Reviews of Whitney Museum of American Art

Friday night at the Whitney museum with family and friends was amazing! Awesome art and media exhibits. We started on the top floor and worked our way down... loved that they have both indoor and outdoor spaces with amazing views of the city. We walked along the High Line to get there. It was a great experience! Definitely buy tickets in advance.

Loved pay what you want Friday! It wasn’t too crowded & we had a great time. The sunset was beautiful to see from the many outdoor exhibits. The museum layout is very straightforward and easy to follow. We spent a little over an hour at the museum. Definitely buy your tickets in advance because they were sold out when we got there.

I saw the building from the Highline and wasn't impressed with the way it looked from the outside. But once inside, I experienced it quite differently. The way the building is divided is at once playful and smart. You go from small rooms to large halls, from dark and broody to bright and cheerful, from private to public exhibition spaces and those magnificent balconies with great views of the city. Your visit is yours to plan as you like. It flows naturally. You never have to look for a sign that tells you where to go next. Most people choose to start at the top and work their way down. But you don't need to. All in all, a great museum experience.

Fantastic museum exhibiting American art. Much of it is of still living artists.
The place is beautiful! The food options are excellent. There’s a bar with a great view! And the museum shop is very interesting with many beautiful unique items.

We went on Friday during “pay what you wish” and I booked tickets in advance on Tuesday. We had around 2 hours to check all the floors which we did, but some places definitely need more time to actually look at the art. But I very enjoyed the museum, it has beautiful observation decks that you can see the city skyline.

3rd time NYC and this was first time visiting Whitney and I regret that I didn't come earlier. Collection of this museum is very interesting and Edward Hooper exhibition was fantastic. I am going back on Saturday. Can't wait to spend more time here with great artworks.

Got to catch Edward Hopper's New York exhibition and absolutely loved it. Was hoping to see Nighthawks but found that it is still in Chicago. Lots of other great Hopper pieces, still. My favourite parts might have been the terraces - was lucky to have visited on a beautiful sunny day and the skyline & the hudson river view was just incredible.

New location but still great curated exhibits. We checked out the Hopper Exhibit which was packed. Purchase your tickets ahead of time, also it’s super warm so if you have a heavy coat, check it. Use the stairs if you can to go up the 5th floor. Also check out the outside area and beautiful city views.
Bring your headphones (which we didn’t) so you can walk through the exhibit with narration).

Came here to see the Hopper exhibit. I was impressed, but I came on a very busy day and it was unfortunately very difficult to get a good view of any of the pieces. The less-traveled other exhibits I also found very engaging. The rooftop restaurant is a must see!

Once again, the Whitney is a wonderful place to experience amazing works of art. The rotating selections sure to fill your day with thought provoking commentary and you can even catch some views from the outside terrace. Definitely get your ticket online and start at the top and work your way down, you're welcome.
