I LOVE this place. I have been coming here for haircuts by Maritza for over a year now, and she is always, always amazing. On my first visit I was obviously pretty stressed out (haircuts used to make me anxious, but not anymore!), and she was so patient and considerate and such a good listener - she asked questions to clarify what I wanted, and checked in with me throughout the appointment, and it turned out amazing! I got a short, layered, pixie cut, with some fun details, which I think I could happily wear for the rest of my life. I mentioned that I like to keep my hair pretty low maintenance, and Maritza cut in in a style that doesn't need any styling or product to look just right. It not only looks super sharp and flattering when it's freshly cut, but it grows out beautifully, so I can go four or five months between appointments, and enjoy a shaggier look while still feeling confident that it looks good. And when it's time to get it cut I just show up at Vain, knowing that I'll get to spend an hour chatting with Maritza, and leave with a haircut that not only makes me look good, but makes me feel like the best version of myself. (Also, everyone else I've interacted with in the salon has always been lovely - and they are good about sending timely appointment reminders, which, as a forgetful person, I appreciate!)

Amazinggg:) Had a cut with Maritza. Had a loose idea of the vibe I wanted but no real vision for the cut; came in for a consult and she had some lovely ideas and a super clear vision that aligned perfectly with what I wanted. Came back shortly after and she did a lovely job on the cut. It was definitely a departure for my usual style but I'm very happy with it. Also helped me immensely with how to keep my hair healthy, as that's something I struggle with, and had some great product recommendations. This was my first professional haircut in years (doing it myself for a long time) and I'm so glad I went to Maritza!! Very friendly and sunny soul too ^_^ They do updates on bangs or whatever for $25 as well, which I know a good chunk of salons do but it's a good deal and nice to have a clearly stated policy on it. :)

My sister came home early this year with her best haircut in our shared lifetimes, re-living a discussion about batman that she'd had with her stylist, Maritza, and how on top of everything else she had la virgen at her station which made her feel like she was somewhere cozy back home. I can now confidently second her opinion that Maritza is amazing, as a skilled professional and a person. She wasn't just about cutting my hair for that one day - she made a plan so that my cut would work for me and my life, and the time scale we talked about. (At first I spoke rashly about just chopping everything off, and am grateful today that she was honest (and right!) in suggesting an alternative approach.) What more can you ask? But, when I told her during the appointment about a high-stakes grad school meeting I had coming up, she insisted on scheduling a quick styling right before, even though it would be her day off(!!). Maritza made me look amazing and buoyed my spirits with her kindness, generosity and humor- and the meeting went about as well as it possibly could have! Thanks a billion!

Maritza is an excellent stylist!. I went to VAIN for the first time and I received excellent service. This was my first haircut in nearly a year due to COVID and I'll admit I was less than clear about what I wanted. Maritza was an excellent listener, made sense of what I really wanted (short, wash and wear, but modern) and gave me a great cut. I also want to highlight her candor and honesty. I voiced interest in a radical change to my hair, and while she was supportive, she clearly delineated all that would be required. She helped me realize that it would not be a great fit for me, and I appreciate that she took who I am into her advice, and did not try and guide me into more expensive services. I will definitely be returning! 10 out of 5 stars!

Nyla is such a sweet upbeat stylist. Had my consultation and can't wait to get my hair dyed. I'll update this review after that. Edit and update: my hair is absolutely amazing now! Look look! Everyone is so friendly and talented and I would recommend asking for some strands of glittery ribbon into your hair!

I came in for a pretty tough color correction(going semi at home color brown to blonde).My beautiful stylist was Amirah. I chose this wonderful salon because I noticed they do insane colors and I knew they these wonderful stylists were pros and bleaching was their thing. She was able to get my hair to a level 7/8 and without insane damage. I already had significant damage but she was able to pick through old highlights to save my hair. The tone is perfect for my skin tone. Hopefully a few more sessions and I’ll be where I want to be. Definitely coming back, you have a very happy customer for as long as Im I’m Seattle!

We talked about what I was hoping for, and looked at some pictures, and because she was such a good listener, I felt totally confident that she understood me - and she really did. The haircut I got is super cute, and it's also totally suited to how I like to style my hair, and designed to grow out well too. It's been a long time since I felt this pretty!

Few days back, I went for a haircut with Lisa. I have 3b/3c type curl with textured hair. She was exceptional! She understood my requirements very well. I was confused if I should get bangs but she confidently analyzed the type of haircut I was talking about and if that would suit me and I went for it! This was the first time I got bangs and was very nervous but I love it and its was an amazing experience! I have received sooo many compliments! I am so happy! Lisa also provided tips to style the curls and maintain them. She is a curl guru and I think I have just found the person with whom I will get my hair treatments done! The salon followed COVID guidelines, everyone had mask on and very few clients being treated at the same time which made me feel comfortable to spend about two hours are the salon. Thank you so much VAIN and Lisa! You just made the start of new year extra special! :)

3 stars because the stylist was so nice...2 stars for the cut. It’s better than a cheap chain salon, but not much—and DEFINITELY not worth $150. I REALLY want to love my hair. My stylist was extremely nice and I hate saying anything negative, BUT she really didn’t know what to do with curly hair. They do have folks that give great curly hair cuts, but make sure you check the site and see who specializes in it—don’t trust the receptionists or amount of time the stylist has worked there. I know I can go back and have it touched up, but if the cut looks this bad during round 1, I’m not sure how the same stylist can fix it. I scheduled an appointment with another salon...fingers crossed!

Elizabeth was amazing!! She did an awesome balayage and cut for me and I would definitely return to her. The only thing that was a bummer was I booked it online and the price was waaay off what it was in store so be careful booking online/check in before so ya really know how much you’re gonna spend! Would be nice if they could be on top of making sure everything online is updated. Definitely left me frazzled leaving but Elizabeth was still so great and I had a great experience before leaving and I couldn’t take a star away just for that!

I have wanted dreadlocks for several years but I didn't want to wait to grow my hair out and do it the natural way. I started researching and found Siddal from Vain salon. We met for a brief but thorough consultation and made the decided to dread my hair and add dread extensions. I gave her an idea of the look I was going for and the colors I wanted to use and she hit the nail on the head! She spent time with me corresponding back and forth through emails and answering my endless questions. My appointment lasted about 9 hours and not once did I feel bored or uncomfortable. She has a lovely personality and her talent is beyond anything I could have expected. This was a huge change in my looks and she understood the depth of that. This was my very first time here and I had the best experience at a salon ever. Alise - She understood the kind of A line Bob I wanted pretty quickly, she had a whole set of pictures actually to show the different kinds to make sure I get what I want. And after that, I got so engrossed in chit chatting with her (mind you, not small talk but good conversation about so many things) that I never realized when she was done and I looked completely and majorly transformed. I've been getting the same cut for a while now but I was happiest this time, she's such a pro and so sweet at the same time. I think I've found my permanent stylist :)

This place is amazing. My stylist is that magic combination of good at understanding what I'm asking for, but not letting me ask for something that wouldn't really work. Plus, each cut comes with a touch up trim within a month, which, at least for me, makes this place pretty damn affordable.

I've loved and trusted Vain for gorgeous cuts and color for 12 years, but yesterday was the icing on the cake. My daughter had finally admitted (through panicked sobs) she had a 4"x2" unintentional dreadlock close to her scalp (ie, not "just a bun"). She has some trauma involving her hair, so the issue was touchy. I had no hope that her hair could be salvaged, and thought for sure she'd need to get at least an undercut. I wanted it done where cool edgy cuts are done the best, so I took her to Vain on 1st. It was a miracle, but Kelly (and a second awesome woman) got her 3-foot long hair loosened and restored!! Dreadlocks (putting in and taking out) are one of Kelly's many specialities. All the staff were sympathetic, supportive, encouraging, confident, and professional; especially Kelly!! You all forever have my gratitude, my daughter's affection, and our business. <3

I go to Alise every 3 months, and she always leaves me looking and feeling fabulous. The space and staff are fun, it's a convenient location downtown, and my hair always feels stellar.

I have gotten my brows waxed by others in the area, but they made my brows look basic and boring, whereas Belinda gave them shape that added personality to my face. Well, unless you’ve scheduled VAIN’s signature touch-up trim, in which case the promise of a free haircut will keep you coming back. It’s that good. Long story short, VAIN has a team of Seattle’s best barbers and stylists, a handful of studio rentals, a damn good curation of local art and gifts, and the kind of effortless ambience most DT boutiques could only dream of. The tourists don’t even know.
