We made an appointment with Lenz after we had our furnace go out before the -30 wind chills this winter. We were concerned that the “fix” we had done by another company was temporary and our 20+ year old system was nearing its service life. We wanted to be proactive and gather quotes. Al was great at walking us through all of our options and what he would recommend. He did not try to oversell or push us to the most expensive options, rather tries to get us a system that best fit our needs. We ended up replacing our AC, Furnace, Water Heater, whole home humidifier, and had some ducts run in our basement. All of that work was done at a price that seemed reasonable for the quality work and products we were receiving. The crew was punctual, courteous, and cleaned up after themselves. We would use Lenz again and will recommend them to neighbors in need of HVAC work.

Our water heater went out. We called another company who quoted a high price for a replacement. I didn’t know so scheduled an appointment. My husband talked to Al Lenz who quoted a much better price so we moved to Lenz on Friday where they were able to come first thing Monday to replace. On time, super nice, very clean, efficient. Great company. Thank you Glen and Jeff for the good work you did. Our old water heater was leaking so much water they worked to get it out a different door to save my house from being a nippy mess. After asking for referrals from the people on our street, we selected Lenz to do our annual maintenance of the furnace and air conditioner. Our furnace is from about 2009, so a little old. They tuned it up at a very fair price (we did a 2 year service agreement with them at a great deal). We asked about a whole house humidifier and they gave us a great quote. They just did the work for that and everything was real smooth. We have had Jeff and Josiah come at these different visits and both technicians really knew their stuff. They were very polite, clean and showed us everything they did and answered all my questions. I would highly recommend Lenz.

Lenz Heating and Cooling continues to impress. They are organized, timely, knowledgeable and professional. They replaced my AC and furnace at the beginning of the summer. The AC is wonderful and much more energy efficient than my old unit. They follow up with their service to make sure everything is working and that I know how to use it. I am very pleased with Lenz. With our Twins on the way and a 1 and a half year old we couldn’t afford a new furnace unit and ours wasn’t working! We called Lenz for service on Monday after our A/C unit was freezing up on us and didn't have good air flow. They sent Jeff out that afternoon. He arrived in mid afternoon and 3 hours later he had everything working great. It's nice to find an honest company with hard working people who will actual do repairs and not just demand that you replace everything with expensive new systems!

I am so insanely happy I found this company! We had originally called Schall after our A/C stopped cooling and they quoted us $145 just to come out 3 days from now. Luckily I followed up with Lenz and I am so glad I did! Dave came out the same day, was very friendly, and was able to fix the issue within 2 hours. Prices were extra reasonable. I can't say enough good things about Lenz. We have used them for years for heating and AC. They've always been responsive ASAP, knowledgeable, reasonably priced, friendly and honest. Just today Dan came out to check why my AC fan wasn't running. He told me all was well, he only had to reset my blown fuse! Didn't even charge me for the visit. What an AWESOME consideration. We called Lenz on the 4th of July when our AC quit working. Al came to our home early the next morning and quickly found and resolved the issue. Due to the high volume of calls that day (it was over 90 degrees outside) they had to come back to finish the work but our AC was working the entire time. Came out and helped me with a humidifier issue on the furnace and only charged me for the visit and consultation, which is to be expected from any service industry that pays house visits. Associates from LENZ provided very reliable services(twice since install). After good experience with LENZ for my old HVAC, I decided with a replacement from LENZ with their promised services. Top notch company. Used them last fall for 2nd opinion that my system needed complete replacement. Turned out the first company didn't run proper analysis and just was trying to sell me a new 10K+ system. My current HVAC setup, while 16 years old, still was running fine and confirmed safe. Have used Lenz for a AC check and cleaning since that time and plan on using them going forward for maintenance and, when time comes, system replacement.

Allen came and did our ac maintenance appointment and while here he informed us that our HVAC system was old and probably on it’s last leg. He informed us our ac unit would probably fail on the hottest day of summer and he was right!! In late July on a scorching hot Saturday our AC stopped working. I called Lenz and they sent out a technician (Dan) right away! Dan did everything he could to get our AC running again but it just wouldn’t work. He arranged for installers (Curtis and Shane) to come on Monday and install a new HVAC unit for us. After installation of the new system Dan did a follow up visit to make sure everything was working right. I am so thankful for their expertise, kindness and support. I highly recommend them to all my friends and family!

Our furnace broke down on the morning of Christmas Eve. After calling 10 or so companies Lenz was the first to promise they could help us. They came, evaluated the situation, gave us a fair quote, called in extra guys, and installed a new heating system all within a few hours. Soon after their departure and installation the heating system stopped working. We called them back and within an hour they had another technician there to troubleshoot. He found the problem but needed another guy to execute the plan. So Brandon came back to our home and he and Dan worked from 7-9pm (on Christmas Eve) until they had everything figured out and corrected. We woke up to a warm home on Christmas morning thanks to Lenz. 100% recommend you work with this company.

Even before they came out and serviced my home, I would message Al and he replied back quickly. Al and his team were very professional, knowledgeable and responsive. Glen was the crews lead, however Al came on site to check things out as well. They were friendly and very attentive guys, they were very careful putting tarps down while working so they didn't make a mess. What a great experience with Lenz! From the first contact everyone I spoke with was prompt, professional, informative, up-front, and friendly. The owner, Al, came out to give me a quote on replacing my HVAC system and water heater. The all-in pricing is awesome - and within a few days his team was here to do the install. I hardly even knew they were here - they were efficient, explained everything, and cleaned up before they left. I was expecting it to be a giant pain to get everything replaced - and they made it easier than I would have thought possible. Now, I just need to get over there and meet their cute office dog! I sent in a heating repair request on their website on Wednesday night and Thursday morning I received a call about my request with them being able to get me on the schedule that day. I received a call an hour earlier than scheduled stating my service technician(Al) was ahead of schedule and if it was okay to head to my house. What amazing experience! First off Lenz had every right to wait to send someone out until the following weekday. Even though temperature was fluctuating a lot and I was losing a lot of sleep keeping up with it, I was keeping the home warm. They were so easy to work with and when I told them I was getting a few different error messages on my furnace and all the babysitting I was doing to it, they offered to send someone right out on a weekend. From the moment Dan showed up the visit was pleasant. He walked me through what he was doing and was very Covid conscious. He got the furnace fixed and even spent a little extra time cleaning and ensuring everything else was working properly. I thanked him immensely as he was leaving he also explained that they’d take complete care of the warranty claim as well. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t have to do anything to ensure the warranty covered the work. Just an amazing experience all around from the woman I spoke to on the phone to the visit from Dan! I can not recommend this company enough! Five stars from me! You earned a customer for life!

Lenz Heating and Cooling is the best! I have had several AC/Heating issues over the years with different rental homes and personal homes I’ve owned. I’ve used many different heating and AC contractors that eventually got the jobs done. However, I have now discovered that Lenz’s response time, service, professionalism, and affordability is second to none. I had an old furnace go out in a rental property. They arrived within 2 hours of my call. They confirmed right away the heat exchanger was shot. They set my renter up with several electric heaters to use overnight until they could install a new heater the very next day. Very impressed customer service from beginning to end! Thank you Lenz!

This company is wonderful and it starts at the top with the owner. When I called last week to get an appointment set up they got me put on the schedule in just 2 days! The install had some issues along the way that they had to solve for and they dedicated time to do so instead of leaving it half done as well as came back after hours to assist. In August we decided it was time to update our heating and cooling system for our 50 year old home. We contacted Lenz Heating and Cooling. Within a few days Al came to our home and sat at our kitchen counter. We went over what he could do to make our home cool, warm, and increased efficiency. Al presented us with a plan and financing, if needed, to replaced our old system. The plan was what we wanted, and we were placed on their installment schedule. On the installment day the Lenz team arrived at the scheduled time and completed the install, cleaned their work area, and provide us with a lesson on the new programmable thermostat. All were completed by late afternoon - a job well done. We have enjoyed our new efficient quiet system. It has kept our house cool and during these last few days warm. We have been happy with our decision of the programmable thermostat. We have been able to set the temperatures for day hours and evening sleeping hours, plus the ability to regulate the thermostats from our phone. One more thing- Lenz Heating and Cooling also arranged for a company to clean our very dirty ducts. 50 years of dust gone with a BIG vacuum. The Lenz crew of Glen, Droe, Blake, Trent and Gavin installed the following for me today: new furnace, new air conditioner, new water heater, new thermostat, and a new on-furnace humidifier. It was a lot of stuff to install, but they did it in one day. Impressive! They were extremely professional, patient enough to teach me, and very relatable and friendly. But beyond that, they did a fabulous job of installing all the new equipment. In doing so, they rerouted a gas line in the basement and redid some steel duct work that was ancient. The repair work they did by their own choice. It’s silly to say, but when they took me to the basement to show me the new installation, I could swear I heard The Hallelujah Chorus in the background. If it can be said about this kind of work, the new equipment and repairs are just gleaming in the basement. It is pretty awesome. They used booties on their shoes, put down drop cloths everywhere, and were very tidy. Thankfully, they took all of the old stuff away. They taught me how to use the new thermostat, how to manage the humidity and temperature in the house, and how to adjust the water heater. I cannot say enough good things about this crew, but efficient, competent, quick, quiet, knowledgeable, tidy, relatable, and patient with me. While working with the gas line, my gas fireplace went out. When they finished, they went the extra mile and relit the pilot light for the fireplace which is back in working order. I give them 6 out of 5 stars. If they need a reference, just let me know. And, they all liked my 5 month old puppy who desperately wanted to be their apprentice today. Now who does’t like that?

Equipment works fine until you need it. In November, just as weather was getting extremely cold my daughter starts her furnace to get no results on a Friday night. If you have a mobile home and need heating or cooling work, then you need to call Lenz Heating and Cooling. This winter my heater stopped working in my mobile home. Not knowing much about mobile home heaters, I first did some homework. I read everything I could find about gas heaters, including Consumer Reports, customer reviews and ratings of the different brands. I finally decided I wanted to replace it with the same brand I already had because it is rated a 4 out 5, (1 being the worst – 5 the best) Almost every company I called told me they DID NOT work on mobile homes. I could only find three companies that would do the work, one was Lenz Heating and Cooling. One company would not install the brand I wanted, they would only install a brand with the worst rating! One company would not even tell me what brand they would install, they only said “don’t worry about that, we’ll put the best brand for your needs.” I told them “I need the brand I want!” Then I met with Al Lenz, the owner of Lenz Heating and Cooling. He was very informative and gave me a great price on the unit I wanted. He even called me back to thank me for the business after I called to schedule the installation and he stayed in touch with me until the job was complete. The technicians were very professional and did an excellent job. Lenz Heating and Cooling is the best. If you own a mobile home, or any home, do not waste your time calling any other company, call Lenz first!

As a first time home buyer who is in the 2nd year of owning a home, working with HVAC companies left me with a lot of anxiety. I've heard so many horror stories about technicians coming in and gouging customers. When I called and explained my problem over the to Lenz phone the lady offered me some simple, quick, free advice on how to improve my furnace situation and it worked! I knew I needed it cleaned because it has been having a hard time running, and it's just general maintenance. The first people I called were service legends who charged me $100 just to come out and look at it, then tried to sell me on buying crazy expensive services. Lenz came out and cleaned it upon my request, told me the system was in pretty good shape, and charged $25 less. So I only spent $75 and had more work done. Plus Lenz mounted my thermostat on the wall just because he is a good guy. They charge a pretty great rate. Honestly, these guys are going to always be my first choice for heating and cooling solutions. If you're on the fence about who to call, give these guys a chance. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Our air conditioner had been out for a while and we couldn't seem to find anybody who would repair/replace our unit for a price that wasn't super inflated. On top of that they were booked for weeks in advance and couldn't even think about squeezing us into their busy schedule. Lenz right away was the lowest price, they had rebates available and there was no extra costs or fees after the job was done. They said they could do a little extra work one day of the week and get in to see us right away. The Lenz installation team was stellar... They were quiet, respectful, easy to talk to, and they even wore booties on their feet to protect the floor. They ran into a few problems (which is reasonable because every house is different) and after a few calls they got the problem figured out and were out of our hair within hours of showing up. On time I might add. Everything was sealed up and they even wiped everything down after. I think this is all due to the fact that the company is family operated, and producing the highest quality work to make the family proud is the ultimate goal. There's really no reason to go to anyone else. This is a loyal American business that I will recommend for years to come.

My furnace started acting up at the worst time! I think the temperature outside was a “feels like” temp of below zero. A good friend told me to call Lenz, so I called early to see if it was at all possible to get someone over to check on it. I figured there was no way, and that I would have to spend all day calling around. Jenny was super nice and helpful, and within a minute of calling I was penciled in with a wait time of only 3 hrs. Al was my technician. Not only was he early, he was fast, efficient, respectful of being in my home (he wore a mask and booties over his shoes) he even jumped the fence into my back yard (because the gate had waist high piles of plowed snow in front of it) and trudged through the snow to clean an old wasps nest out of the outside furnace vent. To say he went above and beyond on that one would be an understatement. Al and his team have always performed with highest level of integrity in the business. Hottest day of 2022 so far and Central air not working properly. Called and sent Dan to us around 4:30pm. Dan worked all afternoon and into the evening to get air up and running and extremely professional and cordial the entire time. Not sure I could say the same for me in that situation and heat. Al stayed in communication throughout night due to scheduled events we could not change. When we arrived home around 8:30, Al and Dan were both working on unit and wrapped up around 9:30. Al came out same day I called and recharged my air conditioner. Everything worked out well but he did mention that my air conditioner may be on borrowed time because of its age. Fast forward to a week ago. On a very hot summer day that was extremely busy for my family, the blower on our furnace stopped working. Having this not work meant that we couldn't keep our house at a comfortable temperature. I called around to a few H & AC places and none of them could come out soon enough. I called Lenz and sure enough Al came out same day. Unfortunately, the news was bad, the furnace and the air conditioner both had failed. Not only were the reviews glowing, but I noticed Al Lenz, the owner, responded to nearly all reviews. Although there aren't many bad reviews, Al's responses to them are never defensive. He owns up to and deals with them head on. I made the call to have a quote done for our work. Al arrived promptly in one of the company's immaculately kept trucks. This was another thing I noticed. Attention to the small details, like keeping the fleet clean. The quote process was thorough and efficient. After a bit of review of the quote and a discussion with my wife, we pulled the trigger and went with Lenz. Although I can't say the normal timeframe is this speedy, but our installation was scheduled for less than a week after we gave the go ahead. On the day of the installation, the crew of five was onsite at 8AM as promised, and out the door shortly after 2PM. The installation included a new high efficiency Amana furnace/AC with Ecobee thermostat. The work is impeccably neat and well done. Post install, they left the space cleaner than when they came. Finally, we had a quick follow up from the office within a couple days and then a thank you card another day or two after that. It's the small things that make a difference, and Lenz makes sure they follow through. Highly recommended.

Our air conditioner went out and I found Lenz Heating and Cooling on google. They had great reviews so I called. All I can say is, there’s a reason they have great reviews. Right from the get go, Theresa in their office was extremely helpful, got someone out same day and even called to give me a heads up when on their way. Then Al, the owner of the company shows up. Super super nice guy. Turns out we didn’t do regular maintenance on our unit (oops) so it shuts itself off because it’s so so dirty. He spends a lot of time cleaning it out (it was bad) , turns it on and we are good to go. So instead of him charging me their hourly rate for service because that is what I called for, Al is kind enough to just charge me his annual maintenance rate. That right there shows me this company is honest and not just out to milk ya for everything they can like some companies. I called these folks asking for a SECOND OPINION on a furnace repair recommended by a different company. No service fee? Wow! I hopped right on it. A very expensive replacement part HAD BEEN RECOMMENDED to me on my less than 10 year old furnace. Seemed appropriate to get another set of eyes on the "problem" since I had no "symptoms" suggesting that one existed. After arriving punctually and greeting me cordially, the tech inspected my furnace. His evaluation was that my equipment was performing efficiently +, was clean and showed no signs of any problems! The part that had been recommended for a "COMPLETE (expensive!) replacement" has, he said, a small component which can be cheaply replaced if needed... rather than the entire component. BUT, he said, I wouldn't spend a penny on the furnace! It's working very well. ALL THIS was done for free! It's a no-brainer to share this experience with anyone out there who is interested in honest, reliable and fairly priced service. I couldn't rate highly enough to reflect the peace of mind and level of confidence I experienced. Lenz is now my go-to provider. You should check them out... they definitely deliver what they advertise!

I've had them come out for a few small things here and there and they have always been professional and the price has been decent. I recently came home from work to a strong gas smell, called up mid American and they told me I had a bad carbon monoxide leak (probably from the heat exchanger in the furnace. As a side note, everyone should have a carbon monoxide detector, we moved in recently and "hadn't gotten around to it yet", if you don't have one, go get one right now). Anyway, we called up a few companies and got quotes. Lenz was the best deal by a long shot, their price was lower than the other companies, and they were putting in a 2 stage furnace (same BTU's), and we got a much better warranty (10 years on labor instead of 1). My theory is that they are a smaller company that isn't spending a bunch of money on advertising and office staff (sales men and such), and so they can pass on better prices to us. Scott gave us the quote and he was very friendly and knowledgable. The other companies sent out 'sales men' that made us sit through their little presentation/sales pitch. Scott was an actual technician and he listened to our needs and suggested the best equipment for us. They were able to schedule our install within two days, the other companies were going to make us wait almost two weeks. Zach and Brighton were our installers. They were friendly and courteous. They always wore shoe protectors inside the house and even put down plastic to protect our carpets. They worked hard and knew their stuff. They took time to talk to me about what they were doing and how it was going every time I went down to check it out. Our only "complaint" was that they installed the AC with the back of the unit facing the front of the house instead of toward the house, so all the connections and warning labels and such are visible from the street, but it's just a cosmetic thing and it's probably just the nit-picky Architect in me, doesn't have any effect on the function of the unit. All-in-all we were very happy with the service and would defiantly use Lenz again (hopefully not for 20 years or so though ;-).

I've lived in Des Moines about 10 years and have used about 10 different heating and cooling companies over the years - I have never found a company I completely trust - until now. My air conditioner wasn't cooling well, so I called a local company - one of the ones that is always advertising on tv. The person they sent out didn't seem to know what he was doing, he was reading a manual and making phone calls so I didn't really trust his diagnosis. I saw that Lenz had a Valpak coupon for a free second opinion, so I called them and Scott came out. He obviously knew what he was doing and did a thorough inspection. He gave me the option to repair the unit (for a much cheaper price than the first company) or I could replace the unit (also for a much cheaper price than the first company). Since my air conditioner was 17 years old I opted to replace it. I got an excellent deal on a new air conditioner, and Lenz installed it a few days later. (Scott put some Freon in before he left so that the house would be cool until the installation - for FREE. The other company was going to charge me $200!) Then when Lenz came out for the install, they installed it within 5 hours! The other company had said it would take 2 days to install. I have to also say that both times Lenz came to my house (for the second opinion and then the install), they arrived when they said they would. There was no 5 hour time frame like you usually get when you schedule an a/c appointment. They said they would be here at 8 am, and they showed up at 8 am. Great experience all the way around, I won't go anywhere else from now on. Very satisfied.

I had seen the HUGE ad on the front of the Madison County Shopper and asked a friend who they might recommend for servicing my furnace. Our furnace would turn on but wouldn't always light or would only light a little. I called Lenz Heating and Cooling like my friend recommended and they were willing to come out the next day (12/31/2014) and take a look. Mr. Al Lenz was on time, took a look around in the furnace and asked us some questions about what we felt was the problem. He noticed right off that we had a much bigger problem. Our furnace had a large crack in the heat exchanger and wasn't safe to run. He asked us if anyone in the house had flu or cold like symptoms (which some of us had been experiencing...as well as headaches). He was very concerned and strongly suggested that we get a new furnace because the old one just wasn't safe. It wasn't a planned purchase after Christmas, but we were very thankful that he could work something out with us. By the time we returned home that night, Lenz had replaced our old furnace with a new one. It looks so much better, it sounds a lot quieter and for the first time in over a month, I am not feeling tired or have a headache. I don't know where we would be without this outstanding company. Service tech, Dan, was here by 10:30am and had our heat back up and working by 11am. Thankful for their help, especially on the weekend! We will be looking into their membership program, that he told me about, to keep our furnace/AC regularly maintained and service assistance readily available if needed again in the future.

After 3 warm weeks in Europe, I was very unhappy to discover that my central air was not blowing cold air upon my arrival back home. I knew right away that I was out of freon and knew that is not a good sign. I found a coupon in the Val-Pak to get a technician from Lenz to my come to house, I called the number and spoke to Al who I later discovered was also the owner of the business, he is also a former Marine. Scott came to my house a few days later for my appointment and he arrived an hour early. As he started checking out my unit, he informed me that I was almost out of freon and we agreed to put in 3 pounds of the stuff just so I can have some relief from the heat. We knew I had a leak somewhere in my system and no idea how long the freon would take to completely leak out before I would need to fill it again. I knew that my 18 year old furnace and central air was getting old and it was just a matter of time before I would have to replace it. Neither were energy efficient and after a discussion with Scott and doing my own research, I decided it was time to replace both. The rebates offered by MidAmerican energy also made it very attractive. Lenz scheduled me for the following week and as usual they showed up early. These guys have a tendency to show up early but never late the entire time I worked with them. They made quick work of dismantling my old systems and Al estimated it would take around 8 hours to complete the job. I believe they would’ve been done much sooner if they didn’t run into a snafu with my plumbing. The plumbing took them an extra couple of hours to correct before they could continue installing the rest of my new system. This was very frustrating for the Lenz installers but they were troopers and got the parts needed to correct the problem. By 5pm that afternoon my system was in place and working. What impressed me the most is their commitment to client satisfaction. Two days after the installation was completed, I found another plumbing leak around my water softener which I attributed to the plumbing repairs that were done earlier - it was located near my furnace. I contacted Scott and informed him of the problem, he asked for photos so he could get a visual and 3 days later he showed up at my house early again to take care of the problem. I also appreciated that he was prepared on that day to go ahead and do the tests necessary so that my rebate paperwork could be submitted to MidAmerican energy. This is something that Lenz does for you as an additional service when they replace your unit at no extra charge. According to Lenz – you’ll just receive your rebate check in the mail. Overall, I am happy and satisfied with their service. Scott and Zakk (Al’s son) were great to work with and answered all of my questions and concerns. I also like that their shop is small and that I could potentially build a service relationship with their techs for future furnace and AC home checks, same way that I have a good relationship with my auto mechanic. I appreciate that Scott gave me the appropriate information I needed to make a good decision for me and that I never felt pressured into buying anything.

It's like calling a friend when I call Al twice a year to schedule my furnace and a/c checks. My air conditioner stopped working. I called LENZ Heating & Cooling at about 10 in the morning. The receptionist answered and took my information, then said she would call her techs to see where they were at on their jobs and see if she could get someone out to see me that same afternoon. After a short while, the receptionist called me back and said they had a tech finishing a job and then they would be heading my way. About 15 minutes later I received a call from the tech saying he was on his way. The tech that showed up was the owner of the company. He was very polite and asked me what was going on. I explained to him the situation and he went to the unit to see what was going on. He found a very dirty unit and proceeded to clean it up. He then flipped a switch that had turned off due to the unit over heating because of the unit being so dirty. We talked about the unit and I asked him what I owed him figuring it would be at least $100-$150. He told me it was no charge, just put a good word in for them. LENZ Heating & Cooling could have easily charged me for the call out and the labor to clean and get my air conditioner working but chose to earn a future customer instead. I had 2 other repair services over to look at our A/C unit. The service that was performed on both visits didn't fix the problem. Scott stopped by Saturday to give us a quote on a new system. He went out of his way to see if he could save us money by looking at a few things (This wasn't even scheduled but he went out of his way to help us out). He was the 1st to remove the panel to take a look at the coils. They had not been cleaned and were very dirty. He cleaned the coils, checked the refrigerant and said to try this over the weekend. I just want everyone know, that reads this, that Lenz is quite a few steps above any of the other companies contacted. I will make sure to give them a call when service is needed. I will have to purchase a new system as it still isn't cooling and Lenz will be the company of choice on my new system.

I would highly recommend Lenz. Found them in the ValuPak last fall and they were offering an excellent special on an Amana furnace/AC combo. Al Lenz, the owner, came out to our home and went over all of the details and options. He made us feel comfortable and reassured us we would definitely be satisfied and save a lot of $$ on our heating and AC bills. Although our existing system was still working, it was about 18 years old and we didn't want to risk having it go down this winter. It was also the original system and only about 70% efficient. The new Amana we had them install is 97% so looking forward to saving some green in the years ahead. We also received rebates from MidAmerican of $2500. The Lenz team did an outstanding job installing the equipment and we are enjoying the comfort of our new furnace during this extremely cold stretch of Iowa weather. Thanks Lenz!!

I have had intermittent issues with my furnace for a couple of years. The furnace is now 10 years old. It would randomly run for short periods of time and then stop. Previously, and unfortunately, I called another HVAC company from Des Moines. That technician was not able to find nor fix anything, yet I was charged a ridiculously high service fee. That guy also tried to sell me a new furnace. It was near the end of the heating season so I did not buy a new one. Fast forward to 2/2016 and the furnace again started having intermittent had issues. This time, after doing more research, reading reviews and taking a recommendation from a respectable local plumbing company, I called Lenz Heating and Cooling and spoke with Al Lenz. His customer service skills were great. He promptly set up an appointment and arrived as scheduled. After a thorough investigation he actually found 2 issues that caused the furnace to periodically stop or not run at 100%. Most likely, the same 2 issues that some other company could not diagnose. So, instead of buying a new furnace for several thousand dollars, he was able to fix my furnace for $100. It has now worked great for a month. He also told me exactly what was wrong and how he fixed it. Probably one of the most impressive things he did was waiting on site so he could actually witness the furnace stop so he could correctly diagnose and then once he fixed the problem, again waited to make sure it was working properly. His customer service skills and professional technical skills were superb. He has definitely gained my trust and I will be calling him to service my air conditioner via an annual inspection soon and eventually, some day in the future, a new furnace. Just after the first of the year when it was one of the coldest weekends, our furnace decided to stop working. We called another company to come and fix our furnace. They told us that our furnace heat exchange was broken and we needed a new unit right away. We decided to call Lenz for a second opinion. I'm so glad we did, not only was Lenz able to come and fix our unit the next day but they also found the problem wasn't in our heat exchange but a clogged tube. Thanks to Lenz they saved us thousands of dollars and gave us piece of mind. Another heating/cooling company came out for a 'tune-up' after my main blower was making all kinds or racket when it started up. They told me my main blower and inducer motor were both going bad and the bearings would soon give out. They also said I was using the wrong filter (one which I started due to their suggestion at a previous repair) and that could be hurting the motors. They wanted $1400 to fix. Luckily I was also given the option to buy a brand new furnace for a mere 7,000 - 10,000. Good grief. So I called Lenz (spoke to Al) and asked if he would give me a second opinion. He came out (no trip charge!!), looked it over (agreed with their diagnosis of the issue) and then gave me a price of $900. He also then told me he'd give me a discount due to my place of employment (he happened to see my badge on my counter). He could have kept quite and taken more money but he didn't. Excellent! He came back a few days later and had it all swapped out in less than an hour. He also told me the correct filters to use to ensure I don't damage the motors going forward. I appreciated Al's prompt replies to text and phone and his overall customer service. He was a pleasure to work with, a pleasure to talk to, and seemed much more down to earth. I was convinced he wanted to fix my issue; not sell me a furnace I did not need. Side note: had to fix a small pvc leak to the furnace. I said I'd do it myself. He insisted I call him when I'm done so he didn't worry. He then offered to stop back by on his way home if I needed him to. That's above and beyond in my book. Thanks, Al!

I have owned a home for 3 years, and the furnace/AC was old, and not efficient. I had been looking at prices to replace the whole system for a while. I had a different company come out and give me an estimate. Then I got the ValPak coupons and saw one from Lenz for a free second opinion, so I gave them a call. Al (owner) came and gave me an estimate. My husband is a retired veteran, and we received a military discount for his service. I got the price estimate- it was $1000 less than the other company’s estimate! I was like “SOLD!” wrote the check, and scheduled the install for Wednesday (we met on Monday, so it was in two days, really quick). I was told they would be at my house at 8:00 am and be done by 2:00 pm. They left at 1:30 pm, so almost exactly right. The installers wore covers on their shoes, they were friendly and professional. I have had issues in the past with people doing work on my house having inappropriate conversations and using foul language when they thought I couldn’t hear them. Like more than once. It’s not like I eavesdrop, but my house isn’t that big, and voices carry. In their six hours here, nothing stuck out or caught my attention while I was reading my book. So, yay, I would give you six stars just for that. After they left, my husband noticed a “problem,” that really wasn’t a problem, I didn’t notice it at the time. I sent an email to Al about it, they sent someone over pretty quick to seal pipes that were actually already sealed (oops). They were really nice about it, even though it was kind of a waste of time to come over here (sorry). As you can tell, I had an excellent experience with Lenz, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing any HVAC stuff done. Thanks, everyone.

Remember that song "Happy" that was out a few years ago? Well, that's how I am feeling about my experience today. At 0830 this morning I scheduled a Second Opinion appointment (but the owner actually came 30 minutes later when they found out I had no a.c. all weekend) and by 1715 this evening the technicians had cleaned all areas related to the replacement of the new unit and were on their ways home. I (feel that I) received a great deal on the unit but the service, relatability and cleanliness were astounding and outstanding overall. I can be a 'challenge' to deal with regarding workers in my home but I must say that at no point today did I have an urge to punch someone in the throat! Going from needing a second look all of the way through installation in the same day is not a common scenario with the amount of calls each company is probably getting with the recent hot weather. I feel fortunate that it all came together today...for whatever reason or purpose...and I feel fortunate that it was this (new to me) company. Take 30 seconds to observe and you will also see technicians that work great as a team to get the job done correctly and aren't standing around finger banging their phones all day when the customer isn't looking. Al and the crew at Lenz are absolutely incredible. I had our new unit installed in July and wanted to wait some time to see how it performed before I left my review. Al came to my house and gave me a quote within minutes of being there. He knew that price was most important to me and he didn’t spend time beating around the bush. He came in lower than any of the other quotes I got (and with a higher quality unit I might add). Since we were reaching hotter temps, my appt date was 2 weeks out. During this time they continued to check up on me and see how my unit was doing (26 years old and working off and on). This meant a lot to me. It showed me they truly cared about my wellbeing. Installation day came and wouldn’t you know it it was the hottest day of the year yet! We reached 85 degrees in the house that day and I was so thankful to have them there that morning! Unfortunately after they left I realized the house wasn’t cooling and was getting warmer. I called the office and they assured me the guys would be back out when they finished the job they were on. There was an issue with the line (can’t think of what it was), but this is something they wouldn’t have caught initially. Before they left they tested everything and it WAS working, but at some point after they left it froze up. They showed up and a couple hours later had us on our way to cooltown! It was so blistering hot that day and I am so thankful they came back and got us going. I could tell they were miserable, but not a single complaint left their mouth. They kept saying how bad they felt for the issue, but I knew it was not their fault at all!! If you want affordable and most importantly TRUSTWORTHY, then it is a no brainer to go with Lenz! You will not regret it!
