I visited Dr. S. Elizabeth Whitmore at the Beatrice Keller clinic in Sun City West, AZ for my annual full body skin checkup on November 2, 2022. This was my second visit to the clinic, and my first with Dr Whitmore. My entire experience from checkin to checkout was very pleasant and without delays or long wait times. The entire staff from the front desk to the medical assistants were a delight to interact with- efficient, professional, and friendly. Dr. Whitmore is my ideal doctor; knowlegeable, thorough, highly communicative, warm and caring. She even went the extra mile and called me personally after she finished her patient load for the day to discuss her diagnosis and to make sure that I understood what my next steps needed to be. Living here in the intense sun of the Atizona desert, I am so happy to have her helping me care for my skin.

This was my first visit, the office staff was very good. However I was not impressed with Dr. Elizabeth Whitmore. I came for help with female pattern hair loss. She basically lectured me that it comes with age and I just had to accept that. Dismissive of new treatments in that area. Was not knowledgeable in new developments and unwilling to use them. Referred me to a nurse practitioner or to my family doctor. Could not refer me to another dermatologist who was more on the cutting edge of new developments. Very disappointed in her attitude that my hair loss did not need treatment.

I felt very comfortable and felt I was in good hands. I have to return for a biopsy and was called back on the same day of my visit to schedule this appointment which is scheduled within 3 days of my initial visit! I’m impressed I was given such a quick appointment as I know how far out they’re booked. I was pleased that I was made a priority! I will see Dr. Zell for the biopsy in a couple of days. What a difference compared to typical visit to a doctor. This was my first time seeing Dr Huls. Appointment was right on schedule. Then about a 5 minute wait in the examination room. This was my last visit with Dr Rita George.She told me she was retiring and suggested another Doctor to be dermatology doctor for my next visit. Anyway we got down to business...she examined my body soles and chest and back for signs of eczema and even gave me a shot of liquid nitrogen for precancers on my head.After the treatment we talked about other things not having to medicine and she said in parting See You At Costco I wish I could remain her friend now that I am no longer her patient. Dr. Whitmore also explained the right choice of sunscreen for my granddaughter who is only six and very fair skin, she was not even there as a patient but it was important enough to Dr. Whitmore to explain what can protect these babies better. I really liked Dr Rita George. I thought she was thorough in her examination. I would have given the practice a 5-star, however, I felt some improvement could have been made in the waiting room and front desk. It was so crowded with people trying to get into the office, I had to wait outside for 10 minutes. When I got to the front desk, it was so open and close to the patients seated, that all information discussed could be heard by everyone. HIPPA was not followed because of how small their waiting room was. There were so many people in the waiting room, due to COVID19, I know one woman seated across from me seemed really uncomfortable, as I did. Please remodel your waiting room to be HIPPA compliant.

I don't know how to tell if a dermatologist is great at their job or not, but I can tell you about my experience. This was my 4th visit to the Beatrice Keller clinic and my second visit with Dr. George. The lady at the counter was nice, and had a sense of humor (the guy in front of me was laughing). They had me on file, I didn't have to do more than tell them who I was, no forms to fill out. I arrived early, and I got called back just a few minutes after getting checked in. Dr. George was examining me a few minutes later. A little nitrogen here, a little there, a hint of a wry sense of humor, some advice of what I should be doing to care for my skin and a few minutes later I was walking back to my car. That's pretty much my definition of a good visit to the doctor!

Friendly and professional front desk staff who go the extra mile and fit new patients into cancelled appointments. The first dermatologist I tried to get in with (a dermatologist at "County", a.k.a. "ValleyWise") told me I would have to wait 2 months for an appointment and did nothing to look for other options. I phoned Dr Whitmore's clinic. They immediately started looking for cancelled appointments and managed to get seen in less than a week. At my appointment, I arrived on time and was called back within 10 minutes of sitting down in the waiting room. Less than 5 minutes later, Dr Whitmore was in the room getting my history, asking detailed questions, doing a focused exam, making her diagnosis, discussing differentials, and planning a course of treatment. She took her time, answered all my questions, even going above and beyond to discuss some questionable moles that she wanted to take a closer look at once the acute illness was resolved. I've been in healthcare myself since the late 80s. I know how easy it is to get complacent in our jobs and not take the time to address everything we're taught to address straight out of school. It's easy to rely on our experience and just jump to the first diagnosis that fits into the box. The fact that she takes the time to go beyond that and make sure she's not missing something says a lot about her as a provider. You won't find a better dermatologist, in my opinion.

Only criticism is the ongoing situation where the people answering the phone to make or change appointments don't have "goal alignment" with Dr. George. In this case my Tuesday 4/23/19 appointment was cancelled because she was ill. When I called a few days later to reschedule I was offered an appointment a month in the future. I reiterated that my appointment had been cancelled because she was ill, and asked why they weren't adding appointments, or scheduling with another doctor, to catch up. This clicked with the young man I was speaking to, and he actually called her to get direction. Shouldn't he have had that direction when her illness was resolved so he could have scheduled me? I had a somewhat similar situation a few years ago when calling for an appointment because of a suspicious looking skin spot. All of the doctors I've seen in this practice have always said to call for an appointment if such a situation arises between regularly scheduled appointments. But the person answering the phone acts as if his/her only responsibility is to fill in an open spot on the doctor's calendar, no matter how far out and no matter the situation. That obviously wasn't what the doctor meant.
