Reviews of Reginald F. Lewis Museum
Wow! Just wow! This place is powerful and impactful. The curator told us we would only need 90 minutes but honestly you could spend hours in this museum. You cannot sit and savor the information in 90 minutes. I recommend 2-3 hours if you have the time. There is an elevator so it is handi-accessible. Which is important for me and my family. I would say start at the 3rd floor and work your way down. The 3rd floor has tons and tons of exhibits. Go with friends and family and enjoy.
Very nice museum. Saw the newly added Frederick Douglas exhibit. My girlfriend who is from the area, said it was not there on her last visit so we considered it newly added.
This museum gives you a lot of black history about Baltimore and Maryland as a whole. 2 spacious floors filled with stories and history of African American life. Worth a visit.
There were tons of experiences there. More than I had anticipated. I am a woman of color and still didn't realize that there was so much history on African Americans and I like to know our history. It was truly astounding.
The Lewis Museum has over 400 years of history in its permanent collection. Take a journey through Maryland African American history in the areas of industry, politics, leisure activities, sports, media, the arts, education, the military, and more. Learning your history educated you about the past and how we've evolved but there's still a lot of work to be done.
This museum was so informative and had many beautiful pieces of art. We spent so much time on the top floor, we sadly didn't get a chance to see all the museum had to offer. Hope to return some day soon.
Very beautiful museum. I spent about 2.5hrs and loved every second of it.
I went to see The Box, The End of Isolation tour, a play about solitary confinement. It was an amazing production with simple props and the most powerful stories I have ever heard. It was so powerful & traumatizing that there was somatic work afterwards: breathing, shaking & screaming! All three were absolutely NECESSARY.
The United Nations considers solitary confinement torture. I will just leave this right here.
I will let you sit with all of your questions about why “civilized” Americans create the most barbaric forms of punishment instead of restoration.
Go & see it. It’s worth the investment. The stories will change you, move you, and tug at your soul.
Really enjoyed my experience and would highly recommend public attendance and support. We went over the weekend. It wasn't crowded, plenty of room to walk about. Lots to see and learn. There's history all around the area. If you're in Baltimore, you should definitely go.
I visited this museum a few weeks ago and I loved it! My fiancé had mentioned it before and we finally had a chance to go and I’m really glad we did. This is not only a great Black American history museum, but it also gives a good look into the history of black Marylanders which was very interesting. I also like that it’s very modern and up to date with current events. I always learn so much when I visit these museums. I definitely recommend you stop by when you’re in Baltimore!
My boyfriend & I took a weekend roadtrip to Baltimore and visited the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. Wow. Beautiful museum, inspiring, tons of history & information. There was also a choir/concert as a special event and we were grateful to catch it. The people were friendly and pleasant and very helpful. We planned to stay for one hour but it turned into three hours. There was so much to learn. I was particularly fascinated by the history of the Black Marylanders, the experiences they went through. We plan to go back because there is alot more to learn. Overall, just an amazing trip and inspiring visit. Loved it.
This musuem is a gem. We had a great time learning history that matters. This is a great place for adults and children. An eye opening place with a lot of knowledge. This knowledge should be available for teachers to share with their class.
Incredibly well balanced, beautiful presentation of hardships overcome and triumphs. Appropriate notice of what may or may not be suitable for young children. Knowledgeable staff and docents.
The exhibits are 100% locally relevant, but are also nationally relevant. I highly recommend that all Baltimore City visitors go to this museum. The Flag House is right next door, so double up on great experiences!
Open, well lit, accessible except for heavy glass doors which separate sections of each floor, but staff are all around to help. Low lighting in some places and small text, but well written and worth asking about if you have low vision.
Absolutely amazing museum filled with a ton of artifacts. The space is not very large but it's packed full of descriptions, videos, and everything is well laid out. Staff is friendly and the admission price is extremely reasonable. Love the comfy couches that they had in the 2nd floor exhibit. Not very crowded when I went on a Sunday.
There’s a lot of information here you can’t obtain from any other sources. A lot of first hand accounts from black people during their respective time line. It’s not the typical black museum that covers the same subjects.
Informative and well worth the two hours. The permanent exhibits on the third floor presented in equal measure the struggles and triumphs of African- Americans from Maryland, including the famous statesman, Frederick Douglass. The museum also highlighted their economic, political, and cultural contributions to the state and the nation.
The museum is housed in a modern and spacious building, an attraction in its own right. It is a 10-minute walk from downtown Baltimore's famed waterfront.
A great historical look at Baltimore and a realistic portrait of the atrocities committed against the Negros who help build this city and defend this country. I recommend this museum if you are visiting downtown Baltimore.
Very nice setup. I was pleasantly surprised to get 1/2 off my ticket price. I wish there was some type of tour guide option.
My daughter and I went for the black superhero exhibit. It was only one room unfortunately. We were pleasantly surprised though to find all of the historical information about Maryland on the third floor. That made the trip well worth it!
So I went on a Wednesday around 1pm. I had the whole museum to myself. Very well done. Plenty of exhibits on the 3rd floor. This place is much larger than it looks and has a lot of Black Md History on display. I even saw photos of Carr's Beach. Great
I give this place 5 stars for Donna in the genealogy department on 4. The staff is also very nice. Too much local history for my interest. Some if the art work is anazing. There is a wax museum that I think has broader appeal, just not close. This location and layout is perfect. It's only $8.
Be ready to learn a whole lot about African American Slave history and so well portrayed. We brought our son here since he's never been here and we would come back again. There's always alot to learn from museum whether about culture or arts.
Great and informative reenactment/presentation about the life of Harriett Tubman, learned about codes that were created by our ancestors, and took the kids on an adventure through the "Underground Railroad"...Can't wait to go back😊 …
Visiting this place was an experience whether your with family or by yourself. The exhibits are amazing also this place doesn't get crowded.
Inwasbamazed at how much history was packed into this place. The Romare Bearden exhibit was great. Not enough time to see it all in one visit. We will be back!
Great museum! MD educators get in free! And Bank of America members get in free the first weekend. There are other free/discounted entries as well. But if you pay, it's worth the affordable ticket cost.
Love the Men of Change exhibit. Always wonderful to see how much positivity black men have put into the world. 💕
It's a shame that the kids were not taught about these things in school it would be great for them to reconnect with their history and know where they came from
The layout of the museum was a little difficult to follow, but every exhibit was packed with history.
I appreciate everyone who contributed and donated to the displays.
Very nice inside 3 levels with a lot of black history deriving from Baltimore Inner city
People of all ages should visit this museum. It's definitely worth talking about and sharing with others (especially our youth).
Very impactful indeed. Less than a two hour tour but one could easily spend hours.
I really enjoyed it. Very informative and the collection/exhibits were very personable and relatable. Lots of good history as it relates to MD and the world.
Special thanks to the Reginald F. Lewis Museum for hosting the screening of Breathing Black. It was a premiere weekend and our creative team are grateful for their help!
This place is so amazing and beautiful. I love the how they show our history. Definitely recommend others to visit.
Wonderful venue as always. Their on site caterer is great. The crab cakes are top notch.
Lots of interesting information. Very friendly staff. If you park in the PMI parking garage you can park for $9. Bring your ticket with you to the museum to get validated.
Exhibits were really cool. Alot of items to view and interesting stories to experience.
Enjoyed a great night at the Reginald Lewis Museum, went to an event called Short Kutz , where different people spoke about their experiences at HBCU's. Twas a fantastic show, filled with laughter, good energy, comedy and entertainment. It was a great venue and I would definitely return.
Very nice African American Museum in downtown Baltimore. The museum also is used to host a variety of social events such as jazz performances, comedy shows to black tie political fund raisers.
Always educational and stunning, (and devastating at times when you think about some of the racist atrocities that are documented). It's one thing to read about history and another to share space with artifacts that were really there. Maryland educators get free admission! I recommend parking in the lot across the street and having your ticket validated for a discount. Check the website for hours and special events before going. Walking distance from the Inner Harbor and Little Italy.
Building is nice, I’m sure they host great events. I appreciated that they didn’t have guards/watcher ppl in the galleries. The bulk of the content (3rd floor) is quite disorganized and leaves much to be desired.
The theme appears to be history of blacks in Maryland, but it is not organized chronologically nor in any clear thematic pattern. This is somewhat disorienting and makes it difficult to consume and retain the information provided. Overall fine for an indoor date if you’re looking for something to do and are cool w paying 12$ to walk around and browse artifacts and photos.
The museum displayed a lot of very interesting artifacts from different periods of time. The museum was not arranged chronologically so pieces from the 19th century were next to pieces from the 20th century. I felt like I didn't learn much as it was confusing to place an artifact in its place in time and historical context. I also felt like it missed most of reconstruction.
This was my very first time coming however I will be back. This was an amazing experience. I was there for the movie made about the lynching of George Armwood who was my grandmother's close relative. That's to Will and The Museum George will live on. I painting an image of that night as well. This image isn't at the museum. But it's might.
Lots of good history with a very friendly staff. Went with my daughter on a field trip and we really enjoyed ourselves.
This was an amazing museum. I learned so much about Maryland and Baltimore history. I would love to see more exhibits open but with what I was offered I really enjoyed my time there! A hidden gem in Baltimore that everyone should visit!
Thoroughly enjoyed this place, so much to soak in one day you have to visit a few times.
Love this place. Went a couple of weeks ago for a nice event.
Black Baltimore's history is well documented ans exhibited in this museum.
I did not get a chance to explore exhibits. Museum was used for a private event in conference area.
A beautiful special place, a must see if you are in Baltimore.
Great knowledge and has both past and current history to enjoy.
My wife and I visited the museum and it was great. Packed with incredible black history and Baltimore. There was a live Jazz show going on on the second floor and you can hear it throughout the building. It was a nice touch to the overall experience. A must visit in the city.
Excellent museum that truly focuses on a message that is really important in today's political climate. The history of Black America is American history, and it is important to highlight the stories and achievements that have been omitted from mainstream narratives. I learned a lot about trailblazing individuals and organizations, and how we should appreciate their contributions regardless of our backgrounds.
Very informative
Extraordinaire celebration of life, love and unity... (50th anniversary Kwanzaa Celebration) Share in the majestic value of the prestigious Afurakan dynamic power!!! Asè #Ubuntu #Sankofa #Maafa #Diaspora
Nice clean location. Very artistic and colorful.
Very good info and details of the African American experience in MARYLAND. For the full picture, go to the National Museum of the African American Experience / Smithsonian on the Mall in DC for the full country. But very good, informative displays. They keep the place COLD even on a hot summer day, so bring a sweater. Not very interesting for younger kids.
We really enjoyed this museum, quite a bit larger than we were expecting and very engaging.
The exhibits were well thought out and put together with a great purpose.
Staff & Security was very helpful to us in learning about the exhibits. Superb, patient customer service. We look forward to coming again.🤗 …
The exhibits were interesting, and I love the building and layout. There were quite a few exhibits that had information cards that were done in blue or green ink. They ink was so faded and the print so small that I could not read them at all. That was very disappointing.
Very nice...it showed a lot of historical data. Thanks for remembering & validating US.
Very emotional and informative museum. A must visit destination for all Americans.
Mad we flew in on a Wednesday only to find out you guys were closed ! Maybe next time ..
This trip inspired me to move powerfully into my purpose Baltimore here I come 💪🏾 …
Really informative
Clean, well managed, great staff. Affordable for family... quite and rich in black history both contemporary and dated history.
Bring your handkerchief if u get emotional.
Definitely recommend to anyone and everyone.
I enjoyed visiting Reginald F. Lewis Museum. It was insightful, inspiring, empowering, informational and just a fantastic contribution to African American culture.
The layout, artifacts and story are intricately woven to make the visitor "feel" the history. I like learning new facts about the individuals that were highlighted and about the contributions of black and brown people.
Parking was scarce but maybe that's because I didn't find the bigger lot across the street until I was leaving! 😕
Well done.
What a wonderful museum! So many exhibits in the permanent collection - we didn't have time to see them all! The Catlett exhibit was so beautifully done, helping us to learn about an artist about whom we'd not been familiar.
We were fortunate enough to be able to attend the performance of "Four Women." Powerful and evocative, the singers and dancers drew us into the story of each of the four women in ways we hadn't imagined. Wow!
Thank you!
I went there on a university field trip for Black History Month, and it was such a good pick. There was so much information not taught in classrooms. I walked away learning a lot. The art exhibits were a wonderful surprise because I love art. They showed a few high school pieces, which were all incredible. I felt so inspired and motivated after viewing there pieces.
The location of the museum is perfect. It is right next to Little Italy, and a short drive from the Inner Harbor. It's a great destination if you plan on visiting Baltimore
I went for Dollar Day at the Museum and I loved it.
Great historical museum to visit with cool exhibits. Even has a cafeteria. Not sure if the restrooms on the second floor are the only ones, but the men's room doesn't have a changing table for infants/small toddlers. Would be a need for fathers with children. Have great fun!
Loved the museum. I went just to see the Freedom Bound exhibit & discovered so much more about the history of Blacks in Maryland. I spent 2 hours taking in the 3rd floor exhibit. Job well done.
Personally, I have always been a 5-star fan of Reg, and I know he would want others to help the museum with more donations for expansion. So, I donated more than I usually contribute to museums, and this was my first time inside. Even with some expansion work under development, I am now praying to soon bring my grandchildren up from VA to learn about the impressive mix of a variety of historical leaders Reg stood on the shoulders of, well beyond business/industry African American leaders - e.g., AA leaders from education, law enforcement, medicine, sports, music, etc. It is an inspirational testimony to our cultural resilience.
Lovely presentation from Maryland Lynching Memorial Project.
Take a look at history...it will open your eyes!
I found this Muesium to be very educational and interesting. I was in no way disipointed. African Americans contributed plenty of aspects of life throughout Maryland. This Muesium has plenty of exhibits to prove it. It's like walking through a big history book.
Great place to visit for Black History Month.
Went to see Men of Change exhibit....phenomenal!!!!
First time every visiting this Museum. Came on a Field Trip with Students from Patterson High School. The two students that were our tour guides were very wonderful, respectful, and great when talking and explaining each exhibit. They both are Students from Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Very knowledgeable about African American History and the Lives of the People on exhibit through out the Museum.
I had the opportunity to visit the museum while visiting my sister in MD. It was AMAZING. Very warm, welcoming and beautiful. We've had the opportunity to visit the James Pate: Kin Killing Kin exhibition there and we were blown away. I hope to visit the museum again on my next visit to the area.
An absolute jewel of downtown Baltimore!! I found this museum by chance while going to lunch with my wife. It was a treat and historical gold for anyone in Baltimore. To see such history that resonates with the city of Baltimore specifically and cover national historical facts as well was awesome. The wall that paid tribute to young artists from competitions in local schools was inspiring. Very well kept, informative, excellent price of admission, validated parking, nice mementos in the gift shop. A wonderful experience for the family, insightful conversation starter for dates, and a point of pride for all African Americans and Baltimoreans of any race!
I was looking forward to this and for good reason. The museum absolutely lived up to my expectations and then some. The RFL Museum does a great job highlighting the many contributions of African Americans to Maryland and beyond. I passed a group of white people at the intersection right before I went in. They were all talking about how it was “on their list.” If it’s on yours (and I hope it is), move it up the list! You won’t regret it. Totally recommended.
It was so much to learn and experience... next time I go I willcome earlier to have more time to walk around.
This relatively new history and culture museum exceed my expectations. I learned so much about the history and culture of Black in Maryland in one trip. Set aside some time to get through it, the exhibit is bigger than it looks.
Amazing black history specific to the marlyland region. Great exhibits. Eye opening-especially to see chains, other artifacts, and to see the RECENT local history. Must see for all those in the area.
#Sankofa
Our Lower School PK-Grade 5 visited the museum on a field trip. The staff was incredible! They planned engaging activities for all age groups. The historic reenactor presenting Harriet Tubman was fantastic. Joy and Terri worked with us to hone every detail of our trip. They were kind, gracious, and professional. They understood the developmental stages of our children and designed our day to maximize everyone's learning experience. The museum has an amazing permanent collection and fascinating traveling exhibits. An excellent option for a school field trip or a family outing!
Definitely a must see, especially if you're looking for an authentic African American experience. My husband recently presented a story telling skit at this museum, along with other entrepreneurs, in celebration of Reginald F Lewis's Birthday.
A very detailed study of African American history in the Baltimore area. Excellent photos, art and stories that create a real view of early neighborhoods and people.
The museum is just lovely. Such a wonderful space here in my city. VERY Disappointed that Reginald Lewis Museum did not take a bigger role in the City Lights Festival. Just to display some lights on that wonderful corner that you occupy would have been nice . Love your programming and wish that there was a greater presence in attendance.
Visited Baltimore for a wedding and had a few free hours before leaving for the train home. I often visit museums when traveling. I was very happy to have discovered this one. I learned so much about African-American history generally- last 400 years or so (and I was a history major). I also learned about the Baltimore community specifically. Everyone should should make every effort to visit this remarkable museum when in Baltimore.
I attended a beautiful wedding here. It was so educational for my fiance & I to be able to browse the museum after hours; so we could take as much time as we liked at each individual showcase. From letters from Sugar Ray Leonard, to some of the very first seats from the first schools of African Americans, to some of the biggest Pioneers in medicine it was amazing to see, it truly was.
I do truely feel that if you havent been able to get here yet, that you are really missing out on something special.
We decided to spend a weekend in Baltimore and when exploring around the inner harbor, the Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History caught our eye. We're glad we went. We only had time for the permanent exhibits on the top floor and a time-limited artist exhibition on the third, but we learned a great deal about African American life in Maryland that we did not know and we look forward to learning more on a return visit. It's down the street from Little Italy, where we had lunch, so you can plan to have two ethnic experiences one right after the other!
Well laid out with a plethora of local change makers! Being from Birmingham, I was impressed with this museum and their preservation of local history, because it truly matters!
I take my son there for the Martin Luther KING activities. I liked how they had something for everyone. It's very important to me that my son understands the great work Dr. King started and it's up to us to continue that work. My child deserves the best no matter his color, and we will continue fighting for our God given right for equality, no matter who states differently.
Another historic reawakening in Baltimore. This Richard F. Lewis museum has some very in depth history listed for all African Americans. There are some controversial sections but its important to understand your history. I thoroughly enjoyed the walking through and relearning great moments and turning points of the pasts for education, music, inventions, and struggles of those before my time. I strongly encourage more people to visit and learn those actions and accomplishments from history so you can see it for youself. We as a nation have come a long way but there is still some work to be done so we can be united as a country.
Extensive survey of African-American history with a main emphasis on Baltimore and Maryland (where it is located). Rotating themes on a periodic basis. Good experience for the whole family, but may be a challenge for small children. Senior and child discounts available. Will have to pay for parking across the street. In museum shop but no food at the time we were there. Seafood restaurant across the street.
A wonderful overview of those people and events that impacted African American history. Not as heartfelt as the Great Blacks in Wax Museum, though more "professional" in presentation. Worth a visit, and plan for about 3 hours.
The museum is absolutely awesome. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
While my dad was visiting from Texas, this was a spur of the moment decision to come here. We enjoyed ourselves and enjoyed all the educational exhibits. Admission was very reasonable. We will recommend this museum to everyone!
I loved this place so much because I got to learn things that I never knew before about Reginald D. Lewis and also much more about my culture. Also I loved this place because this famous great man was born where I was also born at. Which is Baltimore Maryland. This man did a lot of good things that made such a great difference in the world.
Nice museum great exhibits all on 3rd floor. 2nd floor for events (a wedding reception was planned for this evening)1st floor has one exhibit and gift shop (well over priced items)overall it was a nice experience and i learned a lot of Baltimore black history that i didnt know about. Museum could use some maintenance lights were blown throughout leaving some areas very dark
I was very disappointed because they are closed on Wednesdays I was looking forward to visit but God willing in the future
Great museum and well put together. They are undergoing some renovations. Right now so some of the audio elements did not work. Otherwise I really enjoyed spending my afternoon here!
Love the history and the way OUR stories are told. Definitely must visit if you want to see REAL Baltimore history.
The 3rd Floor of the exhibit is fantastic! I spent hours in there absorbing all of the culture. A must see for any person of color! I plan to see it again!
Incredibly eye-opening, inspiring, and important, this museum should be experienced by everyone.
My companion and I went to the museum during the Christmas week, 2015, on a day when lots was happening.
First, though, the Reginald Lewis is easy to get to, parking is readily available, admission is inexpensive, and it's in a thriving part of Baltimore's downtown.
The museum is beautifully designed and constructed, and superbly maintained, with open galleries supported by smaller corridors, fitting the museum's mission of being a place to explore and celebrate African-American history, and then aspects of its culture, including labor history, entertainment, and the arts. The historical and other displays are attractive, striking when first viewed, then absorbing in their supplementary detail. The museum is visually inviting, in other words, while providing meaningful materials that draw people into additional thoughtful meditation.
A lot of African-American history, of course, involves the country's horrific treatment of African-Americans, and the museum doesn't "make nice" with that tragic story. However, the museum also interweaves black labor history and cultural, and artistic development to portray African American resilience and tenacity into the Twentieth Century and the present. Also involved in this supporting material is a focus on the importance of community, not just in Maryland. All in all, this is a fine place to get yourself re-educated, or educated for the first time, about a lot of things you might have skimmed over in high school or college. You can easily spend an hour or two, here, doing that.
On the day we were at the museum there was a lot going on, a Kwaanza celebration and an arts and crafts show, and the staff and participants/ volunteers were having a good time. Museum staff, by the way, are friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they do.
In one of the galleries was an exhibition of work by Ruth Starr Rose, an artist whose reputation is growing nationally. Regular exhibitions like this are another asset of this place, I gather.
Visiting from Madison, Wisconsin, this was our second trip to Baltimore, but the first one when we devoted time to checking out the city's offerings. The Reginald Lewis Museum is an outstanding attraction, one we'll be back to.
Richard Swanson (and Fanny Aragno)
Enjoyed learning facts which I had not previously known.
I really enjoyed this museum. Very informative and the visual models were done very well. My only complaint which may be a work in progress but the middle floor seemed pretty bare.
They generally have a great exhibit. I really appreciated the kids events and activities when mine were small. Now I can also appreciate the youth events and adult evening activities.
Look guys I NEVER regretted seeing this place. Very informative; motivational; has the ability to bridge the gap of racism cos racism is real. Watch Reginald F Lewis documentary and it can give you a self awakening moment. Was so glad to be there.
Attended the Mr.Keith Baltimore Runningman event. Packed house along with BRO organization and Nike rep.
My father had his birthday party here and my aunt had her wedding and reception here. Both times we had wonderful experiences from the staff and all the departments. I'm considering having an event here one day
Wonderful exhibits of African Americam history. Love the pictures the atmosphere and the staff. Had the opportunity of attending the 10th anniversary gala. And it was amazing . Keep up the good work.
The African American children's book fair was fantastic. Children were able to speak with the authors and take pictures with them. There were even 3 youth author's. Children were also able to participate in art activities.
Went here for an event and really enjoyed the layout. The cafe is really worth trying. See all the art collected over the years and approximate the history that this building brings to Baltimore.
A wonderful place. Had meant to go for years. Grateful to finally do so. The history is enriching and you lean SO much about life in Baltimore for black people. Worth it for sure👍 …
The Museum is a horrifying depiction of reality past and present. I was happy to learn about the life and accomplishments of Reginald Lewis and my admiration of Baltimore grew fonder. However, I left there deeply sadden about Africans brought here against their will to be enslaved, and degraded. I left there nauseas and feeling afraid for my life, though not removed from my Faith.
Wonderful educational experience about Maryland's African American history.
Wished I had more time to explore great art and great customer service
My first time her for the 7th Annual AA Children's Book Fair and I am impressed, I can't wait to go back go for more of the museum!!
I was really pleased with this museum, the artifacts, and variety of information available to view. We walked out feeling informed and enlightened.
Walking in the door everyone was friendly, full of information.
The exhibits were beautiful.
We plan on going back very soon to finish the tour.
My family and I truly had a wonderful experience at the Kwanzaa celebration. My children enjoyed the book making, arts and crafts, reading and story telling history , drums and the dancing . We had a wonderful day !!
Wonderful museum, state if the art facility and great representation of Reginald Lewis and other noted African Americans.
I really enjoyed the great African American history exhibits that I saw there. So much amazing historical photos and information. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
A Groupon experience. The Musuem had a barrage of information on Afro-American history in MD. Provided history on slavery, integration, religion, inventions, agriculture, politics, music, art and the culture from past to present. Very educational for all ethnicities, young and old. They also have jazz artist on Thursdays. Check their website to see the performers. Walked away with some history I never knew existed in MD. One exhibit was interactive most are pictorial with display cards for reading. A must see. There is a cafeteria within the museum for entrées, non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. The price of entry reasonable. Parking is hard to find and the garage is expensive. Plan on walking a distance or paying a lot to park. Make it a day trip, the garage is only $8 entry before 9am. I will be returning.
Information is clearly presented, good organization and flow. I learned a lot of information regarding how the seafood industry developed in Maryland that I was unaware of. There could be a better utilization of empty space.
The museum covers the culture and history of African Americans in Maryland very well. Great location within walking distance from the inner harbor in Baltimore.
Sad but very interesting, and needed! Very well presented, great people who represent the impact of AA-citizens to the US today, their cultural contribution, and the economic push provided by them.
This is an extraordinary cultural museum representing African American contributions to Maryland, national exhibits, local live museum and excellent food. They have it All! I'm happy to be a member.
An amazing experience I learned so much and can't wait for the next time!!
Wonderful place to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Everything is for the most part on the 3rd floor. The second floor doesn't have much at all. I came to this museum when it opened, I'm not sure what happened to everything that was there, it's pretty empty now.
Love the marvel comics room.
Had a really good time during the Wakanda celebration! The cost was only $5 p/p, and worth going to learn the history of Wakanda. Good idea for Black History month!
Really good museum and gift shop. Learned a lot.
This is a great place to visit. Its a beautiful facility and they have very interesting exhibits that really showcase African American art and history.
I guess I should've gone there before the African American museum in DC. I felt the exhibits were lacking and heavily focused on Maryland black history. But overall it was ok, I wasn't wowed
A wonderful place to learn about African-American history in the Baltimore area as well as nationwide.
Greeting, the best museum with the most black history I have ever witness. Visited during my Family Reunion. Peace Be Unto You
Got there late. I thought the staff would be upset but they welcomed my family and I there with open arms. They gave us great tips on how to see as much as possible.
