gift shop was crazy expensive. If you're a history buff and have a day or two in Philly, I don't know if it would make the list since there are so many other options in the city. However, if you have a week, it would be worth checking out.
L R
This museum took me back the early days of the start of the American revolution and walked me into the independence! Gave me both sides of the American and British perspective.
Highly recommended!!
Craig Jackson
Nice museum, and worth a visit - especially if you are already in the area and have some extra time. But I think a visit to the actual historical sites nearby (Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, etc.) would be a better use of time if you have to choose among the various options. The museum exhibits are well-done and seem more engaging as you go further into the museum. Be prepared to read - A LOT. This is a very text-heavy museum. I think they could benefit from more docents, guides, and interpreters to help people who find reading to be a difficult way to learn. Also, it was quite crowded when we went, so it was often difficult to read all the text with people walking in front of you. I did learn quite a bit though. Some of the artifacts were quite impressive (Washington's tent). But they seemed to have a shortage of real authentic items. They did have many powderhorns though. The museum makes a big point of emphasizing the phrase "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and how it applied, not only to the time of the revolution, but also in later times in the abolition of slavery, women's suffrage, the plight of native Americans, and even gay rights (sigh). This all felt a bit heavy-handed and contrived - like they were going to extremes to be inclusive to fit with the current culture of acceptance and avoid offending any particular group. This aspect seemed a bit blatant and unnecessary in helping understand the causes and events of the revolution.
T K
Great museum experience, everything writ large and the history is augmented by a variety of media and display techniques. The grandeur is not augmented with details, as usual the Battle of Rhode Island and the British occupation of Newport are not mentioned. You'll get the big picture for sure, and, if you already know the full story, you'll have a sense for what's missing. Allow 2-3 hours, more if you catch every movie and special exhibit. Kid learning engagement will happen.
Michael Rosen
This place is not just for history nerds. It's a museum that uses placards, films, audio, dioramas, and artifacts to engage visitors of all ages. During my visit, I overhead many children telling their parents how much they liked going through the museum.
Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. When the museum was closing, they did not abruptly rush people toward the exit. Instead, they were patient.
The museum store is excellent and remains open after the museum closes. There's also a cafe, but I did not go.
This is a fun educational place for the whole family. Visit the museum's website to plan your visit. And, when visiting, allow more time than you think you'll need.
Paula Schuck (Thrifty Mommas Tips)
The enactments were exceptional. This is a museum that we didn't even plan to visit, but we sure were happy that we did. Entertaining staff sharing snippets of history in a very family friendly and educational environment. Loved it.
Michael Perry
The museum is very interesting. I enjoyed myself here with all the exhibits. The tour guides are all very friendly and really show you around and teach you stuff you might never know otherwise. Pretty cool place to go if you are in the area. I would recommend the tours, if possible.
Kim Vasseur
Candice was phenomenal. She greeted us right away and made our experience great from the start. Definitely the best customer service in Philly!
prepper daddy Davis
My children loved seeing the Tent! The actual tent of George Washington blew their minds. Great staff and awesome exhibits make this a must stop if in Philadelphia.
Bailey Martin - Student
This Museum Was AMAZING!!!! I am a huge American Revolution Nerd and this place was a dream come true! You have to go, It is totally worth it!!!
Michael Adler
Great museum, you will learn more than you thought you knew.
Kevin Cottam
This was truly a gem! We tried to take it all in within an afternoon and wished we had been able to take more time. There is so much to learn and the variety of the artifacts is amazing. I think the pinnacle of this collection is Washington's War Tent - Yes, the ACTUAL tent in which George Washington led the Continental Army in the field. I cannot recommend this museum highly enough!!
Charity Coe Christensen
Lives up to its promise of showing you the American Revolution in a way you've never seen it before!
MinGo MaP
It was very interesting! I was chaperoning a school trip and ended up asking as many questions as the kids. Because the museum's focus is the American Revolution, they go way more in depth on details and as a POC I like that slavery isn't totally glossed over like it was when I was young. Kudos to our museum facilitator Andrew for making it so much fun! Definitely will go back!
Raymond Ellis
This is a great museum. It's provides an interesting and clear overview of all the events of the Revolutionary War. There are many interesting artifacts on display including Washington's tent. I also liked the films that examine key points during the war.
Lincoln Quevedo
Excelent Museum, it is a must in Philadelfia
Elite !
Beautiful depictions on paintings and actual rifles of the time. I won't spoil it for you but here's one of their paintings.
hariprasad kalagara
American revolution is captured wonderfully by different small videos that can make even children grasp the different times within the revolution period. Kids can also wear revolutionary dresses and get pictures. This interests kids a lot. Generally you can send 3-4 hours if you do all the activities and see everything it has to offer. I recommend spending that much time if you take your kids there. If you are in a hurry you can do the museum in less than 2 hrs. Frankly there aren't many objects that were displayed in the museum. Just enough to find it interesting and not think it is a time waste.
Tomkin Lee
I believe this is a relative new museum in the area loaded with significant historic buildings and museums. The collection of displays were very informative and educational. I would recommend this a 'must visit' when in the area. The exhibits provides a greater insight in the times and events of the American revolutionary period.
Sadie Burch
I love history to begin with, but this museum did a wonderful job on all of the displays! The interactive screens are really cool and it's a great story of the American Revolution. I'm sad I had to cut my visit short to make it to another tour. I can't wait to come back!
Eric Steinman
A truly great museum. It's not physically enormous but they have plenty of information, videos, and artifacts to last the whole day or longer (in fact tickets last 2 days). They have unique items like George Washington's war tent and they hit history from a modern perspective. They don't avoif the issues of slavery, treatment of Native Americans, or loyalists. I highly recommend it
Carol Lee
Very detailed exhibit with many interesting and important artifacts (including George Washington's actual tent) and history illustrated from different points of view of all involved and affected. Very well organized. Multimedia. Excellent for all ages.
Pa Girl
Great museum for the history buff caters mainly to education which is awesome however if you are already knowledgeable about this time period you may lack the wow factor. The artifacts will hopefully appease you and definately a must see for all. For everyone I'd recommend book it now. Well worth the ticket price
Penny Anderson
This new Museum had a wonderful temporary exhibit of the early 13 star flags as well as a great exhibit of the timeline of the Revolutionary War. on busy days you will need a ticket and a time to visit the upstairs exhibits. The cafe downstairs sells good coffee and sweet treats while you wait or as a nice end of your visit.
Jennifer Holt
Love love love this Museum. Such a great representation of our American history. The Washington’s tent show gave me chills. Building is beautiful inside and out. Staff is friendly and helpful. Will visit again.
Karen Lukas
.
Very well done, spent longer here than we planned. Expect to stay shorter if you have kids, but still worth it. Loved the videos, the ability to delve into personal stories if you wish and the long fun demonstration. The cafe was surprisingly good and different.
John Franck
Great museum. Features the actual tent used by Washington in his various campaigns. Walk through glimpses of history via guided path with sectors devoted to short film clips depicting historical events. Great interactive screens for kids as well as adults.
Alice Terz
Honestly, this museum is incredible. It talks about almost EVERYTHING. I learned a lot! It has artifacts, but also makes good use of new media and interactive displays. This place also does a fantastic job at discussing slavery at each point in the war. How the slaves were effected, what the slaves were experiencing, and some stories of real slaves. Strongly recommended.
tj ryan
It was fun my class went there for a field trip.we went to almost all the exhibits. And its good for birthdays because they have a lunch room. Over all it is really fun and interesting.make sure to bring a camra or a phone because trust me you will want to take pictures.if your into history this is the spot to go to.
William Brown
Spectacular, new museum completely worth the $20 anytime admission entry (though, its cheaper at the door than buying online). This is an extravagant, definitive exploration of the entire Revolutionary conflict, which many people don’t appreciate lasted 7 long years and saw conflicts between the Colonies and/or its surrogates and allies (namely, the French) and England not only in North America, but as you learn at the museum, as far away as the Indian Ocean. Budget 3-5 hours or even a full day here, as there are numerous vignettes, longer videos, and even shows about such trivia as “Washington’s War Tent”. A nice touch are the several staffers in period costumes who have such a depth of knowledge. I wasn’t expecting much, but left very thoroughly impressed and wished o had set aside more time as we only got to 30% of the vast content across two floors. Don’t miss the gift shop, too.
A M
Awesome museum! The orientation and GW tent shows were top-notch, especially the latter.
The museum is a must for anyone visiting Philadelphia.
Nikki B.
This is a thoroughly modern museum, the tech is top notch and the styling is beautiful. I gave this museum 4 stars strictly because of the crowds. I'm beyond pleased that so many people are drawn to study history, but it was difficult to read everything without having my toes squashed and waiting in line to read a simple sign got old fast.
Andrew Finkenbinder
A well-produced overview of the American Revolution, from its roots to its contradictions. The museum isn't squeamish about how America hasn't always lived up to the ideals it put to paper, including from the get-go. It also doesn't present the British as doofuses destined to lose. If you're looking from a completely in-depth look into every nook of the war, this isn't it, but it is surprisingly detailed and complete. Recommend.
Beka Kavtaraძe
I have a very warm associations with this museum as well as with Philadelphia. IT is worth going there and you will definitely learn a something new! Don't forget to visit a movie about George Washington's tent on the second floor. It worth of waiting. Here is a tip: you can buy two tickets (American Museum and National Constitution Center) in the Visitor Center for $28 or less (I don't remember the exact price) and you can use it for all day and the next day as well!
Love M Gaillard, MSW
Excellent experience! Great for kids! Exhibits are lifelike! Really makes you feel the Revolution movement!
Steven Harkins
Fun, informative museum. I can't wait to see how it grows over the years.
Shaun Robinson
Really great museum with lots of fascinating exhibits. A highlight for me was the Oneida nations gallery; it really brings an often overlooked narrative to life. The museum is a little ways off the main Independence drag, but it's a nice walk. Will be back!
sophia lennox
Beautiful! It was an innovative museum with creative exhibits and hands on activities. It's only good for a one time go though, because you can see everything in less than two hours. Despite that, it's very cool and I enjoyed it very much!
Karen McDonald
The MAR is one of the most digestible museums I’ve ever been to. The exhibit path you walk really brings the timeline to life and makes the historical events easy to follow and understand. I left with a reignited interest in this time period.
We visited on a Sunday afternoon and there were very little crowds adding to our already enjoyable experience.
The Cross Key Tavern was way better than standard museum concessions, especially the flatbreads.
Uj Gupta
Very interesting place with great sculptures, weapons from the revolution, interactive displays and informative videos. All in all a good time and the tickets actually gets you a pass for two consecutive days so you can always show up later in the day and come again the next day if you couldn't see everything
Janik Zikovsky
Probably the best history museum I've ever been to. The exhibits have a great mix of objects, text, video and audio, and interactive features to keep things interesting. About 1.5 hours to visit.
B ES
This is a superb museum. It explains how English and French fighting over land and trade in the 1670's in what would become the USA, and leads to the events that cause the American Revolution. And then the museum goes on to tell the rest of the story.
It's an extraordinary museum for many reasons including how it's both entertaining and enlightening. Great for adults, families and kids. Consider starting your tour of American History in Philly here, and you'll get even more out of your visit to Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and Thomas Jefferson's House.
rixk romwro
This place is a must visit if you are in town. Great place for history buffs. Hands on exhibits for kids. George Washington's tent on display. It's a truly engaging and immersive experience for all ages. It will invigorate your sense of patriotism.
Kristin Sedgwick
Beautiful museum. Lots of great information and exhibits to look at. The videos in each section helped set the stage (or recap) for what you were about to see. My only complaint was the flow. When you first enter, you watch a movie downstairs. Then you filter back out to the main staircase and up to the exhibits. It creates a logjam both on the stairs and at the entrance to the exhibit hall, making it hard to get started at the chronological start to the museum. If it wasn't set up chronologically, it wouldn't be an issue because you could start in any of the 4 rooms. But the info was detailed, laid out to tell a comprehensive story and really brought to light how the revolutionary war era events impacted everyone.
David Greenberg
An exhaustive, comprehensive collection that’s almost too much to take in at once. Good thing the tickets are good for two days so visitors can leave and come back the next day. I was very impressed that the curators did not shy away from the thorny topics of slavery and treatment of the Native Americans. The exhibit on Washington’s War Tent is not to be missed. It’s beautiful and I was profoundly moved.
Wayne Chieppa
Very well presented. Informative and entertaining. I great deal of effort to include Black and Native American involvement in the craation of our country. It is a shame that I did not see any African American or Native Americans in the museum.
I highly recommend all to experience our history.
Ryan Heller
Went here with my daughter for a school field trip. There is a ton of content, and a fair mix of videos, read along as well as simulation. I would have liked to see more real artifacts from history, but Washingtons war tent was well presented.
B P
Superb museum. From top to bottom this museum is fantastic. Full of great information and interactive exhibits. If you really want to get into all of the details it’s a 4 hour trip for sure, but if you want to cruise through I’m sure 1.5 hours would be sufficient.
Maggie Benchich
I loved experiencing the Museum of the American Revolution, with its mix of professional high quality video, (not-corny) dioramas, rich displays, interesting artifacts and concise textual explanations. The most engaging museum that I have visited - ever. The exhibits flowed seamlessly one into another and the amount of information was just right - not overwhelming! What I liked the most? Several points of view were presented including the American revolutionaries, British, Native Americans, free and enslaved blacks, and women. Previously voiceless participants were given a voice in this museum experience! Also, the museum experience drove home the fact that revolutions are not neat and simple. They managed to capture and present memorable key points while also making clear that this was a complicated, messy revolution THAT IS STILL IN PROCESS. The promise of the American Revolution is still not yet realized. Awesome experience.

If you love history and have already been to all the classics in Philadelphia, you must check this new museum out. Celebrating our nation's birth, this museum will show you all you need to know about the American revolution. Highlights include George Washington's tent, many artifacts and interactive displays. Because it just opened in 2017, it has all the amenities and technology you can ask for. You will certainly learn something new after your visit. Kid friendly, restaurant, accessible.
steven Rosner
It is really an awesome brand-new museum. It really does strike,a nearly perfect balance of exhibitions, artifacts;and videos. And,it honestly does NOT pander to political-correctness,or favor; any specific political points-of-views. In two separate
visits,I spent about five-hours,in this museum gem. Each admission,as of now, is valid for a next day return.
Keith White
Absolutely beautiful facility and the fact that they have George Washingtons actual war tent is simply incredible. What an artifact. One star off for the fact that the tent is only viewable during a 15min presentation that runs every hour. Wish there were a few mins more at the end where you could view it for a little longer.
Rene Studer-Halbach
This was a wonderful museum to spend an afternoon walking through. It's set up in a very interesting way, walking you through the timeline of the revolution. There are also a lot of videos and presentations that would make it very child-friendly.
Maureen Whitson
Very well done. We did the audio tour. It was 5 dollars each. It was worth the extra money. Staff were helpful and nice. The younger ones in our group were bored towards the end but my older children were entertained all the way through.
Luke Williams
Very informative and educational, you can go through the museum at your own pace. Not for younger children, there's not a lot of interactive displays to keep kids interested. All in all a great experience for anyone with even a mild interest in the American Revolution
John Lin
The best museum on American Revolution history I have seen so far. Most of the exhibition is on the second floor. It takes you through the history in a chronological order. The staff there was also very helpful and friendly. Overall, I really enjoy my visit.
Rich Bussom
I enjoyed the visit but greatly prefer museums where you can explore. This felt very constrained. (Fixed path with a "designed by committee" feel) The staff members were wonderful, particularly the docent at the "privateer" section. Worth a visit but I don't expect to want to return.
Joshua Sutton
I'm a history buff and my favorite is American history. This place was amazing. They tell you everything you need to know about the war with really cool displays and artifacts. My daughter is not really into this kind of stuff and she loved this place, her favorite place I'm D.C.
Adam P
It was okay. I guess I was expecting more. They tried really hard to make the exhibits interesting. They didn't gloss over the slavery issues or the Native American angle or whitewash anything. They had videos and interactive exhibits. It just felt kind of stale. Like the privateer ship-- I know what they're going for, but it looks like something from a playground. Some exhibits (eg, contemporary accounts and letters) are a bit dry. I'd go and see for myself if I were you, though.
Jean Kesson
This museum only opened in 2017 . The presentation on Washington's Tent is very interesting and the amazing finale is to see the actual one behind the screen!
For visitors who don't usually like museums much this one would probably appeal because of all the audio visual items none of which is overlong.
ST7A Bad Karma
Great museum showcasing the lead up to and history of the American Revolution. The staff was professional and very helpful.
David S
This place is well worth the $19 admission fee for adults, as it’s one of the best history museums I have ever visited. You can easily spend over two hours here if you stop to closely examine all of the exhibits, and there are numerous artifacts, paintings, maps, garments, weapons, rare items, and interactive digital displays. There is also a 4-minute immersion film of the Battle of Brandywine that was quite interesting, but the best part of the museum experience was seeing General Washington’s Revolutionary War tent. There is a 12-minute film that goes through the history of the tent and how it was passed down through various hands and survived over the years, and at the end of the film they reveal the actual tent behind the screen. It really gave me chills to see it and imagine George Washington inside during those tumultuous and important years in our history. Just absolutely fascinating! In terms of significance of seeing it in person, I put it right behind seeing the Declaration of Independence, also here in Philadelphia. Our history is so wonderful to experience in this city.
Aure
Great experience. It was very interesting and we'll presented. The expressions on the mannequins' faces in the scenes looks real. We really loves the show with Washington's tent. That was EPIC!
Zaccaria Dickerson
This is my second favorite museum o have gone to, outside of the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody Wyoming. I really like how all the facts are in order and it helps guide you through the events in how they happened and how they connect. I also like the touch screens and how it tells you about different items and can even zoom in on it.
Anam Almeida
The exhibits are a combination of artifacts interspersed with excellent audio visual presentations harnessing the latest technology. The basement is dedicated to mostly hands on activities for the kids of all ages.
David Cosme Jr.
They do a fantastic job of telling the story of the American Revolution. Short video vignettes along the way and interactive displays are very engaging. More than one visit is probably required for most people to really appreciate the entire experience.
Ronald Cohn
This new museum devoted entirely to the American Revolutionary War is a real treat. Exciting to experience, instructional to all ages and staffed by knowledgeable
, Interested people. The displays are well done. Washington's tent display knocks your socks off. Bring your partner, bring your children, bring your friends.
Amir Omidi (aaomidi)
Great museum but they do leave out some facts. They keep talking about Abigail Adams but they never mention how John Adams is actually very against women becoming a major role in society.
All in all it’s a good museum and has definitely peaked my interest in learning more about the American revolution and independence.
The other issue is that this museum is mostly focused on their own documentary videos rather than their exhibitions. So if you’re looking for more physical stuff, this isn’t your place.
If you have any extra time, definitely visit this museum if you’re into any type of history.
Joey Cengel
Interesting place, good flow to it. Can be a bit crowded at times but if you're okay with that then you should be fine. Washington's tent is a must see for people visiting this museum!
Stephen Taylor
Beautiful, new museum. I was lucky to have been in town for a wedding and realized the museum just recently opened. It was a short walk from my brother's apartment, so I went to check it out. The museum covers a lot of colonial American history. It's not strictly limited to battles or whatever else you might associate with the Revolution. You could probably treat it like a "one-stop shop" if your time is limited and you're debating going to this museum or some of the others around Independence Square.
Best of all - they have an exhibit with George Washington's field tent (the tent in which he slept, planned, etc. as he was campaigning during the Revolution). That, to me, is an incredibly rare piece of history and worth the price of admission in itself.
Deborah Gillespie
We love museums and we think we know a fair amount about American history. After 5 hours here, we learned a lot about what we didn't know. This should be a required (fun) field trip for every American. For young people, don't miss the interactive basement room. Kids can dress up on the main floor. Probably most appropriate for anyone over age 10. Little guys will most likely be bored. The one issue I had was being able to focus on reading the many fascinating written signs while videos with loud audio looped in many areas.
Crystal Fieber
Much cooler than I thought it would be. I learned a lot about the American Revolution and I knew allot about it before. Washington's tent was really neat. I didn't know they had that when we went in. Its neat how they have it displayed in an airless room behind glass to preserve it. I also liked how they make it look like Washington is in it with a shadow projection. It really adds to the video that goes along with it.
David Pheatt
Exc learning experience...not much of the back story/details are taught in HS American history that I recall.
Very well done museum that one can spend an hour or hours wandering through...I rec'd the headphones for tour.
It points up that luck, international support, dedicated and fearless leaders and extreme perseverance all helped the American Revolution.
Evan Hall
Great museum! Styled as one continuous exhibit, which makes it easy to follow. Exits conveniently located throughout, and special presentations and videos every 30 minutes or so on the ground floor and 2nd floor theater. A must-see for anyone visiting Philadelphia
Audrey Troutt
There are about 8 different sit down movies in the exhibits. There were a few activities for kids at the beginning (special event?) and a few things to touch throughout. Overall my 5 year old was a little bored despite the fact that he has read about and is interested in the revolution. My husband and I enjoyed it. It's a dense and multi media museum.
James Scharnott
It's wonderful to see a place detailing how everyday folks of all races and creeds fought in the Revolutionary War, and how hard it was on them. The artifacts...especially George Washington's own field tent!...are awe-inspiring. Plan to spend the day having your perceptions changed.
John Nales
Totally check out this museum! Definitely attend the 20 minute show on Washingtons field tent. Sitting their looking at the tent knowing what happened in that tent 200+ yrs ago then realizing how great we have it here in America is emotional. If you dont have tears in your eyes at the end of the presentation, you're not American. If you're like me and read every plaque and display, no doubt you'll enjoy this museum. Figure half day to walk through and take it all in.
Shawn Selch
Very nice museum showing the history of the American revolution.Lots of nice artifacts. Washington's tent is a must see. You can get through the museum in 2 hours but give your self more time.
Colleen Carrasquillo
Spent 4 hours here and enjoyed it all. Well worth the admission fee and can't wait to come back with the kids. It is definitely geared towards adults and older teens but can still imagine them enjoying elements of this museum. It is all very well done.
David O'Sullivan
A wonderful museum. The Hamilton exhibit was informative, thoughtful , and well organized. So much information to take in. Great exhibits.
The staff is helpful.
Allow enough time to really take things in
Susan Goold
2017 and 2018 School group
Informed tour guides.
Plenty of interactive displays to keep little hands busy. Excellent movie and tent experience at the end.
This year we went again 2019 - school group
We felt rushed through. Guide kept explaining the exhibits before the entire group was in the area. At the end, they did not show the movie, but instead talked and showed the tent. I thought the movie was an excellent way to end and was disappointed. When I asked about the movie, I was told they did not show it to school groups.
Candice Chipman-Shaw
Great interactive exhibit. Filled with videos, things you can touch, great pics, and artifacts. I learned alot.
Stephen LaGuardia
Beautifully organized museum that displays the key events of the war in a visually immersive way. The museum is laid out chronologically beginning with events leading up to the war. There are many hands on exhibits and 2 short films. Very kid friendly.
Janet LeRoy
I suggest children be at least 8 years old- lots to read. I have visited this museum twice, and will go again. Beautifully told story of the American Revolution, that includes aspects I was unfamiliar with. Washington's tent gives me goosebumps.
Moishe Singer
This is an amazing new museum that is super well done. This brand new museum starts with a great movie in a new theatre that sets the stage. They even have proper closed captioning! This is then followed by one large gallery upstairs (that takes 2 hours), it was super well done and I could barily get me kids out of it.
There is then a theater upstairs that is smaller (maybe 60 seats) that has a 12 minute video on the hour on “George Washington’s tent” That is super well done. Back on the main floor there is a gallery with a roitating exhibit. In Jan 2019 it had an exhibit on Alexander Hamilton, including period costumes along with a real working cannon (they wouldn’t let me fire). I couldn’t get my teen to leave. There is a hands on activity in the basement, however it only opened at noon and by then we needed to go.
There is also a gift shop and small cafe attached. As to parking, I parked 22 blocks away and found plenty of street parking with 3 hour meters at $2.50 an hour (so $7.50).
When there walk around and check out the otehr historic sites and the brick road (dock street) a block away.
William Ryan
Fabulous museum. First view the introductory movie, then go upstairs to see all the wonderful exhibits that describe in chronological order the events of the War. View weapons, artifacts and much, much more. If you're a student of American history do not miss this museum.
Jonathan Fettig
This is a museum about the idea of the American revolution. More than featuring the artifacts ( most prominently George Washington's tent ), this museum invites the visitor to consider the perspectives of revolutionaries, loyalists, slaves and native Americans. I highly recommend a visit. I would not take a person under 13 as the primary point of the museum could be lost.
Mike Maloney
So cool I took my mom and dad here in the fall. My dad is a big history nut and I would go as far as calling him an expert on the American Revolution. He has travelled all over the northeast for reenactments and he loved it. This place is so clean and it is sate of the art with its technological advancements. They have the Washington's tent exhibit and even I teared up when I witnessed it. I highly recommend a nice day trip to visit here if you're in Philly.
Allison Conti
If you're a history nerd like me, then add this museum to your bucket list. It is a beautiful and dense collection of items from the American Revolution. You will want to spend all day there, so plan accordingly (I wish I did)! I've had the opportunity to visit a lot of the historical spots in Philly and this might be my favorite. Highly recommend!
ranchan215
A great place to visit and learn about our history I had a fun time took my pop he loved it the 57 bus dropped us off in front of the building. hours 10am to 5pm adults $21.00 seniors $18.00 kids $18.00 Acess Card $2.00 for low income residents like my grandparents also extended SummerTime hours 9:30am to 6PM daily
Liss K. Gilbert
Excellent museum! Take your time, as it can be a bit of information overload otherwise. Great interactive elements and wonderful artifacts. We definitely learned some things. :) They have the original exterior of Washington's tent during the war!
They did a great job balancing the different experience of the revolution based on perspective- soldier, women, slaves, British, Native American, Northern Colonies, Southern Colonies, etc. It is both kid and adult friendly and interesting.
It just opened on April 19th and I'm glad we got to go!
Janise Mitchell
Was excited to hear that this museum finally opened. As a former Philadelphian, the American Revolution has always held special relevance. The museum is located among other historic landmarks of the revolution. The building design and accompanying exhibits capture the complexities of issues leading up to and after the Revolution. The guided tour, African Americans and the A R was SUPERB. The tour guide was engaging while wrestling with the intersections of race, and power.
Ray Germann
Repurposed and rebuilt the old visitor center into a first class museum. Definitely don’t miss the GW Tent show!
Debby Ehrhart
NOT WORHT THE COST
It is quite pricey for what it has to offer. Certainly not worth the cost in my opinion. It has a very limited amount of authentic artifacts and seems more like an information building than a museum. While it is constructed nicely and has a lot of information, I was very disappointed considering tickets were more than $19 a piece. For the price, I could have read everything AND watched the films online.
Srinidhi Raghavendra
This museum is a great place to learn about the American revolution and history. When I visited there was a exhibit of American flags which was highly educative. I enjoyed learning about the history of the flag and how it has evolved over the centuries.
But one thing in the museum left a bitter taste in me.... common and widespread references to Native Americans as Indians. I am quite disappointed with the historians, researchers, and other highly educated museum staff that continue to foment the historical mistake of Columbus.
It is global knowledge that Columbus landed in America looking for India and referred to people here as Indians. That historical mistake continues to be told and retold across the US.
Unfortunately the US government doesn't seem to care or doesn't want to acknowledge this mistake and correct. Everywhere I have traveled in this country I continue to see Native Americans being referred to as Indians. I wonder if the Native Americans are even aware of this mistake or if they are aware and just enjoying piggybacking on the Indian ethnic identity. I am not sure.
Jason Neal
You will be pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem in Philadelphia. Plan for at least 4 hours of touring time in this museum. You will find many interesting video clips and interactive displays that present multiple points of view of the American Revolution. The museum teaches about events and ideas that were and weren't in your high school history book. The museuem does not hide from the Native American and african slave experience and point of view during that time in history. There is a large amount of information to read in the museum, it is worth taking the time to read all of it. Washington's War Tent presentation is an inspirational touch to the overall experience!
Ryan Dausch
Brand new clean and informative exhibits. Great for all ages and many visual pieces. More of an informational museum than an artifact museum so don't expect to see many historical artifacts. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Ari Nestlebaum
Spacious museum, very 21st century, with interactive exhibits featuring modern graphics and sensibilities. You won't feel like you're in some dusty, badly maintained tourist attraction. This museum is new, and offers fresh perspectives on the realities of the American Revolution that can be great talking points for discussions with your kids.
Allison Walton
This museum is the BOMB. Anybody at any age will enjoy it. The flow is fantastic, and my highest regards to those that put the effort and time into it. I love revolutionary war history, and each corner of the place had a cool fact. I loved the ending room the most!
Scott Zaks Radio Hour
Nice family friendly museum. My only complaint and it is not really a complaint but an observation is the preoccupation of the museum with Washington's tent. I mean that it was just a tenant that you could only look at from afar. My sense is that they portraying the tenant as some kind of ark of the covenant
Deanna Dierking
I saw it with so little time. Pretty much had to "run" through it to see it all. I would have loved to have come back to finish. I appreciated the qualities if the displays. The Washington's tent experience, I won't forget. Go see it!
Ruth Openstone
Marvelous museum! The staff is enthusiastic and very helpful. Incredibly moving surprise I will not give away-I'll just tell you you might need tissues. I learned a great deal. It takes more hours than I had to get through all the exhibits, so I will definitely be back.
Mary Smith
What a wonderful museum! It was a bit hectic with the class trip tours. But we were also able to get some good information from listening to their guides! Look forward to going back.
Kirsten Tynch
Too many student groups to get near exhibits. The battle experience was only open to the school groups and not the general public. Disappointing museum experience for our family of 4. May be nice on another day, but today wasn't worth the money.
D. Travis North
Very well done exhibits. I admire that they did not hide some of the propaganda by patriots (eg: Paul Revere's misrepresentation of the Boston Massacre), the reality of slavery through the war and the role of Native Americans. Very honest and true. Over time, I expect the exhibits will grow. But for now, this is a great start.
Macdonald Cranage (Don)
Amazing, amazing, amazing! Like walking back in time, the amount of artifacts, the variety of artifacts and the condition of the artifacts will blow you mind. Makes it hard to believe that the items on display are 250 yrs old or older. The museum brings a true feeling of Patriotism and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all that gave the ultimate and most selfless sacrifice in the hope that we would become the Greatest of all Nations. The land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. God Bless America and all those that have and will give their lives in protection of this country and the Freedoms it was founded on.
Nicholas Mucks
Excellent museum that tells a diverse story. I enjoyed learning about all the people (including the women, Native Americans, and African Americans) who made the American Revolution possible. Did you know that Franklin changed his look over the course of the Revolution to better align to his working class background?
Paul S
Wonderful museum with lots of displays containing fascinating information. Make sure you arrive early and plan to stay a few hours
Matthew Chow
The show about Washington's tent was quite interesting. The museum is set up well, but is A LOT of reading. They should try to find other ways to present the info
Parker Kitterman
Slickly produced films and attractive dioramas, not a ton of historical artifacts or information. Very nice staff. I thought there was something fishy with singling out the Oneida Indians with their own exhibit and propagandist praise for their having fought for the U.S. in every major war--until I realized they had endowed the 2nd floor hall with a $10m gift. I guess money can buy you a place in history.
Susan Brown
This new one year old museum is fabulous!! I am a history geek, and found the exhibits engaging, good signage. Signage included the donor, whether an organization or individual. This is summer, so there were no school, groups present. The hallways are wide and can accomadate large groups. Native Americans and "enslaved persons" were shown as important part of American History. Note: donor wall indicates the Oneida Nation as a major donor. Absolute must see: Washington's Tent! Yes, this is the actual tent General George Washington used as his Field Office. The film presentation is factual.
The gift shop is extensive with the usual stuff and one could drop quite a few dollars purchasing history books to build anhistory library.
The cafe is regular style. One can dine inside or be chic and fine out on,the sidewalk.
Scott Ahrens
Fascinating look at the American revolution! It's a truly interesting and important chapter in America's history. This museum does a great job of breaking it down into phases. We all left happy. I'll have to come back the soak it all in!
Jill Howard
The Museum of the American Revolution was truly a wonderful experience. The exhibits were extremely interesting, educational and presented in a fresh, innovative way. Definitely something there for every age!
jose alejos
Wish we had more time to spend on the museum. Very informative. They should consider creating a mobile unit to take across the nation and present this history of why we are Americans to the schools. Well worth the entry fee..
Karen Adams
Great interactive museum. Easy to read, plenty of films and of course a great gift shop!
William McCrary
Museum is comprehensive and engaging without being drawn out or droll. It doesn’t really have high repeat value, but great for a visit.
Ray Neiffer (PIE)
This was great. Lots of information all in one space
Matt Karas
Awesome museum. You pay for it, but it's well worth it if you have 2.5+ hours to really take in all the exhibits. Always thought I knew a lot from grade school but this gives you lots of more great history.
Dusten Ridings
Best museum I have been to. Very interactive and layout is awesome. Some of the artifacts they have I cant even believe still exist. Will definitely be back when I can make the trip with my kids.
C M
It was amazing with the beautiful art and most of the history was very interactive making it awesome to look at and read. They had stations where you could go and watch movies as well. All in all, a great option and the scenes were so worth it!
Rob Slater
One of the best museums in Philadelphia. Outstanding chronological layout, great kids section. Does a great job telling the why behind so many aspects of the Revolutionary War. Take your kids and don't let our history be forgotten.
Bill Jones
Just ok. Have some really great items in the exhibit, but for some reason doesn't really draw you in. There are several mini-movies, but they're not super well done. For example one about the battle of Brandywine, you come out knowing nothing more that people yelled a lot. Took kids, my 3rd grader loves history but wasn't super engaged.
Claire Heinrich
The museum is truly beautiful, inside and out. There is so much to read and learn, it's almost overwhelming. My friend and I spent about 3 hours there, but probably could have stayed for 4. We only left because they were closing!
Cate S
This museum is a must-see if you are visiting Philadelphia, and I would recommend it to residents of Philadelphia as well! Wonderfully laid out and executed, with many interesting artifacts and moving film presentations, plus information about the American Revolution that I'm sure many Americans did not know. It is definitely worth a visit.
David Chrin
The exhibits change in nature from one area to the next - quite clever.
Has some shades of the constitution center - like a beginning presentation.
Enjoyed learning new aspects of our history like the important part Native Americans played.
Have fun exploring!
Terri Gold
We visited this fairly new museum in March of this year (2018.) I was somewhat disappointed as I felt the exhibitions lacked depth. It may be that the site is too new and it will take time for them to amass more interesting displays. The MAR comes across as a children's museum more than anything.
Fred Lurenz
Amazing displays, helpful staff and the tent is awsome
Russell Stambaugh
Great little museum featuring artifacts from the Anerican War of Independence. Excellent display on the run up to the war, and George Washington's actual tent. This is very much worth seeing even if you are well informed about the conflict.
Patricia Moser
Awesome and first rate! Two words that immediately come to mind. This is a must see when travelling to Philadelphia. The documentaries are epic in their theatrical presentation. Along with the incredible compositions of accompanying music, each presentation provides such a cathartic experience for the audience. I was truly misty-eyed when watching each documentary. I must go back some day.
Sandra Singleton
So much to see here too...any awesome, almost unbelievable show that was called "the tent" which was George Washington's tent and at the end a curtain lifted and the actual tent is there set up on display..it can only be exposed to light for very short periods of time to keep it from disintegrating. There was also an excellent one man performance of Sir Richard St George.
Anthony Castanon
Easily one of the best museums in town. It has a perfect combination of modern technology and historical artifacts to give you a deep sense of immersion. Video and production quality were awesome. I look forward to coming back
Juan Suarez
I'm not sure if this is the only museum focused on the American Revolution, however it captures it in a very comprehensive way. The museum displays thousands of original artifacts, manuscripts, and replicas. Nevertheless I think the museum's high note is the inclusion of the different points of view of this key era. American revolutionaries, loyalists, neutralists, Northern and Southerners, African Americans, Native Americans, and even British had their perspectives, in my opinion, well represented.
Fran Heller
The exhibits were beautifully created, using facts from letters, books and official documents. Seeing the actual tent President Washington used was amazing. Highly recommend visiting.
Isha
This place was really cool and taught me alot. I went there as a class trip and it was fun, the people were nice. I gave it a four star rating because because one if the tohr guides literally told the group to dab. Also because, there was a theater that showcased something, there was a chrtein in front of the glass, and while people were still asking questions they closed the curtains.
Victoria Kenyon
An excellent museum! One of my favorites in Philly. The interactive features in the galleries are great. Make sure to bring a jacket and be prepared to do some walking around!
Jeffrey Velazquez
Wonderful museum, friendly staff. Go see Washington's tent!
Gail Becker
This was an informative and we'll laid out museum in the modern way museums are done as it guides the visitor through the history of the American Revolution. Interesting artifacts and lots of audio visuals. Subtracting one star for the distracting and loud guides that were leading other groups through.
Lisa Perkins
This museum has so many interesting and great displays. Videos throughout are definitely worth the watch. Plan on 3-4 hours to enjoy it all.
Nicole Maiese
Loved this experience! Something that all Americans should experience. There were some elements missing though, but I would do this all over again!
Binyamin Adam Aronowicz
Excellent museum in terms of interactive movies and touch screens about the revolutionary war made it interesting.
The part I didn't like was that it portrayed that the colonists were the only ones who wanted slavery, hated Native Americans and didn't respect women. And it portrayed the British Army and King George as if he was against slavery and he wanted to help the Native Americans keep their land. I find this hard to believe since the British were the ones who colonized and removed the Native Americans from the 13 colonies and the British started the Slave trade.
Ron Karlsson
A great way to learn how the nation was founded. The museum is well staffed, and very well presented. Definitely worth the time to visit. Allow about 2 hours to see the exhibit.
mcanard
As a historian, I was very impressed with this museum. I was especially struck by the inclusion of material from the last several generations of historians of early America and the early national period. The influence of historians such as Gary Nash is pretty obvious, with the prominent (and not merely token) exhibits on the roles of women, African Americans, and Native Americans. Recent scholarship often has a hard road getting into museums, and there seems to be an unfortunate inverse relationship between the amount of money spent on a museum and the inclusion of current historiography; that doesn't seem to be the case here. I would like to have seen a more sophisticated treatment of the origins of the revolution (going back farther in time than just 1763), the treatment of the war's events after 1777 was given short shrift, and it would have been nice to see more on the domestic and international aftermath of the revolution. Some of these, though, could be dealt with in future temporary exhibits. All in all, this is a very well-done museum and definitely worth a visit.
Joe Davis (Chilly)
Must see the Washington tent exhibit. It's a 12 minute film with an awesome surprise at the end. I spent two hours touring the various exhibits so it's pretty extensive. Totally worth the $19 admission.
Marco Bassino
Very interesting. I was expecting to find a highly positive-only celebration of Independence and I found a much better balance between the ideals of the revolution and the reality. The revolution has not yet achieved completely the aims it set itself even after more than 250 years. And that comes out when you visit the museum.
J So
An incredible museum that effectively tells a much more complex story than we traditionally get. I spent 4 hours, as an historian and still only made it to 1777. Budget all day for the fill experience.
TJ West
This is one of the best museums I have ever seen. This museum shows the lead up to the War for Independence, the war's impact on different sects of society, and how the war influenced the American Revolution. The museum looks at different views: British, Americans, Pacifists, The Six Nation Tribe, Hessians, and French. The staff were wonderful and informative about the displays. It'll give you a better feeling of just how important and impactful the Revolution was.
David Colson
The M*AR was great! It was interactive and fun. I found the history a bit loose and left wanting more information, but it is hard to put all of the ear into a museum. They have a fun dress up area for kids where they get to pretend they are in the Continental Army camp. I will be back!
Colson Youngblood
The Museum of the American Revolution was very impressive and informational! I came while visiting Philly and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. The details and history presented were fantastic, and the production was great. Solid museum to visit!
Sue Walton
Very interesting! Lots of interesting facts and interactive displays. Loved seeing the tent George Washington inhabited 250+ years ago! We spents about 2.5 hrs there.
Angela Bucsok
Wonderful museum! Shares a variety of perspectives - the British, African American slaves, American Loyalists, Native Americans and women. They did a fantastic job using different methods / media to educate. Art, theatre, interactive maps, short videos.
AJ C
Really great. They do have washingtons personal tent which is very cool. They have artifacts dating from before to after tge American revolution. Very detailed museum. Good place to spend a few hours.
Andrew Wilson
The museum is a wonderful experience that goes far beyond the stereotype of the dusty, dry history museum by bringing the Revolution into focus for those neither taught about it in school or who turned out to teachers who were also dry and dusty. Well worth multiple visits.
Cakes Inperry
Better than expected, perhaps the highlight of our Philly two day tour.
I actually thought it was better than the Constitution Center. What a collection of artifacts. This stuff is old and rare, and then they have preserved General Washington’s tent (spoiler alert!)
Kids will love this place. Since David McCullough’s “John Adams” and “1776”, and with the recent “Hamilton craze, boy was this needed to fill the gap in our historical knowledge about the birth of America. A must see when in Philly!
Thing are in chronological order. To make them easier to follow.

Nice exhibits. Good collection of historical artifacts, replicas, and displays. Lots of great information and descriptions. Absolutely beautiful building. Only drawback was they charge for the audio tour.

Too much to absorb in a day. The ticket is good for 2 days.
the displays arer well-done.
and the information provided about the events that led to the revolution I found very educational. the revolution was much more than a bunch of military events.
