St. Vincent’s East outpatient surgery was phenomenal for my mother- every encounter with staffing was polite, professional and timely. I was skeptical about her going to STV East but now I can say I would recommend it. Thank you Dr. Clark and your team for being phenomenal today. Very good impression. Very pleased.

I went in last night because of my stomach and back killing me and they told me I had a bad gallbladder and needed it removed. My nurse Mikayla was amazing and kept me calm and informed the entire time, and checked up on me as often as possible. The surgical staff were great as well, they took care of me and made sure to answer every question I had. Definitely would recommend this hospital

I went to the ER yesterday and everything was great; from reception, to wait time, to going back to my room. Once I got back, Santina & Paige were fantastic. They listened to my issue that I had in past, then put a process together and quickly got me what I needed. The whole staff was attentive during this time, getting me plenty of blankets, pillows, and keeping the room at a nice warm temp as I was freezing. As it did not go away after a few hours, they kept working on me, while in other situations I have been rushed out of ER’s. Thankfully they got everything under control and was able to go home of Christmas Eve with my family. Clean and comfortable facility. 5-star experience at St. Vincent’s East ER!

I hadnt been in a hospital where they are so caring and loving. We are from Texas had to do an unfortunate stop, since the moment we got there through the ER until my husband got released I couldn’t have said anything but amazing things. Nurse Luke down at the ER was amazing and into the 5th floor and Nurse Sherry was there her hospitality, her passion, just had no words. There were several of other nurses who work on that floor who did absolute great job, and the surgeons got figured what my husband had. Thank you all so much for an amazing stay no only alert of my husband but myself as well.

Had to visit the ED bright and early on a holiday. We were quickly taken back to a room and saw nursing staff and physician quickly. Immediate needs were taken care of and, I feel, a thorough workup was done. Dr. Cyrus, Diona, and Chem took great care of us, explained treatment plan, discussed options, and referred us for follow up.

My 80 year old husband was brought to ER Monday morning with Covid. He was very confused. He has dementia also. They were wonderful in ER and also are great on 4th floor. He’s in quarantine, and the nurses and aids have been so caring and friendly! The doctors and nurses are so thorough in checking everything.

Recently my brother had knee replacement surgery performed by Dr. Orr at St. Vincents’s East. From the moment we arrived, the hospital staff were pleasant and helpful. He had to stay overnight and received the utmost care. His nurses, Sophia and Cindy ( 4 th floor) went over and beyond to make him as comfortable as possible. We are so thankful for his care during this time. We would highly recommend Dr. Orr and St. Vincent’s East for orthopedic surgery.

My husband had total knee replacement #2 yesterday (8/31/22) and the staff on the Orthopedic floor(4th floor), Pre-op-PACU didn’t disappoint!! They are awesome! Wonderful experience in January with knee #1 and they are definitely consistent! The 4th floor staff were so attentive and had the best attitude…I’m a nurse and was very at ease with the care my husband received! Highly recommend St Vincent’s East for your Ortho needs and Dr Orr (Alabama Orthopedic) is awesome and best surgeon by far I’ve met in many years!

thank you everyone at st. vincent’s for taking such good care of me! miss emily and mr brian on the er floor took amazing care of me when i was admitted for dka. once on the icu floor, mr thomas, miss robin, and miss leah all made my stay very pleasant given the circumstances. i very much appreciate all my doctors but my nurses went above and beyond with my care. all my nurses were very friendly, thorough, and made me feel comfortable. if any if my nurses see this, you guys are totally awesome! thank you guys for being there for me and doing the best job ever!

I don't knowu about the hospital. But I can tell you from experience the security officer named Robert is a angel...I had locked/ lost my car keys at ab 2 am on Friday 13th this man stayed with me and my daughter until someone locksmith came open my doors and found my keys inside hospital he kept us warm and dry and out of danger can't say enough about this man .but he is a great man he went above the call of duty so happy for his service. So big thanks to mr.robeet and security service .

I am really impressed with St Vincent East. I know that Covid has done a job in all the hospitals and it’s a little better right now but when I came into the ER they were so good it got me in and at least got me laying down and got me a room. I was impressed with the doctor that I saw. I’m sorry I can’t give you her name. I got a room in the hospital within three hours of my arriving. I can’t say enough good thing it’s about the nurses that have been taking care of me. So kind and considerate and willing to do anything I need , even though some of it probably isn’t part of their job. Although we consider everything we need for our care to be part of their job. This is such a good hospital to get to. It’s not in the big city and doesn’t have huge crowds. I just love everything about it everybody is so friendly and caring . I hope that this review will make you understand the importance of hospitals like this that aren’t huge but are so well equipped and evidently take really good care of their family meaning they employs

From my arrival around 5:00 am, everyone was so nice. The process was very smooth. I’d especially like to recognize the nurses in PACU. I spent a long time there and let me just say that they literally never stopped. I’m not sure how they even have time for lunch! Those were some of the hardest working folks I’ve been around in awhile! They still managed to be kind and compassionate to everyone who came in. The staff, once I got a bed, were also really great and treated me so well. My overall experience was a very positive one.

I had a very nice experience when I went to Same Day Services, for an outpatient CT Scan. My physician was able to get me on the same day the referral was made. Registration was pretty easy using my cell phone, waiting time back in Imagining wasn’t too long. The CT technicians were friendly and competent, and I was in and out in maybe 90 minutes. I old recommend anyone needing a CT Scan to try and get it here, St Vincent’s East.

I had surgery on my left foot. An out patient procedure. Everything was fantastic! My doctor was amazing, the staff was exceptionally friendly and kept me well informed. I had to wait a bit before the procedure was done, but overall, it was fairly quick. Everything was very clean and well kept. I have no complaints.

My husband was a patient at St Vincent East Hospital for 6 days. When he was admitted we were not sure he would make it home. He had MRSA Pneumonia and was septic when he went in. We credit the wonderful staff and fantastic doctors who took care of him for his amazing recovery. Someone was always checking on him with a smile. We never experienced bad attitudes from anyone. Everyone was very professional and always on top of things. They always went out of their way to help. My husband spent a week in Grandview a few years ago and they did not live up to St Vincent East Hospital. We will always be grateful for everything - words are not enough. Thank you to each and everyone of you!!

What a wonderful place to get treated. I took my mother in for a surgical procedure and I've never had such a pleasant experience. The hospital goes above and beyond to help you. Everyone was so kind, and went out of their way to help me with what needed to be done that day. They delivered my mom's medications to me during the procedure, helping me by not making me have to go pick them up afterwards. Johnna our same day services nurse was so kind and helpful. I just can't stress enough how much they made this a wonderful experience and how they went above and beyond. The nurses gave us a thank you card that meant so much to my mother. We live far out from this hospital but it is totally worth the drive because of the care that you receive. I can't give enough stars to explain my gratitude.

I had a wonderful experience at St Vincent’s East this past Monday, Feb 28th. The hospital was clean, well organized and offered a friendly and professional atmosphere. From the moment head nurse Rachel Music came out to prepare me for my surgery till I was released to go I felt like I was the only patient my Nurse (Felicia) had to care for. She was attentive, caring and very friendly. Dr Heinzman , as well as the Anesthesiologist answered my questions and explained what they would be doing to ease my anxiety. I highly recommend this Hospital.

My husband was transported from Pellcity St. Vincent's to this St. Vincent's for treatment came to conclusion that he needed Pacemakers, heart running too low. We have used this facility before nothing bad to say excellent care, careing and professional staff, nurses were great. Never felt neglected. The morning prayers were uplifting when you need that extra strength from God. A retired pastor himself, but still preaching the gospel, trusting God for his healing. If you want a good hospital stay, your attitude helps, your not the only patient they deal with but ,we felt like we were important. Thank you.

Had to have surgery here. With the exception of one incredibly mean and rude nurse the nursing staff was excellent. They went above and beyond to make sure you were comfortable and cared for. The place was clean. It is a good choice for same day surgery.

This was my first time at St. Vincent's and I have to say that it was the best experience in a hospital I have ever had. I was at the heart cath lab but felt like I was a princess. The staff was very informative and caring. It seemed like they were reading my mind because I never had to ask for anything, from answering my questions before I could even ask, to getting me something to eat after the cath was done. I'm very impressed with the way this hospital and staff care for the patient.

Highs and Lows

I had a very good experience here during surgery. Very friendly staff. Only one staff was consistently not friendly. Everyone else was very cordial. The team seemed to be well organized and skilled. I was taken care of well.

I just want to give a review on the surgery waiting room receptionist (I believe her name is Susan). She is an absolute rockstar. I have been waiting for my husband to get out of surgery and been watching this woman work. She’s kind, she’s helpful, she wants to make everyone feel informed and comfortable. She’s been coming out to get the family member’s info and then takes it upon herself to find us individually with updates and explanations. How she remembers all of us even when we are all moving around the waiting room is incredible. I’ve even watched her escort a number of people to where they need to go rather than just point like most do. This woman is an absolute gem within your organization and needs some serious praise! They can only do and take you so far for what’s allowed in allopathic medicine, so not far enough for me. I’m really interested and prefer holistic medicine. I got what I needed done in that realm. That’s all I’ve got to say.

I had a robotic surgery hernia operation and it went great. I had a regular double hernia operation about ten years ago and it was very painful. This robotic operation, by comparison, was a breeze. This place is full of professional courteous workers. Been there for 3 different surgeries over the last 4 years. I recommend StVe highly. The food is even good. My doctors who work at that place are great, Dr's. DuBois, Wade, Hodges, and Gresham. Administrators keep it up.

My outpatient procedure was for an EGD for upper GI bleed. Becky was the best, most professional and thorough RN I saw. All staff were cheerful empathetic and professional. My veins are difficult and mostly previously used due to many procedures; but the nurse who started my IV was excellent establishing a good size access and securely taping it. I am a retired RN with 30 Yrs experience in specialty care and admin. First class personnel and practice. I have the best GI doctor who is also Heptologist and expert in Hemochromatosis: Dr Robert Schaffer. Thanks go to all the fine staff top to bottom. BTW, many of the nurses were great Christians.

Love this practice and my physician, Dr. John Reaves. All the people, Angela, the receptionist, my Dr’s nurse Samantha and and the lab tech are friendly and attentive. My experence at Saint vincent Hospital on March 8th was a good one. I like the way the doctor if i can mention his Name and his assistant Doctor Dubois treated me in their care along with the Technian that gave me my Sonogram treated me in their care was very nice and understaning to the Question's i had to Ask. They were very pleasant in explaining to me what i needed to know. Never were admitted in the hospital there but just being in their care for Appointments they were Awesome. So i would like to thank them for being there for me. And if it every comes a time that i have to be admitted there i hope and Pray that i get the same care from the rest. I had surgery on my hand in November at a different hospital.The pain got a lot worse after the surgery.The artificial ligament finally popped loose and my doctor sent me to Doctor Maddox.He did the surgery last Tuesday and I only took pain medicine the day of and the day after.Just to make sure I didn't hurt so bad.I haven't taken anything for pain since. I cried when he told me he needed to go back in I was dreading all of that pain again! But I am not hurting anymore! I am very pleased with Doctor Maddox and the staff! I am not dreading to have it done to my left one anywhere near as bad as I was! Other than being out of work.Thank you so much!

On March 2nd my mother in-law had a doctor's appointment, she ended up leaving the doctor's office in an ambulance, she was taken to St.Vincent in Pell City, and was transferred to St.Vincent East in Trussville. I arrived at the hospital a couple hours before the ambulance, so I went on up to the room she was to be admitted in , once in the room, I settled in to wait on my mother in-law to arrive, I guess the nurse must have saw me as I past the nurses station, because not long as after I got settled in she came in with a blanket and pillow but most of all a warm welcoming smile. She told me she would check with the other hospital to see if they had left with my mother in-law and about when she would be arriving here, but in the meantime she told me to try and rest and if she could help me with anything just let her know. I thought to myself , how sweet she was and I prayed that my mother in-laws nurse would be just as caring. I'm happy to say that everyone here has been awesome and they have given our family such care , the nurses on the 5th floor are angels, and I couldn't have asked for better people to care for our loved one. I wanted to especially thank Jennifer, Latoya, and Clarissa for going above and beyond to care for my mother in-law. The staff here are truly heroes and our family is great full for each and every one of you. St.Vincents East 5th floor nurses rock. Thanks for all you have done and continue to do daily. I visited Dr Kassamali’s office on March 17, 2020. The visit was very good. I shared with Dr Kassamali that I had lost my son, who always accompanied me when I went to see him because we both saw the Dr for the same issue, Chronic Kidney Desease. Dr Kassamali was always so nice to my son and I, oh and also my son’s Service Dog, Apollo. He is an awesome Dr and I will continue seeing him. Wish all the Drs were as good as he is.

I can't say anything bad about these people considering they saved my life a few times already. I see a lot of people writing complaints and i have to say i did NOT have their experience. The nurses were attentive and pretty quick. The doctors are well doctors. They're in, they talk, and they're out because they have a pretty tight schedule. I can't actually complain about the conditions of the room because there was nothing to really complain about. When i go to a hospital, i don't have expectations of what problem i have nor do i try and tell a doctor his/her job. They fix my problem and, they were clean and well set against COVID (even tested me), and they got the job done.

I gave them a 3 star rating because of confusing situation with scheduling. I needed to been seen by my primary care doctor and I thought I was scheduled to see her. I arrived for my appointment and check in I was told that I would be seeing the other Dr.her group practice because she doesn’t work on Wednesday:/ . I also has difficulties issues with the online patient portal trying to read my lab work results from my blood work I had done.

I even got a voicemail this morning from one of the nurses checking on me and thanking me for letting them care for me. The staff on 3 South has bad communication but on the other hand, Candace is an amazing nurse. Andrew and Allison in the MICU are both rockstar nurses and deserve raises. Patrick and Santiel on 4 West both do their job correctly and efficiently.

Hospital staff are wonderful but the cafe employees and manager are rude and could care less. Act as if they are the only way to get drinks or food. Vending machine snacks are stale. Will have to leave to get something good too eat.

My mother-in-law was a terminal patient at St. Vincents East in Birmingham and received excellent care. She was in Medical ICU on the 5th floor, and had compassionate, caring nurses (thank you Courtney!). When she was transferred to palliative care, I was so impressed with Amber, her coordinator. Amber has a gift for ministering to families during a most difficult time. Her compassion and excellent care will not be forgotten.

Due to an unexpected appendectomy I found myself being transferred to St Vincent’s East. I received exceptional care and had the pleasure of meeting some nurses who are truly priceless and love their jobs. We had a recent stay with our mother. We were in the ER and the staff and information was outstanding as well as Nurse Practitioner's and MD's. We moved on to MICU were we were received by a loving, caring and informed staff. We remained in MICU and transitioned to palliative care with in the same room and the excellent care and support continued. We were there in a difficult and stressful time. I won't provide names in fear of missing someone and we know the faces behind the scene also keep thing running. All your staff did their jobs and gave a bit of themselves to us in our time of need. I just spent two days there with my niece, Teia Horton. She had knee revision surgery. Dr Scott Orr did her surgery. He is a wonderful dr. The nurses were great. Kim Ray was her nurse the first night, and she was great. Heather was her nurse for two of the days. Heather was outstanding. She went above and beyond to help us. Kayla was her assistant, and she also was excellent. Rusty was a very good nurse. And a man named Tyrone put in her picline painlessly. We were amazed and thankful for their amazing service. They helped us so much. I hope they get a raise for their excellent service. We were there on the 4th floor, room 456 from Wed. Nov. the 11th, until the Fri. The 13th. I keep seeing negative reviews for the hospital, and I keep being shocked. I just got home today from a surgical stay, and my experience was terrific. I had dealings with admissions, pre-testing, same day services, nutrition, food services, and even housekeeping not to mention the nursing staff, and everyone went out of their way to be friendly. I found the staff to be kind, courteous, conscientious, and efficient. My room was extremely clean and kept that way. I would like to give the all the nurses and PCTs on the 6th floor (I was in room 611) a big THANK YOU for the excellent care and kindness that I received. They really made what could have been a bad experience a great one instead. I would recommend this hospital to anyone.

My daughter had to have her gallbladder removed. I was there with 4 of my grandkids for most of the day. Since this is a hospital I expected people not to like the idea of someone having 4 kids. They are 7.. 4.. 2..1. My experience was great. There was so many nurses and doctors to speak to all of the kids. In the waiting area the lady even turned the tv to cartoons for the kids. The ladies in the cafeteria were great. They helped me get trays and what all I needed to feed all 4 kids. I couldn't ask to be treated better

My family is from Georgia and we were visiting Barber for the weekend when my husband started experiencing severe stomach pains. The local urgent care suggested we visit the St. Vincent East ER for a CT scan/ultrasound to check his appendix. As we were being discharged from urgent care, I looked up the reviews for St. Vincent and became nervous about visiting a hospital with such low ratings. Once we arrived (on a Saturday evening), we were greeted by a friendly Registrar who checked him in and within 10 minutes we were called back to a room. Within 2.5 hours, they had drawn blood, received the results, ordered a CT scan with contrast, diagnosed my husband with appendicitis, started him on antibiotics and began the process for him to be admitted with an appendectomy scheduled for first thing Sunday morning. The nurses in the ER were very kind and attentive! Always asking if we needed anything and checking in frequently with updates. Once my husband was admitted to the 6th floor, we met Kim who assisted the nurse. I cannot praise her enough for the wonderful care my husband (and myself) received from her!! You can tell immediately that she has a pure passion for what she does, and the people put under her care!! She knew I was going to stay the night and without asking, she requested a cot and provided us with extra pillows and even brought me a gown and comfy socks so that I didn’t have to sleep in my day clothes. She was so courteous during vital checks by keeping the lights off and working quickly to try not to disturb my husband while he was sleeping. Dr. Nguyen was the surgeon who came and spoke with me before the surgery. preparing me for what to expect post-surgery. They kept him for several hours after the surgery to ensure everything was working properly as the anesthesia wore off. When it was time to be discharged, my husband’s pain levels were creeping up and he asked for some pain medication before driving 3 hours back home. He was told that he would have to stay another hour for observation if he took the pain meds. At that point, he just wanted to get home and in his own bed, so he declined the meds. The nurse was kind enough to call the doctor to get approval for one of the pain pills he was prescribed to help him get home in the most comfort possible. Overall, I could not have asked for better care for my husband and would have no hesitations recommending this hospital.

The imaging staff were patient, friendly, and accommodating. The facilities were clean and they had suitable distancing procedures in place for COVID-19.
