We visited this farm on a week day and it was little crowded. the farm is very well maintained. Ticket for one adult costs 17$. They have well maintained Restrooms at the visitor center. They have ample of parking which is complementary. What to expect? Few events like milking cow, info on sheep's and able to pet them. You can see small animal barn, horses stables, sheep barns. They do have cafe inside we liked the pumpkin ice-cream.

This is set on a beautiful piece of land. The museum is very well done with interesting displays and plenty of information to accompany the displays. You can also go to the barn to see the cows. Another smaller area has the small animals and the horses are outside. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the animals and their young. We had a fun and interesting visit. Definitely recommend.

I absolutely loved my visit here! The cows were so sweet, the farm was really pretty and there were a lot of interesting and educational things to do. We went during the Harvest Festival, and Billings Farm did a great job organizing it, and making it interactive and fun. I'll definitely be coming back at some point.

So much informative interactive fun with the Jersey cows . Arrived @ milking time , lovely host walked us thru the process ,girls milking told us 7 min to milk cow by machine, 1/2 hr by hand!Sanitize hands is a must and able to pet sweet calves was educating experience. Grounds are gorgeous, goats are Baaing all along fence following your steps.Gift shop inside was decorated , festive, staff friendly.This is a must stop for city adults and esp with kids !Had so much fun with staff , animals, soaking farms ambience and sweeping views.

Loved this farm. Though I live in a rural area with lots of farms, I thought this place was very interesting and cows were so cute. Maps of the place are available and there is lots of panels to tell you what you can visit. Cows are used to the public and you can pet them. Bought some cheddar as well and it tasted good.

A fantastic place to learn about Woodstock and three very prominent figures in its history. The free 30 minute video in the museum is absolutely worth it and the miles of trails and mansion grounds across the street are beautiful. You can pay for access to the museum and the mansions or take advantage of all the free offerings (including free first flour viewings of the mansion on weekends).

Loved the cows!!! Came here Saturday, October 15 with my family. My 3 year old loves a spanish cow nursery song and when she saw the cows she started to sing! We parked across the main farm parking and went to a nearby pen and a herd came to us. They thought we were going to feed them. The cows were very friendly and curious and stayed near us for a good amount of time. This became my 3 year olds highlight of our Vermont trip! I highly recommend coming to Billings Farm to feed cows and other livestock and see farm life!

The museum has a lot of exhibits perfect for children. There is a bathroom and water filling station. There is a park ranger who is very helpful. The trails nearby are easy to moderate and well marked.

This is such a cute place for a half day trip. We went there on a break during our ski trip and spend a few hours there. The stuff are so nice and informative. The animals are cute and the history there is interesting. I highly recomand this place. Very close to the ski area.

Working farm with ancient history of super wealthy taking and giving back in philanthropy, and conservation, cows and sheep to visit. You can walk through the home which is interesting. It starts with a 15 minute film which was professionally done. Overall good but a little pricey.

Charming working farm with lots of activities for kids. The goats were wonderful. Be sure to wear "farm friendly" shoes & comfy clothing, nothing fancy! Homemade products for sale, a museum, very helpful & friendly staff. A very enjoyable way to spend the day with family.

There’s so much history to The Farm manager’s 1800’s house. The guide is absolutely a gem who so passionately asked and answered questions. Love how she brings herself to do it on every tour.

Nice place to visit with kids! Plenty of parking. You can cover museum that will take you back in time, Farm with Animals, Apple trees, etc. anyone can spend about 2+hrs here. There is shop inside to buy ice creams, coffee, donuts … few kids activities as well. No complaints 👍🏻

Wonderful place to show you how farm works. Everything maintained clean and professional, including Cow, goat, sheep, horse, variety of plants. I especially like the farm museum within the visitor center, which exhibited how farmers worked 200 years ago. The short documentary film, "A Place in the Land", is shown daily at the visitor center. It introduced the story of George Perkins Marsh, Frederick Billings, and Laurance Rockefeller, who were successive residents of the estate, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short.

Staff was extra friendly and knowledgeable, and the exhibits were varied, so they kept me engaged. They gave info on the people, land, industries, etc. The video at the start was very well done ( I've seen a lot of museum videos, and most are terrible. But this is an award-winning documentary). And they also have hands-on demonstrations, a dairy bar with snacks, a really good gift shop, and lots of great scenery to admire.

Somewhat disappointed in that the gardens were not as big as last time we visited. However, the museum upstairs in the main entrance building is a great display of farming tools etc of the past. And the cows are always great

Wow! Exceeded our expectations! We anticipated that we would just be seeing a working farm with some demonstrations about farm life. We were wrong. Yes, it is that but so much more. What was also impressive was the history that occurred on this site and the huge impact on the future of forestry and agriculture. The totally restored buildings for beautiful but also works of ingenuity showcasing state of the art technology for its time. The museum was extremely well furnished and up to date with high quality exhibits throughout. Again, it greatly exceeded our expectations. While we were there, they even had demonstrations of some of the crafts associated with the historical period. We were able to see the creation / making of felt and creating finished felt products. Also for demonstration was a loom for making fabric. While we didn't sample any of it, on the premise is a creamery wear people can buy ice cream and creamery goods made from the milk of the Jersey cows on this organic farm. I highly recommend this for people of all ages from age to to 99 (although centenarians would also find the Billings farm and museum interesting also 😉).

If you love cows, you'll LOVE this place. I'm sure there's so much more museum-wise but I was very content just being up close and petting all the cows, even the babies! It's also a beautiful place to walk around.

I went to this farm with my friends Lutie and Lydia to see a quilt show competition. The quilts were amazing, but we didn't see much of the farm. I was intrigued by the Mansion and the cows that I saw. This just means that I need to visit again. I voted the quilt below as my favourite because it was done by hand.

The farm has a lot to offer and places to explore. Wonderful for kids, a first date, or even a comfortable scenic walk. Close to the town of Woodstock, you could technically walk to the location, and it’s a beautiful walk too. The farm has everything from cows, sheep, horses, and chickens. There is a wide range of animals to watch, and interact with. The staff is kind and helpful. Again, I love bringing my kids here. Also, check out the ice cream, it’s delicious. This is not a place you can just come to once. I feel you need to visit a few times to take everything in. There are subtle details, from the rock walls, and landscaping that pop out over time, the landscape here ever changing as well. We come about once a month. Once you are ready, go into town and grab a bite to eat, or visit a bookstore. Again, the walk is beautiful.

We brought a 2.5 year old who loved it (we did as well). Every step of the way we found fun little areas to explore. Also, the staff was generous and friendly with their time and expertise. We got some root beer floats and cider donuts. The donuts didn’t taste very fresh, but the floats were amazing.

Such a cool place! We went for Christmas at the farm and got a sleigh ride as well as to make a mini mince pie and dip our own candle. Got to pet cows and goats as well! So fun and very awesome to learn the history

An absolutely delightful experience. Extremely Covid friendly. The staff could not be nicer or more accommodating and genuinely want you to have the best time. Cool and interesting museum as well as interactive farm where you can pet the animals. Nice little gift shop with cheeses, honey, etc. Overall a really nice time for all ages.

Outstanding working farm/museum My family had a wonderful visit to this working farm/museum. Every person we interacted with at the farm was informative and hospitable -- from the person who sold us our tickets to the people in the dairy to the people working in the house. I particularly liked how the wagon ride is INCLUDED in admission. We had a great time, loved the gift shop, and learned quite a bit about late 19th century cutting edge technology.

Interesting glimpse into the history of this farm. We really enjoyed exploring on our own and taking time to learn some of the history from the various guides, which were all very friendly and knowledgeable. Great that it's still a working farm and wish we had got more of the butter cheese which is amazing!

So we were a little worried by the $16 admission fee, but by the end of the museum tour, the barn and cow tour, the milking demonstration and the farm managers house tour, we certainly felt as though we got our money's worth and then some. The museum is a walk through history of dairy farming in Vermont and was very detailed and well presented. The farm managers home was also well maintained and the presenters were very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend for history seekers and kids alike.

My son and I stopped by and I was a little disappointed that they weren't more handicapped friendly. So we just visited the gift shop and left. That's why I'm only giving it 4 stars and I don't have photos. It looks really cool though. I would highly recommend it for families, especially for kids 12 and under. They have a lot of fun activities and the gift shop has really cool things in it.

Loved visiting Billings Farm! Perfect mix of museum and actually seeing the farm animals. Staff are knowledgeable and kind, always willing to answer questions and clearly passionate about their work. Very kid-friendly but also entertaining for adults. Great history included. It's nice how close it is to Woodstock so very convenient if you're staying there. Also right next to the start of the Mount Tom hiking trail. I especially enjoyed seeing the newborn cows! Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!

What a fun way to check out the rich history of Woodstock. The staff was very friendly, welcoming and informative. Loved checking out the newborn cows. Plus getting to see the history of the farm was really cool. They do such a good job of displaying the history in an informative and interactive way. My wife and I will be back when our little one is older

Great exhibit / video telling you the history of the farm. Tons of beautiful spaces to explore a and walk around, meeting the different farm animals. They have dairy cows, sheep, horses, and chickens. Try the cheddar from their gift-shop, you won't be disappointed!

A great visit - the hands on experiences with animals were great and the displays were very kid friendly. We enjoyed seeing the calves, the cows, the goats, the chickens and the sheep. The girls loved the house and the laminated sheets that gave them details about certain parts. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. We right along a picnic lunch to eat - lots of picnic tables. Tons of trash cans on site and a water refill station was available. We definitely recommend this as a stop for families in the area!

I went with my grandchildren ages 6 and 8. We all had a wonderful day. They were able to pet the animals, see a 1 day old calf, let the older calf lick them, and run around with some other kids. The finishing touch was the ice cream cones made from the farms own ice cream.

Woodstock Vermont is worth visiting just to see Billings Farm. The most beautiful Jersey Cows you have ever seen.. not just my opinion, literally the cows are show cows and win competitions. The cows have been breed from a long line of elite Jersey Cows that go back over 100 years to the Rockefeller! Weather you are 6 or 60 you will enjoy this farm/ museum.

It's a gorgeous farm, but way over priced. There isn't much to do farm wise. No picking of any kind and regular farm animals you can see for free at many other farms. The main attraction is the museum, which is very nice but mostly for adults.

Nice place to spend a day, the museum is really interesting, the buter cheese is really good. They have around 40 cows that you can see even when they are milking. Really nice. And of course don't forget the ice cream, really good.

Great place to visit for an intergenerational group. Kids will love the cows and other farm animals. Adults will appreciate the well-organized exhibits and learn a lot about the agrarian roots of Vermont life 100-150 years ago. Well worth a 3 hour visit.

This place is really cool. I love that they actually care for these animals that are on their property. They allow you to pet them and as hundreds of questions..lol. Thank you for not getting annoyed with me. Milking the heifers is at 3:30 we were a little early but stick around to watch how they do it. All the animals of the property actually have names 💜it

What a wonderfully pleasant and educational place! Enjoy the gardens, animals, and exhibits. Things change seasonally, of course (we adored the Sunflower House and quilt exhibit at our last visit), but there's always something interesting to see. The staff is very knowledgeable if you have any questions, and they're doing a great job of taking precautions around COVID-19. Worth a trip, for sure!

Can't comment specifically on the museum. We went there to use the hiking trails which were nice and good for any level of hiking. If your looking for a traditional hiking trail with difficulty, then you would not be happy with these. Beautiful views.

Cool place- admission is kind of expensive for what it is - went for wassil weekend with our infant and they offered food items for sale but we were required to eat them outside as it was raining and turning into slushy snow - no ya les or blocked Off area to make feeding an infant and 30 degree rainy/snow weather easy. Events that were special for the weekend ie: candle dipping was a nightmare and they protocol in place due to covid made the process take forever and involved walking around a table several times that everyone doing the activity was getting motion sickness. Not very accommodating of strollers. Covid policies were extreme even for those who were vaxxed which really ruined our ability to enjoy the fame To its fullest. Ie: being able to eat our snacks indoors and not get wet with our baby. Being able to breath in a place were we had to lug strollers up stairs and curbs due to wearing a mask and overall causing the facility to be more crowded as no one wanted to get wet but there were only 12 people allowed to Candle dip. Maybe we will try again in the summer but do not go in the winter especially in a pandemic if you want to enjoy yourself if you have a little ones in strollers forget it because the accessibility of the whole place was a nightmare my spouse child and I ended up being cold, wet, tired and irritable after and it ruined our trip as that was what we were most looking forward to (a trip to Billings)

Wonderful day out combining this museum with the neighboring national park. Highlights were petting baby cows, lovely museum with history of the farm and the farm managers house. The farm managers house featured early indoor plumbing was very neat to see.

C'mon ... Does this place really require another review? Everyone knows that this is a world class experience. No matter how often one goes, there is always something new and exciting. A family can easily spend an entire day there. A stroll through the parking lot to or from your vehicle proves by the variety of license plates that the place is sought from far and wide.

Great working farm to visit. The free cheese samples were delicious! It was really cool to see the baby goats and lambs that were only a few months old. A must visit especially to see the sheep herding demonstrations.

A must see! There is so much to do and learn about at Billings Farm. My husband and I went on a whim and it did not disappoint! We walked through the barns, gardens, museum, and farm Manager's home ( which was restored to it's original design). Had ice cream, cheese, and crackers afterwards in their picnic area. Can't wait to being our son back with us next time! Greateta place for an inexpensive family trip!

If you are looking for a variety of light to moderate hiking trails, with several nice viewpoints and a beautiful pond, this is it. Most trails are wide and graded with good footing, but if so inclined, check out Precipice trail for some more rugged terrain.

It's okay, pretty scenery, dairy bar, the buildings with authentic period pieces, farm animals (you can only pet the cattle in one of the barns), there were tables of interactive items with people giving talks. Museum upstairs in main building and gift shop. Nothing exciting, been to better farm / farmers museums in other places. Note: you can get your passport stamp here for your National Park book since park across street is closed for Covid.

Nice if you have never been on a farm before. Pricey and underwhelming for a local. Not much to do for kids, it'd be nice if they would take a cue from Shelburne farms and put in some play spaces. Not a place I'd probably visit again and not a place I'd go out of my way to visit but worth a stop if you are in the area. Nice staff.

My best friend and I visited VT in October. We walked from our hotel to Billings Farm. It was such an enjoyable, scenic walk. Our visit to the museum and farm left us so impressed. The museum was Smithsonian quality! And we so enjoyed sitting outside with charcuterie and homemade ice cream. Everything was delicious. We then walked around and visited all the animals. The heifer experience was out favorite. Interacting with animals is so pure. We returned home and both agreed that the day we visited Billings Farm was a day that will remain in our memories for years to come. A few months after returning home, I got the itch for some VT products but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I contacted the farm and they went above and beyond to get me what I was wanting! They even included a personalized letter in the shipment. I was so moved! I hope to one day return to the farm and relive that beautiful day. Special thanks to Jen Flaster and and Maplewood Orchards!

This working farm and museum location was so lovely, fun, and educational. In a very "close-up and personal" fashion, we saw a dairy farm and cow nursery operation as it was in small farms before heavy automation... and were highly captivated. Though far from our first farm tour, this one felt more intimate. We were so well informed by all the guides and were fortunate enough to have one highly knowledgeable guy covering multiple areas with us (thanks, Greg -- we totally enjoyed you!). The story beyond the farm operations that is so important to learn is how the 3 distinct men and their families invigorated early capabilities for Vermont that built industries but also helped shift enterprises to work with conservation and sustainability at its core. Marsh was the initial visionary who established the farm and built something special from the start. Billings then developed conservation and technology advances to spur sustainable growth. Finally Rockefeller came along later to preserve the present and then gift the story and work for the future to all of us for many years to come. The story is richly layered and laid out well in their 30 minute film in the visitor center. So, was it fun to pet baby and mama cows, goats, and sheep ... absolutely! Did we enjoy learning more about the making of cheese and butter ... we did! And the farm house where you can (lightly!) touch an era long gone was great. But we also came away with much more, including wanting to learn/do more for conservation. We hope you enjoy and learn as well!

It's a cute place. If you like history, and getting up and close with some animals this is a great place. Also the cheapest place in the area I found to get the Billings cheese. This cheese is 12/10 cheddar, and they have samples for you to try. The 29 minute video is worth the wait, it is genuinely an interesting story.

Nice place with plenty to see. Each building had an employee that elaborated on its history and welcomed questions. If you grew up near farms then you won't care much for the cows, maybe the horses though. I was bored with the history, but it is a museum. They have a small gift shop and had complimentary apple cider.

The quilt exhibition was enjoyable, although we disagreed with the jurors’ choices. The sunflower house, the main reason for our visit, was great - who knew there are so many different kinds of sunflower? We concluded our visit with delicious ice cream at the dairy bar.

Visited Billings Farm on a Sunday afternoon in August. The grounds are beautifully kept and you get to interact up close with the animals. We pet dairy cows, draft horses, and a dwarf goat! Staff was friendly and informative. Would absolutely recommend for adults and children alike.

Wonderful peek into how the super rich lived when modern appliances did not exist. We got the winter tour, along with a horse drawn sleigh ride and a tour of the house and stables. The most memorable part of the experience was seeing young calves in the barn, so much like baby deer. This place and its grounds are a national historical park so that must be worth something as well.

Our family LOVES Billings Farm. It is great fun for all ages. The sleigh rides in the winter, the wagon rides in the summer, the baby animals in the spring. The staff is lovely! There are lots of great activities for kids. The old house is great to tour. The scenery is awesome. Make a day of it and visit The Worthy Burger in Quechee for lunch afterwards!

Billings Farm and Museum is a delightful, don't miss kind of place located close to Woodstock, Vermont. Most importantly, it is a working dairy farm, much of which is smoke free, where you can witness the many aspects of life on the farm and the cows, chickens and horses. A real treat is the 1890 farm hose, fully furnished as it was back then and mostly open to the public. You will also be treated to an oversized, and unbelievably delicious, home-made ice cream cone in one of several flavors. The Vermont Farm Life exhibits are extensive and intriguing and this city person amazing things that I had never thought of. There are films to see and audios to see all in magnificent Vermont surroundings. There is a lovely walking path and the expected gift shop. If you live within 100 or so miles of Billings Farm, it is a worthwhile day trip. If you are just passing through the area, I encourage you to add it to your itinerary.

Family friendly activity in the Woodstock area. Kids and adults will enjoy meeting jersey dairy cows, gorgeous 1 ton muscular Belgian horses, and calves in the nursery. You can get up close and personal -- petting the animals, watching the milking process. They give free samples of the cheese and also had hot apple cider on the day we went. It was a great activity for the non skiers in our group.

Arrive so you can do the movie approximately every 30 minutes at the entry or the rest won't make sense. Make a reservation once you arrive for the mansion, tour the visitor center, the barn and make the Farm House and Mansion fit in after the movie. Allow 1 hour for the Farm House. Didn't have time to do Mansion, but I'd allow an hour. Very interesting.

I grew up in the country side and did not quite get why I would pay $20 per person to see a few cows and horses. Yes, they have cheese tasting and small demos, but nothing too special. On the other hand, the Billings Rockefeller park next door is prime trail running ground.
