Everything is good here. Took our family of 4 out for some burgers and shakes. The bacon cheese burger was made very well and complimented with the fries and a chocolate shake it was a great meal. Kids meals came with an ice cream cone which both kids enjoyed. Total cost was around 8.50 per person as the shake drink was an upcharge. The staff was composed mostly of high school kids but they are trained well and took very good care of the grounds, and customers. Many of them bringing out orders in a quick fashion. If I had to make a suggestion it would be to add umbrellas for those hot summer days as many of the picnic tables just get beat on by the sun.

A great little, non-chain place to go. They serve burgers and such but we went straight for the ice cream. They only have soft serve. You can get chocolate, vanilla, or twist but there is a variety of toppings and mix-ins available. The ice cream was smooth, creamy, flavorful, and delicious. We really enjoyed it. There is no indoor seating but they have a bunch of picnic tables you can use - and some of them are in the shade.

This is one fine American eating establishment located in Elkhorn, NE. As a native from Omaha, I rarely venture this far west. The Dairy Chef provides more than enough reason to do so. I ordered their chicken fingers (with a side of ranch) and a chocolate shake. The chicken fingers were still very warm and were generous in portion. The medium chocolate shake was wholesome and delicious. 10/10 would recommend, just make sure you’re willing to wait in line 🙂

Great little family owned ice cream shop. Be prepared for a little wait, but they have tables outside you can grab while you do. Order at the counter and pay attention to your number. They have lots of teen staff calling out/running orders (if you can't or don't want to meet them at the side of the building). Great spot for a casual meal too.

We experienced this small ice cream shoppe for the first time today. My husband rated his chocolate shake with sprinkles a 10 out of 10. And my mushroom swiss burger was delicious and juicy. Will be back again. Highly recommend. I saw a flyer on the window advertising the showing of Encanto Aug 13th, 2022. Summer fun for the kiddos

First Visit, fast service even though they are very busy. I ordered double Swiss mushroom burger with onion rings. HUGE!!Hamburger is Absolutely good and filling. Onion rings not a huge thrill, Not sure if frozen or homemade.

Fast moving lines and friendly staff. The people working were awesome when I stopped with my wife and daughter. We got there at about 10 minutes to close just to grab some ice cream. As we sat and ate, the cars kept piling up and the line of people stayed full. The staff kept serving until about 945. They must be treated pretty well and enjoy what they do to stay late and take care of those customers the way they did. I’m sure what I saw was not just a fluke. Kudos to the staff and management for having such a stellar team. And the ice cream was good too!

Great ice cream - the ice cream cookie sandwiches are amazing and their ice cream cones are served cartoonishly tall. The burger menu is not a huge selection but it is unique and perfect for my tastes. I got the Irish burger (picture attached) and my wife got the garbage burger. Both were great! The best and creamiest ice cream around. Their burgers also don't disappoint. These are Omaha steakhouse meat, which is extremely good meat. The prices are decent and are worth the wait. The wait sometimes can be a little bit long, but I'd check Google maps and head when it's not busy. Highly recommended

Love this ice cream shop. Get The Break-up and add cookie dough. The staff is great. It is really popular so you may need to bring your patience as the line can get really long. If you want something else other than ice cream get a double Poppin Jalapeno Burger

Was told this was the local favorite and it lived up to the hype. I will definitely be going back. We only got ice cream this time but I would highly recommend the twist ice cream with peanut butter and cookie dough. Sorry I don't have photos, but it was too good and I ate it too quickly.

Burgers, fries & ice cream on a summer night…this is a perfect spot for it. Great grassy space in the back for kids to run around. I wish we would have brought a blanket to sit in the grass but the picnic tables worked great too.

My fiancee bullied me into driving all the way out to Elkhorn, although I still wasn't really on board, and we pulled up to a huge crowd of people on a Sunday night. After waiting for metaphorical hours, we finally received our burgers, mozzarella sticks, and ice cream. I've definitely had worse burgers; not bad not amazing, and same with our other sides... But the ice cream carried the night on its own. It was very good, I was definitely surprised, and now I see why hundreds crowd up and wait every night at this cute little shop!

Just the other night we drove by and there were about 25 people in a line waiting to be served. Yes people, it's that good. Dairy Queen could learn so much from them.

Dairy Queen tries to stand by its "Hot Eats, Cool Treats" mantra, but funnily enough, an Elkhorn institution just a stone's throw away from one blows that concept out of the water. Want a Reuben? How about a Philly sandwich? Pork tenderloin, fish or roast beef? Dairy Chef has that and more. The ice cream selection is just as varied featuring their famous "storms" (a riff off of DQ's Blizzards). Just like everything else, they one-up DQ as the storms may be a bit pricer, but you get loads more ice cream and toppings for your dollar and the taste is far more natural. They also feature flavors of the week and ice cream sandwiches made fresh. Between the sandwiches, pizza (yes, pizza), ice cream and everything else on the menu, DC embarrasses every DQ, especially the one all of 3-5 minutes away. They even feature their own root beer! You're doing yourself a disservice not scheduling a trip as soon as possible.

Dairy Chef is known for its ice cream, which is amazing. But its burgers and fries are also terrific. I suggest bringing towels to clean off a picnic table. Great food and a wonderful experience.

I am simply amazed at the taste, quantity, and cost of the ice cream! I really enjoy the weekly special flavors. I recently had the cherry and it was excellent. We enjoy going there for the treats and look forward to trying the food. They have alot of picnic tables for seating but no indoor seating.

Best ice cream I ever had in my entire life. The ice cream is so soft and very good at quality. I had vanilla tower cone ice cream and Breakup. Those were heaven. I also took tender chicken. I will highly recommend this place.

This place has always been outstanding every time we go. Some of the kids that work there could be a little happier but they are kids working for the summer. All in all is a great place with a wide variety. Recommend at least once.

It was our first time trying Dairy Chef, but it was fantastic! It was busy with a line when we arrived, but they moved quickly and we didn't have to wait very long. Our group tried a variety of items from plain vanilla ice cream, malts to the break up. Everyone loved what they ordered. We will definitely go again!

Very mixed. The first time I came here, I had the best burgers and shakes I've had in my life. The next visit, everything was actively bad, especially the burger. On the third trip, I would have preferred dairy queen but it was still good. I'll try a few more times to see if I get lucky again, but I'm starting to think it's not worth the drive

Ice cream is really good. If you get a cone, they create this beautiful tower of delicious soft serve ice cream. It's a little difficult to eat all of it before it melts, but the challenge is worth it! Staff is super fun and friendly. Only bad thing is, it's so popular there are long lines, and orders can take awhile.

I always see a line for this place so I had to check out what all the fuss is about, now I know. I ordered a burger with fries and a drink and that was good, I mean "hometown burger joint" good. And then I ordered a small vanilla ice cream on a cone and the ice cream was twice if not three times the length of the cone it was sitting on. Definitely well priced delicious food with teens holding down summer jobs with a small town feel. Love it, can't wait to take my daughters here.

When we arrived, there was quite a long line, but placing your order went quick. They were quite organized with the amount of people waiting. It was definitely worth the wait. Some of the best soft serve ice cream around. We each ordered medium versions and thet were more than enough. Can't wait to go back.

Super busy yet they still get their stuff out quick. Most ice cream places you get 95% ice cream and 5% toppings, but Dairy Chef do be that rare breed. I felt like I had 60% toppings and 40% ice cream and it was glorious. It was the first time I almost felt like I had eaten too much cookie dough which I didn't even know was possible. Anywho, an awesome place!

Not as crowded as usual. The raspberry shake is my favorite! Treated a freind to a ice cream also.Im surprized they have not expanded there store or added on to it.It needs more space! A favorite place in Elkhorn.

We've only had the ice cream here so far, but it's the best. Large portions and lots of options. The "Storm" is their version of a blizzard and honestly, it's much better. I've had the "Breakup Storm" and it's got so many mix ins, the medium is basically a large. The Turtle Sundae is so good, the medium is also like a large at other places. The ice cream itself is the best, doesn't taste fake or overly sweet, doesn't make me feel sick like some other corporate place, ahem. The chocolate and caramel aren't overly sweet either and so good. The Oreo that they mix in is real Oreo with the cream and everything. Now I'm questioning what they use at other places. They don't skimp here. Looking forward to trying everything else. They are always pretty busy so don't be in too much of a rush when you go cause there's usually always a line, but they are pretty fast at getting everything out and the staff is friendly.

Best soft serve ice cream there is! My family and I have been coming here for 20+ years and Dairy Chef never disappoints. The service is fantastic and the nostalgia is great too. Don't let the line deter you, the high school kids working keep the line moving and everyone is friendly and always willing to give suggestions should you be unsure of what to order. It's a special treat since Dairy Chef isn't open year round. Stop in and try the soft serve and a burger, you won't regret it. The pork tenderloin sandwich and homemade fries are delicious as well! If the line is crazy long, pop inside and grab an ice cream sandwich or a quart of ice cream go take home!

Simple old fashioned diner with a TON of tasty food and ice cream. They have a great spin on things too like a pizza burger (which I highly recommend) or a chicken Philly. The ice cream has great flavor and loads of toppings to choose from. Definitely will be back soon to try more and it's easy to see why it's so busy. Fast service for how busy they are as well!

For being a small joint, this place is popular! Was very busy when we went, but they still got us our food and ice cream very quickly. Their fries are great and you have to try their cookie ice cream sandwiches! One was definitely enough for 2 kids.

This is an awesome place for some of the best ice cream around. They have excellent burgers and other foods. Well worth going. They are normally closed for the Winter, but this year they are open during Christmas to sell some trees. They have some great Christmas themed ice cream treats and their famous ice cream cookies. I was very impressed by my first visit at Dairy Chef, it gives you the small town local ice cream shop feel. I like how you can order outside through a window and eat outside as well because the inside tends to really fill up quick especially during the busy times due to small amount of indoor seating available. Also the quality of the food/dessert items on the menu were very good as well. The food that I received seemed very fresh and nice portion as well. Prices were reasonable a tad on the high side but overall it was worth the price. Was very happy with my visit at Dairy Chef and will be back again.

If you’re thinking about going to DQ, sonic, or freddy’s, DON’T! GO HERE INSTEAD! YOU WON’T REGRET IT!! A summer tradition with the best ice cream in town. The burgers are fantastic too! A great treat after a workout or just to treat yourself. Hospitable staff. If you’re looking for a great, local treat on a summer night, this is your place! Indoors is very small but they do have tables available and bathrooms. Orders they have numerous picnic tables for eating under long awnings.

Amazing place! I've been coming to Dairy Chef for pretty much as long as I can remember. The ice cream is the best in town, and the cones are huge. The food is excellent, too, but the ice cream is the highlight. In my opinion, there are two ice cream joints that stand head and shoulders above everyone else in town: Dairy Chef, and Coneflower. If you want soft serve, Dairy Chef is where you go. If you want traditional ice cream, Coneflower is the place to be. Everything else is only worth it if these two are closed. Also... Ice cream cookie sandwiches. It's kind of crazy how good these things are. If you're a chocolate fan, go for the breakup; it will blow your ice cream loving mind!

Ice cream is delicious and served in huge portions. It is very reasonably priced as well! Seating inside is limited, but during the late spring, summer and fall months the weather is usually nice to eat outside (which is more fun anyways!). Their burgers and fries taste awesome too.

Delicious! What a treat. The ice cream is creamy and dense and sooo smooth. I can't stop thinking about my peanut butter and snickers ice cream and we will certainly be back for more this summer. Dairy chef had a great selection on the menu and lots of add-ins to choose from. Servings are very generous, so make sure you save room for a special treat.

First visit since the renovated Dairy Chef re-opened under new ownership. My daughter and I each had a BBQ beef sandwich. They were delicious and had a generous amount of meat. My son had a bacon cheeseburger and said it was excellent. We all had shakes. They tasted great and I thought they were a good value. They even did a custom hot fudge/raspberry blend at my request. Fantastic! Part of their slogan is "the only thing frozen is our ice cream". The owner said they get their meat fresh from a local Elkhorn company and cook it while you wait. In short, an ice cream stand done the good old-fashioned way. I have already recommended the Dairy Chef to other family members. We will definitely be back for more!

Ice cream is delish. I appreciated the attention to special diets in this visit, especially. I ordered the gluten free/vegan flavor with fresh strawberries. When my order was ready, it had strawberry syrup instead. Before I could even ask, the employee explained that she noticed some candy had fallen into the fresh strawberries and didn't know if they were gluten free, so she substituted with syrup to be safe. Thank you! Also, the gluten free/vegan ice cream sandwiches are amazing. Go early in the week; they always sell out!

Lived in the area for two years. Finally tried it for the first time. I wasn't disappointed! Their chocolate storm is really good. Brownie pieces, oreo pieces and chocolate ice cream is AMAZING! It's a bit pricey, but supporting small businesses is very important. So, I'm willing to spend more money.

The sandwich ( tenderloin) was good size. They just need to follow directions when making them as I asked for only ketchup & got mustard too. My husband had a hamburger with no cheese & got cheese on it. The strawberry shakes were very good & thick, the way I like them.

Darn you. You have ruined onion rings for me, I never knew I needed onion rings this way. Now I can't get onion rings anywhere else because they won't be as good. All the food is always great. There is a bit of a wait but it is well worth it.

LOVE this place. It's like Dairy Queen, if Dairy Queen were locally owned and had good food. Seriously, places that specialize in ice cream generally have mediocre-at-best regular good, but Dairy Chef has it both. Delicious burgers, and wonderful ice cream -- which is usually overflowing over the top of the container, so you always get your money's worth. On 204th, it may be a little out of the way for most people on Omaha, but it's well worth the visit.

I really liked this roadside eatery. Fresh food made daily. Lots of choices, and thin sliced roast beef is a specialty. I got a lot of food and great friendly service for a great price. It was pretty busy (A sign of good food) but The wait was minimal. I had a cheese burger, home cut fries, and soda pop.

Nice little place, prices are comprable or less than a Dairy Queen. They make real malts. I took my daughter's on a little daddy daughter date and they enjoyed it. The Nostalgia of eating outside is kind of cool. And the place is always packed. I would recommend to go in on a weeknight for your first time to save yourself some line.

First time here. Food is very good. Staff is friendly. My ice cream storm wasn't with my order. Someone had put it in the freezer because it was melting. If it melted while they made the burger, wouldn't most places just remake it?

The best ice cream anywhere - beats D.Q. hands down a hundred times over. Get "the breakup" storm and you won't be disappointed - the mini is plenty. If you want a burger, try the Garbage burger. It's amazing but grab extra napkins!

Dairy Chefs serve all coned icecream in those little sugar cones, and the ice cream in then can be 3 inches tall to about a foot tall. I would definitelly recommend staying there to eat your delicious dessert (or dinner, nobody's judging) without it toppling over in your car.

There's nothing like the taste of your childhood. Dairy Chef will bring you back to your childhood, going "uptown" with your dad or grandpa to get a cone on a hot summer day. This place was recommend to me by a client in the area. I have only been here once and ordered a lg shake and some chilli chees fries. The chilli chese fries surprized by the size of the order. There was so much you could make them a meal just by themselves. The large shake was really great too. I would definitely go back again if in the area.

Dairy Chef is the quintessential small town highway ice cream stand. Though Elkhorn isn't such a small town anymore, Dairy Chef has the same feel as when the Anderson family ran it in 1976. Back then, Omaha was 20 miles away, and Dairy Chef was one of three places to eat in Elkhorn. The bowling alley next door has been torn down, and the Circle B Bar downtown is gone, but Dairy Chef has survived nearly a half century. Order at the window, and eat at outdoor tables under an awning. The food is just what you would expect... greasy and comfortable. The ice cream is good, and on a summer night you will stand in a line to the street with a horde of others.
