Have you ever been scammed by a moving company? I have. I did all the work possible I thought to find a good moving company online. They kept my deposit of over $1500 and never showed up. I consider myself lucky because this company also was know to partner with other movers and would just straight not deliver the belongings and put them in a storage unit… somewhere in the US. People who were lucky enough to have found their things may be in storage, were told to fly there and bid on their belongings before someone else did. Yes, the cops were called and all the complaints get completed. No one got their deposits back. Some didn’t find their things. Imagine, your whole house packed up - never to be seen again. After I was scammed, I needed a moving company quick. I spoke with Andy at Gentle John’s and he was able to quickly put together a move for my 5 bedroom house. The guys who arrived were incredibly smart, fast, mythological and very kind. They get more done in one day than I can physically in a few months? I can’t say how much I appreciate this company. They are a solid reputable company and I would use them every time. The bad movers change their names online, they are able to produce business ID numbers and everything you would think to ask for. I was calling a specific company and I heard a series of clicking sounds, as if I was being transferred. Others have said the same thing. I would advise anyone to use local movers who have been around for a few years. Gentle John’s Moving is able to help with out of state moves and of course anywhere in Oregon. Their service and professionalism is worth every penny. They were very careful and really can pack a truck tight!

What a great experience! Just completed a move from my Dads home of 30 years, and boy did we have A LOT of stuff! The movers were patient, efficient and got to work hauling very heavy boxes down the stairs of his split level home. They were experts at loading the truck to make the most use of the space, and stopped only to ask important questions. Also they wrapped, taped, and cared for all furniture as if it was their own. Then.....they met us 86 miles north at his new home, AND EXPERTLY unloaded everything carefully and placed furniture where it went! Bed setup, all wrapping disposed of! What a blessing to have chosen Gentle John's to help us make this milestone downsize move for my Dad and his wife who is battling cancer and wasn't able to prepare for the move as much as she wanted. We highly recommend this company to ANYONE who is going through a move, it was an awesome experience!

WOWZA. MOVE IN-credible movers. With just two guys, they expertly maneuvered my wife's upright grand piano. Mind you, it took 5 guy friends to get it into the truck, but Gentle John's had ALL the right stuff for it. Very reasonably priced.

The team at gentle John’s were super responsive and quick to help us when we were in a pinch. Our moving company canceled on us 3 days before our move in date due to lake of staffing. We called around numerous places and everyone was booked. My wife reached them and they did an amazing job finding a way to fit us in. They put at ease in a difficult time. The crew was great and worked hard to complete as efficiently and quick as possible. Definitely recommend them for anyone in need of a great team.

I used gentle John's for out last move. It was last minute and we had a decent amount of big furniture. Gentle John's kept us notified of when they were coming out, how much it would cost and about how much time it would take to move our stuff to the new place. They took good care of most of our furniture and moved quickly. They were friendly and made sure our which items we wanted moved since we used to live in a shared space and our roommates decided to move out at the same time. I would recommend gentle johns!!!

They responded right away to any communication after I booked my move with them. Day of move they arrived on time, were professional, and the whole move was seamless. Great experience - highly recommend! Everything was easy, smooth, and they delivered what they promised. They communicated from the beginning on what to expect and called to confirm moving window. They also brought all the necessary equipment which made things so much quicker. They really knew what they were doing and you could tell they had expertise on how to move correctly and quickly. The movers were very kind and all had a good attitudes - they were a pleasure to work with. No problems, no snags. Last time I moved it was a nightmare and the last thing you want on your moving day is a bait and switch, unreliable movers, etc. I would recommend GJ to any of my friends.

FANTASTIC!! Super flexible. Had to change my date 3 times with no issues. Movers were professional, listened very well to my needs, did not waste any time. Took great care protecting all of my belongings and my home. Not one single scratch or ding on any of my walls even with narrow staircases and big furniture. Super responsive and were able to squeeze in my move with only a two day lead time. The crew arrived on time and immediately got to work. They were fast, but careful with my belongings. The crew were easy-going and outgoing. The whole move, including trip time, was done within their estimate and all my stuff arrived in the same condition it was when it was picked up. I would refer any friend or family member to use Gentle John’s. We had an excellent experience! They arrived within their arrival window, and took care to wrap, pad, and pack all of our belongings that couldn’t fit in the boxes we had already packed. Gentle John’s is an experienced moving company that has versatile trucks with a back door, and a door on either side of the trailer to allow for easy driveway unloading at the new home. Juan, George and Dillan were the crew that helped us move. They were professional and efficient and dealt with 2 flights of stairs and large furniture with Grace. It was obvious this crew cared about making our moving experience a positive one. Upon arrival at the new home, the crew unraveled floor coverings to protect the floor and carpet, then proceeded to hand lift individually the boxes to the next floor. We felt like Gentle John’s really took the time and care to deliver our items and provided us with a great service. They brought all the extra packing wrap, shipping blankets and tape with them. Dillan made a great custom box for our large TV to protect it on its journey to the new home. George was very personable. Juan was a clear leader and very organized. The crew took the time to pack that truck in a way our boxes wouldn’t fall over in transport. Gentle John’s was worth the price. We were quoted $203/hr for a 3-man crew with a minimum of 5 hours on a Saturday. Being new to the world of moving homes, I underestimated completely just how long it actually takes to move a 3 bedroom home (with two flights of stairs). The crew spent 8 hours between arriving at my home, and finishing the unloading process. Gentle John’s management, if you’re reading this, please give praise to the crew who helped us move. They worked hard, that truck was fairly full! Thanks!

Gentle John's handled our August 2022 relocation from Portland to Ashland, OR. The crew was prompt, efficient, careful and pleasant. They did most of the packing, including a delicate heirloom china set. All of our furnishings were delivered undamaged, including a cherished grandfather clock and a large antique framed mirror. We had only one kitchen item casualty: an ugly holiday mug (not sad). We were extremely satisfied with everything about the service we received from Gentle John's.

Great company. I was supposed to move into a new home on 10/17/22, unfortunately, there was a hold up with the builder so I had to move to a "temporary home" until further notice. The guys were wonderful, fast and asked questions if I wasn't clear about what was going with me and what was going to storage. The whole experience was great! The guys in the office were very on top of it, super professional and kind, and followed up exactly when they said they would ahead of our moving date. The moving crew day-of was excellent! They showed up right on time, were very careful and efficient, wrapped furniture with care, and were in tune with each other for moving the big stuff, which helped avoid damaged down stairs. They didn't waste time on the drive and got to the second destination shortly after us. This is my first time using a moving company and I'm so glad that I went with Gentle John's. Couldn’t be more thankful and pleased. I got a call from another moving company less than 10 minutes before they were supposed to be at my house telling me they wouldn’t make it there - I had scheduled my move at least 4 weeks prior. I called Gentle John’s that same morning (Saturday) and asked if there was ANY chance they could move me before the following Tuesday. They got me in the same day. Wow. I was told the crew would be at my house between 1:30-2PM and they drove up at 1:30 on the dot. Their service and crew were amazing, friendly, and careful with my items. Would highly recommend.

The owner John answered my call and set up movers and day of move. He was very nice and informative. Answered every question and said they would get us moved and finish the job no matter what it took. Last minute for us and not prepared on our part. Great customer service!!! The only reason I didn’t mark responsive is bc I left a voicemail to delay time one hour, for us to prepare. Driver Leone (not sure I got right) and his helper were fantastic! Definitely would recommend Gentle Johns!

Gentle John’s is very professional and they know what they are doing. They took great care packing my whole house, including my plants. When it came time to unpack they were quick and respectful about where I wanted things to go. Moving is stressful and Elmer, the team leader kindly reassured me several times, and all did turn out fine. Byron was fast and kept the pace going for 6 hours. I called Gentle John's to see if they could help me out next day and they could. I hired a four person team and I could not be happier with my service. After a cross country move the last thing I wanted to do was move all my stuff up three flights of stairs. The person I booked with joked with me, "We call stairs job security!" and I knew I had the right team. They met us at our pods and unloaded everything. They packed the truck and met us at the apartment AND unloaded everything in 2 hours. The best money I spent on my move. They got everything upstairs without damage including a queen sized bed and frame, a large dresser, and dozens of boxes. They helped assemble the dresser, too. The team was communicative and courteous throughout. If I ever move in Portland again, I will 10,000% be calling Gentle John's. And their bill boards are beautiful, too!

Shout out to Miguel and Chris for moving me into my new home! They were professional, kind, gentle with my things and so fast! Nothing was broken, they didn't dilly dally or take ANY breaks, and they worked VERY efficiently. My move took 6.5 hours from start to finish and everything was put exactly where I asked. This made unpacking so much easier for me. I appreciate these guys. 10/10 recommend. Pro tip: If you hire movers, just go to 7-11 and give them drinks and snacks. Don't let them tell you no. Just do it. They work hard!

We just moved from Oregon to Northern California. Our movers Andreas and Carlos were magnificent! At our destination they had to manually move everything up a 200ft long driveway plus two narrow flights of stairs. They didn't complain once and were professional and cordial throughout. They packed and unpacked the moving truck with great care, and I couldn't believe how much attention they paid to the instructions we wrote on individual boxes. They were also fantastic about disassembling and reassembling a bed frame, TV stand, and assorted other things. We are extremely grateful to them for their diligence, calm, and helpfulness. We had a complicated in-city move and Gentle John’s was my first and only call. They were on time, took very good care of *everything* (from the rattiest shoe rack to antiques), continuously asked questions during the move to make sure everyone was on the same page, were courteous, and most of all were clear about their price structure. Office guys Andy and Kirby were great to deal with in booking and confirming the move. On the day of, Andreas and Dustin (unfortunately I didn’t catch the name of the third person) were top notch. I can't say enough good things about my experience with this company. I asked for 3 guys, but 2 showed up. I needed specific things brought to my new place from 2 seperate places and my movers went above and beyond my expectations. Especially unmounting and packing up my huge flat screen tv. They mcgyvered 2 boxes together to transport it safely and taped it together expertly. They packed up my room, organized, rearranged my storage unit and treated my things with care, like their own. They were very patient with me as I went through my things I hadn't seen In 2 years making decisions about what I wanted to bring and what I wanted to stay, then they packed up unpacked stuff with a spring in their step. Gentle John's Moving & Storage was the best when I used them for a residential move recently. I had contracted COVID, was very sick on the scheduled day. I was still willing to move, but they kindly rescheduled for the next business day so I could be better recovered, and to keep their staff safer. Also, what packing I had not yet done, they did, with no complaint, about 10% of items. Three movers showed, I'd asked for two, and the moving truck was big enough to handle all moved items in one trip. They handled stairs and multiple elevator load and unloads with equal ease, boxes, furtinure, bicycle, etc. Kyle and Cody were exceptional in the main office, and always available by phone before, during and after the move. My first call next time I needoving help.

The move team was on time and professional. We would say that the crew was not as organized as our first (2021) team. While hard working and careful, they didn't function as a team and one guy was obviously new to the job. Still, we had a great experience and will contact Gentle John's again should the need arise. 2021: Gentle John's moving team and scheduling manager are incredible, caring professionals. Best movers ever! I got a call back from Andy less than 15 minutes after requesting a quote. He was honest, helpful, and a great communicator from start to finish. Even though the move was from Portland to Salem, it was still considered 'local' because it was under 50 miles (just barely). Three movers showed up on time & had my entire 2nd floor apartment carefully packed in their truck in around 30 minutes. They arrived at my storage unit in Salem moments after I did, and the whole job was completed in less than 3 hours. Considering they were being paid by the hour, I was VERY impressed with their speed, but also their positive attitudes and attention to detail. They worked non stop all morning and moved everything very carefully and loaded the truck, strapped it down and ensured everything reached the new house in the exact same condition as it was when they loaded it. Rave review! From start to finish this company was so professional and experienced. I got a call from them off HomeAdvisor right away and I hit the jackpot! On the first contact, I was guided and informed about the services I would receive and was quoted a price that was very reasonable. They were to move all my belongings from a large storage unit to our new home. I was contacted the day before the service and explained to what to expect and what I needed to do, which was so helpful. On the day of service, I was met at my storage unit by Esteban, Reynaldo and Francisco. They were very pleasant and explained the paperwork and gave me a time frame of when they would arrive at the new house. When they arrived at the home with my belongings, I gave them a tour of where I wanted things to go and they got to work. They laid out mats to cover my floors and wrapped the balusters on my staircase to protect them. They had carefully wrapped some of my furniture for transport and had re-boxed some items that needed it. They even moved some heavy furniture out of the garage and upstairs on top of what they transported. They unwrapped everything that they had wrapped and removed all the trash. This team was so professional, so careful with my belongings, and very efficient. On top of that, they were kind and very nice. I am so grateful for them and their service for us! The 2 gentleman that helped my husband and I were very speedy and efficient. I explained to them that I had a medical problem with my lungs and that keeping dust down was very important and they did a fantastic job, even checking on how I felt a couple of times. Nothing was broken, and everything was handled with care. I guess the only thing that needed to be addressed was how much extra things cost. Like tape if they used their own, and cellophane wrap. We would have insisted that they use our supplies we already had purchased if we knew that these 2 items alone were almost $100. Also a military discount would have been nice too, just a thought. We did have a hiccup at the beginning, though. We were called and told that there we're no crews to shownup and they we're short handed.. we had to put everything on hold for almost 2 1/2 hrs till they could arrive. We we're not given any kind of discount for the time inconvenience, they did say how much they appreciated how understanding we we're. Other then that we will definitely be moving with them next time.

The Good: Quality of movers (efficient, no items damaged, good communication, friendly) The Bad: Management practice, scummy treatment of employees, inability to take responsibility for half-assed communication / extreme delay of service (frustrations exacerbated by John) Wanted to support local business and booked a move with Gentle John's about a month in advance of my scheduled move date for a 1-bedroom apartment; was slotted in for an 8AM move and received a call to confirm / answer any questions I had the day before. Come move day, I receive a call very early in the morning from the dispatcher I was working with letting me know that there had been a delay and I could expect my movers to arrive at ~11AM and that he would call be back with an update (he never called back, I found out much later that he ended up having to hit the line and conduct a move himself) Multiple hours passed and I received no call nor word from Gentle John's on the status of my move. After calling back and going back-and-forth with multiple different agents, I was begrudgingly told that I could expect my movers by 2pm. 2pm rolls by and there is still no sign of the movers nor any update from management. After talking to John and expressing my frustrations (I had to move out that day and was the only party making any attempt at contact - was seriously questioning if I would have to rent a U-Haul), he presented me with a sad "woe is me" attitude and attempted to off-load all the issues onto delivery drivers for calling out sick, rather than taking ownership for the poor communication and inconsistent guidance on when to expect the moving team to arrive. It makes sense that no negative feedback on Google/Yelp is addressed directly, as John is a master deflector and will go as far as offering to cancel the scheduled move rather than making a commitment to providing an update or alleviating a 6+ hour and running delay, giving me the advice to just "go about my day" despite having an apartment with all my possessions in boxes and a clock ticking on my lease. Movers finally arrived at 4:30pm after (you guessed it) no update from management (I had to call their customer service line for the 10th+ time that day, not kidding) and everything went smooth from there. As much as I appreciated the movers themselves and was happy with their work, you should probably take your money else-where. If everything goes right, I'm sure Gentle John's great movers will leave you with a good impression. But if anything goes wrong, you will 100% be on your own and tasked with following up on commitments made by the company's own employees, and a large % of what you pay for your move will go to those same clowns (instead of the movers doing all the actual work). Overall, management is clearly disorderly and has poor leadership skills, especially John, whose name is hopefully just a coincidence.

The booking went fine and they were on time. However, they put a small chip in my new bed frame drawer, they scratched the top of my dining room table and they broke off a piece of my handmade dresser. They also had one staff person who would grab your items from the truck and then run down the ramp with them in his arms. Not exactly safe or 'gentle'. They also took exceedingly long to move me. The last time I moved I had two guys I got through U-haul's site and they moved me in 2 hours. This time I had 3 guys and it took them 2 hours and 45 minutes to move me. Not sure what took so long other than they didn't seem very organized. Overall, I would not book this company again. I would have given them 2.5 stars if Google allowed that choice.

Needless to say, these are very sensitive moves involving older adults and many fragile items. I scheduled Gentle Johns for about 15 moves and never once did I receive a complaint or negative feedback from a resident or any of their family members. This fact itself is amazing. I personally was able to hire Gentle Johns for my own move, and Leo and Anthony were so great!! They were both very polite and they were very careful with our boxes and furniture. They were perfectly professional and very quick. They were happy to help with disassembling and reassembling larger items of furniture. Helped my daughter move on super short notice (30 minutes). They were the one company where an actual person answered the phone instead of having to go through the computer voice options encountered calling other companies. She was undecided about renting a uhaul or hiring a moving company to move her bedroom belongings into a studio across town. Still those 4 guys were totally cool, even in the cold and the rain, they were even joking and talking with my caregiver about it all. First time ever using movers. We were wary about it because of the price, unsure if it would be cost effective since we're pretty broke. But it totally was worth it!! They got out double the amount we assumed they'd be able to get in the min 2 hour option they offer. We lived in a 2nd floor apt, and they were way fast in getting things moved down. The chance of things getting broken was never our concern, but they were very gentle with things. They checked the top of each box to see what the label said. And once we got there they even asked which rooms we wanted things to be dropped off in. In the long run it was cheaper and wayyyy less stressful to use them then to rent a uhaul and individuals to help bring things out. I'd totally use their services again!

Just F.Y.I., please be there and eye-hawk the movers, because like people, the workers touch our things and like what we have, and and take. After a year of hiring Gentle John's and opening all of the moving boxes, I am not able to find my cute camera. I called Gentle John's spoke to the owner and he said he'll call me back; he has not returned my call. Just please be there with the movers like a hawk, and call the Gentle John's immediate, should some of your small items are missing. I treated the workers well, fed them and gave each a generous tip. Just a little disappointed.

I was having new carpet installed in my whole house. I have to do it in 2 phases. Only have done phase one, two rooms. GJ' had 3 men come to my house, they were just moving furniture from 2 rooms out to a POD in my driveway. They wrapped everything, and packed the POD well. It only took 1 1/4 hours. There is a two hour minimum for hiring GJ's and along with an hour's travel time added to the minimum 2 hours, the cost was hefty. I knew the different charges ahead of time, I just didn't know they would be as fast as they were so the cost was high. (Great that they were efficient, not so good that it was expensive per minute of labor!) While I will continue to have them for round 2 as there is far more furniture to move out, for these smaller moves there are other places for me to seek out labor. As an aside, I asked if all 3 men were vaccinated and only 2 were.

I love Gentle John's! When deciding how to go about my moving experience, I knew I couldn't handle many items myself, or even with a friend. After a very frustrating day of calling nearly a dozen moving companies, listening to spiels and extra costs tacked onto an hourly rate, minimums and some seriously unprofessional people over the phone, I called a small business in Mission Viejo; the aforementioned Gentle John's. My call was received by Chris, who asked a few questions about the move, the time frame and how I'd like my items to be protected. Once I was off the phone, Chris sent me over a very comprehensive pdf detailing the prices, rates and it gave me a good idea of what to expect price-wise. The following day, I gave them a call back and decided to plan the move for the day after. Day of the move was such a breeze, I wish everyone could experience how easy they make it. My two helpers were Frank and Leandro. They brought the Gentle John's truck to my apartment complex and in rapid (but careful) succession, wrapped my bed, couch, dressers, artwork and emptied my apartment lickety split! Before unloading my items into my storage locker, they took all my boxes and furtinure out and reorganized it; it was real-life Tetris!! Each box, my bed, my furniture, everything, was brought inside and before I knew it, the truck was nearly empty. I had a few things to bring into my new home, so Frank and Leandro were kind enough to bring the remainder up the stairs for me!! What an incredible effort and brilliant result: I could not be happier! The price is MORE than fair for what they provide. I am so glad I used their services, I'm over the moon. I recommend them to absolutely ANYONE looking for a moving company to get the job done. Also, I should mention that my move took place during an intense time, and I will be forever grateful that this company is staying open to help the public, despite the possible risk to themselves. These guys are one of the many resources that are ESSENTIAL to our economy and well being. Too often small businesses are overlooked and undervalued, but I believe it is the small businesses that make the most impact and have the most heart.
