Reviews of Plains Art Museum
Kaitlyn Iliff
We decided to adventure around town last year and checked out the Plains Art Museum. I loved the exhibits in this museum and found a big art piece of a can really cool including the contents. I loved the older post cards too. We loved the building and the cute gift shop too! Hoping to get back here on one of our visits. :)

I went to the art museum while here in Fargo today and was glad it was open at night. it was amazing something made me go there and I’m glad I did. The staff was very nice and Hazel Belvo’s works were some of my favorite. I actually bought a book about some of her art in the gift shop.

It's a bit on the smaller side but definitely a lot larger than I thought Compared to art museums in the Minneapolis area. I've been told it's an ever-changing art gallery and this is my first time time.

I was presently surprised by this museum. My expectations were low, but they had a nice variety of art work and it was larger than I expected. The galleries were well put together and easy to view all exhibits. It’s definitely worth a stop.

Smaller sized museum with three exhibition halls (one on each level) and a separate space over a skybridge. Current exhibition mainly focused on art by women, but another exhibition focused on non-visual art. Overall, I found it to be well curated.

Great little art museum in downtown Fargo, free admission and a really neat space!

Always a great experience! My favorite is the Native American gallery. There are always some very provocative pieces that make me think.... that is important!

Wedding venue review- we had our wedding here and 10/10 would recommend! The staff was great to work with and awesome at communicating and answering all of my questions. The venue itself is gorgeous and we only had to put some decorations on the tables, no draping of ugly wall or covering things up. I wasn't sure how having the 3 levels would work out, but we had our cocktail hour on the first floor, dinner on the third, and back to the first floor for the dance! It worked out really well to have the 3 floors, as we could start taking down decorations after dinner was over! The staff even helped take down a lot of decorations, which made cleaning up at the end of the night a breeze! We also were able to decorate the day before, which was super helpful! The location was great, right in down town, with lots of other bars and restaurants near by that guests went to after the wedding was over.

Only been here a few times but loved it every time. The lady at the desk is always helpful the moment I walk in, explaining what's on each floor of the three story gallery. It has nice big spaces for viewing. I thought it was really cool last time I went, that there were pieces even from Picasso. Still unsure about checking it out? The cherry on top for me was that it has free admission.

Pleasantly surprised by this museum. Attended the local artist show, which features some amazing art. Bought some great pieces as well! We will be back to visit!

Good place for viewing art, and getting yelled at for doing handstands

The Plains Art Museum is an outstanding regional museum, with remarkable exhibitions, in a beautiful and welcoming space. The art interpretation information throughout is exemplary -- among the best I've seen anywhere, including national landmark galleries. All of the several exhibitions are highly diverse, interesting, and engaging. My brief interactions with the staff were very friendly and informative. I was impressed, and greatly enjoyed my visit.
In addition to the artworks on display, the museum offers a variety of interesting arts education classes and resources for artists, including a printmaking studio. I don't live in the Fargo area, so I'm not really in a position to take advantage of them, but I wish I could!
Overall, I'd highly recommend visiting and patronizing the Plains Art Museum. This is what a regional museum should be like. Two thumbs way up.

Awsome place, just walking around that part if town was awsome, tje building itself was a tad confusing not the biggest museum i have been to but lots of local art!
Doc ktier
Interesting exhibits and the Saturday Winter Market was a great time for us and the kids!

I've never been a museum person, but a guided tour through the Plains Art Museum was a ton of fun... our guide was informative and the art was actually really interesting to see.
Plus, it's FREE, so we spent a cold winter afternoon there looking through the interesting pieces.
Don't feel like you have to get a ton out of a trip here or "understand" art. It's just fun to see the things people create, even if you quickly stroll through (AND the displays rotate frequently so there'll be something new if you revisit).

A very well curated collection. Eclectic and fun.

Very, very good! The 3 major exhibitions were excellent. The activity room for kids was engaging for them, they didn't want to leave! This is one of the gems of the Fargo metro area. Admission is free.

Nice, clean, facility. Beautiful artwork of many artists.

Honestly the best place in Fargo/Moorhead for a reception. While it is somewhat pricey compared to your traditional venues, to us, it was worth everything we paid. You get the whole Museum for your guests which makes 250 not feel as crowded. We ate on the third floor, had the dance, bar and seating for guests on the 1st, and the 2nd was available for people who needed a break or wanted to take pictures. Also a great place for parents with children who needed some space. We also had a fabulous wedding planner named Penny through the Plains who walked us through everything we needed before the big day, was always available for any questions or last minute ideas we had, and was there during the dinner and reception to make sure everything went smoothly. I would highly recommend the Plains for anyone looking for a modern, non-traditional wedding venue!

Such a wonderful resource for the community!
From school field trips as a child to coming here with my children, the Plains Art Museum has been a treasured part of the FM experience for as long as I can remember. Thank you!

Fargo does not have the reputation it deserves and it's Old Broadway area which, this museum is very close to is part of the reason that most people should rethink their opinion of Fargo. Although Fargo seems to have the reputation for being a college town or a place for Canadians to shop this vibrant little city has a very rich culture and the Plains Art Museum may be the epicentre of that culture. Honestly, if you're a Canadian visiting Fargo to do your 48 hour trip (to avoid paying duty) or even a Fargo resident who's not explored much of the city I highly encourage you to spend not a few hours but the entire day in the Old Broadway area. You'll find incredible food, drinks, sometimes music, and culture such as the Plains Art Museum.
Also, constantly changing and multiple exhibits make the Plains Art Museum something you can visit again and again.
I know I'll be visiting again soon

This "Hat's off" salute to the museum is earned because they brought a afternoon of culture to west Fargo by co-hosting the "Pollination Party" at Rabanus park. There were answers to questions about "pollinating" cool drink, snacks ( I didn't partake) and all around a great Sunday in the park. Great job completed by friendly people.

Had fun and learned a new skill at the same time. Our leaders had great personalities as well as artistic skill. A group of co-workers went and created mugs from a block of clay. Fun way to spend a few hours.

Great atmosphere. The second and third galleries are not yet open unfortunately, but will be July 15th and 25th. Still worth checking out, and free!

Beautiful art. Lots of variety. I can't say I understand it all but it does create conversation. Not too crowded. Mask required.

This is an excellent art gallery/museum. Sensitive use of light and space make them exhibits easily digested. The works on display when I visited were simply wonderful.
