Kate's has wonderful vegan ice cream. The base of each ice cream is coconut milk but some of the flavors (like the pineapple one) had an interesting texture. Rose water cardamom almond was incredibly delicious and I appreciated that they had a very small size (the pup cup). This was exactly what I needed and was only $2!

One of the best gluten-free & dairy-free I’ve cream shops ever. Despite not having gluten or dairy, everything is amazing; I would probably say even better than regular items. I am glad the shop was able to get a better location and that I was able to come when they launched their Choco Taco item. Honestly, I would say they are better than the original, and definitely worth the try if you’re in the area. Highly recommend to all who are lactose and gluten intolerant, and even if you’re not, give it a try, I guarantee you’ll be blown away.

Simply put, Kate’s Great Plant-Based Desserts is AMAZING. As someone who is dairy-free it’s next to impossible to 1. Find dessert options without dairy and 2. Find dessert options that actually TASTE GOOD! You cannot go wrong at Kate’s the ice cream is delicious and dairy and gluten free. By FAR the best dairyless ice cream I have ever had! I sampled and had the Marionberry Cobbler, it tasted so delicious and all the mix-ins were fresh and tasty! No only that, but if you’re lucky, you might happen to meet Kate herself like we did! She’s incredibly sweet, and it’s always fun to meet a business owner and see how passionate they are about their craft!

I visited Kate’s Ice Cream for the first time in 2020 when it was a pop-up. So glad to have visited the adorable brick and mortar for the opening weekend on Mississippi. The vibe was great, the long line went super fast, and the ice cream is still the best vegan ice cream in town. I eat dairy and I still crave Kate’s ice cream. I had the marionberry crumble in a gluten free waffle cone but also tried four other flavors. There is no compromising on flavor or texture at Kate’s.

This is a sugar laden scent cloud of yummy so decadent you won't realize you are eating vegan and gluten free! We picked up waffle cones and a scoop of ice cream each after I requested to try five flavors as they all sounded so good. Based on description, I would have gone for lemon cheesecake but it was strong on lemon and I could not really taste the cheesecake flavor I wanted. This was the only flavor I was not happy with. The rest were great. The employees were very helpful and friendly and happy to help me figure out which flavors won. I say flavors because I narrowed it down to two and couldn't decide so I asked for a half scoop of each, which they kindly obliged. Even if you don't have dietary restrictions, they have unique, locally created, deliciously creamy flavors and I highly recommend them. They also had cake donuts, cookies and brownies.

This place took over the old Ruby Jewel place on Mississippi. They have a wide range of flavors of plant based ice cream. My favorite was the orange sherbet and lemon Blueberry cheesecake. It's definitely worth a try!

It's the best plant based ice cream in Portland, hands down. PLUS their waffle cones are dairy & gluten free as well, unlike every other shop that offers them. Do yourself a favor and go to Kates. Yes, it is more expensive than some random garbage ice cream. Yes, it is worth it. Service is always super friendly, and all the folks who work there are knowledgeable and very helpful.

We found this place on accident. How did we miss this vegan ice cream place !! The staff is patient and offer samples to you for tasting . We got the sundae brownie with two small scoops of ice cream - cookies and cream , triple chocolate. Our second order included the classic waffle cone with vanilla scoop. The ice cream was so creamy but the brownie was very flaky(maybe because everything is gluten free here). But it will be a spot to visit again. Wish I had taken more pictures before indulging into it.

THE BEST GLUTEN AND DAIRY FREE ICE CREAM AND DESSERT SHOP!! I wish they would come to Seattle! The cookie dough ice cream and waffle cones are my favorite! The scoops are large but it’s still a bit expensive but very comparable to other non dairy ice cream shops. IF IN PORTLAND STOP BY!!

Super yummy ice cream, you can tell a lot goes into the flavors and crafting them. As a Midwest girly I love the blue moon! So creamy and flavorful, and the prices are comparable to chain ice cream shops but for much better quality ice cream.

Walk don’t run. This place is not only adorable, but also amazingly delicious. I can’t believe the ice cream is vegan! I don’t know what witch craft Kate is doing to make her vegan ice cream taste even better than real ice cream but whatever it is, it’s working.

For me, this is an incredible ice cream shop, because I can eat any and every flavor here, all non-dairy. Being lactose intolerant, I generally am limited to the sorbets in any given ice cream or frozen yogurt shop. This is the first time EVER that I have been able to look at the entire display case and choose any flavor I wanted, and they are very generous at allowing taste testing. Moreover, each and every server behind the counter was exceptionally welcoming and friendly. I can see that I need to get back here again. Oh, and the ice cream itself is fantastic!

If ur vegan, you'll be in heaven. If ur not, it's a straight up delicious choice. TLDR: best Pistachio ice cream. Stellar consistency & flavor SO on point iykyk. The line was long-ish (which is a nice indication & let me really decide). It went real quick & the staff was so fun. I got pistachio, rocky road, and almond rose water. They all blew my socks off. The flavor is everything I wanted. The almond rose water was delicate and gently lingered. Rocky road - rich with chunky treasure. I also sampled a Blue Moon (where my Midwesterners at?!) - chefs kiss! Every option v & gf. Cones, bowls, samples. Just go!!!

You can smell this place from a mile away - the freshly made waffle cones are divine. I got the marionberry cobbler, which was hands down the best vegan ice cream I've ever had. Pair it with the salted peanut brittle and you've got the perfect PB&J! Fast and friendly service, and very generous with letting you sample flavors before making such a tough decision.

Just moved to the area and had the munchies. Passed by this place several times but never went in and boy I'm glad I did! I'm a bit lactose intolerant so I don't shy away from all dairy even though I probably should. I have to say this is the creamiest, smoothest ice cream I've ever had. I had no idea plant based could taste so AMAZING!! I've never had dairy free ice cream but this is a place everyone should try. I got the mint chocolate fudge in a waffle cone and bought a pint of the salted peanut butter brittle (because I was confident it would not disappoint) COME HERE IMMEDIATELY!!

Vegan ice cream can be hit or miss, but this place was delicious. The waffle cones were gluten-free which I appreciated because I went here with someone intolerant to gluten. I had the marionberry cobbler ice cream and loved it. I highly recommend this plave to fellow vegans and non-vegans.

Overall, a great place. They open late, even in the winter so it give a nice vibe to the area. I had the triple chocolate brownie and peanut butter brittle. Prices are a bit high, but not astronomical. I would defnitely visit again.

Really pretty space, thoughtful ingredients, and kind staff. However, all the flavors we tried were way too sweet. I couldn't even finish my single scoop. At $5.50 + tip for the single scoop in a cup, I was pretty bummed to be so underwhelmed. This city has a lot of good ice cream shops, many of which have plenty of dairy-free flavors...this is one I wouldn't go back to.

The best ice cream! I'm dairy-free and gave up trying to find good ice cream until my son asked to stop into Kate's when we were waking by one day. I tasted a bit of his and I could not believe that was plant-based ice cream. I was seriously suspicious it might have some dairy in it, just seemed too good to be true. But nope, no dairy, and no stomach aches. I've tried three flavors now and they have all been amazing.

Kates was an unplanned place for us while visiting Portland. We actually came upon this place while walking to check out a plant shop and I’m so glad we happened upon this cute little spot. My vegan hubby never gets waffle cones and was able to finally have one which was amazing but their ice cream is also amazing!! You honestly wouldn’t even know it’s vegan!! The rose water flavor is hands down our favorite. Both of us are still talking about it and drooling about it several days later. Wish we had Kates in FL because we already miss this spot!!

i’m bummed. kates ice cream is so yummy especially being plant based<3 but this was my first time & the service lacked. extremely. my partner & i have never been so we wanted to sample some which we even shared! (she didn’t tell us a limit) we felt rushed, and like she assumed that we were here just for samples & weren’t going to buy anything. we felt so uncomfortable we even apologized for taking so long & being unsure, she said nothing. the other girl was very friendly compared & even compliment my sweater & just had sweet energy! the other was very cold & honestly ruined the experience. it’s just ice cream but the judgment felt so heavy.

Okay when I walked in here I thought it was just an ice cream store but it happens to be a plant-based ice cream store no milk to be seen I had the vanilla and it was very good only a light Taste of the coconut water or milk used to make it on the back end but it was very good and the service was excellent

The pop-up is in a beautiful space. You'll have to go to the east side of the building to find the entrance. I sampled a few of the options and everything I tried was amazing! The Rose Cardamom was my favorite so I immediately got a cone. I also took home a pint of the mint chocolate and the peanut butter chocolate swirl. I'm not vegan. The texture us different from cow's milk ice cream. These aren't good for vegan ice cream, they are just good!

The ice cream was more icy than creamy and made the two flavors i tried (triple chocolate and cookies and cream taste more like sorbets than ice cream). The service and atmosphere was very nice but I likely wouldn't go back. There are better vegan ice cream options in the city.

One day while at New Seasons I saw Kate's ice cream in the dairy free section. The packaging was really cool and the flavor Marionberry Cobbler sounded absolutely delicious. So I bought it on a whim. I got home put my groceries away. I took it out of the freezer and got my favorite spoon out. As soon as I sat on my couch I dove in. The most amazing thing happened to my taste buds. The absolute best ice cream I have ever eaten (to date) danced all over my taste buds. Next thing I knew I was at New Seasons purchasing 5 more pints so I'd never go without. If Kate's ice cream is wrong I don't EVER want to be right.

I found out about Kate’s via recommendation. I’m new to the area and it was a place I had to visit. I absolutely love the scenery and area, the decorations are pleasant and they uphold sanitation and distancing very well. Now the ice cream is on a whole other level!! It’s incredible and I’m always super excited to hear about the new flavors they release! I’ve joined the mailing list so that I never miss out on a new drop!! 5/5 stars easy

Have you gone here yet, Portlandians? If the answer is no, then I have no idea what’s keeping you from indulging in the creamiest ice cream ever magically conjured from cashews. Or really from anything for that matter. This place is a treasure for everyone, but especially for those of us with dietary restrictions. We loved the cookies and cream and mint fudge. We are going back for the marionberry cobbler and rose water cardamom almond. That’s right. You can be down home or eclectically decadent here. Don’t skip the crisped to perfection gluten-free waffle cones either. If you want to feel better about eating such sinfully scrumptious fare, then bike here. I know it made us feel like we earned this truly tantalizing treat.

Just received my second shipment of Kate's Ice Cream. Im not one to shy away from any type of ice cream, dairy or vegan, and I had to write this because I. AM. ALL. IN. After literally one bite of the "salted peanut butter brittle", I was in disbelief that I had just tried the best ice cream I've ever had. So for research purposes, I had to take another bite. Turns out...it is. We also tried the "lemon blueberry cheesecake" (honestly....just as bomb as the peanut butter brittle) and "your favorite vanilla", which ,to my surprise, I enjoyed more than the southern favorite vanilla that I grew up on. Don't sleep on Kate's. She is changing the game and you guys have to try this.

My wife and I very much enjoyed our first visit to Kate's Ice Cream this afternoon. We eat a lot of ice cream in Portland. Based on today's visit, we believe Kate's plant-based ice cream and GF waffle cones can go head-to-head with any vendor in town (dairy or plant-based). I particularly liked Kate's Rosewater Cardamom Almond, and look forward to coming back for more. Kate herself took the time to talk with us, and could not have been nicer or more gracious. Overall, a great experience. Kate's is a little hard to find (it's located inside a gated courtyard off NE Sandy Blvd and Randall Avenue; my wife suggested to Kate that she float a brightly colored balloon above her street sign, to make it more noticeable) but you'll be happy you found it.

I legitimately go out of my way to pick up pints or get scoops from her ADORABLE pop-up shop. Good news for people who don’t feel like going too far from home - her pints are at a lot of local grocery stores (New Seasons, Market of Choice, etc.) I have been fan-girling Kate and her ice cream since ~2017 and will tell anyone who will listen. I will forever be a supporter. Last, but not least, she’s so sweet and cares about the community, no matter who you are. Do yourself a favor and try this ice cream. You will not be disappointed!

We visited for the first time today. It's a bit hidden. So look for the sandwich board sign on the sidewalk. I had a scoop of Mezcal Margarita. It was very tasty. I think I need to return and pick up a pint. A couple of scoops along with some tequila would make for a delicious adult beverage.

Kate's is by far the best plant based ice cream I've ever tasted. I am obsessed with the Marionberry Cobbler, and Mint Chocolate chip is a close second. P.S. I'm not on a dairy-free diet, so that factor is just an added bonus :)
