Reviews of Wyoming State Capitol
Rolf Shmidt
The inside is beautiful, this state Capitol is much nicer than most others I have visited. Both the Senate and the Chamber of Representatives were open to the public. The sculptures of the Four Sisters were a very nice fit to the building.
Ernesto Casas
Fantastic architecture and design make this building an adventure worth exploring! I was met with hospitable employees and representatives on my self guided tour. I’ve never visited a state capitol before this and after this experience I am looking forward to seeing all the state capitols!
Theresa Hoban
Such a lovely state capitol. Just recently totally renovated. Thanks to a wonderful guide who told us which parts of building were best. The stairs where the statues of the 4 sisters were placed in niches were excellent. Take time to watch the orientation movie. Tiffany style stain glass in three locations is superb. The cherry wood balustrades beautiful. Gold leaf dome - Wow. We loved the entire building.
T Fitz
Amazing visit here! The gentleman that was greeting visitors and giving brief tours is amazing! He really made us feel welcome and answered all of our questions. So friendly and knowledgeable.
This Capitol structure is incredible. A true gem!
Casey Scalf
Absolutely gorgeous architecture it was so cool to see the new renovations lit up at night.
Aaron Shelby
My parents and I stopped in to check off another state capitol visited. We found a well maintained state building welcoming to visitors from across the US. We appreciated the emphasis on the native and indigenous people of Wyoming through displays and artwork to tell the often overlooked and untold histories of America. If you are passing through Cheyenne, I definitely recommend stopping in just for a taste of Wyoming history and hospitality!
Scot Egg
Beautiful cherry wood, marble tile and stained glass skylights. Wonderful restoration work. Free self-guided and cell phone video tours
Michelle Carney
Big state capitol! It was all nicely decorated for the holidays. We got to meet the nicest docent, she used to be one of the secretaries for the committee who reintroduced wolves to Yellowstone! It's great that it is still actively in use too!!
Felicia Millen
Beautifully renovated! A self guided tour, noticed the attention to detail throughout... Impressive. Handicap accessible entrence, and elevators to get you to each floor however not all areas would not be wheelchair friendly.

When we visited here this Spring there was some construction work going on there. But we could take some pictures and drive around the Capitol building. We also spent sometime in the nearby areas. A great location with so much of historical importance. This is the capitol Building of the equality state Wyoming. It was a good experience !
Ashley Vaughan
1888 renovation recently completed and what a beautiful historical building to visit. Home to the first place in the world to vote in women’s rights, incredible architecture and many other things. A must visit in Cheyenne!
Lionel GIES
Most beautiful historic building in the city! Fully renovated, it found back its old time splendor. It's a must-do when visiting Cheyenne! Welcome staff was super friendly.
Nathan Stein
Beautiful state capitol! As someone who has been to many state capitols, this is one of the best.
George Dawson
really pretty building now that the renovation is complete
Flyak Adventures
Typical dome style architecture for a state capitol building. At the time of my visit, looked like a restoration project was underway. I was a tourist as I was passing through to Casper to see the solar eclipse. I am visiting every state capitol. As you can see from the pictures, it's a beautiful capitol building. Well worth the visit!
SENG CHUIN LU
One of the most stunning/beautiful state capitol i ever been to ( so far been to 34 state capitols). Make sure you do the tour! It is very informative (help you to understand a bit history of earlier mormon and salt lake city)! Mr. Richard (our tour guide) is just an awesome person!
Matty B
Beautiful gold rotunda. There are two statues on either side of the building: a bison, and a bull rider.
Susan Schuh
Easy access to the main building, able to take a self-guided tour free of charge; Gorgeous architecture and full of history
Joelyn Durgin
Beautifully renovated, was able to freely walk through the building, absolutely stunning restoration.
Steve Brand
The new renovations are complete! It opens the Capitol up more to the public and restored the old paint and other artifacts
Carole Boughton
An absolutely amazing piece of Wyoming history which has been renovated. It is absolutely breathtaking and worth the time to take a tour!
Khanhlinh Le Begin
You can visit inside the capital 😍 …
Sarah Trader
Nice building with some great art in the basement as well as a lot of interesting things to see (such as the cavern of old safes). Kids enjoyed it too. Some cool updates to the campus too.
Kelley Kuhlman
lovely renovation, nice celebration, only one complaint and that is that not all the governor portraits had names.
Katarzyna Pobłocka
Beautiful building and the surrounding, I wish we could go inside. Maybe next time
Andrew Minster
Beautiful grounds surrounding the State Capitol.
Vincent Gonzales
They just finished a $300+ million dollar remodel and restoration. Beautiful!
Sukanto Mondal
The capitol building is beautiful. It has nice and big lawn, some sculptures in the lawn. Overall its look arcitecctyally beautiful.
Heather Elaine Is ME
Beautiful grounds and interior!
Efren Mancilla
excellent place with a lot of history, beautiful decoration on fair days we visited the place at the end of July and they do events in the square .. to revisit the place
Jim Smith (Heritage Carving)
The grounds are like a park. We were there on a sunday so the buildings were closed but was worth driving by and seeing the statues.
Thomas Finley
I really wish I were better with names and paying attention... Regardless. There was a delightful lady when I entered the Statehouse on 10/20/2021 right at midday. Her enthusiasm and knowledge including the general history and the materials used for the floor and stairwells was top notch. We had a good chat in general about state capitals including my own state of Illinois. In any case, if you could get this review back to her, she has really stood out as a top highlight of any of the 18 capitals I have had the chance to visit thus far.
April Strong (Serenityslr)
The Capitol Renovations look wonderful. Happy Holidays.
Juan Cerda
She's pretty. Landscaped grounds. Not too many people (it's Wyoming, anyway). Nice place to walk around.
John Fwu
Magnificent and beautiful building!!’
Sunilkumar Ravindran
Good structure to represent the state. The Architecture is really wonderful.
Dane Rodgers
Very nice historical building and meeting spaces.
David A
Very welcoming environment. Renovations are nicely done.
Nicholas G.
My son and I visited the Wyoming State Capitol during a recent road trip and were very impressed with how lovely and well-maintained the building is. The people of Wyoming can be justifiably proud of this magnificent public building. As far as the statuary is concerned, I was most impressed with the buffalo (aka bison) statue on the capitol grounds. It gives the pair of buffalo statues in the Manitoba Provincial Capitol building a run for their money. Which is better? You decide!
Terri June Schwartz Allee Blake
Absolutely Beautiful! Loved the hugh public turnout!
JB
Cool experience, great history
cody Stewart
Wonder what its like Yellow Stone Civilized me and you love lucifer
virginia tharrington
Beautiful building and being able to go into the office that women's rights were first signed into law.
Dorothea Casey
Beautiful building. We were able to take all the time we wanted on the self guided tour. One of the Supreme Court staffers went above and beyond to be helpful....even gave us a great recommendation for a restaurant for dinner, the Cattleman's Club.
jana h. ginter
The new renovation has been so helpful. It much easier to get around with a wheelchair. The new blends seamlessly with all the elements of the old that Iloved. LOVE that the view from the back of the Herschler Building has been restored. Worth every penny.
Da- Digger
This is an absolutely a beautiful building. Proportions to perfection. And then you enter to a most welcoming Staff that are some of the friendliest I've encountered. No security hurdles to endure at this capitol. I particularly like the grand staircase a woodworkers dream job. picture
Nathan Wadman
I love the capitol building. Such a beautiful, impressive building in a quaint, quiet part of town. The setting is wonderful. Quite accessible by car and foot. Since it is downtown by the state museum and county library, we often drive by.
Natasha Nicholes
Closed on Sunday, but the outdoor tour that we took around the grounds was pretty cool. We appreciate historical architecture, and it was a great space to get out of our car on a long road trip to stretch our legs.
Christa L (American Girl Doll)
Absolutely gorgeous completely restored.
Ken and Alicia Lund
Really attractive capitol building complex.
Phil Leichtweis
This could quite possibly be the grandest structure in the State of Wyoming. Rich in history with its architecture as well as its political history. At the time these photos were taken the structure was being rehabilitated. These photos show the nearly completed scaffolding as they prepare to repair and replace badly damaged areas in and on the dome.
Michael Gerhold
Wyoming State Capitol building is truly magnificent it is undergoing a multi-year renovation and it's absolutely beautiful it is free and open to the public and well worth seeing the architecture has been brought back to the original state when the capital was built every detail seems to be very accurate
Stephen J. Lautenschlager
The Wyoming State Capitol Building is a beautiful architectural site to see and tour anytime of the year. The rich history of the state is showcased very well throughout the grounds and building as well as the museum.
Zacho Gilman
The state capitol is a great representation of Cheyenne and Wyoming's awesomeness. Designed in the late 1890's, it was built to resemble the D.C capitol building. (À It is the tallest habitable building in my hometown at 146ft tall. When I went inside to take a tour, it was nice. The walls were golden brown and the dome was colorful with vivid paintings. You could also see the court room on the second floor and the congressmen in the front working their job. Plus it was in a convenient position for me. ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺😊😊😊😊😊😀😀😀😀😀😁😁😁😁😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😜😜😜😜😜😋😋😋😋👍👍👍👍👍👍
Jon Ferguson
Unfortunately for us it’s undergoing renovations so it kinda looks like a giant silo with the top covered up — we will be back again I’m sure to check it out when it’s all completed
Chris Dall
Loved looking at the photos and the size of the safes. The stain glass was beautiful. The inside is very plain but it gives it a soft look and that peace feeling.
Ryan Slack
I worked at for the General Contractor hired to renovate the Capitol building. I saw the building top to bottom and am so very impressed with it's rustic nature and charm.
E J
A beautiful piece of architechture and history! I was hoping to find information as to the source of the materials used for architecture and decorating/trim. More information on the history of the state in general would be fun!
Billy Conley
Definitely worth a visit. A restored classic built in an age when this was the richest region in the country. You are free to walk around,, and explore all the nooks and crannies.
J Folk
Very few other visitors while we were there we almost had the place to ourselves free to roam around and take pictures it was a very nice building the legislature was not in session.
Joe Smith
Could not get in -- renovation started in 2015. HUGE expansion underway. Could still see the dome. Some of the interesting features around the Capitol, like the Liberty Bell replica, are in disrepair.
Sylvia Parker
The restoration is simply wonderful. Tell your friends, go see it - you will be surprised and pleased especially if you spent any time there 4+ years ago.
CovinaCa

I have never had the pleasure of being anywhere near Cheyenne WY but my grandfather was commissioned to apply gold leaf to the dome around 1909 I believe. My grandfather was a Master Painter and Decorator and I guess was very well known for the work that he did. They ventured there for him to complete his work and while there, my uncle was born. They then returned to Ontario, Canada where the rest of their children were born. I would love any information regarding that work he did or pictures of him working on the dome at that time if any are available. It would mean so much to all of us cousins. If anyone reading this can help, it sure would be appreciated. His name was Joseph Augustin Gravelle.
Roy Swygert
Beautiful Capital Building. The workmankmanship, from the 1880s, preserved in this building is awesome! You must visit the Capital if you are in Cheyenne.

It stunk that the Capitol was under renovation and the dome was the only thing visible. It will be an excuse to come back when it's complted for more pictures.

Klein aber fein. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Bundesstaaten begnügt sich Wyoming mit einem kleineren, aber trotzdem sehr repräsentativen Capitol. Die freundlichen Ehrenamtlichen machten einen guten Job.
