I really enjoyed my stay in the ICU because of 2 nurses that made my stay enjoyable. Annabelle and Mary Grace. I hated to leave them and go to a different room. Kaitlyn and kileigh that took care of me in room 8213 were the best! You made it wonderful there for me. I really love all of y'all ! Take care of yourselves. It was wonderful having you all as my nurses. 🌻

My husband spent 11 days in NICU and another 46 days on the cancer floor. From the doctors and nurses to those that cleaned the floor - they were all kind and professional. We felt cared for by capable people. It seems strange to include it, but the hospital was clean. We've visited family in hospitals that were just filthy. They saved my husband's life, and that alone makes me love them, but they were so good to us - there are just not enough positive words to say about them. We are grateful.

First of all, I want to say that EVERYBODY was more than nice while I was in UAB HOSPITAL: all nurses, respiratory therapists, housekeeping workers, dietary workers, physical therapists, and all others. I don't mean to leave out anyone. Special nurses that I want to recognize are: Courtney, Deanna, Miranda, Leah, Georgie, Kristen, and all others whose names I can't recall but whom I have certainly not forgotten. I appreciate all of you and your patience with me. All of you made my hospital stay so much better, and I truly loved having you all taking care of me! I believe that UAB HOSPITAL is a great hospital, and I would recommend it to everybody I know who needs a fine hospital. However, I could have used another week or two of pain medication after leaving the hospital. In the hospital, they were great about keeping your pain controlled, but at home was a different game. My husband was in the NICU after surgery on his brain and he had 2 very special nurses Katelyn and Annabelle and they were great they really showed such care and compassion for their patients ! These girls are great and I hope the staff at UAB let them know how much they are appreciated ! Great job girls y’all are the best !

I’m not gonna lie, it honestly depends on what floor you’re on. The ladies in the MICU have been the most attentive and hard-working. In spite of bad experiences in other subsidies of UAB they have taken care of my mother. They worked around the clock sitting at my mother side. When I find out their names, I’m going to update and let it be known.

Dr. Davies is an extremely gifted surgeon and a good soul. If more people dedicated thier lives to bring such good into this world it would be a better place. The cardio team that assist him and the recovery of his patients are second to none. I thank God for the gifts he blessed this man and his team and staff with.

The Doctors and nurses here at UAB have made the experience here x10 better. My brother came in for a gun shot wound to the head. He flew in on LifeFlight. They put him into Trauma. We did get pushed off a day or two from when we were getting surgery scheduled for. However, they work on their own time, and it all depends who comes in next. Everyone here has done a fantastic job, and I couldn’t be any happier at any other hospital.

Not even 12 hours here and the most attentive care I have ever seen. My son was transferred over from a hospital that has been extremely neglectful so this is an amazing change in pace. They are knowledgeable, confident and responsive. I see other reviews mention rude security but they all seem nice from the few interactions I have had. One was even helpful enough to give me detailed directions to the public parking garage. I’m so grateful that my son was transferred here and that they already have an amazing game plan to fix him up. UAB is the place to be!

I had some great Nurses and PCTs. Though all my nurses and PCTs were good, Nurse Patti really put the icing on the cake. She made me feel very welcomed. She was really nice to me and seemed to really care about my well being. Nurse Anthony was really great too. Nurse Jeff was really nice as well. Nurse Practitioner Katy was really sweet. PCT Jessica is such an sweetheart. I had some really nice doctors as well. As far as room service... It could be better. My orders were wrong 90% of my stay. Thank you to all the healthcare professionals who came in and spoke to me and kelp me updated on everything. You guys rock! Thanks to the anistigious doctors for doing everything well. Thanks for the pre-op team. Thanks for everyone who had taken car of me.

My wife had a heart attack and was treated at UAB emergency and transferred into the UAB cardio care unit on the 6th floor . This is the finest people in every job position we encountered on our time of medical emergency !! Starting with the person who explained my wife has been sent in to get a stint in the heart cath dept, and would be out in one hour. Sure enough one hour later she was out , room was ready in ICU , the heart cath doctor called and explained the procedure making me at ease . The nurses were amazing , so sweet and accommodating. The food was wonderful . Rooms are spacious and neat and sparkling clean..The cardiologists were all so professional and helpful !!. I just can’t explain how the overall experience was just totally awesome ! In my scariest moment in my life !, i found myself surrounded by Angels , the entire staff of UAB hospital on the 6th floor ICU unit ! The finest !!

I travelled through here as a Travel Nurse. I was washed with so much kindness and warmth from the staff here. This is a large beautiful hospital and well equipped. We are in NICU. We been here since Thursday, my husband had a stroke and it cause a brain bleed! But the past three days and nights have been short of amazing! The day Nurse Brett literally has been a angel sent from heaven! And the night nurse Lillian has the sweetest soul! I just wanna thank those two for loving us like we were family!

It has taken me a while bc I work in healthcare and with Covid I do understand the restrictions. Last April my family was called in to say our good by to my uncle my godfather.The doctor told my aunt to let everyone know that they need to come on. I left work. He was not Covid. So me, my mom, sisters, and my son get there, my aunts and cousins are already there. We get to the entrance and the lady said only 1 can go we let my sister go, so a little while passes and they call and tell my other sister to bring my mom up the go up. So a little later they call me and tell me to come on up I get to the desk and the lady at the desk told me I couldn’t go up. I explain to her that the doctor told my family to send me up, she said the nurse has not called me. I tell her my uncle is passing and all my family is in a waiting room up there and waiting on me. She said I have called and she is not at the desk and u can’t go up. I am crying at this point I call my cousin she comes down and talks to the lady she still is not letting me up after almost 3 mins I get to go up. After that nobody else had trouble going up was it bc I was in srubs. The nurse was very nice and the doctors the lady at the entrance is the only one I had the problem with. She was rude. Like I said I understand Covid but when family has been called in you let them in.

I have been completely satisfied with this facility and staff. Everyone is kind and helpful. That is so important when a patient like me is afraid of what is to come in their health situation. When I called to correct an error I made in my address, the office lady was wonderful. And, I love my doctor.

I want to thank every nurse and doctor in the cardiac and cardiac ICU that took care of my dad. You all saved his life. Not only that, but his entire stay and operation was free because of some program you all have due to him being high risk. He was sent home with ALL his meds, and they all have two refills each on them. That is a blessing considering I couldn't get him a doctor's appt in our home town until April 1st. Every nurse and doctor my sister, myself, and dad had contact with was very sweet. Every time we'd go visit my dad he'd tell us that y'all were taking good care of him. ❤️

Could never brag enough about staff, nurses, respiratory, Residents, Doctors and RESOURCES! I am a nurse that has worked Critical Care and Emergent care in an Acute Care Facility hours away. My father had a massive Subarachnoid hemorrhage after an aneurysm burst. He was evaluated at our home facility and flew to UAB for emergent care. He spent 21+ days in NICU, days in step down, and then went to Spain Rehab. After a craniotomy, multiple multiple coiling done by the best Physician ever, Dr. Lee, my father has NO deficits and is going great! The good Lord knew this was the facility he needed to go to. I cannot say how thankful we are for UAB and their staff. The extensive critical care treatment my Dad received is phenomenal, and truly a blessing.

My husband had an aneurysm in his stomach that was leaking so they rushed him from Mississippi to here. The vascular team were AWESOME! Dr. Pearce and his staff were outstanding. They genuinely cared about my husband's overall health. They got the kidney people involved which we are grateful for. Our nurses in SICU were Rock stars! They kept us informed ,had great bedside manners, very compassionate and professional. I want to Thank Dillon, Shay, Jordan, Will and Thomas for doing such a great job at taking care of my husband. We will be forever grateful to everyone Involved in his recovery and care.

We found out my father-in-law was at UAB on Thursday evening and drove straight 15 hours from Virginia to UAB Birmingham. It's a large place and once we arrived tired n worried we were lost. We stopped to ask a lady, Maria, that works in the lab for directions. She immediately helped, us she called the unit (it was in the Womens and Infant -he had leukemia we would have never looked there) for us and walked us physically there. We would've never found it on our own. We are so thankful to Maria, my father in laws nurse Julia and all the Drs at UAB for the heroic efforts they made trying to save my father in law. They kept us informed calling us at our hotel when we weren't there to inform us on his status. If you could only imagine our grief and confusion so it really made a hard situation so much better to receive this kind of care. I just want to thank them.

This hospital is absolutely and treats patients very well especially in labor and delivery. There was a women I know that has health problems and was pregnant and was horribly treated badly at grandview hospital because she has a service dog. This hospital has no issues with service animals, no questions asked. You guys treated her very well.

My brother who is homeless, had collapsed and a local small hospital treated but did not identify where his infection was coming from which resulted in a stroke, and major heart issues. He was a extremely difficult patient and he received heart surgery and care with no insurance or ability to pay at UAB. Several teeth were pull and his infection rate started to come down.. they saved his life. I'm EXTREMLY grateful to the hospital for there excellent care.

I do not know where to start really. I was transported from Florence Alabama via ambulance in very bad shape. From the moment I arrived I felt I was in the best possible care available to me and that was indeed the case. The nurses and staff are above and beyond incredible. Every employee regardless of their position were polite and respectful, and you will not find that in too many hospitals. UAB hospital is the best care I have received and I am very thankful to the staff and doctors. I am traveling 250 miles round trip for follow up's and recommend to anyone in the Shoals area to do the same if they can!

I had to have my appendix out unexpectedly. I ended up being transported to UAB by ambulance. I can't say enough about the nurses and doctors that took care of us. They were absolutely fantastic. I went in Wednesday, had surgery that night and was home Thursday afternoon. Before surgery, the doctor actually came and got me from my room to wheel me to the operating room. Keep up the good work!

To have been admitted as an ER patient, it could have been awful....it was not . Every one was so kind and informative and keep up as up to date as possible....the food services weren't so great, but I was on a restricted diet so what they had to work with was not bad. At this point, I have now been waiting for almost two hours to be discharged....so needless to say...not a happy camper.....I have been waiting for everyone to get organized and let me out of here since 9am...it is 235pm now.....waiting "15-45 minutes" over an (extra) hour ago....2 hour wait to get a wheelchair...so far.....this is beyond ridiculous!!!!

My husband is currently here for cancer treatment. The nurses are very kind and skilled. The doctors are the best but lack in bedside manner. Yes the er is always busy I wont be like Robin Hines was in her review below bc that was just rude af. But if you come expect to wait. The main reason I'm rating it 3 instead of 5 is bc as a guest here I was told that I'm the only guest my husband can have. Ok got it. Then I'm told when I get here that I cant leave his room. If I do I have to wait 24 hours before I can return. It sucks bc I had stuff I needed to take care of but I'm being made to chose between seeing him or taking care of the rest of our life. I know its covid so I could see only getting to walk out once a day or something but come on. And my second reason is what I said above. Doctors got terrible tbedside manner some of the doctors have

My daughter had a surgery that went wrong in Florida. After 3 months of touch and go, and a very long story, she was accepted in to UAB and taken by ambulance to be admitted into Surgical ICU. At admittance to UAB she was in critical condition and complications arose from her condition that could have had serious consequences. The surgical team, all the specialists, and nurses were amazing and met every challenge that presented including clots in her lungs, fistulas, infections, and pneumonia. I am thankful for the fast and efficient care she was given by all the staff who cared for her and most especially thankful to Dr, Reddy and Dr Wahl. She now has a great foothold on a second chance at life. I highly recommend this hospital who save lives and uphold high medical standards. Thank you

I am a cross country truck driver and this is the best hospital we have ever seen. just wanted to thank all of the hospital staff and pastors for doing everything you do to make sure my wife is ok and regains her health. Not a problem physically I just wish they would send me home when there is no legitimate reason for me to be here now. I only had to stay the night if I had surgery which Im grateful I didnt need. Now they won't tell me nothing. I live 3 hrs away and didn't ask to come here I have animals to feed and need to go home but they have said nothing and what they don't realize is I will leave if they don't tell me something. And it'll be on them because I've been waiting for an answer for 12 hours now. And I just want an answer.

I was admited last summer for 47 days in a row. I have a host of life threatening issues. I had to undergo 4 major surgeries.My care from start to finish was filled with mercy, grace and piece. I felt like I was im the midst of extended family!! My family could not come daily but I was embraced by those who truly care. God used the folks who cared for me as his instruments of his grace. I support and absolutely would trust my life to my team!!

I want to give you a review that is positive! I want to tell you that if you ever have a wreck, take a fall, get burned, or suffer a trauma, UAB is the place to go. For two weeks now, we have seen the most wonderful team of physicians and nurses in the TBICU care for our mom. 22 years ago, Tracy and I had to be here as we lost our Ethan when he was 5 months in the womb, still born. The care and excellence that was provided to us then was second to none, and our experience with UAB these past two weeks has been just as excellent and caring. So!!! This is my 5 star rating for UAB Hospital and my shout out to the excellence of medical attention we have received. Thankful for privatized medicine in a free market economy. This level of care may very well not be available by the time I am the age my mom is now. Five Stars to UAB 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I had my second baby here. Planned Cesarean Section. From start to finish, it could not have gone more smoothly. Loved the patient rooms- spacious and large and brand new. The food was actually really good too! My husband and I are both in healthcare and we have high standards. UAB hospital and staff met them and exceeded them! Always stay the full 5 days after a c-section. You will be glad you did and insurance covers it!

Had major cancer surgery at UAB on St. Patrick's Day, 2014. Surgeon was J. Michael Straughn. BEST. DOCTOR. EVER. No complaints about the hospital either. Admission was a breeze; within 30 minutes, I had gone from admission to the surgical area to be prepped for the operation. The care I received after surgery was exceptional; the nurses were awesome! The food was delicious, and I loved the fact that I could order my meals when I wanted them. Before I was released from the hospital to come home, the nurses made sure I knew how to take care of myself until my check-up with Dr. Straughn the following week (I had tubes in me still). I still see Dr. Straughn every 4 months, and continue to be impressed by the wonderful care and should my cancer ever return, I would not hesitate to use UAB again.

UAB Doctors saved my son's leg. Due to a football injury my son almost lost his leg however thanks to GREAT doctors and nurses they were able to save his leg. We were first seen at Children's Hospital on 10/31/2015 and then later transferred to UAB trauma and then surgery. Cannot say how much we appreciated all of their care and concern. His Vascular Surgeon is Dr Mathews and his Orthopedic MD is Dr Estes. They are both great. Worked well with one another to corrdinate his treatment plan. We stayed one week at UAB and then then a 1 day surgery/overnight at Children's. No compliants. Nursing and support staff were great. Pam

Hey, they do a lot of good for a lot of people. I can't complian . I did just spend 14 hours in the waiting room, saw the doctor less than five minutes after a car wreak. There are a lot of people that clog up this emergency room. Instead of going to a family doctor, this is one of the few hospital s left that will see you even if you can't pay. I think that is great, I feel like there are a lot of people that take advantage of this and can really clog it up for those in really bad shape. This location has a trama unit that is top notch. Thank you for taking care of us. If you are needing quick care, a family doctor will be a lot quicker and cheaper, but if parts is falling off, uab can put em back on.

I mostly come here for my dad. The Heart and Lung Intensive Care Unit is amazing. All of the doctors and nurses are genuinely caring and kind. No matter what's going on with him, the coordinators, doctors, nurses, and staff have been world class!

I have had many experiences with UAB. My uncle had surgery and a new esophagus made on Christmas eve. My last was my infant son had to be cardioverted or his heart shocked at 8 days old and again at 18 days old . Dr Mike McConnell was great and the staff was amazing and so nice to me and my family. This was 27 nearly 28 years ago, I still feel the same.

UAB hospital has saved my life an uncountable number of times. St. Vincent hospital almost killed. But with God directing these Dr.'s hands I am still alive to tell my story. From 2005 til present I have been well taken care of and I would recommend them to everyone. I continue to be a constant patient of there's. This hospital is excellent. I stayed here on the seizure monitoring floor and the nurses and staff were excellent. I saw Dr. VerHoef and Dr. Litton. Both were excellent. Very short wait time to be admitted. The food is actually pretty good too. Overall, a great hospital. If I had to stay in a hospital again, I would pick UAB if I could.

My friend was rushed there by ambulance. They had teams of doctors helping him to get better. He didn't have insurance but that didn't stop UAB from running the tests needed to determine what was wrong, they help him get on a recovery path. The whole staff were professional and helpful.

Thank you all staff at UAB! My husband was on a ventilator in MICU. He was given Remdesivir, had to be turned over in the prawn position several times! He was there for almost 3 weeks and survived. Thank God and UAB. I received phone calls from Douglass Stephens, John Stringer, Dr. Lockhart, Scott, Meagan, Dustin, Savanna, Camille and Kristina and others that I did not write down. Great medical service and expert knowledge and bedside manner. Parking can be a pain it's a very crowded area so that can be expected. It is well worth it did the expert care and security you get from knowing you are in one the nation's top hospitals. UAB hospital will give any patient the ultimate peace of mind when in a time of medical need.

Dr. Davies is the Division Director in Cardiothoracic Surgery and is a brilliant surgeon. We were told that my father's heart attack created a difficult situation with his heart and makes the bypass surgery he needs to survive a very difficult and unique procedure. So much so, that the 2 cardiothoracic surgeons in our area believed the surgery is far too complicated. My family and I did not know how to respond. The Dr. had said he was calling Dr. Davies from UAB, that he was a brilliant surgeon and if anyone could preform such a complicated surgery it would be him. Dr. Davies agreed to take my dad and he was flown to UAB (we are 5 hours away). Dr. Davies told us he was going to do the surgery, and that he believes the surgery should go smoothly. My dad is alive because Dr. Davies is a brilliant, and gifted surgeon and everything he did was impressive. He hands down is one of the best cardiothoracic surgeons in the country. I will not ever hesitate in the future as to where to go and who to go to for any and all heart complications. Dr. Davies, thank you for allowing us more time with my dad! Thank you for being a gifted surgeon! ☺️☺️

We had a great experience during our stay in the NICU with our daughter. The NICU staff go above and beyond to serve their patients and families. The rooms are nice for NICU rooms, and the amenities provided for families by the Ronald McDonald Foundation one floor below (showers, meals, sleep rooms, activities, etc.) are definitely worth taking advantage of!

Nasal surgery here. Not one complication. Had an new doctor in training and he heard something someone said to me and came back to check if their was a problem traveling home. I appreciate his ability to recognize the problem areas when people need to change. 2000something good was happening with new doctors and nurses who have been working on aftercare today.

I had my baby boy at the UAB WIC and they made us feel like we were at home. They noticed that my son had a sickness when he was in my womb but they monitored and did everything they needed to do to avoid giving him surgery and the NICU after birth! I loved their service so much I didn't want to leave.

I came here late on a Wednesday night by ambulance being transfered from another hospital. They are kind, compassionate, don't treat me like a drug seeker and reallize I'm in genuine pain. They have specialist that know what their doing and are good at their jobs. I have second and third degree burns along with a fractured ankle, and they didn't just treat the burn, they also had me re x-rayed and fitted for another boot (which I don't care for -but it's the boot not them) they cleaned my burn and wrapped it with a special sponge type wrap that will last a week. I'm due to return next week to their clinic. I really like the staff. Even at night they are helpful and attentive. Wished I had came here first.

My husband was in the trauma/burn unit and he couldn't have ask for a better team working with him. Each and every single person that walked in that room, regardless of what they were coming in for, was the best. If (and we pray there isn't a need) we ever have to use a hospital again, it will be UAB.

To whom it may concern: My wife, Denisea Marengo was nearly 2 years removed from cancer surgery that took nearly her entire tongue. Having been told by attending physicians then that she would have to live the rest of her life with tracheostomy. Weeks of searching led her to Dr Paul Castellanos and the miracles began. The surgeries, setbacks, procedures, setbacks and ultimate victory transpired when not only was the tracheostomy removed but tracheal resection gave her life back to her. He has cared for us as none other. He is a special doctor who understands and cares. My wife is looking ahead to resuming her calling as an educator, now to those with hearing disabilities. Had we given up in 2012 life would be so different. Thank you Dr C and no thanks to the administration above him for making sure he is no longer part of the UAB sysytem as of May 2018. Jesus said pray for your enemies, so you do have my prayers...I have no respect for you as men and/or women entrusted with a sacred calling to participate in healing. I am Chris Marengo

I am not writing for a hospital ad or an insurance company. My step-daughter was bitten by a brown recuse spider. She went to an emergency room in Pickens Co. She went to an emergency room in Tuscaloosa Co. She saw probably 8 different doctors. One sent her home with anti's and another took her off of them. One cut her which probably spread the toxins. After her condition kept getting worse we were referred to UAB by social media. Not by a Doctor. They basically did everything possible to save her life. She was going into septic shock. She turned yellow. She was dying. They gave her 6 blood transfusions and brought in every specialist they had. If you just need some pain meds I would suggest somewhere else. If my life were on the line, this would be my first choice. If not for UAB she would not be here today. All these bad reviews about waiting. Well at least your are alive to tell it. If you want a hospital that will save your life, then choose UAB...If that is low on your list of priorities in a hospital, then choose another one. UAB is listed as one of the top 100 hospitals and cancer centers in the country, also specializing in cardiac surgery, with many of their doctors being recipients of "The Best Doctors in America" award. I have been admitted there twice, and received the best of care from very thorough and brilliant doctors. People come from all over the country to be treated at UAB. When you have this caliber of hospital in your own city, why would you go anywhere else? It's a no brainer.

Wonderful Hospital! My husband was rushed there by Ambulance from RMC in Anniston He had a brain bleed, a stroke, he was having Coughing induced syncope! The first doctor we saw because this was late Saturday night was a Resident a Dr Copia he was an angel very patient, professional and listened to us! We saw Dr Fataluh who was a genius, very professional, nice and took time to listen to us and answer our questions! I would recommend this team at UAB to anyone who has a family member that has had a stroke! We also saw a great team of pulmonary doctors a Dr Marshall and I can't remember all the other names but I do know that at UAB you get answers!! They all work together to find a solution to the problem. May God Bless them all!! Thankyou for saving my husband !! Jeff and Rachel Campbell!!

I was very upset that my mother could not stay in anniston RMC hospital because RMC said no bed for her. God knew best the emergency room staff were professional kind and informative the Dr did not rush in and out they answered questions and we're kind not in anniston what a difference mom and I have been treated with respect and compassion in anniston you push the call button someone may get to y you in 30 min if you're lucky at uab answered immediately and in your room within min even in the corridors if you just look like you need help even staff leaving for the day not only offered help didn't just point walked me to my destination or went and got someone that could help me not what you expect from such a large hospital. Take note anniston hospitals Dr and nurses support staff.

So love this place Great OTOLARYNGOLOGY. DEPT .. GREAT NURSES AND DOCTORS. ..... Well after 4 surgery that my husband has had at this hospital this stay has been HORRIBLE.. After surgery they moved him to step down and the nurse he had that afternoon decide to throw a cup at him she said she dropped it but if you drop something on a patient your going to apologise but she never did.. They had his IV in the bend of his arm so every time he moved his machine went off but of course it was his fault but come to find out on his last day at the hospital it was a bad machine.. And my husband couldn't talk so I had to order his food well I miss placed his menu and I ask for a new one from the nurse sitting at the computer Lord you would of thought I ask for something horrible because that chick didn't like it because she had to get up out of her chair.... This stay for my husband has been HORRIBLE..

Debbie, Deborah, Heather, Freida, Andrea, Macy (ccu), Shannel (just to name a few) are all EARTHLY ANGELS. OH the doctors are the best too! THE ONLY REASON IT GOT 4 STARS IS BECAUSE THE TV'S HAVE BEEN GOING OUT EVERY NIGHT AROUND THE SAME TIME😣😣😣. GET IT TOGETHER UAB ! Other than that, it's a great facility.
