I couldn’t get all the way through the door before I was greeted by Rashad. That’s nice. I’ve been here before but hadn’t left a review. So here it is. Very clean establishment with great customer service (I’ve been here 3 times now this year) I remember you can taste as many samples of the ice cream as you want. They have peach cobbler that’s so buttery and delicious. I’m a crust kind of girl and it touches my soul. I’ve gotten it at every visit. The lemon sunbeam ice cream is really good. Reminds me of a lemon ice cream I had as a child. Nostalgic for sure. Both the peach cobbler and lemon sunbeam ice cream are featured in my photo. I also love the support of other black businesses at this establishment. There’s a portion of their bar top seating area dedicated to various information on businesses for resources one might need.

OMG!!! This place is absolutely amazing. Definitely a gem on the south side of Chicago. We were visiting from out of town and were so amazed at the customer service, patience and attentiveness of the young adults that were At the counter. The decor and place was so beautiful and my oh my was the ice cream and cobbler absolutely to die for! So impressed by this place and sad that I do not have one back home now !! If I could give 10 stars I would! Keep up the amazing work you all and I wish you nothing but success in abundance!!!!! 🙌🏽🙏🏽

Wonderful service. The staff will greet you the moment you walk in. Wali is super friendly recommending all the popular flavors. I ended up with cinnamon vanilla and bourbon butter pecan. Trust me you will find nothing on this planet that compares to their bourbon butter pecan. The other flavors I like are rum & raisin and chocolate. I highly recommend this place and will visit again.

Light ice cream that taste delicious. Unlike any ice cream I have ever had before (and we have tried thousands of ice cream). Taste like the most homemade ice cream I’ve ever had (which is a great thing!) Somewhat slow service but worth the wait. Try, support, and come back for more!

Came here yesterday afternoon for the banana pudding ice cream, I enjoyed it but it does melt fast. I don’t particularly eat peach cobbler but I tried that as well and enjoy it. The staff showed good customer service and were very efficient. A little pricey for a scoop of ice cream but just my opinion.

Went here on a whim. Just yelped a place nearby for ice cream. Staff was friendly. I got a milkshake and it was quite delicious. I thought the price was a bit steep for milkshakes compared to the other menu items, but it was very good ice cream and really rich and creamy. My friend got the sundae with brownies and that was extremely good and filling as well. Brownies were so rich. Looking forward to trying other flavors as well.

Soooo tasty! The place was packed and there was a short wait, yet none of the usual irritation from customers or staff. I realized why after I received my ice cream - everyone was happy to be there and anticipating their dessert! It is that good - there were smiles all around. I had the brownie turtle sundae and my husband had peach cobbler w/2 scoops, believe the hype... It was amazing! 🤩 Shout out to the staff - very polite and hard working.

Hi there I just want to say that I’m a very loyal customer. I have a few issues with the last few times I’ve been there. I’m a big peach cobbler buyer and I notice the difference in the taste Also the added dark peaches which make it taste totally different. I’m very disappointed with this because The way it originally tasted is what kept me coming. I understand that prices for making it has changed. But I really think you should make It just like you did in the beginning of your opening. The butter crust was really delicious the peaches were very light and tasty. I visited this place a few months ago, but forgot to leave a review… As an ice cream lover, this place definitely hit the mark! The banana pudding Ice cream was by far my favorite, but the bourbon buttermilk pecan was a close second. My family also enjoyed the peach cobbler, vanilla, and strawberry shortcake ice cream flavors. I’ll definitely be back to try the lunchroom butter cookie flavor. The customer service also exceeded my expectations; I was greeted warmly when I entered, wasn’t rushed to put in my order (I’m indecisive, so I take a while ordering anything), and I was able to sample a few flavors before deciding on one. Can’t wait for my next visit!

Got a chance to make it by for a Sunday family outing , we were looking to try the sugar free amd vegan ice cream and of course the regular items. We arrived to a line at the door but that didn’t deter us from staying to see what the hype was all about. All male staff and they took care of business , they took our orders as the line moved up and did a great job or knowing and explaining the menu amd even gave good recommendations. The wait time was a bit long from standing in line to waiting for our items to be prepared so don’t be in a rush. Overall , grandmas sugar free ice cream is a winner! It melts fast so it almost didn’t make it home but it was good. And I’ll pass next time on the apple cobbler, way to thick and the apples still had the skin on it🤷🏽‍♀️.

I went this evening & had the most delicious ice cream of my life: butter cookie ice cream. I'm sure there was a trendy name involved but I was too busy eating the delicious dessert to really pay attention. The service was excellent, the ice cream was decadent, rich & so creamy! I loved it!

My sis and I saw Shawn Michelle's on an episode of Somebody Feed Phil. So when were visiting Chicago, we paid a visit to the shop. Rashad was so helpful and welcoming. I love them and have came quiet often. The flavors are great and the staff are so polite but they are just SOOOOOOOOOOO slow. Like molasses slow. Which I don’t understand since it’s just ice cream. Even when in there alone placing an order it was at least 20 minutes. That’s the only hang up….there slow and I don’t know why.

I’ve never really been a fan of peach cobbler, unless it’s homemade. But tried it here for the first time & omg, in looove! I’m also picky about ice cream since I’m naturally a BlueBell lover BUT their ice cream is on that same level of deliciousness! Anytime I’ve come here, I’ve received good customer service. My family member even came here and said they made a mistake on their order, called and their team went above & beyond to correct it! Love this place!! Amazing experience! Came here after seeing it on Somebody Feed Phil and it's a lovely place, the covid measures were good (masks and gloves were worn, distancing is made outside in line and inside, temp is taken for every customer on the way in, stations inside are distanced), staff were also very friendly and helpful! As of the food it was phenomenal! I had a double strawberry cookies and cream, the strawberry ice cream was very strong and the cookies were a great balance with chocolate flavor. Totally coming back to try more flavors

I do Ride-share and took a family there. They were raving about the place that it caught my interest and decided to go in. The Atmosphere was Bright, Clean, & Organized. The Service was Friendly, Polite, Genuine. The only thing they lack is more employees. Now i was torn between Ice Cream or Cobbler.. I opted for the Peach Cobbler and it was Amazing. I love this place! Their ice cream is so good and always tastes fresh, no freezer burned cream over here (and that's important to me because I tend to bite my ice cream 😅). My fave is the banana pudding flavor and the waffle cone I got was fresh and crunchy the way the genius that created that delicacy intended. If you have a moment definitely check them out for some of the best sweet treats you can get on the Southside.

We tried some samples at the small location in time out market. So we decided to go to the parent location to get the full experience. We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door. Great customer service that walked us through the menu and offered us a number of different samples. All the flavors were delicious. I came for the peach cobbler but walked out with a couple scoops of ice cream as well. We all were very satisfied. With ice cream. I had the vanilla (by far the best I've had) and the strawberry cheesecake. Will go back to try some other flavors as the butter cookie sample was incredible. Reminds me of eating freshly baked butter cookies as kid or a frozen version of Mastro's butter cake.

I purchased the Strawberry Shortcake, I wish it had strawberries in it. It was good, but the hint of lemon on the pound cake clashed with the Strawberry drizzle. Order the extra scoop of ice cream, the pound cake is thick. The ingredients separately taste amazing. I will visit again.

We came here with 7 kids! Wallie was exceptionally welcoming and charismatic and was so pleasant! All of our kids felt cared for as he gave him their individual ice cream. This is my childhood ice-cream place, I remember went they first opened 1998 on 79th an Langley I was 10 years old ,as kid I would go here all the time but they closed, I was heartbroken, my favorite flavor was honey cinnamon. 23 years later I find out this is the same place. THEE best homemade ice cream! I'm having it again after some years! (Our first experience was when they were off of 95th & King Drive yeaaars ago. They moved to like 119th & Western, then moved again & I lost them.. Turns out they moved to a couple other spots after that. But now they are back on the south side.)..... Everyone have to try their ice creams at least once. My favorite back in the day & still (as I'm reminded by that first spoonful taste today) is the Jamaican Rum Raisin! My son's favorite, that he barely gave me a taste of cause he loves it so much, is the Honey Cinnamon Graham Cracker. Try 'em on Sun, July 19... Get a FREE scoop for National Ice Cream Day! Best peach cobbler I've ever tasted from an establishment hands down. Brownies are good too. Ice cream is ok, interesting flavors but the taste is just like eating ice cream anywhere else. Add the ice cream with the cobbler or brownie n it will add a better experience to your taste buds. But brownie n cobbler will have you coming back for more either way.

It's always a pleasure to stop by Shawn Michelle's and get some of the best ice cream in Chicago for the family. They always provide excellent service. We stopped by today and the 2 young guys working were cool and very respectful. They gave us samples without us having to ask which was great, they made suggestions on how to improve the order (adding extra crusts,pairing ice creams etc), and they let me know I accumulated enough point for a free brownie! 🤣🤣 The workstations and counters were clean and sanitized and this provides a worry free experience when you visit.

Last night,12/17 I gave a rating of 5 stars but that quickly changed when I got home and realized all the ice cream I purchased was not in my bag. I purchased 10 items but only received 8. I spent a little over $50(which is a lot) so I expect to get what I paid for. No one called me (they could’ve looked up my phone number from my rewards account.No one else was in the store at the time) to say hey we forget to give you some of your ice cream. So I’m a little disappointed, but I’m going to give ShawnMichelle’s an opportunity to correct the mishap. I’m sure they will be willing to give me exactly what I paid for and provide great service. I’ll keep you posted.

Delicious and fresh handmade ice cream. There's a great variety of unique flavors that have a familiar feel. The staff is friendly and professional. The cobblers are amazing! I had the lemon pound cake sundae on one visit and loved it. My family had the milk shakes and were very happy with them. They work hard to maintain real SOCIAL DISTANCING. The lines are clearly marked and the attendants ask guest to stay within lines to keep the separate customers apart. There can be a line depending on when you arrive. But the ice cream is so good that I don't mind a wait. This is a definite must visit and a keeper.

I went last Monday around 2pm and I have to say I am still dreaming about the ice cream. I had the strawberry, salted caramel duo and it was fantastic. I was disappointed in the service. It was very slow and at some point one of the associates said she forgot I was there to complete my order. Absolutely the best ice cream, period. However, watch your receipt. In fact, be sure to get your receipt. They advertise buy one get one free but I was charged for three items instead of two. I would not have gotten 3 had it not been for the special! This ice cream is pricey: $7 for two scoops! The place is loud. Everyone is wearing masks. It's hard to hear what they're instructing you to do and there are lots of instructions. If you like going to the DMV, you'll like going here. The first time I had the ice cream,my friend bought it only to later discover they didn't put part of the order in the bag. We had to call, show up the next day and give our printed receipt so they could make good on their mistake. This time, I'll take the hit. Yes, it's the best ice cream I've ever had in my life, particularly the banana pudding ice cream, wow, but the customer experience is so poor I'd rather take the L than go back.

I am a regular here. I came here on the first week it opened. The best ice cream shop in the Chicago area. They have a lot of flavors to choose from. What I like is that you can get flavors here that you can't find anywhere else. I love the peach/apple cobbler, and they also have vegan options. The place is very organized. They have to be, because the place is so popular that it can get crowded in the summer. Great customer service. They abide by covid rules. What a hidden GEM 💎!! My husband and I live in the Bronzeville area and a family member told us about this place. The moment I found out they had Peach Cobbler A La Mode it was GAME OVER! I made my husband drive me over immediately for my own piece of heaven, and can I say it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! There was a line outside along 47th in which we waited no longer than 15min on a Friday evening. The staff is friendly, professional, welcoming and helpful! They give you an ordering menu before you step inside so that you can select what you want before you get to the counter, which helps speed up the process. They have a great and effective system once you get inside and have your order taken. THE ONLY thing that probably could have used a bit of attention was the checkout/cashier process. She was very sweet and kind, but you could tell she was just starting to learn the process herself, so it took a bit longer than expected once I had my ice cream in hand to pay and walk out. Other than that, the moment I stepped outside to taste my Peach Cobbler a La Mode.. WHOA!! It was as if nothing else mattered in the world besides the fact that it would end soon.. once I finished my treat. We drove home from 47th & Wabash to 34th and Prairie and my ice cream didn’t stand a chance. I was done with it before we hit 35th, it was sooo good! I’ll be telling everyone I know to come here and try something and I’m certain they’ll feel the same as I do!

I tried the vegan Pina Colada ice cream and it is absolutely delicious. A little pricey but the taste and quality is amazing! I absolutely love this establishment from the aura to the ice cream flavors. However, lately it’s been hit or miss. Today I went in and waited in line for roughly twenty minutes for ice cream and cobbler. When I got to my car, I realized that I received a minimal amount of ice cream and . cups were so light. Not to mention, my cobbler was placed into a small ice cream cup instead of a container. While I’m not sure if the quality of service was due to two new staff being on board, it is unfortunate that the customer has to suffer in that aspect considering the cost of the ice cream.

Edit 2: Apparently my first uber driver ran off with my stuff. They finally reached out to me 2.5 hrs after I placed my order to figure out what was going on. Got an adequate replacement for the items I ordered that were then out of stock. Keeping my original edit because I still find it problematic that they have no way of contacting the store directly. Edit 1: Removed another 2 stars because they have NO WAY of getting in contact with the store. It's just an endless voice-mail loop. Ordered via UberEats and couldn't get in contact with ANYONE to find out why my order is running 2 hours late.

I have to be honest and say I was prepared to write a poor review because of what you will read later but I can't. I got the strawberry cookies and cream ice cream and the peach cobbler and no exaggeration it was the best of both I have ever had. I had to change my mood after eating it. HOWEVER, one thing that was disappointing was that you could not sample anything. This place would be amazing if they invested in the tiny spoons they have at Coldstone and maybe put a 3 or 4 taste test limit on customers. That is one of the best things about ice cream places is the experience of multiple flavors without having to buy each flavor to see if you like it or not. If I buy it and dont like the flavor will I then get a refund instead? Hopefully they change their minds on that, I understand that some people get greedy but there are ways around that. But overall I can't lie it was good.

It's so difficult finding vegan options, when my daughter told me they had used this place as a case study in school we had to go and see what the fuzz was about and it did not disappoint. The old fashion vanilla is to die for!!! Loved the ice cream but I was a little disappointed in the amount that you get. For 4 scoops of ice cream, 2 on a sugar cone 2 in a cup was $12.04. I could have went for it except the scoops on the cone were the size of a golf ball. The two in the cup was much bigger. AND, she told me I was getting a 25% discount! So imagine the price without the discount for 4 scoops all together! But overall, great ice cream.

The service was extremely professional during post-COVID times. All of the employees had masks and a guy was at the door to let in people from from the line that formed outside. They have straps of tape on the sidewalk to allow customers to practice social distancing though some don't and get a nasty attitude you ask them to step 6 feet away. However, that was just an ignorant customer and doesn't reflect on the business itself. The ice cream is the best part! All homemade! My kids had chocolate and banana pudding while I had the vegan flavors coco rum and pina colada. I could've gone to a black-owned ice cream shop closer to my home but they didn't have the delicious homemade flavors that Shawn Michelle has.

Shawn's ice cream is a MONSTER creamy treat. I grew up on hand packed ice cream from the Baldwin Family plant on 48th & Indiana and later at 80th & South Park. A welcome tradition of a Black owned & operated ice cream parlor is resurrected in the new persona of Shawn Michelle's Homemade. Thank you, AARP! You know how to treat your volunteers to the return to a rich ice cream tradition. Couldn't have picked a better Bronzville site than the old Rosenwall building of my youth. BlackButterfly.
