Reviews of Asheville Museum of Science
Mar Pepin
My boyfriend and I are 22 years old, and we found this place on Google prior to coming to Asheville. We love science museums, especially museums with geology exhibits. The museum, upon us entering, definitely made us think that we were probably too old to be there. But, the museum staff were welcoming, and they even told us we could check out the place before paying admission. We quite frankly were okay with paying the admission to support the museum. They have scavenger hunts that are honestly pretty challenging. I definitely think that this is a great place for kids. There are a lot of interactive exhibits, and I honestly was very entertained by some of them myself. We spent about an hour in the museum, which, for $10 each, is pretty nice. I bought a bunch of stickers at their gift shop, and spent about $10 in the gift shop. The AMOS stickers they sell are very high quality and look great on my car. I really enjoyed my time here!
Jeanie Knox
We had a fantastic time here! Both my 7 and 14 year olds loved it. Everything was very clean and easy to use/interact with. Staff was so friendly and helpful and the exhibits were educational and fun. We will definitely be back!
Adam T.
Small but mighty. Staff enthusiastic and courteous. Kids 6-10 years old were entertained for 90 min and plenty for adults to learn too. We only had one day downtown and are glad we included it.
Neil Kennedy
This museum is very small without a lot of activities. I was told that they are in the process of expanding.
Currently there is a small mineral exhibit, an educational play area a classroom with some form of STEM lessons (it seemed full when we visited so we didn't experience that part of the museum) and a gift shop.
The entry fee is low and we did have fun, just don't expect a lot of content.
Arnie Vasquez
Museum very small, not really overjoyed that we went there and visited. My daughter seemed to like it, but didn't protest when we wanted to leave after 45 minutes. Maybe it will grow more in the future and become bigger and better, hopefully.
Samantha Brown
Fun little activity to do before we started our drive home. We spent about 90 minutes there as my children decided to do the scavenger hunts. Neat little place. It was small so don't plan on spending a while there unless you have toddlers that can go wild in the little tree jungle gym type thing.
Alex Bogherie
Definitely lacking compared to other science museums in the country I have been to. Only 2 fairly small exhibit rooms. What they had was interesting and my children had a good time for about an hour. Definitely not something to go for the day or anything. Nice staff and clean exhibit space. They had a scavenger hunt for the kids that was well thought out as well.
Michelle Chapman
It's okay. Might keep your kids busy for an hour. Signed for kids under age 12. Very hands on. Three main areas 1)rocks 2)STEM 'lab' 3) main room with dinosaur, water ecosystem, tree, nano carbon
BIANCA GONZALEZ-SCHULTE
Fun spot to take the kids, especially when the weather isn't great. We enjoyed the exhibits and the interactive learning.
Michael Torbert
Fun little downtown museum. It’s pretty tiny, but has enough to spend a few hours. The employees are very friendly.
Liberty Newcomb-Macias
Very interesting place for young and older! Lots of interesting facts if you can keep your child's attention long enough, a fun scavenger hunt for every room in the building, with actual photos of each item you need to find! And when your done, take home some cool rocks of your own from the Gift Shop, among other things.
A Nelson (DZ Dog Mom)
Took my 3 year old and 1.5 year old, the museum was clean and had some beat exhibits but I'd say it's geared towards slightly older maybe 5 year Olds. And it's super tiny! Basically one main room with an interactive water table, sand dino pit, and climbing structure. And then a rock/mineral room. It was cute but didn't hold their attention long. Wish it was bigger.
Trina Honer
Small, but fun for the kids and adults. Lots of hands on activities!
daniel regan
Fun museum with plenty of stuff to keep kids entertained for a couple hours. Friendly staff who were engaged with my daughters from the moment we got to the desk.
Megan Posey
It was smaller than expected. It was only two rooms, and for the whole family was $40. The gem room was nice, scavenger hunt for the kids to complete and win a prize. The other room was basically a few dinosaur fossils and some interactive toys for kids.
I was disappointed, but it was fun.
Hannah England
My husband and I had such a great time at the AMOS museum. We were looking for something to do in downtown Asheville and while this was geared towards kids, it was fun for us as well. Would definitely recommend!
Diane W.
Fun and informative! If your kid loves science..it's a must stop!.
Rebecca Holloway
This is such a cute little children's museum! It is definitely one of the smaller children's museums that we have been to, but the price of admission reflects that. I do believe that they are in the process of adding some stuff to it. Even though it is small it is very well done. And it has some exhibits that are geared toward older kids, so if you have children that are a wide variety of ages, this is a place that you can take all them. They have an indoor playground too that the kids enjoyed playing on. Overall, this isn't somewhere that we would visit frequently, but it was worth it the one time we did go.
Savannah H. Faile
Hands on learning experiences for all ages, my 20 month old, 7yr old and 9 yr old children all enjoyed it! The STEM project room was great, the scavenger hunts were awesome, the gift shop itself was a gem! The kids could have spent the whole day there! The staff were very engaging and great with the kids!
Christa Faison
I went with my daughters school here on a field trip so I am glad I didn't have to pay full admission price for myself (her $ was 10 & my $ was 5) or I would have been disappointed for the cost. There is 3 rooms, 2 small rooms and 1 medium sized room. 1 room has rocks and gems nicely displayed and activity sheets to do to better educate while observing. The other small room was a science experiment room that I don't know is for planned trips only or if they do something for every visitor. The biggest room has books around and is the "play" area. There is a small playground PLEASE USE CAUTION HERE!! 4 out of 16 CHILDREN BUMPED THEIR HEADS TO THE POINT OF CRYING. There is a padded block building area, a dinosaur fossil area where they can brush sand, a displayed dinosaur, a drawing area, another more complex block area, a station with sand that shows sea level and mountain range heights (the coolest hands on activity they have in several opinions) a hurricane air contraption (commonly seen at malls and yes you have to pay a couple bucks for it too and its half the time the mall gives) and one more station. It seems that Listed a lot but honestly unless your kids will play on a station over a few minutes, you would be done in 30 minutes. A good fair admission price would be $2-$3. Over that is not worth it.

Centrally located museum in downtown Asheville. GREAT for kids. We stopped in while meandering downtown after lunch one day and had a great time. Fantastic gift shop with lovely crystals. Bought a bunch for myself and as gifts. Not much parking, the nearest deck is your best bet.
Plan to spend an hour or so here after lunch nearby.
Kevin Jones
Small science museum, but fun for little kids. The interactive surround screen space satellite and bird's nest tree house playset were the most fun for the kids. The dinosaur and mineral exhibits are interesting as well.
Aeliyra Kendall
Went here with my 3 year old. Even though this place is small it is hours of fun for little ones at a reasonable price. They have plans to expand and are just waiting for space to open in the building. Staff is super friendly bathrooms are clean. Please swing by and support these guys.
Emili McMakin
This is turning into a great little museum. I can't wait until it is finished. My 8 & 10 year old had a great time. Right now it is geared a bit more towards the 8 and younger. But it is still under construction.
Dana Hinson
We enjoyed our time here, albeit it was a tad small for my 10 year-old's interest, but still fun and educational. I overheard one of the staff members speak of a future expansion, so be on the lookout for the possibility of that.
Shawn Odette
A fun and inexpensive place to take the kids to enjoy a hands-on learning experience. Activities include: microscope and slides, fossils, magnets, puzzles, gem and mineral exhibits, a kids play center, a scavenger hunt, and so much more.
Karen Riddle
This was great for my 4 year old grandson. He was not as interested in minerals as I was but it was a great visit for all of us.
Gabrielle Witmer
This is a wonderful little museum. It is small, but it is very thoughtfully and carefully organized and presented. Our two kids (4.5 and 1.5) spent 2 hours here and had to be forced to leave because it was well past their lunch time. This museum is geared toward younger children, but there are many different areas and activities to keep their interest! We had a great visit and will absolutely return on our next trip to Asheville.
Sean Budgin
Great smaller museum. Fun tree habitat climb structure and the stem lab was awesome. Kids (7,5&4) spent the most time climbing, “learning” in the flowing river and experimenting with the ferrofluids and magnets.
cynthia Hull
A great educational experience. Great gift shop prices with 10% for teachers. As a homeschool mom thus was a tremendous blessing . Kids had a blast !
Angel
Such an amazing learning space with caring staff! The educational scavenger hunt is a must! It's small but really packs so much in. We will definitely be visiting again and again!
Marsh The Fox
Small, but packed with stuff. Mostly geared towards small children, though the mineral gallery is quite impressive, considering how small the place is.
Grace Ortiz
Great place for kids. Kind of small but full of activities.
Jon Orbach
It's a small place but they have some good stuff (like the minerals and a super cool solar system exhibit) and the staff are super nice and helpful!
Anna Rozsakhatska
Great place. I have a lot of videos from there can't download them for some reason. Fun fun fun for kids and adults.
jmandmc Carter
Super cute place with great staff working kids programs. Little small yet, but they are growing. Our favorite by far was the topographic sand table. Mesmerizing. The different stations kept my 3 year old hoping and happy. Hope the prices stay low and reasonable. Looking forward to this place's full potential!
sarah hendricks
AMOS is a wounderful place to visit! The exhibits are interesting and they have a wounderful gem and mineral collection. And the staff are terrific.
Donna c
This was okay, very small and better for younger kids. Our daughter enjoyed it because she loves all things science, but compared to other science museum we have visited it was a 4 out of 10. The staff were extremely nice and welcoming.
Matteo Serena
What a great experience! My two daughters (3 and 6) spent two super engaged hours exploring each of the exhibits. Small museum but great fun and learning.
Jennifer Long
Super small but amazingly friendly. Younger children will love it but this science Teacher had a blast! Scavenger hunts for the kids to get them to actually read at the exhibits instead of just looking at pictures and moving on. The rocks and minerals exhibit was great for grown-ups and the STEM lab was great too! Can't wait to see how they grow with the help of support from science lovin' folks!
Karissa Lusardi-Williams
It's small, but we'll thought out to be interactive and fun. Loved it.
Frank Navarro
Interesting. Great place for children, teenagers and adults. Impressed with the museum and the staff. Recommended.
Crystal Powell
Loved the crystals. My kids had a lot of fun!
Charles Green
Lots of interesting projects but only 3 rooms. It's a good 2-3 hour place for kids but not a half or all day thing for families.
Ty Fenton
The exhibits are very limited and not good at keeping smaller children’s attention. I would really love to see this museum redone perhaps using examples from other museum in the area like Hands On.
Ashleigh Lamb
My kids loved it. The website made it seem bigger then it was. But overall we had a great time.
Reba Boggs
My son had an amazing time. Wish there were more exhibits, but the ones they had were great. Even have a scavenger hunt you can do.
Linda Taylor
It's very small. A one room place. Parking is hard to find. Cost expensive for one dinosaur. These pictures are the whole Museum
Julia Ferguson
Not sure this little museum is worth the price, unless you have tiny kids and you're looking for an activity on a cold day. The gem exhibit is interesting, but overall definitely geared toward very young children. I understand they're planning an expansion, so don't count this little museum out.
Marie Sander
I thought it was very small but my two grandchildren, ages 10 and 6, had a really good time. More on the climbing apparatus then trying science itself. They did both enjoy the game where you found and identified different rocks, turned your sheet in and could then pick a polished rock and sticker of your choice . Also enjoyed the capsule where you got in and were exposed to winds as in a tornado up to around almost 80 mph. They loved that too.
Barbara Goldentyer
I appreciate that this place is not as well funded or large as the art museum, but they could make an effort to allow adults to appreciate what they have. They have a pretty neat mineral collection, but it cost $9 a person for about 10 minutes of exhibit going slowly. They warned us it was geared for children but as the Asheville science museum not the Asheville childrens museum that seemed somewhat wrong. I recommend a $3 fee for only the rock section to allow adults to visit while they develop to the point of having some other adult exhibits.
Amitola Halona
When my family and I walked in we were a little dissapointed at first. It was much smaller than anticipated, however, in such a small area they added alot of fun. Very affordable for any family to have a couple hours of fun while learning.
Joellen Reichenbach
Perfect place for children and adults can play together. Cute place.
Austin Nerby
An amazing experience for younger kids and very educational.
Janet Cole
This museum is still very new and has limited space but has done a wonderful job at using this space. Since it was just me and my husband I was made sure that I knew that most of the museum is catered to children, but both me and my husband can get very child like when it comes to science. We spent a few hours here, they have scavenger hunts for prizes that I think was amazing for kids and they have interactive spots to help children learn. I can not wait to see what they do once they get a bigger space to work with, excited to come back here!
Hannah Dowling
Small museum but perfect to keep the kids entertained for 2-3 hours- we even came
Back after lunch. Big favorite was the water feature .
annabelle
very fun, well directed and great for kids/learners of any age!
deneeb ruiz
I spent the whole morning there with my three years old who loved it. The price is reasonable. I have been in bigger children museums but they cost four times more. They have a great collection at the shop. Someone mentioned something about homeless, they were two when I went and they were just seating there, staying warm. I don’t get why people get annoyed at the sight of someone just trying to stay warm
Brittany Mullins
Pretty cool place. I definitely recommend if you have kids, if not don’t go unless you are a gem enthusiast. It was very interactive with a cool playground for kids. My daughter had such a good time there.
Brennen Betts
The exhibits, although few in number, looked interesting on your right as you enter and approach the counter for tickets. The staff was friendly, and the venue clean and inviting. Definitely a fun place for the lil ones, although at $8.50 per adult, I did not partake.
Shelby Lachmann
Small but packed with fun! My son, 7, and I stayed a few hours and could of easily spent half the day there. We are roadschooling so this was perfect for a rainy school day! Lots of info and activities to get into, hands on play and plenty of silliness. Highly reccomend. Its not a big space but if you take your time there's plenty to get into. Cool lil gift shop too.
Melissa Tucker
Kind of small and what not but they are new and they are trying and succeeding. Great for the under 7 crowd.
Whitney Lesnicki
We had a nice time, and it kept our toddler entertained for over an hour. Hands-on exhibits are great.
Don't set your expectations too high, though. This is a very small museum and shouldn't be compared to what's available in larger cities.
We hope to continue to support AMOS in the hopes that local patronage will help it to grow. Asheville needs places like this to help foster lifelong interest in the sciences.
Caitlynn Howell
This museum is amazing! Even for their soft opening there were so many pluses! Lots of exhibits and great hands-on activities for people of all ages!
Silvia Perez Fonticiella
Excellent collection. Great place to go with children
Brian Sawdust
We all expected more than we got here. About half the museum is gift shop, rocks, minerals and gemstones. The younger kids were not impressed. The climbing exhibit was fun for them, as was the small water table.
Joel Mittelstaedt
Nice place. Could use more male scientists pictures. Egalitarian politics have no place in science. Men aren't women. That's why they choose different careers. Women are drawn to people and men to things. Marxism is truly silly please take the high road in the future
josh williams
So much fun! Not the biggest science center but still packed with stuff and the staff was amazingly friendly! Definitely recommend to any and all ages!
Leila Scott
Awesome little Museum, a great place for kids or adults
Sara Monteith
The science museum is a great place for my 4 year old! I agree it’s small but they are constantly improving the space and looking to expand more.
We can easily spend at least at hour there and by the end, my son is worn out! The “tree fort” play space is one of the best indoor play spaces in Asheville. It’s great for a rainy day.
The staff is super helpful and friendly. And they have a really wonderful gift shop. Lots of great gifts for kids of all ages.
Joshua Harrison
This is the cutest science center! Staff are AMAZING and lots of cool stuff to look at! This is a small, child oriented center, so keep that in mind, but we found it enjoyable as adults as well!
Ashley R
It was inexpensive but super small, literally on 3 rooms. We had a good time though.
KellySean FL
We were only stopping on Asheville for the day and wanted to find something our young daughter would like in between brewery stops. The museum itself has a very small footprint, but manages to pack a lot of experiences into that space. The price was very reasonable. The employee at the desk was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and made sure we didn't miss a thing. Our 3 year old loved climbing around the tree house and exploring the other exhibits. Really nice gift shop too.
Becky H
I agree with the other folks in regards to the mask. I am vaccinated and still asked to wear a mask, my children did not. Said it was because it is considered an educational establishment. Reason kids have to wear masks in school is because they can’t be vaccinated, soooooo why does a vaccinated adult have to wear one?
This museum has been years in the making. Have to say, feel like for as much time and money spent on it, there should be more. My children were finished going through it in about 45 minutes. We did it all. They especially liked the nest and slide. If you are local, use a Zoom library pass, otherwise it is overpriced for what you get.
Steven Ullmer
Very small. It's all about science, yet they require masks, but not for kids. Makes sense, right? Viruses are picky.
They have a slide. Bring in the kids and one adult (save some money-overpriced) and enjoy the slide while the rest of the adults go to the bier garden for drinks.
The staff is actually great. If you have some real youngins, they will love the arts and crafts stuff.
Brandy Parris
Very small, but neat things to do. Would be much better if they had the space to expand it.
Mr Mac
Kids loved it so it definitely serves its purpose of being a fun, entertaining way to learn about science. The fact that the tree house is strong enough for an adult is actually pretty clever and convenient so children can play, plus learn with their parents or guardians.
I think the staff needs to do a better job of maintaining the accessories or toys though so the guests can actually enjoy all the activities to the fullest. I do love places like these though.. Keeps kids away from computers, games and social media which is much needed.
Jones Doom
Phenomenal museum. The lass at the counter named Abby was brilliant.
Antonio Harrison
A small place with not much to see. They have gem displays, a dinosaur skeleton, a hurricane simulator and a few other exhibits. My kids had fun and admission isn't expensive, but you really could get 8n and out of here in 20 minutes.
A K
Very small place, but good for kids
Krystal Hill
It's a small but growing museum that's aimed toward children 3-10years old. We brought our 14 month and he loved it! His favorite part was the Splash exhibit.
Jeff Wernecke
It's small, and a lot of the best stuff is closed for COVID, but they are doing the best they can with the small space. We had a 2 year old who had a blast. There was a science lab that would be great, but our little one wasn't ready for it.
I really enjoyed the mineral section, but that probably wouldn't interest most kids.
Sarah Reinhart
This little museum is great! It's the perfect place to get your brain on for little ones. Just enough information to get them interested but not overwhelmed. I loved the scavenger hunt they provide for learning, disguised as fun. They had easy ones for really little ones and more in depth for older kids. They can use their imagination and again learn engineering under the guise of fun by building a hand made boat and sending it "down the river" While we were there, they had a presentation from a real astronaut on space debris. Which we think would have been pretty cool, but we got there after it started and going in would have meant we would have to walk right in front of everyone including the speaker and that felt way to rude for us. So if they could rearrange the room for such things that would probably be better. They have a small climbing area as well. Over all it's a great place to get them interested and sharpen some skills and grab a bit more knowledge. NICK the guy that greeted was awesome too. His enthusiasm for science was electric and kids do take notice, so thank you Nick! We were happy we went. And spent about an hour.
Jonathan Wood
We have been to other museums with more to do inside for about the same price. There was 5 of us but 1 was free being under 2 but still cost us $30. There was a rock/gem section, 2 rooms with self guided activites and then another room with a treehouse climb, toddler pit and a splash zone. Staff were super friendly.
Noa Guttman
Not a big museum, but very interesting for both kids and adults and very versatile. You have an indoor playhouse for the more energetic ones and a lot of hands-on science experiments for the learning moments. My daughters both (2,6) liked the place a lot.
My personal favorite was their minerals section that showcases all kinds of rocks and minerals and also displays the toxic ones.
Jordan Miller
This was a great museum if you have kids under the age of 10. They have lots of activities to keep them entertained and to educate them on lots of different facts. The museum is small but they are trying to expand to reach more people and a greater age range. They are also able to host events and it makes for a unique events space.
Kevin Gard
Was okay, kids had fun. Was kinda small place.
Heather
I was expecting more. This place is only floor with 4 rooms, 1 being the gift shop.
With that being said my boys; 12, 10, and 6 had a lot of FUN. They made crafts, played, and created. One of the rooms was about geode/minerals/rare stones which was cool, especially since my 10yo is really into them.
I also wish they charged adults less.
Segall Dawkins
Cool place to take the kiddos. They can learn of different rocks and minerals, experience hurricane winds in the simulator, learn the water cycle and all other things science are incorporated. They have different hands on activities. This day they had volunteers help us make catapults. We used popsicle sticks, rubber bands and hot glue guns to get it done. I really enjoyed myself. I guess the only thing I would have wanted would have been more interaction during the tour just because I'm a nerd myself and like to hear those facts guides have stored away as well.
Kim Mitchell-Ayers
Was slightly surprised by small size of museum compared to their website impression. But realized quickly they are a start up and have big plans for growth. My 8yo had a great time and I enjoyed the scavenger hunt and STEM lab project we worked on. Very pleasant and knowledgeable staff.
Joey Parlegreco
This place is super awesome!!! I wish more people could put their phones down and get off social media for once and get out and have some fun at places like this! The gift shop is awesome and has all sorts of gadgets and projects. A lot of collectibles to look at and fun activities to do for not only kids but for adults too! Highly recommend this place for party's or just want to go do something interesting!!!!
Jeffrey DeCristofaro
Having been to this place twice, including quite recently yesterday, I can say that this is definitely a place you want to bring your kids if you want them to have a proper introduction not only to the natural history of North Carolina, but science as a whole. It's a small scale, but highly-detailed exhibit showcasing gems and minerals (including a small meteorite display), fossils and other sections that not only allows the public to gaze at past and present wonders our state's geological history has to offer, but also gives children a chance to participate in activities to enhance their minds and understand the importance of preserving their surroundings.
Furthermore, given the current ecological crisis we're facing, this has a special section dedicated to one of the earliest American environmentalists, Wilma Dykeman, and learning more about her here will inspire others to take up the guantlet of fighting for the Earth's protection. Don't expect the mammoth scale of New York's Museum of Natural History - this is a miniature version that is no less interesting and important, and it's an excellent stop for both residents and tourists in downtown Asheville who want to learn something special about the region. It's already undergoing expansion and what it has yet to bring should be just as intriguing as what's already on display, so if you're really interested, please consider paying a visit and also making a donation. I guarantee you won't regret it!
Charlene Scarlata
We went here for my son's birthday party because we had to wait two hours before he could go play his escape room adventure at Breakout. I didn't want to walk around in the heat of the summer with 6 boys and a female toddler. They all had a blast. There was a workshop going on that got us to build a ramp would allow a toy car to get from point A and land directly on point B. The Toddler enjoyed digging in the sand for pretend archeological play. Fun and inexpensive experience!
G G
Perfect for the 6 months-6 years age range. My crew loved the forestry playground, my little one loved the toddler nest and I was obsessed with the cartography/terra form sand projection. We stayed about 90 minutes and had a great time.
Heather Allen
Great play area for toddlers and kids, with some good educational exhibits for slightly older kids. Tree house with slide, fossil "excavation" under sand, a water table, squishy pit for toddlers. My 5 year old came for a STEM activity, ended up staying all morning, and coming back for 3 hours in the afternoon. We had to drag him away when they closed. Staff is super friendly and helpful.
elizabeth carver
We really enjoyed our visit. The lady at the front desk was very knowledgeable, helpful and sweet. It’s small right now but will be growing and we can’t wait to see the additions. We spent plenty of time considering what was available to explore. My kids are 12, 5 & 3 and they had the best time!
Friggen Wacko
This is a great place for young kids. Very interactive.
Amayrani Hinojosa
For a toddler & ages 6+ this is a fun place they get to play with water and have other small activities to do like color or go down the slide. And have a small area where they can play with soft blocks. I liked it but wish it was bigger and that it had more activities.
lisa kent
A wonderful place to take your children for fun that is educational. Perfect for rainy weekends or cold winter days. Our family enjoyed the hands on exhibits and my youngest daughter had a blast playing in the indoor play area. Fun for children of all ages and adults too!
Jon Jordan
You will want to visit it often enough to make a membership worth it. Great place for kids. The Museum makes good use of the available space. Cannot wait for them to expand.
David Edrington
Very cool museum with lots of hands on activities for kids to play. Also has labs, like DNA extraction that kids can do with supervision. Staff is very knowledgeable, nice and excited about science.
quantic flowers
Entertained two adults with massive ADHD, imagine what it'd do to your kids. Lady working the counter was super cool, entertained our babble about cool rocks for forty minutes.
10/10 got to stick my hands in the giant rock tub
Kelly Carlisle
Disappointing. Good for an hour or so on a rainy day but it is not very big - only two rooms - and the admission price is too high for as little as there is to do. Also, I would not recommend for older children; max. age in my opinion would be 8-9.
Evan Berry
Lots of potential and geared toward kids. BUT, they are just getting opened and not all of the exhibits are finished. They did only charge half price for admission, so I'd say it's fair for about an hour. Great for kids, not so much for adults.
Micah Chambers
(3&6)
My two children and I really enjoyed our visit to Asheville Museum of Science. We attended the Saturday morning activities, participated in a scavenger hunt, looked at all the fossils and other interesting items, survived the hurricane tunnel, and tinkered with all the other great hands on stations. All the staff was patient, polite, and accommodating with my kids and that's not always an easy task, so 2 thumbs up to the staff. If your looking for a cool, educational, informational and hands on place to spend a little time with your kids this is the place. We will definitely be returning!
Stephen Champaign
We visited on a weekday so it wasn't crowded. Because it's downtown it's not a large place. Themed for children, in my belief, up to say 10 years old. You can keep the kids busy for about an hour there.
Melody Hollinger
Young museum, does the best it can with the space it has; excited to see it grow with support from community members and tourists. Great for an hour or so of hands-on exploration!
Victoria Pennington
This place is pretty neat! Small but interesting, I suggest taking younger kids here, but honestly even my 13 year old enjoyed it!
josh beler
Awesome place to bring your kids to learn all about some of the basics of science! I'm an adult and I even had fun 😊 …
J S
It's an ok place to spend 15 to 30 minutes letting your kids going crazy.
Parents here do not choose to gain control of their children.
Instead they are bouncing off the walls like sugar gliders.
Only a handful of cool exhibits here.
They definitely need more....
Very small space as well...
Total museum may be 5,000 square feet.
Tori S
I wanted to love this place so much. While there are some cool interactive activities, the cost of admission does not reflect what you get to experience. The museum is very small and some of the activities aren’t in operation due to Covid. It would be cool if they did a locals price.
Devin Cordova
The museum may not be that big but its enough to keep me entertained for a while. My personal favorite section was the paleontology section
Alijah Glenn
Came in here with my girlfriend and we had an absolute blast. We did a rocks and mineral scavenger hunt, watched each others hair get blown around in the hurricane simulator, and I played with lots of curious little ones. The two ladies at the front desk were super friendly and helpful. Child or Adult, with a group or alone, plenty of good times to be had here.
Brassai Mustin
Way cool place for kids! We enjoyed the minerals area best!
Mary Thomasson
A small museum that packs a punch with plenty of activities for kids!
Chris Reece
It's really small and don't have alot to offer for the price of admission. It's still alright though. They have a pretty cool gift shop. But it's mainly just rocks and one dinosaur structure.
Brittany Gass
I'm between 3 and 4 stars but went with 4 because I see potential. The staff was super nice. My 7yo daughter loved it. It's small but packed with fun. The gift shop counts into the 3 rooms, so technically it's 2 explore rooms and gift shop. AMOS was very clean and well stocked with fun. I look forward to going back in the future and seeing how theyve grown. Pricing is.....ok. For what you pay for (plus paid parking in downtown Asheville) it was decent. Meter peaking plus admission for myself and daughter was $20 total.
Dylan Martin
Very fun and friendly environment. The space is small now but the quality of content and exhibits are top notch. The staff and owners are passionate and intelligent. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Admission is cheap. Help them grow because they are doing it right!
Eric Long
Geared more towards kids, but had a great time!
Douglas March
4.2/5 stars
Pro:
+Cute attractions
+Donation charge for admittance
+High quality exhibits
+Right in the heart of downtown
Con:
-Small venue (but understandable)
-More of a Children's Museum
This place is right in the middle of downtown between Vance Memorial and Pritchard Park. The museum is small but understandable due to the lack of space available downtown. The museum has a lovely gemology exhibit that rivals the Smithsonian Museum at Yale (CT). If you have kids then this would make a great afternoon activity.
Hannah Marina
Should be called a children's science museum and overpriced for the limited amount of activites. Also there was an outlet in the toddler play area without a cover. I asked for a cover up front which they gave me but still the outlet should be removed or covered with something better than the flimsy cheap plugs. My daughter had fun but since she is a toddler pretty much any activity is fun for her so that's not saying much.
Kayla Baskins
We came at Christmas and the museum wasn't finished. But my kids loved what was there! The rocks, the sound pipes, digging for dinosaur bones, the t-Rex, puzzles. And they had story time. It's gonna be pretty incredible once it's finished, and we can't wait because we will definitely be back!
Judy Aspelin
Fun! Perfect for kids up to age 5 I would say. My 1 year old and 4 year old has a blast! Great gift store too, and very nice staff.
Michelle Jerge
Offered reciprocity via our membership at MSI in Chicago. But even without, the prices are reasonable (maybe $5?). It's small but really worthwhile. A fun play house for older kids (2+). Neat little building areas with pipes and balls and an area blocked off for younger kids. A room full of beautiful minerals. A small gift shop with reasonable priced toys and rocks/minerals. We spent 2 hours there and bought a small town in the gift shop since it benefits the museum.
Betty Parris
Great for the children. My only negative is very limited seating for adults there while the children are playing etc. For a 80+ grandmother needs a seat whe spending 2hrs. there and the young ones not just playing but also learning.
Casey Corbin
Wonderful option for the whole Family in this area. Asheville is booming but with many of the same types of things over and over, this is a great escape for kids and adults alike . They also often have unique events that can appear to many different age groups. They may be "small" but mighty in heart, and great things do come in small packages :)
Jacob W
Wonderful staff and great exhibits. I'm excited to see where they go with the rest of it as they expand. More than worth it for the cost. We didn't come with children but the ones we saw were having a great time.
Vielka Allen
It was still under construction when we went so prices were half off... Otherwise it would have been too expensive for the experience. Took our 2 1/2 year old twins and they were too young for the exhibits and activities. We saw other very bored parents of little ones so we think this would be better enjoyed by kids maybe 4 years old and older.
Julia Howey
Giving 3 stars because its not much too it...my 4yr olds interest ran for only 45mins. Beware they are obsessed with mask wearing. Even if vaccinated after 1 hr being there without a mask an overly chipper lady approached us with masks stating we had too wear them.. hello , why not do this an hour prior, we refused mask and left . We were on the way out door anyway.
Kendell Villone
The store was so cute, loved the many different activities.
Morgan Shoaf
You can tell they are trying. The exhibits they have are interactive, but there aren't very many of them. It's most ideal for smaller children, but I really loved the interactive topography map.
Jordan Girard
The space is very small but we spent several hours here allowing the kids with us to interact in all the exhibits.
Ed Hawkes
Small museum, can be done quickly. We took our 2 year old Grandson and he enjoyed it Looked like other children were enjoying as well.
Steven Wasserman
I brought my kids and we really enjoyed ourselves. Yes, it there are only three rooms. Yes, it costs a little more than it probably should. But, we had fun, we learned quite a bit, and we played as a family.
David Hanson (David)
Rocks and minerals from all around the local area and the world also from beyond this world. Very small section about outer space.Small fossil section with a full dinosaur fossil also has a nice little gift shop. GREAT place to take the kids for a couple of hours.
Colleen
Great little museum! Geared toward youth but they do have a fantastic mineral/gemstone display! The woman who greeted and helped us was very enthusiastic and sweet :)
julie gutman
Kids had a lot of fun, but it's pretty small, not a huge number of things to do. Need 2-3 hours to exhaust activities depending on your kids level of interest
Jim Brobst
Hesitate to rate it a 3 because it's a pleasant, friendly, clean play and learning area. However, it is not a really a science "museum." The expectation that it is, lessens appreciation for what it really is: small, mostly interactive play and learning exhibit.
Bonnie Robinson
We have visited this multiple times with kids (ages 5 and 7) and they always have a blast. There's a surprising amount to see and do in such a small space. I can't give it 5 stars because it is overpriced based on the size.
Garnet Morgan
Great for kids of all ages. Small enough place to spend time with each exhibit and not get exhausted. Awesome "tree house" climbing structure for kids. Very interactive.
Karen Tracy
Fun little museum. Great place for active kids. Interactive science exhibits. Good value. While mostly aimed at kids, there are also a few exhibits aimed for curious adults. Inexpensive parking available across the street.
susan ward
Has improved since opening but adults should not be charged at all! Or entrance fee should be lowered since everyone has to purchase a ticket. If I were clueless and went in without children I would sincerely demand a refund. Staff is super nice though!
Emily A
This is a small but nicely run museum.
(Edit: 3 stars is a positive review. It means a place is good. 4 stars = great and 5 stars = basically perfect (this is rare). In short, if you are nearby this is a good place to visit.)
Rachel Morris
Perfect place for a rainy day with school aged children. My 7yo and 12yo enjoyed their time.
Dara Grosso
It isn't as great as I would hope it would have been after being renovated. It's very small and has a few core things that were cool. Like the water table and the playhouse. Just doesn't seem to keep the attention of kids for very long.
K.M. Liebscher
This is a wonderful place, especially for young kids. It's like a big playground with a lot to learn. A place to come back to, again and again.
Stephanie Price
Beautiful science museum for all ages with presentations and interactive exhibits. Worth the visit!
Ruth Grolman
Fun activities for toddlers and lots of fun things to grow into as he gets older. It was smaller than some science centres but definitely a fun way to spend a morning out of the cold or rain.
David Duncan
Cute for the kids. Worth at least ONE visit. The young lady working the cash register was very excited, and into her job for the kids. They have scavenger hunts for different ages of children.
Laken Newton
Made for children 3-9 it's one floor with only two main rooms. We we're excited and thought it would be large then it was. But still had fun.
ceiara cartony
We started a homeschool class series AMOS is hosting and they did an excellent job! My daughter absolutely loved it and always enjoys the museum exhibits. The staff is always so friendly and informative!
Teresa Karson
I visited this museum in the first few weeks of its opening (my review is a bit late) it was interesting. I give it a three because the museum was very small in size and displays were minimal. I hope they have grown and will visit the next time I'm in Asheville.
Megan Segbers- Eichenberger
Great place, lots of fun for kids of all places. Smaller than I expected.
Jacob White
Staff is friendly, but the museum itself is pretty small. Interesting gems and minerals exhibit. The rest is geared toward toddlers and early elementary
Aaron Esmark
The exhibits here are fun. Not the largest of places, but was worth the effort of coming here.
Chris B
There are lots of activities geared to smaller kids, but my 13 year old loved it, too (though he is a nerd, so ymmv)
Rachel Scott
This was a cute place! Great for ages 5-8 I would say, lots of things to read and learn about. Would make a fun family field trip. It was super clean and the employe was very freindly
Austin
My 2 year old enjoyed it. Kind of small. Hands on activity for slightly older kids led by staff looked cool.
They were making origami.
Kate Benson
A cute science museum! My 4 year old spent a couple of hours here playing in the treehouse and with the water table and sand. It's not a big science museum! An hour or two is more than enough time!
Faye Cress
Very nice, small but growing. Great programs.
Breana Sylvester
Really nice people, and beautiful local rock and get exhibit. My son had a fun time in the blue up planetarium, climbing in the nest, and learning about the water cycle.
Kayla Hobbs
It was a blast for,my 3 year old, 9 year old found it interesting but lost interest pretty fast. Amazing to hear they will be expanding into the wells fargo building!
Vickie Flowers
Fun up and coming museum.
Sheree Harper
Went here with a group that I work with, we all work one on one with people on the spectrum. They were not helpful on giving us workers a discount nor were they very organized. They didn't have but one worker out on the floor so it was nice to walk through look at a couple things but not the best for the price and parking is hard.
Christa Flores
For a small not for profit learning center, this place is doing a lot with a little and serving a great need for more science and engineering education in Western North Carolina. Awesome spot for families with children ages 1-5
T.A Simonelli
Amazing! Mostly for kids but they do cool excursions into local nature stuff and I went on a cool bat viewing date through my membership with them! Theyre very nice!
Laurel Hendrickson
Smaller museum with a nice rock collection. Geared for younger children although out 13 yo enjoyed it.
josephine cap
I came in out of curiousity, and was certainly not disappointed! I love the simple and very detailed approach for design. The ladies are very helpful and kind. They welcomed me in and made me feel at home. Thank you for a valuable experience!
Jessica Varney
My girls, ages 3 and 8, adore this place and could spend hours here. It may be small, but packs a punch in terms of fun and education. We love it!
erik roberts
This is a great family day trip. We had the whole place to ourselves and our son, Matthew, had a blast. Highly recommend checking this out if you are within an hours drive or a local.
Hunter Reale
Went in and had a blast! The sand and water hands on sections were really fun! Plus the gift shop is well priced and has super cool stuff
David G
As others have said, it is small, but there is a decent amount of activities. Took a group of 5 plus a baby for $40, not too bad.
Michael Levine
Fun place for kids. Not very big, but worth a stop in for one to three hours. Free for us cause we have fernbank membership in Atlanta
Rhiannon Hansing
From the moment we stepped in to this budding museum, we knew we had hit the jackpot. There is so much to discover, and I can't wait to see how they grow!!
Jane Licurse
What a fun place for our 3.5 year old! We loved the climbing area and the topography exhibit! Very friendly staff too.
Ivan Porter
Small but awesome location. Had a volunteer come in and do a star show in his portable planetarium. Spent about 2 hours. Kids loved it
William Holder
Great for kids and their parents.
Janet
Great, little museum. Very hands-on. We loved the water cycle part - altering the flow of a river and sending rubber ducks down to see the changes.
Sean Dunlap
Wonderful for 6 and 4 year old. Our kids were talking about this museum for weeks. Gem test was a hit as was Mars Rover.
Christina Walker
It's small but growing! Definitely geared towards elementary children but still fun for all ages.
Adam Webb
Small science museum tucked into downtown Asheville. Definitely worth a look if you have younger children!
Brooke Robertson
Only their soft opening. Not a lot of exhibits. Very kind staff. Our kids had fun. We only stayed about an hour.
kristen haskins
My daughter had fun, but it's simply to small to justify the price. Adults having to pay stinks when it's geared towards children.
Kevin Schmidt
Great experience! My child had a great time. The staff was very friendly and welcoming! Definitely will come back.
Destiny Black
A small cute kid focused museum. The collection of gems and geodes were lovely and the staff was very helpful.
Daniel C
Extremely small. Great for kids if you're looking to burn 15 minutes. Staff was super friendly, though.
Vincent Bell
Small but growing educational center for children. You will spend less than one hour with the exhibits and educational areas.
Chris Burchfield
We had fun it is geared more towards children but my girlfriend and I are just big kids lol! They have hands on things to do not just to look at.
Matthew Griffin
Very small, but very nice. We didn't pay to get in, as we used out astc passport cards. Would 100% go again.
Lauren T
Very small. Only 2 exhibits and a handon lab but still very pretty fun and they had a very nice gift shop
Ryan McGovern

Great place to take the kids.
Shahed Uddin
Beautiful place!
Amy Kugali McWilliams
Amazing place for children and so affordable! Check our their calendar, they had a free ornament making workshop when we were there. Loved it
Imago 3d
Good place for smaller kids. But parking is abysmal. But that's all of Asheville. Parking here sucks, because there are too many people and not enough road space.
Sifron Benjamin
Great museum to check out in downtown Asheville. It's still being completed but the geology / rocks section looks complete and is really interesting.
Definitely worth a visit!
Joseph Bradford
The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and the prices are great. Bring in your little archeologist or geologist and watch them have a blast. Great for all ages.

Quinten Parker
Great place for kids, not alot of attractions for adults to see.
Alexander and Natasha Groden
The exhibits are informative and well done, but it was crowded even with a small number of people inside.
Page Weil
Perfect place to spend a few hours with young kids. Cheap, lots to do, helpful staff.

While focused on educating K-8, the exhibits focused on rocks and minerals are amazing, gorgeous, and insightful about the history of mining in the Appalachia for the past 200 years.
Steve Mika
