Bonita was very friendly and fun. The stylists were great to work with. My only complaint would be the price. They did not list prices on their website. I was getting my daughters hair done and was shocked at the $450 price for box braids. However we had the appointment made and had driven from st. Cloud so i couldn't disappoint my daughter by walking out. Most places charge $150-$200 for the same service. Time will tell if it was worth it.

Bonitas is amazing! I went to Kemi for my daughter first and her hair came out so well I had to book an appointment for myself. She lets you know the prices upfront and was so professional. Not to mention she’s really kind…we were chatting like old friends! I’ll definitely return and highly recommend Bonita’s Extensions.

Went in for small, long box braids (20 inch) on really short hair (2-4 inch) and I couldn't be happier! As mentioned in other reviews, it can be a bit pricey, but it is well worth the price for the time and effort these women put into their clients' hair and wellbeing while in the shop. For one thing, the hair is provided, which was a blessing for someone who 1) has extremely dense hair per square inch, and 2) doesn't know a whole lot about where and how to buy hair in the Twin Cities. I could not be more grateful for how my hair turned out and for how well I was taken care of. I'm a bit shy and awkward, but I felt totally at ease at Bonita's; the atmosphere is fun and relaxed (fun conversation, movie/music in the background, freedom to just read/listen to music/vibe if you want, etc.), and the stylists are extremely friendly and very attentive. They repeatedly checked in with me about how I was feeling pain-wise, if I needed anything (offered me free food and drink several times!), and if the hair was turning out how I wanted. Very early in the braiding, some of the braids turned out a little longer than I initially wanted (they were turning out ~24in I think) but my stylist brought it up right away, genuinely offered several times to redo it to the original length, and didn't charge me extra when I said the new length was okay and that I actually really liked it for the rest of the braids. I say this to highlight how attentive and thorough these stylists are, not in any way as a complaint - I was totally cool with it and I'm so happy now that it's all done. Really, the hair turned out great - fantastic parting, secure/tight braiding, the size I wanted, etc. - and I couldn't be happier. For other context, this is my second time getting braids at Bonitas. I was solidly sold after my first visit just before the pandemic in late 2019/early 2020. I've always struggled with my hair as a mixed person growing up in a small rural town (not Minnesota). When I came in the first time, I was very discouraged to be as old as I was and so unknowledgeable about my own hair and the process of doing it. My stylist was very encouraging and kind, calling me and my hair "blessed" - the nicest thing a haircare professional has ever said to me.

Kemi and everyone at Bonita’s were so fantastic! I got a full sew-in and it turned out great! I struggle with hair loss and Kemi worked a miracle! I now have a full head of hair and have had a wonderful experience to go along with it. The only hiccup that occurred was because the company that makes the hair sent the wrong color, but Kemi made sure to keep me in the loop and got the correct color shipped in right away. I love my hair and will definitely be returning!

I got my hair done last Monday here by two women. They both did a really good job and i’m really really happy with how my hair turned out. They made sure I was comfortable and okay with how they wer doing my hair, although they’re the professionals❤️❤️❤️❤️. Bonitas Extensions and braids is the best place to go and take your state braiding and sanitation license class. The owner Kemi is very informative and she has over 10 years in the Education and services aspect of the salon business. I learn so much in my 30hrs class and now I am a licensed stylist. The class is very affordable and it is the best investment. The salon is very clean and welcoming, I was able to see the insider way of conducting business while I was in my class. Maybe I just had a bad experience, when I first walked in everything seemed ok but then the owner started yelling at me and being rude to me at first because she was trying to measure me to see how long i wanted my box braids and I guess she was getting irritated because I was pointing to my waist instead of to the measuring tape, then she started completely flipping out because I was confused about the price since she told me that I have to come in to get an exact price. I'm appreciative because she did work with me on the price but for what I still ended up paying I strongly believe I could have went elsewhere for a more professional outcome. Everyone else around me says it it could look better.

This is an amazing business! Kemi does a fantastic job at hair extensions and is very pleasant, friendly, and professional to work with as her customer. I've been coming here now for the past 3 years. Kemi and her team are always outgoing and friendly and they do a good job with my hair. I literally can fall asleep so easily. But, don't take my word for it if you're tender headed because I am not. I trust them with my hair always. They are a bit pricey, but that comes with the quality of service. As soon as I walked in I was greeted. The shop was so beautiful. It was nicely clean. The shop owner even made my kids feel very welcome. The other women who also braid hair was a joy to be around they interacted with not only their clients but other clients that was also begin served as well. I went in with with washed hair that was all over my head and came out with the most beautiful set of boxed braids (also for a great price). Best braid shop in the Twin Cities! These women are talented and know what they are doing! I got my box braids done here and they came out exactly like the picture. The parts are neat and the braids are consistent from the bottom to the top. I’ll definitely be coming back here. They are also very friendly. I spent so much time laughing that the time flew by. I went...the owner was actually moving that day but she came in to do my hair. she is a perfectionist...she consulted with me and did a wonderful job explaining the procedure. I was planning on coloring my hair extensions but I liked the dark hair! this review is three weeks late but i am loving it! I can't say enough about Bonita's!!! I've only been there twice, but both times they took such great care of me! My first time there was for a wedding. I was a groomsman, and hadn't had any loc maintenance done in quite a while! I also have a little bit of a bald spot. I was looking for some maintenance, some extensions, and a style that wouldn't look like I was trying to hide my patch too hard. I called on Thursday evening and got in on Friday afternoon. They did an amazing job! The second time was for my own wedding. I booked an appointment online on Thursday and got an appointment on Friday. Kemi did such an incredible job!! I took my 8 year old child to this salon, firstly it was a very clean salon and a kid friendly environment. Secondly , I was told to leave my child and carry on with my day and I will be called once she was done. Which I did, because of the reception of the staffs at this salon. Thirdly, her hair look perfectly done and she told me they gave her hot chocolate and chicken while she was getting her hair done. Having said all this, Bonita's extensions and braids is for certain best salon in Minneapolis for going above and beyond call of duty. Now did i say they have affordable prices.

I just moved to the area a few months ago and finding someone to do my hair was a struggle. I found Bonitas on Google and Yelp and seeing so many reviews made me feel comfortable enough to go. The women who did my hair were phenomenal and did exactly what I asked. The service was great and they even provided lunch! I know some women worry about being charged too much and I am not sure if I overpaid or not (I don't get my hair done often) but honestly I don't even care. It was worth every penny and I'll gladly pay for excellent service like I received here! Go check it out!!

Both ladies that braided my hair were great and fast. I got Senegalese twist and I have been getting complaints non stop on them. it took them about 4 hours to braid my hair when it goes to about my butt. Kimmie the owner was teaching a hair class and she is very knowledgable about hair, which I loved listening to. I decently plan on going back!

Getting extensions at Bonitas was hands down the best hair braiding experience I have ever had, and I have been to many shops over the years. The staff was professional, communicative, and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the shop was tidy. This is unheard of at braiding shops! Prices are a bit higher than I am used to paying, but fair given the attention to detail and finishing touches they provide. I will definitely be coming back. Ask for Hawa, she's fantastic!

I have been to Bonitas Extensions and Braids twice and seen Kemi & Joyce. The first time for my Dreadlocks install and the second for a re-twist style. My hair turned out incredible and my experience with these ladies and this salon have been nothing but great. I went to Bonitas for the first time to have permanent loc extensions installed this week, and I can honestly say this was the best salon experience I've ever had. Very organized, they book appointments online and stick to them. Kimmie and her staff were gracious, friendly, informative, honest and upfront from the beginning. I felt so at home, and all of the women worked tirelessly and nonstop until the 10.5 hour installation was done. She also provided me with tea, food and snacks. Amazing service! I found Bonita’s by doing a Google search, so was a little nervous but I left beyond satisfied. I let Kemi know I had a flight to catch that same night. Instead of getting annoyed (because she easily could have or said she couldn’t do it) she treated me like VIP and got the job done along with another girl in 4 hours. I had a great experience with Bonitas. I came in as a walkin because I got stood up by GiGis Super Braiding Factory in Minneapolis. I called and talked to Kemi and she was so sweet and mannerly. She was able to get me in that day and actually a couple hours earlier than she stated. The salon was lovely and very CLEAN and was playing the best old school jams ever! Me and my stylist were singing like a choir! Lol It was relaxing and they had complimentary snacks! Ive never had this type of service in a braiding salon. My hair was whipped and worth the money! I love going to this place! I get 14,16,18,20 inches of Indian virgin hair. It's grade 8 hair and very good quality, the hair is able to be different colors and it has great luster. You are also able to reuse the hair up to a year if you take good care of it. The salon is also a comfortable and friendly environment with great service. When I say the service here goes above and beyond I mean it. Everyone was friendly and genuinely interested in getting to know the clients. Everyone was offered tea, water, coffee and snacks. Not only do you get license to do unregulated services in the state of Minnesota in Just 3days. She is a total blessing. Very friendly staff...braiding was done start to finish in 3 hours. My only complaint was that I was quoted $160 for shoulder length. I brought $200 cash, assuming I would tip 20%. I was then told it would be $190. Needless to say, I walked out with no cash left. Not upset at all because the service was good and my hair looked beautiful, just bummed I wasnt able to tip the ladies directly.

The last time not so great the hair texture that was used had changed from the first 2 times she did my hair the first time the hair was nice,pretty and silky soft,the last time it was so ruff and wouldnt stay curled. and with in the week my braids started to unravel I had to keep braiding them back up MYSELF. I am a licensed hairstylist so it's nice when I find other top stylist to come to. I do everything but braids, but I love wearing them so I stumbled across bonitas doing a online search for good braid shops. Dora and another stylist did my braids, start to finish 4.5 hours and I got pretty small braids. I like that they clean their supplies right away, I seen them go barbicide the combs! 👌🏾 which is a big deal in salons and braids shops, something that many don't do. I have had my braids in for a month now and forgot about giving a review until I sat down today thinking of my next style and color. Definitely coming back here again, will be making my next appointment in two weeks. 💆🏾

I was in town, and needed a hairdresser. I didn't know where to go so I just Google. It's a plus that you can schedule and appointment online. She was flexible with her schedule in order to try to fit me in. I went in for a touch up, and she did it correctly. She made sure my hair was protected before, during, and after. I was a little confused about the pricing, it was very a la carte, which is a bit confusing if it's not listed on a wall or something to review. She gave me Christmas gift, which was nice. This is a very clean and well put together shop one of the best looking braiding shops I have been to thus far in MN compared to other places I have been too. The owner is very respectable and professional and the employees are good at what they do. A few things that can be addressed are, appointments: I scheduled an appointment for 10am and was on-time but had to wait 30mins for the person who I was scheduled with to do my hair now if it was known that they were unable to arrive by 10 then my appointment should of not been set for 10am since I am on a tight schedule, secondly the pricing is very unclear and a bit high for certain styles that are simple. Previously I came in for a touch up for a style I paid 250 and called to check what the cost would be to re-braid my sides I was informed the starting cost would be about 65 but after going and getting it done I was charged 120 not was I budgeted or expected now if I only brought 65 then there would of been a problem because pricing wasnt clear with all persons.. Despite my overall approval of the salon, employees, and even my braids (PHOTO POSTED IN GALLERY) I can't overlook the fact that it took 8 hours to do a style that normally takes 4 hours especially with 2 braiders. I was supposed have 2 braiders working simultaneously. Instead they both worked separately and it took all day LITERALLY. It also took my braider a while to grasp the size I wanted but eventually she got the hang if it and hooked me up........ I LOVE the customer service of this shop. Across the board, everyone was focused on accommodating me and making feel as comfortable as possible. The COMPLIMENTARY breakfast/lunch was a great perk to getting my hair done here and they allowed me to choose whatever I wanted (within $10) GREAT DEAL. Lastly my hair looks neat and cohesive with all of the braids matching.... though it took my braider a while to get the size right. I definitely recommend my friends go here. In fact, my roommate will try them next week. Just make sure you don't make any important plans right after your appointment. I missed my appointment with my personal trainer :-(

Kemi did an amazing job that exceeded my expectations. Her skill set and talents are exceptional! The salon was small and quaint, yet had a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
