Reviews of The Art Institute of Chicago
Dylan Ivanov
Forever captivated by the beauty and history encapsulated in the Art Institute. Not a place to visit too often as the gallery is largely full of permanent installations, but there is always some sort of special exhibition/gallery taking place when they are open. Entire building is extremely clean with staff and maps scattered around in order to make your experience more enjoyable. Many famous works that one recognizes from pop culture or past studies are able to be seen here. One of the top art museums in the world and an undeniable staple in Chicago’s history. Do not miss out on viewing everything it has to offer.

Thia museum was enormous and I am pretty sure a week in this place still wouldn't be enough time. I wish I would have had more time to appreciate each piece but what I did see was amazing in every single way. The museum is beautiful, spacious, and clean. They have attendants in every room to help you find your way. I would absolutely recommend a visit here and be prepared to spend the way and wear comfortable footwear. They have 4 levels and multiple buildings and wings. I typically don't use elevators unless its a high rise but I did today. There are multiple entrances and exits as well.

This place is immense and worth every penny of the admission fee. See some highlights like American Gothic or that famous Seurat painting at the park you recognize from studying pointillism back in school. But don’t miss some hidden gems: creepy Goya etchings from 1800s Spain, the picture of Dorian Gray from the 1945 film, and a fascinating collection of miniature rooms that look ready for Stuart Little to move in. They also have a very wide range of Picasso styles collected under one roof and the impressionism section truly is a must-see!

It is so famous that I had expected the exhibit to be as informative and comprehensive as the British Museum or the Metropolitan. That might be too challenging. The display in each section is lack of clear plot/storyline, by which I mean the items are like various bread slices in a basket, correlated but not unable to compose a full piece. I understand this is an art museum, so the explanation notes mainly focus on art perspective. Still, for visitors who might come from different backgrounds, the museum could have done a better job of interpretation.

Beautiful building filled with beautiful paintings. I especially enjoyed the Monet collection. I thought I would be taken by the lilies, but wheat piles just took me to another dimension, and i was sober, alright ;). I also liked Van Gogh and other impressionists. The collection of eastern ceramics and wall paintings was also impressive. We stopped by only for few hours, so we didn't see everything, but i definitely plan to come back ;).

The "One Hour Tour" is excellent!
We found ourselves very short on time the day we were meant to visit the museum (about an 1hr 15min). Luckily, on the visitor's map there's a "short on time" suggestion page of the museum's highlights. It was perfect. It included a lot of the most well known pieces you can't miss (Rodin, Tiffany window, Picasso) and we still had time to see other rooms.
This museum is not to be missed but if you feel like an hour is too short, do it. It's worth the trip and tickets are discounted.

A must see place when visiting Chicago. Has one of the larger Impressionist collections in the USA. Good selection of European art.
In the center of town, next to Millennium Park. Lots of public transportation near the museum. Multiple reasonably priced parking garages around.
Get there early! Can be very crowded with lots of tourists. Consider buying a membership if you are visiting more than 3 days! Members get early entry.
Highly recommend this place! Great for family with kids!
Alex Lichty
Yes, this place is pricey. However, you could spend an entire day here and not see everything. There are so many different types of art, pieces from different artists, new exhibits. I spent 3 hours here and maybe saw half of the museum (take into account I like to spend time reading each description). I highly recommended picking out exhibits you’d like to see ahead of time in case you don’t get to see everything.
Emily McGaver
Amazing art museum! Easy to get lost and staff isn't super helpful. However the exhibits feel well curated and were thought provoking. Easy to spend HOURS here, but there is no reentry and the cafe is closed.
eva gartnerova
Well. It is for sure that they have a great collection and you can see some very famous and important art there. I personally very enjoyed the exhibition of architecture and design, I just think it deserves more space. What really stands out for me is their truly amazing educational center and participatory activities!

Wonderful museum. Of course you should visit. Don’t listen to the art snobs. It couldn’t be anything other than 5 stars. Sure, some art isn’t for everyone and a lot of it is confusing and dumb, it’s a conversation haven. There are many beautiful pieces as well. There are super old sculptures, coins, and war things. There are so many things to see and talk about. It’s clean, well-staffed, and a must see for anyone.
Monica M
We bought the ticket through city pass so you save% and waiting time. You just scan your pass.
There’s lot of 3-4 floors, but don’t worry they have elevators.
During summer time, there’s a lot of people so your time of browsing can be prolonged.
The museum was extraordinary! No wonder it’s said that the Art Institute of Chicago is one of the most visited museums in the world, preserving some of art history’s oldest and most beloved masterpieces. I love how the art were displayed , however, the structure of map museum can be confusing. The security workers were very friendly to point out your ways.
Beside famous paintings, sculptures, the Thorne miniature in basement is mind blowing.
Enjoy your visit

World class art museum, located right downtown Chicago adjacent to Millenium park. Thousands of priceless works for art from throughout human civilization and artistic eras. Guided audio tours as well as docent led tours are available. Cafeteria and gift shop on site. A serene and marvelous place to take in the awe and grandeur of some of humanities greatest artistic accomplishments. This place will fill you with wonder and a sense of peace. A spectacular way to spend a contemplative and energizing day. Check the website for any special exhibits happening during your visit.
Ritesh Kasat
Huge museum in downtown Chicago. It has a large collection of exhibits. We spent 2 hours here and tried to skim through a lot of exhibits. But you need a full day or two to do justice to this place. It has exhibits from all over the world and of various times in history. Very informative and entertaining
Stephen Wilke
One of the best museums in the city and a premiere art collection that rivals any in the United States. Certainly, it is the best collection in the Midwest. Regular new exhibits throughout the year make membership well worth the cost. All of the staff are knowledgable and helpful.
Cortney Ayers
We spent about 4.5 hours at the museum and did see everything. We sped through some of the exhibits - this place is huge! You’ll see such a variety of art - from paints to sculptures, to jewelry and dishes - they have so much to look at. The medieval rooms were very unique, and the contemporary art section was intriguing. You’ll see Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Jackson Pollock - and many more. There are plenty of bathrooms and two campus gift shops. It’s easy to get turned around and miss things - lots of weaving and back tracking. Wear comfy shoes - it’s a lot of walking!
bstcell
Great place to visit right in the heart of Chicago. Well managed building with impressive exhibition. I would recommend weekday morning as your best time to visit. Get you ticket in advance and see if you can adjust your schedule based on their data. Half day recommended, don't worry about food as good places are around. Skip modern art if you tired, start with classics through main entrance surrounded by lions.
Kathleen Cody
I loved visiting this museum! There was so much to see that the 3.5 hours i spent there wasn’t enough to appreciate all the history, art, culture, and antiquity. My favorite exhibits were the Impressionist and Renaissance exhibits. The visitor guide was super helpful.
The place reminded me of the MET in NY. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone who is a lover of art, history, and culture.
Tim Mathias
Went to see the Cezanne exhibit. It was fabulous! We also spent time in one of the gardens with the statue representing the 5 Great Lakes. Overall a lovely experience. Highly recommended!
Susanna Klayman
Truly amazing array of art - you need to spend the day here, or space it out over a couple of days to get the full experience without rushing. I particularly enjoyed the Modern Art and Contemporary Art, as well as the 'Desire Lines' exhibit by South African artist Igshaan Adams. Highly recommended.
Felipe M
Great museum with the largest collection of impressionist works outside of France! Plan to spend at least 4 hours. The Institute also offers extended evening hours on some summer evenings...also recommend using parkwhiz or park hero to find a reasonable priced place to park within walking distance.
Maria K
Great museum to visit! The collections are not overwhelming and displayed pieces are beautifully arranged. I visited Cezanne exhibit, also went to see a bunch of Georgia O’Keefe’s pieces and the Egyptian collection. Cezanne exhibit was fantastic. Great retrospective of pieces spanning over 30 years. Next to Cezanne was a room with modern American art and there were at least 10 Georgia O’Keeffe’s pieces. So wonderful to see that. Egyptian section was just before the room with Greek statues. Walk down the stairs and in this dimly let room are treasures of the ancient Egypt. I really liked how dark the room was and how the pieces were beautifully displayed. The Met in NYC has so many pieces in their Egyptian collection grouped so close together that you loose your appreciation for how beautiful the pieces actually are. It reminded me of visiting museums in Egypt (especially in Aswan) where a lot of the collections are shown in darker rooms with strategically placed lights. Anyhow, loved the visit and can’t wait to come back!
Faith Franseen
This was such a cool experience. The institute is massive and could honestly take you a whole day to walk through and look at everything if you wanted. They have a large variety of art such as Greek, Chinese, modern, and abstract.
The pricing is quite reasonable as I got a student discount. I definitely recommended going here, it is a perfect day activity and I don’t know too much about art but still really enjoyed it!
Ronny Sison-Ayala
These are some of my favorite pieces of art! I loved this museum but it is a bit unorganized. I still think the High Museum of Art in Atlanta is superior to this one. But fun experience. We did it as part of the city tour. Nothing that had me like WOOOOW.
burn after reading
One of the best museums in America for sure. So many pieces to look at we had to sit down for a few minutes and clear our minds. The miniatures on the lower level were very neat. I didn't expect to enjoy them so much.
James Naismith
I am not that much into art. However this was a magnificent place. 25
Usd a head. Four pics illustrate the range, Marcus Aurelius (one of my historical interest), colonial furniture, night hawks and impressionists. I am informed by my more informed and cultured partner the impressionist collection is stunning. Don’t miss I think.
Seth Kleinglass
“I could stare at Nighthawks all day long.”
The art museum has a very nice collection of pieces. I really liked the museum app - it offered on-demand tours and audio guides of the museum. There were special call outs for certain pieces giving history, facts, and others information. They essentials tour is very good - it gets you around the museum and shows off highlights with an added audio guide. It’s like your own personal tour guide but at your own pace. The miniature rooms in the basement are not to be missed!
Annie Wood
There's no way to see it all in one day, so plan your visit and pick out the exhibits or pieces you really want to see. I especially enjoyed the Impressionists and the miniature rooms. Be sure to get or download the map too, it's a bit of a maze but the signage is well done and the staff are helpful for navigating. I'd love to go back another time and see more!
Robert Ribciuc
Top flight art institution with a stunning variety of exhibits spanning time, geography, and art currents. The Impressionism section packs a juicy collection of Monet, Manet, Renoir, and beyond. Also not to be missed is the Miniatures section, showing European, Asian, and American miniature rooms from across several centuries ... informative trips back in time and likely the inspiration for many a decorator for series like Bridgerton. The facilities are all efficient, clean, and service oriented. The bag check is a very nice option for visitors from out of town who may not have made it to their hotel yet.
Walker Holdeman
can’t believe it took me this long to visit. The exhibits are breathtaking and quick to go through even if you read all the signs (i do). Don’t know if children would find it too fun but definitely worth taking your partner out for a good time not to mention they have a great gift shop with decent prices considering.
Brittany Latoz
Wonderful experience, my only issue is accessibility for wheelchairs. It is accessible, but you have to take a million elevators to see everything. I understand it's an old building, so I didn't take any stars away. The work was absolutely amazing❤️❤️
Greg Eakins
If you love art, this is a must-see place. If you don't love art, you can still enjoy this place. The place is beautiful and extremely well maintained. The display rooms are spacious and I never felt like it was over crowded. They have a few famous pieces you've probably see online or in a book somewhere.
Walking through and checking out everything shouldn't take more than about 3 or 4 hours.
Oh - and military veterans get in free!
J M
Excellent museum, not to miss on your trip! Displays were really well put together, very tastefully done, super visually appealing, especially the armor rooms. I can't wait to go back.
Matt Moe
Such an incredible museum with so much to see and explore. I spent 3 hours here, but it would not be hard to spend an entire day viewing all of the amazing pieces on display. I recommend pre-ordering tickets and getting there first thing in the morning. If you have a free weekday, that’s an even better way to avoid the large crowds.
PEACHMODE
Need more than 5-6 hours to see the museum carefully. Was great to see all the famous art collections here. Wish there were a detailed guidebook instead of visitor guide (map).
Mary Biancalana
Enormous and very comprehensive Art Institute. It is very well organized and easy to navigate around the entire multiple building structure. Each of the exhibits are divided by not only the arrow but also by the region or country from which some of the art pieces were obtained.
Nir Arad
This is a very impressive museum with many fascinating exhibitions. The miniature rooms were like nothing I've seen before. For us visiting on a weekday, the adult fast pass ticket was a waste of money since there were no lines to speak of.
Marco Marone
From masterpieces to contemporary works, this museum houses the largest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art on the planet outside the Louvre. For $25 (USD) per adult; you'll get to spend the day admiring some of the most iconic pieces of art the world has to offer. The place is huge, there's a lot to see and a lot to do here!
Rebecca Yuan
It is one of the most impressive best art galleries I have been to. So much to see, I spent 3 hours wandering by myself. Still haven’t done all of them. You must check out the exhibits when you can. The Paul Cezanne one is a master of piece. I am short of words and still feel overwhelmed with the art world. Kindly remind you to enter from the modern wing entrance, no line at all
Francisco Olalde
The Art Institute offers a variety of paintings, sculptures, stained glass, miniatures, and traveling exhibits from different cultures around the world.
Some installations feature ancient works, others offer more contemporary works.
You will see something new each visit. And this location is worth visiting more than once.
Cameron Rankin
Wonderful experience spending a few hours at the Art Institute on a whim. It was $25 per out-of-state adult, which I thought was reasonable for what's there (which includes some beautiful/famous pieces). The only problem was that the map was a little difficult to read, but we managed. We hope to go back someday, because just a few hours wasn't enough!
Fernando Burgés
One of the best art museums I've seen. Beyond the collection itself, I found the info plaques for each object or painting truly original. Not the usual boring info that you see in museums around.
Leo Kim
Was pleasantly surprised by how large the museum was. Great variety of artworks across different historic periods. Make sure to plan enough time, especially since the museum closes pretty early.
Travis Antone
Enjoyed this museum. Would have been nice to buy a drink or snack somewhere as the place on site was closed. The native American exhibit was kind of lame, definitely could be room for way more stuff. Other than that I enjoyed everything else. Definitely worth a visit.
Cindy Ly
One of my favorite museums I have ever been to! There were so many famous paintings and sculptures I have studied in school that I got to see in real life. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Chicago. Who doesn’t like to see paintings by Picasso, Monet, Seurat, or Van Gogh! ?
E. H.
Cezanne!! Finally, my favorite artist has a huge collection here on display in Chicago. I’m so happy. Must see in person, the catalogue is so beautiful and oil paintings are so special in person, up close they look one way but from a distance, they appear different. If you have curiosity stream, there is an art heist episode about a cezanne a life painting that was stolen by an attorney (essentially) and it’s a really fascinating story as well.
Buy tickets online to avoid the lines.

Loved the miniature room collections. Lots of great impressionist painting as well and everything else. So good that I cannot resist taking pictures that my phone battery died twice 😂 …
Maggie P.
Amazing museum. Glad we included the art institute as one of our stops in Chicago. There was almost no wait to enter & once you're in the staff is always there to help you in case you get lost or like to see another exhibit in the museum. I enjoyed my time there & spent 4-5 hours viewing everything from European art to Eastern Asia so it was worth the $25 out of state fee in my opinion. Also I love how this museum was kept very clean despite it being a touristy area... We could immediately tell that Chicago loved its' museums as much as we did based on the care we've seen.
Armando Contreras
Beautiful place, amazing collection of art from some of the most well-known artists of all time. I particularly enjoyed their collection of impressionist paintings. A once in a lifetime experience.
Tiger Lilly
Typical museum with modern art, great views, cute cafe and gorgeous architecture. Too bad they haven't repatriated sacred Indigenous items back to their communities for the stolen items. Hopefully one day.

Not available for Monday and Tuesday.
The late ticket of $15 I think it’s a great bargain if you know what you’re going to look. Impressionist, check; van goth, check; armory, check; Nighthawk, check.
I will go for the farmer couple next time.
franseen
Loved this museum! Lots to see so I would recommend taking the whole day to explore or do some planning and hit the areas that you'd like to see.
My personal favorites were the miniature rooms and the art of the americas and the contemporaries!
C B
Stunning. I can’t even describe how wonderful this museum is. We’re from California and got memberships because we loved it so much! You can easily spend days in here and still not see everything. Very friendly staff too.
Go! You won’t regret going!
emily cook
Definitely worth a visit when coming to Chicago. The museum is huge and there is so much to see - you could easily spend most of a day here. They actually had more women artists hung than I was expecting, which is always nice to see. They also have a great selection of Impressionism (one of my personal faves) as well as contemporary and modern art. The main exhibition when I visited was Barbara Kruger, and it was really well done.
Nishaan Dulay
Man I wish I had more time here. The place is immense and has such incredible artwork. Such a range of exhibits and each item is well explained. I only spent about 2-3 hours here but could’ve easily spent 2-3 days roaming. Would recommend to anyone interested in art as you get to see so much for a great price. Gift shop was cool too, wish they had more colouring books.
Noah P
Great museum. It was quite busy when I went but there was still plenty of room to get around and see everything. Lots of cool historical pieces. A must see for any art student.
Noel Maguigad
amazing collection of impressionist art and the newer Modern wing is an impressive collection. This museum has the best variety of art that tops or rivals any museum in the world. Go see for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
Lauren Sellers
This is a fantastic art museum! I love coming here by myself or with friends and family. I 100% recommend the membership. It’s so easy to come and go and well worth it if you go a couple times a year.
angie
Definitely one of the most amazing art collection I have ever seen. I loved how many medieval paintings they have as well vast variety of artists. Also, the architecture of the place its truly beautiful. A must for everybody to come. Not even that expensive and just in the Loop.
allison g
This place is amazing. But wear your walking shoes. There is so much to see. Take your time, go through every room. Really enjoy the museum. .they literally have everything you can imagine. My daughter commented on a theme, armour for children. Wow.
Daniel Cha
It is the Art Institute of Chicago. Is there anymore explanation or reviewing necessary or needed? What an absolutely amazing place and an amazing experience. It is a must stop, see and visit if you are in Chicago. Oh and for the records, I am not even an "art" person or have zero interest in art. But again, this place blew my mind and was a life experience that I will not ever forget!
Mer Elizabeth
We had a fantastic time at the Art Institute! Wish we could have spent more time there tbh. We went on a Thursday as soon as it opened before leaving town to try and get the most time possible with the art. We saw lots of amazing pieces and didn't even make it to the lower floors. Kids under 14 are free, which is pretty awesome, and they even checked our carry-on bags along with our coats. It was the perfect ending to our Chicago trip. We shall return!
Olga Bensen
Second floor is my love!!! Impressionists are my passion. Also great collection of contemporary art. I’ve been there 5-6 times and every time I open something new to me. Very very highly recommended
Kelly Tooker
We maintain a membership at the Chicago Art Institute, and prefer to visit during member hours. With a membership, we find that we visit more often, and can take advantage of new and changing exhibits. We drive up from Indiana to visit. From the South Bend area it's less than a 2-hour drive, and the Art Institute validates parking.
Patrick Lopez
Incredible! The story/history behind the paintings, and the artists, is captivating. You have a real feel for what it was like during each time period. The Chagall Windows are a must see. You can easily spend hours in this museum.
Celia L.
Wonderful collection here, there's art that everyone will be interested in. Depending on how long you want to spend here your trip could be anywhere from a couple hours to a full day! Plenty to see and great atmosphere.
Julie Neff-Encinas
Still one of the world's finest museums! Beautiful artworks, wide variety of settings for the displays. Very informative descriptions for many of the works. Helpful staff. The cafés are all closed.
Michael Umhoefer
Ask for directions inside. Water bottles can be refilled inside... It was the most amazing art I have ever seen and also the most confusing building I have ever been to. Never have I ever been so confused about the layout of a place in my life. The maps and layout are the Ying to the artworks Yang. Enjoy and ask for directions.
Costa Leese
Very interesting Museum! They have a discount for residents but haven't asked me for any proof of residency. I might have been lucky though.
If you don't have much time, I would recommend the Thorne miniature rooms. Definitely the most unique exhibition of the museum. Overall a great museum and you'll need at least 3 hours to see all of it
Christa K
Absolutely beautiful! Great selection. Astounding artwork. Hope my daughter decides to go to school here. Was thankful for all the COVID precautions because it was busy!
Shelley Andersen
I had forgotten how extensive this collection is. Our family spent a wonderful day exploring various exhibits and left knowing that we will be returning soon. The Art Institute is truly a gift to us all.
Edwin Devilas
I can never compare museums, but this one is up there. Such a fine selection and abundance of fine art from sculpture to painting, and artifacts. Make sure you eat and hydrate before not because you can't bring that inside but because there's alot to see and will take a while depending how long you want to stay there.
Sue Ream
The Art Institute holds very nice collections of various genres of art, and is nestled in Millennium Park right by The Bean sculpture. While not as big as the New York City museums, it holds an impressive collection of art and is worth the visit.
Blue Lilly
It looks small from the outside. But the inside is HUGE. It took us 5hours just to completely enjoy 3 exhibits. But honestly they have so much here. From Monets to Picasso, Greek to Indian to African sculptures, Historical photos, mini houses etc. We used the citypass to go in. But individual tickets are for $25 for adults I think.
Ever Sun
I love this art museum. It has wonderful galleries and houses impressive collection of impressionism era paintings, like those of monet. Monet's paintings r truly beautiful and picturesque. They've got some by Picasso and van Gogh as well, and the bedroom by van Gogh which will always be one of my favorite paintings. When I went they had Cezanne as one of the special exhibits and it was an amazing gallery. Lots of pieces by cezanne. The museum also has a lot of ancient Greek, asian, and hindu artifacts and sculptures.
U should expect to take 3-4hrs to be able to cometely wander around the museum and take in everything that's there. It's well worth the time especially if ur only visiting Chicago for a few days.
Clotilde de Mersan
The richness of all collections is super impressive, spanning across time (from Antiquity to Post-modernism), geographies (America, Europe, Asia) and forms of art (painting, sculpture, photography, drawings, architecture, design, performance and collectibles from the past, including armors). My favorite piece was the Chagall Windows sending a message of peace and love through creativity. It is worth coming to Chicago just for the sake of visiting the Art Institute, it is an absolute jewel.
Caleb
The Art Institute is a gallery for the hardcore enthusiast, but enjoyable for everyone. There are so many pieces in the museum that it’s hard to see everything in a single visit and appreciate it. Home to many priceless classics (particularly impressionist paintings) and some not-so-classics too, it’s really got it all.
Jis David
Great place. Clean and well maintained. Friendly and professional staff. Much to learn about. They have a good collection of things to see from around the world. I very much enjoyed the visit. At the time of my visit it was free for veterans. This place had lots of good art pieces to check out. Learned so much about several places and much of history. I wanted to check out the native American arts and African arts but it was a bit far. May need a whole day to visit everything.
Hortonization
Literally SO worth the trip. Spent 5 hours in there and STILL had more to see!
Take your time to enjoy the beauty of the installations and the history stored within.
Jen T
This museum has nice exhibits but the layout is spaced out and can be confusing. I would’ve allotted more time for the visit to find and see everything. The staff was very helpful.
Katie Goulet
Enjoyed my visit here. Some very famous paintings here, which are fun to see, but also some interesting pieces I've never seen before, so take time to explore and see more than just the most well-known ones.
Dr. Marco Navarro-Genie
Wen to see the Rembrandts and stayed for the rest of collection. This is impressionist heaven outside of French territory. Could have spent another three days in there and left wanting more. Marvellous place.
Sekhar Nalluri
My experience at the Art Institute of Chicago was truly unforgettable. As soon as I stepped into the museum, I was greeted with a sense of awe and wonder. The grand architecture of the building alone was enough to take my breath away.
The first exhibit I visited was the Impressionism and Post-Impressionism collection. I was struck by the vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes of the paintings. I was especially captivated by the works of Claude Monet, which seemed to come alive before my eyes. The way he captured the play of light on water in his series of paintings of water lilies was truly breathtaking.
Next, I explored the American Art collection. I was fascinated by the various styles and techniques used by the artists. The realism of Edward Hopper's paintings was especially striking, and I felt like I could step right into one of his scenes.
One of the highlights of my visit was seeing the famous painting "American Gothic" by Grant Wood. The piece is so iconic and well-known, and it was incredible to see it in person. I also enjoyed seeing the works of contemporary artists such as Jeff Koons and Yoko Ono.
Overall, my experience at the Art Institute of Chicago was an incredible one. The museum's vast collection of art from all over the world is truly impressive, and the building itself is a work of art. I can't wait to go back and explore more of the museum's treasures.
Harout A
If you love art then add this museum to your must visit list. Huge museum where you can easily spend half a day. Different exhibits, one of my favorite ones was the miniature room. Some really unique art pieces from around the world. Entrance is also affordable compared to other art institutes in the country.
Carlton Wyatt
The breadth of offerings here is just amazing. We were there for over four hours and were only able to see about half of what is available. Well laid out and displayed, comfortable.
Asterin Joy
Great place to relax and enjoy artworks, my favorite section is the photography gallery and the mini house gallery located in the basement. If you are a university student who is in collaboration with the museum you can have free admission, same with cps high school students!
sayak chakrabarty
Great place for weekend visit. A great museum and it will take about 3 hours if you want ot visit all the rooms and take your time, a lot to see too. Taking photos is allowed too.
Stephanie Weiss
Stunning collection of art! Seeing pieces you've seen in movies and books was exciting experience! Glad that Chicago is very vigilent about checking vaccination cards and masks!!
chad svastisalee
The Art Institute of Chicago is a must visit place in Chicago. So much to see in it's many galleries. The old and Modern wing is bustling with visitors taking in the sights. Classical artists, furniture and sculptures shine. The Art Institute of Chicago represents many great artists throughout the ages. Many pieces have been donated or curated from well known Chicagoans and North American philanthropists. The museum is at a limited capacity due to COVid but didn't feel overwhelmed on this trip. Plan at least two hours, wear comfortable shoes and bring snacks and water bottle as no cafes or food service was running at this time.
Steven Kerbs
You can spend all day here if you want. We did a pretty quick walkthrough of everything in 2.5 hours. Our favorite was the miniature houses!
Evan Schwab
There is some fantastic history here. I've been to quite a few museums in my day and this is top 3 for sure. A few paces from lake Michigan, It is worth stopping by if you are walking the lake front. All you need is a good hour or two to cover all 3 floors. I'd go again if I come back to Chicago
Ashmath Ali
Amazing collection, Van Gogh , Picasso to many new and old collection, huge area to cover in 3 hours, go prepared to enjoy the various collection, photography, art, lots of historical ones, from Egypt to Greek to Asian, African. Don’t miss the miniature collection. Amazing

We spent hours strolling around the Art Institute of Chicago and yet, I think we missed a few. There are the famous works or art such as American Gothic, van Gogh's The Bedroom, Nighthawks, and The Old Guitarist, to name a few. The Cezanne exhibit was also pretty amazing.
Ayush Chandel
Well I'll say it's a must but only once.
Nonetheless I really enjoyed the Swami Vivekananda auditorium. You need to request specifically to visit the same.
Me and my wife were dumbstruck and mesmerized by the Claude Monet's works especially we learnt how to appreciate his art.... Step back a few feet and they emerge in their full glory.
Chai Struck
I loved all the art exhibitions, especially the miniature homes were lovely! I could honestly spend a whole day there slowly going through the gallery. The institue had beautiful architecture which adds the umph factor. The staff members could have been nicer though - ie when reminding the mask has slipped down the nose a bit, but they were a little uptight and rude. Overall though, great place for an intellectual day!
Kerry Anderson
A great experience to say the least. Many artifacts and paintings to look at and think about. The Egyptian exhibit on the lower floor was still being made so that was a bummer. I enjoyed my time and took a deep breath and reminder to myself that sometimes you don't need words to express your viewpoint in life
Jennifer
This place is amazing. It was super hot today in there but... being in the presence of the greats... wow be sure to visit the impressionist exhibit!
Diego DeLaGarza
Very nice museum with some quality, well known artwork. Go after 5pm if you want half off tickets! You can easily go through if you want to just hit the most popular pieces.
Carmel Dunham
Cezanne exhibit was awesome. So much fun to see all of it. Will never forget it. Its that good. Tip: Enter from the back no wait.
Cj Robards
Friendly staff and definitely an all day or more experience. 2nd floor find the famous paintings. Although hidden gems are bountiful. Extremely clean and a beautiful building.
Hrishikesh Ghodke
Great Place! Swami Vivekananda Ji 1893’s speech is what excites and attracts Indian people.
Fullerton Hall was closed where the speech happened.
Note: you need to inform staff to open the Hall where you can click pictures and enjoy sitting on vintage chairs.
Gregory Kats
My sister has the Member pass, so we got in an hour before the general public. I haven't been to the art museum in 20 years, when my high school did a day trip here!
They've expanded the museum since I've been there. Parking at the Millennium Park underground garage is great, stairs lead right to the south entrance at the Modern Art exhibit wing.
Rob FayMcKinstry
If you’re a resident, it’s a great place to unplug and take it all in. There is always something new here. And snag a membership if you can!
If you’re visiting, it’s a must stop. Their collection is world class.
Marco Ermini
One of the oldest and largest museum in the world, it is an absolute must-see when visiting Chicago. After you visited, you can said you saw “American Gothic” and Van Gogh’s “Bedroom in Arles” and “self portrait” live.
It has an encyclopaedic approach - meaning it has collections from the whole history of humanity and from all the continents. You have to dedicate several hours if you want to have a fairly complete visit.
Pro tip: when you enter, you can get a map to orient yourself inside the museum. It is fairly complicated because there are rooms on the first and second level that are not connected with the other room on the same level - you need to actually go down one level and go up again through another staircase. Spend a bit of time studying the map, and check the room number printed on the walls to get a reference on the map.
The map itself is something you can keep to bring home and it serves as a nice, free memorabilia. It also includes a list of the major attractions to see if you are pressed for time.
At the time of this writing (July 2022) the café of the museum (which is very renewed) is closed due to post-COVID organizational long tails.
Ambi Bobmanuel
If you like art museums, this place has a bit of everything! 10/10 recommend. I could spend the whole 6 hrs here and still not be done exploring.
Vanessa McCormack
A great museum with some fabulous art work! Can highly recommend. For best prices, I would suggest buying the CityPass ticket which saves money on some of the top city attractions
Ragheed Al Ameen
A huge and great collection of artworks, and you will need 4-5 hours to explore most (not all) galleries. It's definitely worth the time and money spent there.
Fabian Gonsalves
What a lovely place ...do many paintings across the world with masters like Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso on display.
All the great artists of USA are on display on the first level and it's a must see !!
Amber Monique
This museum has exquisite exhibits, especially if you love to see sculptures and figurines. It also houses "American Gothic" and "Blues" amongst other exceptional pieces!
Roxanne P
It was nice, not a ton of people so it was good. Loved the miniature rooms the best,a true artist recreated those pieces and they were breathtaking 😍😍😍
Can you tell i love antique furniture...even if they are dollhouse scale …
Pranati Sumedha
A regular visitor to this wonderful art collection
I have yet to discover a few sections that I always miss when I get lost in the art and the artist. The latest Cezanne exhibit was definitely worth it. Gem in Chicago, would recommend to any art enthusiast
Christopher Smith
Amazing museum that has so much to offer. We only got to explore a fraction of the exhibits, but what we saw was inspiring and captivating.
Jonathan Aluiso
You’re going to need more than 1 day to explore this museum! There is a TON, of things to do with multiple levels. To truly appreciate the art you should take time to enjoy and relax.
Madhurima Sengupta
It was delightful to visit the place from where Swami Vivekananda gave his speech at 1893 at the World's Parliament of Religions. Also a great place for art lovers to get a glance of the works of famous painters like Picaso and Van Gogh.
Alphonse Morin
It's a HUGE museum. If you want to see everything, you'll need to start early. However, there are some amazing pieces here. It's a great way to spend a colder day downtown.
Autumn
Good views of China and Greek but for Egypt section less. It is a good place to read books, drink coffee and get kids education. Quiet and good value.
Rana Siroosian
It was my first time visiting here.
I do suggest buying the tickets in advance. If you are planning to carry a backpack or a big purse make sure you check it in beforehand because they won’t let you to go in.
Make sure you have a map if you want to go to specific spots.
MJ Kim
Whenever friends visit me in Chicago, I will always take them to the Art Institute of Chicago. It can be a bit overwhelming in your first visit, but each visit “ages like fine wine” and makes you appreciate this museum more and more. Needless to say it has an impressive collection of artworks, and presents captivating special exhibits from time to time. Some of my favorites has been the Manet and Rodin exhibits, and I can’t wait for the next special exhibits! 🎨
P.S. Student membership deals are wonderful (just $75 per year and you can bring one additional guest along for free) 👍 Although the cafeteria, café and the member’s lounge is still closed, hopefully it’ll be reopened soon!
Victor Valerio
First time in Chicago and it was a must visit. Not gonna lie art isn't really my Forte...but wow ...it was an experience for sure. Can't tell you much about what things suppose to mean exactly but there were certain exhibits and pieces that definitely made me feel different. Some that I just couldn't stop looking at and others that I am still thinking about. The American art section was definitely my favorite overall. Well that and the Shadow of Death painting was fascinating.
EmmaV
This is one of the best museums I have seen. The collection is huge. We spent at least four hours and we only chose the artists that we wanted to see. Definitely worth the visit and should be revisited again. We bought the tickets on line so we just zoomed in to enter.
Madison Anderson
A very cool place that has amazing historical art work. Very organized and effecient. The temperature inside was prime on a hot summer day in Chicago
Robin Heim
I'm not much of an art museum kind of person but I really loved this museum. So many different kinds of art to look at. We only had about 2 or 3 hrs to look. I would plan any future trips to the museum at least 5 hours to really take it all in.
Christopher Fiscus
Simply wonderful. World-class pieces, beautiful venue, diverse collection and a great gift shop. Don’t miss the Chagall windows or the Georges Seurat “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte”…
Robert Carnes
Hands down, one of the best art museums in the country. Possibly the largest collections of well-known works outside of Paris or London. The one downside is how truly massive this collection is; you could spend days walking around the museum. It's a beautiful building and full of a wide variety of stunning artwork. A must-visit for the city of Chicago.
Konstantinos Papadopoulos
A very well organised museum, with halls and corridors that create a special atmosphere in each section. I enjoyed walking around it as much as I enjoyed the exhibits.
Clint Plyler
One of the great art museums in the USA. Great location downtown. We loved the middle age Europe armor display. Amazing. You will see famous pieces of art in there that you have seen in magazines and other places in print, but there they are, you can see them for real. $25ish for a ticket. Oh, there is a chic fil a across the street if you get hungry and need a break while spending time in the museum.
Lily Neuer
Really fun museum with lots of art of every type and rotating exhibits. I reccomend the William Morris exhibit and the miniature doll houses. The William Morris exhibit showed really beautiful wallpapers, patterns, rugs, curtains and tapestries with the most elegant and beautiful designs. The doll houses, however strange, were really amazing and had beautiful detail. All of the eating areas were closed when I went along with some of the other areas.
Gustavo Marin
Cannot recommend this place enough. Deceptively large! Huge variety of art and styles of art, but the Impressionist art is amongst the best. Great place to take photos and get lost in for hours.
Caitlyn Liu
Monet is the best! Make sure you google the interesting paintings. And if you have time don't forget the 3rd floor.with Picasso.
Rose Heart
One of the best places to spend a Sunday afternoon, or even a Monday morning. You can be strategic in your visit and avoid the gaping crowds on popular pieces. I enjoyed visiting with the old and new works of art on display. Wonderful job as usual, curated by the staff of the Art institute.
Kaylee Kempka
Loved every minute we were here. Some of the COVID mandates have just ended so hopefully they’ll allow for the cafe to be open and a place to check your coats soon. I didn’t see anywhere to even get water or a snack but luckily you’re allowed to leave and reenter because after 3 hours we were hot and needed water and food. The selection they have here in incredible!
Dave Peterson
Have been going here for 30+ yrs and it never disappoints. Excellent collection, special exhibits are themed well, the new (to me) bridge was a welcome addition - tying the parkside into the main entrance.
Sevil AKTAS
I am tired but it was of the best museum I have ever visited. It’s a must see. Highly recommend…
Lillianna Huerta
Had a great time. There's a lot of culture and history here. There's so much beautiful and interesting artwork!
Berkay Kaplan
This place definitely lives up to its reputation. It has several different art pieces ranging from miniature houses to statues. Holds world-famous artwork as well.
Desiree Ma
I liked the miniature room most. Interesting fact, when Scotland yard was new and forensic science was young, people specialized in creating similar miniature copies of crime scenes to study and teach. The rooms in the museam are not crime scenes, but are pristine and the detail is amazing. The room in Paris over looking the Eiffel tower is truly convincing. Download the app for the institute, and bring earbuds, so you can listen to facts about pieces throughout the museam.
Nathan Eddy
One of the world’s great art museums in an elegant, comfortable and pristine museum setting. Always worth a visit.
Mimi
Everyone knows this is one of the best places to visit in Chi. The rotating exhibits are fantastic and the resident art is too. You need 4 hours to go through the whole thing!
Shanelle S
Acclaimed art museum and a must-do for tourists and locals alike. Came here with a friend on Friday after lunch and bought tickets at the box office insider. The coat room is currently closed due to covid. You are allowed to carry backpacks and have water bottles; I love that there are water bottle refilling stations by the bathrooms so you can stay hydrated. The cafe was closed when we went (Aug 2021). Entrance is $25 and there are discounts for Chicago residents/students/members. Credit cards are accepted.
The place is huge and I would suggest allowing at least two to three hours to explore all three levels. We were lucky to have caught the presidential portraits before they were gone. There are a number of famous pieces housed in the museum. There are both stairs and elevators for you to go around. Art aficionado or not, you’ll have a fun time.
KB Raif MD
Great art museum. Something for everyone : I personally love arms and armor and pre-Columbian art. The arms and armor use to have arms from around the world and some amazing japanese swords but now limited to European swords and armor, few guns. The impressionist gallery is amazing also. The museum has been renovated and displays have changed if you have not visited in the last few years
Donna Fernandes
I will forever get lost in the depths of the art exhibited and meandering exhibits that jostle you to move on without a thought of time or space. The institute has a hefty number of priceless art pieces, therefore a visit is a must when in Chicago
Yechan Moon (David)
There are tons of historic things at the museum, and especially the Monet’s paintings..I really loved it..
Miss Chicago!
Carl Fricke
One of the key museums in Chicago and even if you are not big into art I would recommend going at least once. During the summer or holiday periods I would suggest getting there early just before they open or later in the day about two hours before they close. The museum is well laid out, plenty of space and in a good number of rooms there are nice large benches to either sit and reflect on a particular painting, rest or people watch. You can look all you want but be careful on how close you put a hand towards a painting which if it gets close enough… about 8 inches or so, an alarm goes off.
Mustafa Husain
A very large collection including many famous paintings from Monet, Van Gogh and others. The newer wing of the building is also very nice, airy and calming.
A B
Beautiful place. Lovely exhibits
Can spend quite a few hours here immersing yourself in the art
Andre Kochetov
Some best paintings of Paul Cezanne made it here from France and all over the world. If you like "the father of us all" according to Picasso, try to make it here before it ends in September 2022.
Henry Tantaleán
One of the best art museums in USA. You can get a great picture of the global art in a few hours. Remarkable!!
Andrew Moore
So the “art = good” and indeed it does make one think. It really is from everywhere. And it’s big and bold, especially the stained windows. They have a good one hour recommendation to follow. If only it all wasn’t so higgledipiggledi. Guides could use a clearer map.
Veronica Sepulveda
This is a must see in Chicago.Fast check in when you purchase tickets online. The place was busy and full of people but everyone was courteous to each other. The staff was polite when the alarms sounded off when people were to close to any object - pay attention to the tape that is placed on the ground, that says "Do not cross the line" .
Chrissy Tsao
Some of the most extensive art collections! Spent a good 3 yrs here and could've spent longer if we hadn't spent all day walking the city already. Definitely recommend.
Tenny Kristiana
Spent $25 for general admission and you need to pay extra to get in to the exhibition. The museum is huge and after you left the museum you’ll feel like I had traveled the world.
Jon and Amanda Lewis
Incredible. Can’t miss. Stunning. The Thorne miniature rooms are fascinating. There are some famous pieces as well as many many lesser known masterpieces. One of our favorite exhibits was a temporary one of Bisa Butler’s quilt portraits. So amazing. There is a large impressionist collection. We would highly recommend this place!!
Monika Alberska
One of my favorite museums to visit in chicago. Although as an art lover I may be biased, but there is always an amazing feature exhibit and this recent last time with was one of my favorite artists barbara kruger as well as a great magazine publication exhibit in the lower level. Highly recommend for visitors to chicago and residents for a nice calm day excursion that will leave you wanting to shop for art for your home. The selections and collections are amazing. Another all time favorite of mine is the exhibit of small rooms throughout history. A must see. As well as the modern wing. I look forward to the day they can host events again as the museum at night parties were so much fun and amazing. ☺️😍
Marjorie Otto
There is so much to see here! We spent about 3 hours at the museum and probably saw half the art. Pricing seemed fair given the quality and quantity of the art. Ticket was good for re-admittance for the whole day. One of my top favorite things to visit in Chicago.
Joshua Calhoun
Despite there being a large amount of people at the time I visited, I didn't feel crowded except for the medieval exhibit, and that was just a little bit. But hey, it's a huge, immaculate collection of mostly arms and armor, including swords, crossbows, maces, polearms, and early firearms dating from the 10th to 18th centuries. Who doesn't want to see that? Even then, the entire institute is so large that the crowds are dispersed, so I could spend the most time hanging around in the areas I was interested in without feeling like I was intruding on other people's enjoyment of the exhibits.
Lucy Liu
It's got quite a collection. Not my fav since I feel like I've been to better and larger art museums. Very clean and has a little of everything atleast.
Nadia Márquez
This place is huge! I recommend getting there early if you are attempting to see it all in a day
The miniature rooms exhibition in the lower level is adorable!
Amanda
I loved this place. I only wish I had been able to spend more time there. It was filled with so many amazing pieces of art!
Travelling Trotty
An extensive art collection from various disciplines and places in the world, all in one location. The staff helped navigate the museum. When I enquired with the staff about Bisa Bulter, it was disappointing that it was not displayed when the website stated otherwise.
Angelia Serbinski
It's a surreal experience to see some of the most well-known pieces of artwork in person. The gift shop has some great art related swag, as well as some Chicago memorabilia for visitors.
Kat Pittman
My daughter had been reading 68 Rooms I anticipation of our trip to Chicago. She was pumped to see the Thorne tiny rooms and we were absolutely stunned. They are exquisite. Some tips on arrival: there is a line to check you bags and coat. We waited about 10-15 min each time through. You can buy tickets online or in person. Buying them online saves not having to wait in another line. They have visitor guides that recommend what to see in an hour. We spent 45 min just looking at the Thorne Rooms and then wandered through the Asian art and African art for the last hour. We got lost a few times and wish we had a week to explore all the areas. Fantastic museum that I will definitely return to!
Iva Walden
So much fun! Everytime I go it’s always a great experience. There’s always new things, but usually they have the classics up while you visit. See Paul Cézanne while you’re there too, it’s wonderfully put together!
Joshua De Serres
A must see while in Chicago. The pieces that the museum has is very impressive. Picasso, Dali, Chagal, pollok, Van Gogh, Warhol and the list goes on.
Parth Bhatt
A must visit if you are in Chicago. If you want to see each and everything it'll require at least 1 full day. CityPass is the best way to purchase tickets in advance. They have Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, Renoir and many more. Vast collection of modernists and impressionists paintings. Sculptures and ancient statues are beautiful as well. Precious collection from India. Do visit the Fulltron Hall to feel the vibes where Swami Vivekananda gave the historic speech.
They don't allow water bottles or food.
Jenna G
What an absolute blast--after visiting it's so clear why this is a Chicago staple! Such a varied collection you could spend days and still find more to explore.
Mikayla W
Huge museum with many different genres of famous art including Van Gogh, Grant Wood and so much more!
Adam Ehlers
Kids are 6 and 5 and we were sure to watch the videos on YouTube about the current exhibits. They ran around whisper-shouting "THERE IT IS!!" to Picassos and Warhols. They liked a lot of Roman and Native American stuff but they really went nuts in the modern wing.
Jennifer Wolfe
Absolutely gigantic place to see so many different art styles and artists. I would love for there to be other places to eat/ drink because by the end of it, I was so thirsty!
wayne terry
Amazing art museum. So many famous pieces. You could spend a couple hours or an entire day there.
Laura Vognar
This classic Chicago staple is a beautiful experience and my favorite museum in Chicago, maybe my favorite place in downtown overall. I learned so much from the Cézanne exhibit and am inspired to make my own art. All the sections and wings offer the opportunity to view famous and historic works of art. I have to say though, the contemporary and modern wing is my favorite, aligning very much with my particular style of art that interests me. I am a strong spiritual believer and the Eastern section displaying relics from all over the world makes me feel at peace and enlightened! Thank you Chicago for your beautiful museum and the immersive experience to appreciate artists and their art!
Angus M
Amazing museum with a lot of iconic artwork. Well constructed and well spaced area with a good distribution of works and rooms.
Rebecca Cala
Mia in Minneapolis is more beautiful than this one. The architecture was lacking in this building. The art was ok not the best I've seen also very crowded you had to stand with 20 people to see Van Gogh's self portrait although the had the most of his works.
Gonzalo Rosales
I see why this is consistently ranked one of the top museums in the world - I took some family that was visiting and we thought an hour would be enough to skim through everything and we were very wrong - we barely saw one section! Would definitely recommend the Roman Armor wing in the top floor
J Edward
One of my favorite places, anywhere. Absolutely beautiful pieces everywhere you look, I particularly like a Sunday on La Grand Jatte in gallery 240, and the Van Gogh self portrait in 241. And American gothic, and Dorian Gray. And the arms and armor. Yeah, everything is awesome in this place, DO NOT SKIP THE ART INSTITUTE! :)
Kevin Durnbaugh
Absolutely loved the Obama portraits exhibit, and the Bisa Butler exhibit was astonishing. I love this gem of Chicago's cultural scene, and always relish the opportunity to spend an afternoon here, lost in the vision of artists throughout history. I appreciate the modern wing and its collections so much, every room holds a new surprise. Would highly recommend anyone in the area to visit here, an experience not soon forgotten.
Laura Hall
I could spend every day here! The Art was beautiful, breathtaking, fantastic! Between the Rodin sculptures, Renior paintings, Manet, Monet, and all other Art genres, I was in heaven! one day wasn't enough!
Alicia W. (Mrs. Northern Belle)
Great experience! We visited Chicago for a quick overnight trip and included this on our itinerary and I am so glad we did! We purchased tickets in advance online and we were right at the doors when they opened at 11 AM and they quickly scanned them and we were able to get right in! I love the freedom that you’re able to roam the different exhibits and they include maps and the staff are all very helpful in case you get lost! Which is very easy to do because it is such a large place and a lot of different winding areas! Highly recommend bringing comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking! The gift shop was really nice and everything was super affordable in my opinion. @mrsnorthernbelle
Marjorie Lu
Highly, highly recommend! They do a great job laying out the museum. It's a pretty big museum so plan to stay for 3 hours or more if you want to make your way through all the sections without rushing. I always spend whole day here, there are so much to see and learn. It's amazing to come especially in snow or raining days! Great world class art collections. Impressive collection of arts from all over the world, including artworks from Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, etc. This is a fabulous museum and nice cafe to rest your feet. Also the staff there are very friendly and helpful. It's a must go if you visit in Chicago or even locals. Due to Covid the operation is difference even there is often a line but it goes through very quickly.
Rebecca M. Reese
There is far too much to see for one visit. We reviewed the list of artists and works to identify where to go for 'must sees' and wandered around in-between. There a good deal of walking and stairs but elevators are generally available if needed.
Valerie Rizzo
Just so much to see here! I would say you can easily spend 2.5 hours here. There are multiple floors. It’s easy to get lost but security staff are helpful. I really enjoyed Monet’s work!
Vittorio Bucchieri
Must allow more than 3 hours to comfortably visit scheduled and permanent exhibits. Amazing place
John Turner
You get the best of everything here from the art world. Must see if you love art from the masters and historical pieces.
Andrew G
Great art museum! You can devote a whole afternoon exploring the multiple exhibits and floors. Some really nice pieces from around the world, and some American classics as well.
Dave Harlan
This is a fabulous museum. I wish I’d spent more time there and could have stayed from open to close.
The only downside was the flow of foot traffic. There are arrows on the floor so one suspects there is an optimum path, but there aren’t many and they aren’t very good. I was routed into corners or shooed away from a one way doors by scowling docents.
Otherwise, this is one of the best art museums in the US and is a strong revival to the MET.
Dan Perkins
A premier art museum of the US, probably second only to the Met in my opinion. This is a must stop see in Chicago. This has been my fourth time at the museum and it felt as if I had seen everything through brand new eyes. The diversity of options for aesthetic taste is phenomenal. I loved their collection of American art from 1860-1950.
Paulies
Barbara Kruger exhibit hits home for women and minorities. Love her relevant display and frankness. Gotta take the elevator! It's a crack up! Loved the exhibit and I love AIC!
Paul P
Always a great time here. Unfortunately all the restaurants remain closed. Extensive collection of Impressionist art.
Ofir Bloch
Outstanding art collection and beautiful exhibitions. We enjoyed the Paul Cézanne collection which was mesmerizing
Sugar
Really incredible art and artifacts on display. I feel like you almost need a full day to explore each floor as we gave ourselves an hour and a half to look around and it wasn't nearly enough to see everything. It's a bigger place than it looks, just keeps going and going with seemingly endless rooms. Definitely give yourselves a large chunk of time, or maybe even split it into two days if you really want to dive deep into the art and the history behind it.
Teresa Armentrout
It flowed well, never too many people in one area. Getting to see the Cezanne exhibit was awe-inspiring.
Ally Bright
Beautiful experience at the museum! We loved the variety of the art, the kindness of the employees and how well everything is kept. It was an unreal experience and absolutely stunning to see such beautiful works of art! They have some impactful pieces and you could spend hours and hours there for only $25!
Dan
Phenomenal collections and one of the most economical art museums in the world. They only charged me (I'm a senior) and my teenage son a $7 entrance fee, showing their commitment to being accessible to everyone, regardless of age, class or economical resources (museums who are increasingly charging upwards of $70 should take note of this fact). Surprisingly they were open late on a Friday (9:00 pm, I think), when Google Maps mistakenly said they were going to close at 6:00 pm. I have fond memories of this museum when I was growing up in Chicago and they gave my sister a scholarship to study here during grammer school. Their influence on Chicago culture is immeasurable, teaching children to appreciate art is a lifetime gift and this wonderful institution should be highly commended for the phenomenal support they give to the Chicago community. The special exhibits that they give here are incredible and economical, especially considering the increased insurance costs associated with skyrocketing values of works of art. I remember coming here to see a wonderful Gauguin exhibition in the 90's which featured many of his most famous works including whole wooden carved doorways. I was just blown away and have never seen anything like it since. To this day, seeing wonderful works of art (and knowing the history of the artists who created them) brings tears to my eyes; something this great art institute has taught me. I have visited art museums all over the world and the Art Institute of Chicago is simply unparalleled in their accessibility, collections, special exhibits, and outreach to the local community. Thank you for the lifetime of joy you have given me!
BSJ Parker
Didn't expect the museum to be this worth, I was thrilled about the art pieces and all the antique artistic objects.
Rich Wahlgren
Art is amazing. Only 3 stars. No food or coffee. Had to leave early to make my kid happy.
Casey T
This should definitely be on your list of things to do if you’re visiting Chicago! The building is huge and you could easily spend a whole day here. Great variety of art, something for everyone to appreciate. The Obama Portraits are definitely worth the visit. You may have to wait in line depending on how busy it is. We arrived on a Friday and it was relatively busy but still walkable.
If you bring a backpack they require you to carry it in front (like a baby carrier) or at your side. The cafe is currently closed due to covid.
Sophie Wang
Absolutely perfect! The architecture of the museum itself is stunning and the cleanliness is very well maintained. In general, the crowds are even respectful of space and views of artwork. I love the collection though tickets can be a bit pricey; however, the sheer amount of collected pieces between oil, marble, etc is beautifully overwhelming. One of my favorite art museums in the US! If you’re looking to spend hours by yourself surrounded by art, or bringing a date to test your comparability, or whatever and whoever you wish to be with you for many hours of quiet and intimate space… I highly recommend that you visit (and revisit) the Art Institute. Once the cafe re-opens, it will be an even lovelier place to spend a whole day.
Morgan Austin
Absolutely amazing art and history! I couldn't stop nerding out over all the history and how old most of the pieces are throughout the museum! If you're in Chicago, you better stop in and check it out!
Ines Wu
Love the experience! The museum was easy to roam & appreciate the artwork.
Chulwon Lee
What a great collection they have! One of the best art museum I've ever visited. Their collection is very broad and diverse, and definitely worth the ticket price.
Yesenia Marin
I had a great time visiting! I suggest going through the side entrance when trying to enter. Its much faster then the main entrance.
Builderman
Absolutely one of the best museums I’ve ever been to you need to take at least three days if you’re going to visit and go through all the exhibits
Michael Yerkes
Beautiful! So much to see. Kind of confusing as you wander around...easy to lose your bearing. Plan on more than one day if you want to see it all enjoyably.
Jordan Bellinger
Absolutely the best museum over been to. They have an incredible collection of art. Even if you are not an art lover you will recognize many pieces. Huge building so being comfy shoes and plenty of time. While you’re here be sure to checkout millennium park.
Torres Liu
Came here for a visit while staying in Chicago for a couple days. Busy spot, crowded as usual. Good if you like arts
Elizabeth Hadden
Could spend days here! Huge museum with a lot to see in so many different genres of art.
jessica beltran wolfskill
A must in Chicago!
You need at least 3 hours.
-World famous art pieces
-Beautiful building
Our favorites:
-Art of Egypt
-Art of Europe
-Textiles of the world
Ryan Shields
The only museum I have been to that rivals the MET in NYC. If you get a chance definitely visit.
Nathan Noland
This was my first time at the Art Institute and I really, really loved it a lot. The collection is incredible. I finally saw the Seurat painting!! Sunday Afternoon! So cool. Much bigger than I anticipated. The basement floor has a wonderful photography collection and a surprise permanent exhibition of miniatures that kind of won the day in terms of stuff I had never seen before. Some crazy lady in the early 20th century had these models of rooms built by hand from the ground up and it’s astounding how much detail went into them. The collection of Monets and Renoirs is also incredible. This American wing has some of the most famous paintings in the collection - they have the Hopper Nighthawks!! AND American Gothic which is much more famous than the artist whom I can’t recall. It’s not an interesting painting per se but fun to see.

This museum is one of the best I've been to in the world. I travel extensively, and live 30 minutes from Manhattan. So when it comes to museums, I have been to a lot. I can say this was a very special museum. It is immaculate, and the pieces they have on display are just beautiful and different! I'm not a lingerer at museums. I tend to move quickly, but no joke, 5 hours went by without me looking at my watch once. Highly recommend visiting this GEM while in Chicago!!
Judy Haack
The Art Institute is one of my favorite museums. It has an outstanding house collection. Always identify your favorite piece of artwork of the day.
Jacqueline Wei
Lots to explore, with multiple levels and exhibits. They don’t allow big bags, but you can bring a plastic bag with some items in it.
Ryan Dorrill
World class. The Art Institute is a must see, especially if you’re already downtown to visit the Cloud Gate (AKA The Bean). It’s full of paintings, both famous and less famous, and will awe visitors with iconic images and artifacts from world history.
Please remember to be respectful and keep the flash off on your phone, as well as to not touch the sculptures or paintings - guards will warm you if you get too close.
Enjoy, and plan to come back if Art is your thing! There’s more than one can see in one or even two days.
Anna Defendiefer
Beautiful place. The miniature rooms gallery was itself worth the museum admission price, in my opinion. We only had 1.5 hours there so most of the time was spent in that exhibit — there aren’t many things that give me genuine awe but that was one of them. The detail is incredible and there are just so many. The Monet collection is also beautiful and impressive, and of course the Van Gogh is a must see. Definitely would go back to have more time to look through the rest of the museum.
kykynest YF
Wonderful museum to visit. The miniature collection was a lot of fun this time
Jacob White
One of the better art museum's in the US. Well organized within each section if very confusing as a whole (multiple buildings cobbled together so they don't connect terribly fluidly).
Art from every major section you expect. Tintoretto, Ruebens, el Greco, Money, Rembrandt, Rodin, Dali.
Also some great photography and an Egyptian section 2 floors below the Georgia O'Keefe (who studied here).
Ginny Levi
Wonderful, plan on making multiple trips. It is so big with so many great exhibits.
Martin Diez
Such an incredible museum, I'm always blown away by the quality of the exhibitions.
The annual pass is really a good deal to come as you want and visit the museum.
We did the Andy Warhol exhibition in Ocrober 2019. That was so nice with tons of paintings.
We visited Monet exhibit on March 2021. It was fantastic !
A Miruru
A must-visit if you love art and are in Chicago. Their collection is surprisingly big, comprised of many text-book artworks youve definitely seen reproduction of. Also, they have, I think, the best work from Edward Hopper.
Jasmine Gilder
Well… I’ve been to this museum about three times and have yet to cover everything. There are ALOT of tourists here everyday that it’s open so you really can’t hang around and really focus if you’re one who likes to actually enjoy and take in all aspects of a piece of art. I will say that a lot of the pieces were so beautiful and a nice reflection of nature and how everything is supposed to “flow”. Many of the pieces were speaking to me and smiling (we were definitely having a private conversation 🙂). Loved it. Hopefully I come back to enjoy the rest.
Madeleine England
World class art museum. Things not to miss: current exhibits, the miniature rooms, Picasso, armour displays, and the Chagall window.
Plan to spend many hours here.
a. vigil25
Absolutely amazing!!
By far my favorite part was the Impressionism. And it can be a bit confusing to move around, but it’s definitely worth it
Lauren Audetat
The Art Institute is my favorite museum in the world. Every wing has something to behold and the grand staircase is magical. I would go there just to see my favorite painting, "Night at the Moulin Rouge," by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. But, I could happily wander through there all day.
Maxis G
Good stuff many people to help, and stuff here is great. They are the most best art pieces to be able to view.
Samuel Fuller
Loved our visit, spent so much time in the armory, and my family was tugging me along to everything else, which is equally wonderful. This is a world-renowned museum for a good reason. Plus the location is awesome, easy to get to and a great place to spend an afternoon.
Shane Panchot
I really like the American Art wing. Things were laid out chronologically and I particularly enjoyed seeing the furniture on display.
The museum is overwhelmingly large and will require multiple visits to appreciate all of the exhibits.
Local and student discounts available. Tickets can be purchased online ahead of time.
Harold Peete
30 years ago was the last time I was I here, and it was nothing like I remembered. I was amazed at a lot of the busts and statues. There was an incredible bust that I would love to go back and sketch. The place is pretty big. I was very, very impressed and seriously considering a membership for that early access to get in there and sketch out that bust. I highly recommend the Art Institute of Chicago.
Joseph Lapinski (Lejaregg)
Amazing! No way in hell you can finish this museum in a day. It's massive! Great variety of art and mediums. They have an interactive app for map and audio. I would suggest bringing headphones or else you have to hold the phone to your ear (no way to put on speaker for obvious reasons). They even give suggestions on "need-to-see" exhibits that you can finish in under an hour to get the most of your time there.
Efthymios Philip Papageorgiou
Very nice! Not too crowded (even on Sunday when I went) and a unique selection. I only could spend just under an hour here, but 2+ hours would be more appropriate. I still managed to check out the most famous pieces and do a bit of wandering. But it is not too large that it is overwhelming.
Norah kh
My favorite museum in Chicago , I like the contemporary art section the most , be prepared to spent around 3 hours looking around this amazing place .
Emrick Ong
A not very big one. With good collections. The museum is beautiful.
Parris Carigo
Amazing exhibits. At least 3-4 hours of content, very interesting and well put together. Includes some very famous pieces, but the entire art collection is well curated.
If you dont like modern art maybe briskly walk through those sections.. they are exactly what you'd expect.
Tony Simotes
There is only One Art Institute of Chicago. A treasure for the world. I've seen museums from the Met to the Louvre and this museum is definitely world Class.
Darius Lahoutifard
Wow! I'm not a museum guy, but love some paintings. Went to see a few favorite paintings. Expected a short tour but I stayed a few hours. Seurat, Caillebotte, Monet, Van Gogh among other things.
Tesa Edwards
Too much to see in one day. The miniatures exhibit was INCREDIBLE.
Bing Tonks
Beautiful museum, & great photography classes at the School of the Art Institute that I took during the 1980's.
Lauren R
Highly, highly recommend! They do a great job laying out the museum and walking visitors through the progression of artistic style! Allotting 2 days for this museum is not unreasonable. I spent 2.5 hours on the second floor alone and could have lingered longer.
Dhruv 7
This was a great experience for us. Please don't worry if you're not an art expert or anything, this place has famous paintings by famous artists such as Picasso and Van Gogh. We saw the Rembrandt as well.
Best part - the Obama portraits, they are stunning.
Liz Hicks
Is this museum free - no - but it is definitely worth your time and the price of a ticket. Like all museums, they have great special exhibits and events.
A wonderful collection at this must-visit Chicago institution.
Great gift shop, outdoor area, classes, and staff!
Nicholas Lim
Absolutely worth visiting, even if you have a slight appreciation for art. This museum houses premier world art collections that you see in textbooks and is one of the reasons I wanted to take a trip to Chicago. I think I spent ~6 hours and still didn't see everything, judging by the pictures from other reviewers.
It's worth noting the that they are closed Tuesday and Wednesday, but have extended hours on Thursday (at least in the summer), and easily reachable by the bus or the "L" trains that go around the loop + Red line.
Angelica Robles
My second time going to the Art Institute, loved it just as I remembered. However I did go on a weekend this time and it was crowded & loud…so if you want more of an art museum experience, don’t go on a weekend.
The staff were kind and helpful and overall had a wonderful experience again.
The drinking fountains were all open (I know since covid a lot of public drinking fountains are closed), and masks required.
samantha harrison
Loved it. Give yourself a few hours here. There is so much to see and it is all presented beautifully.
Mike Evans
One of the best art museums in the country. Do it on your day off! And get the fast pass option.
Chris Smith
We came for the impressionists and I think there may be more here than there are at the Met in NY. Great place with a nice flow and conveniently located for people visiting the city and staying on or near the Magnificent Mile. We'll be back next time we're in town!
Adam Glen
Such a wonderful place. Plan your visit. It is easy to lose time in one particular section and then not have the time or energy for the rest. Wonderful renaissance paintings. Big modern art section, if you like that sort of thing (not my taste)
MT69
The museum never fails to surprise me. Came for the Obama portraits as well as the Bisa Butler exhibit. Also visited the old standbys like American Gothic and Nighthawks. Security staff is always helpful and friendly.
Briana “Bre” Williams
This place has so much to see but my time was very limited. One thing for sure, I was going to see the potraits of my favorite President ( we share birthdays so makes it even more special) and his First Lady! The exhibit was amazing and a must see. Aside from them, the amazing art I did scheme through, was a site to see. Make sure you go if you're ever in Chicago. I would suggest getting the City Pass because it's included in it along with 6 or 7 other places.
Tom Bell
Now THIS is a museum! It's huge, so don't expect to see everything. But whatever your tastes in art may be, I think you will find something that will wow you. Stand next to a masterpiece by an impressionist artist, or maybe an Egyptian mummy. How about a knight in shining armor? Or a Tiffany vase? The only limitation is how long your feet will endure. Well worth the entrance fee.
Ben Smith
This was an option on the Chicago CityPass
Oh look, a painting! Now I've seen some Picassos, O'Keefes and others, but also saw some junk that's just a pile of junk called art, and the stuff my son's 8th grade art teacher has all his kids do. But that's art, right, pretty subjective. Check it our if you want to recreate the Ferris Bueller's Day Off scenes
Nick Abbott
This place is huge. I feel like if I went there everyday for a month I'd see something new everyday. Really cool especially the medieval history. Highly recommend!??
Kelly Anonderson
Beautiful museum with tons to look at. Proof Jesus hung mad dong it's not surprise the 'tutes loved him.
Wes J
Beautiful museum, lot of construction but good signage to let you know what's up. Free tours are really good, though slow. Slow because they are really in depth, so if you are wanting to see the exhibits in a day, unless you spend the whole day there you won't be able to do that and a tour.
All food was closed, but it was a weekday.
Some exhibits labelling was inconsistent, some damaged labels on stand alone sculptures were next to the wall and hard to find, or across the room, stuff like that.
Purnima Singh
Outstanding, a very good museum, and well worth the admission fee. It was amazing to see all the original artwork, there are so many wonderful pieces art. This is such a cool place to visit! The miniature rooms in the lower level are the best part in my opinion! This is a great museum and holds famous paintings.✌️✌️👌😊😄 …
Kyle Goodman
One of the country's best art museums. The impressionist and post-impressionist collections were wonderful. I really like the American wing too. My daughter loved the tiny room exhibit.
Matthew Millington
The sign about one of the Satyr statuettes was misleading and was not really a Satyr. Felt that the AIC lost some integrity points.
Love the upper modern wing with all the surrealist
Good way to spend a day
Mrs Eddins
Beautiful museum, much better than when we were kids. But that place is so hot, it felt like we were walking around outdoors lol.
Andrew Piorkowski - Goodeids
Some of the most beautiful paintings that can be seen in person in the US. The collection here is comparable to the National Gallery in DC!
Jae White
Always enjoy coming to the AIC to see new installations and revisit permanent exhibits.
Samantha Dammer
There are truly a lot of hidden treasures in this amazing museum! I could not get to find everything that I wanted to on the second floor, but I will definitely return. Buy your ticket online to save time and then just show them your phone. FYI the restaurant is not yet opened.
BooBoss 2
The building and art itself is great, however there are lots of rules that simply make no sense. For example, you aren’t allowed to sit on the steps outside, even when you are at the very edge? I would understand why it would be bad to have people sitting in the middle of the steps, but sitting in the very corner of the stairway should be allowed. Also, after leaving the gift shop, apparently you’ve “exited the museum” and can’t go back inside without your tickets again?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a BEAUTIFUL museum and everyone should go, just be cautious of the rules.
Vincenzo Bonarelli
Great place to visit on a weekday and appreciate the beautiful artwork.
Gerónimo Gómez
You MUST go to this place if you're visiting Chicago. Amazing displays, sculptures and paintings. Don't miss on this one.
Zach
It's an all day event to be able to see the entire art institute, but it's worth it to do at least once. Tons of very cool and very old things to see. Sensors on some displays are too sensitive though, you lean in slightly to read a plaque and the sensor will start screaming, even though you aren't over the barrier.
PR Bush
The lions have returned to the entrance. The Cezanne exhibit is comprehensive and outstanding.
Brandon Hentze
A must-stop on the Chicago sightseeing list. The Institute is a glorious space with so much to see. While we were there, the Obama paintings were on display, and the virtual line feature was great to avoid long waits. We went in the afternoon, and there was no wait at all. The AI has some classic pieces of American art that are must see, but the modern section was a little more sparse. If you are coming from St. Louis and are a St. Louis Art Museum member, show your membership card for free entry! The two institutions have a reciprocal agreement.
Ian Harper
This place is a treasure. Saw the Cezanne exhibit (in particular) this trip.
Warning, it is busy on weekends, especially when there is a really good exhibit.
Heeju Hong
Amazing place! You can actually see famous pieces!!!
Madhur Jadala
On of the best Art museums you will see anywhere with world class art collections.
kim jim
The museum is like a maze if you haven't been there before. I wish they had better signage to get around easier. But overall there is SO MUCH to see!! Give yourself at least a few hours. The food courts aren't open yet, so eat before you go.
Sindhu Suta
It was a great experience visiting this museum.its probably one of the largest museums. It contains art works from all over the world, from various countries and various cultures. It has very fine collection of paintings as well. Although i felt one day was not enough if you really want to see everything here. They also have modern art and contemporary section. When i visited, there was no entry fee on Wednesday for illinois residents but they keep changing this from time to time.
Merissa
Beautiful museum. Their hours could be improved for a better experience.
Susan Coleman
Do not miss Bisa Butler. Her work is phenomenal. From color and pattern to execution, especially when you realize it’s not paint. This is artwork that gets better and reveals more and more the closer you get. View it with the playlist her husband curated and your experience will be complete.
While you are there explore the work of Joseph E Yoakum. A self taught artist who only worked for about 10 short years. A body of work that reflects a lifetime of experiences. His story is definitively American and personal.
Amando Komoda
Enough can't be said for the stunning collection kept here. It's genuinely world class, and you won't regret the crowds or the potential wait to get in. That being said, I do find it a little sad to see so many works of art under glass for protection. It's more a commentary on the public and their respect for art, and not necessarily t he art institute itself.
Krystle Pyrzynski
Always a beautiful time at the Art Institute of Chicago and one of my favorite ways to be “a tourist in my own city”. It is recommended that you purchase advance tickets online and simply show at the entrance for easy entry. They offer discounts for residents, students, children and seniors. Just a small note to visitors, the cafes are still closed, so bring your own water if you plan to stay long, just be sure it’s in a sealable container and that you do not bring in large bags or purses. I know I could spend a whole day in there!
Abdallah “Dooly” Ismail
Great American city shows what it’s got to offer. I suggest getting the city pass.
Bill Botkin
One of the very best museums in the world. Clean. Fast pass for exhibits is the ONLY way to go. We walked passed a line of hundreds.
Shannon Raynard
I wish I had an entire day to visit. The galleries are never ending catacombs of beauty. It is so awe-inspiring to stand in the presence of such pristine works. I loved the layout that also told a story of art through the ages.
Efi Rousi
Amazing collection of art of all different periods, overly impressed with this museum.
Gordon Darkness
Very beautiful, lots of people thought so I recommend coming in early in the morning.
Crystal D
Well curated and kept museum featuring some of the most recognizable art in the world. Make sure to grab a map on your way in. They asked if we were Illinois residents for the cheaper admission- we are not and so we said no but I don’t think they were checking IDs, seemed like the honor system. The Great Wave is not currently available for viewing which was a bummer.
Livie
World-class museum. A must visit. Worthy of monthly visit.
Affordable way to visit:
BoA museum on us. Spot Hero or Park Whiz to find the best pricing for parking nearby. Closest food - usually there are food trucks outside of north entrance.
Keep personal bags small - no backpacks; checkrooms are free.
Fiona Fairchild
Wow! Amazing. The Impressionists room & Hockney exhibition were awesome.
Elizabeth Baddour
Our family enjoyed a weekend away in Chicago, & visiting The Art Institute was something we were really looking forward to. The beautiful variety of art and representation of different cultures made the trip worthwhile. Thank you for a great experience.
Nia Valcourt
Such a cool art museum experience for only $25 at the time of writing this review. Has a number of art pieces from all over the world, not just Europe and North America. Be mindful of days that they're open and when they aren't.
George Lopez
Check out the European masters and impressionist rooms. Always love the armory.
Mari Stella
Amazing experience. Worth visiting learning for the history of art on different countries and modern art.
Cheryl Moran
Excellent temporary exhibits make this a great stop every month!
Maya Gold
World class art and design museum. Also absolutely massive--I live in DC and I think it's bigger than any two Smithsonians combined. Definitely commit to spending 3-5 hours here if you go!
Henry H
This is one of the many reasons I live in Chicago and the best museum in Chicago, my favorite among many art museums in the world. It exhibits most world famous artists (pre 2000) works and its valuable collections worth billions.
Its impressionism collections are superb, and Pablo Picasso in different periods also precious. Asian collections cover the history of humanity.
You probably need 2 days to see all the museum.
John Fogliano
A great way to spend a rainy day. So much to see and appreciate in the museum. You most likely won't see it all in a day. We left and then came back later in other to see some more of the exhibits. The armory section was really cool. Some really famous works here.
Glen Feulner
Monet, Van Gogh, Seraut.... Everything about the place is fantastic.
David Wright
My favourite gallery in the world. Some truly iconic works well laid out over a great space. You can do the greatest hits in an hour but well worth spending time exploring some of the other galleries.
Pat Steele
What an amazing museum. Our guide explained the various types of paintings, and how famous artists used those methods. The Art Institute is very diverse in content, and kept our group's interest for most of the day.
Jamaree Chongkasem
Cool art museum with lots of famous paintings. Really glad we stopped by.
Ankur Chaudhary
A great place to visit to see some of the interesting artifacts. This is the place where Swami Vivekananda delivered his speech in 1893. This place has a fee and ticket can be booked online or through phone at the venue itself.
Place is closer to train stations and from union station you can just walk to this place. There are many tourist destination, like Millennium Park, within walking distance from here.
Robert Abbott
Some of the most famous paintings in the world ... a must see!
Pablo Lupo
Really cool exhibit! Layout is a bit confusing sometimes, you might miss some parts of the museum. The gallery areas around the tainted glass wall are amazing. You can easily spend a whole day in.
anne
Lovely, well-kept museum with lots to see.
Christopher Takashima
I could spend hours and hours here. The diorama exhibit was a hidden treasure that I can’t wait to come back to.
Warren Shapiro
One of the greatest museums in the country. Superb impressionist section. Also exploration of Millennium park is a must including the fountain.
A wonderful way to spend part of the day.
Steve Wall
Fantastic experience -- saw a lot and was able to sit and consider familiar works from new vintages. Great Asian Art galleries. Was disappointed -- had looked forward to seeing the works by Laredo Taft, a Chicago native and well known member of the LGBTQ community -- but they are not on display at this time. 🤔😪 …
Kaye Abbey
The miniature rooms were awesome. Several floors of different types of art.
Rachel Duverge
If love art, go here! Excellent exhibits and gifts
Hong Wang
A great place to see the art world.
Scribe 69
Man, if you like art or Chicago or huge crowds, this is the place for you. There's stuff I've loved for years, apparently they've got some of it here. Pretty cool. Definitely plan to spend some time. And don't worry if you think you'll get tired, there's a Starbucks on every freakin' block.
Elyse Ching
This was one of my favorites activities! Huge musuem and excellent pieces.
Tris Bayliff
Simply a must see in Chicago. Far too much to see in one go so plan ahead and go for your must see things first. They're not obvious compared to the famous art works but the Thorn Miniature Rooms downstairs are worth some of your time.
Lisa Montgomery
Every staff member greeted you with a pleasant smile and was very acknowledgeable to every question asked. I used my link card to get in.
Robby Hoover
One of the best museums, let alone just art museums I have ever been to. The Arms and Armory exhibit is a must see, in my opinion, but that's kind of my thing. You can spend a couple days here and not see everything. A bit expensive, but worth the price.
Connivery Dives
World-class selection of art. The Monet selection is breathtaking. Every time I visit, I find myself in an entire floor of a wing I've never even visited. Highly recommend visiting Thursday evening if you can, to avoid weekend crowds.
Lisa Green Gloria
Lovely, as always. The ongoing improvements are very good. Loved the tickets where coatcheck used to be. Didn't enjoy Cezanne but loved the familiar galleries. I hope the coffee and restaurant will be more often open now that covid is no longer an emergency.
GERTRUDE Knitell
Amazing. Monet was beautiful. I want to go back during the week when less busy so I can spend more time. Since I use a walker it would be easier with less. Can't wait to go back.
George Johnson
A must visit. It was enormous so it will take some hours, even days to fully enjoy. There are many different eras to check out. Millineum Park sits directly behind the museum so you can enjoy that after
Ian Thorpe
We went on MLK day when entry was free. There were definitely a lot of people there taking advantage of the free day, but it definitely did not feel overcrowded. We enjoyed our time there and the kids particularly enjoyed the Arms and Armor wing as well as the miniatures display. The building itself is definitely a maze and can be hard to figure out where you are trying to go, even with the map.
Nicole Corzine
What a huge and beautiful museum!! I really could spend all day in there!
Katy Cunningham
Always a life changing experience. Feels like we are in that scene from Ferris Buellers day Off. You can feel the souls of the amazing artists on these walls. Worth every penny plus some. Inspires you to wanna create and live life to the fullest!
Chris S
The biggest problem with this beautiful building full of various quality pieces of art is the layout. It's hard to get around and find things, and there is no real flow that one might find at a well-planned museum. This is a building meant for meandering and muddling your way through, which due to popularity causes foot traffic jams and a high potential for lost children. (We were neither victim of or witness to this on our visit, thankfully.) Speaking of children, they really need to rope off more of their exhibits rather than use proximity alarms. Don't give the illusion of space. Give our children the reality of boundaries.
I do want to speak of one exhibit in particular that was present when we visited. There was an exhibit on African art and beauty. While I enjoyed seeing the pieces and even the video of performances and whatnot in African, I was left with questions about how things were obtained and what light we were presented everything. It wasn't made immediately clear if these pieces were on loan and obtained by fair means or if they were taken from their homeland. And the video put out there was clearly of a community who has far less than the patrons who were sitting there watching the video. We're taking from these communities, but are we giving back in any way? The video has us watching these people, including children, engage in performance and ritual without any explanation. Are we truly appreciating their culture, or are we gawking at "the other?" It felt exploitative. I know that it wasn't intentionally being exploitative, but there's much to be done to handle an exhibit like that with care -- and making it clear despite a heavy congestion of people that creates interference in taking in an exhibit.
Despite all that, given the immensity of the building and the usually high Chicago prices, I think $25 per adult ticket is actually a fair price. But I'm not so sure I need to go again anytime soon.
Gretchen
This is my happy place. This day, I went to see the new installation of The Hartwell Memorial Window by Tiffany which is awe inspiring. The different types of glass are explained and highlighted making the experience even more meaningful.
Paul Weimer
One of the best Art Museums in the world. Be warned that the layout is idiosyncratic and because it is a couple of buildings smushed together. And even if you stay the entire day you will not see it all. The museum is also much stronger on late 19tg to present day art than older forms.
Matt Bohach
Phenomenal place. I love art. I love good art museums. This is an amazing art museum. Do yourself a favor and go often, never just once. We all need more art in our lives.
Ron Long
Best art museum value in Chicago. Three floors of art exibits. From ancient to modern art they have it covered. The miniature "rooms" were incredible. I would have loved more time to spend there.
Jeroen De Koninck
They have some amazing pieces in this museum, potentially one of the biggest and best collections in the US. I was surprised by the amount of well known artists, definitely worth the visit and money. We strolled 5+ hours and didn't manage to see all, make sure to have at least a day to visit.
John W
My Dad's lifetime membership, bought for him as a child in 1948, was still in the system.
Nick Teal
A lot of beautiful art! It's a huge place, I recommend planning which art you want to prioritize, and/or give yourself several hours to saunter through each section. You have to check backpacks and large coats - went on a public holiday and had to wait for probably 20 minutes to do so.
Nancy Wadsworth
Love spending time here. So much to see! Quiets the mind and body.
M H
Sunday funday with my lovely sister. It was her first time there and we got some great pics for her Gram (she is Gen Z). Art viewing is a great form of escapism, indeed.
Kimberly Anne
Always a great place to visit. Almost impossible to fully observe everything in just one day. Real paintings from all of the greatest artists, sculptures and ancient art work!
Eric Salas
The Art Institute of Chicago is divided into 3 different levels. Each level is further divided into hall galleries. The lower level houses the Paperweight Collection, European Decorative Arts, Architecture and Design, Thorne Miniature Rooms, Photography.
As much as I enjoyed the ancient collections, I also admired the modern art, which includes nearly 1,000 works of art by artists from Europe and the Americas. There were Picasso’s Old Guitarist, Matisse’s Bathers by a River, Lachaise’s Woman (Elevation), Brancusi’s Golden Bird, O’Keeffe’s Black Cross, New Mexico, Orozco’s Zapata, Wood’s American Gothic, Magritte’s Time Transfixed, Hopper’s Nighthawks, and Ivan Albright’s Picture of Dorian Gray.
Sandra Gee
Brought my 4 year old daughter and we were both so amazed with the art exhibitions. The staff was soo helpful with guiding us we got so lost on how big the museum is. Will definitely come back soon!
H W
Way bigger than I thought. U kept finding more and more rooms when I thought I was getting closer to the exit. There's a lot to see and that's a good thing! Really nice and clean too. It was just a bit hard for me to find where I was going because of that; there was a lot to see.
Nelson Oliva
Really great museum, exhibits can be a little hard to find and a bit scattered but it is definitely worth the price of admission. A lot of great works to see and the location in the city is near everything and you can go to millenium park after the museum so its really worth the visit. Dont miss the Seurat / A Sunday afternoon... Cheers
Olga Gonzalez Latapi
I mean, there is a reason why it is so high ranked. The exhibits are interesting and the museum is never afraid to ask hard questions. If you are in town right now you must go to the African Art exhibit.
Renee Navarro
Such a beauty of a space. Give yourself lots of time to get through it all!
Mark Turnes
I would totally give it a 5 layout wasn't somewhat confusing. Found out on the way out I could've got a map, would have been helpful at the beginning of my visit.
I really can't complain though, I went out a free day and exploring was fun.
jarek matuszewski
Spent there 5 hrs today. I have not managed to see "everything". Immense collection of the various arts. Loved it, probably the best art museum I have been to.
Court V
The art institute is a MUST see in Chicago if you care about art and culture in the slightest. There’s many works that are interesting, important to todays world and overall just funky to look at. Would recommend a trip.
Jan Czarnecki
Great gallery. I really liked its architecture and the way artworks are exhibited with space and light.
I love Hockney but the temporary exhibition was SUCH a disappointment! These iPad works were really bad, sorry to say this. Come on.
Another critical point is that the entry price is much too high.
Belle Perez
It’s been too long since I visited the museum and I’m so pleased that I went back. All things COVID considered, I felt comfortable with the number of people they allowed inside and the distance between parties. I really loved the interactive aspect. They’ve included audio with some of their art pieces. You can download their app and learn insightful details behind certain art pieces. I can’t wait to go back!
David Myers Cantu
Everything was great, but none of the employees seemed to know where anything was. We asked 5 different people to help us find something specifically and each one told us a different location that was wrong. Luckily we found it ourselves. One was extremely inappropriate talking about their personal 18+ Twitter to art goers. If your expecting to spend a afternoon at the gallery eat before as all the cafes were closed even though it did not say that online. We had to cut the trip short as we all thought we would be able to grab a snack at one of the cafes while browsing but they were all closed and we all needed to eat. Unfortunately we didn’t get to se everything as they had no places for food or drink.

Amazing place. Great exhibitions.

Wonderful museum. I love their collection of renaissance era paintings, Indian and stained glass art collection. Spent a whole day there.

Even during the madness that is Black Friday and following weekend, you can dip into the Art Institute and find some peace. I don't really consider myself a big "art person" but the Institute has a way of drawing you in. I think most anyone can come here and find something to catch their interest.

Fantastic museum with famous works from ancient times till the 20th century. Allow at least 3 hours for your visit, though you probably could spend a whole day here.
Randa Meierhenry
So much to see!!!!!! We were there 3 hours and still didn't get through everything. Definitely the best art museum I have ever been to.
Hamish
Gotta recommend the Ancient Egypt exhibition
Michelly Calzadilla
Wonderful museum with a mix of classic, contemporary, American, European, and Asian art. The museum is busy, yet spacious and well curated. It was wonderful being able to see iconic pieces of art like American Gothic and Nighthawk without massive crowds elbowing to see and take selfies. The cafe inside is nice too. Make sure to stop here if you're visiting Chicago!
Marsha Russell
This is one of the world’s great art museums, with a collection of late-19th century European and early 20th century American works that are all stars in their own right. Their Asian, African, and Indigenous American collections are also outstanding.
Abhishek Singhania
This place will not disappoint you.
Some interesting exhibits:
Ancient Idols from India of many of our gods.
Thorne miniature rooms: a must see.
Van Gogh paintings that are not as well known.
Ancient Greek sculptures.
Abstract expressionist art such as Jackson Pollock
Modern art
Antique furniture from the colonial American period.
Fun fact: There is hall near the main entrance. This is the hall in which Swami Vivekanda gave his speech “Dear Sisters and Brothers of America”.
Samoundja Jean Michel
Great selection of art around the world. Be prepared to spend three to four hours if you want to see the whole exhibit collections from different culture/countries.
J. Luis Pinet
Best museum of all my trip. Decided to stay a couple of days just to explore it more on depth.
Everything is awesome!

Artic, or the Art Institute of Chicago, is one of the finest museums in the U.S. and the world. With collections and exhibit spanning across times and continents, one can be completely lost in the museum. Try the museum shop for quirky souvenirs!
Max Stanton
Hands down one of the best museums in the world, whether you're going for a particular show or going to see what they have in the permanent collection.
Not overly expensive and good to support anyways. There's a coffee shop that has beer and snacks too.
Definitely plan on a whole entire day here, there's too much to see in just a few hours. Some of the contemporary collections are especially fascinating.

I had a great day at AIC. I made a list of 20 pieces I wanted to see and had time to do it all, plus some wandering.
The piece I most wanted to see was Two Sisters (on the Terrace) by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. A reproduction had hung in my grandmother's living room all my life. It was wonderful to see the original. Especially since I believe a visit by her to the museum is what inspired her to get the reproduction.
I went on a Monday, and would highly recommend doing the same if possible. The crowd was very light and seeing pieces and navigating the museum could be done at a resonable pace with little to no interference.
If the AIC was Spinal Tap, their speaker would go to 15!

Enormous collection of Modern, contemporary, classical and renaissance period art.

The Art Institute of Chicago has a wide collection of art works (e.g., Japanese art, contemporary art, American art, Latin American art, European art), and it also offers really good space to just sit down and enjoy the tranquillity (e.g., members lounge and the dining area can have access to the fountain in B1, the outdoor space nearby the contemporary art area). The Impressionism part is definitely a must-see for the first-time visitor! Also, it provides some special exhibitions every now and then, which I find mostly very interesting!
Ashley Lott
Beautiful art. My kids were honestly bored. I usually have my baby on my back in a baby carrier and they made me switch her to the front, saying that it wasn't safe. Kind of odd, as I'm a babywearing educator, so I know how to safely use a baby carrier. But whatever. Crowded on a Friday, we'll probably try again on a Tuesday. They were super kind and accommodating to our homeschooler group though.
Yuma Squires
Awesome exhibits, a must for Chicago. Sadly a few of the exhibits were closed, notably the architecture one. I really wanted to see that, however still was an amazing experience.
Lu Xia
Absolutely a world class museum with some of the most recognisable works of art in modern history. Don't miss the miniatures gallery and the Monet exhibit. Download the Art Institute of Chicago app for free audio guides. The Essentials tour is perfect for first time visitors.
Raquel Jefferson
We went to see the new Andy Warhol exhibit. It was worth it. Many, many items from artist all over the price in the exhibit.
Besides the extra exhibit, this museum is huge and I feel like we only seen a very small part of it! I would have needed so much more time to see it all. The tiny rooms downstairs is a must see, every little tiny detail was neat. There were alot of kids down in that area tho. Other areas of the museum were much quieter, which I enjoyed much more.
We will definitely have to come back, many more times, to see everything else.
Dale Gardner
One of the world's best museums. For the art lover, this place almost overwhelms with all that begs long looks. For the more casual museum goer, plenty of interesting, even surprising, items are there to pique most anyone's fascination.
Roberto Belo-Rovella
Many great museums and galleries into one, must see!
Michael Nelsen
What can I say that hasn't already been said? Excellent collection of art and sculpture. I just wish they stayed open a little later because we didn't have enough time to see everything!
Marianne Peters
First time seeing a Cezanne exhibit and revisit some favirites.
Wendy Huang
There is so much to explore here! And they have lots of exhibits ranging from impressionism to more modern stuff all over the world. They have sculptures, rocks, homeware, and even armor. It was really cool getting to see chainmail. But I don't advise you to wear heels if you plan on looking at every exhibit/room. I spent 5-6 hours here and I don't think I went to every room. There was a long line to pay for the tickets, but I think it may have been due to the popularity of Andy Warhol. They also participate in Bank of America's Museums on Us program.
Donald L. Brown Jr.
This was an experience I will never forget.. The artists were from so many parts of the world. I can't say enough about this place. But there is not place to eat or drink. The only thing you do is bring a water bottle and it has to be in a zip lock bag. This is a very important detail for people who get thirsty when they do alot of walking.
Sarah Summerhill
Such great art! The curation and lighting was a little iffy in places but understandable as they’re often switching out shows. And who even cares when you’re standing in front of Van Gogh, Picasso, Rodin, some of the greatest art I’ve ever seen. Thankful for this experience—our trip would not have been complete without it.
Check out their free entry for WIC/EBT holders!
Alex
Fantastic museum with a very wide range of different exhibitions included with just the standard ticket price. Art works ranged from Monet to Warhol. Extremely impressive collection that is definitely world class. Would highly recommend for those with an interest in different art. The miniature exhibition in the basement was very cool as well.
Victor Wang
Amazing museum filled with some of the best art pieces in every category along every timeline throughout human history with extreme diversity in geographical locations and styles. This place contains an exhibit for you no matter what you're in to, I guarantee you won't be disappointed if you have an inkling of interest in art. Some of my favorites are the special exhibits like a gallery dedicated to paperweights throughout the years. Absolutely beautiful custom made paperweights arranged by time and artist plastered along the many panels in a small room. The other exhibit which I absolutely adore is the miniature rooms which are delicately constructed like a doll house but feel lifelike in nature with ornate carvings, art pieces, carpets, wood paneling. It's easy to spend 2-3 hours here if you're moving quickly and many more if you like to take the time to read all the descriptions and move at a leisurely place. Centrally located and easy to get to using public transportation from any avenue including the airport. For a layover of 4+ hours, I would consider coming here, be sure to familiarize yourself with the airport and train station layout.

Just having the opportunity to see famous paintings is awesome. How much ever we see them in pictures, seeing them in person was something else. Must visit when in Chicago!
Iam Riza
I was never a fan of museum until I set foot in this world class and really like a jaw dropped Art Institute of Chicago. As I walk around this huge compilation of world’s best art pieces of different kind, I smile that I said yes!
Entrance fee is beyond worth in experiencing this place. It seems like I was in different countries savouring while being amazed with their history, culture, arts and people behind all of this pieces. Every little details is at its finest! I think this is the best museum I ever visited. I never get tired of walking because I enjoyed every sections they offer! A top notch and a must visit in Chicago! I really appreciate all of what this humble place offers. The best! And high five for making me say “wow” all the time while inside. I will really go back here!
Also, please take note! Allot one day to experience and be mesmerized by this place. ❤️

The Art Institute is a beautiful and amazing place. I went to specifically see the Bisa Butler quilts. Thes pictures does not do her work justice. You have to see them for yourself. The details and choice of fabrics mkes them feel almost 3-D. The time remaining I visited other showcases of art.
Marco Carvalho
The curation here is good. It carries impressive selection of art from all around the world. Very spacious and well distributed. Check the calendar for special exhibits.
Kelly Hooper
Definitely lives up to its reputation. You could easily spend days here. (And the gift shop has a great selection, too, ha ha.)
Marty Crouch
Truly wonderful art! I spent over 4 hours walking through the galleries. The only reason I left was sore feet and hunger. This is a must when you visit Chicago
Esteban Rossi
Outstanding, a very good museum and well worth the admission fee. Make sure you visit the miniature display in the lower level, it's easy to miss. Also, the front entrance was quite busy, there was a long line to access; however, the side entrance was empty.
Javier Ayala
Beautiful museum, with vast set of collections and artworks from renowned artists around the world. Would 100% recommend visiting the temporary Monet exhibit.

BEST MUSEUM IN CHICAGO!
and one of the best museums in the world.
I love this museum, it is my favorite one in the city.
They have the largest collection of impressionist paintings outside of Paris. They even have one of Van Gogh’s bedroom (one of three he painted).
In terms of American art, they have the Mona Lisa - American Gothic.
The armory is also one of the best collections I have ever seen! Even compared to many museums in Europe.
The Art Institute also has many sculptures from all over the world. I love the ones from Rome. My favorite one is the bust of Marcus Aurelius (it is massive...). The people’s reaction is incredible, specially after watching the movie Gladiator. They also have a torso of an emperor that is impressive.
I am a member and I come here at least twice a month (sometimes more) - they always have new stuff to see or things to do.
The souvenir shop is great and not as expensive as one might think. The book store is also superb, one of the best in the city.
Coming to Chicago and not visiting the art museum is like going to Paris and not visiting the Louvre - a crime!
Edwin Yu
Excellent. Super clean and the staffs are beet pleasant. I’ve been to many museums all over the US and the world. This is the only museum where the staff is actually quite knowledgeable about the paintings in their sections and will actually point things out you would not otherwise see. The staff will also proactively interact with you. It is a very nice and personable experience.

The amount of enjoyment I️ received from the art institute was outstanding. It took me back in time, and overwhelmed me with emotion that I️ did not believe were there in the first place.
Each exhibit was thoughtfully placed, and only the most interesting object were included leaving little to no lag time in between showrooms. I️ loved every single second of it, and it only continued to be amazing as my 5 hour journey continued.
The Art Institute indeed what makes museums interesting, and constantly enthralling.
Thank you, for the wonderful experience.
Monica Dany
Have gone here with my husband and loved it! Great art and history! I'm no longer in Illinois due to my out of state move so I will be missing this place!
Subash Adigal
Bit priced, but with a visit for art lovers!
Gary Bucher
Great museum, came to see their Van Gogh's after the Detroit exhibit, among other things...
Unfortunately, all the museums cafes and restaurants are closed so we ended our visit early due to a lack of coffee and snacks.
Sara Timmis
Don't miss the "Monet and Chicago" exhibit currently on display! Timed entry and spacious galleries made viewing very comfortable. Interesting background as to how so many fabulous works of art came into the AIC's permanent collection, and Chicago's connection to this amazing artist. Beautiful layout and progression through the artist's body of work over his lifetime, with video experiences and visual narratives enhancing enjoyment of this installment. Especially enjoyed the series groups of paintings (haystacks, Westminster Bridge, lily pond).

I'm a little disappointed with my experience, and still trying to get warm. I renewed my membership and I purchased 2 tickets to the Andy Warhol exhibition. My friend from LA was visiting. We arrived at 5:45 for an evening viewing of the exhibition. Out of know where a bitter cold arrived with snow flurries. To say the least it was freezing, yet they would not let us in the foyer area to stay warm. There were approximately 30 people waiting in the frigid temps, as the staff ignored us until precisely 6pm. Its seems a little harsh to witness so many people freezing, when we all paid extra, and we had reservations to attend this event. These staffers already knew how many people were expected to attend. Otherwise the museum is beautiful, and the exhibit was well designed.
Lisa Hudson
Fabulous time touring Art Institute. Excellent exhibits including Bisa Butler and Monet! I hadn't been in over 20 years. It was long overdue. They are practicing COVID 19 guidelines also.
Brian Hartman
I have been in art museums all over the world and this is one of the best if not the best. They have a wonderful assortment of masters if not almost all of the main or ones. Plan a good 2-3 hours or more if you want to see it all. So many different kinds of art. This is a must see for a little culture.
They had a special set of four Rembrandt’s while we were there. I love the Monet’s, Rodin’s. We just did the older Masters and didn’t have time for the newer stuff.
Manideep Nemani
The place itself is amazing. If you are more interested in arts then you can spend whole day at this museum appreciating lot of arts and artists. I have taken the essentials tour in the free app provided by the museum. In my opinion, miniature rooms, paintings and modern wing are must. The paper weights room is worth a visit as well

This art museum is huge! Took us 3.5 hours and we still did not fully look at everything! They have many different art styles. Huge cafeteria space with a lot of seating. Eating in the courtyard is enjoyable because of the fountain and ducks.
David D
One of the great museums of the world. It can be exhausting to try to absorb it all in one visit, so if you can, try to come at least twice -- three or four visits would be best so you can really dwell on individual schools and eras. Very accessible, beautiful buildings, and even at its most crowded, you can still quite often get a great view of even the most famous pieces and linger over them a bit. Staff is very courteous and helpful.
H. Yas
There are so many wonderful pieces of art, I don't even know where to begin. I spent all day here and I got so overwhelmed with the amount of art here! It's a good thing, though. I urge everyone to visit and take your time. Learn as much as you can. It's a fascinating experience that you will remember forever. It's also great with kids, as well.
Nicole Wittkopp
Wow, what an exhibit- so much art to see. Paintings, oils, Greek stone sculptures, it’s crazy the diversity. Clean and well-run. Like $25 an adult and $19 for student. Restaurant and cafe area. Even when busy, you can’t really tell because it’s such a big place. Monet’s, Picasso’s and art from AD and 1st and 2nd century’s - quite amazing!
Jeff Hales
Fantastic museum with collections that include renown works of iconic artists. The collections are expansive and if you have time, try and break your visit over two days. It can be exhausting to try and see everything in one day. I went later in the day and it wasn't too crowded. Take a look at the museum map before visiting if you want to plan ahead.
Michael Copley
Something for everyone. Museum is way too big to see in one visit. Great spot to visit. Locals and students get discounts.
Ryan Parr
When I visited it was some years ago when they exhibited Magritte paintings. I was a bit surprised to find the Henry VIII artifacts, including his full body armor when young, along with the horse armor (he is known to have two other armor sets, one of which has only part of the helmet piece remaining) along with other amazing armor and weapons. The paintings were something of a surprise which I imply in a good way, as they seemed strangely modern despite being created over a century ago, and I uploaded some of them here. This is certainly a world class museum though I do feel as though they didn't utilize the space as well as they could, and I have enjoyed the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia which specializes in Roman artifacts more historical content, including Faberge and some of the best silver crafting (though the biggest silver object is probably one in the Dallas Art Museum.) I would return just to see some of the art pieces again (which certainly stand out.) My photography turned out a bit darker than I would have liked (I have since gotten a full-frame digital camera.)
Tyler Wallace
Had so much fun taking the 1 hour tour. Bring some headphones so you can download the museum app and listen to descriptions of the art for free!
Natally Cardoso (Naty)
I loved knowing all the galleries, I love arts.
Alan Jarvie
Great gallery. You can't beat the Impressionist area. Lots of originals from Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh. The Egyptian area is the only part that lets it down .
Kevin Foresman
The Art Institute of Chicago is one of the finest museums I have ever visited. The museum is laid out in huge, easy to follow sections of current exhibitions and all encompassing collections of Asian, African, South American, Contemporary, Modern, European and Photography. When I was able to see a Renoir or Warhol up close, I almost cried as emotions flooded over me. The art is exquisitely displayed and the audio guides are essential discovery tools for exploration. I could spend a week there and still not really see anything. We used a Citypass and efficiently moved through a very short line. The garden outside was beautiful as well. What an amazing gift for the world, this is what makes us a civilized nation. Bravo!
