Reviews of Foshay Museum and Observation Deck
Greg Zillgitt
I’ve lived in the area for m any years, but this was my first visit to the top of the Foshay Tower. A fun visit even though the weather was windy and chilly.
Purchase your $10 ticket at the lobby of hotel (located in the Foshay). They’ll give you a key card which will allow you access to the 30the floor, where the “museum” is located. This is a fascinating collection of artifacts detailing the history of the tower and its namesake. Worth a look for sure.
Two short flights of stairs up and out the door you’ll be at the open-air observation deck. Check out my pictures to get an idea of the view.
Highly recommended!
Alan Dennis, Baron of Cowie
Small museum dedicated to the history of the building and its creator (who had a checkered background). Great views of the city. There are many artifacts but not much explanation about them or the building and the man. Allow about 30 minutes. Buy a ticket (a key card) at the front desk of the W Hotel and they'll tell you how to get to the museum (separate elevator).
Brian Fischer
Visiting the Foshay was a great history lesson. Great views and easy to do. Museum was fairly small for what I thought might be. But that was okay, the observation deck was amazing to see downtown Minneapolis!
David Wilichowski
$10 per person to get in. The entrance to the building is a little hard to find and I ended up walking around the block before finding it. When reaching the top floor you have to walk up some stairs to get to the observation deck which is much narrower than I had expected but it had a great view. I would not suggest going in the winter although you can because it gets a little icy and slushy up there and there were some spots where I was walking in maybe an inch of water. It is also cold although there are some vents which send warm air out but it’s not much compared to how cold it gets. Overall it was an enjoyable experience but I’d suggest either dressing warm or going in the summer.

We visited Foshay Museum and Observatory on 1st Jan. I read about it online before checking it out in person. The museum includes historical details on life of Mr Foshay and ups and downs in his life. This is a good spot to spend 1-2 hour and the sights are beautiful from the observatory deck.
Elisabeth Arendt
Not advertised anywhere. A well-kept secret! Just ask the front desk at the W Hotel for a ticket to the observation deck.
Go on a nice day as the observation deck is open-air. Well worth the $10 admission just for the views!
Chris Antony
I didn’t know that Minneapolis had an observatory deck until 2 weeks. To my surprise this is one of the coolest spots for an sunset experience. The view was amazing giving you a miniature version of the city. It also one of the historic monument and was the tallest building in Minneapolis until 1972. I would definitely go again just for the experience.
Jake Redman
Just a cool Minneapolis experience. Great snippets and artifacts in the little museum and fantastic views from the (fenced) outdoor deck.
Paul LaVigne
A quick trip to see the museum and to experience the outdoor observation deck is well worth it when you’re in the area.
Minnesota Parent
We went to an event here and made our way to the observation deck. We were surprised to find a museum with all the history of the building. The view was pretty at sunset!
Dale McCord
Cool little gem hidden on the 30th floor of the Foshay
The W lobby gives you a hotel card with paid $10/person admission to check out the observation deck and museum.
Uzma Ali
Quite the experience seeing the city from 30 floors up. The night view is wild.
Steven Michael Haskins
Excellent even with temperatures below zero. The observatory deck has heat ducts on every side of the building that keeps the area tolerable.
The museum itself ia a collection of Foshay artifacts primarily. Interesting to look at at learn the history.
Wonderful views of the skyline and surrounding areas.
Robyn Christopher
$10 per person to go to the top floor, then walk up a small set of stairs to the door. The deck was great, could see for miles on the clear day. Each corner has a scope for no additional cost.
Logan Arendt
Amazing view of the city. You will want to go on a nice day as it's an open air observation deck. To get tickets, go to the front desk of the W.
Mark D
Nice to check out, great views, but being 30 stories is blocked by newer taller buildings. Museum area has some interesting artifacts from the old days. The touch screens did not work when I was there also, they are supposed to be informative about the building. 12 dollars is a bit steep for what you get, should be about half. Employees very helpful and friendly. Depending on how much you see and read could probably take about 45 minutes.
Jennifer Peterson
This was pretty cool for the Stephen king shining elevator bit and it’s a short lived experience BUT really actually quite iconic and interesting with all the views and history presented in this sketchy neighborhood and you can explore the lobby a bit downstairs without anyone getting fussy.
Tony Jacobson
What a great experience, tons to read and learn in the museum, worth the price to me. Being to look out and see all of the city was a site that took my breath away! If you are afraid of heights I do not recommend this. You start out by going 30 stories up in a elevator then it puts you right in the museum. Once you finished looking through the museum you can walk up another couple flights of stairs you get to push the door open to the caged in observatory. It's a little cramped on space but definitely a ton of fun! Highly recommend!

From my phone call to the information line on the website, to our arrival, the staff was top notch! There are few places left that understand what customer service, attitude, and an excellent experience in hospitality TRULY are. We were elated with our experiences! From the people attending the doors who look at you, engage with you, and take in the moment, to the fantastic woman, welcoming you with her eyes and warm smile as you approach the desk. To our delight and complete surprise the fee for the day had been waived to all as a courtesy of the manager. Another plus! It is disappointing to hear the complaints of the pricing... I have paid as much to park my car and not recieved near the enjoyment. My son and I drove 2 hours, endured horrific delays in road construction to see this destination - One of his Museum bucket list items...
We were not disappointed ❤ We want all of you there that day - Sunday, October 27th 2019 after 4:00pm to know, not only is the Museum and the look out tower great, but it was all of you that made our experiences Spectacular! Thank you so very much
Srini B
Nice view, worth visiting it if you are near by. Ticket pricing is $10 per person. Street parking available right opposite to the tower for $3 per hour.
JP
Nice view, great history! Price too high at $12 per person. History of tower with exhibits on 30th floor, then a few steps up to observation deck.
Peter Ribbens
Since I like getting up in high places like this observation deck, it was probably worth the expense. our visit took place on a cool winter day, and it was nice to have the warm air venting on one side of the tower.Perhaps the expense keeps away people who might other wise detract from the experience.
A little museum offered some insight into the process of who foshay was.
Rob Hatton
I thought no I'll pass, but I'm glad I went because it was really interesting about the items they had on display, about foshay building when it was built. And the two ladies at the spot you pay, were so helpful very nice ,that was so cool!!! Don't you pass this up if in town.
Kelsi Elizabeth
Very cool interesting. Foshay seemed like a really cool guy. Hotel is beautiful and knowing the history makes it a-little more special in my mind. Observation balcony is sooooooo cool. Very windy and high up. You can see almost all of downtown Minneapolis. Also they have a few binoculars so you can get some closer looks at things. Great overall experience.
Mariano
Inside, there is a museum where you can learn a lot of this historical building, and 1 floor upstairs you have the observatory, you can see airplanes landing, and beautiful landscapes
Epsilon Peters
The Foshay is a beautiful historic building which now includes a hotel, classic nice restaurant, happening bar/lounge, and museum with observation deck; in ascending order.
Paul Greaney
Interesting museum with many original artefacts telling the story of Foshay's Minneapolis tribute to Washington. Observation Deck offers good views of the surrounding city.
MADVIU
I had a great experience when I visited the Foshay Tower this summer. Very easy to pay to get your card to go in the elevator up to the top floor. This is a historic building so I do understand that it is a bit smaller than the larger buildings that you can find in the city, but it is still tall enough to get a great view of the city of Minneapolis and beyond.
Brian Osweiler
This place is a hidden gem. There are terrific views from all 4 sides and it’s almost surprising that it’s only about 30 floors up. Do yourself a favor and check this out.
Pettynerd
Great view day or night
Josh
A hidden gem! It does cost a little for admission unless you are staying in the hotel, but on occasion staff will allow you up for free. Once you are up there, there is a whole floor of history about the city and of the building. Next, make your way up the stairs to the only open air observatory deck around and check out the spectacular views! Bring your camera, it's one you will remember for a while!
Katherine Coleman
What a great experience while in Minneapolis. The hotel staff were very welcoming of our little family wanting to go up to the 30th floor. When there, we walked through the small museum and enjoyed learning the history. The views from the deck are great. A beautiful, unique way to see the city.
Driftlessdude
I have been here a number of times but it had been years since the last visit. The Foshay Tower, once the tallest skyscraper in Minneapolis, now dwarfed by others, offers a stunning bird's-eye view of the city. Previously an office tower it now is an upscale Marriott hotel. Elegant and classy. And so nice that the hotel has allowed the observation deck to remain open. This would be an amazing place to stay while visiting or just simply stopping by to dine or take in the night life. Be sure to check it out!
Emily Noothernameneeded
Great 360 views of Minneapolis and the surround... interesting history of the rise and fall of Foshay. The W hotel you have to walk through for access is amazing too
Raquel
The observation deck is where my boyfriend proposed to me, and it was the most magical sunset with the most amazing view! 10/10!
Frank Haege
Awesome, kids were free, right in Heart of Minneapolis, should be focal point of your visit to Minneapolis. The place is so swanky, but they are so nice when you trudge your family though Lobby to do the observation deck!
Darlene Young
Wonderful small museum to learn the history of the Foshay building. Great artifacts and photos from the past. Topped off with a short walk up a flight of stairs to the viewing deck. Lots of great spots to take photos as you walk along the viewing platform.
Matthew Zwilling
High vantage point for some cool pictures and some neat Minneapolis history but nothing mind blowing
Jeremy Hall
Great outdoor views of the cities. Interesting local history of Minneapolis in the 1930s.
John DePuy
There are a lot of fun relics from the construction of this iconic Minneapolis building in the museum. Of course the observation deck is extremely fun and you're able to view a lot of different areas in the Twin Cities. It's well worth the money to go up to the top and very fun for a local to try and spot personal areas of importance.
Adam Wirtzfeld
Really nice that the observation deck stays open in the winter. We watched the sunset, it was lovely.
J. M. Dorn
The lady at the desk was very friendly. It was interesting to see the little museum at the top and then the views of the city were excellent. I truly enjoyed it.
Cari Hanson
It was a cute little experience. Seeing yhe city from the top of that building and learning about the guys who built it and some.of their 1st workers and original things. Id love to stay here.
Sarah Blu
We were staying at the hotel and loved going to the little museum and the views of the observation deck
Ean Strickland
My partner and I went to Foshay and great experiences. Personally, I’m fear of heights but I’m overcomes.
Brianna Ford
really great place to come. I love the deck and the artwork as well!
Justin Pugh
I would recommend it to anyone who's lived their entire life here and had no idea they could experience the history and the view
Robin Ziebert
Don't be misled by the comparative height of the building. The views are indeed magnificent!
Atlanta Geleta
It started to rain once we got to the observatory, but it had a lovely view of downtown Minneapolis.
John O'Neill
Outstanding views of downtown Minneapolis and the region to the south. There is a small museum with the history of the building. The observation deck is safe and offers amazing views.
Joel Fantle
We both have lived in the Minneapolis area for most of our lives and had never been there. We were fascinated with the museum. I had known very little of the history.
M R
Fun place to visit if you are in town to learn some history. The open-air observation deck was neat. Decently-priced at $10 per person. Learned that that Foshay guy was a crook but got off easy because of his friends in high places and presidential pardons.
Rishabh Mulani
Interesting and right inside the hotel I was staying at. Great observation deck! (Entry is free if you’re staying at the W)
Myles Hunt
The lady with the beautiful accent was amazing! Also the Foshay tower has one of the prettiest views in Minnesota
Clint Priest
Great views of Minneapolis, free, interesting museum.
Sammie O
Be sure to watch the videos on the interactive screen in the museum. It is easy to miss. If possible take time to read the information so you can form your own opinion on the history. Overall it is a small yet wonderful museum.
Josh Hohendorf
Cool to kill an hour here. Go inside the W hotel and talk to some at the front desk. Great views for all around the city.
Ricardo Fernandez
Deco styled bar. Decent views. Good seating areas.
Louie Dickey
Fun, easy and a cool experience.
keith kratochvil
Breathtaking history. Classy
with old world charm
nina Smith
A pretty cool piece of history definitely something to check out if you have a little extra time
David Byers
Beautiful views of the city. You can see for miles.
Nic Jacobsen
It costed $12 to get a nice, quick, self-led tour of the history behind the building which was cool. And then the observation deck was awesome. They say you can see up to 30 miles on a clear day, well, i went on a cloudy one and could still see well over 15!
Judith Zelenak
The building has lots of history and modern Decorations. The museum shares a lobby with the hotel. Beautiful view of the city skyline from the observation deck.
Jacob Conlon
Very fun and experience recommend for locals and tourists!
Eric P Bergquist
The view from the observation deck was amazing. I have lived here a long time but never visited the Foshay Tower. Get tickets and enter the right side elevator in back of Manny's...I highly recommend it if you are showing the city to visitors. Pick a clear day.
Garvin Jellison
This is located in the W Hotel, and accessed by a dedicated elevator. You can get tickets at the front desk. The real attraction is the observation deck, the museum is small and not very impressive. It does have some interesting tidbits about Minneapolis history, the Foshay building, and it's founder.
The observation deck is neat. Maybe not as tall as other monuments or observation decks, but offers a great view of Minneapolis.
When we went, it was midday on a Friday, and we spent about 20 minutes on the observation deck, completely alone. It was like a private experience, and despite being cold outside, the observation deck was bearable without a coat.
We were able to get up for free as hotel guests. I'm not sure if there are other discounts, but in February 2017, they were charging $8/adult to access the museum/observation deck.
If you are in the Foshay, it's also worth checking out the bar on the 27th floor. Great views and historic vibe.
Maarten Taal
If you are interested in art deco architecture. This is a must see. Very interesting and quite well done.
George Presbrey
Great hotel lobby with a wonderful little museum with an amazing view of the city. I would recommend this to anyone who is visiting Minneapolis or for anyone who has 30 minutes to spare while in the city!
Mark K
Beaitiful historic landmark that everyone should go and see if you're in the Twin Cities.
Daniel Garcia
The "museum" is a bunch of photos, give yourself 10 minutes. The views are wonderful, especially at sunset and dusk in winter as the lights show the innards of the surrounding buildings. No heights fear induced, you are caged in, and the air vents on each side give a blast of warm air to make it tolerable to stand and admire.
Matt Wendt
This is a neat place to visit for locals who appreciate the history of Foshay and the growth of our city. The museum part is very interesting and the outdoor views are generally very good. Out of town visitors may not be all that impressed, especially if they have visited some of the more iconic buildings in the US.
Tyler Gosney
If you’re in the area anyways, a pretty cool experience. The museum is a little disappointing but I’m sure most people don’t go there for the museum anyways. The observation deck is pretty awesome, giving you great views of Minneapolis.
Jason Marttinen
Really friendly concierge, Stunning Open Air Views at a low price
Del O'Loughlin
Great views of the city at this"hidden"gem. Can see out nearly 30 miles on a good day. Museum was pretty interesting as well. $10 to go up, but I felt like it was worth it. Hardly anyone there and it was a beautiful day.
David H
Cheap admission for a great view of the city of Minneapolis. The mini museum has old parts and the history of Foshay Tower. Would be great if they stayed open later for a view of the city at night.
Karen Le Sueur
Wonderful wedding night location...look at these Christmas dressed in the lobby area ! Exquisite fashion to welcome to The Foshay.
Kienan Mick
Great 360 degree views of downtown Minneapolis.
Sue Schwartz
Beautiful view of the city!
Tim Drake
Awesome views are available from the Foshay Observation Deck, which sits atop this art deco historic skyscraper. There was a time when this was the tallest building in Minneapolis. Visiting the museum and outdoor observation deck will take you back in time.
Kristen Herber
Stunning view! And a wealth of history. Highly recommend checking it out if you are in the area.
Chris F
What a gem in downtown! Great artifacts in the museum and so interesting to learn the history of the man and the building. The observation deck is 360° of beautiful views! A must stop for visitors and locals!
Taylor Roberts
Very easy to purchase tickets. The tickets cost 10$ including tax. The Museum was informative and the view was beautiful.
Collin Olevson
Fun little experience for a reasonable price (referring specifically to the observation tower) Not too crowded off-hours. Can only imagine the view at night.
Jonathan Hernandez
Cheap. $5 a person (student price) to go the the 31st floor. The museum isn't anything much to look at so you can unregretfully skip that. Other than that... Cool 360 view of Downtown!
Jen Jenny Jennifer Jamison Johnson Jones
The sky deck and the hotel are amazing. Super expensive but for sure worth it for a fabulous night out.
Rachel De Vos
Very neat way to see Minneapolis. The museum is fun to check out and gives you a nice history of the building and the city. The views are great. Fun place to stop.
Carey Nadeau
BEAUTIFUL observation tower perched on the first skyscraper in Mpls. They even have a delightful display with historical artifacts, news clippings, and videos. Lovely art deco architecture throughout. After you're done, head downstairs for delicious pie and coffee at Key's Cafe, or grab a meal. You won't be disappointed!
Greg Hilliard

Austin Sweet
This is an absolute must for a visit to Minneapolis. The view is literally breathtaking, as you soak in the beauty of Minneapolis. There's honestly no words to express it, except as the best five dollars I've ever spent.
Mike Graf
Neat place to get a snippet of history behind one of Minneapolis' influential figures. Views from outdoor observation deck can be had year round. Check out the speakeasy after the view!
Ruthie Felker
We went up after hours so missed the deck view but cool museum for people interested in the history. We enjoyed
Edward Chenard
$10 per person, the views are ok. If you work in a tall building downtown, don't waste your time, but if you are a tourist looking for a view, pick a clear day otherwise it's a waste of money.
Randall Gaa
If you're visiting, you've got to check this place out. The observation deck is really cool and the architecture is amazing. Interesting history behind it also.
Caitlyn Smith
Beautiful observation deck! The museum its self is very lack luster but the observation deck is well worth the fee of admission
Pauly C. (Paul)

Awesome! You're not glassed in. You're out in the open and can lean over the edges somewhat. Be sure to check out your reflection in the building across the block! (Southeast side).

Pretty cool views from the observation deck. The museum is small but pretty interesting. It would be better if it was more apparent how to gain admission.
Pay at the hotel front desk, get a key, and ride the elevator 4. Easy enough, but there's no signage.
Dominik

We were staying at the Hotel Foshay and were therefore immediately connected to the museum by elevator, but also had the best view of Minneapolis. The view during the day, but especially at night, is gigantic.
