Reviews of Haw Creek Valley Overlook
Katherine Suhrheinrich
Visited end of March 2022- I recommend coming for the sunset!!! Come a little early because the parking area filled up. Very beautiful and relaxing spot to pull off blue ridge parkway. We spent an hour here after hiking in the surrounding area.
Lauren Lewis
While visiting Asheville my fiancé and I were wide awake at 5am and decided to do this hike! We started at the Art Center so it was just under 5 miles out and back. The elevation wasn’t terrible (we live in Florida so any bit of elevation usually kicks my butt now.) There was a suspicious person in the parking lot when we first got there that made creepy comments to me, if my fiancé wasn’t with me I probably wouldn’t have started the hike, but just for people to be aware.
The view is definitely gorgeous from the top!
Shaun
Good trail for some good morning exercise but not very scenic. Lots of poison ivy along edges of the trail so be aware of that. The overlook has nice scenic views. Trail runs along the BRP so you’ll hear cars on the hike.
Lori Fenty
Signs are gone but gorgeous overlook. I went on cloudy day but still worth the view. Went again on a sunny day. Beautiful spot.
Sharon
Beautiful spot to watch the sunset. Just get there early to ensure you get a parking spot.
J. Scott Rutter
It's definitely worth pulling off to take in the beautiful scenic views or get a good hike or picnic in.
Erin Perez
Lovely hike at this time of year. From Folk Art Center to Hawk Creek Overlook. Seeing all the fall colors is breathtaking. This hike is alongside the blue ridge parkway, so there’s the occasional car drive by. The earlier you go, the quieter it is and the more you hear the nature around you. I was hiking back around 11 and the traffic and noise congestion picked up a bit. Beautiful view at Haw Creek. Incline mostly going out, but that gives you mostly downhill coming back. No muddy terrain since it hasn’t rained in a bit, so that’s likely to change. Had the trail to myself with the occasional crossing paths with a fellow hiker. Recommend.
Rita A. Girardi
Nice 4-5 mile hike. Some climbing but not difficult. Trail is maintained and well-marked. Was crazy windy at the top on the day we went. Easy to get to, and lots of parking and bathrooms at the trailhead, which is at the Folk Art Center (worth a visit if you have the time).
David Brown
Great spot for seeing east Asheville and the surrounding mountains to the south and west. The MST is across the parkway and up a rock wall. There's an entrance not far south. I took a nice walk to the next trail exit north up the parkway. There was one climb that puts this short nature stroll into moderate status. It wasn't too bad, and there was a reward waiting not far past the top. A guy with a moped just hanging out and listening to music, right beside the trail up in the woods!
Nicholas Nocek
A nice little pull off with about 15 parking spots. View is ok, there's better around the area. Still, a nice place to take in the mountains.
Andrew Gall
We enjoyed the ~4 mile hike to the overlook from the folk art center. The overlook was pretty and can be accessed by car if you don't want to hike. The hike there is mostly uphill, so be ready! (It's not bad though)
Rocky Bilotta
Nice overlook close to downtown Asheville. There's a better view just above the overlook, accessible from the Mountain-to-Sea trail.
Philip M.
BEAUTIFUL overlook that is worth hiking to. Don't settle for the roadside version!
orderkaos
Thought to find some trails here looking at some posted photos, but didn’t locate any, otherwise it’s beautiful outlook especially in the summer!
Cassie Gibb
My favorite spot on the Blue Ridge so far. I love coming to watch the sunset, or just to hang out.
reggie morrow
Nice little overlook with good scenic views....limited parallel parking.
John Keller
Nice easy hike thru the woods from the Southeast Guild art center.
Xamul Vang
The overlook itself is OK. Not the most picturesque, but it's easy to access. For a decent hike, park at the Folk Art center and follow the white markers north on the Mountains to Sea trail. It'll be an uphill hike for a little while, but you'll eventually see a red marker. Turn left and you'll be at the overlook. You'll see some of East Asheville and the residential homes below. You can even see the Asheville mall from this spot.
Erica Sanes
Great spot for watching the sunset.
Sarfaraz Ahmed
Nice spot on blue ridge parkway overlooking a valley, on a clear day you can see sunset probably, we didn’t get to see that.
Vic Balkaran
The view is great, the leaves are still green. About 10 cars can park on the side of the road to see the view.
Frani K
Beautifully breathtaking
Fernando P Tirado
Beautiful spot to stop. You can see why they are called the Blue Ridge Mountains
Brittany Kertesz
Overlooks a gorgeous valley, but is almost always busy. If you want a more private area, you may want to choose another lookout!
Herkunftsnachweis
great overlook!
Melissa Myers
Great place to catch a subset. Super close to East Asheville
Gabriel Flores
I came in the first week of December and the view wasn't all that great mid noon, however about a minute away was a spot where you can park your car and walk to get a very great view.
Deborah Kinton
Perfect place to see the sunset off of the Blue ridge parkway.
Janelle Jagnanan
Great views, beautiful scenery and a drive!
John A
Great hike. Really good elevation. Make it a day hike or make it a quick hike.
haley wilson
Beautiful spot to watch the stars come out and relax with a beautiful view not to far out of town
Andy Pilcher
So close to Tunnel Rd, great sunsets, can get creative on the cliffs behind you! ENO is a wise choice!
Sasha Jones, PhD
Freeing! Lovely overlook 😍 …
Jamburger James
Great location for some great pics.
Tom Martinez
Great spot. Limited parking. Get there early.
Andrea W
Beautiful spot to pull off on the Blue Ridge Parkway
D KB (Doug)
Awesome views ,peaceful and great to be alone or with friends
Gary Isaacs
A very nice hike, steep at times. Once at the top, the view is stunning, and a great place to relax. Don't overlook the gift shop and folk art museum, they have lots of locally sourced art and crafts from local artisans.
MEL L
Good place for good food and small plates. Saying that in a good way the small plates were just what we wanted and so was the price.
Abby Bingaman
Love watching the sunset here
Shantica Days
Its pretty but there is very limited parking and it's kinda creepy but if you stay in your car at night the view is stellar. You can see planes landing in the distance. It's a nice spot to end an evening.
matt cates
Very pretty place to stop and look at.
Debra Fisher
It is a peaceful hike, close to Asheville with a great view.
Earl Windell (Jim Daily)
Absolutely beautiful. The entire blue ridge parkway is amazing. Anyone who loves the mountains should take a drive down this road to see all the beautiful scenery and amazing landscapes of the blue ridge mountains. It does get inclement weather during the winter time and some parts of the road are closed so keep that in mind when planning a trip to this location or any other along the parkway.
Ahnika Delirium
Lovely view, though often very crowded and alas many folks don't wear masks outdoors despite close proximity. Climb down the rocks for an ad hoc stroll in lovely clear woods where the road noise disappears, though very near wealthy developments. Nice place to play chess on less busy days.
J I
Beautiful overlook. Can be crowded!
Juanita Washington
Beautiful lookout point. Excitingly high elevation but not much parking and somewhat dangerous getting out to see view.
Lucas Y
Very beautiful lookout super close to Asheville. Can be busy. There is a hiking trail with an even better view nearby the overlook
Veronica Rivera
The view is just phenomenal
Wendy Alexander (Winky)
This is an awesome little pull off on the Blue Ridge parkway, give or take just a mile or so north of the Folk Art center. Beautiful view from the East side of Asheville.
Jessica F.
Mountains ❤️😄
I moved to black mountain NC because I love the mountains. The Lord has been good to me ❤️😘 I am happy here and it's okay to chill out and be accountable and responsible for my life today. …
Justine Shelton
It was foggy from the rain today but no less beautiful. Lovely place to pause and take in the magisty of the blue ridge mountains.. Large trash cans available at this stop.
Will Chatham
This was a great place to hike to from the Folk Art Center. It's about 2.4 mile out, and the same on the return trip. It's a beautiful overlook that provides a unique view of a part of Asheville you'd not normally get to see. Also, it is NOT a place you'd want to take small children! Too easy to fall off the overlook.
Amanda Dunn
So beautiful 😍 💖 💗 …
BSeg44
Nice view of the mountains!
Christopher Becher
Great sunset overlooking the valley. Asheville is on the other side of the ridge, so you won't see the city. But it is a fantastic view.
Todd Ehlers
Just ok. Better overlooks nearby.
Chris Cuddy
Great view!
Hope Reynolds
The beauty of North Carolina is unequaled. We travel often to one of our favorite States, taking in the views as we drive through the Blue Ridge Parkway. Haw Creek Valley overlook is one of those stops we always make, we take photos and admire the beauty of our surroundings. If possible, visit North Carolina and enjoy its treasures!
Brian Bentz
Decent view. Well worth driving up the blue ridge parkway.
Kempton Harmon
Real loved the view. Next best site to an ocean view. Sure do miss Ocean sunsets and sunrises.

Brooke
We didn't find a clear view sort of overlook, but it was a lovely walk.
Dallas Cooper
Absolutely breathtaking. Parking is there but slightly anxiety inducing with backing out to the road.
Jonah Wilks
Fun place to park and eat. While Covid 19 is slowly becoming more and more of an everyday talk.
2 drunk people through glass bottles off the over look, afterwards they drove home, drunk 😕😏
Kate M
Any overlook off Blue Ridge Parkway is worth the stop! Camera or no camera! Haw Creek Valley is yet another beautiful site. Whether you're climbing or descending in elevation, it's always worth the stop!!!
Frank Slattery
Great views especially at sunset and it is easy to reach and has parking
Tony Malone
Scenery trails loved it...
Sara Smithson
Decent view of Asheville not far from 40 or 70. But the small overlook gets crowded fast. Go further north for less crowds and more impressive views.
Dan Weader
