This is the best place for frozen custard in a variety of custom flavors. My daughter got a Blue Ridge Madness Whitser today and loved it. You cannot go wrong with most flavors. You can taste the daily flavors first to decide what to order. You can also add toppings to any of the daily flavors. Red Velvet Cake is a new favorite flavor! Gooey Butter Cake is another favorite flavor!

You take one look at me and you know, this girl doesn't throw away ice cream. First time for everything. I've driven past Whits nearly every week for the last seven months and each time have wanted to stop and see what the fuss was about. This time, I finally pulled over and got in line. I ordered the penguin tracks: vanilla, brownie bites, chocolate fudge, what's not to love? A few spoons in I hit the jackpot - a massive ripple of chocolate! Except... something bad happened to that chocolate. It tasted like carob. I hate carob. It was bitter and sour. Not even the brownie bites could fix what was happening in my mouth. The custard was melting into crystals. I got home and tossed the cup. Update: I went back and got a simple vanilla with heath bar chunks. This time, the custard was exactly what it was supposed to be. Lesson learned? Avoid the chocolate syrup like the plague.

Pleasant little place off the main strip. Currently taking orders from the side window. They have 8 chairs that you can try and snag to sit on the front porch. The menu was a little confusing to follow and I ended up paying more for my custard than I thought. It was worth it though.

We come to Asheville every year to visit family and no lie we go to Whits every night we're here. This year has been no different pertaining to the product... it is still exceptional (except for pumpkin pie... not my cup of tea). However, i don't think the owners care if they sell custard or not. Recently they've lost their sign which use to display the flavors... now you either have to go to FB or wait till you get there to ask. It's so easy to buy a temporary sign.. another night we just made it in time to place or order and were eating on the porch and noticed others coming were being turned away. It was just before 8pm and they had closed early due to "staffing shortage".. we saw at least 10 cars drive away... the last think is covid is over but they still are selling only from the window. I know they are not selling alot of custard from the case and I'm sure impulse buyers would by more if they saw the case... like i said.. do they really want to sell custard ice cream to AVL residents and visitors? With other ice cream joints ( Jeremiah's) coming in to town.. whits is losing lots of sales! The custard is 5 stars.. the care to the customers is 3 or less.

It was good. However my ice cream was 50% melted when handed to me. Spilling everywhere. All over my hands trying to get it. Also said no strawberries and got them anyway. But it was still ok. My friends turned out great.

This place has a good variety of creations packaged in to go containers in the freezer if you do not like the daily selection. They manage to combine some incredibly creative ingredients into their desserts. We had the mud pie which has crushed cookies and cream, caramel swirls and light espresso coffee flavor. The coffee flavor was not overpowering and this combinations turned out to be better than expectations. I look forward to trying another flavor.

Whit's custard is divine! They offer an array of flavors; every flavor is delicious, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the coconut macaroon. Fresh macaroons are embedded throughout the custard, and the actual custard is mouth watering. Any time I have an out of town visitor, I stock up on some Whit's custard to offer my guests. A delightful treat indeed!

My 10 year old grandson's birthday was this past Saturday, and he told me he wanted a "very special birthday cake." I thought of Whit's and looked into it. Although Whit's has only vanilla and chocolate flavors available every day, and then two additional special flavors each day, for a custom cake they allow you to choose any two flavors from their total list of 71 flavors, which they will make in a small batch just for you (take that, Baskin Robbins!) Additionally, they will allow you to add "a reasonable number" of toppings to your cake, from among the 37 toppings they offer. In the case of my grandson, Whit's thought his request for six (6!) toppings was still "reasonable" The surprising part was how reasonable the price was. For Ben's custom cake, an amply sized "small" serving 6-8 people, it was only $20 plus tax. A "large" cake is available for $28. It was yummy. Highly recommended, particularly if you're tasked with buying a birthday cake for a ten year old.

I've never had Frozen Custard before so I wasn't sure what to expect and my son is extremely picky when it comes to food textures/flavors; however, when we got inside the first thing they offered was a taste sample and explained that they make it fresh daily. Wow was it GOOD! I got the Brownie (it was warmed), Vanilla Custard, whipped cream and cherry. Oh my Gosh, to die for! My son had the Italian Ice and he LOVED it! My husband had a Banana Split and as you guessed it was a hit! Inside was nice and clean and nicely decorated. Parking was a bit tight but there was nothing more they could do. Not being around this area we didn't know where to park (other then the parking lot) in order to walk there. Employees were kind, helpful, polite and wonderful!!! If your in the area we suggest you stop here and get some Frozen Custard this place it AWESOME!

Absolutely the best frozen dessert in town! They only have 2 specialty flavors "on tap" each day, and I like seeing what will be featured next. Don't like surprises? That's ok! They have freezers full of pints and quarts of dozens of flavors for you to take home and enjoy. Not to mention their delicious custard cakes. And the staff are always friendly and helpful. So much to love about this place!

Had the caramel and vanilla ice cream and this berry/chocolate chip mixture. It was good and tasty. Better than most custard places that I have ventured to throughout the US, including one of the top ones in Las Vegas. I would eat here again and would recommend it. The price of the custard matched the amount that you pay, so you get well worth the money you spent and more. Try it, I'm sure you'll like it. Removed one star because I wasn't wowed, but that shouldn't deter you from coming and eating the custard.

The frozen custard was very good. They have a verity of preparations from an ordinary cup to a cup with items bended in it. There are a lot of great flavors. The small is very big and my wife got a kids cup and it was enough for her. They have friendly service and are very helpful with recommendations

Hubby and I stopped in about ten minutes prior to closing, but the people working here were so nice to us! I sampled their two seasonal flavors - strawberry chocolate chip and caramel pecan. I expected to like the former the best, but it was lacking that real zing of berry flavor I was looking for. I usually don’t like nuts in my ice cream, but the caramel flavor was super sweet and I totally fell in love! So I got the caramel pecan with Reese’s mixed in - fast decision so I could get out of their hair. Hubby got some kind of chocolate mint. There’s no seating inside, but there is on the porch! This was perfect - we left them to close up shop and we enjoyed the nice weather outside! Custard is a constant craving for me, we will probably come back here the next time we’re in town!

My first time, a little confusing at first (do not trust Google maps to get you there, it will take you past it and down the road to a dead end)...theres only a walk up window for ordering. But once I figured that out I was all set. Plenty of options and the prices you'd expect from a speciality shop like this. (A bit high but it's also high quality product) it's worth going to, the custard was DELICIOUS.

There are four choices of custard. Lots of choices for toppings. The mocha and Irish cream was just ok. Didn't really taste like either. My daughter got a chocolate custard which was great but brownie underneath didn't taste very good. Almost artificial like processed. Skip the brownie. My husband had a peanutbutter mix that he thought was perfect.

It's cold, it's sweet, and it's got mixins, hard to go wrong. It just.. idk the portions were too big, I got a medium expecting it to be 2 scoops, instead it was a fast food sized medium of 16 oz. That's more ice cream than I can eat without bit getting all melted and my mouth being completely frozen and all sense of taste lost. The flavor was not significantly different from a mcflurry. honestly wasn't impressed.

If you told me custard would make a great ice cream I would laugh and walk the other way. But my granddaughter and daughter like it so I went there expecting to be very disapointed.. much to my surprise I found it better then goid.. smooth, creamy, and very good. So good I went a second time before leaving Asheville. Price is reasonable, servings are not consistent between the 2 we visited. The first was larger servings. The second felt like the may have been owner's. The servings were much smaller, but still tasty.

If you have never had custard you need to try it, in my opinion custard is tastier than ice cream and it is healthier too. Whit's has different weekly flavors, and lots of different combos like floats, splits, dessert sandwiches and many others.

Everyone seems to love Whit's. I'm a tourist. The first time I went it was with locals, but now whenever I'm in Ashville I find myself there at least once. They have a website where you can get the flavors listed... and one way or another they always have tubs of Buckeye ready to go. Super friendly staff, great custard, waffle cones, ices and more, all packed in a quaint former stone house. What's not to love?

Special frozen treats are served here at this family-owned business operated out of a converted Arts & Crafts-style residence. This is not your run-of-the-mill ice cream joint where some high schooler takes your order at the counter and then turns to take another order from the drive-in thru a head set. These people are so warm & friendly. They smile and don't rush you thru your order, and you feel like you're getting a taste of authentic Blue Ridge culture. There's a small bar where you can sit and watch the traffic from a window or you can relax on the front porch out of the heat...like the "good ol' days." My kids beg to come here for their favorite dish, "Fish Bait," which has toppings like cookie dough & gummy worms with frozen custard. I love the "Asheville Gem" which has fudge, caramel, & pecans with vanilla custard. You can order it like a Sundae with the toppings added on top, or "Whitser" style with all the ingredients blended, which is my favorite way. The frozen custard is made in-house, and I think the flavors are rotated daily. Whit's is definitely on my list of places I'd recommend to anyone visiting Asheville for the first time. There just aren't many places like Whit's!

Usually go to their store in S Asheville but it was closed for long holiday break. Same products; delicious maple crunch and vanilla. Prefer the rich taste of this custard over ice cream. Surprised to find their stores don't share the same reward/ punch card incentive for frequent buyers.

This place has great custard with many options. It is very creamy. The only real flaws are it can be rather expensive and there are only 4 flavors per day, although the mix ins allow for more variations.

Oh man guys. This is the place this is the spot. I can't think of any other cold sweet treat that I would rather have. There ice cream sandwiches are out of this world. I like to buy a couple and freeze them at home. I have to hide them but when I get in a fight with the wife a well hidden ice cream sandwich has saved the day. Also the punch card from the south location dosent work at the North location.

There's a dangerous aspect of Whit's that no one talks about. You see it and you think it's just some ice cream place. Then you see that it's frozen custard and you think, the stuff in doughnuts, and you assume it's probably just like frozen yogurt or gelato. But you're wrong. It's not just fro-yo, or gelato, or ice cream. It's something else. Something that you don't find anywhere else, and it doesn't matter what little treat you pick up for yourself, it doesn't matter what little indulgence you find, it's not frozen custard...and until it is frozen custard you won't feel happy or satisfied. So yeah, if you want to be healthier, and spend less money go to Whit's you'll never waste your time or money on something as trivial as ice cream again.
