Reviews of Autry Museum of the American West

A fantastic museum and well worth visiting. I came for their Dress Codes exhibition but ended up spending half the day there also exploring the other galleries which I hadn’t planned. Not only did the artwork draw me in but the exhibition design and interpretive text is eye-catching and well-designed. I look forward to coming back in the future and will def be recommending this to other museum goers when they’re in the area.

Fun museum detailing the history of the American west - great kid education moment. Also had a fun exhibition on the history of the Aloha shirt and denim when I went. Yee-haw! 🤠

We visited this museum while on our way to Griffith Observatory. While it the museum is good, it has a lot of contexts all together.
On a side note, if you bring your Bank of America cards, you have free entry

This museum has a very nice collection of antique guns in pristine condition from late 19th century. A lot of first model Colts. If you like guns this is a good place to check them out.

Went to see the exhibit about Fashion and clothing. Lots of interesting pieces and some really spectacular ones. My toddler really liked the ethnobotanical garden and the life-size horse statue he got to sit on.

This is a great museum, they are having more old fashioned clothing on display in May*They have a small garden and the coolest exhibition is probably the fake bulls which looked so real, I loved those. Travel back to the wild west and visit Gene Autry*Sometimes the museum has free days too*

Worth the 15$!! Really cool exhibits on indigenous ecological practices, an immense firearms collection, and a nifty section on western clothing trends! Parking is plentiful and you could easily spend 6+ hours in here to see and read everything

The Autry is one of the great museums. Featuring exhibits of both America's real historical West, and that which is portrayed by Hollywood westerns. Including the great tribal nations of the region, Spaniards, Mexicans, Californos, Asians and Americans.
As of this visit (April of 2022), several of the galleries are closed for renovations and new exhibits being installed. The Autry is constantly updated to offer new and returning exhibits to see.
The Autry is wheelchair accessible, many of the displays have audio descriptions. And is located across the street from the Los Angeles Zoo within Griffith Park, near the I-5 and CA-134 interchange.
