Reviews of Historic Roscoe Village
Gary Haught
Nice historical town. Lots of shops, gardens, art galleries to explore. Take a trip on a canal boat or visit a museum. Several restaurants, candy shop, ice cream to enjoy. Allow 3 to 6 hours. About an hour south of Canton.
Scott Lentz
Wonderful little historic village. The only remaining intact village along the old Ohio & Erie Canal.
We just tripped across this on our way thru rural Ohio.
A great little detour with multiple old buildings that are set up as mini-museums. It's mostly self-guided. Just a couple of the buildings had any staff. Start at the visitor center and leave your car there, it's just a short walk. Along the street are multiple nice shops as well. We spent about 3 hours, but you could spend more.
Nearby are the remains of one of the locks in a nice park.
Cynthia P
Nicely done restored historic village. Staff is helpful and friendly. Price is reasonable. Several restored buildings include a working blacksmith. Recreated one room school house. Several stores and a couple of restaurants. Please note the restaurants get very busy at meal times. We actually couldn’t get seated.
vanessa norris
Cute shops with lots of different kinds of offerings. Historical demonstrations are offered but we did not partake. We just stopped to take a short walk and see everything. We stopped in the candy store and there were lots of fun choices for kids and adults including every flavor of soda ever. The flowers around town and at the garden are lovely as well.
Kimberly Rotter
Amazing time! Wow and wow! My daughter's favorite was by far the Hays activity center. We had so much fun doing all of the activities! We had lunch and Steak n Stein and the food was great and waitress was very considerate of our schedule even though the place was slammed and she was super busy. We visited all of the stops on the self-guided tour and we really enjoyed the narrators and the exhibits. We capped the day with the canal boat ride which was delightful and relaxing. I'm so glad we showed up early when everything opened because it gave us a chance to enjoy the whole day and we never got bored.
Joan Smith
What a delightful little village. Lots of history and great shops. Highly recommend this one!

This was my first time in Roscoe Village. I thoroughly enjoyed that historic place. I will definitely go back again!!
Arlene Murphy
Charming 19 th century town with shops and much history since it sits on part of the Erie Canal line. Horse drawn canal rides are available.
Delve into history as you visit the village blacksmith, print maker, broom maker and even a one room school house.
See homes of a doctor and a spin and weaver along with their artifacts.
Nice shops to visit as well as a grocery store and a restaurant. Plan to spend the entire day here!
sarah knapp
Love this place! So many neat shops and love the history of it. So many things to do and see. Plus you can ride a canal boat and it's a fun experience for all ages.

Coshocton was the birth place for the Specialty Advertising Industry, latex coated gloves, March of Dimes, Pope Gosser China and others. It is a small city nestled in the rolling hills of East Central Ohio where the Tuscarawas and Walhonding Rivers meet to form the Muskingum River.
Alexis Elizabeth Lynch
Still as amazing ad it was when I was here as a child. Great place for unique shopping and historical experiences for families and school groups alike. Great museum, and lots of opportunities to learn about historic Ohio. Its a great place to visit on a girl's trip or with your children.
Scott Jebbia
Great little area off of the highway has a lot of hidden restaurants and shops that my wife and I visited while here. The historic society runs a shop along the downtown area of Roscoe Village, that you can have leather products made on site.
Tracy

My group ranging in age from adult to 6 enjoyed learning Ohio history and how things were accomplished before modern times. The presenters and craftsman did an excellent job showing how printing presses work, broom making, black smith work, looming (making rugs), doctors worked and lived , and schools worked. I would highly recommend this place for a day stroll through history with time to relax.
Kim Martin
Great area to walk around and learn about the history. We went in early spring so not as busy. Great shops especially loved Good Boy Bakery as we had our dog with us!!
Marcia Ward
It was great!!! We did the Living History tour and our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the village. Food and souvenirs are reasonably priced. Lots of parking space. We only wish the main gift shop had stayed open a little later.
Uriah Yoder

Jeff Soldo
Interesting to learn the history. Buildings are air conditioned
Rob McCoy
Looks nice, quaint little tourist area with a park, historical buildings, and a museum. Unfortunately while we were there everything was closed because it was Monday.

Bob Kreager
A very beautiful place . Filled with very beautiful people . And soon Barefoot Jake McCoy and I will be back soon . And he will perform on This Magnificent piano once again .
John Bowers
The stores are free to enter. But if you want to do the walking tour it will cost $11 for adults not sure how much for children. But it is worth it. The village is beautiful and well mantained
jason sharrock
Always enjoy spending an afternoon here with my family. So lucky to have it in my own backyard. Lots of great local shops, from gifts clothes homemade dog treats bulk foods classic candies. Not to mention the museum and interactive educational history exhibits. Plus many other festivals through the year such as the Corvette festival and the Apple butter festival. If your local or even farther one out don't miss an opportunity to stop here.
Vella King
Some Village shops are closed on Monday but it was still worth the drive with the fall leaves and mid 70s temperature. Lot of pet-friendly establishments.
Larry Loewendick
The apple butter festival was going on.lots of crafts and good food. You could even go into the old village shops and also see the blacksmith shop.
Joseph Isom
Give yourself at least 4 hours to explore the main street. Maybe 6 if you are a history buff. Bring a decent amount of cash. Most places take credit, but it's not 100% as of this posting.
Sherri Wells
Very interesting and cute area. Some things were closed on Mondays and canal boat only runs on weekends.
Breah Briggs
Always love visiting here, have done it all my life and will continue to do so.
Dawn Bruner
Lots of cute shops and two bar and grill type places. Food was good at both.
Verda Bolin
Roscoe Village was easily walkable and very interesting! Lots of shops, crafts and history!
Barbara Trepal
Charming historic village that was on the Ohio and Erie Canal. A peak into early Ohio life. Shops and a couple of restaurants and some lovely gardens. Also a gift shop with items handcrafted in the village.
Char Lee
It was a nice day to visit the past. Two actual * folks* from the past were on duty the day we visited. The blacksmith, & a broommaker. It was great how the key fobs let you visit each place on your own , & you could stay as long you wished . The activities were great at the center , perfect for a break . If you have a fur baby ...visit Good Boy , cuz they welcomed there . Great place for whole family .
Catherine Jones
I love the Village. It's so beautiful and well kept. The shops have a variety of items for everyone and the Visitors Center has interesting information. We took family from Louisiana there and they loved it.
Jenna gravelle

Very nice tour. Be sure and get a pass, watch their video, and visit the Living History tour spots. I learned so much. The shops are great, with great people!
Heather
The only thing I didn't like was being woken up at 6:30 am because of a leaf blower. Otherwise, it's a nice place to visit.
J LeBlanc
Cute little area close to Amish County that’s open on Sundays. Neat shops and nice people
Roland Spradlin
Great relaxing vacation! Shops for anything you would ever want. I will return some time soon!

Wayne palmer
Just beautiful, our group always enjoys stopping when we're in the area.
Charlene Gillam
Very nice recreated canal village with nicely restored historical buildings and knowledgeable docents. Beautiful gardens.
Kevin Shelly
Very nicely done. You have a key fob to get into the historic displays and once inside, there is a big video screen-press the button and they tell you all about what you are looking at. Start at the visitor center with a film about canals in Ohio.
Shannon Batten
Love this place. So special to me. Magical

This was our 2nd visit to The Apple Stirring Festival, and it was just as good as the first!
Ray Fortune
The canals or an interesting part of a house rich history. Roscoe village is nicely restored and gives you a taste of what it may have been like in that era.
Anna Gibson
Love this place so peaceful and nice this last visit we found these on walking trails wouldn't been as bad if it wasn't for my children were with me and I was not happy i had to explain what these were and why they couldn't play with them.
Larry Taylor
Old restored buildings on a quiet street. Shops and a few restaurants. Not much for kids to do. Plenty of free parking.
Troy Foster
Grew up here. Played baseball for Roscoe for seven years.
Robbie Jorden
It's wonderful up there wish it was liked this everywhere
Barbara Beckmann
Took our granddaughter who didn't know how the horses could pull boats! Neat historical place with some interesting items. Loved the old piano that came by canal and the giant music box.
jeffery wargo
Wonderful historical village with a selection of specialty shops. Great place to spent a day shopping and exploring local history.
Diane Adkins
Oh such a quaint cute town with little shops and home made jams, preserves. Etc. Too bad the smallest jar (8 oz mini) had to get confiscated at airport. I thought liquids, but they take creams and even jam & food. Goodness shame on them.
Craig Laubenthal
Quiet, with beautiful flowers, interesting stores, historic district.
Reasha Zaliznock
Nice people very informative and plenty of wonderful things to do here! If you want a tour of Roscoe village head over to the visitor center. There are classes for kids to learn how settlers in Roscoe used to make things by hand.
Mary Ann Bowser
Got some cute shops here. Lots to see unfortunately it rained before we got done checking them all out. We are planning on another trip soon to check out the stores we missed Definitely a must see if you are close by and time to visit. Well worth your time.
David J
Lanning's is always a delight. No change this past week. Sea scallops, salmon, baked potatoes. Carrot cake for dessert. Dinners were excellent! Waiter and staff were gracious and prompt to requests. A beautiful evening.
Jessie Tubbs
The festivals are fun. The tours are interactive and educational. The Johnson Humerickhouse Museum was started so that Coshocton residents could view pieces of the world and now shares pieces our past with visitors.
hector
Great historic charming town. Check out the museum its filled with Native American artifacts. Dont miss the apple butter festival. Lots of great places to visit here. See what it was like back in the canal days
Carol Schwartz
Very nice place for a leisurely day trip!! Several shops to explore with an excellent variety of merchandise, fantastic ice cream counter (😁) which also has many food items available to purchase, adequate close parking, and pleasant, cozy, village atmosphere for leisurely walking and shopping. Warehouse restaurant a good place for lunch or dinner. AND particularly nice are the folks/store owners in the shops! Without a doubt, they are some of the nicest and most friendly people my husband and I have ever met!!! So down to earth, welcoming, friendly - you felt like you had known them for years! 😊 Definitely a place where everyone should visit!!
Michael Scarberry
Really neat historical town. The Apple Butter Festival is lots of fun
Katie P
An adorable little old-timey looking village with various little shops and very friendly staff at each one. Good food and some great things in the stores that you won't find other places.
Laura Kosol
This was a nice, quaint town. We enjoyed strolling the town and popping into the various shops and living history buildings. We particularly enjoyed the leather shop. The owner was fun and informative and showed us just how much an art his craft is. We will be back when the canal boats are operating.
Renee Gill
Lots of shops to check out. Had a great time. Would love to come back.
Sandy Dauby
Very nice and relaxing!

Went to the Apple Butter Festival & it was great! Food trucks, music, vendors and local shops. I highly recommend going next year if you've never been. I plan on going back.
T Dwayne W
Went there during the Stay Safe Ohio order and a majority of the places were closed. However it’s a cool historical village to walk through. My daughter got a kick out of seeing the window display of Disney’s Lady and the Tramp at the local pet store.
It’s about 1 hour drive from Columbus so its a definitely a good day trip from Central Ohio.
Definitely will return when the state is finally reopened.
Deb Chance
Lovely little historical village, with tours available through some of the historical buildings, and rides on a canal boat, so you can get a feeling of what life was like here in the early 1800's. Roscoe Village also has many quaint little shops (including a candy store with every kind of candy you can think of, and some you haven't!) and a truly marvelous museum. All the shop proprietors are friendly, and some of the shops set out water bowls for visiting pets. Also, don't forget to pick up a jar or two (or three or four) of apple butter!
Christiaan
Roscoe village has numerous little shops all along both sides of the road. There are shops that range from fulfilling your sweet tooth at a local candy store that has just about every kind of candy imaginable, antique shops for the most eclectic antique hunter, a bakery for dogs (who bake and make about the cutest dog birthday cakes I've ever seen), and even a couple clothing stores for women.
Ray Stuff
Roscoes Village is a sleepy little town during the day. Some buildings are empty, I assume due to 2020 but those who were able to stay have unique gifts. Several buildings are accessible only through purchasing a tour ticket. Be sure to visit the 3 locks across the street and maybe take a walk on the path.
Dawn Anglin
The gem of Coshocton County! Great shopping and dining.
Lawrence Branham
A throw back into time, but very enjoyable
Alicia Sheffield
Awesome shopping and site seeing! Really enjoyed Carl at the black smithing! Hoover was so kind and full of knowledge at the antique toys! Great experience today!
Joel Blady
Quaint, and a lovely trip back in time...in REAL time! Loved it!
Robert Earl
A trip back on time... Friendly variety of shops !
Alan Bell
I especially liked the canal boat ride, but they need more than one restaurant.
Heather Gibson
We arrived at 2:30, so there wasn't much time to see all of it, but from what we did see, we plan on returning. There are tours available to see inside historic buildings, beautifully maintained shops, restaurants, and gardens, and a canal boat tour nearby. How to the welcome center 1st to see all the options available.
brenda boyd
Great place. Good shopping. If you love history it is for you.
Chris Courtright
Charming old style village with interesting shops
Chad Ferguson
Very nice place visit. People are very nice threw village & every store
Michael Gulley
Absolutely love this place! It's been a long-time family tradition to go there at least once a year for the Apple Butter Stirrin' Festival. It's a great time for the whole family. Lots of fun stores, crafts, and foods. Highly recommended.
greg quick
Took our granddaughter she loved it. She did tin work and made candles. She enjoyed going through the old school house, doctors home and office, printing shop, and blacksmith. We all enjoyed lunch there .
Elysha Spector
My family comes here every year for their Annual Apple Butter Stirrin' Festival. I hear their Christmas displays are also spectacular. They have many small museums and educational exhibits too, so it's a good place for children. Their general stores have lots of great produce, cheeses, spices, and sweets. My husband and I stock up on the amazing homemade fudge, apple butter, pumpkin butter, candies, and the extremely reasonable spices and dried herbs. We also love the unique local companies that come from all over to sell items outside in the tents.
This is a great place to bring your family and friends, the old-world vibe that makes it all the better. Many people also bring their dogs (well behaved ones), which makes it feel even more welcoming.
Kathy Hurdley
My husband and I spent the weekend in Roscoe Village. We took the Living History Tour and we highly recommend the tour! The tour guide was so sweet and she had vast knowledge of how life was really like during the days the canal was being built. She answered every question and was just as sweet and pleasant as could be!
Stacia Loutzenheiser
Nice to walk around near historical buildings. Restaurants, shopping and a museum kept us occupied for a few hours. Did not take the living tour, but would have added more time to our day. Some attractions were closed on Mondays.
Angela Fulton
We go to the Apple Butter Festival every year and have never been disappointed. Always lots of great food choices and talented vendors.
Kaitlyn Thomas
A truly beautiful place. One of the best moments of my young life, with joyous memories that will last me a lifetime. The smell of the pine trees that line the streets. The sound of the bells in the doorways at the store. The sight of the historical buildings that make Roscoe Village a sanctuary for all that is good. Thank you, Roscoe Village.
Tina M Cummings
Very happening place, several unique shops, lots of history and The Warehouse has the best food and entertainment on the patio, band made the whole town come to life.
Heather Huff
All kinds of different shops and things to discover. The shop owners are lovely people. You can shop and eat all within walking distance.
Terry & Nichole Johnson
Stopped here with our exchange students representing 15 different countries on our way to Amish country for a little bit of history.
Kathy Richard
Awesome to tour. Enjoyed all the different time periods and exhibits. Great place to see
Ashley Turner
This is a fun day out. It is located right in the center of everything. They have a lot of historical information. They even show a 15 minute movie. After you are done here make sure to check out the village itself. A lot of cute little shops, and plenty of really good places to eat.
Rick Blessing
Roscoe Village has gone downhill drastically since the Montgomery Foundation sold off parts of the town. There are many shops that are closed that used to be there (canal level) and some of the ones still there are not very interesting. Sadly, what used to be the Old Warehouse Restaurant, is just not very good anymore. The other day as soon as they opened you could see the front doors with dirty windows and needing a coat of paint. Not inviting at all. We had lunch at "Uncorked" at noon. The food was great, the waitress very good, but we were the only ones there. At lunchtime! Amazingly, the Canal Days Festival that was a HUGE draw, is no longer in the town and I was told by a worker that it is barely alive if at all over in town. I remember when they were restoring this place when we moved there back in the fall of 1967. It used to be wonderful and we used to visit from out of state about every year. This may have been our last trip. There is little charm and little to see other than the old buildings. One shop even has a sign, "Open By Appointment". That's the way to keep people coming in!
Andrew Pohlod
Very historical and interesting to see. I remember going on a trip in the third grade; we waxed candles and saw a blacksmith and checked out his shop, went through a museum of the area, and overall got to experience what life was like back then. Definitely worth going
lynn Leach
It is an interesting place mostly inhabited by tourists. They have cute unique things to buy, but overpriced. In summer months you can take a tour and learn the history of the area.
JJ
Roscoe is a look into canal villages of the past. Enjoy a ride on the canal boat for a glimpse of the past. Take a tour of Roscoe for a historic lesson. Eat at the Warehouse restaurant for great food and enjoy excellent drinks downstairs at Lock 27. Canal days festival are the best time to visit Roscoe.
Ted Moore
Great day trip from Pittsburgh, Columbus, or anywhere in Northeast Ohio. Enjoy the unique stores and restaurants on Whitewoman Street, the main drag of the restored historic village. Then head over to the canal display, about a 20-minute walk on the other side of the parking lot. Finally, don't forget the Intriguing and well-presented museum in The Visitor Center. Huge parking lot behind the center will accommodate any size RV
Jason C
Neat little historic village with unique shops
darcy offinger
Been going there since grade school. Such a peaceful, historical place to go. This was our first yr going to the tree lighting. Loved it & will definitely go in the future. Maybe a new family tradition once we have grandchildren.
rick slayman
We were at the Visitors Center for a wedding. The gardens ate beautiful.
Susan Noll
8/30/2017 @ about 11am. The woman in the visitor center was very unfriendly when we asked about the video about the canal. She did not greet us or anything nor did she tell us when the video would start. I felt like we were bothering her. You might want to get some more friendly people working there.
Hubie Cushman
Beautiful little town with awesome food options and unique shopping. It also has a world class museum
David Miller
Pleasent place to visit and spend a few hours. The boat ride is a must for buckeyes and or history buffs. Do not and I can not stress this enough go to the warehouse.
Jim Huss
Great historic and educational site.
Vicky Dutton
We went to the annual Dulcimer festival.. everyone is so friendly and helpful.. we took classes and learned a lot. The village is wonderful.. different shops and great people.. nice restaurants and an old fashioned market.. we got tuna and chicken salad.. delicious!
Melissa Thomas
We had a wonderful day at Roscoe Village Apple Butter Festival. Lots of vendors, lots of things to choose from.
We also took the Canal Boat ride. It was very nice. We did mention to the gentleman who was the guide onboard that the one horse wss having difficulties with a hind leg. You could tell he was limping and favoring the leg. He also acknowledged that he noticed it. Hopefully, the animal will be tended to.
Cyndi Musgrave
First time visit, on bus trip with BFF.
So much fun! Didn't know about Roscoe
Village. Included a historic video about
the area & canals, a canal ride on horse drawn canal boat Cool! Lunch at a historic pub/restaurant. Tours in the village printers' shop, broom making demo, era doctor's office/home, & 1 room schoolhouse. Shopped the shops:
Leather shop, Market place, gift shop,
candy shop. Made fun memories.
Kandy Mullins
I love Roscoe Village!! Great place to shop and really like the lighting of the Christmas Tree - singing Christmas carols, warm apple cider - fresh roasted chestnuts - great atmosphere - good food at the restraints, just an awesome historical place to go!
Richard Greiner
Interesting place. Check out the visitors center film. Leather shop is fantastic. Doggy bakery is fun too!

Utilized the Lock Landing for an event. Excellent venue for business lunch. $112 for 4 1/2 hrs. for facility only. Tables and chairs were set up and removed for me.
Sherri Hatcher

Very interesting and historical. Don't miss the leather shop run by a true master of the trade. And stop in at the Warehouse- Steak 'N Stein restaurant. They serve the original recipe onion rings from the now closed but never forgotten Steak 'N Stein restaurant in Zanesville.
Richard Wolford
I love this place, but it's changed so much. The sweet shop is gone, there's a freaking dog supply shop, the large antique store is gone, it's just not the same to me. But still a beautiful place to visit.
Mike Yeary
Alot of quaint shops and an eatery or two. There is quite a bit of history in this area

For many years Roscoe Village was the halfway meeting place for an Alliance Ohio family and our Columbus Ohio family at Christmas. The tours, the wagon rides, the candle lighting programs, the gift opening and ice cream in the ice cream parlor over the years are imprinted on our memories. We cherish these memories. As our children have grown up we now meet for a catch up time and dinner. We have always enjoyed every part of Roscoe Village. The people are friendly, the food is good, the shops are fun, the history there is enriching and our family memories in that place are irreplaceable. Thank you Roscoe Village for enriching our lives!!!
Very Sincerely, Bob and Miriam Miller
