As a literary fan, I was excited for this one. You have to reserve a time (there are no walk ins) and they do not allow you in early. At the "top of the hour" two guides came out to give instructions (steep, narrow staircases, wear a mask if dust gets to you, times, etc). They were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. You have 45 minutes to self tour the house, which is more than enough time because it is only 600 sq. feet. There are signs in every room telling the story of Poe and the family, and what stories he wrote while there. Five people lived in that house, including an invalid who was bedridden. It took us about 30 minutes to go through, read everything and talk to the guides. The only thing I was disappointed in was that I paid extra for the audio tour, not realizing you need to bring headphones because it's a cell phone tour. I didn't want to bother others, so I didn't listen. The guides did mention that the audio tour will play anywhere (and in any of the places Poe has been) so I will be listening to it later.

Teeny tiny temporary home of Poe and family. The stairs are a trip (almost literally) but the feeling of history is palpable here. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and the self guided tour is short. Worth it for the souvenir book also! Thank you Poe, thank you Baltimore. 💜
Janet Madrigal-Duchesne
This tiny home at tops only takes an hour to self-tour. If you read every plaque and poster, it might take longer. The tour itself was great, and there is portable AC's around the house. The staff was friendly and happily answered any questions we had. They have Edgar Allan Poe knick knacks for sale at the entrance.
Robert Ebersole
Very interesting place. Tour guides were great. It's a self guided tour, but there's a couple guides to answer questions.
There is on street parking(free) if you are lucky. A couple people parked out front. I rode on the rent a scooter from Inner Harbor. Easy to get to.
Make reservations. The place is popular and no walk-ins available.

If you’re a fan of Poe, you will love it!! Just be aware that there are many steep stars and small places to take them. I loved it!

The Poe Festival and Poe House were amazing.. So many vendors with cool themed items to buy. The burial exhibit was very interesting, the man who ran it was very knowledgeable and had awesome items to show from that era. Parking for both was not fun, but worth the walk.
Gary Ellerbe
A walk through Baltimore history. Cheryl Harris was a tour Guide at the Poe house. She transitioned in March 2022. They dedicated the Festival To her work . This paver makes her a part of their hostory. Cheryl was my better half.

Great to see this historic home however the “museum” portion was disappointing. I’m no expert but was with an expert on museum curatorial exhibitions and many of the displays were displayed In darkness way too much reading the placard’s with the information on it well repetitive and graphic design were cumbersome and unappealing , you didn’t get an essence of who Edgar Allan Poe was
the most interesting part was the wall where are the quotes from other famous authors were displayed about who Edgar Allan Poe was
the young lady who was the manager was a delight, informative and we appreciated her knowledge however the museum itself didn’t accurately display the greatness of Mr. Poe.
Jacob durst
Really great experience! Friendly staff. Can't wait to go back

I learned so much about poe! As someone who is not a Poe fanatic,I enjoyed the place. It was nice being in the size of house that people lived in back then and imagining how people lived back then. Poe and his talents and life are an interesting yet tragic story but important part of literary history. Glad I visited.
Dwayne Milburn
Cool house, and very knowledgeable hosts. The small size of the house makes it a little difficult for more than a few people at a time to enjoy the exhibits. Make sure to visit the gravesite and place where Poe died.
carmen ruiz
Doesn't take much time to do this attraction, but definitely one of my favorites. i love Edgar Allan Poe work and if you enjoy museum's you will appreciate these one. don't go without check the Graves, make some extra time, you will not regret it 😊 …

This place packs a lot of history. It's a very nice visit, the tour guides make sure you're safe throughout Poe's home. His house has really small rooms and low ceilings, which brings a kind of nostalgic and comfy vibe.
Jason Mills
Very small museum... you can see it all in 10-15 minutes. But very cool to see a preserved house of Poe's from his time in Baltimore and learn a bit about the time he spent in this city. Not too far from downtown, it is worth stopping in if you have the time.
Sybilla Bakzaza
Fantastic staff, AWESOME gift shop that includes post cards, magnets and a graphic novel written by the director. You can actually see where Poe slept. Many fun fact mentions and very accessible. Not handicapped friendly, but that is due to the architecture. They turned us on to his grave down the way.
Sarah Joyce
First things first, please remember that this is a historic building. It's very small-- for reference, I'm just over 5 foot tall and very thin, and I fit perfectly in the stairways and rooms without having to duck. You may not be so lucky, but you'll probably be alright if your group is small and you are very patient. It's also not fitted with central air, so when it's hot out you may want to avoid going in. They have fans and such scattered throughout, and I'm used to not having AC, so I was comfortable but another person there got a little ill, so be careful. There's no dedicated parking as it is in a residential area, but you can find on-street parking pretty close with low rates (I seriously have never seen parking rates that low) and the meters accept cards.
The place is small, as mentioned before, and so there isn't a lot to explore inside-- but the people inside are so knowledgeable that it almost doesn't matter. There are signs on the wall with very detailed information about the area, what it probably looked like when Poe lived there, and neat insights about Poe and his relatives. The gift shop is so sweet, and it's definitely worth the time to visit if you're in the area or a big Poe fan.
Best of all, Poe's grave is nearby. It's pretty much walking distance, and it's beautifully kept. Bring some pennies to leave at his tombstone, but be cautious when walking around because the graves aren't all obvious. The details on many of the other stones, particularly some of the farther back ones, are extremely interesting. Also there are some things in the site that are kind of hidden-- tucked under buildings or obscured by bushes and the like. Definitely a good way to follow up a visit to the Poe House.

Really enjoyed our private tour!! Was expecting an accompanying digital brochure and was a little disappointed they hadn't arrived yet, but they offered a refund for the amount it would have cost.
Andrea Jankowski
Very nice for the price. The people were nice and informative. I must say thank you for the portable ACs in the home and the fans. Otherwise it would have been miserably hot
Dmitry Zinger
It seems like a nice place. Unfortunately, I was not even able to get inside, as they have extremely strict reservation policies. I have never had to do a reservation for the museum before. They also seem to mandate mask use. This is a little surprising in 2022.
Maureen Howerton
Very cool, small museum. But Very interesting. Add on the cemetery to your own tour!
Nicole
It isn't their fault, but this museum is attached to some depressed-looking housing projects. Across the street from (presumably) gentrified housing projects. The neighborhood doesn't feel unsafe (tho at night, use caution, like in any city), but run down.
It's sad to see how the elite of Baltimore used to live in this neighborhood, and now it's fallen into disrepair.
Closed for COVID. I don't know if I'd go back. It feels out of place in this new environment. I guess it's fitting, since Poe was the master of creepy.
Erika Ambrioso
Must make reservations online. Which means no wait at the door! A great visit for Poe fans.
Jeff Natterer
While a little small and cramped for space it was a wonderous joy to explore a piece of Poe's past. Excellent collection of history and really nice gift shop articles. A MUST see!!
John Mitchell
Absolutely nothing to experience other than visiting a historical location related to Poe. Any true fan may find the site to be underwhelming
Patrick Morgan
The staff was amazing. What a beautiful part of history
Christopher Lang
The tour guides do an amazing job at explaining Poe's history in Baltimore, and his impact on the city. The house offers a lot of history, and it's cool to see how much he accomplished while in the house.
Brian Argüello
Wow can't believe how helpful and knowledgeable the staff are here. For such a small and underfunded operation, they are able to make the experience more interesting and enjoyable. Don't forget to ask about the various Poe Places in the area. They make for a great addendum to the museum experience. I highly recommend this place for fans of Poe!
felicia
I wasn’t able to go inside because it was an extremely hot day in July and the air was not working inside. Nevertheless, what a thrill to see his home and grave. Also interesting that this historical site is right next to public housing units.
Raymond Ellis
I enjoyed the Edgar Allan Poe house. The self-guided tour was interesting. The signage was very descriptive and interesting.
Kevin
Small, easy parking on street, close to town, confusing re reservations or not needed? Spent less than an hour.
Rusudan Tetrashvili
Wonderful tiny little house for genius writer Alan Poe
Ally Barrera
Amazing experience to walk into house of such a great and influential writer! The staff is sweet and is quick to offer information when someone is doing the self-guided tour. The place was kept as close to original house with few recreations. Its very mych like stepping back in time. They have a cute little git shop with very unique gifts to end the visit with something nice to take back home
Rita Pearson
We didn't get to go in but it was cool to see. Very well preserved. I imagined him sitting at his desk with his pen in his hand in front of the window...
Cheryl Ringer
For what it is its awesome worth the 3 1/2 hr drive from Pennsylvania and if your a Poe fan definitely check it out
glenn larkin
Really interesting piece of history. Tight spaces and fans used inside. Gets warm in summer, but still really cool to experience if you like Poe.
Toni Anderson
I was so excited to see the home that Poe lived in. It still had some of the original furniture and decor which was awesome to see. I always loved his books with his dark poetry. It's worth the drive to check it out. You can also go from there into Baltimore to see his grave. Get directions from the staff at Poe's home.
Nick Camp
Very tiny, very cool. Minus 1 star cause it's the kind of place you'd only go once.
Coffee Minx
A must for any Poe fan! Remember to book online first—you must buy tickets in advance, and bring your mask.
Leslie Kliebert
Unfortunately the museum was closed when I attended but it was a joy to see the building itself and imagine Mr Poe doing his thing
Benjamin Sommer
It was interesting to see this famous poet’s house. I didn’t have enough time to go inside however it was still cool to see from the outside.
Anthony Cancel
Amazing to stand on the same ground of a titan in literature. We were actually driving to Florida from NJ and this was a great stop along the way. Right next to I95 and entire stop was 30 mins
tracy watson
Finally made it to Poe fest! Great and creepy fun for everyone!
Matt Maans
Always enjoy going here, it's a great place to visit and take in some historical events.
Monica Ford
Fantastic self-tour. We'll preserved. Poe was just a Poe (poor) boy.
Scott Reed
It's an interesting part of Edgar Alan Poe's life. It's very small as would be for the time it was built. The guides are very helpful. Parking is on street parking near the house which isn't bad. You would be hard pressed to stay more than an hour. The gift shop had some cool t-shirts, etc.
Carlos Olave
Had a great time visiting Poe's house. Recommend the tour!!
Sarah
The place is absolutely worth $10, it’s actually pretty cool and it’s self-guided. However, it’s pretty loosely affiliated with Po overall and it was kinda out of the way. Self-tour took 30-mins.
- If you have nothing to do or live nearby, or just need to time to kill, go for sure.
- If you are from out of town and it’s on a short list? May not be your gig this year.

Great experience. It was great knowing Edgar Allan Poe and where he lived!
Larysa Cohen
Great experience.

This was a nice place to go. If you like history or Pope himself this is a place you have to visit.
Steve Granzyk
Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely worth the price of a ticket.
Branz Sweitzer
Enjoyed our visit, learned some things we didnt know. Convenient parking in front of the house, and staff inside was informative and friendly.
Jeff Winkler
Fascinating place and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. It is small and limited but interesting. Please note it is in a run down part of the city although I didn't have any trouble. Nearby is Poe's grave and a statue. A must for Poe fans.
Tayla D
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The house was easy to find and tour. It is very small and doesn’t really take too long to go through the entire house, 20-30 minutes tops. The neighborhood it’s in isn’t the greatest. On our way out of the area we were stopped at a red light and three men attempted to wash our car windows. Not being from the city, we just told them no. They then proceeded to rub soap all over our windows, lift the wipers up so they were unusable unless we got out of the car to fix them, and cursed at us. We waited until our next stop to get out and fix the wipers. So if you go here, keep your doors locked.

It was a very interesting museum and the staff were friendly, but I bought one of the Edgar Allen Poe planters and when I got home and opened it up, it was Beethoven. I tried emailing and calling the shop, but they never responded. I'd highly recommend going, but be careful when purchasing anything from the gift shop. I'd open up anything before buying just in case.
SDS GOD
History still there but is surrounded by open market drug dealing. You get what Baltimore is really about at poe home. Bmore careful "
Jaime
I went here before covid-19 hit. I had a crab cake up the street off of Fayette best ever. The house was so interesting. It is much smaller then I could imagine and within it you could feel the spirit of Edgar Allan Poe.
Joel Wasinger
First, fragile white folks, the neighborhood is fine. We didn't feel threatened or at all in danger. Good Lord, people, spend a few more minutes away from suburbia; it would do you good.
The museum itself is great. Honestly, it's mostly just a tiny house, but the volunteer staff are AMAZING. The tiny house itself, and the various artifacts and the quotes on the wall are cool. But the staff make it worth the trip. They're full of knowledge--including stories much less well known--about Poe and his family. As others have indicated, they also know a good bit about Baltimore and the surrounding area, and gave us some great tips for other sights to see and things to do. And they're eager to take questions and make the experience personal.
I highly recommend it. Buy some stuff in the little gift shop too, so that this work is supported and can continue. They've got a good collection of Poe-worthy (interesting and slightly odd) memorabilia.
Kathy Roark
Excellent tribute to Poe! I highly recommend a visit! Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable!
Yvette Bozdech
Tiny and hot, but worth the visit if you're a Poe fan. The tiny gift shop is very good.
Dee R
Was closed when I visited but cool to see outside

Now is the time to go here!! Reservations are required because of Covid, and they are easy to do online. This was my third visit over a period of about 20 years and being able to walk around the house on your own is a unique experience. The curator waited in the small gift shop at the entrance while we walked around on our own. The curator was incredibly knowledgeable and provided great stories and information.
Philip Lounsbury
Wish was open during the week. But it was cool to see the outside
Lee Marxen
It was cool to go into an 1800 house that wasn't some mansion to see how the regular folks lived. The woman running the place knew her Poe. Probably was disappointed that we all knew so little! I would rate it a five but the man left behind so few artifacts there was not much to see that was "Poe". Also for Baltimore's favorite son, the city only kept half the house! Worth the trek to the projects.
Ashley Varnum
I love Poe's writing and was very excited to visit this place. The admission ($8) was a little steep for such a small place and the "gift shop" was quite tiny. I enjoyed seeing the place as it isn't something that you can visit in just any state but I won't be driving over 15hrs just to go back.
Justin Worst
The place is really small, there's only five rooms including the entrance so you can see everything in about 30 minutes. There's information about Poe and his family's connection to the house in all of the rooms and the volunteers who work there are very knowledgeable. It's $5 for adults to walk through, I'm not sure about the price for children. It's pretty cool to check out if you're a fan of Poe or historic buildings.

This will sound so ODD and will certainly date me!
I have lived in Michigan my entire life. I am now 65 years old. When I was young girl, every year my parents took our family on a two week vacation/car trip to various places across the United States. My mother, a stay at home Mom, would spend months planning each trip. Once she chose what part of the country, what states we would drive through, she would find places of interest for us to visit. Often these were historical sites and museum. She loved history. I do not recall the year or how old I was, but for whatever the reason I have always remembered the Edgar Allan Poe House. During a conversation with my husband one evening, talking about what I recalled about E. A. Poe, I decided to Google. The pictures I found were like a trip back in time. It was exactly like I remembered it. I do have a question I would love to have the answered. The tour guide was a very sweet elderly lady that told use about Mr. Poe as we walked through the home. She showed us the shutters on the inside of the windows, the doors, back and front, and the fireplace had crosses built into them. She told me that Mr. Poe was very superstitious and the crosses kept ghost and spirits out of the home. I have never forgotten her telling me about that and I wonder if this is true. I'm thrilled and impressed that his home has been preserved and still is open to the public to this day. I have a memory of a flower garden that was very nice and well tended but I believe that memory was from visiting Mr. Poe's grave. It was so very long ago but most of my memories of the home were spot on. Amazing!
Apostolos Gerasoulis
A very touching place. Kind of spiritual if you are a fan of Edgar Alan Poe.
Connie Green
The house is a museum and there are diagrams and info about his life in general and how the family lived in this teeny-tiny house. We stayed around 40 minutes. The stairs are super steep and hard to climb even if you don't have mobility problems. It is in a sketchy neighborhood, but even standing around outside we didn't have any problems. Only parking is on the street. Visiting the house gives you an idea of how difficult Poe's life probably was. If you're interested in Poe or history of that time, the house is worth a visit.
Archit Harsh
For Poe's fans and admirers, this is a must Visit.
Great to see the place where some of his best works were penned down. It is a tiny house so be cautious while climbing stairs and such.
Overall, decent experience.
Ben Washburn
Just noting that as of 28 May 2021 reservations are still required because of COVID. I didn't know that and walked there from the hospital so it ended up a wasted trip. Probably good to call before you go to see if reservations are required because obviously they're lagging behind some. And it's a small place so maybe they're being extra careful.
Sam
Very interesting tiny home. Worth the visit.
Austin Larson
Must-see in Baltimore for locals and tourists alike. Very small but fascinating museum about Poe’s time in Baltimore. Even as someone who isn’t a bookworm it was still a really cool experience.
Krysta Castillo
A beautiful location with really amazing staff. I learned so much!
Cristabel J
A must-see stop for any Edgar Allan Poe fan! Anyone else might not like it as it is a very small museum for the price you pay. With reading everything and waiting to go upstairs to see his bedroom, it was a total of about 30 minutes (maybe less) spent there. They do have a lot of great stuff in the shop when you go in, so if you are only looking for souvenirs/shopping, you can do so without also paying to go into the house. Please support this place with either buying from the shop, paying to go into the house, or with donations! The staff was very friendly and helpful, too! And no, no restroom. Go to Walgreens a couple of blocks down for that.
Jo Schmo Benka
Yes it may be hot, but the atmosphere is pretty cool. This tiny historic building is such an amazing and educational spot and is great to bring teens to. The stairs are steep and small but well worth the climb. I seriously loved the entire experience and would love to see more generations visit for years to come
Amy Mason
I think you need to be a Poe fan to truly appreciate this museum, but I loved it. It's rather small, but has very interesting facts about Poe and his works. Great little gift shop area. The docents are wonderful; very knowledgeable and pleasant to chat with.
Matthew Goodwin
Bit of a dodgy part of town, bit pricey for tour, however, I'm a Poe fan and this visit was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. It's a cozy little cottage, steeped in history and the assistant gave us a great background to the place.
Connally Miller
The docents at the museum where amazing! We had a fabulous tour and learned so much. The docents also gave us great advice about other sights to see. They were very gracious and knowledgeable. We walked from our hotel in the inner harbor, the distance was not bad, but it might not have been our safest choice.
Marcy Edwards
Love Poe but there are only two reasons to go here. 1) To stand in a space where he lived, though it was only for a couple of years. 2) To marvel at how tiny it is. I mean itty bitty, like "tiny house" trend small, and there is practically nothing in it. Several of the few things they do have may or may not have actually belonged to Mr. Poe. Great photo opportunity out in front of the house by the street sign. Don't mind the reviews that talk about the sketchy neighborhood. It's really not that bad and you'll be there in broad daylight. Cute gift shop with several cool Poe souvenirs.
Shelby Lenker
We went on Edgar Allen Poe's birthday. The rooms are surprisingly small and with other visitors being there also it was a little cramped. The staff was friendly. Lots of things to read and look at though. From there we stopped at the cemetery were Poe is buried. Very Victorian looking.
Benjamin Chartier
cool historical house to check out, with very informed employee. However it is in a rough part of baltimore, and while there is a large parking structure nearby, the walk over was a bit unnerving. Still worth a stop to see the last place Poe lived, although the house itself is quite small. B+O railroad museum is also right down the street!
Judith Steffens
We spent an hour at this museum and learned a great deal about Poe, his unhappy life and his incredible writing. The museum is well organized and contains an eclectic collection of artifacts. The office staff person, Kionna, was welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed our visit.
Lynnae Andersen
Due to the pandemic, we were unable to tour the inside, but the house is well kept. The house is located in a less "desirable" area, but the residents we walked past were friendly.
Kristen Gulish
I’m not a fan of guided tours, but Debbie did a great job sharing all the items on the display and discussing the life and history of Poe. She was so enthusiastic and made it a lot of fun! It wasn’t just a tour, it was a story. Don’t miss out!
Victoria Leslie
Went during covid so we had a private self guided tour. The staff was really nice and knowledgeable. Very small and must be about to do stairs. Don't need a huge block of time for this.
Alexis R
Super cool place to visit! I went on a whim with a friend, and it was awesome. I will say though, it is not in the “best part of town.” We walked from about a half mile away, and were cat-called, had things shouted at us out of car windows, and had someone follow us while shouting crude things at us. I would suggest an Uber/Lyft/Taxi for sure. But once you’re there, it’s an awesome place to walk around. The house is lined with lots of facts about Poe’s time there and even his whole life. I though we only walked around for about ten minutes, and when I looked at my watch it had been an hour! Great time!
Asia Rena Gillespie
Wonderful piece of history if you are a Poe fan. The folks working there are very knowledgeable and courteous. It is in a sketchy block of Baltimore , however, if your there during the day you shouldn't have much to worry about. Parking is limited so I would suggest a Taxi of some sort.
allen halbleib
The E. A. Poe house was not at all what I had expected it would be but it was still an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone. The tour was self guided and fairly cheap considering the tourist packed inner harbor only a couple of miles down the road. There are few volunteers stationed around to answer questions youight have. And a small gift shop at the front room inside the house.
justin credible
I didn't get to go inside because it was closed on the Sunday I went. I'm giving it 4 stars because even if I did go inside, the house is tiny. I can't imagine the place being more than a twenty minute tour. The neighborhood looks bad. I know a hood when I see a hood and this house is definitely located in the hood so lock your doors and beware of your surroundings. It's really cool to see where he lived and imagine yourself as being there during the years he was living here. I do recommend it, just warning you it's not a nice neighborhood.
I drove to this neighborhood. A friend told me many people who walk to this side of town get mugged or messed with.
Victoria Whitney
A very well kept historical house with knowledgeable and friendly tour guides. Despite the fact that the house is indeed small, there's enough history and the people there know enough and are kind enough that visits can stretch for over an hour easily. We drove there and parked on the street FOR FREE (I believe it was a two hour parking limit between 7AM and 9PM? locals were exempt).
The furnishings are not originals with the exception of a few artifacts that are behind glass, but still all the material in the house is from roughly the same time frame as the Poe/Clemm family would have lived there.
I've heard several times over the years that the house is in a "bad" part of town but when we went it was in broad daylight in the middle of the week and my group (two adult women and an adult man) felt perfectly safe. There's a few friendly cats that like to hang around but they're not inside the house so no worries for those of us with allergies. Bonus. it's less than a ten minute drive from Poe's gravesite.
Despite being such a tiny little house, they have a mini gift shop by the entrance/exit (front door entry way of the house) with proceeds going back to running the house with as much or more variety of Poe themed things (sorely tempted to get the marble statue) as any of the general gift shops in the city.
Amy Vogel
This little house on the corner of a strip of row homes is believed to be the place where Edgar Allen Poe wrote "The Raven" in the little tiny and yes creepy second story room. It is a tiny house that is the only home that Edgar Allen Poe was known to have actually lived in unlike the other museums in VA and so forth. He lived here briefly with his Aunt for some time, and is to believed to be the place he was walking home when he was coming home from "The Horse You Came In On Saloon". It is an amazing place to visit if you are a Poe or horror fan! It does have stairs so if you have trouble going up steps it might be a little difficult for you but, if you can make it up to the top it is well worth it!
marianne Belcastro
Interesting apt, very small and hot.well maintained..must be very thin or small to climb winding stairwell to top floor. volunteers add to the story. Wish they had adult size tee shirts. Small gift area. We had to wait to be let in..
Kenneth Dunkle
While his more popular writings were not penned here, the Poe House captures his life in Baltimore very well. The staff is so knowledgeable and are wonderful story tellers. The steep stairs and small rooms gives rise the claustrophobia of "The Cask of Amontillado". Just standing where he stood feels special.
Cassandra Heide
I enjoyed visiting the Edgar Allan Poe House. I'm giving a 3 star rating because in my mind that indicates average. The Edgar Allan Poe house isn't anything amazing that you haven't seen before. However, if you know who Edgar Allan Poe is and you have an appreciation for his work, then visiting his house is a great way to spend 30 minutes. Also, this attraction is very low-cost, so the cost is worth the visit. I'd recommend this to anyone who has an interest in Edgar Allan Poe's life. I enjoyed learning more about his house and how he lived.
Bernie Cat
Walked from inner harbor with a group. Wouldn't make the trek alone. Fantastic place to see! Straight shot from there to Lexington market after. Recommend driving to Poe house if you aren't confident in yourself and street smart. There is parking out front.
orlando brown
Cover cost is $5 to visit with souvenirs to purchase. Very small inside I'm 6'2 so it was challenging. There is also a guide to give you the history about the house and Poe' s family.
Wes Tapp
Hidden, but well worth it. This is in a rough part of town. We were called 'intrepid' for venturing into this part of Baltimore. The house is interesting and the caretakers are definitely Poe enthusiasts. Take a couple of minutes to see the projects that were created for the soldiers returning from the war.
DY H
Not a very large home so don't expect to be wowed. There are some of his personal items but most of the home is filled with items inspired by his life. Small fee for entry, reasonable as it is a privately funded exhibit.
Barbara rodriguez
Place was awesome. The tour guides were very nice and informative about the museum. Worth going and take pleanty of pics!!

Visited on Saturday, July 19,2014. I was not at all disappointed. Poe Baltimore has done a wonderful job in opening the house and museum. A member of Poe Baltimore was outside the building. It is located on Amity Street which is, by the way, a one way street coming out to meet Fayette Street. The neighborhood is not as bad as others make you believe it to be. There was parking right out in front of the house and like I said, a member of Poe Baltimore was waiting/monitoring the house, outside. We were greeted warmly by other Members inside. With a $5.00 charge for adults and free for children 12 and under, it was pretty awesome to be standing in a home in which Mr. Poe resided.
Unfortuntely, I can't say the same for the Grave site. It was closed due to window replacement in the surrounding buildings.
Lisa Ellison
Neat little historic building; very interesting to walk around inside with a cute little gift shop where you can pick up a mourning kit, shot glass, calendar, t-shirt, etc.. No bathrooms. Be prepared to get hit up for your change if you decide to walk around the outside of the place, which is in the middle of an old apartment building (projects, I think). Ugly new gentrifying building project across the street might curb that though.

Cool little piece of Baltimore and literary history. The folks who work here are quite knowledgeable and friendly. It's a small house so don't expect this to take up your whole day, but visit Poe's grave after as part of your city tour.
John Clemow
Visited recently for the first time and really enjoyed it. Staff is very friendly and they have an excellent gift shop. Four stars because it's just so cramped for space that you're constantly feeling like you're in someone's way or vice versa.
Lori Badgero
An eye opening view into the life of Edgar Allan Poe. Knowledgeable curators and shopping available, easily found with GPS. We spent a generous hour just taking in the basics. One of the most interesting things I have ever done! Discover history not found in History books here. Enrica Jang, coauthor of one of the books available for purchase, is just one person available at the front desk.
Jenn
Charming, tidy, and a very kind and informative staff. The gift area was refreshing and parking on the street was simple and ample.
The history here will give you goosebumps. Loved our visit.
Rox H
This is a very interesting place. I highly suggest paying the 2 dollars for the "self-guided" tour. Although they say self guided, there are people on each floor that give you LOADS of info about the history or the location.
The neighbor hood is a bit sketchy, but I did not feel uncomfortable for one second parked on the the street.
Kirk Rose, Jr
Cool little piece of American history. Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable except for when my wife asked how far from the house was Poe found unconscious lol. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area.
Cristianna Nelson
Parking on the side street is simple and easy. They do have hideous condo's though right across the street though that baffles your mind since everything around it is poor housing that the government doesn't take care of. The house is small and simple but put's into perspective what Edgar's life was like for a little bit. The people are very polite and helpful if you have any questions.
L H
The staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the house amd it's infamous owner. Admittedly, the house is small, but thats to be expected from a house of that time period. They have preserved the house well and will answer any questions you have to the best they can. The house itself is very creepy and gives you insight int the mind of Edgar Allan Poe.
Forrest McCann
Cute former rented home of E.A. Poe. A small museum for his small space that he lived in.
TippyToes Jordan
He lived in this house when he was a child for about 2 years.
Alicia Ruiz
Little place and not a lot to see inside but read the information in the place and it was interesting. Still had to see it as it's associated with Poe, after here go to the cemetery and see that too!
Joe Cassidy
If you are a Poe fan or just want to see how people lived in 1830s, check it out... grave nearby... its small, not much to see, but if you love Poe, or want to learn more about one of America's best writers, it's a must.
Matt R
A tiny gem in Baltimore. If you're a fan of Poe it is a must-see. The surrounding area might seem intimidating to some, so assess your own level of comfort and if you decide walking there isn't for you, take a cab. That said, when I went there was a cop car parked right across the street from it keeping an eye on things.
Jeff d'Hedouville
Such an awesome place to go to hear interesting stories about Edgar Allan Poe. Plus, you can get maps to do a walking tour of Poe's Baltimore. Also, it only cost $5 to get in, and it is very close to where he is buried.
Mark Drinkard
Friendly staff that would retell stories, close to the terraces for Wire fans
Jory Beatty
Great for a fantastic peek back into a few hundred years ago of a never dying legend.
Just don't bring your whiny kids. They'll cut your stay short. I know from experience.
Krystal S.
Great little place to visit. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Ray Peck II
A definite "must see" for fans of literature and prose.
Joseph Thompson
Simply a stunning piece of American History.
Alca RB
Was an amazing experience to walk on the same path that Poe did in Baltimore. The house is very well conserved with most of the original stuff still there. A ´must´ for a Poe fan.
Stephen Pissarra
My 11 yr old daughter is doing a book report on Poe. The volunteer there was exceptionally curious, and extremely knowledgeable. As must for any Poe enthusiast.
James Tancraitor
as we arrived a bus of rowdy high school students arrived and posed a problem with noise and such. I am handicapped with artificial leg and I could not do steps did not feel comfortable. rest of family did enjoy it
Ted Kidwell
This a great museum this a must visit for all age groups so much to see and learn and staff are great and helpful this is so nice to see and learn it was a fun visit we had a great time well worth the trip.
Paula Spence
This place is TEENY, but that is part of the charm. You'll have plenty of time to see everything in 30 minutes or less, including the little shop at the entrance. Buy a little something . . . It helps keep the place open. Worth the trip if you're a fan.
Kimberly Keyes
This house is a bit on the small and narrow side. That's because it was located in what was a working class and poor area during Poe's time. It's still worth a visit if you're into Poe.
Araceli A.
GREAT EXPERIENCE!!
Modernization across the street kind of affects the historical atmosphere. But Mr. Poe is one of my favorite authors, and I loved the experience.
Kevin JaXuN
Not a good area but worth a visit if you are staying nearby. It puts a few things into perspective considering the period in which he lived. Not a long walk to the grave site from here (consider the area though).
Susan K
Not to be too humorous about Poe's early childhood but he really did live in the "Poe" section of town. Looks like they built Baltimore's Projects around his house. Didn't get insidecasvitvwas closed when we got there, but please proceed to his final resting place, which is incidentally across the street from his grade school.
Julian Fishov
This is a really nice historical building if you want to see where Poe lived, they also have a little gift shop. The staff is very friendly and will answer all your questions.
Chelsea Davis
I love Edgar Allan Poe and his works, so I give this 5 stars.
B C
It's a great place to see and the gift shop has neat items. It's VERY small, especially the entrance, so if it's filled you'll have to wait outside. But it's worth the wait!!
Brian Lawson
In a rough neighborhood, but my daughter and I had a great time. Home is well kept. Very knowledgeable Staff. Nice gift shop.
Brandi Tillman
It was a great place to be able to see where Poe lived with his family. Its not for everyone since the house itself is small.
Shahid Naqvi
It was great to see an ordinary 19th century house where a great author lived. Quaint. Hopefully, after all the nearby construction is over, the area would look much nicer for visitors.
Kirsten Adams
This is a really awesome place to visit if you love history or are a fan or Edgar Allan Poe, my husband is pictured here with his shirt to match the house, we had a great time and it was a really awesome piece of the past.
Jeff Sams
An excellent place to visit, just very small. Not a lot to see inside, but what they have preserved is excellent. I appreciated the helpful guides on the tour.
Chad Klavetter
Great piece of history hidden away in West Baltimore.
Robert Dubell
Being a huge Edgar Allan Poe fan it was amazing to walk in a place he had lived before. Lived in Baltimore for 30 years and finally made it down wish I'd have went sooner.
Stephen Lohrmann
I would have given this place a 5 but, with no fault of their own, it's hard to find and not in a nice neighborhood. Once inside it's neat to see how the Poe's lived in such cramped quarters.
Robert Rohr
Great museum, the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend a visit.
Christian Gibson
Some interesting details about his life there in Baltimore but in all honesty it is a small dingy place with little to offer. Not worth the entrance fee.
Valerie Perry
For every Poe lover, this is a pilgrimage.
Be warned, if you are very tall, this may be difficult to maneuver through. The residence is narrow and claustrophobic, but what else would one expect?
Be sure to take a peek both inside and out.
Maria Anton
If you are into Edgar Allan Poe, this is a place to must visit!
Bristol Sauer
Went during the Edgar Allan Poe festival so our time was limited but I would love to visit again. Very cool and factual place.
P Brown
It was very small but they only charged accordingly. Interesting to see how people lived back in his time. So minimal. Interesting facts were available and cute trinkets for purchase.
Katherine Lambert
Great place staff full of knowledge a must see for anyone that knows the writing
Michelle Holcomb
Wish we could have stayed longer!
Ms.VintageGypsyQueen Gonzalez
I loved it got to experience it for the first time I was blown away I love edgar Allen Poe so even a glimpse of his life and home I was satisfied with I will definitely go back it is an experience you don't want to miss especially if you are poet or poetress yourself the gift shop was decent I had alot of fun museum was very quaint and lovely
Luke Freeman
Interesting peak into the past. Small home, with only a few rooms to see, but interesting. Staff members in most rooms provide interesting information and stories
Steven Raimer
If you're a fan of his writing then you should visit his home.
hey mom
Informative staff, cool experience. Very tiny place so you do have to wait outside for your time slot so keep that in mind
Al Kohawlick
Great place to visit but located in one of the more dangerous parts of the city. Literally surrounded by one of the worst projects (Poe Homes) in baltimore. Don't even think about it after dark.
Ellie Johnson
Its the original house, so be prepared for tight spaces! I wish there was more history about Edgar's writings here, but a cool spot nonetheless.
Jorey Cimmer
Super awesome to see the house of my most cherished poets!
Everyday Adventures with Jim
What a fantastic place.. awesome history!! If you like Poe you must go!! As for the negative comments about the neighborhood...stop! Closed minded ppl judge how and where ppl live and how they think they act..
Cathleen Finks
Make sure to make a reservation for a tour.
Rachel Morrison
Worth the trip for any Poe or history fan. Super small so will not take too much time to tour.
Anibal Acosta
Nice little house museum, but it was closed to the public due to Covid 19 pandemic.
Alberto Ruiz
It's a very small place, but the guides were very informative and told an interesting story about an interesting person. Only gripe, there is no parking.
Helena Boehm
It's always fun to walk through a piece of history. Loved this... Will definitely come back.
Zimmerman DZB
Like stepping back in time. Helpful staff and plaques. The place is small and the area isn't wonderful but it's well worth the trip.

Interesting, but a bit pricey at $8 a head.
kodman15323
I brought my kids there last summer we learned so much. The place was beautifully done . Will definitely do a return visit.
Diana Chartier
Expensive price- not so much to do there on a regular day. House was preserved well and the information was interesting. Short visit.
P Thomas
Very very small. Only $5 to get in. Not much to see other than very small rooms. If your a Poe fan, go.
Shannon
There is a limit to the number of people due to space constraints. Plan for a wait. There is a cute gift shop to browse
Derek Williams
For Poe lovers only. He only lived there for 2 years. Note: his grave is NOT walking distance away.
Brook Mensing
Very interesting site to visit in Baltimore. Ask for the guide of where to go after you leave the house. Great little tour guide of sites to visit after leaving the house.
Whatever Betzi
Make sure you reserve online!

See Poe's house. Learn about his life, see objects that belonged to him and wander the rooms where he spent his dreary, phantasmagoric days.
