Reviews of Vanderbilt University Medical Center

My grandmother is 75 with Leukemia. We’ve been visiting her everyday, and each time we’re greeted with kindness. My grandmother constantly says how much she likes the nurses and doctors, and how grateful she is for them. Her primary nurse is Rachel, and she is just the absolute sweetest. She’s always in the room as soon as my grandma calls for her, and she goes above and beyond for her. I’m honestly so thankful and grateful for the nurses and doctors.

Vanderbilt saved my life! My wife took me from another hospital to Vanderbilt. Once I arrived the care and comfort I received was the best I have every received. Once there the doctors had a plan and operation and a way to move forward. During that period I was seen by so many, everyone was profession, kind and caring. The nurses, cnas, lpns made sure I supported and cared for. My surgery went great, and the week and half I spend there recovering was once again amazing. They took unbelievably great care of me and my wife that never left my side. I wanted to say THANK YOU!!!!!!

Absolutely amazing nurses doctors and faculty. Went to the Franklin Vanderbilt med check for serious burns on my son lap area. The doctors there quickly got him in the back and assessed by the doctors. Quickly made the decision to transfer him to the pediatric burn center downtown at the hospital. Quickly made the call for an ambulance and the firefighters and paramedics arrived within probably 5 mins. The paramedics were amazing with my son and calmed my nerves the entire way there. They quickly got him in a room and within minutes a nurse came in and gave my son more ice packs for his pain. Within 1:30 the doctors assessed him paged the oncall specialist and was being treated by the pediatric burn doctor. This place has always been amazing including 10 years ago when the same son had a rare form of blood cancer. And my other son took a fastball to the eye. And when he broke his thumb in 3 places.

I'm in your ER room right now 1561 with 4 broke ribs and spleen laceration. It hurts alot to get in and out of bed i can't bend down at all! So i cry out in pain while doing that after i get back settled it doesn't hurt so much...well i just had a nurse, not mine mine Amanda is great sweet and compassionate. Well a nurse named Tamera just stormed in here and told me to ne quit that she had a man that was real sick everybody her is sick or injured I'm really upset about the way i was treated and would like to talk to a supervisor of hers. I didn't deserve to be screamed at and i had refused that ketamine because it made me feel funny she's telling me i shouldn't refuse it because it would have put me to sleep and then you would be quite 😡😡

Thanks to all the wonderful nurses and doctors who treated my mom while she was there!
Wonderful ER & cardiology floor. Thank you so much Tessa, MacKenzie, Laura, Dr. Gunn, Dr. Aday, Dr. Holmes.
**Attention Vanderbilt, Dasani water you give to your patients is NOT good for cardiacs!!!!!

My father wanted me to let the nurses on the neuro icu to know how much he appreciated them during his stay recently Nurse Bari was exceptional in the way she treated him as well as the overnight nurse that worked 1/20/23 and 1/21/23. He wants them recognized for there professionalism and compassion. Paul Young room 6631.

My dad is 87. Yesterday, he had a series of tests. Radiology and Urology. The staff treated him so well and everything was on time, which is so appreciated. The outdoor dining area is nice. The food was good and the restaurant is very clean. Again, very friendly staff. The free parking is also appreciated.

My husband was hurt badly, they have and still are taking really good care of him. He is now in ICU waiting for his own room. The staff and doctors are very understanding and they really seem to care not just for their patients but you too.

Great hospital with a great staff. Really gets to the root of the problem & makes sure you are feeling better & are set to make sure your have all the tools to finish up recovering at home when discharged.
YES, the ER wait can be crazy long (I’ve waited 8+ hours once before even getting called back to a treatment area in the ER, & 9/10 you will more than likely end up in a hallway bed), but if you go early in the AM or very late at night, you can possibly be seen quicker.
One HUGE NEGATIVE is that this hospital needs to be seriously treated for bedbugs, ASAP. The few times that I’ve had to be admitted here, no matter what floor I stayed on, I went home with some very itchy bites that I didn’t have when I arrived. This hospital makes entirely too much money, for this to be a problem.

My wife went in because of blurred vision. Each member of the staff took their time and showed patients and empathy. Also, we did not receive multiple diagnosis without doing due diligence. You can tell that staff wanted to get it right and not treat you as another number. I’ve been to numerous different hospitals—I’m originally from Louisiana & served in military—Vanderbilt is at the top of the list for me!!

I can never thank my live transplant TEAM enough for saving my life. I did not realize how sick I actually was. Dr. Karp and his surgical team were amazing. Thank you!! ICU and critical care units Thank you! But most of all, I truly want to thank Dr. Scanga and Kimberly N P as they are so kind and caring through all of this and the rest of my life. The transplant teams at Vanderbilt are the BEST. They have made a liver transplant from the start to the finish a very organized and teaching experience for me and my family (care givers). I know I left a lot of people out and thank you as well. I give you thanks and keep you all in my prayers. Liver transplant 4/11/18. God bless you all!!! THANK YOU ❤️

I recently stayed a week in Vanderbilt after a bad fall. The trauma-spine surgical team was wonderful along with the Pre & Post Op nursing teams. The ICU nursing was also fantastic. Would also like to do a shout out to Jess who works on the regular floors. This caregiver was extremely hardworking, knowledgeable and caring. Everything a nurse should be. These are tough times for nursing and medical providers in general. We appreciate you!
Thank you Vanderbilt!

My husband recently got diagnosed with Medullary Thyroid Cancer, and had to get a complete thyroidectomy as well as the removal of several lymph nodes. Dr. Netterville and his residents Dr.E and Dr.Will were phenomenal, they made sure to inform us every detail that we needed to know and made sure to make us feel comfortable and at peace. We had to stay over night for 2 nights, and we had the greatest Nurses and CNA’s. We absolutely love April, Karen and Katrina so much! They were incredible. As well as all of the nurses, staff and anyone who greeted or helped us find our way throughout the hospital. We can not say thank you enough. Y’all were truly blessings and an answered prayer! I hope that each and every one that helped us get the chance to read this and to know how special and how appreciated that you are!

All the staff have been very kind. Their ER is strict with its policies but helpful and provide attention to patients in order of urgency. All get called into triage very quickly. I am thankful for all the support the staff have provided these past few days. This is a Regional Medical Center with helicopters flying in and out all day and even through the night. Lots of specialists that consult with each other here as well. Great experience thus far considering our unfortunate lcircumstances.
Jessica Brown
Dr. Michael Longo and Dr. Morone have been absolutely amazing during my father's stay. His chances were not the best but they both worked around the clock to make sure my father made it. I am forever thankful for the kindness and determination that came from them. We were informed and supported every single step up the way. I owe everything to them.

I’m not just an employee but also have been a patient here. I was involved in a traumatic car accident and life flighted here, unbeknownst to me because I was in a coma. The staff in the trauma unit, SICU, and ICU went above and beyond. The surgeons are skilled at the art of repair. I fully believe that God and the Vanderbilt medical staff are the only reasons I’m still alive. Now that I work here I see behind the scenes and the nurses and doctors are just magnificent. They really care about people and do their best to treat and accommodate. Wish I could give infinite stars to this place.

Vanderbilt is a great Hospital packed full of great Doctors.

My Husband had surgery for cancer which was successful. ALL the care by Dr J Smith was top notch. His team also was caring, thourough and detailed.Super good.
Kind and thoughtful.Dr Smith took the time to come talk to me twice, Impressive.
Front desk are manned by different people. The surgical reception by the front doors isn't friendly at all. So be warned. But
good.once you get past them, and into the actual nursing side

Both of my youngest sons stayed in the NICU here, and at Children’s Hospital, they have great NICU nurses, and pediatric doctors. They care for and really love these tiny often severely ill preemie babies, and help get them to a point where they can come home with their families. Also, the labor and delivery nurses, post-care nurses and gynecologist, are excellent. Thank you all for everything!

My brother in law had a very serious accident. Was life flight to Vanderbilt. Nothing could be done to save his life. From the parking lot to the nurses and doctors. Grateful to all that work at such a wonderful hospital. Nice, courteous. Thank you.

I recently had a Bronchialscopy on 11/3. The care and concern was above and beyond what I expected. I was overwhelmed by the professionalism, kindness and friendliness of my care team. Choosing Vanderbilt Health Care is the best possible decision I could have made to take care my cancer diagnosis. My highest praise goes out to Dr. Katherine Beckerman and her staff for seeing to my every need and getting me the proper care to insure my recovery from my cancer. I'm a highly satisfied patient.
Stacey Bowen
They were the best during my two surgeries and hospital stays last month. He had 2 major spine surgeries and everyone was awesome in his care. Dr Christopher Bonfield and the spine team were the absolute best. The 6th floor nurses and staff in both the North and South wing took such good care of him.We appreciate their care and the attention they gave to us so much.

I recently gave birth here (1-7-2021) and despite the loss of my son due to a fatal health condition, the vanderbilt team took decent care of my family and I.
So I'll start off with the good experiences and then follow with the bad experiences during my stay at the hospital.
The nurses I had were compassionate towards me and family for the circumstance we were in, and they were also pretty prompt about any requests I would make.
The anesthesiologist who administered my epidural did a very good job, while she was administering it my labor basically progressed from nothing to about 8-9 cm in a little over an hour or so (she didn't take an hour to administer it, but that time is from when they ordered it to the whole process being complete. Once I ordered the epidural they were in my room in about 10 minutes, but they have lots of things to do before and after administering the epidural). Althoigh my labor was getting really intense, they were extremely calm and nice, and helped give me clear instruction of proper positioning. This was the first time I've gotten an epidural (I've had 3) and it actually didn't hurt that bad. With my other two children, especially my first, I was in screaming pain while they were putting it in.
The post partum nurses were not intrusive and coming in the room all the time, and my husband and I were able to leave the hospital the next day after the baby was born.
The NICU team was pleasant as well, there wasn't anything that could be done to save my son's life, so his passing has nothing to do them. They did their best to intervene in the little ways they could without interrupting our precious moments with our little one.
After he was born, the child life specialist (Katy, she is absolutely amazing) got the approval from the higher up's to let my two little girls come and see my son. They got to stay for an hour, and the nurses were very sweet to them and helped us take pictures. They were patient with my girls, even though my 1.5 year old was walking over to the birthing bath tub and turning it on lol. We had a lot of privacy and time well spent as a family.
As far as the more negative experiences, I'll start off with my IV. The first nurse who did my IV did an absolute horrible job. She blew veins in both of my hands and when she put the needle in my skin, the vein would roll so she just kept turning and maneuvering the needle all over the place under my skin to try and get the vein. The administering of my IV literally hurt worse than my epidural. Not kidding. It was the worst. Thankfully nurse Delanie was way more experiences and properly administered my IV without pain, and without a problem.
The last thing is the postpartum room we stayed in. Unfortunately Vanderbilt can't help that they had an abundance of patients that day, but since they were so full we had to stay in one of the overflow post partum rooms. Anyone who'd ever had a baby before knows that the post partum room is always smaller the the room you give birth in. But this room was extremely small... the bathroom had to be shared with a neighboring patient, there was no windows in the room, there is no shower, and it looks pretty old and unwelcoming.
Thankfully we didn't even have to stay at the hospital a full 24 hours after my son was born, so I was able to return home to shower and grieve with my husband comfortably. But the room itself is so depressing on top of an already sorrowful time.
Other than that my stay was exceptional, and my husband and I were taken good care of.

Incredible staff. I have been to the ER, neurology, and another unit for an MRI. Nearly everyone I have encountered has been non-judgmental and supportive. I especially want to thank the 2 men who assisted my recent MRI - they made an extremely nerve wracking experience light and comforting. I felt so lucky to be in good hands.

My son has been sick for almost ten years and no one in the southeast parts of TN, north GA or eastern NC have ever been able to help, well they have got to where they want even see him anymore. He came to Vandi and within a couple of hours they have found and are working on the problem. One scan, the same scan that was done last week back home where they said Nothing was wrong, and just like that they found it. Praying it is not to late, he is so sick right now he is unable to have the surgery he needs. Thanks to each and every one of the staff and doctors. Our prayers are for our son and all that are taking care of him. God bless you all.

I am at a loss as to why such a great institution has such a low Google rating. In every experience with this hospital and its staff I have had nothing but genuine kindness, superb professionalism, and great care shown towards me. I would not choose any other for my Healthcare. I consider Vanderbilt the Johns Hopkins of the South! (Used to live in Baltimore) Keep doing what you're doing Vanderbilt. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

My son was burnt in an explosion at work . He was taken to Vanderbilt. They only kept him one night in the ICU step down. No one doctored his foot at all. His eyes were not checked even though we asked. He is having hearing issues and didn’t get to see anyone for it. The burn doctors were nice and seemed to listen but never followed thru with what he needs. The following day someone calls the room from Vandy and told us he would go home the next day but that evening a transport employee shows up at his room wanting to know if we were packed. I said no , we weren’t going home til tomorrow. She said no, you are leaving now. We live two hours away and my husband had to come get us. My son went home with his toes bleeding and one had the top blown off from the explosion and barely hanging on. The doc at the clinic cut some of the skin off a few days later but it has never stopped bleeding since the accident. The night we left they told us to be sure the nurse scanned our insurance cards in. She did, but miraculously they don’t have them. At the clinic I was told he needed to see a surgeon and as soon as his Workmans comp gets in the system that I can make him an apt. Today a lady calls from Vandy at 8am and tells me his Workmans comp was in the system. I call to make his apt with the surgeon and was told that I can’t make him an apt , his Workmans comp has to. When we went home, his paperwork shows he was suppose to have therapy 3times weekly for 12 weeks. Also they said they would set up in home health care but it never happened. I’m so frustrated! The children’s hospital was always good. How dare these people not get my son the help he needs. He has good insurance other than Workmans comp.

I have to give a special thank you to Austin F the RN. I came into the ER with a knee injury around 3 in the morning and he was so kind and took the time to talk to me and my sister + give us some snacks. He made the experience so much better and it is so great to know they have such kind people at this hospital.

First off the staff lady who works on the 6th floor named Linda!!! has a bad funky nasty attitude which needs to be fixed and fast i stepped out the room when i had a phone call, and she said go out in the waiting room but it's how her funky smart mouth said it and very rude plus loud!! I've done that plenty of time's with no one ever saying ANYTHING she was looking at me funky the whole entire night you all need to talk to these women staff and they need to fix their attiudes before coming to work, but Linda has a bad nasty attitude that's one reason i hate hospitals and workers in it!!!

My husband received the best care in the ICU I have ever witnessed in a hospital. The nursing staff had wonderful bedside manners and were very knowledgeable in their care of him. The doctors and NPs were thorough with their plans and assessments; they were very willing to explain what they were doing and the changing conditions of my husband in terms that I was fully able to understand. I could not ask for a better ICU staff than what we had. I would fully recommend Vanderbilt to anyone needing to be in a top-notch hospital.

Always first class treatment. If for reason they are full and u have to really wait a longer than normal time. They will apologize over and over. Because some of the other people are much sicker than u are. Gun shot or car wreck. But they are awesome. And I'm a 44 yr employee for the university. I do HVAC. I love working here. As well as my daughter a employee as well, almost 17yrs.as like daddy she loves her job. 16 years with the nurses.

There is no way this hospital is not rated a five star facility. From 2004 to 2016 my wife battle stage I and stage II breast cancer with loving doctors and nurses too many to name. From 2013 to date 2021 she has been battling Parkinson’s and Dementia with several surgeries and falls that required hospital stays. I fight everyday to keep her in our home and I couldn’t continue with out the dedicated and loving care she receives from this hospital and her My Health online assistance they give me. Our wait time there is ok, we know others are hurting more and need more care and I never worry about time behind us, but the time we will have together ahead that Vanderbilt has and will continue until the God we serve takes us to our real home! God Bless, Ronnie & Sylvia Russell
Fatima Sulejmani
I believe my daughter and I waited close to an hour to see her, but I didn’t mind the wait too much after I met her. She has the best bedside manners I have ever seen. She takes the time to listen to ALL of your concerns and does not rush you.

The Emergency department staff and all of the nurses were beyond exceptional during our experience with my sister. From the moment I stepped through those ER doors I felt like they had her best interest at heart and keeping her alive was at the top of their priority list. I cant be fun to express my gratitude and thanks to the many people we came in contact with that were so caring and compassionate towards her. I will be eternally grateful for them ❤❤❤

Great experience. Excellent hospital. Special thanks to Dr Naslund and the surgery team. Also the 7th floor cardiac unit. Thank you for all you did for my husband. So thankful to be taking him home to his children and grandchildren!

This is the best hospital I've ever been in. Every nurse, med tech, kitchen employee and the people that cook are great. They have the best food. I was there for a week and loved every meal. My neurosurgeon, Dr. Parker at the spine center were the best. Everyone from the receptionist all the way to Dr. Parker have been a blessing to me and my husband. He stayed in the room with me and they made him feel so comfortable an at home the whole time. I live in Georgia and have a fantastic family doctor here at Erlanger, Dr. Dozier who referred me but, if I ever have to have surgery or be in hospital I will only go to Vanderbilt University Hospital. Thank you to everyone there. Margaret Robinson

My husband doesn't like hospitals and he's usually in a bad mood. At this hospital, he was a happy person. One RN, Ching, on 7th floor North was so good to us both that I must mention her. Also, his kidney transplant doctor is a great doctor. She takes care of her patients as if they were her family. However, everyone was awesome! We won't use another hospital and we live in Alabama! He's actually been in this hospital several times. He's 73 years old and they have saved his life several times. He was on life support during one visit with 2% chance of recovery, and he survived. I can't say enough great things about this hospital!
Mike
Great parking garages, very clean hospital. The best nurses you will find. The doctors do a great job, and they really seem to care. I like the fact that they are big, and have many doctors. The administrative people know their role and are really helpful. Great place so far. They have a good patient portal with all your medical information, appointments, test results, messaging system,, etc
Mike Wallace
My wife just had some major surgery and we spent a week on 9 North. I can't say enough how much I love and respect and appreciate all the staff we came in contact with while we were there. But especially to the nurses and care partners. Ya'll are angels and I will never forget you for your care and compassion.
Sherman Long
My wife was transferred to Vandy after her diagnosis of leukemia. After not being able to have an ambulance to transport her, I took her in our personal vehicle. All the arrangements were already made to be directly admitted and we were met with grace and effectiveness. After being admitted and arriving in her room, the Drs and nurses were the best. That were very professional and encouraging with the treatment. The patient food leaves a lot to be desired, but the patient care is impeccable. Highly recommend this facility. Great place.

Due to an accident at home, my husband was sent by ambulance from Dalton Ga to Vanderbilt. He suffered 1st & 2nd degree burns over 19% of his body. Everyone of the burn unit staff members were extremely welcoming and helpful. We were there a total of 13 days and they went out of their way for us. We were given a room with two beds so I had my own bed, not a chair, to sleep on each night. They knew our situation, being so far from home, and made us feel right at home. The doctors who performed his surgery all came by to check on him several times afterward. The staff is just completely extraordinary in my opinion. And the food is just as good as the staff is helpful.

I have heard so much good things about Vanderbilt Heart growing up when I had problems with my heart 4 years ago it was no hard decision to go there. From that point forward I have had the same heart doctors and some new ones . I can not say enough about the nurses and care givers that helped me this last time . This is all my opinion and I read some bad things about Vanderbilt and I just know how they treated me. I have been to other hospitals and will not go back because of some incident. These Doctors and nurses at Vanderbilt has always treated me with the highest respect. When I think about it there are so many people involved in saving my life and so many things can go wrong I want the best and those that will fight for me that is why I chose Vanderbilt Heart...I thank God and Thank you for saving my life.
Jessica Hughes
My grandmother was taken there last week 7th floor round wing. I stayed with her most of the time and can say firsthand she received excellent care! Everyone that came in room no matter who it was asked if we needed anything at all. The doctors and nurses she had were absolutely wonderful! My grandmother loved her nurses! Keep up the good work!🙂

Vanderbilt University Hospital is one of the, if not THE, best medical facilities in the world. They stay on top of all the best medical practices out there. As a veteran, when the VA cannot handle a particular medical problem, Vanderbilt is where I prefer to go. Unfortunately Vanderbilt is popular, rightfully so. But this makes parking suck a little bit. Absolutely no complaints about any provider I have seen there, and no complaints from family members who have visited either. Vanderbilt is a modern miracle and should be listed as a great wonder of the modern world.
Crystal Bradford
My daughter spent quite a bit of time there with liver cancer. Her doctors were amazing people and most nurses were the kindest sweetest people I've ever met. They treated my child with the up most care. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is bc of the promises that were made to my family and my dying daughter. They promised her shed be swimming by the end of summer, she was ecstatic. She gave every bit of strength she could even though I was pulled in The hall and given the bleed out talk but still told i0 percent change she'd make it. The percentage of survival even though the cancer she had was super rare and they really had no idea what to do. I believe things could have been much different. I feel like my daughter would be here today if certain steps were avoided. I miss her but I am appreciative of the kindness and love she received. It's been 5 months since she passed and I just wish things were different.

My husband had a severe accident on July 4th. Thank goodness they took him to Vanderbilt Medical Center!! Even though the Covid virus was rampant in Nashville, they were very professional and had the screening as they should have. They took such good care of my husband! The whole staff, nurses, doctors and surgeon were the best. They treated him with care and respect. I truly believe, he couldn't have gotten the care anywhere that he was given there. And the surgeon, Alex Jahangir did the extensive surgery and we were so thankful we had him! I feel that they should all be commended for the great job they did in a difficult situation as far as the Covid virus they were dealing with!!! Thank you all!!!
Marvin Adams
My sister had surgery. I had never been in the hospital until the day of the surgery. I interacted with about 10 of the staff and every single one were as nice and helpful as could be. The surgery went well. The doctors were great.
My sister, who has been in and out of the hospital since June says exactly the same thing. Great people and a great up-to-date medical staff
I hope when my time comes for similar services, I am able to go to Vanderbilt.

This was by far the best hospital experience I've ever had. I came to Vanderbilt to visit a family member in ICU and from the first moment we walked in to when we left a few days later the entire staff of the hospital was courteous, genuine and very helpful. Everyone from the nurses and doctors to the cafe staff and the front desk workers were all great! I'm so happy that my family was able to be taken care of in such a top-notch hospital, thank you all!

I am very pleased with our stay at the Children's hospital. Dr. Doyle and the nursing staff were very friendly, and had awesome bedside manners. They were kind and patient with our 8 year old granddaughter, whom had a heart procedure. We do not get this kind of service in our home town. Was here in 2007 with my dad, a cancer patient and had awesome service and care as well. These people have a caring heart. Would recommend to anyone. The care we received was well worth the 5 hour drive.

It's the best! The doctors and nurses are the most caring and educated people, dedicated to their field. We have been coming here for 3 years from out of town with an L-VAD before my husband's heart transplant the other day. We have always been treated with respect and concern. We made a lot of good friends here. This is what I call a safe place. You can depend on them totally!

I would like to give credit where credit is do. I come to Vanderbilt Medical Hospital with my father. From getting our car parked to entering the building was good. Making contact with the professional ladies at the front desk (Leilani, Natosha ) made all the difference. They were kind and very informative. Thank you for a great experience.

I love the care we receive here! The drs and nurses' bedside manners are amazing, their support of the family of the patient, and their patience with the patient during recovery.
My dad had an emergency high risk, quadruple by-pass last week, and while he did have some complications, they were right there with us, and with Dad, helping us through every step of the way.
Today they are prepping him for discharge to a rehab facility, and there is so much care and excitement among his care-team as they are "celebrating" with us, the success of Dads recovery. I am so thankful for Vanderbilt, and that this is where dad was sent for surgery. They saved his life!
Love Vanderbilt. Love the doctors. Love the nurses. Love the students.

I have had multiple problems including colon cancer and 2 heart attacks, a severe fall with multiple fractures and all were treated with great care. Love the hospital, but, Dr. Singh, a back surgeon has not been very gracious.
Multiple 210 mile trips and not a diagnosis yet. Gonna change back doctors if he don't do something soon.
Overall in all my 7 heart procedures, colon cancer and 15 broken bones from a fall I wouldn't go anywhere else. In all my stays only one VERY RUDE nurse. Everyone is super and I recommend Vandy very highly.
Paul J
Great staff all around. Positive attitudes abound. Decent food choices in the cafeteria. Everyone is there to help you find your way around. If I ever had to be admitted, would feel comfortable being treated here. Clean as you would expect a hospital to be.
Emily Richardson
This hospital has been a Blessing. If it wasn't for there compassion and quick actions my son and I would not be here. I'm so incredibly thankful to all the doctors, nurses and even the interns. Every single staff member down to the cleaning crew were so kind and helpful. I will never be able to thank them enough or boast enough about this hospital.
Reace T
Had an 8:00 AM appointment for the Pfizer COVID-19 shot and the staff was exactly 8:00 prompt taking in patients. The process was fast and orderly. We were in and out by 8:40 (including waiting the 15 minute observation period).

I received the very best care imaginable and treated the very best. Dr. Engstrom is the most awesome doctor ever as is doctor Stevens. Nothing is perfect but Vanderbilt hospital is close to perfect. Thanks to the ones that take care of me. You all are a blessing 🙏. …
Elizabeth Burkhart
Best hospital ever in the state of Tennessee. They are on the ball always. Never had a long time to wait. I will always trust them with my and my family's life as long as I live on this Earth 🌎🌍. …
Shea renée Lane (sheady)
This place is absolutely the best. When it comes to setting the bar thay are the leader. From the process to the staff and everything in between. The surgery ctr nurses and quality of the doctors are very calming and their experience and compassion is five star. God bless you all in the work and services you provide.

I want to say 1st and foremost thank you!
My mother was in the hospital for 8 days in east TN with covid19. Your research team tried a drug on many and this one particular drug was sent to the hospital for her and 2 days later she was getting out! Thank you for the knowledgeable Dr's and research team that you provide. My family and I are grateful!

I've had a hell of a month, and I owe Vanderbilt my life.
I have aortic stenosis caused by a bicuspid aortic valve. Up until August 19th, I was also pregnant. In my second trimester, it was determined that my stenosis had become extremely severe, and I was told to keep an eye on any symptoms that came up.
On august 10th, I went to my local ER for chest pain and tightness, where my symptoms were dismissed as being pregnancy related, and was sent home after ~3 hours with instructions to follow up with my OB. Instead, I reached out to my cardiologist, Dr Damp, who wanted to see me ASAP. I went to see her that Thursday, during which she determined that I should go to the main campus immediately.
While I was there I ultimately had a c-section (with a cardiology team ready and on standby in case something went wrong, as I was now a very high risk pregnancy), followed by balloon valvuloplasty for my valve just a week ago. Thankfully, both surgeries went better than we could have hoped, and I'm recovering well.
Everyone I talked to in Labor and Delivery, the cardiovascular ICU, and the children's hospital were great and sympathetic. They were also extremely knowledgeable and able to communicate information to me without talking down to me or leaving information out. The fact that the cardiology team ultimately figured out a way to prolong the functioning of my valve AND performed the valvuloplasty well enough that I have extremely minimal backflow and at LEAST a few more years before I have to get open chest surgery is something I will be forever grateful for.
My experience was quite literally life-changing and overwhelmingly positive.
Alex Bohnert
I came in for the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine today and was blown away by how easy it was. I’ve heard of so many people waiting in long lines for the vaccine, but this was faster than my yearly flu shot at the neighborhood drug store. Your staff is doing an amazing job! Thanks VUMC!
April Huie
Vanderbilt provides the best care! Our family does not trust any other facility because teaching hospitals have more experience with difficult cases. The Heart Failure team is AMAZING! Thanks for caring for my mom. She loved you all!

I came in short of breathe and scared. I had to leave my job of 31 years because of health problems and trying to get my social security disability approved. I kept putting off my problems thinking they were minor issues. But when I couldn't walk 2 foot with out gasping for breath I knew something was wrong. They took me in ran tests on me and discovered I had 3 blood clots in my lungs. They got me on the correct medicine and were really good to me. They are helping me with my meds and my fight for my disability. The nursing staff and doctors are top knotch. I couldnt ask for a better support system thank you. For saving my life.

I have had numerous surgeries done at this hospital surgery center. They are THE Best !! Kind , caring , compassionate staff. Who could want anything more ? And , if you need plastic Surgery, Dr J Blair Summitt is your Dr. he is awesome !! 10 Star.
Burt Williams
My mother has undergone surgery here in 2018 and now is back for follow ups. She has had consistently excellent care for her cancer. We are great full to the doctors and staff. I highly recommend Vanderbilt Medical Center!
joshua holloway
I had a car wreck in 2015. The Dr. I had took very good care of me going above & beyond to help me. Even with the idea that he see 50 or so people on a clinical visit day when he walk in your room he treated you as if you was the only one in building. He even call me at home 3 or 4 time to check on me & give me update from test and thing. I had 15-18 surgery in a little over 5 months. Every time the orthopedic round Wing staff took care of me very well I can not say enough good thing about them
Christina Gibson
This is the worst hospital ever. They do surgery on things that weren't an issue. My step mom had to wait 9 hours for surgery scheduled at 2:30 p.m. They did not address the problem and tore her small intestine in the process. I hope someone sues them until they have no facility. Always go to St. Thomas Midtown if you want quality service. She has been waiting in a recovery room for over 12 hours after her wait for 7 hours for surgery. They did the same thing to my grandmother, over medicated and said she is old. Pathetic
John Perry
My wife recently had a second knee replacement here. She had a bad reaction to the pain meds and the staff worked hard on finding a solution. The medical students are great and the medical staff has a lot of patience and empathy
Four stars due to the lack of clear directions on the signs. It is hard to find anything.

My stepmom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the early 2000's. and has been cancer free since her surgery at Vanderbilt..yes, I said "pancreatic" and yes , I said cancer free..for about 15 years now........ I myself was diagnosed with medullary thyroid cancer in December 2014 and have been cancer free since my surgery in March of 2015..the staff is top notch, and the doctors are beyond compare. The surgeons..I can't sing enough praise for these blessed individuals that can go inside of our bodies, remove all the bad while maintaining the good. God bless them all.
Cal Roth
In 2017 your Triage unit saved my daughter's life. She was air lifted in after a motorcycle crash. Was there for 5 weeks. God bless this hospital and their staff. Best doctors and care staff anywhere. Period.
George Sinchak
I have been to the VA part of candy. I'm very pleased with the results from the doctor and the other stuff. My wife is in remission now for four years. And she was in Vanderbilt hospital for that. I will give move than five stars if I could.
emily “emmie” russell
My husband has stage 3 lung cancer. He has wonderful doctors in Johnson City , TN ,but Johnson city doesnt`t have the advanced technology to deal with his cancer like Vanderbilt has. Dr. Sally York and Dr. Erin Alexis Gillaspie are 2 of the most fantastic doctors I have had the pleasure of meeting in my life. My husband and I are Christians and we agree that God is going to work miracles through these 2 ladies to make my husband well again. Thank you and God bless. 10 STARS!
Leeann B Wallace
My mother has been a in and out of the hospital here since April 2014. She was diagnosed with cancer and had surgery the whole staff was great! Everytime she is here they treat her and her family with respect, the explain everything to where you can understand what is going and what to exspect! We are from Alabama and will continue to make this trip as many time as needed. If I'm ever in need of a great hospital will surely come to this one! Thanks for all your hard work and I hope that you continue to grow!
Precious Brooks
They were all okay but Allie in the ER was AWESOME! She went above and beyond to assure that I was as comfortable as possible. I have came across some nasty people in this profession but she is nothing like the horrible people I've dealt. It really made my heart smile while I was in the ER. I'm glad you guys hired her💕 5 🌟 for Allie! …

I really appreciate having such a wonderful place to go for medical issues. I was diagnosed Type 2 diabetic a few years back at age 51 and had an Anti- Gad 65 test to determine if I had Auto antibodies which would make the diagnosis for me as late onset Type 1. I did have Auto antibodies as the result so I should have been changed to a Type 1 but the Endocrineologist I had been going to refused to believe I could be type 1.
I kept getting worse and thinner so I changed doctors. I tried Vanderbilt and was ready for the same reaction saying I am a type 2. Right away after reviewing my medical record and blood test results I was diagnosed as type 1. They also spend time with patients, suggest medical treatment you should have done and really care about what you think, want and need! I never liked going to a doctor's office but now it's no problem! I will never switch from Vanderbilt unless my insurance does not cover that place. All office employees and doctors I have seen or spoken with are so kind and understanding.
Tom Christy
Dr. Matthew Resnick is my Urologist for 2 different types of cancers. He is the Best of the Best, has a great bed side manner and makes you feel very comfortable when explaining what he wants to do or the review of the test results. He really cares about his patients, has the most upbeat attitude that I have ever had for cancer treatment professionals. He makes you feel like there is hope, regardless where you are in the cycle of treatment or diagnosis. I would never leave his office for another Urologist.

Went into the hospital for a laparoscopic abdominal procedure and was to stay over night for observation. The pre-op and PACU staff was nice enough- no problems there. In the OR, I was absolutely treated like a slab of meat. Nobody made the effort to look at me, greet me or make any pleasantries whatsoever. I was transferred to the OR table, strapped down and the mask slapped over my face before I was even sedated. VERY unnerving to say the least. The day of discharge, I got home and got a good look at the three small incisions in my upper abdomen; two of the three were already showing infection (oozing green pus). Since the surgical dressings had not been touched since they were applied, it is obvious that the infection was acquired from a dirty OR. Required a visit to my PCP and a prescription. Within three days of discharge I was back at my PCP and was diagnosed with HAP (hospital acquired pneumonia); the direct result of a dirty facility. Long story short- I will definitely avoid Vandy in the future. I came out much, MUCH sicker than I went in.

I drove a friend to Vanderbilt University Hospital for consultation and after parking and needing directions to the proper clinic, I met J. Turner, assigned to direct traffic and pedestrian crossing, who was courteous, skilled and highly professional with her duties. A welcome presence when you're not familiar to the area and needing directions from a reliable source.

The entire staff was great front start to finish. I went to Vandy ER yesterday Jan 5 2018 around 130pm with what I knew were a few broken ribs & thinking my nose was broken too. While there after x-rays & cat scan learned that I had multiple facial fractures & would need facial surgery to correct it. Being a single daddy of a 3 yr old & also being from out of state. The staff allowed my son to accompany me the entire time. They made sure we had plenty water snacks etc. Around 1130pm even though potty trained my son peed on himself & the nurses went out there way to get him a change of pants socks etc due to me forgetting his bag in my vehicle. We were there from around 130pm 01/05/18 until around 730am 01/06/18 due to amount of test needed & specialist needed to be called in. However, again the entire staff was great & made us as comfortable as possible. I highly recommend Vanderbilt & will share my experience there as often as the topic comes up.

I stayed here with my aunt some years ago after she had a severe orthopedic injury and required surgery. Most the staff members in her unit were terrific, especially the nurses, doctors/Med Students and her Orthopedic surgeon.
Jane Vanderhorst
A family member had to go into the ER, and ended up with a 3-day hospital stay in TOBS. I was there for most of those days. The staff that provided care over those 3 days did a nice job. The PAs, nurses and care partners were caring, responsive, and helpful.
Michael Gorman
We found everyone extremely helpful, professional and friendly. The nurses, doctors, transport services, parking attendants and cafeteria workers could not have been better. All our appointments were on time. All the rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable. Free valet parking.
Annette Freetage
My father in law is here for a back surgery and we have had a great all around experience in the ICU and with the medical team. The waiting areas are comfortable and both the cafeteria and cafe are fantastic. I would definitely recommend Vanderbilt and suggest using the free valet parking.
Kenyon Floyd
Tried to get information on Vandy's available Covid-19 infusion treatment. It appears this 87% effective and free medical treatment to prevent hospitalization and death wants to be kept a secreat and not accessible for the masses.
I left the previous review earlier and after Vandys management heard of the issue they quickly addressed and ensured it will not happen to others. Great job Vandy for continuously improving the customer experience.
Rina Vaden
Top notch staff kind well informed and they never mind put things in terms you can understand.there's no other hospital that I would rather use in Nashville I've never been misdiagnosed and I've always been handled with the best care is if I was being treated by a friend. They are far above any of the other surrounding hospitals.
Erica Galbreath
A great place to see Diabetic and foot doctor's.. it is great all around. Love the people that work there always kind
laura davis

I have been a patient here several times. The ER is crazy busy and overall I would give it a 4 star rating. Inpatient would be a 5 star. My doctors and staff are top notch and very helpful. I would not go anywhere else.

I came into the er at Vanderbilt on Saturday may 12 2018. When I came in I was very sick I truly believe that I was dying and probably was. I have no insurance and no income. I had bee to the hospital in the town I live in (Lawrenceburg tn.) only to be told that if I could pay up front they could help me and that I had a hernia go home and deal with it. That was was on Feb 3 2018. I only got sicker and sicker my stomach got bigger and bigger untill I finally came to vandy. They ran the EXACT SAME TESTS that Lawrenceburg ran in there er vandy admitted me and told me it was NOT A HERNIA but was large mass attached to my ovaries. On Monday they removed the mass wich was the size of a basketball and did a complete hysterectomy. The doc said that the mass was filled with puss and that had it busted I would have died. I owe my life to the wonderful people at Vanderbilt I was treated like royalty by every single nurse and doctor I encountered. They are truly doing an amazing job there. I am grateful to have been a patient because they really did save my life when they could have easily turned me away. So THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU AT VANDERBUILT YOU ARE ALL AWESOME!!! THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE!! sincerely, Amelia Knuckles

Tonight was a very scary experience for me. Sister had huge head injury. Lots of blood lots of trauma. I was waiting to take turns with family members to visit and was so cold in waiting room so decided to walk up to next level. Officer Brown STOPPED me like it was a huge desk and then decided I had attitude because I asked why I could not go upstairs to warmer location. He belittled me and threatened me after I was already in a puddle of tears. When I asked what happened to kind voices he just said “I’ll kick you out if you give me attitude “. I’ve been in medical professional situations (can’t name them) my entire life and never felt less human compassion. Don’t go to this hospitals emergency room. There entrance desk and security have ZERO compassion if you are truly experiencing an emergency.
Dora Zaharias
I am beyond pleased with our experience at Vanderbilt. Every single person we encountered treated us with love, respect, and compassion. This will be our hospital of choice so long as we are in Nashville.
Phil Johnson
My wife had a hysterectomy, and it went well, except that there was some secondary nerve damage. I am certain that this is due to the fact that various trainees were involved in the operation. That's the downside to the Vanderbilt Hospital: The doctors are great but trainees are always involved and they cannot be as good as the doctors. So I always am hesitant to go to Vanderbilt Hospital.
Sean Peters
My wife went into labor and the staff here for the 3 days we were here were awesome!!! They treat the babies like their own!!! I couldn’t be more pleased how they make you feel like family!!! Best experience and thank you 4th floor!!!
Pam Owens
This is the best hospital in the state of TN! My daughter and 5 year old grandson have Glaucoma. Theirs is hereditary and very, very rare. My daughter is 32 and wasn't treated there but my grandson was. He was diagnosed by Dr. Karen Joos. She's the most caring. Understanding and knowledgeable person I've met that treats people with thus eye dosease.
Brian Davidson
I have been in the care of this organization a couple of times and they have performed their job at that highest of standards. The only complaint is they do not allow your children in the ER to see you. Keep up the good work Vandy!
Sheryl Jelks
The staff on 5th floor was so nice to my mother. They r caring people the Doctors there was all about getting my mother the right care she needed getting her on the right meds. I would like to thank all staff members for what they do .Doctors, Nurses, Housekeepers , Dietary for luv u gave to me and my mother Thanks

They have excellent nurses ....I would know about doctors ...while I was in intensive care I never once actually saw a doctor .. The nurses would take pictures on an iPad and thara how the doctor treated me I was in the burn unit ....I think we could have a great burn u it here at U T hospital in Knoxville Tn ....I believe the doctorsthere could do what they did in nashvillecauae when it first happened that's where I went and I saw a doctor and theytreatednejustgreat and at vandwrbuilt big nameijuatreally expected more from them . there was no getting to know the doctor treating you ....so distant....no personalizationbetween doctor and patience . I'm sure they earned therename of being a great hospitalsomehow cause my granddaughter went to a doctors office thereabdthetwere alright withherbut her mom ....my daughterwentthere for the same reason years agoieven remember the doctors name after all these years and he was so cold and spent like10minutes with us ......we drove almost4 hrs in the darknotknowing nothing about Nashville for him to say 5 words to us and sending us on our way the doctor she saw in knoxville was absolutely wonderful it's just I believe the doctors need to know us and we them ....especially before you go home to know your the type of person who will follow the regimine ....I don't see how you can treat someone without knowing a little about them . I just didn't have a good experience ....twice .... But othersmayhave wonderful experiences and have great doctors and maybe I just was unlucky and got uncaring doctors ....twice but I'll say the nurses who really did take care of me were wonderful I give them 5 plus stars but I'm a truthful person and I'll not lie and this was MY experience . Thank You

I have two serious issues and the Docs and staff are outstanding. My Healthcare team works together to make sure all aspects of my health needs are fullfilled. Dr. Andre Churchwell, my cardiologist is absolutely the best! My network of Dr's include Dr Angel, my PC the best, Dr Kanagasundrum, outstanding electrician, Joe Freddie is a whiz plumber and Dr Duke Herrell, urologist wonderful. So many more of nursing staff, PA'S even food service, housekeeping, transport, and valets. I truly am blessed that I was referred to this medical center. Thank you!
Hayes
Came for a 3pm appt, didn't get called back till 340pm. 4pm, no doctor in sight. These offices don't respect patient time anymore. It is only about how many people they can cram in and how much money that equals. The 3 stars are for the competent, kind staff dealing with shuffling too many appointments through.
*This is for the office in Clarksville, TN, just off Warfield Blvd

I go to Columbia to Vanderbilt Heart to Janice Vinson. She prescribes Eliquis for me. I’m in the donut hole now and can’t pay for it. I ask the Dr. for samples and she said Vanderbilt would not let them do this. Yet Vanderbilt sent me several letters asking me to put them in my Will. What do you thank I should do.
Paula Rice
Always helpful & thorough. Always answer questions in a timely manner & return phone calls. Doesn’t hurt that my heart transplant doctor (head of program) from UCH Denver, CO is now my doctor here.
Jessica Phelps
I have to go there every 6 months for my esophagus, so when I swallow the food or drink will go down. The best doctor's and nursing staff are so great. Ithink I will stick with this one. I don't see me going anywhere else.
Ashley McMahan
My mother had major gastric surgery while out of the country. Upon return she became very sick and we took her to Vanderbilt Emergency Room. They determined right away that she was gravely ill and would die within a matter of hours without immediate surgical intervention. Dr. Williams and his team saved her life. I thank God that we went to Vanderbilt.
Gwen Canfield
Could not have asked for more from the moment we walked in. From admitting to surgery, recovery to the 9th floor we were confident that my husbands’ recovery was the top priority. Our heartfelt thanks to all for the wonderful care!
david Livingston
I had a double lung transplant 4-16-13
No hospital can hold a candle to this facility. Drs fantastic. Staff even more fantastic. My life has been touched by thoracic. Pulmonology. Radiology hematology. X-ray. Psychiatric adimssions. Er. There is almost know one who hasn't touch my life.
Laura Domingue-Parker
My pc Dr Carew is the best doctor I've had in a long time, and he is younger than my kids!! But his way of working with you about your health and explaining everything is excellent.
Pam Worles
Great staff. Wonderful experience all around from the first day my husband was seen until now. Doctors and nurses love them. We have our favorites but all are thorough!
Timothy Fulton
This place at Vanderbilt is a great training tool for people who want to work. I was an intern at Project SEARCH class of 2017. Thank you Project SEARCH for giving me the tools to find a job I really like. NHC in Springfield

As with any healthcare facility, be a good patient, ask questions, be kind to all staff, and know how fortunate we are to have this level of care available to us. I have used Vanderbilt Health for all of my healthcare needs for a decade.
James Rowland
My father was two weeks from dying after a year of suffering and doctors ignoring his condition. After three days visiting doctors here he went from preparing to die to receiving a liver transplant in less than a week. The doctors here are absolutely AMAZING
Ashley Springs
Great nurse's and doctors. Only thing i dont like is their environmental service's. Shouldnt have to hunt someone down just to get a room cleaned. Especially when its your own family members room.
Debby Hood
Real doctors, an emergency room that understands what an emergency is, thorough examination. Top notch staff. The best of the best.
if you go to another hospital when you're really sick, you'll wind up here eventually, so save yourself the time & trouble & just come here to begin with.
Cristy Workman
I was in the hospital for an open heart surgery and everyone of the staff were so nice, I loved it there. I only have one complaint. When I was released I waited 30 minutes to get a wheelchair but never received it.
Wendi Nicole Johnson
Greatest place in the world if you have a chronic disease or serious conditions that need specialists. But internal medicine is not amazing. You can't get an appointment with a normal doctor. You have to go with a resident who looks at you like a text book.... Dr. Spain and Dr. Clark are both great, though.
pamela kolozsvary
Vanderbilt, and it’s oncology team have kept me alive for 12 years - with a diagnosis of incurable brain cancer. They are my hero’s, and I never leave there without a sense of hope. I find the 8 hour drive from Indiana to be totally worth it. My healthcare team at Vandy is the best!
jean johnson
The best hospital I've ever been to. I'm very grateful, they saved my husbands life ( Roger Mims) on more than one occasion. God bless Drs. Derrick Moore, Fissel, and McKinnea and their associates.
ADE BASHORUN
You will wait!!!! I don’t know if this is due to covid or the service is just so good that you have to WAIT until your injury disappears or worsens. Staff is extremely nice & I waited over 7hours despite having an emergency. YOU WILL WAIT!!!
Mary Anne Malone
The doctors and nurses are helpful and explain what is going on. The pharmacy doesn't take long and the employees are always friendly and helpful.
Suzanne Paquette (SuzTheAdviceLady)
Great hospital. Doc's, Nurses and all the staff medical and mon medical are top notch. 💎💎💎 Love all of you from top to bottom.
BUT, however, the food for the patients; thumbs down 👎. Sickening. Sorry but it is true. …
Maverick Baker
Great doctors and great staff...just dont plan on getting a room too quickly while in recovery. Taken longer than 8 hours all three times I've been here...currently waiting now actually.
Teresa Hutchings
My 17 year old was diagnosed with a rare colon cancer, and sent here. Dr. Cone examined him and confirmed diagnosis one day, and did surgery the next, saving his life.
Ton Ray
Thankful for Vanderbilt Hospital. This Hospital is on a different level than most Hospitals. Thank you for the excellent care provided to my family and friends on many different occasions.
T K
Don’t be more than 15 min late for your appointment or you’re charged your co-pay and have to reschedule.....BUT Heaven Forbid you sit in the waiting room, 45 min after your scheduled appointment time (plus I was 20 min early), and they are just “running a little behind!”
Crystal Craig
Have taken excellent care of my brother who has multiple health issues. They travel 4 hrs to receive world class care. God bless them all.

Been going to the cardiovascular departments for 25+ years and they are great. All my doctors and their staff are amazing. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

I can not brag enough on Trama 10 North. Words can't not explain how much you guys mean to me and my family. The dedication and care you provided my mother was absolutely outstanding. Thank you all so very much.

Don't know what I would have done without them, I was very sick with a blood infection {sepicima). I'm real sure I would have died if they wouldn't have done all that they did. God bless all the doctors and nurses.
Darlene Rodas
I want to thank the nurses that where always checking on me and everything was good apart from the student nurses I didn’t know I was going to have they where not the best

I was here to see my "mom" and the valet parking was great. I was able to get up to see her sooner because I wasn't wandering around trying to find a parking place on my own.
Heather Jernigan
I dont have ,any mrmories being here but I am forever grateful they saved my life was in and out the year of 2017 with ARDS and all sorts of things and though I do not like hospitals and I am not a patient person, snd was probably a difficult patient to say the least but they did not give up on me I want to thank GOD and all the doctors and nurses who worked together in saving my life

2 and 1/2 years ago I took my son which was only 6 months old to have three surgeries done in one and I had the best experience possible i couldn't be any happier but the reason for only three star's is that my youngest son had to be put in hospital so I loaded my son up and took him 3 hrs away to Nashville checked in at ER and the doctor was rude the nurses were rude and I will never be back to the ER for any reason
