Reviews of Philadelphia Museum of Art
AMY MUNNS
This was a fantastic museum with ongoing great exhibitions. I loved 'Matisse in the 1930s' and 'Macho men' exhibitions so much. Its permanent collections are huge. I couldn't even see half of it even though I've went this museums 2 days in a row ad spent 6 hours each day.
I love impressionism so this place was like heaven. This museum also has great American Art collection which made me surprised.
There was huge collection of glass art so if you love glass art this place is must go.
Overall, this museum was one of the greatest museum in the US I've ever been to and I am planning to go back soon so I could see all of its collection.
Admission ticket is awesome because you could use 2 days in a row with paying only 1 ticket and you could go to Rodin museum for free as long as you shows the ticket from Philadelphia Museum of Art. What an awesome deal for visitors!

Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of my favorite attractive places to go with the family. I'd take the kids to check out some rooms there and the history, I like that they have a cafe area in the ground level area. You can eat and drink whatever you like there. You can take pictures there as you wish. Also, I wish they open until 7 pm because 5 is early to be closed. I don't think I've any cons to mention. I highly recommend for family trips.

I am not the type of person to really like Art Museums but this was pretty cool!
It had many different exhibits through the different eras. Kids are free and adults cost $25.
It was a pretty cool museum with cool exhibitions. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time for the special ones like Matisse. But, the permanent ones were still pretty cool. It had a lot of great American Art collection.
Friendly and accommodating staff. Definitely try to have a lot of time empty to explore the entire place.

Visited on Friday. There are some free parking spots behind park (Azalea Garden) of the museum. They could be somewhat limited on weekend. I would recommend visiting the museum on weekdays if time permits. Friendly and accommodating staff. There is a decent collection of art work and historical pieces of variety. Good for a two-plus-hour visit.

The museum is free of admission on Fridays after 5 pm till close. This is the best time to visit with the spectacular sunset view from the west room!!
The exhibitions incorporate their representing cultures into art which makes it unique. My family really enjoy this experience.
There are plenty of off-street parking spaces in addition to a few paid parking lots. More entertainment including big wheel, Merry-go-round, music, booths on the open lawn in front of the museum for family with children.

I visited this place during my visit to Philly. It was a Sunday, so the entry was free. They suggest to donate, which I absolutely recommend. This is one of the famous art museum cum galleries in the US. They have enormous collection of wonderful artworks and artefacts. We spent 4 hours and hardly could finish everything. They have separate sections of European art, American/ indigenous, Hispanic, Indian/ Asian, contemporary, etc. if you don’t have much time, select beforehand what you would like to see. On top of their regular display, they often have various limited exhibitions and show. The building itself is very famous for the film Rocky. However, if you are an art lover, this place is yours. You can spend several days if you have interest. It’s a must visit place if you are around.

The artwork was spectacular I looked at just about every piece of art The collection was huge I stayed there for about an hour just taking pictures and viewing artwork if you're into art I will most definitely recommend that you go there now while they have their exhibition up. My favorite section was the section that had the medieval weapons and armor I even posted many pictures of what they had my favorite was the great sword it was cool

Excellent museum in PA. It is an hour drive from NJ. Good collection of art. Though it is not as big as the Met. The ticket remains valid for 2 days (including the first day of your visit). However, one day may be sufficient. Friendly staff and good cafeteria. All in all a good excursion for the entire family.

My first visit. We only had a couple of hours. I'm more interested in history and I was not disappointed. Our first stop (my choice) was the American Art section. I loved it! What I loved even more was the guide that was so informative! I learned so much from her! I want to bring my granddaughter back. I hope she will be there when we return.

Huge museum with sooo many must see pieces!
Note- the entrance at the top of the "Rocky Steps" is closed. You have to use the North/East entrances.
The printed map they provide has indicators of specific works that are renowned, so on my quick visit I made a point to see those. A huge variety of art and artifacts (American, European, Asian, Modern, etc). Helpful and friendly staff, clean restrooms, overall very respectful visitors. Highly recommend visiting this museum.

After reading the thousands of reviews, we were excited to see all that the Philadelphia Museum of Art had to offer. We toured the Matisse exhibit. We found it crowded and not quite to our taste. Our favorite areas of the museum were the European Art 1500-1850 on the 3rd floor and the American Art 1650-1850 on the 1st floor. We enjoyed being able to see works of art from Monet, Matisse, Renoir, Peale, etc. Our least and most underwhelming part of the museum was the Modern and Contemporary Art section on the 1st floor. This section can totally be skipped without feeling like you have missed anything. The museum is obviously quite large, but we had a large breakfast before we entered and then after lunch time we visit “Stir” for some afternoon cocktails and gelato. Believe it or not, Stir (one of the museum restaurants) had quite reasonable prices and comfy chairs. It was the perfect break between exhibits. Our favorite cocktail was the rum drink, and our favorite sorbet was a mango blood orange mix (if I remember correctly). Definitely make plans to use Stir as a great halfway break in order to have the stamina to enjoy all that this museum has to offer!

Coming from an architectural background, this was an experienced of a lifetime. The scale, silence, store carvings and the art displays; everything was just perfect.
If you are an art lover or if you just wanna spend time this would be the place. PS It has fine dine services as well, incase you wanna take your date for a charming experience.
Go on Fridays and pay as you wish.
Experience: 5/5
Value for money: 5/5
Overall: 5.0

Wonderful museum, a must see in Philly!
Museum itself is huge we spent probably around 4 hours with breaks. They also have a great dinning area with large food and drinks selections.
Definitely take the map as again it is a rather large museum and enjoy!
Rosemary
This art museum had a large collection and body of work. We spent about 3 hours exploring the 3 floors. We had lunch in the Cafe and the food was good but the banana bread is a must! The staff was unobtrusive but helpful and friendly. They have moved the Rocky Statue to a lower level so you no longer need to walk the 72 steps to get to him. Admission was $25 per person and the discounted parking rate is $15. Removed one star because getting to the parking lot was not easy and they did not offer a GPS address which left us guessing and riding around until we happened to stumble upon it.
Julie
Amazing!! Start this wonderful experience by walking (or running) up the Rocky Steps and spend enough time to get inspired by world known art pieces. I visited on Friday evening with pay as you wish admission, which you can easily book online. It was quiet in the evening time. A must see in Philly!
Shreya Sinha Ray
I loved the European and Impressionist art! Pretty amazing how they have bits of Marie Antoinette's furniture here. Some of the modern art wasn't really for me but I liked that they featured newer artists too. Check out for college events, we were able to get in for free with a student id!
Caroline Matula
I loved how well kept and well spaced out everything was. It was very nice to be able to leisurely walk through the museum and not have to rush as all the art was very well spaced apart so it didn’t feel crowded at any point. I loved seeing the rooms that were almost “set dressed” because it felt so immersive and awe inspiring.

This is Philadelphia's largest museum, but overshadowed by the "Rocky steps" and nearby "Rocky statue". Although the architecture is insured by the large museums in Europe, it's not quite high brow and it's a very Philadelphia type of place - a nod to the blue collar culture.
There are some excellent pieces here and it's very family friendly. Admission is free the first Sunday if each month. They have limited reciprocity with other museums.
Opportunities: there are too many chairs all over the place that interfere with the vibe. The facilities also feels worn and in need of maintenance.
Please note that in my assessment I am grading on a full 5-star scale and do so with an implicit price-value curve. I am aware that many others on social media may grade on a 3-point (4 being an average score) or 2-point scale (4 being a poor score), but the fact remains that Google gives us a 5-point scale. To me, 4 stars is great, 3 stars is average and 5 stars should be rare - reserved for true excellence or near perfection.
Mel Noble
Fantastic displays of so many types of art from all over the world and many time periods. I particularly loved the recreations of rooms that were found all over the various exhibits. Definitely visit!
JOJO
Very cool, some super famous names and prices in there. Also some stuff I think is stupid but that's a given. Couldn't get as close as I wanted to sometimes, I actually paint so I wanted to see the finer details. Regardless it was informative and interesting.
Yeni ToroGo
I could stay for days and never get bored. My recommendation is that you plan several visits and in each of these, choose one of the galleries to dedicate more time to. Subscribe to receive notifications of all the activities carried out during the year. The first Sunday of the month is pay what you wish.
.
All the museums in Philadelphia are definitely excellent.
Natalie Jones
Amazing all day experience. The restaurant Stir downstairs is out of this world. Best quiche I've ever had and I've had many at some of the best places. The cucumber mint cocktail in the restaurant was also good. Handicap entrances are the North and West entrances. East entrance is frustrating, ramps on either side that lead to more stairs.
Monet
Best museum I have ever been to. Got the bus here. Went on a Friday evening which is ‘pay what do like‘. I was hesitant about paying $25 normal admission, but after seeing it today, it would have been entirely worth it. I’d go back again.
I didn’t realise how big their Claude Monet collection is.
They have a free bag/coat room which was UNBELIEVABLY helpful as I had been carrying a huge bag all day.
Kevin Johnson
Awesome experience. Worth the price of admission. You get two days to use it (which you'll need because it's so big). Loved the armor room. Staff are wicked friendly and very chill.
Christinabobsquarepants
Great place to check out, if your into art. They have different kinds of art pieces including armor, portraits, and statues. This place is very big and there is a lot to see here. Tickets were $25 each. I am told if your under 18 years of age, you can visit for free. It can become tiring to walk around. They do have benches located all throughout the facility. The bathrooms are clean and modern looking. They have a cafe and a souvenir store inside. The items in the souvenir shop are a bit pricy. There are some art pieces that expose nudity so if you have children and don’t want them to see that, be aware. Overall, this place is worth a visit if your in Philly.
John Webber
The view of this building as you look down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from Love Park invites you to walk toward it. The walk is about 35 minutes and so worth it. Very pleasant tree lined sidewalks lead the way, with lots of interesting parks, monuments and buildings to see along the way. The view back at downtown Philly from the top of the museum steps is spectacular. It is also super entertaining to watch people running up the stairs to the top to recreate the scene from Rocky for a photo op, 😂. The museum buildings themselves are works of art, with beautiful sculptures around the buildings. Lines are not too long to get in. Definitely check it out if you’re in town.
Christina La
Wow. We spent nearly 3 hours at this museum and maybe saw a third of it. The interiors of some European and American homes were beautiful. They have a bunch of Monet. It was fun finding the pieces of interest from the brochure and learning new things. The cafeteria is a little overpriced but has pretty good food. Highly recommend and would visit more than once.
Andrew Lloyd-Green
The museum has intricate and beautiful exhibits. There is a variety of art from different eras, countries, and styles. The building itself is gorgeous but the exhibits and the way they are presented really make the experience.
It is a little costly, but you can see why once you are inside. Expect to spend at least two hours there as we were there for an hour and a half and did not not get through everything.
Derek 303 Schick
This museum was amazing! There is so much to see, one day just is not enough time to get to see everything thoroughly. Also an added bonus is the Rocky statue outside of the museum!
Jeff Cockman
The Philadelphia Museum of Art far exceeded my expectations. The location and architecture itself makes it worth visiting. The impressionist art collection was very extensive. And I loved the way they transformed some of the rooms to make it feel more immersive.
DREAM VERSACE
It was okay, it didn't grab my Interest like before....there's a nice guy who explains things at the counter.....it's kind of free on Fridays...it's pay as you want. kids are free.. adults pay 25 dollars...if your really into art then go for it if not...just look up art pieces..WALK TOWARDS NORTH ENTRANCE...THE ENTRANCE WITH THE ROCKY STEPS ECT...IS CLOSED..NOT SURE WHEN IT WILL OPEN!
Nataliia Gusak
Visited Matisse Exhibition on Sunday. There are discussions about Matisse at the Philadelphia Museum of Art or Barnes Foundation. The exhibition was not very big. I adore impressions. Even if Matisse is not my favorite one, I would recommend visiting the exhibition. It was crowded on Sunday, with many people and busy parking.
E. Tavarez
This museum is very well maintained. The staff are all friendly. There are a lot of options in the food court so you can spend a full day here without needing to leave for a bite to eat. Kids get in free so it's a great spot for a day out with the family.
Elliot Gross
Awesome! Had a great experience here with a good friend and was not only impressed with the collection but also the other aspects such as the architecture and food court. Would totally love to come again and see the full works!
Kieran Fahey
The Jasper Johns exhibit showcases pieces spread across six decades. This abstract impressionist had a process of creating dozens of working proofs before arriving at a finalized piece. Many artists would discard working proofs but Johns archived over 1,700.
The old European rifles were also very fascinating and surprisingly ornate for the time periods they came from.
g Bernard Wandel
I love this museum and if you love art you probably will too
I dislike saying “there’s something for everyone” but truly you will find things that will knock your socks off(who knew Eakins’ medical series was something I just had to see in my life?)
The atmosphere is benevolent and considerate of I would guess everyone
The paintings are arrayed in such a manner that you can scrutinize detail that you can’t always do in other settings
The permanent collection alone has always been worth it for me however I have found the special exhibits compelling and left me with much to think about
Very helpful people work here and they really want you to have the best experience the management must treat their employees well
As a closer, everything that makes the museum wonderful is equally true of their cafe “Stir” excellent food, prepared artistically and served by people who are not bogged down and want you to enjoy yourself.
Perhaps sayIng “there’s something for everyone “ is more fitting as me and m friend don’t eat “normal “ food

If your visitor and you want to tour the entire museum in one day it might not be possible because once you get inside, there’s sooo much great paints to look at.
On Sunday’s, They let you pay whatever you want to pay and that goes towards charity… on week days is different and I think they close late too.
It’s a perfect place for a date catching up…Great view of the city and all sorts of events takes place.
It’s also a nice place for workouts running on the steps…..
At night is even better, the view is phenomenal and peaceful, it’s safe to be there cops patrols the area frequently
Felipe M
Great collection of renowned works of Art, consider becoming a member to save on admission and get 10% off in merchandise locations. Parking only $15 for 4 hours with museum validation, ask at admission.

I came here by bus on a Sunday afternoon in mid June 2022. The entrance is no longer on the East entrance (where the Rocky Steps are) but the West side of the building. I tried presenting the CityPass I purchased, assuming that the museum was on the list but they told me that it wasn't working on their system. The lady was nice enough to give me a complementary ticket into the museum anyway.
The one thing you have to do when you're there is go on the free guide-led tours. Their guides are required to go through a 2-year training program. After their first year of training they're allowed to provide a museum Hightlights tour, which was what I went on.
Each guide highlights a different element of the museum so it might be worth it to go multiple times since your ticket allows access for two consequtive days. Each ticket also gives you free entry into the Rodin Museum as well, which is down the street. I wish I also got the $5 audio guide right when I entered since the line got super long after I got in, but I was satisfied with the guide-led tour without the audio guide.

We visited on Friday 6\17\22 and had an amazing time, but the best part was in the arms and armor collection on the third floor where we met an employee named Darryl who gave my three kids a personal mini tour of the gallery, showing them items of interest, telling stories behind the pieces, and engaging them in fantastic ways to find details we wouldn't have known about. On top of that, he was very knowledgeable about the history of the pieces and a genuine pleasure to talk to. He really got us off to a good start at the museum that carried on even after we left his area. We tried to find a supervisor to let them know what a gem they had in Darryl, but didn't see any so I decided to leave it here. He was fantastic.
The museum itself is absolutely amazing. Nearly every room wow'ed and astounded with the extent of the display, especially on the third floor where entire rooms were transported and set up as they had been at their original location. It was truly amazing to step into a room and be transported to a temple, home, or other structure with just a few steps.
I cannot recommend this museum enough, and if you get the chance to talk to Darryl, do so!
Michael Busse
My recommendation is to go on one of the free tours! On a busy weekend, there were still only ~8 people in our hourlong tour and the guide was very knowledgeable and fun. She gave great context for why certain pieces were artistically and historically significant that I otherwise would not have caught onto. It really enriched our visit.
The highlights for me were the impressionists (several Monets), the arms and armor rooms, and the recreated rooms from around the world, including an ancient Chinese temple and a Japanese tea house. The last two I mentioned were so immersive compared to a typical art museum experience, and I love the curator’s respect for regional vernacular architecture as high art. There was a neat special exhibit of a contemporary artist when I visited as well, which was laid out in a way that really helped illustrate the artist’s evolution.
Small note but if you’re allergic to/scared of bees, take the stairs instead of the ramps :)

🧑🎨It was a beautiful museum to visit while you're having a business trip or travel. We purchase tickets for one student and one adult. They offered a student discount. We arrived there when it was about to close so they gave us an extended ticket that we could visit the next day. We couldn't visit since we had to leave but we had fun for less than an hour.
🤔 The entrance was on the opposite side of the building but we had a chance to walk around the museum. We have got to see the famous sunflower painting by Van Gogh and there was Picasso’s art as well. All the famous painting was there. It was a very nice collection they had and they displayed nice. 👍🏻
I highly recommend this place to visit because they have a nice park area that you can have a walk ☺️🍃

Went a few months ago during a pay-what-you-want Sunday so it was a little crowded but I expected it. Great place to go if you’re an art lover because there is so many different types. It’s a place you definitely have to plan to spend most of the day in.
Teresa May-Benson
Great museum experience. Recommend you go early, be there at 10:00 opening and avoid crowds. Lots to see so plan on multiple trips. First Sunday of the month is Pay What You Can. Parking is $15.

It shouldn't be surprising that the Philadelphia Museum of Art is a world-class museum but I don't think I expected to enjoy it quite as much as I did. I had started at the Rodin Museum, which is pay-as-you-like and whatever you pay there gets taken off your ticket here. Or, I think admission to the bigger art museum includes the Rodin, though I seem to have found it cheaper to go the other way.
I started at the bottom and worked my way up - the ground floor holds two huge colonnades and the biggest gift shop. The first floor has a coat check, two wings of galleries (contemporary and early American), two more gift shops and a large cafe.
As you go up, the galleries get smaller and smaller - the 2nd floor has stunning famous works from Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Rodin, Degas, Monet, plus halls of contemporary sculpture, plus the huge central stairway with the statue of Mercury.
Then the 4th floor- the top, they've transplanted whole buildings, rooms, courtyards, gateways - like walking around the world. There's a Thai temple, a Japanese Tea Garden, several rooms lifted from famous hotel, ship, or apartments, a huge stone church gate, and my favorite, an Italian courtyard with an ancient fountain with running water. It just takes your breath away.
It's almost hard to see it all there's so much, but it's definitely worth the effort. And all tickets are good for the following day if you want to break it up a little!
Holly Pope
We went on a Wednesday and it gave us plenty of space to be here with two toddlers. Due to the speed our son moves at, we finished the whole museum in record timing of about an hour 😂 the website said about 2 or 3 hours to see everything though. The staff were very sweet and helpful. We plan on coming back!
Also, bring your parking ticket inside to validate it. We paid almost $40 for the parking garage because we thought we needed to leave our ticket on the dashboard, but then we couldn't have it validated for the museum. With validation it's only like $14.
Mitchell Brookes
Great museum filled with various types of art and other artefacts. A goldmine! Would recommend, and would suggest allocating several hours if you intend to look at everything in detail.
Maisarah Mokhsein
We only went to see the Rocky steps but it was nice out and not many people even during weekends. There's a Rocky statue right to the bottom side of the steps that is also nice to take pics with.
Jenn E
As someone who LOVES going to museums... I'm always amazed to see something exceptionally grand. The building remnants and replicas within this massive museum are fantastic! So much to see. I wish I had more time to spend there, but we did a very structured 4-5 hours trying to see EVERYTHING. I'm sure we missed things, but hey something to come back for. If you like art, go! If you're new to museums, go! If you like buildings, go! If you like arms and armor, go! Literally there is something for everyone there. FYI the entrance is not at the top of the large staircase, it's on the opposite side and you have to walk around the building. Still out is worth it to walk to the top of the stairs for the exceptional view. Thanks for a wonderful Sunday at the museum.
Michael Bowtell
This is a big place, plenty of things to see, and some interesting displays, the Monet, Picasso and Cézanne were a real nice surprise - I didn't know they were there! Everything started to feel a bit 'samey' after we'd been there a few hours, and the kids were quite bored and ready for fresh air. There is a cafe (or two?) there, we ate at one - just sandwiches - and it was pretty bland and expensive, although there are more options such as build your own sandwich and pizza etc.
Ronnie L
Rich in history of the arts. Super friendly staff. The free group tours help. Huge place. Loved the armour exhibition!
Joel Bonilla-Blondet
A truly amazing experience. This is a museum that punches way above it's weight. I would've never thought that Philadelphia would have this to offer. Really strong archeological showings (particularly of China and Japan), amazing Impressionism collection and Duchamp. It was the highlight of our trip.
Celeste Peterson
Definitely give yourself 3-4 hours to truly soak it in if you're passing through, and don't skip the sculpture garden!
When I came here when I was younger, I thought this place was huge and had a lot of varied art. Now that I learned more about impressive collections and legendary artwork - I appreciate this museum so much more. This year, we became members!
Miles Waterbury
Very neat! Took a picture with Rocky, ran up the steps and measured Rocky’s shoe size (10 US men), and took in the artwork. Very amazing place, so much history.
Sam Fine
This beautiful museum has selections from multiple periods and locations, is easy to access through validated parking at a parking garage, and has discounts for students and seniors (18 and under are free). The Cafe is not outrageous in price, for a museum cafe.
Erum Zuberi
Definitely recommend to Philly tourists, lots of great art to see! I had a wonderful experience - it wasn't busy during the daytime on a weekday, we didn't have to wait at all to buy our tickets and were able to browse the exhibits as long as we wanted. The gift shops are also really fun to explore! There are also a couple eating options on-site for a quick bite.
edwin torres
I love the place and also the ground that it sits on for photos. When you come make sure you bring a camera shots of the cities are beautiful and also the Riverside is amazing. Great for a nice walk on a beautiful day
Judi Jordan
Great museum. Like a quick trip to Europe. Just too $$ and crowded to be enjoyable. Just went for the European Armor and art/architecture. I only stayed for 2 hrs.
Never going again on Dec 26th.
And l didn't even bother going to see the Matisse.
IMHO the museum guards are a bit too active pacing around.
Aren't they supposed to stay in the corners? And the restrooms are old and gross. Need a redo.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is an art museum originally chartered in 1876 for the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. The main museum building was completed in 1928 on Fairmount, a hill located at the northwest end of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at Eakins Oval. The museum administers collections containing over 240,000 objects including major holdings of European, American and Asian origin. The various classes of artwork include sculpture, paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, armor, and decorative arts.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art administers several annexes including the Rodin Museum, also located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and the Ruth and Raymond G. Perelman Building, which is located across the street just north of the main building. The Perelman Building, which opened in 2007, houses more than 150,000 prints, drawings and photographs, along with 30,000 costume and textile pieces, and over 1,000 modern and contemporary design objects including furniture, ceramics and glasswork. The museum also administers the historic colonial-era houses of Mount Pleasant and Cedar Grove, both located in Fairmount Park. The main museum building and its annexes are owned by the City of Philadelphia and administered by a registered nonprofit corporation.
Several special exhibitions are held in the museum every year, including touring exhibitions arranged with other museums in the United States and abroad. The museum had 437,348 visitors in 2021, making it the 65th most-visited art museum worldwide.
Noah Lepek
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is paramount within the nation's oldest capital. Not only is the architecture reminiscent of old Roman and Greek styles, it holds thousands of works of art. The staff is very welcoming and willing to answer any inquiries, and they dedicate their time to assisting new visitors. Whether one is interested in the neoclassical styles of American art or the ancient techniques of Egyptian scripture, it can all be found at this iconic museum.
Ann Krusec Lopez
The details they have put into how they stage the art with architecture makes your visit a true experience. Every area has such thought into how it is arranged that you can spend days there and not notice everything.
Five Boro Native
It's a museum and we love history and the arts so most of its work was already done.
We ran up the "Rocky Steps" just like in the movie and we took pictures with the Rocky statue (I believe it's the same one Sylvester Stallone hits with his motorcycle helmet in Rocky III)
From there we put in an uncountable number of steps checking out Medieval artwork, suits of armor and other centuries-old pieces.
It felt reminiscent of both The Met and The Cloisters in our native New York, but it had it's own flavor and we even got to check out the Neural swamp exhibit featuring Martise Syms and another exhibit featuring Matisse in the 1930s.
Stop in and learn a little something...!
Julia Gazizova
Amazing exhibition, I was moved with the scale of installations! Highly recommend to grab a audio or free guided tour. Bring a snack - it might take a while. Perfect entertainment for rainy or cold day. Enjoy 🥰
Jevrem Kboskovic
One of the best museums I've been to with great exhibits from pissaro and monet to Picasso and ancient China. They bring in new exhibits regularly and one can easily spend multiple days here.
jaitoon rasheed
Great weekend getaway for families where children can learn about cultures. Tickets are for 2 days. Why not start with the children on Saturday and the adults enjoy Sunday.
John Mullen
This is a beautiful and well-curated old style art museum. A fine collection of Impressionists, a decent few Van Goghs and a nice bit of Paul Klee. The cultural appropriation is strong throughout, especially on the top floor. If I wanted to see an Indian temple I would go to India or look on the Internet. Leave Indian temples in situ. And European churches. There is relatively little American culture in this collection. But the big Cy Twomblys were interesting. The food was good and the staff reasonably friendly and helpful. I'd go again.
Ruth Briggs
I love the Philadelphia Museum of Art! When I had four young children, I would take them to PMA on Sundays because admission was free. For over thirty years now, I have enjoyed numerous visits with my kids. The tradition continues with my four grandchildren.
Amol Dwivedi
Amazing museum! They have got art work from all around the world! A lot of love and dedication has been put in making this place, must visit! Also, it has the famous rocky steps and a great view of beautiful city of Philadelphia
Joshua Aarnes
Didn’t go inside but the nod to Rocky outside was really cool and it’s an iconic spot if you enjoyed the movie. Guess it’s kind of cool that they recognized it as an art form of its own!
Ivan P.
Great museum covered almost all arts and times. From mid evil to contemporary. Recommend to come at the opening time to avoid crowds. Don’t forget to validate your parking ticket. Enjoy 😉

Definitely take advantage of the pay what you wish during the first Sunday of the month.
The place is huge, almost impossible to see everything your first time. Worth going back to.
Kevin Minggia-Baker
Can't Say Enough about this Beautiful Philadelphia Icon, a Treasure Trove of Art, History, Culture, and Style. Its Always a warm and fuzzy place to visit that almost Anyone can enjoy!!! This Place Breathes Philly, and I'm here for It!!!
Jenny Boroda
We enjoyed visiting. There is a nice collection of European and modern art. It’s our first visit since covid. The main entrance where the steps are was closed, we had to use the west entrance. The tickets are valid for two days and include admission to the Rodin museum.
Carlos Deyne
Just have to go to get the experience of all our history and enjoy the amazing artifacts and art displayed. My family and i enjoyed the environment and knowledge we absorbed while there.
Sadie B
Lovely, quiet way to spend a few hours exploring... Fabulous art, a few places to grab coffee or a light snack, along with several gift shops.
Brendan Maier
The American galleries have been redone and reopened. Very nice to visit with families, my young children enjoyed. You can ask for the scavenger hunt that my children also enjoyed.

We had a wonderful visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art! Of course we had to run up the Rocky steps, and check out the Rocky statue! The view of the city from the steps is breathtaking! Upon entering the building, we saw the amazing architecture, it's beautiful inside! This is by far the largest art museum we have seen! The art collection is amazing! Monet is my personal favorite artist and this museum has more of his works of art then I have seen before! It's an extraordinary place to visit! Highly recommend!
Roger Yates
Beautiful facility with friendly staff and several brilliant collections. The Renaissance art alone is worth the price of admission. I could have spent an entire day just at this museum but my schedule didn't allow it. I loved it and can't recommend highly enough.
Yingfan Zhang
Wonderful museum where I spent 6 hours. A lot of European arts on 2nd floor and recently there’s an exhibition of John Jasper. If you love Impressionism, definitely don’t miss this place.
Chris Lindsey Real Estate
Great fun. Beautiful building. It is way bigger than I had thought. Will have to go back to finish seeing the rest. Oh and good food too.
B ES
I love the new renovations. I’m impressed with how they open up the space in the ground floor of the museum yet look like they were always there.
Kids under 18 are always free! So it’s a no-brained for h.s.-ers to go. Also note that if you purchase a membership your entrance fee is free, parking in the lot works out to $10 for up to 5 hours and you save 20% in the café, and book store and gift shop; that’s a better deal than Amazon Prime! ;-)
Sneha Singh
We visited the place at night. Climbed through the stairs and saw the rocky foot steps. The evening lights are awesome to lol at the building. The museum is huge from inside and you will need more than a day to cover everything.
Julio C. Avila
Very historic large museum. It was nice to see this in person, and especially the Rocky Statue at the bottom, off to the side of the famous stairs.
Vicki Johnson
Excellent museum with wide range of exhibitions. I focused on the European masters galleries which are beautifully displayed. I also enjoyed the American artists' collections. Lunch at the Museum bistro was a bonus!
Janis Mahnure
This is the best place in Philly. The only place I loved being in when I lived here. I have been there on frigid cold days and hot summer nights. Its nice going inside on free days. But in general it is fun to just walk around. Ponder on the steps. View the dam or city-lights. Or just sit by the fountain or green grass.
Luis Velazquez
It was an amazing experience didn't get to explore the whole museum plan on returning real soon to explore the rest but for the 3 hr duration I was there it was spectacular parking was cheap and secure
Cam Apel
Fantastic famous art museum, I’ve been to it a lot and it never fails to leave me impressed and touch me emotionally every time on some level. Check out their renaissance art exhibit they bring in entire structures entirely preserved from the 1200-1500’s and place the art in the rooms. Super unique!
Rolf Shmidt
Great museum, one of the must-see museums of the East Coast. Of course, there are always people doing the Rocky thing on the stairs leading to it, I guess it's kind of obligatory for tourists....
I really liked Temple Hall and the suits of armor. The paintings which struck me the most were Liverpool by Crimshaw, such wonderful use of chiaroscuro. I also liked St John the Baptist rebuking Herod by Mattia Preti. He was able to instill such ruthlessness into Herodias' face while at the same time Herod looks so utterly bored and unconcerned, you can just tell it won't end well....Judith Leyster's The Last Drop painting is also quite striking. Lastly, the Toulouse Lautrec painting of La Goulue and Valentin le désossé is a nice touch.
Keith Watkins
Great place to visit. Wish I had more then a day. The third floor is loaded with cool architecture.
MurdoK “Kit The Red Rabbit” X
Definitely a whole day’s worth of collection and one of the top 5 in the country. I wished they have rope boundaries on their priced collection like The Sunflower by Van Gogh , people were getting real closed to it for a selfie!
shane hoffman
Great experience and I honestly loved how the paintings and creations are separated by country because I can explore what other countries had created. The rocky steps, obviously a workout but so worth it.
Josephine Holland
We didn't go inside the museum but we really enjoyed all the statues, the scenery was beautiful.
Md Nafiul Alam Nipu
The view from here is astonishing. A must visit in Philly. I liked the surrounding area when roaming around. Had Europe vibe.
Julie HaasScully
Very cool space. Visited with my son who has recently moved to Philly and we agreed you could go back again and again. We got there toward the end of a long day but thoroughly enjoyed what we were able to see before closing. Views at dusk we're lovely and we found the Rocky statue as we left. Great day!
Visited again June 2022. Revisited some from the time before and discovered new things. Sean Scully exhibit was fun (we are Scullys, too!).
Beautiful day to walk the grounds and find a nice spot for lunch. Pizza at Vetri was delicious. Not the best service I've ever experienced, but good beers on tap and the pizza was really good.
Dulcie Flaharty
A truly magical visit for young and old. The scale of the spaces provides lots of room for comfortable distancing. The PMA collection has a plethora of objects to stimulate and excite our grandchildren on their first visit. They already want to return to have more "looks" and to climb the wonderful and plentiful steps again.
James Wells
I did not enter the museum, as I had a limited amount of time to spend here. However, it is still worth going to see the statues and fountains around the outside of the building. The Rocky statue is no to the right (as you face the steps) of the museum and it is a part of modern American history.
There are also fountains and statues of important American figures around the building that are nice to see.
Nora Kyrkjebo
This is the best art museum! It was so cool how they incorporated the art into the architectural design of the building. Favourite part was definitely the third floor. $25 for adult ticket, less for students. Highly recommend!!
Adriana Sanchez
Just being around this place is amazing. You can take nice pictures of Center city, visit the Rocky statue, walk around or going up and down the steps.
Rachel Fournier
We took advantage of the Museums on Us program. This program allows you to visit museums nationwide for free on the first weekend of each month.
We had a great time at the Philadelphia Art museum. I would recommend the Armer Room, the Tea Garden, and a stroll afterwards on the garden path. The set up makes it easy to maneuver and see everything. Don't forget to stop in the cafe, the food and service there was worth it.
If you are an art lover or just want an interesting way to spend a day this is for you.
Jennifer Ng'andu
The Philadelphia Museum is a beautiful museum, inside and out. It greets you with stunning architecture in every hall and passage way. It was built for the ages. Of course, most people run up the famous stairs and take a picture of Rocky. Be prepared to stand in line for the latter (we decided to pass on Rocky), but did spend some time taking in the vistas of the city. A general admission ticket is $25 for adults and it gets you two days of entry, including admission to the Rodin museum that is down the road. They also have "pay what you can" admission on the first Sunday of the month. Once you master the map, an array of treasures await you. The museum has a guide to most of its highlights. Some of my favorites were the middle ages where the doors and frescos are built in to the rooms making each room a new experience. Following that is extremely beautiful East Asian art including the striking blue paints of the east and middle east in Persia (now Iran) and as part of the Ming dynasty. Because their art is generally a set of collections from wealthy contributors, they tend to have one or two pieces of renowned artists, though boast one of the biggest collections of Cezanne, where featuring quite a collection of Thomas Eakin. There are also uniquities, like having one of the only Van Gogh sunflowers in the U.S.. You can ask the staff whether something is on display or look it up before you go. The building of museum by collectors also means that there has been little investment in African and Black art, or even Black people as subjects of art, which is quite honestly, why I deducted a star. Given the presence of artistry that is likely to be embedded in local Philly artistry, there's no reason why this isn't more of a part of the museums history and American art collection. There were a couple of exhibits on view regarding protest and another on art and the process of grieving. They were strong. We also decided to take a docent tour of the impressionists. We learned a lot and I'd highly recommend those public tours. They also offer private tours for sale and the front-facing staff tends to cater to those patrons, more than help you find a public tour.
Mike McGilvray
The Matisse exhibit, a nice lunch and American late 19th century painting, glass and furniture. A pleasant afternoon with my love.
Natalie Valeriano
The OVAL is my new favorite spot in the city, absolutely beautiful. Make sure to ride the tallest traveling ferris wheel while you're there, the views are incredible 👏 …
Lee West
Large museum with so many good works in it. Took a few hours to get through. I only wish that they had a section on African art though
John Rollins
We visited the Matisse in the 1930s exhibit. It was very well mounted, as are all the Museum of Art exhibitions. Despite the holiday crowds, we had plenty of time to see and enjoy and learn about the man and his works.
Lisa A Maggiolini (Dr DoLittle)
Love the Art Museum.. Even the Outside is Gorgeous & Peaceful.. I love going there at night in the back by the Rose Garden and Waterfalls...
They always have free days also & reduced admissions for Snap, Veterans & Seniors.. a Gem in the City
Abhishek Bhat
Worth visiting this art museum once. The paintings go back to 1800's and are all masterpieces. They have a good cafetaria as well inside for those hungry people like me!!
C Akonful
Great place to see Made in America Labor Day concert and just see the city of Philly go up the Rocky stairs and see the statue
Cat Lady
This is a must see if you are in the Philadelphia area. I am local and have been here many times over the years and I still return. They gave excellent permanent exhibits and special exhibits. The special exhibit area right now features Jasper John.
The cafe has a large selection of soups, sandwiches, pizza, and salads. I got a burger and fries which was good. I also got soup which was not very warm. My husband got a chicken salad sandwich which was chock full of chicken salad.
Later in the day we stopped at the Balcony Cafe for a cup of coffee and a snack and it was a bit disappointing. First, they did not have any pastries to go with the coffee. Secondly, my latte was super bitter.
The last item I would like to include is their accessibility for those who need it. I have limited mobility and use a walker. They have a drop off area at the West entrance for those with special needs. Also, if you look at their website they do a great job of addressing various needs. They have wheelchairs and canes that you can borrow.
They even go as far as to mention that there are benches in at least every three gallery’s. I give them huge props for this to not only have the benches but to mention it on their website. This is a huge concern for me when I plan an outing and it allowed me to focus more on the visit instead of worrying about how well I could navigate the museum. When I was there the staff went out of their way to be helpful.
Eddie Mun
The architecture and artwork displayed is worth the trip. You could spend a day here if you were to truly go through everything the museum has to offer
Ross Hamza Foy
This is one of the largest museums that I've visited and I must say it is an incredible feat of architecture with one of the greatest assortment of collections. This museum, though it learns more towards European and American collections, has an aesthetically pleasing Asian collection as well. You will definitely need the two days to fully appreciate all found within due to the museum's size and the spacing between exhibits and layouts.
Walter J Slowe III
On my homecoming visit to Philadelphia, my son suggested that we go to the museum in the evening. Pay what you can after 5. Oh the young!😁 It hit me when I ran the steps like a fiftyish Balboa!
I am going this great museum at night. What an amazing experience. NIGHT IN THE PHILLY MUSUEM 5STARS
Dominic Reed
Absolutely beautiful! I was here for a private event for which my client rented the museum out so I didn’t get the full daytime experience as some sections were closed off. But I got to tour most of it. The art speaks for itself and I love the variety of medium on display. I especially love how they’ve curated and uplifted several Black and Brown artists and stories. But I think what impressed me the most was the people working there! While touring the galleries, I was highly impressed by the knowledge of each of the staff members who pointed out a work. Their passion really shines and makes you feel welcomed in the museum.
Bobby Conlon
We did the tourist thing and stopped by to chill and pop a few pics. The Rocky statue is at the bottom of the stairs and the stairs were a chill spot.
Kelly Anarchy
Chilly but cozy! Beautiful walk towards a gazebo out to a tall cliff that looks down over long man-made water fall on the Schuylkill river while the sun is setting...nice day!
Beth McLaughlin
This is well worth your time - we spent two hours here and only made it through a floor and a half. I would allow a good four hours here, and you could kill eight thanks to the cafe and comprehensive exhibits. The third floor is a gem featuring fully reconstructed rooms from around the world. Walk through a wood-paneled, rustic French room from 1300s Paris and contrast it with the opulent 17th century Parisian salon down the hall; relax in the cloister courtyard; marvel at the Buddhist temple from Beijing and then check out the 14th century Japanese Buddhist shrine next to a complete tea house. Don’t miss Van Gogh’s Sunflowers on the second floor—your path will be lined with gorgeous landscapes by Monet!
Ous-Ami Sexton
Such a beautiful museum, amazing history behind it all. It would have probably been better with an actual tour guide though
Robin Barnes
The collection will hold many things of interest to any visitor.
Works are now presented in a much more engaging way for the visitor. Staff are welcoming and helpful. Gift shop features many local craft artists' work for sale in addition to traditional gift shop goodies like postcards and other memorabilia featuring prints of iconic works of art from the collection.
I always leave feeling rejuvenated and more creative!
A wonderful place to visit solo, with family, as a group of friends, or on a date.

By far one of the best museums I’ve ever been to in the United States.. nyc has great museums but this one in Philly is one of the best as well.. I did my visit in 2 hours and 30 mins.. one can spend at least 3-4 hours looking at everything if not more.. there is plenty of 2 hour street parking around but you have to walk about less than 10 mins or so to get to the museum.. check it out
Kyle Goodman
Spend any time in Philly and you'll be familiar with the Museum of Art. At any time of day you will see people running up the stairs and posing at the top or taking pictures with the Rocky statue right nearby.
When you decide to go inside, make sure you have plenty of time blocked off. They have pay what you wish admission the first Sunday of every month and every Friday night. There are two entrances, a large entrance on the northwest side and a smaller one on the north side. When we entered without tickets to the north entrance, we were directed to the other one.
Once you're inside, you will be instantly wowed! The museum opens up to a massive room with a lovely staircase, a gold statue, massive tapestries of Constantine and the famous "Ghost" mobile by Alexander Calder. Tangent, Calder's father made Swann Fountain in Logan Square and his grandfather made the statue of William Penn atop City Hall.
The special exhibit currently is Jasper Johns. He used myriad techniques to create his works and it was fascinating to see his range. After that we came across some beautiful works by 19th century American artists. Then it got wild when we walked up a staircase and were transported into a South Asia world.
The fun doesn't stop with the art. The real party is in the elevators. They are massive and we only went in the smaller one. Our fellow passengers said that the massive one was big enough to do a cartwheel in. I proved them wrong by doing a cartwheel in the smaller one.
Enjoy your time here and make sure to take advantage of your ticket being good for two days and also at the Rodin Museum nearby! Go see some cool sculptures.
Tatiana Hernandez
Big area with a great view. Didn't have the opportunity to go inside the museum that day but looking forward to it. The Rocky movie with Silvester Stallone was filmed at this location.
Elisamuel Cruz
Highly recommend if you want to see beautiful architect, painting, and statues also I recommend when coming by is to take a picture with the rocky statue and steps before seeing anything else!
Fred Ortiz
I visited the museum on a cold, quiet Friday morning. What a beautiful experience it was.
GEORGIOS MICHAEL
Amazing collection of art inside the museum . Outside is Rocky Balboa s iconic stairs and statue from the movies.
Shani S
Amazing art museum! Had a huge variety of Hindu art, would definitely visit again to finish rest of the floors! :)
Lindsay LeBoeuf
I am a huge fan of Brancusi's sculptures and was so excited to see many of them housed at this museum. Your ticket gives you two days at the museum so take your time and joy the art, there is something for everyone. Free parking behind the museum on Waterworks Dr for 2 hours (6am-10pm) if you can find a spot--there is only 1 spot without a limit on Sundays which is to the left of the handicap spots in front of the Lloyd Hall Rec Center ;)
Joseph Merlino
I went to see an amazing exhibit and had a wonderful time walking around the art museum. This place is 100% like the way I remember it when I was in college. From 2003 to now the place is still amazing and still keeping up with the times. You now have interactive displays around the place to learn more about what you are looking at in some places. The environment is so nice and everyone is respectful. Just overall a beautiful place to do.
Kasey
One of the largest and wonderful museums I have ever gone to. You have to come visit
Y Y
Incredible museum full of art from all time periods, genres, and regions.
E Jr Ayala
Amazing how this became an attraction site just because of the movie rocky… glad I went because it makes for some great pictures. If your in philly you absolutely need to stop grab some ice cream and snap a few photos here. In addition the museum is most definitely worth visiting however I just went for the stairs lol
Juan Mora (Taftmanian)
Beautiful place to see if you ever go to Philly and you are a Rocky fan.
Everyone runs 🏃♂️ up the steps pretending to be rocky. There is one downside to this place.
That is all the lazy peddling and hustling people pesting the tourists for money. Do pay them or give them a penny.
Tell them to get a job. I call out Philly city officials to address this issue and correct it.
Cece B Sanchez
Very happy we had time to visit this excellent museum during our road trip to Philly.. It is about an hour drive from NJ. Beautiful art work, great atmosphere. The ticket remains valid for 2 days for those who want to spend more time, especially art lovers. Friendly staff and very nice cafeteria. We will definitely return.
The Segarra Chronicles
Obviously gotta have that Rocky theme music handy and on repeat for this trip. Super awesome family experience. Most see and do.
Edgar Movsisyan
Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the best museums in US, if you are visiting Philadelphia you should definitely check this place
Buzz C
Love this museum, it’s been many years since my last visit…. But I appreciated it even more on this trip. What an incredible collection, Picasso, Duchamp, Twombly, Mondrian , st gaudens… the list goes on and on. All housed in this beautiful architectural temple. This museum is a must see. My one complaint is the signage or lack of it… we walked up those stairs only to find the entrance was on the complete other side
Naomi Leonard
Large museum with various art pieces. Tickets were $25. We went on a Sunday and although we bought our tickets beforehand but there was not wait getting through.
Sky
I like the way how these masterpieces are exhibited in this museum. All items under the same era and the same topic are placed together, and visitors can immerse in that environment when the relics were produced, and it bring you back to hundreds, even thousands of years ago. For example, the overall treating room of a Chinese Temple was rebuilt, a complete Japanese yard was also rebuilt as well. BTW, I can not imagine how people made these 4 thousand years ago, and told us again “nothing is impossible”.
Ryan Rasmason
I LOVE a good museum and this one is great! Wish I had more time to go through. We went through the Matisse exhibit last month. Not my type of art, but then we went through the medieval armor and old Christian art exhibits. So amazing! It was our last day in Philly, so I wish I had more time to explore, but I will be back!! I didn't run up the steps. I slowly walked up them while smoking a cigarette. That's my speed.
Killian Killian
Loved the artwork! First time seeing a bunch of Picasso and Monet!
Chris Gleeson
It's great to be able to visit this amazing museum without restrictions in place. The renovations and updates to the inside of the museum are mostly finished and new and expanded spaces are available to see. It takes at least a couple of days to be able to see most of the galleries and exhibits. The location is easy to get to in Philly, parking garage rates are very reasonable and you have the whole parkway of other attractions to go see. Highly recommend a visit at least once or more!
Brooke Freeman
Beautiful museum!! I’d say it took about 2.5 hours to go through the whole place. I would definitely visit again!
Jarvis Perryman
Everything was great we wanted Rocky and the Art Museum it was the best choice we've ever made..
Donna Donna
You will need at least 2 days to see all the art in the museum. A peaceful place to enjoy all forms of art, from sculpture to textiles. Spend time with the art, do some journaling or just take a moment and marvel at the beauty.
Hannah Feldman
The Philadelphia Art Museum is a must-see when visiting Philadelphia! I typically find that it takes me about 2 hours to walk through, excluding time spent in gift shops and the special exhibit. I recommend using a map because some exhibits are a bit more hidden but are must-sees, like the Asia exhibit and the Modern Art exhibit. They have a really great variety and collection of art, as well as multiple cafes located inside. The gift shops are fantastic places to shop for gifts for people, as they feature a lot of work from local artisans.
Lucas Kirkbride
Great experience for the whole family! They had exhibits that I wasn't even expecting, like the weapons and armor exhibit and the ancient Asian rooms and temple recreation! We spent 4.5 hrs there and still had more to see! Great museum!!
Judy LoBasso
My husband and I recently went to the museum to see the Matisse exhibit. It was excellent! The people at the museum were helpful and professional. We had one small suggestion for the museum curators. How about putting the information about the painting on BOTH sides of the painting, also in larger type? It would stop lines and clumps of people for waiting to read about the painting/drawing. Also, there was a terrific guard there named Dave. So knowledgeable!
sidhu rao surya
Amazing experience. A must visit while you are in Philadelphia. Entertaining and educational.
Pantelis Galatoulas
This was the most interesting US based museum I have been to in quite a long time. Everything was well taken care of and placed accordingly. There were a couple of areas that were closed due to new items being brought into the building. The 2 full floors of history was incredible. The new Asian architecture area was mind blowing to say the least. Was a bit on the pricier end of the spectrum but was well worth the visit. We spent about 2 hours going through the whole building but could have easily spent longer had we not had other reservations.
Monica Sanchez
We started on the basement level which did not have much, by the 4th floor there were so many different exhibits. All of the staff were very friendly. 18 and under are free, $25 for adults, military and their guests are free, and they also offer student discounts. You can also come back a second day for free.
Laurens Geffert
This place covers a very large range of epochs and styles. I love how some of the exhibits in the earlier time periods are integrated into the architecture of the building, I have never seen anything like it! The collection is very well-curated and there is enough material to spend an entire day here if you have the stamina. Your tickets are good for a return visit on the following day so you can always spread it out more if you prefer that. The beautiful setting and surroundings give you plenty to do outside of the museum as well. Run up the front stairs like Rocky, wander the gardens and discover hidden statues, take a break in the pagodas on the western side of the building, and visit the waterworks down at the river with a view of the famous Philly Boat House Row.
Sunil Ohri
Went to see the Matisse exhibit which was good. The museum is very impressive!! I only got through one wing, and even that was hurried, but it was AMAZING. They have entire rooms recreating a Chinese Buddhist village, an Indian temple, a Greek/Italian house with a fountain in the courtyard, and many more. The stained glass exhibit needs more time than I could give to it. They also have a very cool exhibit from an artist group called Drift. You will absolutely want to Google the group and learn more about them. They're doing VERY cool stuff.
And that's all in just one wing. If you enjoy museums, this is a MUST see. Allow yourself two full days so that you're not rushed.
shannon tonetta
I love how the Rodin Museum and PMoA have the thing where you just buy one ticket that works for both of them, and its pay what you can. So helpful for students like myself who want to experience culture without the guilt of spending money :)
Hamid Chefchaouni
It is more than about Rocky Balboa. It is a beautiful building in a beautiful location in Philadelphia.
Joshua Erfurth
Was not expecting it to be so big and have so many exhibits. Could spend all day and plan on going back.
Erik Johnson
Philadelphia’s temple of art… the recent reimagining by Frank Gehry is elegant and understated, although you now enter from the reverse side from the iconic city view. It’s almost as if the institution is rejecting it’s association with the iconic 1980’s Rocky step aerobics triumph on the front steps. Anyway… inside there are major impressionist holdings amongst other highlights. Don’t miss Van Gogh’s sunflowers.
Arvinder Dhaliwal
After working in Philly for over 7 years, finally took time to take kids to visit the museum and kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Really cool and amazing place. Kids loved it too.
Austin Gwiazdowski
This was awesome. I haven't been there for a while, but I used to come as a child, and would get bored. As an adult, especially as someone who has done a little bit of drawing, I have a much greater appreciation for the art museum and for the beautiful works of art there, and for the beautiful building. I would highly recommend going. It is a cultural icon, and a beautiful place.
Joshua Snow
Checked out the Matisse exhibit and it was amazing. Always enjoy my favorites, the Asian and modern art exhibits.
Joao Magalhaes
Such a great place to visit especially when it is cold outside. I love their permanent collection as well as the special exhibits. Visiting the museum is a regular activity in our calendar. The museum is a true gem, and the newly renovated space and expanded galleries make this cultural landmark even more special.
Josh Drespling
Great art museum. So many classic pieces to see. It takes a FULL day or more to see everything. We were tuckered out after 3 or 4 hours and missed a lot of things.
Remember to take your parking ticket in with you and have them validate it. It will save you about $15 on parking. If not validated parking was $34.
KC
Astonishing museum with a plethora exhibits to satisfy all tastes. The museum is impressive and there are plenty of amenities that allow you to keep exploring while enjoying your visual experience. The architecture compliments the exhibits well as there are high vaulted ceilings, staircases, and impressive colonnades throughout. Start to finish, top to bottom, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is awe inspiring and joyful occasion.
Priya
This place doesnt need intro. You can also see the skyline of philly which is amazing
Kelly Peart
We visited on a Friday night. Employees were protesting outside and were yelling at people not to enter, but we ignored them because it was the only chance we were able to go to the museum. They were a nuisance. But once inside we had a really enjoyable evening exploring the museum. We enjoyed seeing the exhibit with the stone work of abbeys and we liked the different sections.
Matthew Blackburn
Definitely a must do if you're in Philly. No one bothers you even at late hours, and you can pull right up and park even though it says no parking.
B.R. Simkin
I would like to give my special thanks and appreciation to the staff person named Perez who saw that my son with POTS and EDS was struggling to stand (he only brought a cane) in the long Matisse line. She showed my son a place to sit and went all the way downstairs to get him a wheelchair.
I was also impressed with the efficiency and the deliciousness of the museum cafe. They were at capacity but thanks to staffing and stations, the line moved very quickly.
Oh, and the Matisse was amazing obviously!’n
V Fri
One of the best collections of impressionists in the world. Unexpected American art collection. Love visiting and wondering the halls. Fan for over 20 years.
One negative this time: Matisse exhibit is poorly organized. It is super popular but the timed tickets purchased in advance are not honoured. The wait is over 30 minutes in a crowded space with unmasked people breathing down your neck.
They should try to extend the duration or have a better visitors control.
Anja Bell
Wonderful, especially if they do don't engage in Union busting fir their awesome employees
Brett Geaman
Great museum with a wide variety. Reasonably priced and plenty of days with discounts / pay your own price. Very large, expect to walk a lot! Saw a few works by Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso
Brian Parker
Beautiful building and great city, museum district is spotless
Roger Haak
Unlike other museums, I appreciated the "empty" space between galleries, allowing my eyes to rest. It made going from one gallery to the next feel refreshing.
And my heart leapt from my chest in the Duchamp section. Never in my life did I think I would be able to view those monumental works - in the same space no less!
Carla Mink
Don't get me wrong, I love art museums but this one is probably the worst I've been to. Very disappointed. Design of exhibit halls were difficult to navigate and very closed off. I felt trapped most of the time and traffic flow difficult. Majority of staff I came in contact with were honesty either off putting or just creepy. Survey taker at end got mad cause I didn't want to take her survey. I was on vacation and didn't want to take a survey. I just wanted out. Majority of art was extremely redundant and not interesting. I was forcing enjoyment most of the time and definitely felt cost was way to high considering collections didn't hold many masterful pieces to warrant cost. Would come back to Philadelphia but not this museum.
Benjamin Jiin
This is a world class museum.
If I had three thumbs it would receive three thumbs up 👍 👍 👍 …
Anchine Liu
Wonderful museum overall! Prices are reasonable for 25$ per adult, 23 per senior and kids are free! (18 and under) the museum is very grand and handsome and there are countless exhibits including sculptures and paintings. There are a surprising amount of famous paintings and generally many aspects of art; landscape paintings, portraits, still life, clay sculptures, chair sculptures, etc. There are many Monet and Renoir paintings with a good collection of Van Gogh, Pissarro, Degas, Manet, and Cezanne paintings too. You could spend an endless amount of time here and not get bored! I recommend coming here.

The Matisse Exhibit was fabulous. Many great canvases I've not seen. Interesting prospective bybthw curator too. I'm going back! Of course the museum is filled with fantastic items for every interest. Worth a visit to Philadelphia.
Kevin Avena
This museum is MASSIVE and if you go into detail with every art piece and exhibit, it'll take you a whole day or two just to get the full experience. Simply this means there's a lot of content from American Art, to European Impressionism, from modern and contemporary to Asian and European art, you'll find something to absolutely love about this museum. They're strict on covid 19 guidelines which is great. The place is well kept and clean even in the bathrooms. It might be a little wait to go upstairs but trust me it'll be worth it. Like I said it's a massive museum so there's a lot to explore and take in, so take your time and enjoy all the little things you find that speak to you. Learn from history and see the antiques and relics lost in time, artifacts beautifully restored and presented perfectly for all to see and understand. Learn about artists such as Pablo Picasso or Vincent Van Gogh and their art in which they poured their heart and soul into. Leave knowing you're a better person having gone through this time machine of a museum, its absolutely beautiful and I feel filled with culture and history every time I visit. Thank you for this experience, just wish the gift shop didn't have such a long line but it's okay I enjoyed everything no matter what. Enjoy the museum and take your time, take the ink, colors, patterns, history, art all in and process the emotions and feelings felt when standing in front of these beautiful works of art and history, it's worth every penny.
Alex Neporozhny
Waiting line long was long. Seems they were trying to upsale products ( as membership, etc): so just prepare to wait 30 minutes before you will get your ticket or book it online ( which also time consuming as interface is not simple!)
But the meeting with real art treasures forth every penny you spend. It's a good idea to come early morning, as you might spend much more time than planning...

Pro & con: this place is absolutely huge... prepare for a lot of walking and standing, and be there as early as it opens if you really wanna take a deep dive.
it's definitely helpful that you can come back the next day with the same ticket and continue!!!
Bucky Scott
This was finish line for the Philadelphia Marathon 2022. It looks beautiful but was it cold. What a amazing event for Philadelphia.
Chris Battle Sr.
I thought I outsmarted the system by parking at the top of the museum steps… But they moved the rocky statue to the bottom and I had to walk down which means… You got it had to walk back up the steps.
It was too late in the evening by the time we were able to make it for us to go into the museum. Next time
Allison Cook
Absolutely beautiful museum and well worth a visit! They have a wide variety of art—from the usual paintings, sculptures, photos to unique everyday items like glassware and furniture, knights' armor and ancient weapons. My favorite part was that many of the rooms are emersive, so not only are you looking at art but you feel like you've entered into the space where that art would be found. There's also a beautiful view of the city from the front of the building.
Vanessa K
I'd never been before so I can't compare before/after renovation, but the museum is beautiful. If you're a fan of doorways and arches, they have masterfully integrated entry art into the design. If you want to see everything, it's a full day activity.
John Herman
What a great building filled with amazing exibits.
Jenny Ross
Wow, I need to come here again. Multiple categories of note, including medieval armor and weapons, some odd contemporary art, and - frankly - the building itself are of fascinating. Oh, and the visitor should pay their respects to the bust of Benjamin Franklin. Enjoy ...
Jean
Great to finally see the rocky statue! Beware of the people trying to take picture of you for 5$ they get agressive when you say no...
PIYUSH KESHARWANI
Beautiful place and it has many attractions near by
Ethan Wenger
Fantastic museum! It is amazing to see wonderful works of art you never see every day. The staff were friendly and they were good at giving directions. Some of the best pieces of art in history are in this museum. If you live near Philadelphia or if you are on vacation to Philly, make the time to come to this museum. You will not regret it.
RAHUL CHANDRAN.R
Nice place to roam around during weekends. Must visit places in Philadelphia
brian frost
This place nearly overwhelms you in the subject of art. From the Roman pillars upon entry (or the Rocky Stairs if you're a Philly guy)
3 stories, dual winged, central vestibule. Marble and granite with golden statues.
Spend the 20 some dollars, the ticket is valid for 48 hours.
Monet, to Dali.
Horse armor to feudal Japan.
And constantly rotating wings.
A bucket list level art museum.
Jonathan Belle
I moved to Philly February 2020 and two years later I finally went.
I LOVE this museum! It is so beautiful and elegant. Plenty of things to see and I feel like I spent at-least an hour on the second floor. The layout is easy to navigate as well!
Kathleen Card
I love this museum & am a member in good standing. The special shows are great. But I love the Asian rooms. The Buda statues & art inspire me. Go, its so worth the effort.
Olga Kornilova
Impressive collection, loved the 2 day admission. There's so much to see that you really need at least two 4-5 hrs days to cover it. Roden museum is included in the admission, and also has very nice collection.
Bilal Khan
One of the best museums in all of US. The 3rd and 2nd floor will blow you away! Their European collection and the armour section was unbelievable! As a bonus, you get to walk the famous rocky steps!
Wild Down
I adored strolling through here finding inspiration for poems and stories in the art and people looking at the art. Reasonable price too. Even let me in when I showed up a bit late
Kim Smith
Iconic, wonderful exhibit and so much fun experiencing steps.
Katherine R.
If you live in Philly and still haven't made it around to getting to the gem that is the Art Museum, do yourself a favor and make some time to GO. Every time I go I discover something new and fascinating. There is so much to explore and soak in. Take your kids, your parents, your friends and spend the day immersed in the past and future of art and all that it is and could be!
Jason Adams
One of the finest museums I've been to on the east coast. The some of the exhibits allow for such an immersing experience is incredible. The Asian art gallery is a must!
Tara
My dad and I went to see the Matisse exhibit. He studied fine art in college and absolutely loved it. We took a break in the cafe and enjoyed a delicious Chai latte before going to see Van Gogh, Monet, and others. They have many famous pieces and it was really enjoyable. I personally love the armory section. It’s fascinating!
My only complaint is the enormous green room they have near the classic art. There are multiple TVs going in that room and it is so loud, you can’t understand a word that’s being said. I understand it’s part of an exhibit all its own, but I wish they could either turn the volume down on the monitors or move it to another area of the museum. It’s so loud and really detracts from enjoying the exhibits around it. We finally left because you just can’t concentrate.
Michael Brunken
The Matisse in the 1930s exhibit is amazing. It places Philadelphia at the center of the artist’s journey to find new inspiration and a new mode of expression. Of particular interest are the work in progress photos. It’s incredible to see the starting point and compare it to the end product.
St Witko
Did a private tour for Matisse, sorry for spelling. Well worth it. Learned interesting facts that I can only hope I recall in conversations. Walked through impressionists wing, found it interesting. On-site parking $10 with validation of museum admission
B Z
It’s a beautiful structure. Makes you realize that the surrounding modern construction is really bland compared to it
Jose N.
Awesome place I only went at night so it wasn’t open but the out side was awesome there are many things to see
Yisroel Brownstein
I went with my niece today April the 22nd . We had a phenomenal time! I'm not from philly, but it was amazing to be there! Just to be by the statue alone! Running up the steps! And my niece actually took a video and had the rocky soundtrack playing in the background while I was Dancing at the top of the steps. We also looked at the garden and everything else around the building. It's unfortunate that it's shut down for right now, but there was plenty to do outside! It was a little bit cold, and that was the only negative thing that I can even think of period something obviously out of your control.
Daniel Niven
Wonderful museum of art !!! Great collections.
Alexa Nahas
This Iconic Philly photo space is a great local area with a variety of backdrops. No matter how many people are there, there's always a way to capture just the family. It's also a great way to show the true characteristics of Philly and all the things we love about it. With the added ability to keep your kids involved while having fun recreating the iconic rocky run.
Edgar Rios
Great place to visit and catch some history!
Sarah Sempier
No matter how many times I've walked through this museum, some painting or room will emotionally move me. For the first time it was the modern art area... I feel enlightened with a new appreciation for modern art.
Rachel
I can appreciate the effort out into decorating each room for the theme they were going for. It was impressive. I’m not a big art museum fan, but this was a good experience.
Shereese Maynard
I attended a Redox event here and it was amazing. So beautiful and a great place fir a private party.
Corey Fischer
Top 5 art museum in the United States. Some of the best and exclusive traveling exhibits in the world. Right down the street from the Barnes Museum. You can see more impressionist art in Philadelphia than almost anywhere in the world other than Paris.
Jerry Uc
Excellent, museum. Plus a must for Rocky fans
John Hupp
Armor and weapons exhibit was awesome. Everything was great. The Matisse exhibit though, it was not good. Matisse, does not impress me.
Moustapha Balde
The Matisse's art is a must see.
I purchased a year membership for my family and we have unlimited visit to all selected museums in Philadelphia.
Sunday's is like give what you can, from 1penny to you know it's dependent how deep or tick your pocket or wallet is.
Norman Tweet
I'm not really an art person, but wow, this place is amazing. Even just browsing can take over an hour. The exhibits aren't limited to just paintings; there's sculptures and dioramas, and even a collection of armor! Definitely worth a visit, especially if you get entry as part of a GoCity or City pass. And don't forget to take a selfie with Rocky and run up the steps!
Victoria Feinberg
Must see! We didn't expect it as the same size as MET but their and collection is huge and the museum
has so many unique and interesting exhibits. They check your temperature upon entering the building. Parking is $15 up to 4 hours and it's conveniently locate d next to the museum building. You have to take a ticket with you and the concierge puts a special sticker for your discount. We had no problem with entering museum by specific time slot as it was posted when you buy tickets online. If you forgot your mask they have free masks to offer. Sadly, museum closes its doors at 5pm and museum shop is open till 4:30only. If you really into art consider membership because they do have so much to see. Щас
Jason Zimmerman
Philadelphia has a gem of a museum. From Monet to Picasso to Bellini to Frederic, there is something for everyone to see. The current selection of Asian art is astounding, specifically the Indian exhibits. The armor rooms were interesting since I hadn’t seen such a large collection before. I appreciated how spread out the art was so there was room to appreciate it before moving on to the next exhibit. We spent about 3-4 hours there and saw most of the exhibits. You could definitely spend more time if you were to read all the exhibits or want to study them more.
david goldwasser
I'm a bus driver at a CCRC (retirement community). I transported a group of residents to see the Matisse exhibit. The entire experience could not have been better. It was an insanely busy day, but the staff managed the madness to perfection. Dee, Dianne, the cafe/restaurant staff, to the man/woman everyone was really remarkable!! Great great culture and very appreciated from a high expectation and high maintenance guy LIKE ME!!! REALLY INCREDIBLE, THANKS!!
Amnon Nachshon
I am not really an art museum kind of guy but I had a few hours to kill and this is right next to the Rocky steps. I did learn a few new things visiting and saw some amazing works of are including the sunflowers which I did not expect. The new exhibit, is a little creepy and is hard to understand but sure looks cool. Staff was friendly and helpful, bathrooms are small but in good working order and water fountains are drippy. Overall a good experiance but a one time thing.
Darrin Buxman
You could lose yourself for days here. Quiet and awe inspiring.
Mary Williams
Simplistic yet fascinating. This museum has an immense collection from all over the world. And yet it doesn’t feel cluttered, “busy” or overwhelming to the senses. It is quiet (except when school kids are coming through) and imparts the respect deserved to such amazing treasures. You can spend 2 hours or 2 days in this museum! Very pleased and will likely be back again!!!
Rileyjo Henderson
Beautiful! We did the general highlights tour and it was nice. Our guide was very knowledgeable and had a great enthusiasm for his job. It was a bit brief and focused on only a few items but was great none the less.
Cassandra Ford
Love this museum. It's beautiful. The Asian Collection is a must. Both the restaurant and Cafe serve delicious food. I usually visit for a specific exhibit. Most recently Sean Scully and Matisse 1930s. Highly recommend.
Apoorv Goel
Good views of downtown. Didnt go inside so can’t comment on that
Doctor DeMento
My Wife and I came to see the special Matisse exhibition, which was wonderful. Afterwards, we perused the regular Early American Art displays and Contemporary Arts exhibitions. We enjoyed a nice Lunch at the Café there, since the upscale STIR Restaurant did not have any Vegetarian options... loading their Entrées with Pork & Shellfish. My only negative to prevent a 5&Star rating is the Museum's lack of consideration for the Kosher, Halal & Vegetarian community... which is surprising & disappointing. Overall though, a wonderful place to spend the day & grab a please nosh at the Café!
Zoltan Molnar
If you live in the Philly area, I highly recommend a membership. How wonderful to stop in for an hour or so any time you want, just to hang out with your favorite Monets and Cezannes, and not feel like you need to stay all day for the 25-dollar entrance fee. Also, 1st Sunday of the month is pay-as-you-wish.
Sabira Uvaliyeva
Amazing art pieces and whole rooms that look like they were taken directly from history books and broughtto life. One note that the central entrance from the top of rocky steps was closed. We had to go around and enter from the ground level by Boulevard entrance.
Anwar Hossain
Steps of the museum is more popular for the statue of Rocky. However, Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the most iconic places in the city of Philadelphia (City of brotherly love). Benjamin Franklin parkway is so beautiful and breathtaking for its beautiful design and at the end of this parkway Philadelphia Museum of art stands with its marvelous structure and hundreds of years of history of the city of Philadelphia. Famous Sylvester Stallone movie Rocky was filmed here in the steps of the museum which attracts visitors a lot. There is a statue of Rocky on the right side of the museum and it’s always crowded by the Rocky lovers to take a photo with the statue. But the museum itself has so many things to offer and to experience that you have to spend at least a day in the museum. This is the best place to learn about American history of Art!
filipe zanini
Haven't been to the inside but the outside is great. Even if you haven't watched rocky, it it's a place worth visiting. Nice architecture and nice surroundings. Only issue was the two "homeless" guys (don't think they were) forcing tourists to let them take pictures and charging money (20 bucks for two photos taken with my own phone? Come on. One dollar is more than enough).
W. Jeff Crawford
One need only step into the art world for a moment to ensure delight in all that they provide to the world. The divided sections provide everything from Van Gogh, Cézanne, and Monet, to contemporary works like Picasso and Duchamp. Most famous for the "Rocky climb", where Sylvester Stallone ran up the steps in the movie "Rocky", the museum offers way more than just that tidbit and will likely delight most people who enter and walk the halls through numerous galleries.
J T B
This is part of the path behind the museum. It's lovely in the spring and fall.
Joel Naicker
If it's an art museum, then why is Groots ancestor on display... epic museum, a definite must do
Michael Ackley (Mike)
What a beautiful building! We went to the first and the lower floors but it was very nice. The exhibits were very cool!
juliana de jesus trindade
a beautiful place, with a beautiful view of the city of Philadelphia, there you will also find the famous staircase where the rock movie was filmed, the rock steps the iconic statue of the famous character of silvester Stallone, It is very worth the visit.
Art Sedmont
The best $23 you will ever spend in your life. These are the masters, and Matisse tops them all. Too much to see in one day, but take the guided whirlwind tour to get a lay of the land.
Dane Kowalick
This is a fantastic experience. Many free tours and nearly endless pieces to look through. The sound exhibit they had the bottom floor was extremely cacophonous, but you don't have to listen to it if you leave the first floor.
Tiffany Arsu Duryea
You could spend days here. Very famous artwork lives here. It's $25 a person for admission but that is okay with me because you could spend a lot of time here. Best museum I have ever been to.
Caitlyn Walsh
I have been going to this museum since I was a little girl and I have loved taking my son over the years! This is a great museum with lots of rotating exhibits. It is also huge so you can go many times and still find new things! We love everything about it but especially enjoy the rooms that are built like replicas of historic sites from different cultures.
Jim Simmonds
My company had their holiday party there. It was very nice
Kelsey Hodgson
This was the first museum I've been to since Covid, and it was so nice to be able to return! The museum is taking precautions seriously, they're strong on mandating masks and taking temperature at the doors. Hand sanitizer stations are frequently around. Some art installations (a certain Duchamp door comes to mind) are closed off for now to prevent close contact. But the art is still beautiful and the space is still inspiring. It's definitely what's needed for the soul right about now.
Lisa Kim
Beautiful collection.
We came the day it was 80 degree. Nice and cool inside. Their cafe is also nice and clean.
I would definitely come back for another round.
They had 2 special exhibits I enjoyed.
Japanese tea house could have been a bit better with presentation. Overall great museum.
Andre Renovato
The whole are is magnificent. The museum, the fountain, Rocky's statue. Off course, I had to sprint up the stairs just like the Italian Stallion. Super recommend for a cultural-family day off.
Betty Belanus
Went to see the Matisse exhibit but you can see the rest of the museum too on that ticket. so much great art to see! impossible to see it all in one trip.
Chris R
It’s always fun to go to the art museum. They do a little things here and there I enjoy it. From childhood to adulthood its consistent.
Isabelle Tran
The building itself is actually huge and grand.
Museum costs $20 for adults to enter but it was well worth it as there were hours worth of exhibits to walk through. It is spread across two floors and house a lot of old armor, pictures, structures, even whole courtyards and rooms.
Not a place for really young kids as some exhibits are not housed behind glass.
Patricia Barrow
Beautiful museum! We became members years ago & it has been well worth it. PMOA was our (TN) Grands first experience in a LARGE museum. They seldom complained about all the walking as they'd get distracted by the fine art in the next room!
Jane L
I live in DC so I'm used to free museums but I have to say, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is well worth the admission price. Your ticket will also include other galleries like the Rodin Museum and the Barnes Collection and be valid for two days.
I was amazed at the art on display and how close you could get to it! There's a whole room for Ellsworth Kelly! The hallways are even gorgeous.
It's also fun seeing everyone run up the Rocky steps and pose by the statue.
It's a must for all art people!
Dan Wilding
Nice, open, comfortable location with a fabulous view of down town Philadelphia. Great place for photos. This place is also known as the"Rocky Steps" as this is where the famous Rocky movie scene was filmed. We visited the location in the dark. We walked from down town and back again... safe, clean and well lit the entire way.
Desiree Johnston
Wonderful museum and it is huge! Great pricing and there are quite a few Monet, Picasso, and even a Van Gogh to admire. What a treat! Our 15mo old daughter was entertained enough for 2hrs as well which is a huge bonus. This is my new favorite art museum.
Tom Donovan
Great exhibits and knowledgeable staff
Key
An awesome experience Wednesday night. The museum closes at 9 on Wednesday, and it's nice to be able to enjoy the area in a less crowded manner. Walking being able to enjoy wine (which they serve) and see thought provoking ancient works and exhibits is an experience I didn't realize I needed.
They also seem to have yoga classes which is something I hope to try next time
Donna Barrett
Great collection... a little pricy. I seen some of my favourite artists. Degas, Renoir, Picasso, Dali to name a few. The duplications of a cathedral, Temple and Japanese village were amazing!!!
Barbara Beers
Be sure to visit the historic rooms on the third floor.
Sue Spolan
Always a pleasure to visit this museum. Amazing internationally recognized collection. It’s currently under construction, so a bit confusing to enter. But it was so cool to see a part of the museum I’d never experienced, arriving at the north entrance. Best to focus on a few areas and break up your visit into several parts. It’s too easy to slip into an Instagram mentality and do the equivalent of scrolling through the images. Go for quality over quantity and truly look at the art.
Patrick Pagal
This is such a fascinating place! From the rocky statue to the fountain and the sculptures! The artwork and craftsmanship methodically moves a person to the unique and rich history that Philadelphia has to offer! Truly a remarkable place to walk around, explore, and visit. This place is a must see if your in the area. The view alone is breathtaking and beautiful. So much character and architecture to explore and see!
Jorge Hawthorne
I love this place walking around the museum is pretty cool with beautiful scenery one day they will open up those huge Olympic size swimming pools witch been closed since 1970 something from a rain flood 🙂 …
Elizabeth Campion
Loved two special temporary exhibits,
MATISSE, and
MACHO MEN.
In awe of the permanent collection.
I have been to zMuseums around the country and the world, and this is one of the best!
Ewelina Niedzwiecki
This was my first time to see this museum and it didn't disappoint. It has something for everyone. The building itself is absolutely beautiful. The paintings, artwork and the actual display of fashion amazing. We had a great time and enjoyed every minute of it.
Le Va
Hello. I had the privilege to visit this museum. One of the best in the nation. Went there on a wednesday night when the tickets are voluntary donation.
The bad side of this is that you have not enough time to see all the galleries but still it was a great experience.
It is a bar to have a cocktail or a beer but you are not allow to bring it inside of the galleries.
This a museum in your not to miss list.
Humaira Yusuf
A wonderful place for hangout with family and friends. We were amazed to get a full, wide view of Philadelphia Downtown. It was just beautiful. And if you want to feel like Rocky Balboa.... This is the place where the iconic scene with Sylvester Stallone was shot.
Suneisha Monique
I have been going since a child and the Museum seems better every time I get to go. As an adult I think I can appreciate it more!
Iryna Chekhinda
It reminds me of Greece with those steps and colonies. I think they have an interesting impressionist gallery and surrealism section. I like the artworks of Venice. Not so many sculptures, but they are nice. Your ticket will include entrance to the Rodin museum, which is not so far from the museum of art. They have a nice dinner section below down. It's a nice place to visit.
Tarah Smith
I've been here a few years ago, and We Loved the exhibits. They have truly one of a kind portraits, furniture and so much more. You definitely can't conquer it all in one session. We tried to visit again last Thursday and due to Covid and a silly change of hours, We were unable to attend. Thats OK.... We will just go next weekend!!!. I love the atmosphere in and around the Art Museum. So rich in History you can practically feel it!!!
Tatiana Avdjiev
Love, love, love! Beautiful building and surroundings, stunning Rocky view from the top of the stairs, remarkable architecture, great extended hours on Wednesday. The interior was also impressive as well as the exhibits. The only issue I had was with the map not reflecting correctly (or just confusing) the spaces, so I never found Rubens’ works.
Cynthia
This museum is well laid out, interesting, and spacious. I loved walking around, and we cannot wait to go back.
The GOOD Now
Had a blast at ugly Christmas sweater night!
Credible Critic
Good museum in the heart of Philadelphia. Its permanent exhibit is quite extensive cover both Eastern and Western parts of the world. Many exhibits are transported from the distance land to be rebuilt and restored on site.
One can spend at least half a day here to cover the main building and the other two buildings nearby. On a nice day, the steps of the museum attracts many tourists running up and down pretending to be Rocky in training for the Heavyweight championship. There is a statue of Rocky on the bottom of the steps for selfie and picture.
First Sunday of the month is "Pay as you wish" day.
Staff is very helpful and well informed. One of the must see of the area.
Alan Karp
Amazing!!
Enormous precautions have been taken in order to avoid spread of Covid.
Was beautiful, clean, tons of art. Not too many people.
Will be back again, would reccomend to a friend.
Edward Zarkowski
HUGE museum. We had about 3-4 hours there and still felt like we had to rush to see it all. Too bad there is a fee to enter unlike museums in my hometown... but we got a small discount buying from our hotel instead. The Asian arts area is amazing and I wish we had started there to spend more time.
Entering via the "Rocky Steps" (east side) is a great touristy moment, but note there is a street level entrance on the north side of the building.
Fern Crossway
An expansive collection of art from Contemporary to Medieval. There are impressive room displays with elegant vintage furniture, an arms and armor exhibit featuring rare horse armor, and so much more. I absolutely loved the inclusion of wood work and architecture. If you are only visiting for a day, I would recommend mapping out which exhibits you'd most like to see to avoid being overwhelmed. There are pay what you want days every Wednesday evening and the first Sunday of every month, and admission is free for PA ACCESS or EBT cardholders. Students and seniors receive a discount, and anyone under 18 is free.
Lisa S
This could possibly be one of the most beautiful and cleanest art museums ever. The exhibits are extraordinary and so well maintained. I spent pretty much the whole day here because there is just so much to see. I will definitely come back again in the future.
Laura Missett
This place is amazing!! You can get up close and personal with all of your favorite art! The place is huge. Your ticket is good for two days, and you're going to need the whole two days. There are whole other buildings I never got to and I didn't make it all the way through the main building before they kicked me out for closing. I found a new artist I love, Paul Klee. There is something for everyone here. I really hate medieval european art, like okay I get it, you're religious. The little cafe was good for a quick refuel, but they didn't have a lot to choose from which can be tricky for people with food restrictions. My hip hurt really bad by the end of the day from all of the walking and standing, but they have plenty of seating that I just never took advantage of. The view of the grounds is beautiful and classic. Must go.
Mabel Salcedo
A bit hard to navigate through. Signs pointed in directions that ended up elsewhere which at times became irritating especially when trying to locate the cafe. The art was pleasant and pleasing to witness. Environment was extremely clean and hand sanitizer provided practically in every corner. I quite enjoyed my visit and felt time flew by even though we were there for quite sometime. I look forward to visiting again.
Juan Antonio Suarez
Wonderful museum. Has beautiful artistic creations and amazing historical artifacts. It's good to go on Saturday because the ticket is also good for Sunday. If you didn't make it all the way through the first time, like myself, you can go back on Sunday for more.
Joshua Hunger
This museum is HUGE! I had a lot of fun here and I've never been to an art museum quite like this one. The amount of pieces of art and artifacts they have is awesome and it's well displayed. Each wing is laid out with three paths to take which did make for some interesting navigation. I was awe struck by the massive gates and all of the recreations of rooms and even a small village. It is well worth the trip!
Carrie Wagler
Love this museum. The impressionist and contemporary work is some of the best anywhere. You could spend all day here, but I often just pop in for 2 hours or so. My favorite exhibit is in the very back of the contemporary section. Cy Twombly’s Fifty Days at Iliam. So, so beautiful!!
Y. Lu
I very much enjoyed this museum. It is slightly smaller than the Met but very well organized. I very much like the Asian and impressionist collections. Putting Islamic, Hindu and Chinese temples together in a line was very creative and beautiful.
Pace Weng
If you are a art lover, you will definitely love th collections here. Even if you just stop by here, the atmosphere and the STEPS are still lovely for all visitors. The entrance fee to the museum is $20 for two consecutive days and other nearby museum, which is a very nice deal!
Josh Jager
Always a nice trip. Be sure to take advantage of pay what you want Wednesday nights. They can sometimes be a little stingy about carrying backpacks or coats around or standing 6 inches too close to a painting, but overall a great place to visit.
Hemant Gaule
In a city which is otherwise predominantly depressing in its architecture and general infrastructure, this is a sight for sore eyes. The place is incredible in how large the columns and structures are. The rocky memorial is easily accessible on the east wing of the museum. You might find people offering to take photographs of you around the museum who are just looking for tips. If you go around spring you will find beautiful cherry blossoms around the museum .
Mx.Enigma
Get ready to walk baby, don’t tackle the whole
Museum in a day. Worth to check out the special exhibitions, contemporary and glass collection.
Brian Green
Went several years ago.unassuming building has a depth of art..esp late 19th century French. Rodin sculpture outside. Well worth visiting.
Marina Perez
Easy to (paid) park in the garage then walk into museum. Walk through sculpture garden as well. So much to see so pace yourself. The exhibits are easy to walk though and even though some places are under construction, there is fabulous works of art to appreciate
Tips are don't wear a backpack or any large item that you may bump people or back into precious artwork. The very polite staff will firmly suggest you wear your backpack in the front of you. This includes big purses. No walking around with a beverage or your snack. There is a well stocked cafe and restaurant to have refreshments. I had a great time!
Soletecuenta
I visited this museum on Sunday June 23th 2019 with my husband and my daughter. What we first saw nearby crossing the Kelly Drive and 25th street, was a very nice monument of Joan of Arc. Then, we could appreciate that there are some maintenance works going on the building, but nothing causing problems for visitors. When we got inside, a very nice lady sold us the tickets and kindly asked where we came from. Then, we were able to visit what we wanted. You can go and appreciate art in two different floors. On the first floor nearby the main entrance was the first part we decided to go in. The Museum has a very interesting and big presentation of impressionists. We find there, famous paintings by authors such as: Miró, Monet, Renoir, Degras, Van Gogh, and others. We went to the second floor to appreciate a display with the Drawing Room from Lansdowne House, which was very pretty. We also saw articles from Chinese dynasties and more paintings and sculptures. Both, the interior and the exterior of the building are really impressive. Everything is well prepared for the public, clean, nicely decorated and very clean. I strongly recommend visiting this place at least once in a lifetime. Big bravo to the entire staff, very nice people!

Art attraction in Philly
Visit by here in the business trip, but run into national holiday.
It's pitty that the museum is close and can't get in.
But it's impressive to recall Rocky's moive.
Lesley Parness
Saw Matisse exhibit. Wonderful. Love this Museum. Rocky Stairs entrance is closed, but you can still climb them
Maggie G
Although there was a long line to see the Matisse exhibit, it moved fairly quickly, and the rest of the museum was not that crowded. A lot of interesting exhibits there, and all the well-known artists are well represented here.
Andy Kauffman (Gleekop)
Love this museum! The armor exhibit is extraordinary, as is the amount of truly artistic Impressionist art. 2 Van Goughs!
Anna Gauthier
Great museum! They offered student discounts plus had a fashion exhibit featuring a lot of designers.
Outside of the museum is the famous Rocky statue, and around the museum closer to the back was the Mher Statue - an important person to the Armenian community.
The interior is very spacious and has a lot of great things to see. Some places you can easily miss such as the Japanese tea house all the way in the back. It was great.
Would spend 3-4 hours easily here if I had the time. I only got to see 75% of it. Would come back
Satish Kumar
I've never been to such a wonderful art museum. The art was so great you can't take your eyes off. One day is not enough to cover this if you want to deeply explore each art work. Must visit this place if you are in Philly.
Dakota Rose
It's gorgeous. You could spend an entire day in this museum and not get bored once. I've visited twice and would love to go again. The gift shop will make you want to spend all of your money (especially with the fashion exhibit they had when I was there).
Andrey Barbosa
It is an amazing place to whom love history and art. I loved. Plus, there are the steps from Rocky movie, that brings a lot of tourists to the front of the museum. Amazing experience. It is a beautiful experience to walk through the builiding and know better the history. They have a great staff and are very helpfull. The common area and equipment are in great conditions. It is a very nice place. It is a great opportunity to go with your family and/or friends. It is needed to pay and get into a line to get in. Very well located, there are many signs to help you to find the builiding. Choose days out of great crowds so you can enjoy it better. There are buses stop close to the place and where to park around the quarter too.
Marcel Fromhage
Always impressed with the size of the museum and the range of exhibitions it offers. From European Middle Ages through American History and Modern Art, Asian Art incl. a temple there is plenty to be explored and a day is not enough.
Scott Corcoran
Pay-what-you-want-Wednesdays and staying open late for us fluorescent light daytime dwellers is a great deal. I love this place regardless, whether I'm sledding down the steps in the winter on a trash can lid or taking someone on a date in the spring, or even just roaming alone out back in the summer garden (Anne d'Harnoncourt I believe), having a bad time here just doesn't seem possible.
The exhibits rotate often enough that it stays interesting, there are a multitude of famous paintings, or works by famous artists, or amazing works by lesser-known artists, and the setup of some areas is just visually stunning as you walk in.
If you've never been, you're missing out.
Lisa Kelly
So much to see and do. We went on a pay as you wish day. There were fun interactive activities for the kids as well as a live musical performance. Kids also had fun running up the "Rocky" steps! Enjoyed it so much we will be back after the holidays. Enjoyed a snack in the cafe, little pricey but not outrageous. Really appreciated the diverse mediums. Highly recommend.
Benjamin Swanson
This museum is one of the highest in quality that I have visited in the last few years. The exhibits are updated frequently and the facility is stunning. When I went I saw many original paintings that were stunning. The price is not very cheap but if you appreciate art then you will definitely enjoy your time here.

You love to see it 🤩🤩 When the Young Friends of Philadelphia Art Museum throw an event, you don’t want to miss it!
At the annual YFPAM Fall Into Art Gala, there is a lot to see from people dressed to the nines and all the art work that the museum has on display.
This review is long overdue for the 2019 gala, but I would like to highlight that going to a museum at night time is a must, especially if there’s an open bar!
The next event will be in November 2020 and I hope to see you all there!
NJ Riff-Guitarist
Very beautiful museum with a wide range of works of art to see. There even are works from famous artists like Monet, Van Gogh, and Picasso! You must visit this museum if you're in Philly!
Simon Greene
I can't speak to the inside as I've never been in but I've been up and down the steps 100 times and meet people here all the time. It's a beautiful part of the city worth a look
Amanda Smith
Truly amazing collection and with such a wide variety there is something for everyone here. The building itself is absolutely beautiful. If you only have a few hours, I highly recommend one of the free tours.
MarioKartFan65
This is the best art museum I've ever been to in the United States. I could spend several days here and still be looking for more. Everyone was helpful and was able to share so much good information about all the exhibits. This was the highlight of my trip to Philadelphia.
J Z
They rebuilt an Asian village, Middle Ages Church, rooms from most parts or history. The Friday night we went we had the fashion exhibit there with dancers, free tea and painting. I always love the ancient weapons and armor section as the Craftsman ship is always amazing. Then all the Monet and a few Van Gogh's round out one of the best American Art museums in America. They have something for everyone!
Michael Lidell
The Philadelphia Museum of Art has an excellent collection of American, European, and Asian artwork. The exhibit of masterpieces by Thomas Eakins is especially noteworthy.
SOHINI's Kitchen
One of the best art museums I’ve ever been to. It had different forms of art and artifacts collected from almost all the major areas of history, beautifully displayed to awe the visitors. So well maintained and organized, just can’t imagine any better way to do that.
Timothy Dingman
Admission is $25 but it's a two day pass and includes admission to several other art venues. Amazing pieces in a building that was purpose built to showcase the art. Every gallery ends with a doorway that frames a piece in the next room and invites you in.
MMX XWW

Dawn L. Troupe
I found Emma Amos here and my inspiration to paint has been reignited. Here are a few of my favorite from a couple trips. Fridays are pay what you can.
Benjamin Schwantes
Impressive museum with large permanent collection and interesting temporary exhibitions. Helpful staff. Numerous food options. Get timed tickets online in advance to avoid waiting in line during busy periods. On-site parking with discounts for visitors.
Dana Ze Bunster
Amazing art, beautiful space. Every single person we interacted with was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. As the docent who welcomed us recommended, we started on the top floor and worked our way down. Not to be missed: the Japanese temple, ceramics, expressionists & impressions.
Highlight was Van Gogh's Sunflowers.
L LUCI
Great place to spend time. 3 floors so allow time. Very informative. Staff is helpful and pleasant.
Michael Donnelly
If you live anywhere near Philadelphia, you should visit this world-class museum. Even if you know nothing about art, you are guaranteed to get an education. The permanent collection is amazing but don't forget to check out their temporary exhibits.
Nafis Fuad Shad
Great place. There’s a lot see around. you can enjoy the city view from the front and at the back you can see the river and there’s some food place too. so overall great place.
William
Can’t really comment on the inside but the outside is beautiful l. And of course the Rocky steps were cool to run up. Beautiful statues all around.
Sagar Sinha
I'm writing from a perspective of a complete novice when it comes to any form of art. I had been wanting to visit the Museum for a long time now just on the basis of how grand it looked from the outside. This Friday I actually found some time to check it out and all I can say is that it's completely worth your time. I was not bored for a minute. There are a lot of paintings in there that I didn't get but through simple explanations on the rest I found myself very appreciative of the artwork of painters like Picasso, Duchamp, Rousseau and many others. The entire collection of European and American paintings is pleasing to see. The British and American culture displayed through lifestyles on the second floor of the main building just left me in awe. I had never seen anything like it before.
Make sure you have at least 4-5 hours or the next day to check out this great place in it's entirety! (yes, tickets are valid for 2 days) And any students reading this, you can become a member for a year for just $20. Also, you can bring in a guest for just $10, maximum guests allowed is 10.
Sonali Hutson Enterprises, LLC
Love park! The city of brotherly love! Always great to see the diversity in Philly! Love sign is a great tradition for us when we come home to visit.
Andrew McCauley
Had to go for the Rocky Steps…. Unfortunately it was closed when we were there… but beautiful surrounds and gardens
edouard g
Another impressive collection of european art. Love the Monet paintings, they have more than the the Met in NY. The architecture transplants from Europe and Asia are well replaced, and it is a pleasure to walk throught the doors, portals or go around the closter.
Priyanka Rajwar
Beautiful structure and the landscaping around the area is also very well done. The famous movie rocky shows the lead Sylvester Stallone running up these very stairs and got can see People doing the same. There's Rocky Balboa so statue there too where countless tourists strike Poses. Behind the musuem one can see a lot of art installations spread across the lawns too.
Worth visiting
linda roberts
We went during the Christmas break. It was awesome. I hadn't been to the museum in years.
Jeff Dugan
It is incredible how large this museum truly is. It’s easy to lose yourself here for hours on end without having to rehash anything. The first Sunday of every month is ‘Pay What You Wish’, but I do recommend getting their early as there’s a line out the door by noon. The first floor has a lot of the ‘hits’ but the second floor has some incredible exhibits with full scale recreations of historical buildings, cloisters, etc. One of the must dos in Philadelphia
German A Aristizabal
Magnificent. You'll need more than 1 day to visit this wonderful museum. No worries, tickets are valid for 2 consecutive days and Fridays, it's open until late.
Mia Hawkins
Always enjoy ourselves at the museum. Very clean and well maintained. Beautiful artwork and exhibits. Ample parking.
Otto
Great place to visit, make sure to see all the Exhibits. You need at least 2 hours to go through everything.
Chris Wells
Thank you for the amazing experience. I have not been to the museum in over 30 years. So happy to be back. Filled me with joy to see the Scully exhibit.
gunjita joshi
Great place for an art lover.. do check out timing before visit and take some good pictures on Rocky steps
P.
You have to walk up the Rocky Steps (from the movies) to get inside. It's 94 degrees today: 6/28/19. I saved the $20 entrance fee since I'm a member of San Francisco's SFMOMA! It pays to belong to museums that have reciprocal memberships! I used the savings to eat in their restaurant. Tom, the operations manager in the restaurant and cafe was so friendly and kind. He was so knowledgeable and helpful with his explanations of the differences in the burgers in the cafe vs their restaurant. My waiter was great too. Knowledgeable and personable. The greaeter lady was very nice and accommodating, & I appreciated that. Tom had the chef come over to see me. He delivered the great banana bread pudding dessert. The chef was very polite and gracious, & everyone on staff is handsome and slim! I'll write more soon about this amazing world class museum.
Ben Gunawan
I like my experience coming here. The museum has great architecture and many famous masterpieces (Picasso, Cezanne, van Gogh, Delacroix, etc.)
Paola Sanchez
Impressive! You’ll need a week to see it all! But the tickets work for 2 days ;)
J VG
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is fantastic! Take the time to read the captions and you will discover and learn so much. Beautiful artwork, stunning statues, amazing artifacts, and Rocky Balboa. I was there for 3 hours and didn't see everything so plan on a longer tour if you are going to read the captions which will greatly enhance your experience and enlighten you. The Spinx, Africa, Mexico, and Central America will be added in November.
Ken C
Lots of things to see and tons to explore! An absolute steal on pay as you wish nights if you like art. The Philadelphia Museum of Art has a wide collection of art from around the world. They have exhibits dedicated to Asian arts, Europe, medieval arms, and American history.
Trevor Guilday
The art museum is a must-see attraction if you’re in Philadelphia. Almost always an interesting exhibit on rotation. The architecture of the building is a piece of art in itself. Lots of nice places to walk around outside of the museum as well. Run up the Rocky Stairs if you’re up for it!
Holly Dawn Hewlett
I love this place, Philly is my home town. I have spent many hours walking this magnificent building. I brought my fiance here as she loves art and is creative. Give yourself at least two days to experience the museum. Truly, trust me, your body and mind will thank you.
Alina Didok
Always an amazing time whenever I go! I always end up seeing something new! Of course I have to visit my favorite artists as well but it’s nice to be refreshed with certain things that I forgot they had! Staff is always nice and courteous. Beautiful museum, I always take my friends/family who come to visit Philadelphia.
Sharon Kachel
Various types of art and fresh fruit is available! Beautiful experience with my family to celebrate my birthday 🥳 …
Anoj Aryal
One of the must visit places when you are in Philadelphia. This museum includes notable art and cultures not only of Western world but also of Asia. One day won’t be enough if you wish to see all the notable paintings, sculptures or the photographs that are in the museum. Also, don’t forget to take a picture on the Rocky statue in his unique style. Be prepared to be in a line as this place is mostly crowded with visitors. Every Wednesday and the first Sunday of month are pay as you wish days for the museum entry. Also, they are offering two day pass so that you can fully enjoy the museum’s facilities.
Lulu Lin
Must visit spot in Philadelphia!!! Lots of great arts with different subjects, contemporary and modern including Vangual ,Picasso ,Monet .....
Also American art, early Europium , the India temple recreation just unbelievable, they even have a Japanese tea house, I’m a huge art lover, Philadelphia art museum is one of the most inspiring one .
Recommend to come on Thursday do a two day tickets, they often has concerts on Friday, if buy the ticket on Thursday, you get to go the concert and to Rodin museums also for free, 3in 1 for only 20 /adults What a deal !
For small budget, come on Wednesday night is pay as you wish , also a good chance to explore the fine arts, for 2-3hr, but if you got the time , this is the money worth to spend!!
Christopher Jacobs
Have fond memories of this museum as a kid. Always on the schedule to stop at this location and enjoy the art and all of the sites and sounds around the museum. Love to see people running up the steps like Rocky! Getting to the Rocky statue has gotten a little complicated but worth the wait.
Leticia Amorim
The museum is huge and a beautiful place to spend some time. I do not understand a lot about art but I love museum in general.
Everything is very good organized and you can find yourself easily.
The rooms are numbered and there are a lot of staff everywhere if you have any questions.
Very good experience!
Cory Hill
Amazing. It had great exhibits, awesome architecture and not enough time to see it all. Will be going back often.
Jc Park
Absolutely the best museum! The architecture itself is the beauty and the collections are wonderful. We went there on Friday evening and it was not crowded as we expected.
Kelly Grimes
The newly renovated sections are BEAUTIFUL! I felt like I was in the museum for the first time all over again! And everyone is so helpful and friendly.
Marla Campbell Harris
Went to catch the New Grit (Philly Artist Now)exhibit before it closed. So glad I didn't miss it. The representation of homegrown artist in mixed mediums was wonderful to experience. I was introduced to the work of some while revisiting the work of others.
Exceptional covid-19 compliance if being indoors gives you pause. Pro tip: Get tickets in advance. Even if you are running late or miss your time still head over, you will most likely still gain entry. And if you are and Access/EBT card holder tickets are free for a max of 4 people (card and matching ID may be requested).
Natalia Rezende
Such a beautiful space. Loved the exhibitions and different styles.
Husein Lokhandwala
Simply an extraordinary Museum. Grand in almost every way, from the large towering stairs, the ornate fountain and the 14 ft gilded statue Diana, the Philadelphia Museum of Art offers a lot to see and more to take in.
The permanent collections are stellar especially the work of baroque and renaissance masters. The Asian Art offers some beautiful tableaux reconstructed like an Indian temple and the Japanese Tea garden.
While mostly art through the centuries, the contemporary side of things is also quite comprehensive.
For the price of admission you get access to three museums including the Rodin sculpture garden, which is valid for two days. While littered with tourists obnoxiously recreating the the Rocky stair motif, the museum is a must visit for more than just that sparse insta worthy pop culture reference. It’s great hallmark of the preservation of our history and culture akin to the National Gallery in DC and Met in NYC. And sure, you also can run up the stairs to “gonna fly now” and hop up and down jubilantly to remember a pretty iconic scene!
Millie Kwan
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a fabulous museum. The permanent collection has some great pieces as evidenced by the exhibits that are bright together from within the museum as well as special exhibitions that are really fantastic. They are currently renovating parts of the museum so I look forward to seeing what it looks like when they are complete. If you live locally in Philadelphia and enjoy at museums, I would highly recommend a membership as it also allows access to the Rodin Museum down the street and also access to other museums across the nation. Parking is available in the deck behind the museum and is underground. Very convenient.
Mark Nichols
Having grown up in the area, there is nothing more iconic or meaningful in Philadelphia than this titan of a museum. It may very well be the influence that started me painting in the first place. My nom de plume originates from Marcel Duchamp, an artist with a large presence at the museum ( biggest in the world, I think). I have been coming here for at least 25 years and the North entrance opening was one of the most exciting things for me. Its high, glittering, vaulted ceilings and adorable little espresso bar were a destination themselves. And it coincided with a "designs of the future" exhibit that has this video about the technology of Grindr and it was strange to watch among many straight people. It felt like it was giving up our secrets. I loved it though. It made me think about how gay people have advanced technology and that is just fabulous
Bruce Rivera
Fun place to visit with rhe family, Rocky statue outside and the steps but don't forgetbto go inside and che k out some of the great exhibitions on display.
Andrea Maciolek
The best museum in Philadelphia. From Van Gogh's sunflower, to running up the Rocky movie steps, this museum is fun for the whole family.
Ho Amy
Huge museums with big collections
Live music inside museum after 5.30pm. you.can choose to sit freely to enjoy or take a table with drinks and food. The day I was there the musician sing beautifully.
Khusravbek Murodov
Wonderful and great Museum.
Jasper Johns Show.
Bookstore and Souvenirs.
Cafe and restaurant.
Dan Colgan
I have not been to this museum in a long time. Love the changes they are making and the art looked spectacular.
Komlan Avoulete
I am a member of the Art Museum and I love it. The building, the area, and all the galleries. I wish they have a gallery dedicated to African Art like The art museum of Virginia has it. No matter what it’s Nice place to visit when you are in Philly. You cannot miss it.
Lindsay Watkins
I'm not sure how I grew up in Central PA and never made it to this museum until yesterday! It's AMAZING. Beautiful building, galleries, and so, so much art. 5 hours wasn't enough, and I wish we hadn't been flying out this morning so we could have taken advantage of the second day of entry the ticket allows (this is a really great feature). I'd recommend planning a visit over 2 days to truly appreciate everything.
Vicky's Expedition
One of the most memorable museums..don't forget to climb the rocky steps..
Steven Hamm
And home of the Rocky stairs. A great gathering place day and night. Excellent sculptures inside and outside. The Washington tribute sculpture in front is a must see.
Alex Revekko
Amazing museum to visit has a lot of amazing paintings and old historic artifacts to see. Reminds me of a smaller version of the Met.
Ruth
We had a wonderful time at the museum. Beautiful art and great exhibits. Cannot see all in one day. Will be back again.
Vikas Kapil
Rich historical place , needs some up keeping in terms of cleanness
Brian Hagan
Gotta love pretending to be Rocky by getting winded up all these steps! Side not: beautiful architecture. Wish we would have had time to go inside, definitely want to come back.
N -
Good variety of different styles of art. There are furnitures and tableware available to see. Many informational texts throughout and there is even a modern art exhibit. Multiple levels, so your admission is valid for two days. First Sunday of the month is pay as you please. Fridays after 5 are reduced rate.
jill king

If u have visitor and have memebership , entrance fee to $10. For art lovers, it be worth it. We are planning to purchase the membership for 2.
Robert Hauge
The building itself is a work of art inside, very Grand and humbling. Amazing spectrum of art from America colonial period, ancient Asia and contemporary impressionists. Wonderful works of art from different cultures that are well preserved and impressive by any standards.
Added bonus, is that the tickets are good for two consecutive days at only $25 a piece for adults
Definitely recommend to anyone who has not been.
Julie Weck
Loved this museum, the only thing I would complain about is the way they organized the special showing. Very disorganized, with insanely long lines- total Covid brewing mix. We decided not to stay in line and just to tour the rest of the museum.
Curtis Kleier
Yes it really is worth it. Run up the Rocky steps but don't forget to go inside. Touring the entire museum in a day is impossible. If you are an artists or a teacher they have discounted membership. Hop over to the other buildings and continue a tour.
Robert Hendy
Not typically an art museum fan... But there is quite a bit to see! First, the Rocky steps! Once inside, there is a massive amount of space to see classic Monets, Picasso, etc. Go Upstairs and you find a huge collection of armor, Asian temples, a tea house etc.
Really a great experience! They are closed most Mondays.
Helen V
A few years ago came to the center city to spend the day visiting the museum not knowing what would b the exibition. Man, was i floored! It was about S.Korea and their culture , Joseon period. It was amazing! I was able to finally understand some of the stuff that have been watching on my kdramas. I knew some of it but with their English explanation, it was fantastic! To make it even better, cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
Update: beautiful day to enjoy the scenery
Varun Srinivasan
Great collection, especially loved the Impressions. The Diana statue is a striking addition, although I would have preferred that it stayed at MSG where I could see it everyday.
The main cafe deserves a special mention - first time I got good food from a museum's cafe.
Ellie G
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a vast museum full of beautiful pieces of artwork. Paintings to sculptures to pottery, the artists range from Eva Hesse to Van Gogh, and even though some pieces are more known than others, all of them are beautiful. And lunch is delicious,
from the comfortable cafe to the splendid restaurant, the food is to die for! Every single exhibit is beautiful! Will come again!
Dina
One of the best art museums I have been to! Wednesday’s are pay as you wish starting 5 PM
Great place to enjoy various works of art ...I think one needs 3 hours or more to be able to see and take in everything ...I liked how they provide a booklet for kids to draw and express themselves through the paintings they see... it may be a bit tiering for small kids but they do have a play area on the second floor where kids can sit to build with Legos and draw
Ted Driver
When you get a chance to visit a world class museum, you have to take it, even if just for a few hours. The collections here are from around the world and are displayed in inspiring ways. My personal favorites are the Monets, but the Asian collection really took be by surprise, I learned so much! Take a few hours and see what the museum can teach you - it's worth it.
sshenk77
EXTRAORDINARY! This museum is breathtaking, and the value is terrific compared to museums this size in New York. They offer $15 student tickets with valid school ID. We especially loved the colonial portraits and the giant European tapestries!
Salman Khan
Much bigger than I thought it’d be - a lot of beautiful art and beautiful rooms
Randy Welch
I have mad love for the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Although my true love is the Met in NYC, this place still touches my heart. Especially their collection of Cy Twombly paintings. It’s also nice that they offer pay as you want on Wednesday 5p-845p and the first Sunday of each month from 10a-5p. They have a nice assortment of both historic and contemporary art. There are two gift shops that have copies of some of the art works you may love and plenty of books about art and individual artists. It’s a great place to take your family to get some much needed culture to feed your soul. I’m partial to the Wednesday nights not because the cost can be reduced, but because there’s something cool about art after dark.
Max Makhnyk
Just outside of the Philadelphia museum of art, the area is known for the "Rocky" steps. Lots of people in front running up the stairs. The area is very beautiful and big. The museum itself was fantastic! It had so many different and unique things to look at, from early European art to mid century European art to medieval Armour and early colonial art. It's not just photos and paintings, plenty of actual physical objects. Takes about 6 hours if you go through detail by detail quickly. You can knock it out in 2 hours if you just walk by. $20 per adult.
Sara Bauer
A stunning art museum full of grandeur and marvelous art pieces. You could easily spend multiple hours in this museum and it would be worth it! They have a great variety of classical art and more modern pieces. The art museum gift shop also has many options for souvenirs for yourself or family members. I specifically loved the children's section.
Shawn Selch
Very nice museum lots of great art. Cool special attactions. Rocky statue is there. You can run up the steps and pretend your Rocky from the movie
Leonardo Nunes Ricucci
One of the best things to do in Philly, I came here because of the stairs and the Rocky statue, and I got one of the greatest surprises I've had. This museum is filled with amazing art from different Art Periods. And the second floor has period pieces where entire rooms are made as iff a Chinese temple or a small Japanese village or an old Church GREAT PLACES!
Michael Machado
Stunning and Amazing are just two words that first come to mind. Besides the the major pieces of Art by many Masters they designed the initial building to house and withstand the weight of complete rooms of Ancient Architecture. The Courtyard, Japanese Tea House and Church front are the Actual wood, stone and clay. Entire rooms including some floors are on the second floor of the Museum. This a Must See. You will not regret the spent.
Pocholo Espina
Great place. Great art. Very funny to see people lining up more by the rocky statue though 😂 …
Ahmet Selcuk Can
Top notch Museum of Art. Contemporary and classical art work are displayed. I recommend museum tour. Guides are knowledgeable and answer the most difficult questions. Tickets are valid for two days. You can easily spend two days in this Museum.
Topher Ellis
Philadelphia Museum of Art is worth visiting when you come to see the "Rocky Steps" and Rocky Statue. Its not often that you or your kids will get to see real Monel, van Gogh, Picasso, Dali or Cezanne. The admission price is not much and on some days its free. But definitely worth it. I'm not a fan of the layout as it guides you away from some rooms and we had to go back in circles to make sure we saw most of the collection. van Gogh and Monet and Dali were my favs and it was nice to see younger generation really get into Dali. One point i must make is that the staff is definitely not very friendly. It must be a Philly thing but boy, where they miserable bunch. Someone asked me if there is food in there... i'm not sure, and i'm not sure if you'd want to bring food into a museum, however, there are tons of food trucks at the bottom of the stairs with all kinds of good treats. Bring your camera and capture some great memories, as some museums do not allow cameras... this one does.
Tati K.
One of my favorite musiems!! Take your time..become a member come many times...so much to see . ..I always find something new every time I come in!
E L W
We have been many times but on our most recent visit, the steps are always EPIC...lol...great location for a photoshoot.. ( @paris.thedragon on Instagram )
The vibe is always cheerful with all kinds of positive energy from a diverse group of people....Best Art Museum on the Planet!!
Rc Wu
Worth the ticket price. Good experience and not crowded.
Tauheed Salahuddin
Great place to spend the day at. Amazing exhibits. You can truly get lost in there.
Sabrina Free
I guess I haven't been in awhile cuz I was surprised to see the Rocky statue wasn't at the top of the steps. Tourists are gonna miss out on running up the steps then doing the Rocky pose. Lol
Annie Li
The art museum is perfect, but I only have half an hour to stay here.
E Savaria Jr
Wow, they really did a great job with the renovations. The Philly artist exhibition was something that should have been done a long time ago. Thank you whoever pushed that through. The museum elevator photo is available for hanging at the museum. Contact me!
Lamont Truong
Just took the outside. It's nice on the inside but I havent went in yet. Here's some great structural. If you're visiting and u love art, go check it out
Ronize Cerqueira Pinto
The Philadelphia arts museum is simply amazing. It has a vast collection of arts. Among them, paintings by the French painter Henri Matisse and a painting by Vincent Van Gogh Sunflowers (of the 7 around the world). A ride for all ages.
Robin Findley
Very beautiful day to spend here. Recommended!!
Christa L (American Girl Doll)
So much fun from the outside alone. Run up the Iconic steps just like Rocky did. Inside is spectacular. A must see while visiting Philadelphia
Srikanth Srinivasamadhavan
Awesome place... Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh , Renoir
