Reviews of Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum

Easy to get to and huge parking lot. Admission prices were reasonable, for out of state visitors it's $6 per adult. We enjoy walking around the museum. There was many items on display as well as an interactive section for kids and adults too! I'm 32 and enjoyed this neat wall projection and air flow thing. There is a gift shop and thr ability to rent out space for events as we saw a wedding reception that was setup in a different part of the building.

The Balloon Museum is a treasure of Hot Air Balloon memorabilia. Leave plenty of time to explore...the kids museum is great...as an adult we loved the hands on things to do! We were here for a fund raiser event during Balloon Fiesta. As fund raisers go..this one was a 3 out of 5 stars. Other than the ability to see the balloon field...should things go as planned...not much to say about the remainder of the event. $$$$ and some what disorganized based on my experience with DARE, Winter Ball, Public TV, MADD and other fund raising dinner events of this nature.

Went to a dinner event on the observation deck during BalloonFiesta and it was awesome. It rained later during the night and there was a shelter in place for the fiesta park, that did put a small damper on the event, but overall it was still an awesome event and evening.
There was a decent amount of traffic and delay getting to the venue (to be expected during BalloonFiesta), but there was plenty of parking space (with event card displayed).
The museum itself is pretty cool and have some interesting display… if you like anything to do with ballooning, this place is definitely worth a visit.
Jen Steel
Very well done museum. Worth the very affordable admission price. Sweeping views of the balloon fields. Quiet and peaceful now but come the 1st of Oct it become as ansolute zoo with over 800,000 visitors to Balloon Fiesta.
Loved learning about the history of the events humble beginnings and nice interactive displays. And most of all. A fun giftshop!!
Alejandro T
A must see museum all about hot air balloons, weather and aviation. There's a lot of cool little interactive exhibits as well. Perfect for a day trip.
Olga Davydova
I love this place! I learned a lot about balloons. Very interesting exhibits - photos, models, real things. A large section of interactive entertainment that will appeal to children and adults
Abdullah Toor
A unique museum to Albuquerque. Starts with the beginning of ballooning. Thats the 1780s! Going up to the modern day and the ballooning expeditions which happen recently. The first ballon to journey across the pacific was a joint operation between Japan and the US in 2015. Now why don’t events like these ever break international headline!?!?
Adventure Krewe
Check this web site for free days or plan on the $6 donation to see some nice exhibits on super balloons, history, weather and really some interesting stuff even if you just have a casual interest in balloons.
They have a nice view over the field.
The gift shop has the official pins and medallions for all 50 years of balloon fiesta's. And several great exhibits of previous pins and medallions.
If you have an hour to kill in the area highly recommend the stop
Joan Smith
Although it was a bit cool to be swimming this water looked so inviting and crystal clear. Would be so much fun in the heat of the summer.
Kayla Whittaker
Came for a free event and got to explore a bit. The exhibits were beautiful and the kids section was awesome. Our kids had a blast.
Juanita Crago
An amazing museum it is worth stoppinv to take in all the hot air ballons from the past and the history they tell. Loved it
Nosotros Comemos
Very well-organized collection of balloons. You can easily track the history of balloon flights with interactive presentations. Don’t miss the annual fiesta observation dinner at the deck.
Erin Clinch
What a wonderful place!! Lots of intriguing exhibits and fun hands-on experiences! We will definitely be back!
Toua Yang
Lots of history and details to fill your hot air balloon curiosity. They have an observation deck to watch the balloons take off as well.
Meredith Bullock
Highly recommend! I was visiting from out of town and usually do not enjoy museums but this one was great. It was only $6 (kids under 5 are free) and definitely worth it. You can spend twenty minutes or two hours just reading and learning about balloons. The museum is very well done with interesting and informative exhibits that feature interactive technology and easy to read items. There is a kids section that was extremely fun and educational for the kids. Lots of activities to learn about balloon, wind, chase teams, and more! I would recommend this for kids and adults!
Thomas Gomez
I didn't expect to be so excited and have such a good time. Don't judge a book by it's cover. 😅 this place is AMAZING! I especially loved the photo ops and interactive areas.
Ramon Pazos
Is a good place to walk and chill. Lot of cool stuff
Brian Tran
Only one of its kind, entire history of hot air balloon even with interactive games for kids. The building is beautifully built and well thought out for the artifacts and event, such as observation deck to the launches. Then shop has interesting items, actually done by local artists so there are not so common or kitschy items. An excellent experience and very friendly staff.
Annette Hansen
This place was so cool and made me want to save my money for a hot air balloon ride. So much I didn't know about the history of this and that they were even used in a war. Very interesting museum.
Tom Spurlock
It's a must see if you're at the balloon fiesta. However it's not worth visiting if your passing through town. $6 entrance tells you there's not much to see, it's just ok. An hour is all you need to see everything.
Jennifer Lenander
The Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is a glorious venue. We visited the museum for the ascension for the Hot Air Balloon Festival and experienced glorious views. Beyond that, the museum itself included so much great information about the history of hot air balloons, including the evolution of hot air balloons. The kid activities within the museum was fantastic.
Elizabeth Hughes
This was our first year attending the balloon festival and the museum is a must to visit
Tara Stanton
The whole museum is amazing, very interesting things to look at regarding the history and making of the balloons. Balloon fiesta is one of the most amazing things you can ever see, people come from allover the world to see it. Highly recommend checking out the museum and gift shop. Good place for children. Awesome facts you can find to take back home with you.
Don Bumgarner
Nice museum with history of flight even before airplanes. There's a history of derigibles and airships (a.k.a., zeppelins) we hear of only very rarely. The history goes from the distant past to present. This is worth your time!
shelly smallwood
Great educational place with plenty to look at and enjoy!
Lynn Morris
I'm surprised at how much information was available to us. Way more than I would have guessed about balloons. This is a must for Albuquerque. You could easily spend the day. Fantastic visit.
Jacquelyn Langdon
Really glad I went while visiting Albuquerque. It had a lot of things I never knew that were very interesting. They had an exhibit for weather phenomena that was closed currently for covid.
Cecilia Swetland
Fun museum with so much history about ballooning.
Mra Larocco
The staff are amazing. We weren't expecting the initial greating including directions with a little bit of what to expect. Then we were given additional information and what to expect. The tribute to Bob Hope was touching and gave enough shout out to our troops with the respect they deserve. The airplane, bomb, energy uses exhibit are spot on and add to feeling/intensity of this transformative science.
This national treasure visit should also include White Sands National Park. Make sure to read the signs about the missile testing and miscellaneous debris which should not be touched. Our visit did not include anything but amazing views and an incredible time visiting the area.
Sarge & Sadie RV
A most awesome display of ballooning in all aspects of its history. For a mere spectator it was the icing on the cake. I've thought of this event for 30+ years and to drive up and see this modern large building dedicated to my thoughts was fantastic. With ample parking and easy access, my self tour began. Left to explore I spent much more time than had expected. Ty for a great 15 days Albuquerque.
carl tabor
This is a nice museum about ballooning. And that is what you get. Right next to the balloon fiesta park. Lots of displays. Lots of placards of information. A 4D ballooning experience movie (blow wind on your face and shakes the seats while you watch a giant screen). Fun. Tons of space for a an event too.
Mad Hatter (Gio)
I visited this place with my girlfriend today. By far one of the coolest museums with many exhibits to explore. If you go with family this plenty to do and things to see. I'm from New York and let me tell you this.
John Victor “JV” Ubana
This museum is okay, during Covid-19... Since majority of the exhibit is not really available, even the $6 entrance fee doesn't make sense.
Ash R.
Great museum and is never very busy (outside of balloon fiesta time). My kids love the super fun interactive exhibits!
Henry Farkas
Very nice museum for people who are interested in the history of lighter than air flight. They have items from things everyone knows about and things most people have never heard about.
They also have a nice 3D movie. Unfortunately, the movie is a promotion for a hot air balloon sightseeing company.
They don't have a cafe, and I didn't even find a gift shop. And they don't have enough places for disabled persons like myself to sit down and rest.
amy dixon
cute museum with a variety of things to see. It was neat learning about what they use to go with balloons and all the people that have tried different things. Like women use to parachute out of balloons holding onto a wooden ring attached to the parachute. Holy cow. Also was neat to learn about things from the Albuquerque balloon fiesta. They also do things for teachers if they want to take their class there. The people were really nice
M G
Cool museum, there's a lot more to ballooning than I knew.
D. M Romero
Took the 2 yrb old grandson, he had fun. We almost missed the children's corner!! Only recommendation is to add a sign pointing to it, he washed to stay for hours there.
Kristi Betts
We had a lovely time here. Interesting information about hot air balloons. Nice gift shop in which to purchase a variety of hot balloon items.
Marilyn McCord
Beautiful museum with everything you want to know about hot air balloons. Pictures, videos, balloons and other things to see and do. Wonderful gift shop.
Vig
I actually really enjoyed the museum way more than I thought and it is truly a incredibly well done museum. The installations are high quality and there's a good mix of interactivity. I would say my biggest drawback was the lack of docents. Felt a little too self guided and I had questions with no one to ask. But still totally go because it's a weird and fun thing with a lot of unique history and weather facts!
Aaron N
If Google allowed for an extra star to be given, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to give this place one. I recently journeyed into the International Balloon Museum on a late Tuesday afternoon to kill some spare time. What made my visit unique was that I had the entire museum to myself which allowed me to explore the museum uninterrupted for nearly two hours.
What can I say about this place? It is perhaps Albuquerque's finest museum. It is well funded, informative, organized, clean, interactive, and state of the art. The high standard of this museum as well as its substantial size is what took me back the most. For a 5 dollar entry fee ($6 for out of state residents) you certainly get far more than your money’s worth.
Although the museum is self guided. Areas are nonetheless clearly marked and exhibits are well explained to visitors on nearby plaques/posts. From the history of early ballon flight in Western Europe, exploration attempts across the Arctic ice, to how balloon and related weather technology are utilized today. The museum does a fine job in presenting how ballooning has been relevant in the past and continues to be in the current year.
In addition to this, the main exhibition era in the center front of the building (that overlooks balloon fiesta field) showcases an impressive display of life size exhibits. Allowing visitors to get a true sense of the grandeur that encompasses ballooning. The museum gift shop near the front exit of the building is also worth venturing into. It offers are large array of balloon and New Mexican themed nicknacks and local artwork. Staff are also friendly and a number of the merchandise available for purchase is reasonably priced.
The International Balloon Museum is definitely what I would describe as a hidden gem of the city of Albuquerque. It displays pride in both its presentation of itself and of the cities most identifiable trademark. If a tourist or a local of the duke city who has never visited. The Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Museum is a huge must see attraction.
Brian Eagan
Beautiful, well organized, well maintained exhibits. Cute gift shop. Great views of Balloon launch field.
K Falwell Mens
Fun, interactive and informative museum. I learned so much and had a blast! I highly recommend a stop here.
Riann Martinez
The Balloon Museum has a room full of newer interactive exhibits geared towards kids, as well as several stationary exhibits. Clean, welcoming environment. A great way to learn about the history of ballooning and ballooning in New Mexico.
Taylor Delp
Interesting. Fun. Great value!
Teaches you about hot air balloons creation, timeline, the people who operate them, and the weather that surrounds us :) I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
anthony temer
Great place to catch up on the art of ballooning., now during balloon fiesta week
Anne Swatfigure
My first.visit and so much history about ballooning. Beautiful location great views and overlooks balloon launch site. Lots of free parking, on Alameda near.I-25.
Pamela Hermes
Went there with a tour group with the VIP experience, breakfast was included, they had an omelet bar and a buffet line. Everything was good. Had awesome views,
access to a patio, the full grounds, golf carts that would take you to the balloon field the views of the Balloon Fiesta were awesome got some great pictures, didn't have to deal with the crowds. Don't know what pricing was because our tickets were included with our tour. Got some great pictures due to being away from the field slightly. Was a beautiful day always wanted to see this, was worth the trip.
S Aragon
They have fun days where the kids get to learn new things, see dances, have reading time. Great experience for kids on a field trip for sure but you do run out of things to do quickly. I had to let my group run around outside for a bit to let off some of their energy.
Leilani Rast
Took 2 year old grandson to story time (9:30) for first time. He liked it. Will definitely be taking him again. It's every Wednesday (I believe) at 9:30 & 11?. The lady who does the story time is absolutely wonderful.
Katie Hall
Simply awesome! We didn't get to go through the whole place, saving the 2nd floor for another visit! The lady's in the gift shop were friendly and helpful...
Lori McAfee
Very fun- whether you are a balloonist or not. Lots of great displays and history. A good variety of artifacts, good explanations and storytelling. Worth a stop for kids and adults..
Katia Sakharova
I was surprised to see such a cool modern museum! Everything looks so good!
They also have the gift shop there.
I came in to check the drone flying event.
So apparently fpv drone/plane pilots can come over to fly in that park.
That's a very cool thing that they promote that hobby!
Vermithrax Pejorative
I went to the Ballooning Museum expecting a quaint museum, with an abundance of Balloon Fiesta merchandise. I was pleasantly surprised. This museum has a wide array of information and artifacts covering not only the history of ballooining and the fiesta, but also displays that give insight into the space program as well.
Kimberly Andujo
This is a very unique experience, especially during Balloon Fiesta. Whether you are a visitor in our great city of Albuquerque or a wonderful resident, this is an informative and delightful place to go!
Draugadrotin n
One of a kind museum. Exhibits the history and science behind ballooning. The field behind the museum hosts the world's largest balloon festival every year in early October. Glad I visited ! Recommended this place to everyone.
Matt Dzierbun
Great place to take the family. There are lots of interactive activities here. Baloon history and memorabilia dating back to pre ww1, cool stuff. I think we paid around $5 per adult.
Rose or Erik Basarich
Great museum about hot air balloons and their history. We went on Sunday after church during free admission which made the whole experience even better for my family.
Tom Gilbert
Very interesting exhibits if you are interested in ballooning, but takes patience to navigate as the intended circulation pattern was difficult to discern. I'd go back though.
HerbnKathyRV
Lots to see about the history of ballooning, from the beginnings in France in 1700's through wartime use of balloons, around the world expeditions and ballooning into the stratosphere. Amazing.
Jess Bender
This is a gem! Instructional, historical and timely, especially w/50th. Very visual and open. Our visit was very laid back and allows you to seek out everything twice.
It's now going to be destination for anyone visiting abq. That's how impressed I was! Helped that it was a unique free day, but it is not expensive.
Erica Ramirez
This is a wonderful museum! So much interesting info about the balloons and other flying machines and fun stuff for (all us) kids to do!!
Katherine
You'd never guess the amount of history there is behind ballooning. Very informative and engaging!
Anthony hill
My kids absolutely love this museum. We go at least once or twice a month. Very inexpensive!
Lawrence Talahongva
Awesome museum! So much information and to see. Loved every wall, exhibit and model! Went 2 days so much to see and read! Will have to go and see the hot air balloon festival! Very fun and entertaining!
Natalie Dottle Mitchell
Cute, small museum, probably took 1.5-2.5 hours. 3 stars because I felt lost, there didn't seem to be clear directions. If you're like me and want that, be sure to ask for a map or advice on what order to see things.
Also, did not seem very well kept. Many displays were in need of service, but everything was clean.
Keir Bandy
Amazing museum. More eyes distractions than reading and that's the way it should be! Can't wait to go back! Very friendly people.
Erica Pigeon
Fun place for the family. Sundays offer NM residents free admission from 9-1.
Philip Trueax
If you are in Albuquerque, this is probably the best museum in town! The displays are realistic and often interactive. Children will love it, but so will adults.
Carl Boeke
Loved it, a huge display of balloons and history. New Mexico had a large part in promoting ballooning.
Chris Vacanti
Loved the museum. Wasn't too pleased w Lynn the curator who chastised us for touching the glove out front as she hastily walked by. I did leave my number w the office to speak w her but she never called. I'd expect more professionalism from her.
Peter R. PIne
We arrived at 4am on Wed and Thurs. Good parking, no lines at the gate, electric scooters readily available.
Brent Jacobsen
This museum sits on the park where the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is held every year starting on the first Saturday of October. There are fascinating displays regarding the history and record-setting achievements related to hot air and gas ballooning. Ballooning has a longer history than most may realize and has contributed greatly to science over the centuries. I particularly liked the history related to ballooning in Albuquerque and the key balloon pilots and residents whose passion and vision helped create this amazing event.
Frances Lupoe
Very fun & interesting! Great history info. A must see!
Joe Kotrlik
Nice Balloon Museum. One part was closed while we were there. The early exhibits were kind of boarding but the last two-thirds of the exhibit were very interesting. The movie was also very good. Certainly worth the price of admission.
P. K.
The balloon museum in Albuquerque is a must go!! This year is their 50th anniversary too!
Highly recommend going here!
There are so many awesome facts and cool balloon facts and history!
The people at the museum went above and beyond to talk about some of the history too!
David Wittrock
This was a lovely side trip. Inexpensive, charming volunteers, and displays that really explain not only the history of
but the modern use in sport ballooning. Good for adults and children. Lastly, a great souvenir shop.
Kathy Stilz
Wonderful history of the use of balloons in America and the International Balloon Fiesta. Beautiful displays.
Andy Shoup
Great place to learn the history of Ballooning and how the Balloon Fiesta got its start and about the Albuquerque Box phenomenon
Christine H Hannibal
Interesting balloon use information, history and displays. The kids area was very cute, educational and fun. Displays were well done and the large balloons with baskets were colorful. Gift shop had some great items. Entrance price was very reasonable. Fun to visit. Lots of parking. Easy to find and get to.
Chris Ladra
Excellent museum with plenty to explore and enjoy
Suzanne Holzer
The hot air balloon museum was extremely nice. Absolutely love all the history connected with the balloons and how things came into play throughout the years. Great displays and explanations of what was taking place.
Was a sad bit disappointed that they didn't have an area with current balloons for a display showing how they are all put together in today's technology.
Eddie Wouters
Fun little museum. Great involving displays for kids.
brenda romero
Nice museum.
Very informative.
I did learn a lot about balloons.
Amanda Rachau
Cool place to take your kids. They do storytime on Wednesdays for the kids and it's a great activity!

Interesting for a hour or two. Learned a lot about the history of ballooning, weather, and balloon related records. Most interesting was the Japanese WWII balloons sent to bomb the US.

Great experience learning about ballooning, early aviation, the sport of ballooning and science and history!
My children remember visiting this museum at a very long age and wanted visit again when passing through Albuquerque as late teenagers.
The museum is affordable and even free on Sundays when we visited.
There are different exhibits with actual artifacts from historical ballooning and world record achievements and attempts. There are hands on science demonstration stations for children. There is a balloon simulator with a wide panoramic screen, learn about knots, weather, and more. The weather exhibit was especially interesting discussing clouds and storms.
We will definitely visit again in the future.
Jason platt
Awesome staff, lots of history and even got to see balloons launching that morning.
Kris A
This museum was amazing! We had a wonderful time! We went to Albuquerque to celebrate my birthday and this was the only thing I wanted to do. I was not disappointed! I am looking forward to the balloon festival in October! Cannot wait to go back!

This was my first visit. Interesting, informative, and had some interesting artifacts from when ballooning began. The building itself is pretty cool. They have a fairly large area devoted to children's 8nteractive exhibits. Only cost $5 or $6 to enter. Lots of info on ballooning, the fiesta, and general activities in NM. Worth the visit.

If you LOVE hot air balloons... this is a must see for you. Lots of cool interaction for kids, which us adults loved playing too. Lots of history, right from the very beginning, through wars and up to today. Check out the observation deck on the second floor, beautiful scenery.
Algoma One
This is the world’s foremost museum of ballooning, situated at the site of the world’s largest Balloon festival, which happens each October. You will never see more hot air balloons in one place as you will in this festival!
Lew Meckley
If you have any interest in ballooning, you have to give yourself a few hours to check this museum out. Enjoy the history of this sport and check out all the displays of long distance flights and the actual equipment used. Also make sure to get to the back room, designed for kids of all ages, to try your hand at flying a hot air balloon over Fiesta Park. And if you've been before, as I had, stop in again to enjoy all the new displays!
S178 Travels
Too many signs, not enough "Displays", 3 interesting historical balloons, good Artic exploration display, small museum.
Audrey C
Just beautiful! Definitely coming back for the fest again!! Will be better prepared next time.
Bobby Stevens
Had a great time at the fiesta!!👍here are some photos of my crew!!!where's yours!!😀 …
Kerry Anderson
Great historical chronology of the history of ballooning. Never knew the early 1700' s is when ballooning started. Uses in weather, surveillance in war, and personal use are all brought to life here. Great place to visit- we were able to get in free on A Sunday from 9-1.
Omar Mohammed
An amazing experience travelling through time to find out about balloonist impact on war, weather, flight, and leisure. There are many types of memorabilia including jackets, pins, actual balloons which have taken flight. You will find interactive displays as well as well articulated history throughout the building.
Carissa B.
My young family visited while in ABQ for the Balloon Fiesta. We stayed for about an hour. Honestly, we did not give ourselves enough time and could have stayed much longer, but we had a Balloon Glow to get to! The staff was very sweet to us (especially with our two little ones!) and the children's exhibits were fantastic.
Corey Winegar
Extremely informative place about hot air balloons and gas balloons. Highly recommend visiting if you're in the area and expect at least an hour or more of knowledge dropped throughout the entire place.
Hop Pinther
Very interesting, thought they would have more video presentations.
Joshlyn Matthews
Alot of great information, It is more for older children and adults. My 6years was very board, not much hands things for younger kids! The interactive stuff they did have, some of it was not working ! Great gift shop if you need New Mexico souvenirs!

Karen Quinn
It was better than I expected! I learned a lot and enjoyed everything I saw!
Susanne Lindberg Mikkelsen
Story and music hour are both so enjoyable for my kids. The instructor is very sweet and talented, and very good at engaging the kids. Our favorite is music hour for my 3 and 1 year old, but it coincides with nap time, so we go to story hour instead. There's always a craft to make as well as toys to play with. Gets very busy during public holidays, but still great. And free!!
Ancient Tiger
Loved the museum, I never knew hot air balloons had so much history and competitions still happening now.
Russ Pike
Ticket prices are cheap and it's totally worth spending a morning checking out the history of balloon flight. I went on a Saturday morning and there was literally nobody else there. I can't wait until the interactive exhibits open back up.
Jiahe Lincoln Hui
Awesome place to visit along Route 66!
waterdog
Wow. I live here and had no idea how awesome this museum is. We were not expecting so much interesting history. Lots very interesting pieces on display with some good hands on exhibits for all ages. The balloon flight Sim is fun and neat to watch all ages explore. Sundays are free as well as every first Friday of the month.
Judy Ulloa
Loved it. Very interesting. Just need to read info. So much information. Amazing how much knowledge is involved. You can't go wrong.
James Haight II
Albuquerque Concert Band plays free concerts in the summer here at the Balloon Museum.
Lyesa Hamar
Doing my research before going up. I didn't realize how long ballooning has been in existence ... or how prominent ballooning was during war-time ... or how seriously competitive sport ballooning is. Lots of cool interactive attractions. Even got a gift shop bracelet to commemorate the experience.
Now I'm ready
Gwen Banks
Observation deck drone show.
Terri Sullivan
Excellent way to spend a rainy Sunday. Free admission from 9-1.
Jameila Beams
To understand the beginning of humanity's quest for flight this is a most enjoyable and educational experience with a special section for children.
4thStRv-Concierge Camp&Park NancyB. Mgr (ABQ RV Hideaway)
Loved the view. Great people. Balloons are loud..... But being in the gondola during flight feels like you're hanging still in the air. You don't feel the breeze you're riding.
P. Flyer
Small museum featuring the history of Hot Air Balloons. It can be done in an hour. There are fun interactive exhibits for kids.
Debbie Stubbs
This is a great museum that is truly unique to Albuquerque! Loved the displays and learned many new facts about balloons through the ages.
Zack Maldonado (Zappy)
I recommend the guide tour, the guide was very fun and engaging and gave a lot of interesting history about air ballons
David Snethen
This museum was great! We were able to make it on a free Friday. I am assuming it is more crowded in October. They had some amazing facts and displays that I had no idea, all about balloon flight, from its beginnings, in 18th-century France, to the present day. I hope I get to go back someday!
Henry Estrada
Nice museum that has the history about hot air balloons.
Bill Gates
Not a nice hot air balloon museum, is a bit small.
william head
Great museum to visit
Vanessa Ingle
Wonderful!!! Plan to spend like 3 hours or so. There's a lot to learn and a few interactive exhibits for kids, as well as fun photo opportunities.
Brandi S
I have a great time every time I go to the balloon Museum! They have flattened Penny machines, a souvenir store, and great activities such as the stories in the sky and music in the sky on Wednesdays and the Star Wars hot air balloon event they have once a year before the balloon Fiesta. There's so much to see and do. Their exhibits are fun and interactive. I would recommend this Museum to anyone! And entrance fees are sometimes free during certain events such as the Wednesday story times, so check them out!

We came here for the early morning Balloons & Breakfast event during the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Coming in the early morning was great because you get to see a combo glow and mass ascension. Not only is the view stunning with the balloons close enough you feel as if you could touch them you get to be in a cozy glass enclosed room with a wonderful buffet and warm drinks. We were originally suppose to be down on the field but went to purchase our tickets too late and decided to spend the extra money to go to the museum event. It was the best decision we made! I would highly recommend going to a museum event. Everything was wonderful - the food, atmosphere, balloon view, hospitality, parking and the museum exhibit!
Anita Eckard
We were first timers to balloon festival this year. Attended the evening glow in the park (a must) on Saturday night but watch the Sunday morning mass ascension from the lawn in front of the museum. Great spot. Awesome festival. A definite bucket list item.
Linda Braun
Clean, bright, with lots of informative and interesting exhibits. Enjoyed the 4D movie, the balloon piloting exhibit and the interactive exhibits. It was a little difficult to find a logical path to follow to see everything, but the museum was enjoyable nonetheless.
Carol Rael
Husband had he a first nite get together of 1972 manzano class reunion.
Francis Devore
Very interesting, you need to go to see what I'm talking about. Really loved it.
Brother Francis E. Revels-Bey
The balloon museum is always a great place to be, especially when we have our annual international hot air balloon fiesta (the First Saturday into the next 6 days and nights). If you ever come our way from out of state be sure to book your hotel room and rented vehicle about 8-10 weeks in advance. Dress appropriately as some seasons it’s cold and others warm like summer.
Evan Beavers
Great place to explore and learn about the history of aeronautics.
Nathan Miller
I honestly didn't have high hopes but this place definitely impressed. Spent about 4 hours here and if I hadn't been super hungry I would have stayed another 2. I'll definitely go back to spend some more time on the parts I had to rush through. The balloon stuff is the highlight, but they also have some other sections on weather and space that are only loosely balloon-related. Nice gift shop. Free on Sundays.
They also have big areas you can apparently rent out for parties and though they are way nice, I suspect it's probably pretty expensive cause of the views.
chris bonewitz
A place for Balloon lore, if you want to know about Balloon travel stop here during the Fiesta. Lots of fun, lots to do.
Lindsey M
Great value and I'd recommend for adults and school-aged children. My kids are pre-K and this did not hold their interest. It sounds like they have an awesome storytime if you're here during the week, though! I knocked off a star because there was poor signage directing the flow around exhibits under construction. We thought we had seen the whole museum, and then realized there was a big chunk behind a vacant exhibit area.
Robert F.
Great place to visit and take out of town visitors. Excellent displays and information on the history of ballooning
Inexpensive afternoon.
Ben Koonse
What a great place to learn the history of balloons. Good for children as well with an interactive section. $6 for adults. 65 and older $4.
Heather E
The place is absolutely amazing. I loved the history and the staff was Oh- just so helpful and pleasant- even when we arrived at 4am! The balloon festival itself was definitely worth the trip. The whole experience that is offerred should be enjoyed by everyone atleast once in their life. The magic that has been made is unable to be duplicated.
May I add some small details that made A HUGE DIFFERENCE- there are a ton of restroom facilites that are kept clean and the garbage is picked up. Also, there were hand sanitizing stations set up.
Great. Such a great experience!
E M
We had a lot of fun with our kids seeing all the hot air balloons and taking pictures with the props, they have a video playing at every display and they sell frozen yogurt in the gift shop. Its a pretty big museum with 2 floors and bathrooms located on each as well as an elevator to the 2nd floor. Highly recommend it if you're in the area.
Lisa Sievers
Very cool! Had so much fun at the Balloon Festival! Was a friends bucket list item and we, group of 7 RV's are so glad she let us join in ;) The Museum is incredible the history of hot air balloons...who knew? Going back for the 50th next year, 2021!
Scott Stanton
Great museum presenting history of ballooning with great sections on high altitude experiments that preceded space program in ‘50s and’60s and the various modern attempts to cross Atlantic and Pacific and circle the globe. Remarkable collection of actual passenger capsules and gondolas ,and models or replicas of the capsules they don’t actually have. Fitting tribute to heroic exploration!
J Hunter
Very nice place with very interesting exhibits
Devin Acosta
My family really enjoyed this museum. The scavenger hunt was fun for all of us and the 4D movie was good to watch before we headed out on our own hot air balloon ride. Lots of displays and information about hot air balloons.

If you are interested in ballooning, then take some time and go. A wonderful presentation and lots of information. The staff is charming and enthusiastic. The gift shop has everything a balloon loving person could want. A great time.

Great place to spend a few hours with a lot of balloon history to learn about. Gift shop is a must with many unique items to get. Every one of the staff I have met was super friendly with much information to share. Met Jill in the gift shop and learned so much. To bad Jack (dog) wasn't there (:. Atmosphere is one of the best I've experienced.

Colorful, engaging and informative. A great precursor to our own balloon flight.
Hats off to the designers! Thoughtfully designed and with sections covering a wide variety of topics.
Adventures with Naz
A very interesting museum with displays of hot air balloons, describing the history of ballooning and exploration. There are plenty of interactive exhibits and activities as well as vueeings at the theater. The children's story time on Wednesdays is top class and very engaging and fun, it is also free for families to attend and you can explore the museum afterwards! I join in the regular activities open to the public, sometimes there is an admission fee. The entrance fee is very reasonable, I believe it is $4 for New Mexico residents. This is also a very good place to view the balloon fiesta.
Rusty Kelly
Really nice Museum. Very good displays and a lot of information on Ballon history and travel. Glad i had the opportunity to stop and visit.
LA B
Beautiful huge museum with lots to see, so give yourself plenty of time. If you want to stop at each exhibit and take it all in you'll need a couple of hours at least. Some of the exhibits are interactive and there's a short movie in 3D.
Bryce Caster
Wow this museum was fantastic and very reasonably priced! The exhibits are beautiful and at the end, I felt I had a great understanding about the history of ballooning, its relation to Albuquerque and an appreciation for the sport. I would highly recommend a visit by anyone in the Albuquerque region.
Justine Gutierrez
Got married here. It was a wonderful, beautiful experience. Love the museum also. Now I take my daughter to storytime. It's free and fun!
K Koman
Some very interesting history of ballooning. But, I was hoping for more details about the actual workings if a hot air balloon ride - such as inflation, the chase crew, landing, deflation, etc.
Richard Krukar
This is an interesting building. Cool architecture from the outside and it gets more interesting on the inside. If you're really lucky, the quadcopter racers will be practicing out back. They're a great bunch and you won't believe how fast and manueverable those things are.
Mark Schonwetter
Bob was a great tour guide he covered everything and catered to old and young tourists. The museum covers the history of ballooning, with displays from inception to current history. Nice gift shop. All staff were eager to assist.
John Hames
Impressive I really enjoyed learning about how women have been involved in ballooning I flew in 79 and 80 with Ben Abruzzo at the festival also wanted to mention I had never seen one of the Japanese balloon bombs very amazing
Naomi Pino
I liked the see the pins and badges from some of the ballonists. I went the the peace monument to hang up part cranes with my class. I found it amazing that museum has different sections to visit.. ex: balloons, weather, space.. etc .
Frances Abeyta
Cute. Downside is it’s kinda small. Children do love it though so it’s fun if you have kids or are babysitting and need an adventure.
Brian Yapko
Well-designed museum combining the hard science behind ballooning, its 200+ year history, and the whimsical, giddy joy of the fiesta itself. Short and sweet. Low prices and well worth an hour of time.
Marilyn Kemper
Absolutely loved it, so much to see. Lots of information, very informative. We ran out of time after 2 1/2 hours, will definitely go back if we get to Albuquerque again. This should be #1 of things to see
Steve Lovaski

Stephanie Piano4Me
Tickets were very reasonable and our expectations were not high but we came out with new knowledge. Thoroughly enjoyed the museum.

A giant bag of hot air doesn't seem fun however it really is. You don't have to fill the bag with hot air though. Just don't use hydrogen...
John Sturgis
A great place to take visiting friends and family. There’s a lot to see and do for kids of all ages. We enjoyed our time in the 3D theatre. Reasonably-priced, it’ free on Sundays before 1 pm.
Sue H

This place was so interesting and perfect for kids of any age. My 9 year old loved being able to touch everything and my 13 year old also seemed to enjoy herself. The history was laid out in a really fun and interesting way too. A must see of you are in Albuquerque.

One of a kind museum! Anything and everything you want to know about the history of Hot Air Balloons and ballooning, you'll find here.
Not really for small children.
The grounds around the museum are used throughout the year for various festivals, etc.
And don't forget the biggest in the world - the Hot Air Balloon Festival - in early October. It's an experience youll never forget!
Erik Likness
The three main exhibits are impressive. The price is right - donation based. Give it 30-60 minutes with a kid under 12 and its a good time. Pair with visit to the Ballon Festival for a good day out.
Reg Roark

Or host your next event here, their event spaces are amazing! What a great place for a wedding!

From doomed adventures to the north pole to round the world flights and the science of ballooning. Behind the building is the 80 acre field where balloons are launched. Worth the visit.

A must see place to visit in Albuquerque, for residents and visitors alike. Much of the balloon history in the world is housed here, within some excellent and extreme displays.
So much parking that you will always have a spot unless it during the Fiesta.
Superb staff and volunteers. Neat gift shop.
Anita Harper
One of the World's Most Comprehensive Ballooning Museums
This museum includes many gondolas that have actually travelled and competed in Ballooning Events & Explorations. New exhibits are a weather station, 4D film experience and an early Swedish exploration exhibit. Docents are friendly and well informed.

Is this the best hot air balloon museum in the world? I've never seen or heard of another, so it might technically be the best.
Has quite a few true artifacts, and reproductions of a bunch more. You can learn the science, engineering and history of ballooning here. Since weather is so important to navigation of ballooning they have a good exhibit here on how weather works. History is what I learned the most from.
More modern, they also are adding drone racing as an interest supported by the museum. That was a surprise bonus.
