Reviews of Houston Museum of Natural Science

Great museum!! Lots to do and look at if you live in the area or close enough the membership is totally worth it. Each special exhibit was an additional cost. The "shows" in the theater are shown on a dome screen sit high up so you don't have to tilt your head up so far we saw the "death of the dinosaurs" I felt it could have been better I most likely won't be paying extra for the theater shows anymore but Ramses exhibition was worth the additional cost. Thursdays have free entrance hours just check their website for details.

Great place to go explore. Lots of interactive exhibits. About 1/4 of the museum is something that you have to pay extra for so keep that in mind. The exhibits were daily clean and there were hand sanitizer stations throughout the museum. Great spot for children or curious adults. We spent about two hours here exploring all of the different floors. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty crowded. Good overall experience.

This place is amazing. It has a huge collection of dinosaurs. Huge collection of amazing shells. The Cabinet of Curiosities area was so much fun to explore and the kids loved looking in the drawers etc (though some of the drawers need maintenance). The gems and rocks were quite interesting. And can’t say enough about how detailed and awesome the energy floor was. It covered so many topics from the energy perspective and explained in great detail many of the concepts that most people take for granted. 1 day almost wasn’t enough time to fully experience everything here.

It was a pretty descent Natural Science museum. I personally loved the mineral/jewelry section see pictures. the mineral/ jewelry section was large dark and quiet. I would highly recommend if you want to avoid kids and summer camp while enjoying natures Wonders. I like how the fossil/ dino section lay out. and they are very informative. You might found some actually paleontologist/geologist volunteering for some extra crush courses. But be aware those sections are fairly popular with kids :).

Great place to visit. There is so much to see and do for everyone. They have tons of permanent exhibits you get to check out with your ticket (you can go in and out of these exhibits all day so hold on to your ticket). Plus they have fun extra things to check out like the butterfly and the Egyptian exhibits (you do have to pay a little extra for those though still worth it). You can't take in food/drinks but you can leave and come back in.

Love coming here when family comes into town or just on a date. So many great exhibits recommended for all ages. I recommend buying the tickets online early because the original exhibit we wanted to go out (butterfly) sold out but we still had fun at the Body Worlds and The Life Cycle Exhibit. When you buy an exhibit pass, it’s good enough for the main exhibits in the building. Remember that Thursday’s are free (main exhibits only).

Have been to so many exhibits here and am just so happy that this place exists. It showcases educational and historical entertainment which is hard to find these days! Great for both kids & adults. They have a neat little café to enjoy some food while waiting for your show, if you're hungry. It can get packed on the weekends, buy your tickets online!
Mercedes R.
We had a lot of fun here. We only had a couple of hours to spend but you could definitely spend at least 3 or 4 easily. We didn't get tickets for the additional exhibits but I'm sure they are worth it. Everything was set up in a way that made it easy to move around even when it's packed!
JoAnne Macias
Great experience for the whole family. Thursdays are free from 5 to 8 so it was packed but good. The dinosaur exhibit was really cool. Seeing the stages in the jurassic eras. The actual mummy was neat to see and the process behind it. Cannot wait to go back for the planetarium and the King Tut experiences.

Long over due. Didn't see all the attractions. The space theater 🎥 was 4D amazing. Sit at the top for the best view or you'll be craning your neck. You have to look 360 or you'll miss something. My 6 year old was bored until we got to the Dinosaurs 🦕 and the crystal room. There's also and Egyptian floor but I was hungry and the Cafe was closed.
Wear comfy shoes. Free parallel parking on the street.
10.00 Garage parking with an annual membership. And after I was 15min from home Mt friend told me it's Free on Thursdays. 🙄
I planned to spend 25.00 for my son and I. When I added attractions my total came to 54.00 the individual membership was 70.00 so I said we'll give me the membership.
I ended up spending 90.00 on our field trip. When we go back we can skip the line and head to the Egyptian floor to see our ancestors.
Oh we didn't go to the butterfly hall either. Gotta check that out too.

Such a fun day! The Cabinet of Curiosities was such a different way to experience a museum. Our group was aged 8-70 and we all found something we'd never seen before even with us all being frequent museumgoers. The Oil & Gas exhibits taught us lots that we didn't know about the history and ingenuity that goes into a huge part of our local industry. Having a planetarium and huge gift shop right at the front were great features. Parking was close and plentiful! Navigating the museum even when it was very busy was still easily manageable. Excellent experience!

Been coming here for decades! The stationary exhibits haven’t changed much but the moving special exhibits are cool to see when they come. Also KEEP IN MIND a good 1/3 of the place is pay to see so 🤷🏾♀️ be prepared to spend extra.
All the museums are free on Thursdays so that will save you some money on being able to see the permanent exhibits.
Federico Gonzalez-Vidal
Such an amazing museum! They have so many things to look at with just the general admission ticket!
We got there at 1 and spent so long looking at the dinosaur area, that we didn't get to see it all before they closed at 5. Next time I go, I'll be sure to get there earlier.
Great for family, friends, or a date! It's also good for a day to yourself.
One of the best things about this place is that you can even touch some things!
mahima sunmoriya
Again we had this tour in our city pass without any extra cost. Buying city pass was best decision. This place is amazing for science lover .they have so many things to explore we explore paleontology section and rare stone exhibits and wild life exhibition too.
Worth a visit.because of shortage of time we couldn’t explore whole museum but I m sure it would be amazing
James k
Wow this is a great place for kids! Our kids loved the dinosaurs and jewelry and gem collection. There was so many things we saw and did I can’t begin the write them all down. The exhibits were educational and interesting; the facility was nice and clean, with lots and lots of staff for questions and help. Great place for the family!
Cindy Sandella
I had join my sons school field trip here it was our first time visiting and let me tell you it is beautiful. They have a Lil cafe and gift shop. We saw all the exhibits from the dinosaurs, monkeys and the gems ..wow.. But the best one was the butterfly exhibit it was perfection. I will most likely go again. We didnt get to see the real mummies hopefully their be there on our next visit. I recommend to park in the garage. But before you leave you pay at the gift shop.
Connor the rabbit
Really cool place! Full with interesting history and really clean. Only giving 4 stars for 2 reasons: 1 Parking is $20 which is a lot, so id recommend to park outside or like 2-3 blocks before and pay only $5. 2 Besides the entrance fee which is $25, u still gotta pay for some exhibitions. I pay an extra $6 for the planetarium which was pretty cool but they were asking $25 to see the Ramses exhibit 🙄 and some other exhibits i think they are bet $10. Overall really great experience. Took me about 3.5 hours the whole tour.
Sheila Moore
Museum is the place to see!! The staff are all very helpful and have a plethora of knowledge and information for the exhibits! There are fabulous rocks, precious stones, and minerals, and of course beautiful pieces from the Faberge collection! The Museum has a fabulous Paleontology exhibit, Planetarium, and a Foucault's pendulum. There are beautiful and amazing butterflies that you can walk among and an Imax style theater that you can use to transport you back to the times of ancient Egypt, or take you to dive on the Great Barrier Reef.
I could go on and on about what you would see here, but I highly recommend you come and see all of these things for yourself!!! Plan for a whole day or more. You will always discover something new!!
Margarita Aguila
Science museum was a great experience for my kiddos. My one year old was able to stroller ride through our entire visit and my four year old loved the dinosaur exhibition. Yes- parking is hard to find so we just paid the $20 to park in the garage. I would definitely go back soon! Also you can bring your own lunch or purchase food in the lobby.
EJ T
Having gone many times to the Smithsonian museums when living in DC, I didn’t have the highest of expectations. But amazingly this museum was just as good and held its own! Much better than the Dallas one and larger. It was fantastic, clean, and large. We spent 3 hours and only scratched the surface. We are considering membership now. It was a day very well spent!
Nicholas Dettinger
If you love dinosaurs then you owe it to yourself to check out the largest collection in North America! The rest of the exhibits are okay in my opinion but the dinosaurs are top notch. There’s also a huge assortment of beautiful petrified wood as well as tons of geodes. Did not get into the butterfly area or check out the screening rooms but you could certainly spend a full day in there.
Asan Akimov
Ridiculously great place to visit for everyone. We had a lot of fun walking thought it's nooks and crannies )) Paleontology part was the best. Very charming and exciting. In 2.5 hours we were able to see only animals and paleontology. So of you plan to see the whole museum and once, it is probably not the best idea.
Maureen Kornecki
Love it. Lots of interesting things to see. Awesome animal dioramas. Great dinosaur displays. The gems and precious stones-magnificent! Even had a decent lunch. Great way to spend a day.
Robert Sanders
The Houston Museum of natural science is a beautiful museum. They have quite a few different options, of places to visit at this museum, many of which have a separate admission fee. We have been several times to this museum and have enjoyed our self every visit. We went most recently to see the Ramses two exhibition that is going on. Well there of course we went to see a majority of the museum. My only detractor is the high admission fee for some of the attractions.
Robert M.003
A-MA-ZING!!!! One of the best museums I have been to....ever. They have large collections of mollusks, animal dioramas, minerals/rocks, and so much more. Expect to spend at least half the day here. I was here for almost 3 hours and still did not see everything!
Otavio Maffud Cilli
Always good to visit the museum. This time we went to the Body World exhibition and to the butterfly area. Kids loved both of them. If you plan to visit the museum several times in a year you will probably save money with the subscription.
Deirdre Keese
I was very excited to get to check this museum out and I'm so glad that we did! We easily could have spent more than a day there.
We started at the top with the Energy. It was very informative, interactive and fun! The exhibits were very impressive.
When we went to the third floor, the Egypt exhibit probably kept us captivated the longest. It was very informative and there was so much to see. I do regret not going into the King Tut exhibit, but I do want to go back! And we probably wouldn't have had enough time to thoroughly enjoy it.
There were a few other really cool exhibits but the Gemstones really got my attention. They have some of the most amazing pieces and they're so beautifully displayed!
paco hunter
Fantastic museum. The butterfly exhibit was a standout. Friendly staff. The young lady at the ticket booth was such a sweetheart. I recommend going early so you can finish before noon. That's when all the children started to arrive.
Jody Carter
What an amazing afternoon! We spent 4 hours and could have easily spent a few more! Tickets for two adults and two kids cost $67. Parking at a nearby deck a block away cost $12. We got a Christmas ornament, a string bracelet, and a heart-shaped rock at the Gift Shop for about $40.
Are returning home, we decided our favorite areas were:
- Crystal Gemstones, including a most impressive Gem Vault
- Fabrege Eggs
- Cabinet of Curiosities
- Dinosaurs
We did not go to the Butterfly, Human Body, Breher Sculptures, or Space exhibits because they cost an additional entrance fee AND we simply didn't have time. The Egyptian Exhibit is also closed until August 2022.
Rylie Ortiz
I recently visited the Houston Museum of Natural Science and was blown away by the diverse range of exhibits on display. From the awe-inspiring dinosaur skeletons to the interactive science exhibits, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and I appreciated the effort the museum is making to educate visitors about the natural world. I highly recommend the Houston Museum of Natural Science to anyone looking for a fun and educational outing in the city.
ROBO Adventures
Must Visit! Awsome design & layout - artistically phenomenal! Each sections attention to detail, lighting and items can't be justified by words. Come see for yourself and enjoy a day of learning and exploring. Best Museum I've been to in Texas.
Danielle Graham
So much fun
You can spend as much or as little time as you want. We are museum members so it's mostly free, with a small add for extras.
Kids of all ages easily entertained. I go alone and enjoy actually reading the info.
Theresa Gray
Quick lines, phenomenal atmosphere and the exhibits we're breathe taking. Family and I enjoyed the store as well. Found a Groupon that made us less skeptical about visiting but would totally pay regular price. A return visit is in the works to take in the shows.
Luis Daniel
I my opinion, a bit overpriced for what you get. Maybe it is because I paid a visit just after pandemic. Still a good place to spend an afternoon with the children. The dinosaur exhibit was amazing and easily my favorite part of museum
Heba Ibrahim
The place is really nice it’s just that you have to buy separate tickets for each exhibit. But it’s very recommended for kids and. I as an adult loved the Gems and jewels center . The butterfly exhibit was a lovely experience
Israel
We come to this museum regularly and have been to so many exhibits. Lots of educational and historical entertainment for both kids and adults. Which is hard to find these days! They also have a cafe if you would like to get a bite to eat. The most recent exhibit we been to was “Ramses the Great; and the gold of the pharaohs.” It was great, I highly recommend you check it out.
Jean Denis
First time going and was a great experience. There is plenty to do for the adults and the kids from anywhere to the Human Anatomy to the Pharoahs exhibit. My fiance and I went during the mid day and it was packed to get into the museum. Many of the staff were informative and friendly. I would definitely come back to see the other exhibits as well.
P. S. I would recommend parking at a garage outside the park as you will be stuck in traffic for a while.
Barak Meiri
It was nice, the dinosaur show the best for me, the rest were fine (i believe it is based on what topics you like).
If you want to see space i would recommend Nasa space center.
But the administration was high, $25 for the museum and i added an additional $12 to see a 3D movie (i selected the Everst movie), i don't know why they call it 3D, besides the glasses there was no 3D effects, i think you can save the money on this.
Carlos E.
First time coming here. Really enjoyed the place. The museum was a very cool experience. So much to see and take in. I became a member so that I can come back and check it out again. Did not have enough time to really appreciate it. Make sure you have time to spend. Definitely coming back.
C M
Oh my goodness, we spent 4.5 hours here and felt like we barely scratched the surface. Everything as absolutely incredible. The staff was super friendly and surprisingly, not crowded at all. 15/10 would recommend! We can't wait to come back!
Tawana Cox
We came here to enjoy the Butterfly museum and it was amazing to see all the various species in flight. It was truly a joy to see! This place gets crowded on weekends and peak season so I would recommend that you come early so you could ‘spread your wings’ a little more 😜🦋
Maya C.
Have come here a couple of times (the membership is definitely worth it) and each time has been very fun! The museum is very well maintained and there’s so much to explore and discover. Definitely recommend visiting at least once!
Scott Salter
Great trip to the museum with the kids. Dinosaur exhibit is fantastic with multiple T-Rexes to enjoy. Food was affordable and very quickly served I was amazed that there was at least 20 people in front of us but we still got our food in less than 10 minutes. There are multiple activities to do for all ages the gift shop is also affordable We left with multiple items and spent less than $50.
Kelly Gee
We are members here off and on, rotating with other museums by year. This is a pretty good science museum. My favorite sections are the minerals and gems and the shells. My children love the Texas wildlife section, the pendulum and paleontology hall. The dino skeletons are fabulous, even to me, who is not crazy about dinosaurs. They have special exhibits you pay extra for. The butterfly pyramid and bug exhibits within it are fabulous if you want to add on a ticket. Planetarium had a variety of shoes and they also have a special screen they show other movies on. I'd only go with a coupon or membership, though, because I feel it's pricey for a family. I wish it was part of the ASTC program, but it is not. They have a gift shop, food, and near stuff outside at the entrance (giant sun dial, planets in the concrete, and a fountain). The location is excellent if you are downtown-Miller outdoor theater is across the street with hills to roll down, health, children's museum and zoo are all in waking distance. If give this museum at least 3 hours, more if you add a part that isn't included with general admission.
Edgardo Hernandez
Amazing museum to visit. I’ve never seen so many gems and crystals in one place. I was amazed by the amount of fossils from dinosaurs and caveman in the exhibit. The planetarium was crazy good, it does really feel you are in orbit. Will recommend this to anyone!
Thomas Sanders
This museum is superb. All exhibits are well done and informative. Really enjoyed the dinosaurs! Planetarium was excellent also. Check out the gem collection. So beautiful. The Egyptian and history exhibits great. Lots to see and do. Would go again.
Sonia Medina
Go on a weekday, and look into buying the membership. I got the partner one for my boyfriend and I. We got into the permanent exhibits for free and for the others only had to pay half! Was there almost all day. Staff is very welcoming and friendly.
Y Sal
I’ve been coming here since I was a kid (2000’s) and it’s always been a great experience. Staff is always friendly and amazing. The exhibits are so cool and updated throughout the years. I’ve been here for birthdays, weekend trips, and the new butterfly reopening and this place never seizes to amaze me. I’ve come with my family and brought friends and they all love it. And I know when I have kids, I’ll still be coming here 💙
Polina Blair
The museum is a must to see if you like fossils and minerals. The exhibit is comprehensive and fossils are abundant and of good sizes. There are several other exhibits about malacolgy as well as coastal Texas eco system. These are included in general admission. There are also additional galleries for extra cost. It’s easy to spend several hours in the museum. Highly recommend.
Blessing Tukura
I would recommend that if you're visiting here for the first time, prepare to spend at least 4 hours here as there is a lot to see and do here. But it was a beautiful experience and I was really glad I got to relate textbook knowledge with physical evidence. I highly recommend especially for Geologists and others in the Natural science discipline.
Will
Very cool place for all ages. Interesting, factual, scientific & educational. Multiple floors with various exhibits. 4th floor had an oil drilling museum, 3rd was ancient Egypt, and of course there is the first floor dinosaur exhibit which is awesome!
Daniel Li
The museum that was open with General Admission was nice, there was a good amount of things to see and they were all fairly interesting. My gripe is that a lot of the best of the museum is locked behind fairly expensive extra tickets that you need to purchase beyond the initial entrance fee. Even parts that used to be general admission are now having to be paid for.
Tracy Ta
If you have a student ID, you should bring it. If you’re a houston native and live near the museum district or just love museums BUY THE ANNUAL PASS!! It was such a great experience and definitely the best museum in Houston. The dinosaur exhibit is the best I’ve ever seen. There is also a butterfly habitat there that is worth seeing. It costs extra but not by much! This is a museum for kids and adults alike!
Maria tg
I was so excited to see the Egyptian exhibit but was closed. It is a good experience for children and adults. They have different educational movies that you can purchase tickets if you want to learn more about the earth.
Glenda A
What a phenomenal experience we had here! By far my favorite museum. I was amazed the entire time. We had an amazing experience here. I will definitely be coming back again. Everything was mesmerizing. The butterfly center was my favorite. It was absolutely breathtaking. My husband had a blast at the malacology area!
Calvin Law
The museum is actually quite a good size. One of the floors was closed but there was still 3 floors of things to explore. They had mostly things on display, but about 25% of it was interactable which felt more engaging and a little more fun
Troy Johnson
What a great place! The entire museum is incredibly well maintained and every exhibit has something really neat to offer. Even if you are not going to the special attractions you are going to have a GREAT time. Fantastic for any age group there is absolutely something here to inspire and awe absolutely anyone. Do yourself a favor and make the trip!
Stephanie Hansen
This is a beautiful museum with tons of attractions. There is no way to see the whole place in one day, there is to much to see.
We went to see the Rameses ll exhibit and it took three and a half hours to get through it. It was amazing. So make sure you plan an early start!
Michael Cha
Really great museum, exhibits were interesting, especially the Energy floor, enjoyable for kids, the Ramses section was very well done. All the staff members were extremely polite and professional. The only thing was $20 for parking, that was egregious.
Todd Rodgers
Really cool place to spend a few hours or the whole day. The King Tut exhibit was well worth the price of admission, there was so much to see and do.
Good mixture of items to see, this included displays on oil and gas, wildlife from Texas, dinosaurs and gems.
stephen shaw (Sailhammer)
Beautiful Natural History Museum! They have amazing exhibits that are well put together amd cared for. Parking was difficult, but if the garage attached to the Museum is full there is a garage across the street. Cost was about $12 to park. Looking forward to going back!
Karina Paul
Brought my parents here to show houston around and was more than impressed. We came on the weekend around 1pm and it was busy. We did not by tickets in advance. We found the free parking outside near the Herman park and walked to the museum. We bought tickets at the kiosk so no wait time. Came to see body worlds and paid $30 per one adult entry without membership. I thought it was a lot for just one exhibit but then I learned that it granted us access to all the floors. Plan to spend at least couple of hours here. There are a lot to see… from ancient Egypt to dinosaurs to Texas wild life and energy center on top… I would come here on a weekday as there would not be many people. Impressive museum… highly recommend to visit at least once… there is also a butterfly garden but we did not make it there ….
Alexis Amos
I loved this museum, it's unfortunate we were pressed for time so we didn't get to see everything. Staff was very helpful in all exhibits of the museum. The body exhibit was nice but felt like it ended too fast. If you buy an exhibit the natural science part it also included . Next time I return to Houston I'm going back to finish up the entire museum!
The Raging Demon
Very friendly and helpful staff. To see the other exhibits you have to pay extra normally being 10 bucks. It very beautiful, educational, and great family fun. Highly recommend the dinosaur exhibit
Brandon Boyer
Incredible experience! I went on a Thursday and showed up at 1:30. The gentleman greeted me while I was waiting in line and asked me if I was a Vet or a teacher. I responded no. He said that at 2 pm they would be offering free admission but I was going to be more packed and I would have to wait in line. Seemed to me like he didn’t care once I said I could wait 30 min to save me $50. I walked around the gardens near me in the mean time. It was worth the wait especially since the butterfly exhibit was not up and running.
Live & Inspire Photography
Had such an amazing experience. From the astrological movie experience that was out of this world. I would recommend that one to start with. We loved the dinosaur exhibit and the Egyptian mummies ad well. Everything there has a wow factor and the lil ones learn and have fun.
Ruben “BioStOrM” Villalpando
A wonderful pleasant experience. Perfect for the entire family and a very clean environment for browsing. I attended the Ramses exhibition and there were galleries of antiquities to view as well as learn from. Informative! Highly recommend!!
Edgar “Eddie” Castlow
The Houston Museum of Natural Science has serious with having things closed. That is the largest issue with the rating of this museum. The open areas are not clearly marked. The increased setting area for food service looks awful and hurts traffic flow.
With that said the collections are worth seeing. The work that goes in to keeping and presenting them is unmatched.
Mukti Barakoti
This is of course nice spot for natural science and history lovers. We couldn't find friendly entrance information however we managed to learn as much as possible before buying tickets. Nice experience. It would be very helpful if an information desk or information screen is created. Enjoyed the time there.
Mirwais Osmani
It worths to spend a whole day here if you're a fan of Natural science and History. Kids friendly and different parts of Museum offer all ages knowledge and fun.
We're lucky to get to see Ramses II exhibition while being there.
John Barrett (speedking456)
Extremely awesome experience at the Natural Science Museum. Highly recommend for older teens and adults, kids will likely get bored so be aware.
Exhibits at the time of my visit included: gems and geodes, mollusks, local wildlife, ancient history, indigenous peoples, and dinosaurs.
Worthwhile coming here if you’ve got the Houston CityPass, but admission is a bit pricey compared to other attractions in Houston.
5/5, with a minor complaint, I wish the signage was a bit clearer.
Kenyon Murphy
This museum is awesome, there are a bit of everything. They have dinosaurs, Egyptians display, Native American, many different type of gems. Overall it is a decent museum to visit. Parking is decently price.
Hope Whitson
While the layout is confusing and buying separate tickets for what feels like every other exhibit kinda sucks, this was a great museum to visit. The gem and faberge exhibit were low key astounding. The dinosaurs were huge and a crowd favorite. My absolute favorite, and the whole purpose of the visit, was the Egyptian exhibit. It was in two parts - the Ramses II exhibit, which was a separate ticket, and the permanent Egyptian exhibit. Together it's a huge spectacle! A lot of the Ramses stuff was insane. I literally cannot do it justice and would have spent all day there if I could. This was a once in a lifetime experience and I recommend it to anyone that is interested.
Sbrisart21
My favorite museum I've been to. They have an excellent collection of fossils and gems. The cabinet of curiosities is exactly that.
Unfortunately the butterfly enclosure was sold out when we went.
siddarth guptha
Was here for a wedding. We had our 2 year old and she loved all the dinosaurs around us. The dinosaurs fossils ranged from the big ones to the small ones and there were pictures depicting the food chain during those times. Will definitely go back here and highly recommend the place.
Jia Vern Tan
The musuem is not big and 3rd floor is close for renovations. However the display was very pretty. My niece love it. We spend about 2 hours in there.
If you are staying in Houston, it's worth it to get the member price. I bought the ticket from Groupon which is slightly cheaper
Stephen Meaux
Awesome museum. It was so packed when we were there. Waited in line for 45 minutes to get tickets. We were there during the Christmas holidays so that is why there were so many people. Very little free parking by the museum. There is a parking garage right next to it for $30 or so. The museum is really great though. A lot to see. It'll take hours to see everything. I recommend it.
Ron P. (Texas Born)
There are times, when the benefits of living in a major metropolitan area is uniquely helpful. Such as the case, when I attended the Houston Museum of natural science - with multiple floors that document the evolution of mankind and their habits around the world. A tour is a one of a kind experience that includes an unforgettable collection of dinosaur skeletons, your visit will be memorable and unique.
Jessica Torres
We come to Houston periodically, and always buy a City Pass! So worth it if you don't know what to do, Houston is so big and has so many museums and attractions. My son and daughter loved the Museum, we were so excited, and stayed 5 hours! Be mindful of parking $20 bucks, and plan for the extra exhibits not included with city pass. Butterfly exhibit is not included, planetarium, etc. We paid extra to do those. Food has gone up too. Overall, definitely take your little ones for exploring! My kids are 7 and 11.
Christopher Smith
Lots to see, the kids were fascinated with all the different displays. They really enjoyed the dinosaurs. They are a little young to appreciate it all so we’ll bring them back when they get older.
Angel Riddle
I highly recommend buying tickets to the Houston museum of natural history. My favorite exhibit was the gem exhibit. It is massive and it’s difficult to see every piece. The dinosaurs were also a big hit. There is parking across the street and I hope you have a fun time visiting.
Stacy H
First time going today & it was Spring break. BIG MISTAKE! It was super busy and couldn't find parking to save a life. But besides a that the Museum was amazing! We ended up getting a family pass so we could go back whenever for the next year! (We will be skipping school form now on 😅) I didn't get a chance to read much of what each exhibit was, again sping break and TONS of people, but the exhibits we're great. The kids really loved seeing all the different animals from around the world and our Great Texas coast! I pretty sure the Dinos were the favorite of the kids. They just couldn't believe how big the dinos were! The planetarium is a must to do. All in all it was a blast

It's a really awesome way to spend a weekend day on a hot Houston summer! Excellent expositions, great for teenagers interested in natural sciences and just curious about the past.
Highly recommend it, especially for families!
Krystal Drummond
The Rameses special exhibit was breathtakingly Enlightening. The single operational elevator and no stairs to the third floor caused an extremely long wait was the only drawback. Overall my spouse enjoyed the Father's Day 🎁
Jada Andrews
Hands down the best museum I’ve ever been to. The experience we had here versus NASA was night and day! We didn’t have to wait long to get tickets or anything because we had the City Pass (the pass saves lives, just get it.) We did the King Tut and Butterfly exhibit for an extra cost, but it felt worth it because the CityPass brings the price of add-ons down to military pricing. Everything just felt so amazing to see, especially the bust of Nefertiti! My favorite part of the museum is definitely the gem vault. I can’t recommend this place enough - plus everyone was super kind and exercised a level of “museum etiquette,” unlike at NASA. We can’t wait to come back!
MJ B Galendez
We enjoyed visiting this museum. My kids wanted to especially see the dinosaurs, gems and evolution. The museum was huge and there was so much to see. We didn’t get to see the whole museum as we were getting hungry by 4pm. The place wasn’t crowded and there were so many artifacts to see.
Johnny Miller
Had a great time. Really loved everything. Wish I would have went earlier to give myself more time. If ur on the fence about going don't even think about it just go. An awesome experience alone or with friends and family
J McMullen
Very cool place. Lots to see. The dinosaur exhibit is amazing with many skeletons to see. We finally made it into the butterfly exhibit and there were lots to see and learn in there. Can’t wait to come back.
Catrina Gilbert
Loveeeee this museum. But beware the mummy’s curse (just kidding). I actually learned so much here about indigenous people in the America’s. Stunning collection of artifacts and great story telling. This was also my first time seeing mummies so that was neat. I spent so much time being thorough at the top, I couldn’t see much of the dinosaur/fossil collection but I saw some skeletons I’d never seen before like the giant sloth! I also really enjoyed the curiosities collection.
Rachel Iverson
Wow, what an amazing museum! The exhibits were well put together and easy to walk through. I throughly enjoyed my time here. The butterfly garden was worth the extra cost, the plant life and butterflies were absolutely gorgeous. The specialty exhibits are especially interesting! We came while they were hosting ramses the great, it was spectacular.
Doug Nardecchia
It's worth the time, very interesting exhibits. Need to set aside some time if you're going here. There is a nice park with a Japanese garden and a reflection pool right across the street.
Deniz
Cool place to spend time! The butterfly place was closed due to restoration, rest of the museum was fun. My parents especially like the stuffed animal exhibition and shells. I really enjoyed the mineral section and fossil exhibition. I didnt like the first exhibition, lots of animal parts were there, it seemed to be cruial to me. Also, most of them has no name tag, they just shared a crowded space. Overall, many exhibits to check! The parking tickets are expensive almost as much as museum entrance fee fyi...
Nancy K Haddock
My first time here. The Ramses the Great exhibit was fabulous. We did the virtual experience and it was amazing! The whole exhibit was terrific. We did the butterflies and the dinosaurs too. Huge place. Clean, people to help/ answer questions, a snack bar type thing, plenty of restrooms. Too much to do and see in the time we had, but I'd go back again!
F kafka
The King Tut exhibit was interesting and informative. A major component of the exhibit is meant to look like the tomb itself. This made progress very slow because when entering everybody is going through the narrow passage into the tomb. None of the “artifacts” are the real thing but you do get a good sense of how elaborate the burial was.
Melissa Mendez
Amazing museum and great exhibitions. You get to learn a lot, is a big museum so you have to take your time to enjoy all their exhibitions. Overall a great place to visit with family or friends.
Fabiola Sandoval
Great place to spend a few hours. The real T Rex shown is missing part of its tail. Staff said they believe the T Rex died from blood loss after a fight. Then I was told the real dinosaurs have metal hugging the bones and the fake bones are replicas and you can notice it by seeing the metal support going thru the bone. Quite educational…. Stop by and support.
D (Ghost Turtle)
This was worth more than what we paid for... We spent over 5 hours here and still didn't see everything and my 3 children were ACTIVELY engaged in so many of the exhibits it brought a smile to my face repeatedly. If you're THINKING of going... Do it... Honestly a MUST ON ANY to do list whether you live in Houston or not.
John Howlett
Something for everyone at this natural history museum. My teenage son most enjoyed the minerals and gems, my wife loved the ancient Egypt area, I liked the energy hall (maybe because I work in that field), and we all enjoyed the animal displays. The displays everywhere are very nice and well labeled. We spent a little over 6 hours looking through the museum. That's probably more time than most might enjoy at one time, especially younger kids, but it has that much to see and explore.
Jedi AC
We grabbed a Groupon for 2 tickets to see the Ramses exhibit. Totally worth it! Not only do you get to see the special exhibit, but the newly renovated Egypian hall. We spent at least 2-3 hours going through it all. So much information and the amount of items that were brought over is amazing. MUST SEE. The Groupon also includes general admission to all the regular exhibits too so one could easily spend all day
Lola Jones
It is fun just don't look too hard. It's getting old and someone needs to do better maintenance. I remember coming as a kid. It still look the sameish. Just old and dusty and things missing.. maybe use the time and money on updates or upkeep. Some of the taxidermy animals need some help...
Fe Isles
It was $61 for myself, my 5yo, my 1yo (who was free) & parking in the garage ($20 non- member). We had access to the floors, but the 3rd floor was closed. We were there mainly for the dinosaur exhibit since I'm homeschooling my 5yo son. I had my 1yo and was able to park my stroller outside of a little interactive short movie "thing." Everybody was nice that worked there.
The 4th floor is awesome. If your child is interested in geology or energy.. Definitely take them here. My son is a little too young to really understand things, but he did enjoy looking at everything. We brought our own snacks, and we went outside and sat at one of the tables that is adjacent to the outside of the butterfly exhibit so you could see them flying around inside their habitat. The elevators take so long to take from the garage floor to to the museum floor so if you don't have to use the elevators - don't. We had a stroller so I ended up having to go down the ramp (which they do not want you to do), but they understood we had been waiting.
Definitely check the website to make sure the exhibits are open that you would like to see. We will definitely be back when my son and daughter get a little bit older.
Debbie Sherard
A very nice visit to the museum of science. We did not get to see the exhibit of Ramsay's. They were featuring! It cost more money than we wanted to pay. I was upset. The boys got to see an interactive part of it. I guess that all that mattered.
Elena Guardiola
Went on a middle school field trip. A lot to see and learn. Loved the butterfly exhibit. The kids even had the opportunity to run spacecraft simulation as a group. Very interesting.
Arnold Garza Jr.
Awesome museum. Soo much to see and learn about. Museum guide was very helpful and informative. Favorite part was the mummy exhibit. Will definitely go back next year for King Tut exhibit.
Sasha M
Cockrell Butterfly Center!!! Take your time and discover all the species around this beautiful dome. Be patience and butterflies will stand on you. Highly recommended!!! There are stairs and elevator to reach the place.
Rick Edgell
Had a great time. What a huge variety of displays. Get their early to park on the street for $5 instead of $30 in the garage and you can buy tickets for half price on Groupon.
Ninad Bhagwat
The museum has done a very good if not excellent job acquiring various fossils, gemstones, minerals and interactive displays throughout the building. Even when the third floor was closed when I was there, I still spent an entire day inside. There is so much to see!
Candace Shaidaee
Took the kids to the HNSM while visiting Houston… one of the best Museums we have ever been to see!! There is parking nearby and has easy access to the park and museum. There is so much to do, you could never do it in 2 hours or so as other reviews claim…. Not if you are exploring and reading up on the exhibits. Take your time and enjoy all of the amazing exhibits they have put together. The kids were amazed and especially loved the real dinosaur fossils and reconstructions. Of course the butterfly area was a big hit as well. We can’t say enough good things about this place, or the staff. They went above and beyond to interact with the kids and question them and give them cool facts. Amazing!
Kristen Castaneda
Always a fun time with the family! And so worth it to get a membership if you plan to go often! Went for my husbands birthday this week and we only spent $10! We saw all the normal exhibits and the butterflies as well as a showing in the planetarium!
Dan Simpson
Absolutely love this Museum so much to see and do! Brewology was awesome! Tasting amazing craft beers while looking at dinosaurs was next level! Highly suggest this Museum!
Mansour Al-Amer
One of the best places in Houston.
- Includes wide variety os sections ( Animal Kingdom, Space, mineralogy and Dinosaurs).
- Yes, the Dinasour section was amazing.
- Paid parking is available.
I really loved the place and I highly recommend it.
Diane Vo
We got so caught up with the large Gems exhibit, we had to run through the rest of the museum before they closed. Don't make the same mistake as us. Plan for more then 2 hours if you like to read and slowly make your way around.
Loved their Jade and Gold exhibit as well.
Paul Hemmelhemstead
Great museum! Plenty to see and lots of interesting information to learn from. The exhibits are all really informative. We really enjoyed the mineral/gem exhibit, the Texan wildlife as well as the Hall of Egypt
Sheeba Krishgopal
About the pros, suitable place for school children. Early entry is good so that children can spend good time around and learn a lot. Dinosaurs skeletons which I loved the most and made awe. All kinds of prehistoric man and animals comparison were set up. Unfortunately we were late and couldn’t see the mummies.
Cons: crowded and no social distancing and mask is not mandatory.
Samantha Lopez
Such a great museum everything inside is so beautiful. It has a variety of different options that you can go see. One of my favorites was looking at all the different gems and they were all so pretty.
Christie Perusse
This place was so much more than we ever expected. Our volunteer tour guide, John, I believe, took us on a fantastic learning adventure through all the beautiful trilogies and into and through your Jurassic journey. This will forever be a place we visit on our trips to Houston. Also, we would love to get in touch with our volunteer for some questions if you can please help us.
FIN K
Definitely I want to visit here again especially with my children if I can. My children love this place. Some exhibitions require additional money but worth it, so you should secure many hours for the day of visiting.
Martha D. Taylor
Wonderful Exhibits you cannot see everything in one day. Awesome place to visit. They have cafes and the staff are so kind and helpful very clean bathrooms Mask only if you have not been vaccinated. They will have a special Exhibit for 21 and up on the 3rd floor I have forgotten the date but you can look it up online tickets can be purchased online also. Handicap parking is available as well as ramps do yourself a favor and check it out.
Anna Sanford (Alaska)
Parking is kind of a nightmare in this area, but that's just downtown Houston. This place is a great date idea, or a nice place to take your kids. I went with my siblings as a nostalgia trip and it was still interesting to walk around and see all the stuff. Still cool. Dino DNA.
Emma Fisher
It was a massive museum that covered a really wide selection of topics, and was nicely laid out. Unfortunately I only had a couple of hours in there, it's easily somewhere you could spend and entire day.
Susy
Always fun to see the different exhibits, butterfly center is undergoing remodeling they say until maybe february 2023 (i went nov 2022). Restrooms were clean and super nice.
Magaly Maldonado
I had so much fun and staff are very friendly and helpful. The museum is very clean and people do keep their distance. If you are a member and you park to the attached garage it's around $10 and if you are not a member it's $20.
Kevin Liew
Was reccomended this museam and it didn't dissapoint. I really was mostly there for the paleontology exhibit. I loved the dinosaur fossils they have on display. The taxidermy section was really nice too. But my favourite, though you had to pay extra for, is the butterfly/insect section. The butterfly greenhouse always fills me with wonder. Just make sure to give yourself a lot of time and come early. There is always far too many things to look at and not enough time. I hope to come back again one day!
Chula Shula
Nice exhibits, however the Egyptian portion on the 3rd floor was close. It was not mentioned during purchase of tickets. But still enjoyable.
Charlie Dixon-Green
Incredible selection of skeletons, fossils, specimens, shells and crystals. We were blown away by the central exhibit hall dinosaurs especially! Good food and coffee available on site too.
Clint Kingsbery
I'm so impressed with this museum. I've been going for over 30 years and it always is a joyful experience. Got to share it with my wife and son who both really liked the Ramsay's exhibit. Son did the VR thing and said it was worth it.
Cristina P. Zepeda
LOVED IT. It was really great to educate myself on science, fossils, mammals, history itself, and many more stuff. I will be definitely coming back. The museum closes in the afternoon so it's best to be there in the morning. I got the coolest souvenirs at the museum souvenir shop also including fossils 🦕 …
Petrut Iordachescu
Plenty stuff to blow your mind.
Petrified forest is a must in my opinion. So is the gem section.
'Stan' is a must see beauty of a tyrannosaurus rex.
The oil and energy exhibition is pretty awesome if you're a gear head and want to know how "go-go juice" is made.
All in all there's something for everyone.
Please note 'the pretty butterflies' are not included in the price but a mere $4 pp.
Karthick S S
Very good place. Good to spend time for both children and adults. They have numerous collections and different varieties. There are lot of different places to visit but extra fee for few exhibitions. We enjoyed a lot and almost spent whole day on the museum. It's expensive but worth the price. Parking fee is separate and not included in the admission fee. Dinosaur and stone exhibit are the best. Highly recommend it.
James Daley
The museum is a magical place. Truly fantastic and free on Thursdays!!! I love that there is something for everyone there, and I see new exhibits everytime I go. I can't wait to go back!!!
Abhishek Jakhar
Enjoyed this place a lot. It will take 2-3 hrs to cover whole museum. Parking can be challenge, I would suggest to go with paid parking if you are with kids as free parking too far away from museum. Buy ticket from website to save time. All the floors have something unique to see.
Kimberly Cotton
It was an awesome experience there was so much to see. I would definitely recommend this Museum and I would definitely love to go back .
Samantha Garland
Such a great museum! Everyone that works here is so knowledgeable and excited about what they do. Best museum I've been to in awhile. They definitely are kid focused.
B P
My partner and I really enjoyed exploring this museum. There was so much to see and so little time to truly absorb all the information. My favorite part of the exhibits were the Egyptian and Crystal exhibits.
Roz -A-lyn
At the museum was great we actually went to the Ramsey's the great exhibit and we were able to get the additional entrance for the regular permanent exhibits which was really nice Ramsey is a great went on and on and it was terrific and definitely worth the price I 100% would recommended to anybody who's interested
Meggers McClain
Went with my husband and two kids (5 and 14) on a Tuesday afternoon. The museum wasn't over crowded and there was plenty of parking. We were somewhat dismayed to find out that the Egyptian display that was advertised on the building was not included in the general admission, and neither were several other sections. We very much enjoyed the mineral and gem display though, as well as the large exhibit of dinosaur bones. However, it was very difficult to find your way around this museum. Overall, we enjoyed it, but might not go again.
Cassandra NightThunder
The price of admission was really high but since they closed at 5pm and we got there at 3pm we were able to get in free which was completely unexpected! A lot of the exhibits are under construction so we were not able to see anything on the Egyptian level but we saw part of the dinosaurs and all of the energy on the 4th floor which was cool. There is also a huge museum store as well which was nice. I do recommend going here if in Houston but make sure you bring money and then extra money for all the other exhibits you have to pay for. Very expensive!
Esther Kim
Great butterfly exhibit. Highly recommended. The gem collection is also excellent. There are Russian Fabergé Eggs, Taiwan carved jade collection, and lots of cool exhibits.
Albert Marquez
Nice museum but think it could be a little better. The butterfly center is nice however when we went there weren’t many butterflies like before. The 3d theater was ok except we say a dinosaur 🦕 move which was a little boring. The parts with the dinosaurs was cool but the part with the scientists exploring antártica was a bit boring. The dino fossils were cool. Overall a nice museum but for a large city like Houston it could be a bit better.
Ishtar Aladeen
There are so many exhibits that it takes more than 1 day to see it all. And that's not even including the traveling exhibits. The Egyptian exhibit was well worth the price.
Tiffany P
This is a great museum with excellent and well- maintained exhibits. We are members so we tend to focus on a few exhibits each visit vs the entire museum
On this particular visit we enjoyed the butterfly dome, permanent Egypt exhibit and non-permanent King Tut exhibit and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Our only issue with this museum is the terrible cafe and lack of seating. It has overpriced and poor quality food, (burgers, hot dog or chicken tenders) members are given a 10% discount on food but the register for members is unmanned so it's an unfulfilled member perk. There are also not enough sitting areas or tables outside the cafe so we opted to eat on the floor with other museum guests.
Val
I was able to catch the limited time special exhibit Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs. It was absolutely amazing. I spent nearly 5 hours just exploring the temporary exhibit and the permanent Egyptian exhibits.
The Paleontology exhibit was very cool.
One of my favorite experiences was a quick little 20 minute show called Passport to the Universe. Definitely worth the time.
Unfortunately I was very disappointed in the Starry Night Express show. Not worth the time or money.
Leon and Erin Coe
WEDDING VENUE REVIEW: We absolutely loved working with Joe to make our magical reception (June 11) at the museum perfect! He was so responsive, very up front about expectations and availability and so flexible when we needed to look at multiple dates to align with our church ceremony. We had our reception in the Paleo Hall with about 150 guests. We chose to have the dance floor in the middle with tables surrounding. Our caterer (Masraff's) suggested high-top tables for the back walkway, which we placed our younger guests at, and it worked perfectly! Nearly all of our guests commented on how it was the best wedding they've ever been to, and I contribute that all to Joe, the Museum, and Brooke and the Masraff's catering team. We were slightly concerned about the lengthy walk from the wheelchair parking to the Paleo Hall, but Joe met our grandparents outside with a fleet of wheel chairs to whisk them away like VIP guests! Truly above and beyond service! Joe was happy to accommodate multiple venue visits during the planning process and day of ensured all our vendors had the access they needed. He was also so giving with advice and stories of what has and hasn't worked in the past. The moment I saw the Paleo Hall, I knew it was the place, and my husband and I could not have been happier with how the night unfolded. If I could give them more than five stars I would!
Karl Planken
One of the best museums I have ever been too, Took my girlfriend on a date here and I’ve decided to buy the family membership because it was so amazing. We looked for almost 3 hours and still didn’t even have time to see everything! There is so much too look at. Some of the exhibits were closed for renovations so you can bet we’re going back once it’s completed!
Leslie Brooks
I wish all the exhibits were open or they would say when they will reopen. But this museum is incredible. We bought an annual membership after just one visit. Easy to find parking nearby. Can’t wait to spend more time here.
I wish the city of Houston would invest in revitalizing the area to draw in more restaurants and make it a real destination, right now the community is pretty run down and it can feel pretty sketchy once you leave the museum.
Brandi Hazen
The Egypt experience was incredible! The additional VR Dave is definitely worth the price. Parking was better outside the park, we were able to get parking a block away for cheaper and walk in. Had a great family day!
alan fernandes
Loved this museum. My favorite section was the hall of ancient Egypt. It took us a full day to explore the main museum, without looking at the special sections. The tickets cost us 25 dollars and the museum was well worth the visit.
Edward Folse
It's always a treat to come here in the evening. They light the interior nicely and there is just something special about seeing it without all the crowds.
Most recently, we went to the Beautifica show at the Planetarium. I've forgotten how cool productions can be for that venue. Now we are planning to have a throwback visit to see the Dark Side of the Moon.
Samson Jesudass
The Rameses exhibit was spectacular. Never thought the virtual tour of Abu simbel would be so awesome. Spend less time at the start as the exhibits at the back take much longer. If you love antiquities , you will spend the whole day here.
Tony Combs
This place is great! It would an awesome place for a cheap day trip. If you are staying in the area a few days, buy a city pass Houston. Allows you to visit multiple places over seberL days.
Michael Cooper
Very popular spot with lots of crowds! Always packed with families and spectators. The butterfly exhibit is unmatched and definitely worth a visit.
LUIS MELO
An excellent place not only for adults, but also for your kids! The energy room, and the Paleontology room are on of the best. The mineral area is also spectacular.
Vivian Cheng
I come to the museum shop for the most wonderful gifts for friends and family. Their team curates an excellent selection of gifts at reasonable prices. I love finding one of a kind gifts for kids in my family here. Have you seen the jewelry selection? I’m blown away by the variety of modern artists they carry. I love discovering new jewelry designers. They also have such elegant displays. The retail team were so much fun to shop with, they are knowledgeable and make the shopping experience entertaining. I was able to find gifts across all budgets.
Sal “SAL & BEE” Galdamez
Enlightening family wholsome fun for all ages. From the Butterfly museum, Imax to different theme show cases, your bound to find one you'll enjoy. Absolutely a must see if your visiting Houston.
Crystal Cordoves
I enjoyed coming here. We've been twice in less than a month and still haven't seen everything yet. I love the Cockrell Butterfly exhibit. Can't wait to go back.
Kim Evans
This is such a beautiful space. I saw the Ramses Exhibit and it is breathtaking. Highly recommend. The staff were very helpful. It was a bit crowded for a Sunday afternoon buy the weather was beautiful as well.
Sarah Huie
Expensive, but worth the amount of time it takes to go through, took about two hours. We paid for butterfly exhibit as well and while that was interesting, not actually worth buying a separate ticket in my opinion.
Adraina Parsons
This was a great experience during our vacation. I would highly recommend for all ages. We were a little disappointed that we didn't find out that level 3 was closed until we got off the elevator, but we will make a trip back once it is complete.
NICKY Pierre
Wonderful, educational...need more than 1 day to explore. Tha Kidd luved the gravity pendulum, fossils, dinosaurs, giant squid...3D movie was excellant. Day 2 minerals, earth shifting plates, oil drilling & Black Holes at planetarium!!! Will most definitely return for butterflies, King Tut, more movies! 👍👦
Shine Thomas
One of the best place I visited during my trip to Texas. Huge museum with a whole lot of artifact's, which including fosils, skeletons, mummy's and also other historical artifacts like statutes. It's for sure is a great walk back in history and thanks to the management, that they have kept the place really neat and clean and preserved it all really well.
Eureka Moment
Great time had by all. We went to see the King Ramsey exhibit. Very cool ! Highly recommended to go!
Margaret Spangenberg
Beautiful collections, the butterfly exhibit was stunning. My kids loved talking with the volunteers almost as much as the stunning natural wonders.
Andrew Amie
This place is crazy, there's so much to see I probably took 700 photos of the place and still didn't even manage to capture it all in them because there's just so much that my phone went dead before I could.
Lots of people kept trying to touch the butterflies also though when they explicitly tell you not to so you don't accidentally hurt them, don't be one of those people.
David Solis
Had a great experience at the museum. I haven't been there in over 20yrs so it looked a lot different than what I remembered. I think my nephew really enjoyed it.
Jeanette Smith
The museum is huge. It would have taken hours to see it all. We were on a time limit, so we spent most of our time at the Body Worlds area, can't remember the name. It was pricy to go to that area, as it is not included in the general ticket. For 3 it was an additional $57 since we had the city pass. Will visit again for the Under Sea area or the Space area. I am sure it is an additional cost though.
bonni perry
Went to the body works exhibit, so cool! Also loved the gems, and jewelry..was pretty busy, waters were 3$ and couldn't take them in most of the museum..highly recommend!!!
Chrispy Johnson
Amazing collection of history and a multi-cultural gathering of artifacts and exhibits aimed towards educating a wide age range of observers. Accommodating, courteous, friendly and through. *NOTE ALL ADD ONS INCLUDING MAIN EXHIBITS COST$$$ BEYOND YOUR MAIN ENTRY TICKET. Even after using member passes for entry still spent around 150$ for full access to exhibits. Recommended but be aware. History ain't cheap son!
DOMWILLKILL212
It was worth the price. The museum was amazing. The souvenir shops are fantastic. The exhibits were to die for. So worth going twice in one day.
A. Mérida
Well worth your time to visit! I spent HOURS here and could’ve spent hours more. Gives you some perspective on our history as a species, and even as living beings.
Nathaniel Curtis
The dinosaur exhibit was an unexpected delight along with The Pharaoh Rameses the Third exhibition. Everyone will totally enjoy the theater also. The theater is utterly amazing.
Ashley Elliott
We were able to see all of it besides the part where there were dinosaurs. We will be back to see the remaining. My husband and I enjoyed it VERY much. There was just so much to explore before closing.
The planetarium is a MUST!
Benjamin Wolfe
This museum is "can't miss." This is my favorite museum that I've ever visited. Dinosaurs, Ancient Egypt, Gems, Native American exhibits. Absolutely amazing. We live in Michigan and dream about coming back for years. Also, pro tip: free hours 2-5 on Thursdays!
Marilyn Lukomski
My visiting son bought our tickets in advance and our favorite part was the butterfly museum. We had not been there since he was a child and he wanted to share with his fiancee. Also loved the minerals/gems and dinosaurs/fossils.
William Blair
The attraction is the exhibits. After all these years, they still struggle with large crowds, probably selling too many special exhibition tickets. Try to come on less busy days. The McDonald's restaurant is no more; what replaced it would go out of business outside of the museum in a week. So eat beforehand, or plan to afterwards.
Beth Daws
Awesome museum! Unfortunately when we went both the Chemistry and Ancient Egypt exhibits were closed for repairs. Still, it took us over 4 hours to see the rest of the main exhibits (if you actually want to read all of the information). You could easily spend over an hour in the Dinosaur/Fossil exhibit alone. There are lots of cool things to see, and a few cool selfie shot opportunities if that's something of importance to you.
We did not do the Butterfly Garden or see any of the movies, but if you add those on this could easily be an all day experience for those who want to enjoy what the museum has to offer. Sitting opportunities are pretty minimal in the exhibits, so definitely wear comfortable shoes if you plan to do more than a speed run of the museum. It can get pretty loud in the Energy exhibit since it's more interactive and geared towards kids. Depending on your preferences that could either be a benefit or something worth avoiding all together.
If we lived in the greater Houston area we would definitely come back for the rotating exhibits, I think they did such an excellent job with the Pompeii feature. Unfortunately we don't live nearby, but I would encourage both locals and tourists who enjoy museums to come experience this one at least once.
Lorena Silvestri
So much to see!! Great place to spend the day the kids. Very interactive exhibits will keep them wanting more.
Cristhina Boni Lavratti
It is impossible not to like this museum. Even if you don’t like museums, you will like this one, because the way they displayed the objects is very interesting and it gets our attention. For example, the “fake” animals are not just there. They created this scenario, with sounds and put the animals interacting with each other. Like fighting, hunting, playing, etc. But of course they don’t move, just some of them with mechanical movements. Also, the room with rocks and other things is dark and they are displayed separately (most of them) with light focusing on them. Which is very cool, as we can see the different colours and shapes.
The section with dinosaurs is incredible! So so many of them. Different species. They are displayed with their “real sizes”. And again, interacting with each other.
Overall, it was an amazing experience. But come prepared to walk a lot, and be standing for many hours.
Also, read at least the info about the dinosaurs. It is really interesting and some of them funny!
Highly recommended!!!
Robert McLymore
Houston Museum or Natural Science was nice. A lot of information in this no Museum. If you’re into space and science definitely give this museum a visit.
Officer Negative
Really nice museum. It's unfortunate that most of the cool exhibits are extra money. The family had fun still.
Kenny Ng
Need at least 3 hrs. Purchased tickets from TripAdvisor is cheaper. Onsite parking is expensive $20, recommend part somewhere else. Recommend have your lunch before visiting, limited option in the food court. Overall, a must visit place in Houston.
Jody Ricottone
Did I spend most my time in the butterfly house? Definitely! It was truly a great experience (even if it was annoying to watch people manhandle butterflies). It is a large museum with great exhibits. The NASA items at the planetarium were super cool!
I advise pre-booking tickets, especially on a weekend as it can be quite busy!
Joe Dierkhising
One of my favorite museums in Houston. They have some great exhibits: ancient Egypt, mesoamerica, energy, paleontology. They also have imax nature and science movies, butterfly and insect exhibit, and a planetarium.
Petrice Antoine (Niki)
We got the late but we’re able to see so much. I definitely recommend getting there with a couple hrs to spare, you’ll want to see everything. I went on Thursday and was pleasantly surprised that it was free!
Troy Goldman
I saw the King Tut Experience. Little disappointed.. Lots of pictures, slideshows, and remakes. I don't think any of it was actually from Egypt, though. I guess that's the difference between an experience and a exhibit. I would have been just as happy with the History Channel.
Starr Parmley
I think this may be the best museum that I have been to. No need to buy any extras. Give yourself at least 5-6 hours if you like to read/learn. Excellent.
Jodie Bunn
Fabulous experience! We became members! Soooo much to see and do! The kids really enjoyed the butterflies in the rainforest exhibit!
rafiq kattangere
Nice place for a days trip. Loved the planetarium and the large screen movie theatre. The sea shells collection is mesmerising. My kids liked the dino floor and the 3 rd floor where lot of science projects were on display. You will find ample parking space and good food joints around that area. Couldn’t go to butterfly park.
Beth Adkins
Half museum was closed. Gift shop had no adult t shirts. All children t-shirts. Somewhat disappointed I didn't get to see the butterfly exhibit I heard so much about.
Marcella Cano
Definitely fun to continue to visit. The ramses exhibit was amazing. I enjoyed the King Tut exhibit as well
Alvin Peterson
Tut exhibit was great! The museum is in a great location. Lots to see and do. Good number of quick bites close by for lunch or snacks.
Pro tip: Parking in the garage that’s connected to the building is $30 if you’re not a member. It’s much cheaper to park in the nearby public garage, and it’s free to park in the street if you can find an open space.
Wynter Rouse
This museum utilizes it's space super efficiently. I expected to blow through it and find something else to do afterwards. Not happening. There is TONS of stuff to see inside just the permanent exhibits. It's an amazing venue. While most of the water fountains are closed the water bottle filler on the main floor is open to refill your cups or bottles. The food was kinda expensive (expected that from a museum) but for 2.50 you can get a nice portion of fries if you just need a little snacky snack. I tried to include a photo from each area so you can get an idea of what is in the permanent exhibit.
Rachel Thompson
This place was great! We loved the Pompeii exhibit. We also went to some of the permanent exhibits the jewels, animals, and Weiss hall. It was interactive and informative and we definitely needed more than one day. We were bummed to at the chemistry was under renovation and that the planetarium and butterflies were not considered permanent and would have cost more money for tickets. I’d love to have seen an all exhibit discounted ticket. There was only one place to get food and it was extremely limited but it tasted good. Look forward to returning again at some point.
Candace Johnson
I was really impressed with how well the animals looked...I mean Taxidermy was at its finest...didn't get to see the Egyptian exhibit without buying tickets to see Ramses exhibit even tho we had Family Pass...and the elevator broke other than that we had a lovely time😁 …
Maker Cuisine
What an incredible museum, so much to see with even just the permanent exhibits. Beautifully curated and maintained. So much to see, would recommend it to anyone. And its right next to so much more. The park, gardens and zoo all within a few minutes. There is parking available in the park that is free or you can pay for the parking garage
Chelsea Vasquez
Great museum!! Lots to do and look at if you live in the area or close enough the membership is totally worth it. Each special exhibit was an additional cost.
Joachim Aeilkema
Interesting to see dinosaurs and animals. Also shells, minerals and gemstones. Saw a movie in the theater, looks like "Omniversum" in The Hague, but better because of newer technology.
Gabrielle Cressman
Great place for children and adults alike! The exhibits are very engaging for all. The dinosaur exhibit is a fan favorite. The Pompeii exhibit was really interesting and had great special effects.
Note that parking on-site fills up very quickly and costs $20. If you're hoping for on-site parking, I'd recommend getting there before 10 am on a week day.
María Luna
We came to visit last summer the experience was amazing my son love dinosaurs and seeing all the dinosaurs skeletons was amazing.
Danielle DiMaggio
Great museum, lots to see and overall a good place to stop if your visiting Houston. Kid friendly but does get crowded.
Jennifer
One of the best dinosaur exhibits I've seen, the pterodactyl were amazing! Very clean, spacious, and fun time! The butterfly exhibit was worth it as well!
joseph adkins
It is reasonably priced and has a lot of good Experiences. You could make a whole day of it but should definitely split it up into about two, maybe three days.
Tierra
Definitely get a Groupon first!
I wouldn't recommend going in the summer. We had to find parking elsewhere because they had summer camp going on and only let summer camp people park in the garage. We walked over from down the street at the medical center.
Definitely look at the exhibits before you go. They have permanent exhibits and limited ones you do have to pay extra for. Which is really confusing because you think once you buy a ticket you can see everything but you can't
If you bought your ticket online you can just go up and enter the museum. They do have a kiosks where you can get tickets. You will have to show your tickets eveytime you go into a different exhibit.
Overall i liked it. My son loves dinosaurs so he was excited! They do have teachers in the exhibits that will tell you more about the exhibits elwhen you walk around.
We didn't get to do everything so we will be back for more.
Roxanne Ogneru
It lost 2 stars bc they nickle & dime you for every single exhibit. Pretty silly I think ! Although this museum is huge, every level had exhibits that you have to pay extra for. That's a little silly! We travel a lot & never quite encountered this kind of thing.
Marlon Abreu
This is one of the best experience for all family you can have in all Houston area. They even have 3 T-Rex! The got it all: triceratops, Megalodon jaws, trilobites, mastodons, ancient humans even a replica of the famous Lucy. They also have one exposition about drilling technology thorough time and that's to come for future times, and a couple of machines a la Disney for traveling through a oil well and even the centre of the Earth. The only thing was that the Egyptian section was close at the time, although we managed to take a picture of a mummy for afar 😄. Very clean and cared, restroom in prestine conditions and the 2 cafeterias are superb with very competitive prices for places of the same segment. They have an excellent discount program actually all adults tickets got child's price ticket that day. My son loved it. It is an unforgettable and educational experience for all family I recommend it 100% with real pleasure.
Ana N
Awesome. Spectacular the collection of fossils and gems and minerals. The Cockrell Butterfly Center is a magical place!. I loved this museum.
Tracee Beneke
Spent five hours there
There's so much to look at and see. Did butterfly center, planetarium and Ramses exhibit which was additional to basic entrance fee. If you love natural history, you'll absolutely love this museum.
Christina Mantas
Incredible! Took 3 days to get through 🤯
Day 1: Paleontology and Gems
Day 2: Planetarium, Butterflies, & Americas
Day 3: Egypt and King Tut
There is a little cafeteria and coffee shop inside: I definitely used that as a break between exhibits.
Beautiful and well done museum with interactive pieces throughout.
Sidenote: It IS pricey: BUT, there are discounts available for teachers, students, first responders, military, and EBT recipients. 🦋
Nhung Le
The Museum is free on Thursday from 2-5pm and it exhibits beautiful gems, lots of fossils, shells and dinosaurs and lots of other things. Right now it also has it also has King Tut's tomb exhibition for a limited time.
Justin James
Always a great experience at the HMNS… finally saw ancient Egypt for the first time (since the Ramses exhibit finally ended) and it definitely added the “missing link” to my museum experience at HMNS. My kids love it, we love it and we will continue to renew and enjoy our membership. I highly recommend this as an attraction if you’re in town with your kids.
Maryann Thompson
Great museum!! Lots to do and look at if you live in the area or close enough the membership is totally worth it.
Jay Wilson
This place is awesome to visit for small and big families from all ages. They also have theaters where you can watch movies and learn about science and different things as well at different times throughout the day. Keep in mind of the time of their clothing because they do not play they kick people out when it's time to close so make sure you have plenty of time to go through the whole museum because it is pretty big with four levels.
Mike Young
Hands down one of the best museums we've ever been to. Seriously consider getting a membership if you live anywhere near close as it's cheaper than one visit if you have more than a couple people. The dinosaur exhibit alone is worth the entire museum.
Erico Marrero
A lot of butterflies as well as peoples. It was very hot in some of the areas but cool and fresh in orders, I liked the experience.
Saad Khan
Excellent exhibits and worth a whole day’s trip. Wasn’t able to see the planetarium and quite a few exhibits are currently closed (November 2021) due to renovations but there’s plenty that are open.
The butterfly exhibit is also very cool!
Free entry on Thursday’s between 2-5pm
Bryan Reynolds
As always the Houston Museum of Natural Science never fails to amaze. From 3D interactive video experiences. Well put together exhibits. Rare collections and special displays. To temporary and traveling exhibits. Always well put together and a joy to explore and learn. Unfortunately the Egyptian exhibits were closed for updating and remodeling.
Zachary Phillips
Went to the Ramesses II exhibit today and it was so worth it. My first time to the museum and they have so much more there in house. Will have to make many trips to see all the other parts of the museum.
Jazmine Nicole
Rich was knowledgeable about EVERYTHING there. Great guy. I loved the 3 real mummies in the Egypt part.
Teri Fonda
This is the best museum I have ever been to. It's so interactive. Pay the extra and go to the butterfly 🦋 exhibit
H Arabie
King Tut exhibit today was just incredible! I put in a couple of videos of the Egyptian Hall that is a permanent exhibit. Become a member! We have used the discounts and the price for parking will only be $10.
Anna Mae Remaneses
If you have kids this is definitely a must see if you’re visiting Houston. The museum itself was fun especially the dinosaurs part. The only downside is you have to pay extra if you wanted to see exhibits that are not part of the general admission. The parking is limited but there is a parking garage that you have to pay 20$ for which I think was quite expensive.
Sean McGillis
Only had a little bit of time to spend but really enjoyed the butterfly 🦋 exhibit. Nice place, friendly staff. Good refreshments. Nice time. …
Joseph Worrell
Me and my 2yr old grandson had a blast, this was his first visit! The Dinosaur exhibit was truly amazing, Bravo!!👏👏👏
Ar Monsanto
I went to see the King Tut exhibit on a Thursday when admission is free after 2pm. The extra ticket was only $10. I so enjoyed the exhibit. I didn’t park in the garage because there’s plenty of street parking for a fraction of the cost and if the weather is nice it’s better to walk the neighborhood. Construction was happening during my visit. For example the butterfly exhibit wasn’t available and a few others but worth the visit if you live in houston or are visiting.
David Hathaway
We enjoy the standing collections, but we go for the exhibitions. This time, it was Pompeii. It was very well done.
.
A new delight was the Cabinet of Curiosities that showcases oddball items that a Victorian may have collected. Some were cool, like a drawer of eggs, while others were bizarre, like the two-faced goat.
.
We also spent much time in the Texas exhibit. The light cycles to simulate times of day, do you can see what animals are active when. Neat
.
We have enjoyed the food in the past, as well as the theater. We filled out day without those this time.
.
Least enjoyable is parking. Street parking is scant and garage parking is expensive. Hi early to make the all-day rate reasonable ) it still won't be).
Sohaira Martinez
There's so much to see!! Totally worth the trip but come with time to spend. The museum is pretty big. It's been super hot lately so doing indoors was the way to go. I fell in love with the stones/gem/diamond collection. There's dinosaurs, shells, diamonds, gems, etc.
Sofia Arrieta
Kinda of disappointed. The whole 3rd floor is closed to the public and it was the floor we were most looking forward to. We were able to do all the permanent exhibits in 2hrs and everything else you had to pay an up charge to see.
Brianna Rud
This place was AMAZING. We had the best of time with the butterflies and saw an iguana too! 4 levels of collections (gems, jewelery, dinosaur stuff, coastal and Texas wildlife exhibit, and an "educational" floor all about drilling for oil) I have to say, every museum or community thing I've been to, Texas glamorizes oil drilling. But that's not what this post is truly about. The 3rd floor was closed to the public for reno which had the Egyptian artifacts!! We also enjoyed a show about black holes in the planetarium. Entry into the building is free, but if you want to do anything within the building it all costs money.. $95 for two, to do all the things and pick one planetarium show. Very interactive and a great place to get away.
Samantha Gomez
I felt like a kid touring this place definitely worth the $25 ticket just the paleontology section alone was amazing.
Anicia Browning
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience at The Museum of Natural Science in Houston. The range of both scientific, and historical, knowledge; along with the interactive exhibits makes the trip worth it whether it's a family outing or a school group field trip.
Jim c
Must visit place those who love history and science. Kids and adults will love it . Well maintained museum.
DIANE LLOYD
As native Houstonians, we've visited the Houston Museum of Natural Science numerous times; each time is better than the previous!
From land, space, and sea, what an incredible day of discovery and exploration for visitors of all ages! Forever grateful for the beauty of nature and the wonder and delight of science.❤
My Reviews
a great museum, not too childish at all. the canned agua fresca is $4 at the cafe and the butterfly center was closed. there were no clear signs of where the Japanese Garden was, and it wasn't that impressive.
Nick Gradoville
If you haven't been, you must go try this place out. One of the coolest places I've been since the Smithsonians. Great for all ages.
Arnold Chu
A well designed museum with easy to navigate floors. The permanent exhibitions are more than enough to keep you busy for a day. The dinosaur fossils were the best of course.
Patricia Maldonado
Had a great time with my 13 yr old daughter considering..lol! Finding parking is tough but allow yourself some time. We parked on other side of the McGovern park and walked about 5min. Museum was packed in lobby but once in Exhibit wasnt too Bad! Definitely but tickets online and have on phone for easy access. Employees were very nice and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the Body Works Exhibit. Took us about 1hr to look at and read thru different viewings. There is a food place inside but it was very busy and crowded. Again 1st day of Spring break! It was fun to walk around outside. You can find free parking or pay in garage.
vic “Banana” C
SO many crystals truly beautiful I was unable to see the Egyptian floor but everything else was awesome including the gift shop. The labradorite table
Heather Guree
Worth the money. Spent about 5 hours here & would love to go back, when the butterfly 🦋 expo is opened up again
Moriah Smith
Always a wonderful place to visit. It was a crowded summer afternoon, but it's always spacious and plenty to look at. Went into the Pompeii exhibit and they truly make the experience memorable. I'm eager to see the exhibit of Body Works before it leaves Houston. I suggest buying tickets online, coming in earlier since it closes at 6pm, and never skip out on the Butterfly Exhibit.
Genevieve Fernando
This was recommended as one of the best things to do when I only have 2 days in Houston... gained more information and knowledge about where I came from. I am still here!!
thomas samuel
Houston Museum of Natural Sciences is in Hermann Park. It consists of 4 floors. There are Gems and minerals, Skeltons of Dinosaurs, Energy Hall displaying oil exploration, ancient Egyptian civilization etc. It will take 3 to 4 hours to go around the museum.
byron varnado
Thus place is as awesome as it was when I was a child. Took the family and we all found something to be amazed by. I'd buy tickets ahead of time if you plan to see king tuts tomb. We didn't get to see that due to our schedule and thier availability. Totally my fault for not checking in advance.
Tabitha Lang
This is a wonderful place for a solo day out, a cute couples date, or a family adventure! There's a fun number game to play with the butterflies, a turtle habitat and I'm pretty sure an iguana. (I don't know if that's the right reptile for sure)
Don't forget to look up while you're inside and gaze at the flutter of butterflies!
M Kaderbhai
Really great experience. Found a great deal for the main exhibit via Groupon.
Satnam Singh
It was good experience visiting Science Museum, Initially I thought it won’t worth spending money but at the end, I changed my perception , it was actually worthwhile. Got to know about really cool stuff like Gems, Shells, History of Dinosaurs, Energy tools and techniques and at the end about Ancient Egypt. It was really cool experience, will recommend to everyone to visit at least once if you are in Houston..
Violeta Ruiz
I bought membership for my kids and they are so happy. We want to come every weekend and see something new every time.
Jose Martinez
This is a very good place to visit with your family, we spent about 2 hours there and we enjoyed 100% is wonderful I definitely recommend this place to everyone
JaLia S.
Great experience!!! There are 4 levels to explore including the special showcase which is on the 3rd floor that is extra $$. Everything was organized well and displayed for multiple people to view items.
Jeff Gill
Always fun and great for the kids. Busy but not too crowded.
Maralee Wilhite
My company Shareholder & Awards dinner in Wiess Hall was a monumental success all thanks to Joe Cyrus! I have coordinated multiple events at many different venues but this was my first experience with THMNS and Joe made it seamless and so much fun! He answered every question and even gave me options I didn't know I would need! He listened and offered clear instructions with prompt email responses!
Joe Cyrus is so professionally poised and in control of every aspect of planning the event, from catering suggestions to guest management. I never once felt like this was not going to be a success! Joe, left no stone unturned and made sure I felt ( even as the company coordinator) as the most important person in the room! He went above and beyond from keeping my guest entertained while I tied up last minute details before the cocktail hour to making sure I had a place to park and unload safely.
The comfort it provides in knowing there is an event director who not only knows how to make your event a success but CARES that your event is a success is PRICELESS. I would come back a million times!
I truly thank Joe Cyrus and the THMNS team for making this very important event A SMASHING SUCCESS!
Susan Brown
It was amazing. I went with my family which includes a 12 year old and an 8 year old. They both found things that they were interested in and we had so much fun. It is definitely a must see we went on a Saturday and it wasn't to busy we spent about two and a half hours there.
Russell Stambaugh
This is a terrific museum. The fascinating Pompeii visiting exhibit is about to move on, but was worth the trip all my itself. Houston has an absolutely top flight mineral collection, exquisitely illuminated, too. Also, a wonderful collection of sea shells.
Raymond Garrido
Don’t really like museums but I love ancient Egypt and came to the Ramses exhibit. I was completely floored at how good it was! Their permanent ancient Egypt exhibit was also super impressive and w a lot of really fascinating artifacts I’ve never seen before. The grand finale was the virtual reality experience by Positron of Ramses the great’s temples at Abu Simbel. I felt like I was there and the chair moved and had smells incorporated into the experience that transported me there. I got goosebumps! So good I did it twice!
Christopher Bucknor
Great experience. The curators did excellent work on specimens. The catalog is extensive and could easily spend an entire day traversing the four floors. Some exhibits were closed for renovations but still plenty to see and experience. The level of nerdium is off the charts. The curators were on hand to describe and give interesting tidbits regarding exhibits which enhanced the experience.
Jerome Janét Sr
The jewelry was amazing. Buy a city pass and save money. You can also visit other museums in the area on the pass.
Nick M
Just so cool. Staff was great and helpful as well. Had a gentleman see us looking at the dinosaurs and gave us a tiny little tour with a ton of info. The kids were absolutely enthralled and we learned things that were different from when we went to school as well that had been discovered. All in all a great experience. If you're going through the place quickly it'll take you a couple hours at least. Do yourself a favor and take your time and read on things and really capture everything presented though. Could easily spend an entire day here. Just with the butterfly exhibit was free.
Monica Prado
We absolutely had so much fun and learning on our recent visit at Museum of Natural Science. We just recently got our membership and we are loving it so much. It gives you parking discounts and also discount to the special exhibitions! Pompeii: The Exhibition experience was fabulous!! We had 4 kids from 1 to 8 years old and they all enjoyed it.
Stellar Insight (Mick)
The exhibits were fascinating and very informative. The dinosaur exhibit is very extensive, the gem exhibition is really beautiful and the curiosities exhibit was pretty cool and creepy
Tanya Zhou
This is one of our most favorite museums of all time. Definitely plan ahead to get some discounted tickets as everything costs extra (butterflies, traveling exhibits, planetarium and 3d films) but it is amazing!
Rachael Ramirez
The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because they don't have the butterfly house up and running. Otherwise, my kids and I enjoyed our visit. It was the first time we saw the Trains Over Texas exhibit and it was incredible!! I also paid for the King Tut exhibit and it was amazing. Being an educator, it was important for my own kids to see a visual along with what they've been taught in school. If you can afford to see it, please do! You will not regret paying.
We're members so the cost to enter and park were membership prices along with the exception of the King Tut exhibit.
Gowri
Great museum!!
Must see place in Houston area. Big museum, liked looking at the gems section and the dinosaur area. Ticket prices very reasonable given the museum size and collection.
Mango
Really cool, loved the gems vault. Energy Floor was really educational but most of their interactive exhibits aren't operating right now. The planetarium showing felt WAY longer than 20 minutes! It was a really cool experience. I saw Passport to the Universe 10/10. The butterfly garden was beautiful, butterflies weren't very active around 5 pm but we still saw all kinds hanging around. We got food from the Elements restaurant which was surprisingly good quality. The whole time was a great use of our $$$
H0ney c
Beautiful, fun, and interesting. My kids enjoyed every exhibit we seen.. I myself loved the gems and stones. It was nice to people watch and enjoy the Company and all the happiness and smiles.
Yaw Ansah
This place is breathtaking! My kids absolutely loved it. And I legit felt like I was the one who needed this tour. I had never been in a museum, so I took time to take in all the amazing scenery. Would definitely come back!
elizabeth cantu
I want to give this place one star so that nobody else visits, as the place is always super busy, but I love this museum there's always something new to see. Seriously though make sure that you get tickets ahead of time especially for the weekends.
i_t_s_e_g_o_69
Awesome place to visit. The permanent exhibits never seize to amaze me. There's always a few new exhibits you can explore for an additional cost. Butterflies are also a must when we go. I was a little sad to see the McDonald's inside was no longer there, however the new food station didn't disappoint with their selection and taste. 10/10 would recommend for a family outing, first date, or just a day to yourself.
Reductoras Fajas Colombianas
The Dinosaurs 🦕 exhibit was great. . The T-rex Victoria and the others really nice. I think better than the N.Y. exhibit . You must go. See some of my pictures. 25$ by adult …
Sunchaser Nguyen
Nice way to walk around for a Sunday afternoon. The sea shell and dem stone sections are really pretty.
Butters
Great museum, but the king Tut exhibit is a massive rip off. It is only photos and projections with replicas. You don’t get to see the real deal. Very disappointing
Derek Gantt
Glad to finally visit HMNS and explore the permament exhibits (luckily had discount on tickets). Many interesting displays on Texas wildlife, Native American art and crafts, dinosaurs, gems, and more. Seems like more of a natural history museum than a "science" museum. Came here around 1pm on Saturday and it was crowded. As for parking, decided to use the museum parking garage, which was convenient and is connected to the museum, but was almost full and we had to go up to the top to find a space. Staffer at the box office was informative and nice and also helped us pay for parking there. Museum store had many Christmas and seasonal items. Good experience here.
Natasha Danielle
Amazing museum!! You can spend hours there!! There is a lot too see and explore.
Kayla Jack
We arrived with in 30 minutes of the museum opening highly recommended. Theres a viewing area that thats you back to the entrance over the entry and with in the hour the line was unbelievable compared to how short when we first arrived. We walked through on our own but noticed a few groups had guides with them if your adults that seems like an more thorough experience. We had kids from 4 to 11 with us so "no touch"," keep walking",and "stay with the group" was common the look and finds was very popular in the animal sections of our group and the dinosaurs are always literally a huge hit amazing love the water animal entry for level 2 looking up at those was beautiful. Victoria was hard to pass walking in the human body. I've worked in the medical field for years the human body was incredible to view. Definitely not disappointed thank you so much for great time.
Mariano Gomez
Amazing place! The inside it's amazing and any kid would love to see all the fossils. I do have a suggestion, I drove from another city and I really wanted to see this place. I was only able to enjoy it for 1 hour before closing. A small discount to go in before closing would be nice. I understand it was my fault I am just saying full price for just one hour didn't seem fair. However I had plenty of fun during such time. Parking it's $20 just an FYI
Edward Cotton
Great exhibits but you have to pay and pay and pay for everything out side of the permanent exhibits
Linda Hernandez (Roses)
Awesome.. the grandkids had a blast. I remember going thier when I was a kid and all I can remember was how big it was and the 🦖 dinosaurs.
Ernesto Neümann
I've always loved this Museum and never actually wrote a review on it until I took my 1 year old daughter to Houston Museum of Natural Science few days ago, she entered the building while being asleep, she woke up to a T-Rex and absolutely loved it. I can't even explain how happy and excited she was to see all the things this Museum has to offer. We took her to all permanent exhibits and loved every single on of them.
On a more general note, this Museum has a lot to offer, Butterflies are coming back soon (Spring 2023), they have classrooms where you can host parties, meetings, gatherings, the staff makes sure it is fun and exciting for all attendees. It's also pack with information and they always bring really cool exhibits to freshen up every now and then.
Family time, dating someone interesting, hanging out with your kiddos, taking grandparents out... This place is good for everyone.
Have fun!
Aziza Maria
The staff was kind and helpful. I think $20 parking for non-members is excessive. I been paying for parking the entire visit and I don't have a problem with doing so. If you gonna charge $20 for parking have all the floors for display or open up the other exhibits which you needed to pay for additional tickets such as butterfly and Pompeii exhibit.
Abdel Bousso
This place is amazing simply put. From the historical Egypt exhibit, to the natural stones where you will find crystals and gold. Not to forget the wildlife exhibit. It is well set up. Has a lot of detail. Pay close attention to every little thing. Using your phone to take a picture might give you a different perspective on what you will see.
To the dinosaur exhibit all the way up to the energy exhibit. There are definitely a lot of things you will take from this place.
Make sure you have some time if you want to see everything because there is a lot to see in 2 hours is not enough time. Maybe 3 hours you can see everything. And the building does have parking so you can drive all the way up to the museum or find somewhere else in downtown to park.
Chris
Excellent museum with extra cost things that are worth it. i could go bsck another day and still not get through everything offered. From dinosaur bones to amazing displays of jewels and minerals. I recommend getting the butterfly exhibit and seeing a show in the planaterium. Its worth the extra charge!
Adriana Cabrera
Went on a field trip with the school and the kids had a blast . Will definitely be back to finishing seeing everything
Tariq Khan
Great museum with some amazing exhibits that are interesting for adults and children alike. The HMNS probably has one of the finest exhibits on ancient Egypt outside of the Cairo Museum. Their other special limited time exhibits are also very detailed and great to visit like the current one on Pompeii...
Ashley Timmins
Be prepared to walk, walk, walk and bring your wallet!! We went on a Thursday because the museum was free which was awesome because we got to see the dinosaurs! There were only certain exhibits that were " free" but we couldn't complain. I wanted to see the planetarium since the last time I visited I was in elementary school and we got to see a show about black holes. It was so cool and 42 bucks for a family of 5 but again we enjoyed ourselves. Overall even though it rained we had a good time!
Rick Sanderson
Terrific museum. Exhibits of Russian tiaras and jewelry, gemstones, natural history, jade and gold art….so much to see. Very very good. And a real Foucault’s pendulum
Mona Cano
When we got there there was no line to wait in for our tickets, and the overall experience in the Butterfly exhibit was what I as a person who really enjoys the wonders of nature pretty awesome! Such beautiful 🦋 in the open/enclosed area! …
Keith Sanders
The natural science museum is a really fun place. They have all kinds of stuff from dinosaur stuff, too space stuff, and ancient Egypt stuff. The fourth floor is all about energy, including fossil fuel extraction, solar, and wind. It's a great place to spend the day. And it's right by miller outdoor theater, so if you can line it up, you can do both. And don't forget it's free on Thursdays!
Alejandro De Barros
Excellent experience at the Museum of Natural science, There was a really cool exhibition of mummies and a great stone and gem collection.
sean coffman
Biggest and one of the best museums I have been to. A must see. Be warned it is huge ! Full day event.
Loren Perricone-Israel
Amazing! I wish I got to stay longer! You need a full day to tour this museum and get the experience. I only had a few hours. The tomb and dinosaur exhibits are amazing! I missed a whole floor. Worth going! Get the Houston city pass which will give you access to 5 events!
Vicki Gliha
Great experience for many age levels! So many different areas to explore! Geodes, Dino's, Stars, ancient indigenous artifacts, 2 great movie theatres. A level for every age & curious mind. Plan on spending the entire day & enjoy this wonderful museum.
Bo Knows
This is always a fun place to go for the day. There is always something new to see and do.
This time we went to the burke baker planetarium, and watched a few shows and spent sometime in the gem vault.
Juan Perez
Wonderful place. The garage leads right to their entrance. Hold on to your parking validation ticket; you'll use it to depart without having to pay a parking fee. Give yourself about three hours to truly enjoy the exhibits. Food court is outside the museum doors, but inside the same building (just feet from the museum entrance); food offerings are fast food (burgers, fries, etc.). There are occasional large groups of young kids that visit (summer camps), so be ready for the associated noise.
anita cuellar
Only giving it 4 stars because the planetarium show was kinda janky. The theatre was waaaayyyy better. We got our tickets on Groupon for the permanent collection. With the Groupon we got discounted tickets to the planetarium and the theatre.
If you love dinosaurs this is the place to be! It was fantastic! Not a lot of hands on for kiddos but a good way to spend the day.
dat red raider
EXPENSIVE! But worth it. $15 just to park, $25 a piece of adults & $20 for the butterfly exhibit. we made a whole day out of it and there sure was a lot to see! only negative is the 4th floor wasn’t open to visitors but oh well!
Daniel
The Butterfly Exhibit is amazing for young and old alike. The residents are welcoming and will often grace you with their presence if you wear bright colors or generally smell flowery. It gets very humid so dress lightly, and wear nonslip shoes as the stairs can get wet sometimes. It's very much worth the trip to HMNS just to see this place. A membership is really worth the cost since you can get free general admission and discounted rates for exhibits, parking, and the gift shop.
Elizabeth DeGrie Killeen
It was wonderful! Very crowded, wish they were doing timed tickets like so many other places during Covid. But my daughter (and I) loved the dinosaurs!
Harish Pillai
One of the best natural history museums ever visited. Plan for a day at least.
Dr. C
Excellent place with a lot to see. Very educative for young and grown ups alike. Must visit when touring Houston. Permanent exhibits, bodyworks, butterfly house, petroleum/ energy marvels on 4th floor a blast!!
Tango Whiskey
The exhibits were well displayed and lit in the mineral and gems exhibit. For those with light sensitivity, bring dark shades.
The dinosaur exhibit was the opposite. It was dark and I was glad I had my own light.
The exhibit with the fur, feathers, and fins was loaded. Don't forget to open the drawers to view the less obvious items.
So fifty bucks plus tax and extra costs for special exhibits. If we had the time we would have viewed the Tut exhibit. So all in all a nice way to spend a few hours.

Members and went to see Pompeii exhibit. I love the Science museum. The Wiess Energy Hall is back open after Renovations. I love this Museum. Saw someone say the price of food is high. It is a museum you do not go there to eat.
Anupam Mishra
This is a great museum. Houston's museum district is very rich and this museum of natural science is one of the best museums there. They have all different kinds of fossils. They also have shows in the theater. If you live nearby, get the membership. It is definitely worth it since it pays for itself after 2 visits. Not to mention, they keep changing some exhibitions so those will keep you interested.
Michael Pearce
Easily one of the best science museums I have ever been to. Be prepared to spend a FULL day and maybe even break it up into two days to be able to give yourself enough time to be able to see everything. Also be sure to buy your tickets in advance and choose the electronic delivery option then save them to your phone it makes getting in and out of the exhibit area much easier.
Jan C
This is an extremely good place to visit. It amazed me with so much excitement and so many things to see and explore. I joined the membership on my first visit and just felt like supporting the fantastic job they had done. Amazing! Amazing! You must visit.
Bella CM
Great place for the whole family.Took the kiddos for the Body Worlds & The Cycle of Life exhibit to learn about the inner workings of the human body. It was unexpected and absolutely fascinating. We also enjoyed the George W. Strake Hall of Malacology and spent a lot of time looking at the different shell and marine life specimens. Of course the kids loved the The Morian Hall of Paleontology, the kids loved to learn about dinosaurs.
Alejandra Almazan
Overall great experience, plus they have exclusive lactation rooms which are very nice and accessible to moms with children. This was the highlight of my trip!
Jessica Salazar
You need to set aside an entire day to visit this museum. It is awesome! So much to see. The parking garage was too expensive at $20 but other than that, I would definitely come again!
J Mc
Wonderful Permanent Exhibits to keep one busy for hours of learning & awe of Creation!
Carol Gonzalez
Went to the King Tut exhibit it is COMPLETELY worth the price of admission. Very well done. If you go 11am time slot was perfect not too busy was able to see everything in the exhibit. Would DEFINITELY go again.
Silvia Draper
Would rate five stars if the rest of the museum was open. An entire floor was down for renovations, so major bummer for us. Cabinet of curiosities felt kind of not interesting because it was a mishmash of stuff without much explanation or meaningful displays. Wasn't even sure if it was all real or fake. Rock and gem exhibit was awesome. Butterfly exhibit is pretty cool. Can easily spend a full day here. Pricing isn't bad for the normal visit and there's definitely a ton of cool stuff to see for the base price, but some of the touring exhibits feel a bit too pricey.
lesa waters
Went to see the Pompeii exhibit. Well worth the extra charge. You walk through artifacts that show you daily life and then go into a small 4D theater room (no seats but the usher gave us a nearby folding chair for my nephew who was on the verge of overstimulus) that took us through a timeline experience of the explosion. After the short 3 min video, the screen lifted up to reveal the body casts of Pompeii. You walk through the casts as the last part of exhibit and exit. Sadly, the Egyptian and ancient Americas exhibits were closed for renovations. Texas wildlife, cabinet of curiosities and dinosaur exhibits were great. Love the gift shop! Suggestion...more history themed gifts/souvenirs, please! Most people were wearing masks. Saw cleaning crew actively cleaning surfaces after use. Parking is expensive but convenient. No more McDonald's in lobby but they have a grill serving burgers, chicken strips and fries as well as a snack bar and cafe. Really nice visit and look forward to seeing the renovations.
Richard Hernandez
Always a fun time with the family....super busy being Spring Break. Don't wait in line..pay online or walk up to the kiosk machine and purchase tickets right there!
Frank Gasser
Went to see the King Tut exhibit. It was Incredible! The staging and the commentary were excellent. We got a chance to see a small part of the rest of the museum. You can easily spend days and days going through the museum.
Scott Armstrong
This was our first time to visit thus museum. We came to see the Body World's Exhibit. The Parking was Challenging, even though my truck is a standard size 3/4 ton truck. The Museum was Amazing!!! The Body Worlds Exhibit was Awesome!!! We had a Wonderful Time and are looking to get a membership and bring our grandchildren back also!!! There was Lots to See!!! We are looking forward to coming back!!! We HIGHLY Recommend this Museum!!!
jonathan coutinho
Took my youngest son who's 10 there for the king tut exhibit as well as the dinosaurs. Price are a little steep, although the exhibit was very nice. Was disappointed that the real mummy of tut wasnt their for viewing at the price paid. We also went into the butterfly sanctuary which is very cool and filled with lots of beautiful butterflies.
Manasicha Akepiyapornchai
Such a fun place, especially if you’re into dinosaurs!
Tiffany Brown
I absolutely LOVED it. I took my husband here for his birthday and we had a great time. To be honest there's so much to see and do that we're going to have to go back k again cause we didn't get to see everything. And the Planetarium....it was out 1st show and we loved it. They did a great job and you have soooo many different Planetarium shows to choose from. It was truly an amazing experience
Rahul Aggarwal
Always love attending this museum that offers so much. We came to see the Pompeii exhibit in particular and enjoyed it immensely. Amazed at the artifacts and history about the eruption and the life of the people there. Highly recommend it.

The best Egypt exhibition we ever saw, kudos to the staff that made it happen, the maintenance staffs that clean around the clock, this exhibition feels so vivid like we really visit ancient Egypt. The relic and the tombs were a loan from Emory so it's really cool to experience these relics and see the actual sarcophagus and the tomb without going to Egypt ✈️🤣 , the dinosaur fossils exhibition was also a hit for my kids to explore, as well as the gemstone and wildlife and the ocean world, and the gift shop 😅 in the end. The Hermann park is right across the museum, very beautiful park to explore as well. The only downside of this museum is the exorbitant parking fee of $30 if you're not a member. But I would come again just to enjoy all their exhibitions, it's quite wonderful.
F Hudson
My kids absolutely loved it!!!! They enjoyed the theater and the butterfly exhibit. We went on a free day Thursday during COVID-19 and felt absolutely safe. It was not crowded and they had perimeters set throughout the entire exhibit. It's very educational and still a lot of fun. The staff is very nice and helps with any questions you may have. Also you are able to get the military pricing during free day for any add on activities which is super cool!! I want to say that this is an amazing social distance activity for the entire family 👪
bentley timberlake
I recently visited the Houston Museum and I have to say, I had a fantastic time. There was so much to see and do, and I really feel like the membership is worth it if you live in the area. I particularly enjoyed the Ramses exhibition - definitely worth the additional cost.
While the "shows" in the theater were shown on a dome screen, I found that the seating arrangement was really well thought out. You don't have to tilt your head up too far, which made for a really comfortable experience. I do agree that the "death of the dinosaurs" show could have been better, but it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the museum.
I'd also like to note that if you're looking to save some money, Thursdays have free entrance hours - just check their website for details. All in all, I'd highly recommend the Houston Museum to anyone looking for a fun and educational experience.
Elisha Ellis
To get the full effect you need 2 days here . There is so much knowledge to be had and things to do. And don't get me started w the food stands and Italian shaved ice before you enter. Good for the kids to learn, great atmosphere, clean , well kept and I would definitely go back in a heart beat!!!
Veronica Pineda
Super awesome! I always enjoy coming to the Museum and my kiddos love it as well! Not packed in the mornings and the weekends you may get a chance to chat with an expert...also King Tuts exhibit is SUPER AWESOME!! Dont miss it!!
Sasha Davani
Went during the New Years Eve function they had. Very cool to walk around at night in the dark and look at all of the exhibits in a different setting! Very cool!
Des Rey
We absolutely loved this museum! . Took us 3 hours just to walk through the museum. Wear comfortable shoes!Didn't have enough time to see the special exhibits, but I am sure they are awesome. Definitely recommend arriving early. We arrived 15 min before open time and there was already a line. If you are in Houston this is a nice place to spend the day.
Bl00DxR3D :-D
Love this place, we went once then decided to become members so we can come back whenever we want to, that's definitely the way to go! It already paid for itself and they have a bunch of perks like members only events and cheaper tickets to special exhibits and the planetarium videos. We try and go wherever we have free time and we find new things we didn't see before each time.
Kapre Carter
What an AMAZING experience. This was my first time going to a natural history museum since I was young in Los Angeles. Just those memories I have I wanted my kids to have them. Seeing all the dinosaur bones and prehistoric items were amazing. From the outside it doesn't look like it but its 4 huge levels of goodness. The parking was 20 bucks but if you are a member its only $20. The location is right next to the zoo so its easy to find. I highly recommend this place for families or a cool little couples outing. We will definitely be back here
Warren Hunt
This is a Houston gem!! Beautiful exhibits. Fantastic staff (Ask for Rich when you want a private guided your!). We'll worth the price of admission. Central to all things Houston culture, Ross Houston museum does not disappoint.
Natalie Pace (Natty)
One of the best museums in town! You can easily spend over 3 hours here between all of the different floors and exhibits.
There are two cafes in the building as well, so if the first one is crowded- keep walking towards the Butterfly center and you will see the other cafe with a bigger selection.
Don’t skip the gems and minerals!! They are so beautiful and must be enjoyed in person, up close.
Marvin Morales
Wonderful experience, but non member prices are awful they wont let u just renew u got to start over full priced.
Marcy R. Stearns
Our field trip was great. It was very crowded in the morning. It seems that it could be better streamlined to get people in more smoothly. The docents who conducted our "Egyptian" tour were fabulous! Highly recommend!
Rebecca Parchmont
Amazing it is such a great place to explore. Hard to see everything. This place gives a student discount. Only wish it was more affordable for lower income families. Should have a family night. One tickets price should include the whole family. Also it needs some cheaper prices on there souvenirs.
Lawton Regan
Be prepared to speand 2-5 hours going to this museum. This was a great experience. The Death by natural causes exhibit was $5 extra from the city pass purchase. Also, for who created that exhibit my only recommendation is to add COVID 19 to the exhibit. We are in the middle of a pandemic and it was a little odd to see that it was not mentioned.
However, staff was nice and friendly and assisted with providing great recommendations. Also, car garage was $20 to park. Overall, I would recommend to visit to anyone.
Ruoyang Yan
Good place, a lot of fun and knowledge. Only thing they need to improve is the ticket system. You have to wait in the queue no matter what kinds of tickets you have, even if you have a city pass, you still need to exchange an physical ticket in the counter. It can take up to 30 minutes on weekends.
Jordan Alexander (Mathematics)
Awesome place to learn about natural history. The dinosaur skeletons, fossils, shells and gems are fun to see every time I bring my kids, and some of the special exhibits have the effect of making me feel transported to another place and time. I also love the option of learning more about history and science through the planetarium and the giant screen theatre.
Melanie Caddel
I love this museum so much. The curators did a great job and continue to update the museum with new information. I would recommend going on a weekday morning (not thursdays) because it can get very busy. The Pompeii exhibit was really interesting, but 75% of it is life before the eruption. The ending is very cool. The death by natural causes exhibit is so unique. It is really interesting. The bodies exhibit is also really cool. It might scare some younger children but it is really interesting to see. The ancient Egypt exhibit is closed right now, but will open back up some time in June. That was one of my favorites to see!
Jenna Bentall
This museum will not disappoint! It has TONS of exhibits and different collections to see. There are several floors and each one is unique and very well done. Definitely go when you have lots of time because you won’t want to skip anything! The oil and industrial floor is fun and inventive. The paleontology exhibit is cool for ALL ages. King tut’s area is exciting to walk through. The gem collection is stunning and you can’t take your eyes off of them! Basically everything is fun to see and exciting to learn more about. If you’re flexible in terms of when you can go, take advantage of their free admission on Thursday afternoons. My one complaint with the museum is the elevators. They thankfully have a few elevators throughout their main exhibit. However, the main elevator area has three elevators that look like they’re functioning, but only one works. So it can take awhile to get from one floor to another.
Ben Bailey
We have a membership, and I was pleasantly suprised to see how much my daughter loves the exhibits.
Umar Mian
Not much interactive experience for little kids to keep them interested but overall good learning experience for older kids.
Justin Barbour
We could have spent all day at the Egyptian permanent exhibit. No need to pay extra for the King Tut experience: way more real artifacts in the free exhibit.
Isa Dls
We bought the city pass the tickets are cheaper. Beautiful place to visit. We loved visiting king tuts tomb.
Kimberly Kullberg
The museum is well laid out, beautiful, and full of fun treasures!!
Christopher Bridges
Always a pleasure to see what HMNS has going on. My nieces and nephews love to see the dinosaurs and gems and other permanent exhibits. The membership is well worth it as you get discounted tickets, free admission to permanent exhibits, and you get to skip the public line and go through VIP, which is a LOT faster if you need to buy tickets to something at the museum.
Wonderful way to spend a day, by yourself or with family.
The Lane's
Absolutely amazing! We took our four and six year olds and they loved it. So much to learn and see and the facility is beautiful. We enjoyed the exhibits and the interactive learning, it was an amazing day! If you're going to more than one place, consider the citypass
Kathielee Floyd
We were visiting from out of town, 10/10 worth going to visit! Incredible gem and rare mineral collection, so many dinos and prehistoric fossils, LOVED the mummies, (we actually went to see the king Tut limited experience however they were sold out for the day so recommend going early, or buying tickets online) and the energy exhibit is really fascinating! Lots of fun hands on things to do with the littles, or to do yourself 😉 best museum I've ever been to thus far in my life! Loved it!!
CC Adaptive
I love coming here on off days to relax and look at textures in the gems and shells. I definitely hit up the dinosaurs, butterfly house, and space exhibits too. Body Worlds is my favorite exhibit, it's incredible.
Gail Geissler
We're from NY, where to get in a museum it a suggested donation, but still a donation. The exhibits here were well worth the $25 to get in. The extra cost for added exhibits was a surprise but still worth it. What really drops the rating to a 4 is the expense of the food. The cost was outrageous. The only reasonable thing was the soft pretzel for $3. But we did enjoy the actual museum.
Andrea D
One of the best museums in Houston. My daughter (2yrs) favorite are the butterfly exhibit and the paleontology hall. The butterfly exhibit is $12 to enter and there are a ton of butterflies to see of all different colors and sizes! It is very crowded, so be prepared for that. The paleontology hall is a must for any dinosaur lovers. It is a beautiful exhibit and my kids could stay there for hours!
Edward Yang
There is lots of walking and it's a bit expensive, but it's worth it! There's something in here for everybody with extensive mineral and gem, paleontology, coastal ecology, and special exhibits. The special exhibits are a bit expensive at about $20 per person per exhibit, but worth it.
Tyler C
It was a great experience, anyone who hasn't seen this place, I would highly recommend. Tons of facts to learn, cool artifact's and other really nice exhibit stuff to look at. There's not a single thought that goes through my head as to why I'd say no to this place, it's a must see place. If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself and either way I'd say check it out because wether you believe me or not it is a great place to bring yourself and if you want others to come with it's great for you and your family and or friends.
Sherrl Carpenter
Amazing place to come. Love this way... great of children and adults. ADA wheelchair accessible.
SquadMaster
Amazing place to go with your family and friends. So much fun stuff to see there such as fossils, ancient artifacts, and space exploration items. It's an amazing place however the price could deter you from entering, however the price shouldn't be the issue when this place has all these fun exhibits and items.
Chad Culp
Great museum and amazing exhibits...learn ALOT and see cool s***!
Yechiela Yehoyakim
The museum was awesome but the gift store was impeccable!! I have to go back and buy some of the pieces because they were beautiful. My only question was why are they selling cricket and ant candy in the vending machines?? Is that even safe lmao!!
Missy Kershner
The memberships are a bit high, considering they still expect you to pay a discounted price for admission to the exhibits when you have one, BUT they do allow everyone free admission to their permanent exhibits everyday from 4:30-5:00 pm. I have every intention of returning soon with all of my children, my daughters and I had a fantastic time regardless of the cost. Would definitely recommend to anyone with a family, entertaining, and educational fun!
Abby Reimer
The butterfly exhibit was my favorite, overall a fun place for kiddos
Dug Schulz
The permanent exhibits are top notch. I see something new I didn't notice the last time I was there. The visiting exhibits are the best in the world. Don't forget to say hi to the butterflies. I have not been to the planetarium as an adult, but I hope the kids will be able to enjoy that show soon.
Claire
Best musuem of any type I've ever been to. This place was cool beyond belief! We didn't get to see everything because we got there late (most of their 3rd and 4th floor exhibits are under renovation but there was so so so much to see) but it was extremely awesome. We got butterflyhouse tickets and the house blew my mind, SO many plants and butterflies everywhere! And they have a very neat insect exhibit/hallway with reals insects to see and fun things for kids to interact with. The first floor had an amazing dinosaur age display, so many displays of dinosaurs and creatures from different time periods. The 2nd floor was astounding and again FILLED with stuff to see. My favorite part of the museum (besides the butterfly house) was there breathtaking gem and mineral display. I spent so much time in that one exhibit, I couldn't stop looking at their specimens. They have raw gemstones and then a "gem vault" located in the back with cut and polished gorgeous gemstone and jewelry. We will definitely be coming back way earlier, best museum ever!
Sasha Riley
It was challenging to find parking empty space, so we gave up and returned by Uber. One visit is not enough to see everything in it. Energy exhibit was an amazing experience. A thought provoking place. King Tutt displays were the best. Highly recommend.
Brittany
Really cool! Definitely would go back. Had a great time at the exhibits. When you go please note the butterfly exhibit and the interactive exhibits are not open. Also some of the other exhibits are closed as well. Overall was a nice time. With a lot of things being closed $40 was not a fair price for two adults. Also the other extra options were kind of pricey. Good note is they do offer discounts for students, must bring a valid ID.
Amy Rigsby
A lot of different places for different personalities. Loved them all.
Katrina Rush
It's pretty expensive. The permanent exhibits are all included in the base price. They are all really good. The minerals and precious gems as well as the fossil exhibits were something amazing to behold. The extras really add up quickly though. Check prices and budget accordingly.
Jessica Patrick
Great exhibits but kinda small for the price.
Davis Mogford
While i did enjoy the King Tut exhibit, it was a lot smaller than what I expected. Overall, had a great time at the museum with my 10 year old niece and family, only wish I had more time
mark desilva
If you go early be prepared so does absolutely everyone else in Houston. Later in the afternoon things settled down but was crazy packed. The exhibits themselves were very educational had no idea the layers to Tuts burial tomb.
shivani pullela
It was the best thing to see in Houston. I went on 3 day trip and was disappointed by aquarium and other things out there but this was worth every peny. They had a burke baker planetarium which was amazing. I mostly liked the 3rd floor. Seeing the mummy’s was an amazing experience. I missed exploring the other museum as I had the city pass. I wish I could have gone to museums first. Never mind!
Lauren Guillet
We always enjoy the museum! The planetarium is a favorite for my family.
I recommend a membership because without it, the museum can be super pricy. Also, purchase tickets ahead of time online and get email delivery. That way they can just scan your phone and you don’t have to wait in line (those lines can get looonnnggg, and with impatient kids, it can be less than enjoyable)
Cooper Jiang
Very good place to visit during the weekend! Worth the ticket!
johnny-_-
Went with my family on a Monday and it was nice and quiet. There is so much to look at it, perfect for ALL ages. Each floor has tons of things to gaze upon and you can truly be here for hours learning about so many aspects of science. 10/10 would recommend!
Joanne Courtney
What a great experience! I accidentally bought my tickets for the wrong date. The staff no only allowed my family entry they even walked us over to the Body World display. I highly recommend the exhibit. It was so educational to see the inside of the human body. We then looked at the African exhibit and the gems exhibit. Both were excellent. I will be back for the butterfly exhibit next.
catalina olivas
Haven't been to the musem since I was in elementary. So I decided to take my daughters and we had such a great time. There so much to see we were there from 12-4 on Saturday and we still don't not get to finish seeing everything so make sure you wear your comfy shoes. ME, my 11 and 7 year old loved it definitely recommend it for anyone looking for something to do with the family 👪
Alberto Enrique Paternina
Beautiful experience!
A little bit pricey because parking is $20 but being honest worth it!
Maddi S.
Enter in the gift shop! I love our museum. We popped in just for a planetarium show. There's obviously some construction underway. Can't wait to see what new changes they have in store.
Sarah Trader
Great place to visit and take the family! We spent several hours there as the museum has so much to see and do. We particularly liked the mammals exhibit, the dinosaur gallery and the King Tut special exhibit (which required a separate ticket purchase).
At one point we bought some souvenirs and then inadvertently left them behind in an exhibit. When we went back, the bag was gone. We went to the customer information desk and discovered an employee had found the bag and turned it in so we got all our stuff back! Everyone was very helpful and friendly.
There is a small little café that was good for an afternoon snack break. The gift shop is quite large and nice.
There is attached garage parking, which is convenient but it costs $20. We opted to do that because it was a rainy day. Otherwise, if you park on the street, expect to have to walk quite a way.
All in all we really enjoyed the museum!
Hannah Kneuper
This place is dope. I have been here twice, and both times, the staff was helpful and polite. They offer discounts and are helpful with the best options for tickets. My only complaint is that there is no age limit, so you have toddlers screaming and hitting the stuff in the exhibits while you're trying to read.
Vince
Amazingly Outstanding Experience. Excellent tour guides. Worth more than what they charge. Who can say that these days. Bravo People. Wonderful day for my Son and I together. Please visit.
Justus Durbin
We have the members passing absolutely love this place all the attractions everything. I will say the butterfly exhibit is always the most Serene and peaceful place I've ever seen. This is an absolute must place to go if you're in Houston.
Walter Wayne Taylor
I've seen 3 King Tut exhibits, this one was the most interesting.
Anonymous User
Really good museum I do recommend!!
Sidney Rowley
Very awesome and great for families and couples.. There is a lot to do and it is very clean. And well maintained. You need a lot of time to see everything. A lot of the hands on interactive stuff is disabled because of COVID but there is still A LOT to see. Butterfly exhibit is beautiful!
Ariel Danielle
If you've been considering it, DEFINITELY go see Body Worlds before they take that exhibit away (5/21/21). You can get almost half off tickets on Groupon but not for special exhibits, although the price is only about $5 more than regular price and includes all the permanent exhibits.
This is definitely one of the coolest museums I've gotten to tour, big enough to keep you engaged for several hours, so much to see and learn. Unfortunately Covid has resulted in interactive exhibits to be temporarily halted. 😔 They seem like a lot of fun and I'll definitely be returning once the world gets back to some semblance of normal. Excited to check out the butterfly exhibit next time!
Muhammad Yasin
Went mainly for the bodyworlds exhibition. It's basically biology 101 shown using plastinated bodies and organs of real humans who volunteered for posthumous use of their bodies for educational purposes.
The mesum has so much educational and historical information to offer through so many exhibits included in basic ticket. We were fascinated by the dinosaurs, the Egyptian mummies, the crystal collection, and the Fabrege eggs and jewelry.
The Butterfly Garden and the Planetarium have their separate tickets. There's so many varieties and colors for the Butterflies. The Planetarium is more like a 3D movie show and feels so realistic.
Overall, worth the price. If you are a student, show your ID and get discounted ticket. Currently, Hall of America and .any exhibits on lower floor are closed.
Uzma Shamim
We went to the butterfly garden and had an amazing time with so many colorful butterflies. They are super friendly, came and sat on us and my children absolutely loved the interaction. Will go back again.
Tyler Fuller
Excellent museum! It's a 4 out of 5 for the rate, if you have a large family with multiple kids it can get expensive. That being said the facilities are very nice and up to date. Unfortunately some of the features to explain the exhibits are not available due to covid protocols. The Febregé and natural gems exhibits were excellent and that wasn't even why I came. The Cockerel butterfly exhibit was amazing if you're even remotely interested in butterflys. The dinosaur exhibit was very extensive and fun. All in all a fun experience.
Gabriella Del Gaudio
I absolutely love this museum! I try to go at least once a week. The Ancient Egyptian Exhibit is my favorite! I'm hoping to see The King Tut Experience before it's gone as well. 4 stories of amazing exhibits and history.
David Kim
A lot of variety, but all of them were interesting.
Ben Smith
Great museum! Lots of neat exhibits. Really enjoyed the Native American artifacts. Would recommend figuring out a way to scan the CityPass directly at the gate instead of making CityPass holders stand in the ticket line.
Tyler Carlisle
First time being there and it was absolutely amazing! Definitely can't wait to go again, and I highly recommend everyone to check it out. I promise you won't be disappointed!
Debra Arrington
I'm glad I went early. the King Tut exhibit was super nice. The museum itself is super nice. The so called planetarium is really an Imax theater of sorts that needed to be cleaned and disinfected. it reaked of sweaty, small children. the presentation was nice, however.
Amy J
This museum is huge and wonderful. The 2nd floor has so many animals you can 'look and find'. They have trains, gems, and on the 3rd floor, Ancient Americas and Ancient Egypt exhibits which are truly top notch. Thursdays from 2-5pm are FREE. You just line up outside and promptly at 2pm are given tickets, the line moves super fast and it spreads out quickly. We highly recommend for children of all ages and even adults.
Sharon Winders
Absolutely THE BEST museum of natural science in the south if not the country.
Shawn B
This was amazing, if you like museums. There was so much on display and so many interesting pieces, my wife, step-daughter, and I were mesmerized! The food was outrageously expensive!
Child Lol
I would say that it's a really fun experience the 4 times I've been there, but the place barely has parking, usually crowded, and directions are confusing. On another note, the space section isn't all that good whenever there's no fun activities going on. I really like space and that just brought my hopes down. It's really worth it once you've got the hang of things but some parts aren't really and that fun.
Nick Sibrian
4 Floors of Museum artifacts to see!! So much to encounter, a planetarium 🪐 a butterfly 🦋 encounter and more! This museum is a must when you come visit Houston. The museum district is also very pleasant to be around with the parks and statues in the area.
Jose Pinto
It was an amazing experience!! Spent the whole day exploring the museum. There is so much to see, learn, and do. My favorite floor was that of ancient Egypt. I highly suggest to anyone who visits Houston to go to this museum.
Rachel Robertson
Our family have been members at HMNS for years, and it is one of our favorite places to visit. Even with the interactive exhibits closed due to covid restrictions my 10 year old and his friends had a blast!
Laura Hausen
We saw the King Tut exhibit and visited the planetarium.
K. W.
My family absolutely loves this museum! We have hosted and attended a number of birthday parties here over the years and have also come to check out the new exhibits throughout the year. My son loves the dinosaur exhibit and never gets tired of it! Definitely check out the planetarium and the butterfly exhibit, as well. This place is hours of entertainment!
Amelia Gibson
The exhibits are incredibly well curated and definitely worth a visit. We stayed for a little over three hours, saw all the exhibits included in the general admission plus the King Tut exhibit. Absolutely lovely. Go early and carve a few hours of your day for it.
Christopher Saint
The museum hosts a great program for Scouting and is a very nice facility with excellent exhibits. Unfortunately the parking is not as nice and is very expensive. Combine that with a lack of a proper dedicated pick-up drop off area and it ruins the whole experience. If you have someone who can drop you off and pick you up your time will be wonderful but even that will be a bit inconvenient. It's best viewed as a chaperone for a school where you get to ride a bus and use the bus drop off zone. Also avoid Saturdays because the park patrons block the bus drop off with illegal parking that the police and security do absolutely nothing about. That is not the museums fault but does make it rather difficult to deal with. So it's either be inconvenienced or deal with a small overpriced parking garage with tight spaces that are hard to manage with anything bigger than a Camry or Accord.

As always this place never disappoints. So many exhibits in one building. Lots of traveling exhibits that are a extra fee. The permanent exhibits are awesome . Four floors of fun for the whole family. From Dinosaurs to beautiful gems from around the world , Animals of the world are so life like . The energy exhibit is great ! Very interactive and informative fir our area. The sea shells are crazy cool. Guaranteed to see something you will never see again. The vault is stunning! Filled with huge carrot stones and jewelry.
Great bang for your buck but parking in the garage is the kicker... $20! That’s insane to me. Any where else is a walk . They do have a snack area in the lobby with the other paid attractions. Very nice gift shop for any souvenirs you may want. You could definitely spend a day here, great on a rainy day.

Came for free Thursday during spring break from New Braunfels TX! It was a mad house but so worth it! Thank you to the museum for offer such an amazing opportunity to see your beautiful establishment. My children and I really enjoyed the rock and dinosaur experiences.

This is a great experience!! If you can, use the Will Call option. They have kiosks that will print out your tickets.
Plan on spending 4-6 hours inside. There's a planetarium and a butterfly exhibit. They also have a Pompei exhibit, but we didn't visit it. All-in-all, this is a fabulous and educational experience!!

Definitely 5 stars museum! Especially with King Tut Tomb they have now. Highly recommend its a must seen museum if you’re in Houston. There is a parking lot close by for only 10$ be careful parking in the street so you don’t get a ticket.
