We took advantage of going to the museum on Thursday and I realized that every Thursday is totally free, something very good for the family and large groups of friends. We park the parking lot of the museum itself but you also have the opportunity to park on the street (if you are lucky) The entrance was quite fast, no queues or waiting. I think that having the tickets already purchased makes access much easier. The place is incredible, everything is organized, clean and quite easy to follow the route. It is an excellent place to meet and enter the world of art and a Excellent idea for a date too.

MC Escher exhibit is great! They have the prints but also many of the wood cuts and blocks on display.right next to them. Very interesting, I've never seen an exhibit like that. This was also my first time in the Kinder building, very impressive and fun space. More contemporary works, great flow to the museum. Fun tunnel back to the Beck building.

Twas a beautiful museum! Many cultural arts were exhibited from all over the world! Definitely a great experience to see what cultures each country shared. I got to go there on Thursday night so I got a free entrance! I love that they do those give back to the community! A must go there especially if you like arts! Cheers 🥂

A great huge collection of art work from all different eras and places. This museum consists of three buildings. One for classic European art, one for art from other cultures, and one for contemporary. Each of the buildings is connected through tunnels that are themselves art installation. Very spacious venue and generous use of architectural space. Their special exhibitions are also very cool. I went to the MC Escher one and I would rate that show a 5 out of five as well.

A nice museum with three buildings connected by the underground passages. My favorite is the modern art building. You can easily spend a whole day here. Some staff near popular light fixtures seem less chill, but overall great experience here. They also have a cute cafe.

Wonderful museum with excellent exhibits. Especially liked the Georgia O’Keeffe, Photographer exhibition devoted to O’Keeffe’s work as a photographer. I am a big fan of her work and also visited the museum in Santa Fe. Nearly 100 photographs from a newly examined archive were on display during this exhibit.Complementing the photographs were paintings and drawings also exhibited.

Best place to go if you are interested in art! It includes 3 buildings with 3 different topic, they are connected by elevators, so you don't have to worry about crossing the road. It took us few minutes to find parking garage, but it's all good. Make sure you are wearing a comfortable shoes, otherwise you will have hard time to finish all 3 buildings, they all have elevators, but every level is pretty big, so you will have some walking.

We went when they had 2 special exhibitions. 1 of them was really cool. However, The other was not the greatest. Most of the staff is courteous. However, there are staff members who are rude and not so friendly. We were at the place during closing hours. With 15 minutes still left for closing we were asked to leave the building and be in the parking before 6. We wanted to check 1 last section and this was not acceptable. It is worth a visit if you are into fine arts and museums. Overall an okay experience.

I loved how we traveled to each museum through tunnels. Even the tunnels were a work of art. My daughter enjoyed her visit. We stayed about 5 hours, wear comfortable shoes. You do not realize how much there is to see.

Cost - $19 without the special exhibit, $26 with it; another $10 for parking fees. There are 3 grand buildings as well as garden areas within the MFAH - and all are equally amazing and awe striking! Chalk out an entire day (at least!) to be amazed by paintings, sculptures, old relics, modern art, and interactive exhibits. It was crowded however each building is so huge that you are sure to find several moments of solitude to think about the art you observe. There is also a well rated cafe and restaurant within the building, although I didn’t have time to snack at either. A wonderful way to spend a hot summer day in Houston!

Invest in the membership. This is a comfort place for me, working at the zoo living across the park, I used to be here daily. If you need a comfy quiet reading room with cleanest air you can breathe in Houston, go to the classics side upstairs and relax in front of a still life of lemon zests and oysters with salt and ornate glass on marble, and wow the frames of some pieces are carved beautifully

I spent two hours here before my feet gave out. This is an amazing museum and I likely saw 2/3 of it in that time. Lot's of variety and well curated. Highly recommended place to enjoy the beauty of art.

The museum was amazing. As a lover & creator of art, I could have stayed here all day. You kind of just get lost in each exhibit. My favorite was the photography. I also really enjoyed the interactive movement wall. Lots of fun!

10/10 experience. worth every penny of your admissions ticket! oh my goodness this museum is amazing! you have access to not one, not two, but THREE MUSEUMS!!!!!!!!!!! parking is simple (parking garage attached to the museum) and the artwork in these museums are so detailed and amazing.

My husband is an MC Escher fan so I surprised him with a visit to the MFAH temporary/traveling Escher exhibit. It was FANTASTIC!! We only had time for the Escher exhibit but I've been to the museum in other occasions and it is just wonderful. The diverse art, the ambiance, the feel-just a great art museum all around.

I came here with my Mom for the MC Escher exhibit, but there are constantly so many going on, and you get a little sneak preview of so many as you head to the one you're there for. This is an absolutely beautiful museum with so much going on. I can't wait to go back!

Went here with my family and there were so many beautiful art pieces. What a fun experience! Thursdays are completely free including free parking in the garage so that’s amazing. We stopped by cafe leonelli which I wasn’t very impressed with but it’s nice they have somewhere you can stop for lunch/dessert while visiting.

It's a wonderful place for a romantic date, or to enjoy time with family or friends or even just quality time alone. I love the way they are always keeping things fresh & exciting, bringing in new exhibits, while simultaneously always having certain sections of MFA to remain the same.....If you want to experience something new, it's there for you. If you want to be wrapped in comfort and nostalgia, that's also waiting for you. Explore the Renaissance art.... Gaze at the statues from ancient Greece or Rome. Take in the Abstract Expressionism. Every art piece tells a story..... It's like traveling back in time....and seeing the world through another person's eyes. It's a way to learn about other cultures, languages, religions, stories & perspectives on life. Every single building that makes up The Museum of Fine Arts has its own unique personality and ALL are wonderful!!! So, visit the museum and explore all it has to offer. Brought my daughter and her friend. Very interesting art and so much history. The kids would’ve enjoyed the museum of natural sciences a lot more so if you have young children then this may not be the best suited. Now if you love art and have time to stop and read each of the pieces then you won’t be disappointed. Just wear comfy shoes and make plans to spend much time of you want to see everything.

MFAH has been steadily improving over the last few years. We particularly enjoyed the Picasso Calder, Obama portrait and Escher exhibitions. There are several convenient parking lots attached. Membership pays for itself after 1-2 visits and offers discounts on parking. Cafe Leonelli has been a nice addition. Looking forward to going again

Absolutely one of the best museums I've ever been to! The fine works of art by famous artists were breath taking!! The cafe was very good they even served wine. We went on a Thursday which is free entry. Will definitely go again!

Very nice museum with floors each containing different styles of art. Upstairs had contemporary new art and in basement they had art from Korea and middle east that were very nicely displayed. My mind was immersed in culture and thought.

Admission is free on Thursdays but unsure what times. Today they had many students from many school districts on a field trip. Lots of art. I think I don't appreciate art as much as other may but some stuff was interesting.

If it's been a few years since you've been to MFAH, here's your sign to return! The museum is now made up of 3 buildings all connected underground with easy parking on site. There is much more diversity in art than I remember ten years ago, and less Euro-centric. We went on Thursday (the free day!!) and it wasn't too crowded. We spent about 3 hours there, ate at the café. My only complaint was how hard the concrete is on your feet. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes for the day as the flooring is the one thing that made us leave earlier.

Absolutely spectacular experience at the Art Museum. All the artwork was so incredible and a pleasure to look at. I’m not normally an art guy, but this museum is a must visit! Thursday is free entry.

I am not the fine arts museum type, but this one has something for about anyone. That's probably it's made of multiple buildings. The layout is a tad confusing. And they have these monochrome tunnels where the lighting force you to see in a shade of color. Really weird and exciting at the same time. We spent 2h without being able to remotely see the whole thing. Plus it's free parking and entry on Thursdays, but there might be restricted areas inside.

It was a very lovely place and there was so much to see. If you are someone who loves art this is the place to visit anytime you are in Houston and even if you are not an art lover, I promise you will fall in love with arts. The price was ($19.99) and you get to see arts from different era's and cultures. I definitely will be visiting again.

This place is huge. I didn’t know it was three buildings. We saw less then half of it. We will have to go back, maybe a few times to see the rest. We saw a lot of great art. One of my favorites was a Lego sculpture.

The Obama presidential exhibit was awesome. Also viewed the Dawoud Bey black and white photography exhibit. Museum Cafe was a great place to grab a bite and the museum gift was great. Very friendly staff.

This museum is very large with 3 different buildings along with an outdoor sculpture garden. There are two separate parking garages along with some limited street parking. Their permanent collections are very versatile and well arranged. They have frequent special exhibits from around the world for an additional ticket price.

This place is huuuuuuuge, I am coming back because I think I barely got through 1/4 of the place on my visit here. There is so much to see, you will not be bored, the layout of the buildings is very interesting; I love the big, open spaces! We came on a weekend so there was a bit of a crowd, but it did not take away from the enjoyment.

We love this Museum. Took our kids to see the MC Escher Exhibit and they also had an interactive exhibit that the kids (and my husband) fell in love with. I highly recommend visiting this place.

I loved this place, kudos to the efforts to have all the wonderful collections. Though it does not have super master pieces, it has all to guide visitors to completely walk through the art history. Some pieces are spectacular!

I went to visit on a Thursday evening to take advantage of the free admission. Also parking is free after 5 pm. Special exhibitions are not included with the free admission on Thursdays. It's very nice to walk around and enjoy the art. The museum has a permanent exhibit called Yayoi Kusama “Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity. Visitors get to go in the room for 1 minutes per person or you can also go in as a group, it's very cool.

What an amazing day I had at the fine arts museum in houston! From the Michael S. Sachs collection including works from M.C. Escher to the daywood Bay photographer collection titled 'An American Project'! The Obama portraits tour is from April 3rd to May 30th! It is free on April 4th! So dress to you or Sunday Best and get ready to take a lot of pictures because it will be packed! What everyone needs to know is to get from one building to the next You follow The pedestrian tunnel which is on the LL or lower level. And you can ask any security person how to get to these places and they are all super duper helpful! I highly recommend seeing all three buildings the Audrey Jones spec building, Caroline Weiss law building, and the Nancy and Rich kinder building! And I spent five hours there, so expect to do a lot of looking a lot of walking and a lot of taking and culture!

We went twice while we visited. The artifacts are in great shape and they have a little of every culture. It was pretty cool to see all of it under one roof. I also have an exhibit you can climb for $25.

Absolutely fantastic museum that’s composed of multiple buildings, stunning art gardens, and a fun walkway tunnel to get to other buildings! There’s something for everyone from little kids to the oldest adults. Houston is very lucky to have such an elegant, well kept museum full of wonderful exhibitions and artwork. The MFA is the place to be on any day for spectacular artwork.

Decent museum with an interesting collection of fine contemporary arts. The three buildings are connected via a tunnel and you spend good time here

This museum has 3 buildings and if you need to get a ticket in person, you need to get a ticket at the main building (The Audrey Jones Beck Building) and then go to The Caroline Wiess Law Building or The Nancy and Rich Kinder Building. They call it Beck/Law/Kinder Building for short. I went to Giacometti exhibition and it was great! It is only $5 on Thursdays otherwise it is $18. Every Thursday is free admission to everyone so if you don't want to pay for admission, go on Thursday. The Beck Building has most of collections. If you don't have enough time and interested in European Art, American Arts& Impressionism go to this one. The Law Building has Aisan, Islamic, African & etc. So if you are interested in Arts from these, go to The Law Building. The Kinder Building has Contemporary Art & EuropeanBuilding on the 2nd floor. Yaoi Kusama's mirror room is here on the 1st floor. I was very impressed with collectiond in the Kinder building. If you are interested in Contemporary art, go to the Kinder Building other than Contemporary Arts Museum Houston unless there is a exhibition on going that you are interested in. Overall, I was so happy to go back to this museum and have a wonderful time.I went to this museum for 3 days. I even went to Bayou Bend & Rienzi so everything together will be more than 15 hours and I wish I had more time to see more. On Thursdays, there is a bar open in front of The Beck Building and they have happy hour from 5PM to 7PM. It was amazing ($5 for cocktails) so do not miss it! ===================== (Old review) Another great museum in Texas. I loved collections of this museum since I love European paintings. If you are big fan of Henri Matisse, you will love this place. There are lots of beautiful European paintings from various painters. I highly recommend this museum who loves art. I am planning to go back next year. I was in hurry when I visited here in 2019 so couldn't see other than European Paintings.

The Kinder Museum was an awesome experience. The collection of 20th century art and the flow of the architectural layout of the museum was exemplary. The staff was extremely courteous and professional as well. Cannot wait to return!

Coming from LA, I have high expectations for museums. This has to be one of my favorites. There were several diff rooms and floors from different eras and covered a wide variety of different types of art. We spent a couple hours here and really enjoyed it. Very clean and quiet. Would def recommend if visiting the area!

Great experience, I will be back next time I visit Houston! Could have spend all day here. You can get through the museum in about 3 hours but I recommend longer. Parking is a issue so we took a uber, otherwise a perfect place to bring your older kids!

cool spot to see art exhibitions. parking can be painful even the garage. i wish they offered valet for restaurants over there. it's free on thursdays and if you are a member you get a lot of exhibitions for free. i like how they bring many unique exhibitions. my most recent one was the escher collection which i enjoyed a lot. and le jadinier, highly recommend. dont think i have any negative to say about this place. staffs are friendly and knowledgable. oh also i used to donate to the museum and at a certain amount you get invited to their holiday parties and such. again, some perks. anyways whether you are visiting houston or you live here, mfah always have something going on so check it out!

As a member of the Fine Arts Museum, I can tell you it is the best contribution you can make. Many different exhibitions for all the family throughout the year. Learn about different culture, artists, pieces, films, you name it. Garage parking lot is a plus.

This is a great museum, but don’t just come for the art. This is a stylish, quiet atmosphere to come do work as well. Take your school or work to Cafe Leonelli in the School of Art. Visit the rooftop garden at the School of Art here as well; you can see the whole skyline from there.

I haven't had so much fun- AT an art museum! Of course I went a teenager, so fun is a must, thus MFA really delivered. If you are looking for a great place to reconnect with a loved one this is a great choice. Only thing is you will spend at least $55 including parking.

This is now one of my favorite museums in the world. Hospitable staff. The exhibitions were astounding. I loved the Gordon Park's photography exhibition of the Carmichael "Black Power" movement. So much to see like Picasso, photography, New Guinea tribal mask. I could go on but I stop here. This is a must go to visit when visiting Houston.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. The museum is easy to get to and there are several parking garages in easy walking distance. We went on free Thursday, and paid the additional fee to see the Van Gogh - Hockney exhibit. There are a lot of things to look at and we explored through the tunnel to get to the Contemporary Art Museum, (included in the admission), where even the bathrooms are works of design. There's a lot of walking and stairs, wear your comfy shoes. Budget the whole day to maximize seeing the whole museum. There are some nice restaurant choices an easy walk from the museum.

They have really changed things in the last few years! There is a beautiful park that you can sit and have lunch in before or after your visit. They do have guided tours available, make sure to ask! Parking can be tricky to find but there are parking garages attached to the museum you can park in for a fee. Beautiful works of art that are a must see! Museum entry is free on Thursdays!

Loved it!!! Took my little 13y old artist to see Hockney-Van Gogh exhibit. We had a great time. Hockney's paintings were beautiful and vibrant. Amazing to see nature through someone elses eyes and in so many different ways. If you have an eye for art, it's a must see. Exhibit runs through June 20, 2021.

It is awesome, I really appreciate the different galleries available, the quality of the service, and all the options for different approaches to art and sculpture. There is a room to include music history, in my humble opinion. Other interactive options (maps, audio, reading material, and artists' background) can be included to provide information. This will help to improve the experience of the visitors. Second day fees can be included is a lot to capture everything in one day. Thanks a lot

Absolutely amazing. I love art and going to mfa really helps me satisfy the creative side I have and inspires me. The facility is clean and tidy. We came to see the Ernesto Neto exhibit which was stunning and amazing! You got to interact with this piece which was great. The contemporary part of the museum was unique and I found that the new building with the cafe was modern and pleasant to be in. The garage parking snd underground tunnel was also great to be in. Great time for dates and those who enjoy art! Something for everyone. The cafe was nice and the food smelled delicious!

Bring walking shoes as this place is vast! The staff was super friendly helping us if we ever had questions. I loved the American history room. We tried to find the Impressionist display but wound up getting lost and never finding it. Still, one if the best art museums in the States I have visited. Doubtful you can see everything in one day.

I loved this museum!🖼️🎨 Here was my first time where I could appreciate original Van Gogh's paints and drafts. (It was a temporary exhibition, the cost was $25 per person but I had access to see more exhibitions). About the place is a big building and inside is super clean, you can find diverse painting art themes and sculptures. You can appreciate art of different times there. You can to take photos, and you can use your phone and captured a QR code for to listen a better art explanations. Sí hablas español hay información en el idioma también ☺️ You have to pay for an entrance, there are a parking lot and has a cost I paid $10 for 4 hours. The staff is very friendly, inside are a souvenir shop and coffee shop.

This is the best art museum that I’ve been to! The place is huge and has a lot of artwork from famous artists. On Thursdays, they have free general admission so try to go on a Thursday. They were also having a Van Gogh exhibit today. Also mask use is required and they will check your temperature before you go in.

Upon arrival, we had no clue that there were 3 separate buildings filled with art! There is so much to see that I would need a full week to appreciate all of it! The Van Gogh exhibit costs a bit extra, but I’m glad we got to see some of his pieces even though the exhibit itself is mainly Hockney and not Van Gogh. Parking was a bit tricky, but we found a cheaper lot that was only a couple blocks away. All in all, if you’re visiting Houston, you have to come here!

This was our first visit to this museum and I was impressed with the quality and layout of the exhibits. I wish they had a printed map available. It can't cost that much and it's much more convenient than having to look at a small map on your phone. Other than that we spent several hours there and didn't cover it completely.

I went here on Saturning afternoon right after lunch time. It was empty during that time, but eventually started getting crowded. (Not too crowded though, which was good.) I completely underestimated the colossal and immense scale of this museum. There are like two buildings that are connected with a tunnel with colorful lightning and each structure is three levels. Dozens of exhibit rooms and I almost got lost few times. I think I spent several hours, at least 3~4hours to see the basic fundamental art, sculptures, and creations that I wanted to see, but this is going to take multiple visits if you really want to see everything. I really enjoyed the several “gold galleries” or “gold collections” and I was always interested in bitcoin, the currency and gold. It helped me understand how gold was a global status symbol for multiple cultures throughout the world and how it was associated with wealth, youth (immortality), Gods, etc. I also enjoyed the “Treasuries of Spain” section where I had to pay $4 more, but enjoyed it and picked up myself few gift items at the shop..

The museum is always great... My only complaint ties into my decision to cycle to the museum for the first time. I spent so much time just attempting to find a bike rack. The placement of the bike racks in the area are almost in itself like a secret society. I made several calls and after 40+ minutes I gave up and cycled 10+ miles back to my home. What an exhausting day! I still however, recommend getting out to the museum district and exploring what the City has to offer.

Unfortunately I was able to spend only four hours in there. So I could visit their main campus only. It has great collection of ancient art. I liked very much their impressionism and postimpressionism collection. The only one disturbing thing there was the light. I had a strong feeling it was set up wrong way. This is my favorite spot in Houston. Obviously, the museum is vast and fascinating, did you know there are films throughout the week? All sorts of old and forien film, some even on actual film. I go nearly every week and have yet to go to a film I do not enjoy. It is a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an activity with a focus of thought provoking ideas and a bit more sophistication than marvel.

Beautiful museum with two floors of great art. You can spend better part of a day here. Went to see the Hockney-Van Gogh exhibit. If you want to see some really cool Van Gogh paintings, this is your chance before exhibit leaves US. Hockney work initially seemed undertoned, but as you progress through the exhibit you are awestruck at some really bright colors. His charcoal work is so fine, as well as ipad work. Very cool.

An absolutely stunning museum that is a must see in the Houston area. Located in a central part of the Museum district, it's easy to reach by public transport from downtown on the light rail. There are 2 massive buildings housing the largest collection of art work I have ever seen. It will take more than 1.5 hours just to walk through the entire museum without reading any of the descriptions. The art work spans a wide variety of time and geographies but is laid out in a fashion that's not too confusing. The special exhibitions are worth checking out as they are extremely unique and unlikely to be found anywhere else. Pricing is extremely reasonable and well worth the cost of admission. Staff are extremely friendly as well.

One of the best if not the best museum in Houston! The curation is impecable… you can find all type of art since classical as Greek, Egyptian, Renaissance to modern Rothko, Miro… to contemporary James Turell, Cuz diez. A very complete museum. Pro tip: you can enter and go out as many times during the day as you like, so profit from that and take a break though the museum, you’ll need to rest your eyes to enjoy more. The Van Gogh/ Hockney exhibit is amazing! If you’re looking for a cultural day in Houston, go to this museum.

This review is only for the Icons of Style exhibit, because I didn't spend much time in the rest of the museum, which I would love to go back and visit. I would highly recommend buying a ticket to the Icons of Style exhibit. They have a great complimentary audio tour to go with it and a fun, interactive photo option at the end.

We came for the Bamboo exhibit. The price of admission varies but does offer general admission to the museum as well. We paid for parking in the museum garage a block away. First 30 minutes are free. And it's worth it to keep your car cool on the Texas heat. Aside from the Bamboo exhibit there was plenty of FINE Art collections from around the globe like, India, Korea, China and Africa.

The Houston Museum of Fine Arts is a site to behold. Spread across two sprawling buildings and showcasing hundreds of artworks from ancient civilizations to modern artists, everything is curated and beautifully displayed. The museum has wonderful artifacts from Asian countries and a massive collection of gold artworks. The Japanese permanent collection is beautiful, with lots of information on the production of the old watercolors. There’s too much to write about but it’s a museum worth seeing and spending hours in. The cafe was delicious and we didn’t wait very long at all for our food.

Plus there is art in an outside park. Lovely downstair cafe with good food! Was able to view visiting an extensive Van Gogh exhibition through June 27, 2019! Included in entrance fee is audio unit. Excellent and easy to use. Loud and clear. Just point at painting and talk begins. Be sure to allow a day to roam and enjoy art collection at both buildings and park. Museum of Fine Arts is considered one of ten largest art museum in the United States.

From a perspective of a 22 year old it was actually quite pleasant and in some cases breathtaking to gaze upon the art and learn about what techniques, inspiration, and events conqured in their time period to lead them to paint or sculpt the pieces. They offer tours with guides in around groups of 6 or so depending on how busy they are, most of the ppl that work there are very knowledgable, if u ask they can have some real insight on certain artists, time periods and much more depending on their personal tastes. Anyways its a wonderful experience and i encourage everyone to stop by and give it a try, from topic discussions, to dates, change of scenery, cultural diversity knowledge, or just to see what its all about, whatever the case im almost positive something in there will take u back and have u thinking.

I traveled to Houston MFA last May for the Van Gogh exhibition, which was very impressive. Like Houston itself, the museum is sprawling, and not easy to navigate. Some areas are very dated, and not lighted well. I know the MFA is in the process of building a new complex, which is wonderful

Wonderful time for the family. There are two buildings and 5 floors of art to see. There are generations of art work and the facilities are clean. The special exhibits are fun but cost about $18 a person. There is an underground tunnel that connects both buildings in the a.c.

We visited many times and our last visit was for the exhibit from India. It was fantastic! This is one of my favorite museums to visit as a local, but I suspect it would great as well for tourists despite not having a clear focus on Texas or Houston itself. Inside the museum you will find amazing art exhibits from many eras and on many themes. Definitely check out the neon underground passage tunnel that connects the 2 buildings of the museum, it's nothing more than a neon tunnel but its beautifully made and very fun to walk through. Highly recommend! Side note: every temporary exhibit I've seen at this museum was on the shorter side IF you rush through it. I'd recommend grabbing the free audio guides and listening at the audio stations. Also take your time with reading the descriptions of your favorite pieces because most of the exhibits are about 4 halls long, and are made for you to take your time and concentrate on the art rather than rush. Photos are from the Oscar de la Renta exhibit, and the peacock in the desert: royal art of India exhibit.

The MFAH is a very well organized museum with plenty of rooms and modern facilities including video installations. The temporary exhibitions are always very interesting. Prices are reasonable. I recommend the membership if you love nearby, it’s a nice spot where to spend some Houstonian hot summer afternoon. Interesting the movie hall where you can watch films never seen in commercial cinemas.

One of my favorite places to go to when in Houston. Thursdays are the best days to go because museums are free on that day. However, there are more people. For parking, it's a little difficult now that they are doing construction in the lot where I normally park. So street parking it is, however make sure that you read the signs, it's tricky so don't get towed. Yesterday we attended the Big Bambú. It's $18 a person to get in. The experience is well worth it. We went on it twice to get our moneys worth. There's great art to look at in this museum. Again, it's one of my favorites. The staff is also very friendly. If you ever get hungry, there is a cafe!

This museum is my favourite place in Houston. I am very impressed by the wide range of art being displayed. Every movement in Western art from Classical Greek/Roman to Impressionism and Cubism is represented. There is also an impressive collection of Asian, Islamic, African and pre-Columbian art, as well as a selection of digital art, photography, and industrial design. I greatly appreciate the free admission on Thursdays and extended opening hours on Thursday evenings. The museum is conveniently located next to the Metro Rail "Museum District" station. There are 2 buildings which are connected via a futuristic underground tunnel. Pick up a map at the entrance of either building, as both buildings are huge.

Went to see exhibition called Soul Of A Nation. It was laid out beautifully. Very informative, provocative and interesting to view. Staff greeted us upon entering. Policies in place due to covid-19 such as mandatory masks and temperature checks. I bought our tickets online which was suggested. All in all still a great experience. Go to the museum!

Tourist in the area, and this was a nice museum to go and visit! Several floors and two different building that you can explore in. I feel like most of the collections don't change, but there is a large exhibit that is updated about every 3 months. When I went it was an exhibit on the Royal Family and their history, which was really unexpected!! Very nice staff as well, and good location. Parking garage was also helpful and you pay based on how long you have been there. Saw the entire museum in about 2 hours (also rushed a few parts due to closing)!

An Amzing place to visit even if you are not into arts. Went there as part of a research assignment for an elective class and didnt expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It's not just about painting and sculptures, it was more than that. Enjoyed the ancient collection from around the world plus the architecture of the building. The volunteers and the staff working there were friendly and answered some of my questions about the collection in detail. I expected to spend about half to one hour at most but ended up spending about 2.5- 3 hours there. Another best thing was that the entry was free! Parking around the area can be tricky and confusing around that area.

My husband and I visited the Museum of Fine Art Houston to see the Van Gogh Exhibit on Saturday of Spring Break which was the opening of the Exhibit. Upon arriving, we found parking in the parking garage. We are members but did not purchase the special access pass for the Van Gogh Exhibit. After checking the line several times, we decided to view the permanent collections and other exhibits then return at a later date to see Van Gogh. We ate lunch at the cafe and enjoyed our meal. We were impressed by the quality of their offerings. The cafe was crowded so it was difficult to find seating. We joined another couple who after seeing our difficultly invited us to join them. The staff did their best to clear tables and bring out orders as quickly as possible. We happened upon one of their exhibits featuring sculptures made from wood embellished with all types of small parts. The artist used nails, screws, small electronic parts and things I had no idea what they were. I thought my dad ought to give this a try because he's got quick the collection of quirky items.

Very interesting pieces, pretty good price. You can go free on Thursdays or get discounts for being a student, teacher, and possibly veteran (bring ID). The location is kinda cramped, but you can park in the streets beside it as long as you follow directions to any no parking signs. Would rate it higher if you could get small tours and better directions as to what types of art are where, but I liked the experience.

I spent 1.5 hours at this museum. They have quite the collection of jewelry and gold from all over the world. Parking is a pain so I went to this and the Museum of Natural Sciences one right after the other. Their cafe is closed due to COVID. Make sure you take a map or you might miss some of the exhibits. I couldn't bring the map up through their website. I would say their collection is comparable to the Arts Museum in San Antonio, but the one in Dallas is a lot more impressive. All the fancy jewelry at this museum makes it worth it though.

I wanted to see and enjoy the Ernesto Neto maze and it was fun. What I like about the museum is that if you pay for an special exhibit, it covers all the other regular exhibits; no need to pay double and kids under 12 are free. My daughter, 11, really enjoyed looking at all the paintings, sculptures and jewelry and going through the tunnels to go to the other buildings.

Wow! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this museum!!! As a New Yorker I am a bit spoiled when it comes to fine art but honestly! This museum has such an incredible collection, certainly one of the best art museums I've had the privilege of visiting in the US. Easily spent 4 hours here, fantastic collection of European paintings and very unique early American paintings you won't see elsewhere! There some pieces by well known artists (de Kooning, Rothko, Pollack, Degas). The works of these artists felt fresher to me than the ones I have seen by them elsewhere as they are lesser known pieces so it felt like I was discovering something new.

The art was very cool (saw a Soutine, Monet, Picasso and a Pollock! 🌟🌟🌟) but the vibe of the place was waaaaay off. The security is intense. Every room has an intense guard that stares you down like they're expecting you to commit a serious crime! I get it, the art is super special and should be protected but relax, I'm not gonna touch it! We all know how museums work. Chill. Oh, and the front desk lady was very rude for a 60 second interaction just to get tickets. Also, the art is soooooooo spread out. Over three buildings. Most of our experience was walking through halls to get to another long hall to get to the art. It didn't need to be so spread out. Would not go again. There are better museums out there.

We came on free museum day, yeah! We went through the mood tunnel art exhibit to the escalators . I really love that installation. The LGBT photos down the hall way by the cafe were beautiful and powerful; I especially loved the family portrait that is the first piece on the right. There was a Latin art section. Between Play and Grief. I loved the Iguana piece. Patrick likes the electric poles piece. Initially I found the Van Gogh exibit initially highly dissapointing, as the first room was filled with poor uninspired replicas of some of Van Gogh's most wonderous pieces. I have seen many of the originals. I love how Van Gogh painted noses and trees. I bought an anniversary gift for my husband in the gift shop. There was an exhibition right out side the Van Gogh exhibit. Van Gogh alive. It was a lot of fun and very cool.

I like how the museum hands out little speakers that you point to certain pictures and a narrator explains the work of art. My son wanted to come and see the drawing showing st. I flew to Houston on a Sunday for a business trip, so I decided to visit the MFAH when I arrived. I was blown away! It’s a stunning collection and campus. The museum’s layout can indeed be confusing, but I actually kind of enjoyed that part. It made for a bit of an interesting and fun experience; stumbling upon unexpected smaller rooms with beautiful works. The maps are helpful for navigation when needed, so I suggest keeping it handy on your phone or picking one up at the front. I really enjoyed both the permanent and temporary exhibitions. Make sure to check out the gold exhibits. I wish I had more time there since it’s massive and I felt like I barely touched the surface after a couple of hours. Truly a world class museum, and definitely a great place to go to escape the heat and humidity. I recommend using the audio guide that’s accessible on your own phone if you’re interested in a deeper dive into the pieces on display.

The only downside was that some of the museum attendants were overzealous and would tell people to step back when they were 2 feet away from an exhibit. That was irritating. Always a great time here at the Houston art museum. Although their prices are steep I'm thankful that I still have my college ID to get that $5 discount. Parking here is crazy, I recommend parking inside the lots inside the museum buildings. If you know you will be here for a long time, I recommend carpooling and stay for 30 minutes for free or 30 minutes to a few hours for $10. I went to the van Gogh exhibit. Very interested in the type of paintings he used whether it were oil paintings or charcoal usage, the different techniques he used were very astonishing. They have free artwork made by students and other exhibits if you want to stay longer. This would be an extra charge. Pricey, but a great way of spending your day.

An amazing and educational experience! We paid about $42 for a family of 6 (2 adults, 15yr, 11yr, 9yr, 5yr). Be ready to walk! Admission covers 2 buildings with 2-3 stories of art!! An underground tunnel connects the 2. Rich historical items and artifacts, from statues, to paintings, to clothing to utensils and much more. You definitely need several hours to half a day to throughly see and take it all in. If you love art and history, you will not be dissapointed. Our smallest kids would lose interest but we would talk about some of the history behind the art or how we read about those times and they would quickly regain interest.

My favorite museum in Houston: The Menil was closed due to renovation so we ended up here. First of all, go on a Thursday as it is gratis that day....park in the covered parking to keep your car from feeling like a freaking oven when you return to it after your visit. Pro: Everything was so beautiful, and so much history, from the Greco-Roman period, Egyptian artifacts etc The Biblically themed paintings was what I loved the best...makes some of the stories come alive. Took my daughter as a gift for her 20th B-Day at her request to see the Vincent van Gogh - His Life in Art Exhibition and it was awesome. Although we almost missed the companion display "Van Gogh up close" being that it was in another room away from the exhibit, Im glad that we looked into the room ourselves because there was no-one who directed you to that room once leaving the gift shop. The pop-up shop had really nice items of Vincent van Gogh and reasonably priced.

I went to see the Impressionist paintings on loan from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. I loved it! The exhibit was well planned. Layout, lighting and spacing were good. The selections were awesome. Grouping by theme was very informative. Outside the exhibit, the museum pieces are beautiful and delightful to see. Again, good layout. I hope to return soon for an all day visit.

We went for a film viewing and it was an awesome experience! The docents are super helpful. Parking is free after 5 on Thursdays which is groovy. I can't wait to head back for the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit.

I'm not a big fan of fine art museums, but this one has lots of variety. It's most likely made up of several structures. The design is a little perplexing. They also offer monochromatic passageways where the illumination forces you to see from a specific color shade. It's both strange and amazing at the same time. We spent two hours without even being able to observe the entire scene from afar. On Thursdays, parking and admission are both free, but there may be some limited places within. This location is enormous. I had no idea there were three structures. We only saw about half of it. We'll have to return, possibly several times, to see the remainder. We have seen a lot of fantastic artwork.

This was a fun outing, especially viewing the Van Gogh exhibits. There were some of his works from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, both located in the Netherlands. The museum also included Native American, South American and African art exhibits. The details on some of the Ethiopian carvings were almost unbelievable. We spent about four hours touring all exhibits in both buildings and it was money well spent. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

I was in Houston last October and I was so impressed with the Museum! The art was beautiful, the lay out made sense and the cafe/restaurant on the bottom floor was so delicious (although a bit expensive). I would definitely go again - and if you get a chance check out the sculpture garden across the street.

This is a nice museum in the Museum District of Houston, and the staff and security guards were friendly and well-informed. I saw the Van Gogh exhibit on display, which, unsurprisingly, was extremely crowded (we waited in line about an hour to get into the museum) but lovely all the same. The rest of the museum was delightfully empty, probably due to the crowd being at the Van Gogh exhibit, and I enjoyed it more because of this.

I'm a member so I go here all the time, whether it's a new exhibit, a film or just to have a place to walk around inside fir a bit. Closed Monday's and insanely crowded on free admission Thursday. There's multiple buildings so you can easily spend a full day walking around the museum. They also have a theater downstairs that shows new and old films. You can check the website for screenings.

Their special exhibitions are outstanding. I have taken my kids to see the Mexican American artists, Van Gogh, Picasso, MC Escher, and Erlich exhibits and they left amazed. You have to go for the van Gogh exhibit. It's stunning and super interesting too. It's not difficult to see that the Museum put a lot of effort into making sure there was a journey that the viewer could follow and emerge from bearing a general knowledge about the life, art, and connection between the two of van Gogh. The exhibit is only open til mid summer so capitalize on it while it's there. The rest of the museum is also really nice. The American art, gilded age objects, and Renaissance sculptures are also really interesting. All of the art was also nicely captioned and I left the museum knowing more about art than I did before. Overall, it was a valuable and fun experience.

Check out the “Home - So Different, So Appealing” exhibit before it ends on January 21, 2018. Very well done with some very thought provoking pieces and powerful stories. Makes you pause and think of what makes a home, what life is like for the many without, and how striving for a home changes you. Make sure to see the piece of a sliver of a home, the piece made of clay, and the conversation between father and son in their different homes.

Quite sprawling now. The layout is a bit idiosyncratic. In the end, the museum is judged by its exhibitions and permanent collections, and for the former there are frequent gems. One of the better American MFAs.

One of my favorite places in Houston. It has very open feel to it. Within three buildings, you can find art for your taste. I prefer American late 1800’s as far as paintings. I also enjoy reading the wise sayings on African shamans’ canes. If you have not been, definitely check it out.

VAN WOW! This museum is huge.. so much to look at..I'm glad i started in the van gogh exhibit .. my only complaint was the placement of the listing boxes (these little players that you have to guide you.. the boxes were on the wall alot of time next to the painting.. ) they were always blocked by people.. nothing to indicate they were even there ( lots of time I had to go back after walking away to discover I've issued it.. (hint make then suspended from the ceiling )..other wise all were beautiful

We joined the Houston Museum of Fine Arts this year. It's our first time to join. We have visited it in the past, but this year we decided we want to go more frequently. It has been worth it because there is plenty to look at Everytime you go. I particularly enjoy the Remingtons that were originally acquired by the Hogg family.

It's always wonderful to see world renowned art pieces and the greatest thing about this museum is its proximity to other popular attractions in Houston. I am from out of state so another visit would be a longer drive for me however I feel that the time and monetary investment is more than worth it.

Went to see the Vincent Van Gogh exhibition with the family. It was very crowded but totally worth the long lines. I would definitely recommend getting the free audio device. It really added a lot of interesting information. We spent over an hour admiring the beautiful paintings and drawings. I loved how the exhibition was set up to travel through time of Van Gogh's life. The last room was everyone's favorite. Don't forget to see the interactive exhibition after the main tour. Wow. It was fun for kids and adults. We got some cute photos and watched the little ones making their own art. We had a nice brunch at the cafe and on the way out walked through several galleries. There's really too much to see in one day. If you're driving into town park at the museum parking garage on Montrose. The walk to the main museum isn't far and there are some neat statues to see on the way.

It's nice and quiet and a very soothing place to go see some pretty pictures of the inside of the house and the other one is a good time for you to come to. The Museum of Fine Arts Houston has a wonderful collection of art! It is everything you want an art museum to be. I find myself visiting throughout the year due to revolving exhibits. Several Picasso pieces are part of the permanent collection. Don't forget to hop across the street to the free sculpture garden!

What a gem! The MC Esher exhibition was the one of the best I've ever seen. What a comprehensive collection and it was so descriptive. We love The Sugar Shack painting and the photo exhibit as well. Leonelli cafe was fabulous as usual. The pizza is so good and we had the Pea h Cobbler treat with vanilla gelato and it was amazing!

It is a large well curated museum. There are lots of information and even audio you can listen to from there website. They just had a great Picasso exhibit, and now they're wrapping up a large impressionist exhibit while they begin one on Escher. It is a really big place that you can enjoy many visits to.

This is my favorite museum in Houston. Always has amazing exhibits as well as engaging opportunities like studies, presentations, and guided tours. Go down and see the Turrell tunnel on your way to the other side of the museum. People often forget that there is also a MFAH Films section and theater where you can watch indie films and foreign films.

Loved it the impressionism exhibit was wonderful, however personal note, since a lot of the paintings are cover by glass experiencing how they were originally displayed is somewhat difficult due to the reflections of the lights and skylights, but this was only really affecting the Degas painting in the red room and some smaller painting in a display case in the blue room. Other than that little complaint the overall exhibit was enjoyable.

Wow could not believe how large this museum was went this weekend with hubby who had license renewal to attend. I had to occupy myself nd that I did, went to see the Escher exhibit of all his woodblock prints, truly amazing this guy was a genius. I am am. Practicing artist, I am lucky if I get a painting done in a month. Escher had more than two hundred woodcut prints, he had to draw and carve wood in order to make these prints. They were so precise with out use of camera or computer. Try to check out his work Google it you will see what I mean.

Very beautiful art and a beautiful structure. If you are lookimg for a place to study art, this is a great place. However, I would not take kids as some of the paintings have a lot of nudity. The food at the café was also good. All around this was a great experience.

I visited the museum this time primarily to see and experience the Big Bambú exhibit. It was amazing. There is a long line (expect a 30 minute wait unless you go early). And it leaves soon, so go check it out! That ticket counts as general admission, so see the other collections. There seems to be a lot more to see now, and the layout allows freedom of movement. I do wish there were more standard exhibits like the Big Bambú (not necessarily to walk across, but walk through). Overall, a good time for all family.

This museum has alot of unique art exhibits that unfortunately are not part of the free museum Thursdays. Because of this going to this museum to see everything can get a little pricey. The free day is also really busy so get there early. There's a sculpture park right across the street from here which is nice to walk around in and has seating if you want to talk.

Wonderful museum! After 5 years of very frequently visiting, I still notice paintings that I had not noticed before. There are 3 huge buildings full of art. The modern art building is comparable to NYC. It is amazing. Thursdays are free after noon.
