Chris is amazing. I met him in the process of visiting most of the local jewelers looking for someone to resize my grandmother's engagement ring for me. He was friendly and professional, and kindly talked me through options for resizing while offering his recommendation on what would be most long lasting. Once I decided to have him do the work he was incredibly quick!! My partner and I, then asked him to also make her engagement ring. We had a pretty small budget and throughout the process he remained a wonderful communicator. He reserved his opinion when it was a matter of preferences and aesthetics so that she could decide what she liked, but was quick to give us more information when a decision would impact durability or our budget. As a queer couple, there is often a question as you begin to interact with a new person of how they may respond to you and your partner. I never felt a moment of discomfort with Chris. In fact, it's really hard to put into words how wonderful it felt to work with him. He's incredibly kind, warm, and considerate. I am so grateful that we got to work with him, and especially that he was part of creating this important symbol for my partner and I.

I've known Chris and his dad Terry since about 1995. His dad made a ring for me after cancer took the love of my life, and over the years it has changed with the changes in my life. Some good, some not so much. The constant was the ring. Like everything they create, it is a unique piece. NO one will ever have one even close. It is mine, and .... it is me. I am in the final chapter of my life, and I needed my old friend to make that transition with me. I tracked Chris down, we talked, and I sent the ring. Chris did a wonderful job for us! He started by repairing a fragile antique heirloom ring (right) that other jewelers told us was not repairable. He restored the ring so that it can be displayed and passed down to other generations. Then Chris created a contemporary interpretation of the ring (left) that can be worn every day. He consulted with us at every step in the process and created a one-of-a-kind ring that will be an heirloom in its own right. His artistry and craftsmanship are outstanding. We would not hesitate to recommend him.

I was referred to Chris by a downtown jewelry shop. I was a bit concerned because I was gifted a beautiful Diamond ring and had no idea of it’s value. I had a necklace to be made into a bracelet and a beloved pearl bracelet which needed to be restrung. What else can be said? I went to Chris Van Dyke because of his reputation as an incredible jeweler and family man in our community. I knew I could trust a man of his character with one of the biggest decisions of my life. I sought him out for an engagement ring and he helped explain the process of how to go about picking the perfect ring for my now fiancee. We used a computer generated design tool which helped me visualize the type of ring I knew my partner wanted. After what must have been 50+ mock-ups over the course of three months we honed in on the exact design and I cannot stress enough how well he executed this ring. It was crafted to pure perfection and she loves it! I first went to him to get ideas. I had been doing a lot of online research but the true partnership of working with a jeweler to help create one of the most intimate material symbols between you and your partner cannot be understated. We headed to Van Dyke Jewelry at the recommendation of friends of ours who had had a ring custom made by Chris. I chose a unique piece as an engagement ring and Chris was able to size it before we left town for the day. The piece is unlike anything you'd find anywhere else. Chris is absolutely amazing! He resized an engagement ring and 2 wedding bands in only 2 days. The engagement ring was cut and he even gave me the little piece that was removed. The bands he compressed per request. All 3 are perfect!! He is very kind and knowledgeable, he answered all my questions and helped me relax and feel completely comfortable leaving the rings. He worked with me in choosing the ruby, using diamonds from a ring my Mom's wedding ring to create magic born of a lifetime of loving memories. It is everything I'd hoped for. After talking with a few jewelers around town, Chris felt to me like the right person for the job. I wanted to get a piece of star rutilated quartz quartz set in a gold bezel. He is familiar with Ayurvedic jewelry and so was able to custom design a bezel that would allow the stone to touch my skin as I wear it. He called me to come in and take a look at what he had when he wanted to know if I liked it, but when something pretty much had to go a certain way with the project, he went ahead and took initiative. He made sure that the piece was to my liking and even started again from scratch when it wasn't totally what I had in mind. At the end of the process, the stone and bezel were perfect. He ended up using more gold than he thought he would, but he didn't charge me a penny over what he quoted me at. I am grateful for his work and will consistently recommend him. Chris is another Asheville craftsman who is very skilled and fulfilled by what he does.

Chris turned out to be a light in the darkness for a journey that seemed to have only more obstacles. Me and my fiance had been trying to make a ring for our engagement for some time before we found him. We tried quite a few places in Asheville alone, whom we will not name, but most of which had the same concerns for us; a lot of money for minuscule results, no sense of empathy, and used the artsy fartsy culture of Asheville as an excuse to charge more for something that would be $300 on Ebay. It seemed as if we had lost all hope in finding someone to help a young couple build something beautiful within a price range we could afford. Can't afford to live in this expensive-ass town as is but a custom ring seemed almost hopeless. Then we found Van Dyke one day on Google and figured, what the Hell?! Can't be worse than our last experiences. On the first visit alone he was absolutely honest with us on discussing a comfortable budget, made it clear the obstacles we would inevitably face, and from that point maintained an awesome line of communication thru email. Within about 2 weeks we already had a design. For the first time we were able to see an image that me and her only held in our hearts, and now we could look at it in intricate detail. After 3 solid months, given we took our time tweaking it because you can't rush something this important, we finally had our ring. Aside from the woman I love, it is the most beautiful thing to me in all creation. Chris made diligent efforts to help us make something extraordinary. If you don't pay him a visit then you'd be doing yourself a disservice. Thank you Chris. Me and Chelsea have never been happier.
