Reviews of Old South Meeting House
The enormity of the significance of this building hits you squarely when you walk through the door. This was one of my most anticipated stops on The Freedom Trail and I wasn't disappointed. To know that we were standing in the same room that the Declararion of Independence was read aloud gave me chills. Such an important piece in America's history. Don't miss this when you visit Boston!
Some of America’s greatest debates were held in the old South meetinghouse. I live it was very nice to see how it was used over time. And it’s time it was the biggest place in town for demonstrations of all kinds to be hounds. The architecture is really amazing! When you walk around you can feel all the important moments that happen to her. Well worth a stop if you are on the liberty trail.
If you like freedom of speech, then you like this place Famous historical building in Boston off the Freedom Trail. If you buy tickets to the Old State House, you also get access to the Old South Meeting House. A great buy one get one free.
Really great exhibit and timeline inside! Well worth the entry ticket price. Cute little gift shop also.
Beautiful historic building. Not much of a museum but has huge historical importance. Ask questions, the staff are willing to share many stories and facts.
I had, to my shame, no knowledge of this place, or what it really meant. While visiting Boston, a quick glance through Wikipedia page led us there. Its amazing, that you can still visit a place which breathes history, feel you are coming into contact with nation's beginnings. Very important place, to see, to understand, to remember.
Amazingly beautiful building. It's filled with history you can read and see. The staff is eager to answer any questions you have about history or the building.
A beautiful building and perfect place to learn some American history. The inside is shaped kinda like a church or courtroom and you can easily envision the founding fathers in full discussion. There are plenty of informational signs with maps, pictures and even some audio QR codes for listening on your phone. We spent 30 - 45 mins here. The same ticket is also valid for the Old State House right down the road which I would also recommend.
The guide was very knowledgeable. Paul Revere even stopped by. Anytime there is living history and the actors are knowledgeable and engaging, it will be a great experience
Love history and the young man that I video taped was really knowledgeable
Stand where they stood! Our history is preserved. I enjoyed the exhibits. It is just enough to provide the context to stand, linger and reflect.
Great staff. Ornate details inside and great exhibits. Veterans and military tickets were free.
Has the reputation of being a "happening place" throughout early American history ... think of the famous "tea party." Did not know the British had occupied and used it to keep and train horses. Totally disrespectful but kinda funny now in retrospect. The inside of the building is so beautiful it is difficult to imagine it filled with dirt and horse manure. Be prepared to do lots of reading when visiting this historic site. There is audio available if you have a smart phone and ear buds. I was short on time and did not get to read everything ... especially events concerning the modern period. Need to hunt for the information online.
The Old South Meeting House is one of many historical sites in this great city. Many wonderful restaurants too. This city was made for seafood lovers. I took this photo back in July 2017
A must see while touring the freedom trail! It’s amazing to be able to stand in the building where the planning of the Boston tea party took place!
You can buy a combination ticket that includes The Old State House which has much more interesting content. The Old South Meeting House has hosted many important historical figures. It would be great to see actual period items or reproductions, etc., of things used by some of these famous speakers. It's not just boring for kids, it is for some adults, as unfortunately there isn't much on display here. The Old State House is much more educational and memorable. Also, Paul Revere's house, The Old North Church, King's Chapel cemetery, First Public School sidewalk mosaic and Granary Burying Ground really brought history to life for us on the Freedom Trail. The Old South Meeting House takes only a few minutes to see. It's good to visit it if you're including it with other stops as well.
A really nice museum, only $6. If you are into colonial history this is a great place to visit on Boston's Fees Trail. The old South meeting house is where the planning stage for the Boston tea party took place.
The Old South Meeting House (US$6 per adult) is one of the important stops on the Freedom Trail in Boston. Built in 1729, this attraction offers a nice stop to see Georgian period architecture. We particularly liked the modest red brick facade and building steeple.
Inside the Old South Meeting House, you can visit the meeting hall, where debates were heard regarding British taxation on the colonies as well as protests and outcries regarding the events of the infamous Boston Massacre.
Within the main hall you can see pew boxes (two of which are original found on the sides of the hall) where parties would have sat and debated local affairs. There are also a collection of displays regarding social and political issues deliberated at the Old South Meeting Hall. These help provide context on events which took place here that lead to the American Revolution as well as shaping the country during its early days.
Overall, a nice stop for those with interest in early American history. There is also a good gift shop in the basement of the Old South Meeting House, which find near the building exit.
Note: At the Old South Meeting House, you can buy a combo ticket that includes entrance into the Old State House and the Paul Revere House, giving you a $3 savings compared to buying each ticket individually.
Fantastic. Staff was friendly. Interpretive displays fleshed the story of the meeting house brilliantly. The child's china playset fused by the Great Fire of 1872 was eye opening to me, which almost claimed this storied building as a victim to be numbered with Ben Franklin's birth house.
Feast of St.Anthony , @North End... I love North End Boston. This festival has become every year for myself and hubby..The history of it all is simply amazing. Finual Hall etc. Look forward to 2023 always an outstanding adventure.
It was very nice to pay a visit to his historical place. Tip for locals: don’t forget to visit any Boston public library of your convince and get a ticket (or 4!) to this place for free!
Really nice museum about Boston history and the tea party. The entry is 6$ but we paid 3$ each because there was some place under construction. The people really nice and willing to help. Worthy to visit
Well worth visiting whilst you’re doing the freedom trail. This building, much like Boston itself, is steeped in history!
Great preservation of one of locations that helped mold our nation in it’s infancy. Displays were nice and informative. Docents were friendly and super informative. Admission to the Old South Meeting House also includes admission to the Old State House. Interesting for history buffs.
Boston 's very own revolutionary center in lots of ways & a great informative museum WITHOUT being stuffy or pretentious, reasonably priced and part of the Go Boston Card bundle of places to see. FREE speech and free Expression being the order of the day!History was made & lived HERE!
Really good looking building full of historic things. You can get the tickets on the first floor and go upstairs.
Fantastic place to visit. The staff was very nice and informative. I enjoyed visiting and will recommend to others.
Beautiful place. The exhibits are informative but there are only very limited artifacts. Affordable and no wait for the restrooms.
It’s a pretty small museum with just the one room that was the meeting house. But the ticket is combined with the Old State House. Nice exhibit and you can sit in the pews like the founding fathers did.
It was an awesome time we seen a lot of lot of beautiful old buildings buildings some we can go in some we couldn't But it's a nice experience to check out histories Anybody that likes the history until old times will just love These buildings Just be prepared to do a lot of walking
Beautiful and full of history, a must see if visiting Boston.
Boston is an amazing city with amazing history. Reading about some of the significant events that occurred in Boston, seeing and walking through the historical buildings, reflecting on how people lived in the1600's and what shaped society is part of that amazement.
Amazing piece of Americana. So much history
One of the historic sites along the Freedom Trail. It's quite remarkable for being the venue for organizing the Boston Tea Party, one of the significant events that led to US independence from Britain.
Interesting place to see history first hand!
So much to learn! Guide was helpful and kind! Experience history first hand!
Enriching! Love the history of my COUNTRY! GO NORTH ENDERS!
This historical landmark is worth a quick visit while in Boston. This was the birthplace of the US revolution and bid for independence.
Another gem on the Freedom trail! Home to the origins of the Boston tea party.
Nice building from the exterior
Unfortunately still closed due to covid
Nice
I suppose some critical thinking once went on here. Tourist markets, a place for fruit sales and a nice park are across the street. Simple building.
A well done historic site, with excellent interpretation and thought provoking displays.
Beautiful place. Nicely maintained. What you see inside is completely what will betray your expectations after looking at the place from outside.
One of my favorite museums in Boston. I've walked the Freedom Trail a couple of times, and this was one of the highlights on both trips. The interior iteself is interesting, being relatively unchanged from the revolutionary era. There are also plenty of very well-constructed, fascinating exhibits about the building's history. A very nice way to spend a couple of hours.
Old south is a wonderful spot!! They even have a scavenger hunt for the kiddos. Loved it!!
The history inside this antique building is very interesting. I like how the wood floors creek with every step, and I am always amazed at the detail the people of the past put into the craftsmanship of their work. Also, they provide a fun little scavengar hunt of the artifacts displayed around the church hall.
Great exhibits and knowledgeable information, and it was in the perfect location when walking through town. I loved the exhibits, the staff, and restorations and the preservation at this museum. They close at 4pm, so we didn't have a lot of time there, but it was worth it for the time we were there
Very interesting, tour guides were knowledgeable and helpful. A beautiful place in a beautiful city.
Neat quick little stop along the freedom trail
Interesting place to visit, and at $5 entrance for seniors, very reasonable price.
The beauty of this warm and welcoming spiritual space is infused with history and love. This building dates from 1875. It has been beautifully maintained. I love to see the sunlight shining through the stained glass windows. The natural wood adds an additional layer of warmth.
Cool museum, great infographs and knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Awesome place to visit! Admission is reasonable. AAA discount available.
Another piece of the history of a big city. It is impossible to miss.
You can't visit Boston to see History - without seeing the Old South Meeting House. My daughter and I visited on July 4 - we had already done the guided Freedom Walk, but went back to see inside the building.
This is a very easy stop. There is an exhibit and an audio tour available for you. We instead just walked inside, sat down on a bench, and soaked up the atmosphere. If you try you can see the Colonists, hear the arguments.
This site is included on the Go Boston Card.
We stayed for about 10 minutes and that was perfect. I definitely recommend it.
It was pretty interesting, but I wish there was a bit more. Certainly worth a visit if you're hitting up all the places along the Freedom Trail but I wouldn't go out of my way exclusively for it.
It was there. Walked the freedom trail. Looked at it.
Beautiful historic landmark. The admission was a bit expensive for the small number of exhibits and lack of access to the 2nd floor gallery. The various difficulty levels of scavenger hunts was a thoughtful touch and did make it more engaging for school aged kids.
Good to know a little more about Boston's and USAs history
A definite stop on the freedom trail. It is now a series of displays with an optional audio tour available on your smart device. The displays focus more on the Meeting House's tradition of free speech extending well beyond the revolution and it's importance to that period. If your expecting somebody rable rousing as an in-period Sam Adams, you'll be disappointed, but it's broader history is also worth some consideration.
For the price, the history and the picture opportunities, it is well worth a brief visit.
So worth a visit. The history of Boston is part of its attraction and there's plenty to see here.
Historically beautiful interesting for adults , lame for children . Admission fee is reasonable . Pick one of the churches and visit our of the three. We visited all three and they all were the same . Look from outside at the other two. But the old north , church , Kings chapel , and old south meeting place interiors are pretty much the same. Yes each place has a different significants but inside they are alike. For a family on a budget one of the three is good enough for the interior.
A historical and beautiful building. It's actually a cool place for a wedding. Did you know that this was where the original Boston Tea Party plot started and the British retaliated by turning it into a riding school?
Fascinating old building that has played a key role in the maintenance of freedom in our country
This was such an interesting place to visit. They had a few things out that helped to make the exhibit more interactive. The docent that was there was especially knowledgeable and sweet. There are scavenger hunt for youth of all ages as well.
Cool museum on the freedom trail showcasing the old South meeting house! Most of the museum is the original meeting area preserved for the public. They also showcase the history and the role the building has played in the free speech debate.
This is one of the great historical sites in Boston.
It's now a museum, but once a year, on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, Old South Church, which is now located in an 1870s Italianate style sanctuary on Boylston Street (across from the Boston Public Library) returns to its original home for its Thanksgiving service - a very special occasion to look forward to on your calendar.
Next year, Old South will be celebrating its 350th anniversary (not a typo!), so the Thanksgiving service should be all the more spectacular.
Certainly cool to see, but it is just one big room. Make sure you download the audio presentations to your phone and listen to them while you are in the meeting house. It requires a QR scanner on your device so make sure you have one installed. Otherwise you will be doing a lot of reading. The recorded version nhelps bring the exhibit to life.
Fascinating to gain more information about what happened and how...
Since 1877, The Old South Association in Boston has preserved the 1729 Old South Meeting House as a busy museum, treasured landmark, and an active center for civic dialogue and free expression. A must for a visit to Boston. Learn the valuable part it played in the formation of the nation.
Our first stop on the Freedom Trail! We were able to buy tickets for three of the official sites on the Freedom Trail here, which includes admission to Old South Meeting House, the Old State House, and Paul Revere's House. These tickets never expire, so you can save them and come back at another time if you want.
The Old South Meeting House is a meeting house for the Puritans to worship. It was the largest building in Boston at the time, and it is most famous for being the organizing point for the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773. On that day, 5,000 colonists met at the Old South Meeting House to decide what to do with the taxable tea sitting at Griffin's Wharf. After failing to have the tea sent back to England, Samuel Adams stated, "This meeting can do nothing more to save the country." These words were rumored to be a secret signal to the Sons of Liberty to walk down to Griffin’s Wharf and dump the tea into the harbor, marking the start of the Boston Tea Party.
As you can see, there is just so much history and colonial significance in this place! And the interior is really beautiful, especially since it's arranged in the traditional New England meeting house style. This is definitely a must stop on the Freedom Trail.
It was the most interesting part of our visit to Boston! The docent Joe is very professional and nice, he answered all our questions and told us a lot ot interesting things. We are very grateful!
Great piece of American history!
The history made in this building is the foundation of our democracy.
This place was really cool to see. I'm so glad it's been preserved. It takes about an hour to do if you read everything. There is so much history here. I definitely would recommend checking it out!
If you'd love to learn the true history of our founding father's, old colony Massachusetts...and sit in a pew that holds the history of this nation...than this is a definite spot you will appreciate! I loved it!!
Fun to see where Boston Tea Party was planned on the Freedom Trail.
I wandered in from my journeying on the Freedom Trail and had a good time with the exhibits and looking around the building itself, which is interesting in its architecture and even just its historical significance.
So much history happened here. Cool thing about this tour is that you get to listen to events on your phone. You scan a little bar code and it takes you through the tour. Worth it.
Great stop, worth the tour price!
This is where the organizers of the Boston Tea Party met. $6 is admittedly a lot to see the small museum, however there are also plenty of historic exhibits on the Boston Tea Party to make it worth your while.
Beautiful and love the exhibit
Great piece of history. Beautiful architecture. Dove in here during the rain. Spent over an hour reading and learning from the exhibits.
Good overview with lots of info and photos
A big part of history! The self-guided tour was easy to follow and we learned quite a bit about what made the building famous.
Kind of lacking a lot to look at. Great historical spot with plenty of information on the building but there's not much to see other than the buildings architecture.
So here's a piece of history that you can access for only $6 to keep the place alive and you can find out more than you ever would have known about the origin of the history of the United States of America right here you'll feel like you're part of it
My son loved learning the history of it all
This is now a museum, though it was once a church and a meeting house. This was where the planning and tallying was done for the Boston Tea Party! Seventh stop on the Freedom Trail.
Fascinating part of Boston, full of interesting history. The market here is impressive. Great way to explore this beautiful area of Boston.
Wonderful historical building, prices are not that bad. and the audio tour is very informative. Take your time and enjoy!
Interesting place on the freedom trail.
Very well preserved, rich in history from the colony times and revolution, very interesting, and presented in a very pleasant way. So easy to tour.
Excellent museum! There were treasure hunts for the kids so that they were absorbed in the museum. Beautiful!
Make sure to see the Boston Tea Party re-enactment every December 16th, at the Old South Meeting House. Fascinating and great event for all ages.
On GoBoston card so cannot comment on value for money but information was well presented and interesting. A lovely building with an interesting history.
Beautiful historical sight, easy access through orange and blue lines trough State station and orange and red lines through Downtown Crossing
A special place in Boston's history crouching in the midst of a modern cityscape. Exhibits and live events are enhanced by the aura of colonial society.
A real gem in history...I actually forgot that Al Sharpton spoke there in the 1990s...The whole city of Boston is a gem for those who love to learn.
Great for a short museum visit. Dosent takes more that 45min to 1 hour. Perfect for families.
Great docent
Wow! Amazing history and a solid tour. It was undergoing renovation, but doesn't mess with the experience too much.
Beautiful landmark. The audio was interesting and easy to access via phone. Really great place to visit
Amazing history. I can't believe the people that have spoken there. Very cheap to get in, currently only 5 dollars!
Another building filled with history!
A beautiful space full of Boston history. Admission is $6 for adults.
Just love the feel of the importance of the true American dream that started here.
Fabulous! The history of our country can be felt in this building! Amazing to stand where our forefathers once did.
Very beautiful little museum!
I enjoyed the tour inside. My wife & I used the audio app they provide for the tour.
Don’t miss this stop in downtown Boston. Old South Meeting House won’t take long but well worth it if you are a history buff.
A nice stop on the freedom trail.
Very nice exhibits
Very informative but not worth the 10$. It takes you about 20-30 minutes to read everything.
Amazing history here! I liked the sheets for the younger ones to keep their interest.
Love seeing a history of real free speech, including tolerating viewpoints the owners may disagree with.
Nice church the inside is amazing.
Cool place fun for all ages you learn a lot about history
Unique meeting house that was also a church.
Really interesting, just with there was more history to see. Also the gift shop was closed.

(Translation) It is the eighth stop on the "Freedom Trail", which is a 4 km tour that passes through Boston's historic sites related to US Independence. The Old South Meeting House is now a museum, but its importance is related to the political meetings that took place there that culminated in the American Revolution. Worth checking out.

Vale conferir.
(Translation) It's a very important place historically, so the museum tells a lot of history, very interesting. But if you're out of time/money, I don't recommend investing in visiting the Old Meeting House because its interior isn't that pretty and the museum is more to read than to see. Anyway, it's an interesting place to visit. Look for dates when cultural events are taking place in the building, it's worth it!

(Translation) The architecture of the building is splendid, both inside and outside. This is a must see place in Boston. Indeed, the museum space is underdeveloped. I don't see a problem paying for this type of place. The price is a little high considering that there is almost no museum proper. But the visit is worth it. You pay to see the beautiful interior. Which is acceptable to preserve this type of building. There is also a charming little shop in the basement.
