Reviews of Oak Grove Disc Golf Course
What can I say... first in the world!! Truly historic for disc golf. Lots of fun shots, and not terribly challenging. I'm from out in the desert, but when I come down to the valley for disc golf, I usually end up here. While the upkeep has been difficult for the club to deal with because of the city, there is a great community of players that work hard to keep Oak Grove alive. I will always have such a huge heart for this place, and wish I could have been more local. Anyone that has a passion for disc golf, should really make this a destination.
Historic course
Make sure to have a course map or UDisc app if you are playing for the first time.
I walk this area, along with the entire watershed area about 3x a week. Love the woodsy feel to the course & it’s really a beautiful area. I’ve never played golf, so I can’t attest to the course, but there are usually a fair amount of people playing on the lower course, not so much on the upper. 🤔 …
I was excited to play this course, as it is the world's first permanent disc golf course and it was lovely! The views were unbelievable. I currently live in Texas so this is unlike any other course I have played. The course was a bit confusing to follow, probably because of the winter layout and it being my first time, but it was awesome!
OG course that many champions have played. The course signage and tees need some replacements and TLC. Fun course with mandos to keep you challenged.
Great walk. The damn is really big. And you can see JPL from there.
Was lost and my dogs needed to get out of the car. I’d like to thank the residents of Pasadena, the city of same, county of Los Angeles, and God for this absolutely beautiful place. Full of friendly people and respectful squirrels. I bet it’s beautiful when there is water running thru. Can’t wait to come back to that. If u are on the fence get off and come here.
Peaceful, well set up course with some pleasant ambience. Hole 16s backdrop is JPL/NASA!
Great historic course! A must visit for any disc golfer!
One of my favorite SoCal disc golf courses. Beautiful oak tree terain with a cool open valley section with views of the JPL laberatory.
Playing Oak Grove is the disc golf version of ball golfers playing the old courses in Scotland. This is the original permanent course, so just being here is neat. The course itself is very fun, if a bit difficult to follow (even with Udisc's maps). The terrain is mixed with a decent amount of trees, certainly having a sidearm throw was very helpful, and on a clear day the views of the mountains are stunning.
Very cool piece of history. I went solo and played blind. The locals were really nice and let me pass and pointed me in the right direction.
It is a nice place to walk around but you can hear cars all the time and that was annoying. Nice for a little walk with the family.
I was excited to start playing disc golf on this course, since it was the first course EVER. My only hope is that at some point updated maps can be posted of the course because some holes have been taken out and/or moved and it's hard to keep track. Really a nice, well kept area with beautiful views and lots of park space.
BEAUTIFUL ! Great course to play, lots of picnic areas, clean.thank you
Hard to find the right tee, old markings on the teepads are not in use. At least four of the holes were not playable due to maintenance in the park.
I've been playing Oak Grove for close to 20yrs. It's my place to destress (as much as you can when you miss a 10ft putt that should have gone in).
Seems like a very nice place to bring ur dog for a nice walk... It's also a nice place to take pictures of u like taking pictures of all sorts of stuff that catches ur eye...
First time playing disc golf and this course was a blast. Especially on a weekday. Just wish it wasn’t so dusty :/
Decent course, as long as you pay attention to your stepping; otherwise easy to sprain an ankle or something.
The OG of disc golf courses!! Super fun and tight lines with a few wide open shots. You definitely need to stay close to a local if you want to make sure you're playing the correct holes. There's a definite need for tee signs to keep you on track, but they do have red plastic arrows in each basket to help guide you to the next tee pad. I didn't realize this until about half way through the course.
This place is amazing! We drove all the way down from Big Bear and it was sooo worth it. I would recommend this disc golf course to anyone. My son is 9 and he had the best time. We will be back for sure.
Great course. Need UDisc to navigate at times though but nice fun holes.
Today was awesome. Yesterday was a mad house. Super challenging course. This is not the place for a newbie so much. We were practicing for the 2021 winter open next weekend. It gonna be a rough weekend for me next weekend Lol! It is a beautiful course and very clean. Be careful for the poison oak!!!
Almost being nice with 3 stars. For having all the history behind it, this course was overall disappointing. No signage, tee pads falling apart, kinda dirty and untreated in areas. This course definitely could be 4-5 stars with some love! Come on LA don't let this place go! Design of course could use some change too, lots of dangerous shots for such a big park.
The original disc golf course. Long, challenging and fun. Definitely need the Udisc app if you haven't played here before. This course has been ripped up and rebuilt so many times it's really easy to get lost on your way to the next tee.
Great little course...a bit confusing to navigate so use Udisc.
Fun course, but lots of trees to play around. Bring something to retrieve your discs and lookup the map online ahead of time to see the pin numbering.
This place is lovely. Driving into the hills of Pasedena I got a good feeling about a day off well spent. Never played disc golf before but it was lots of fun. Bring a rolling cooler and Bluetooth music for the full experience. There’s an excellent app (Google it) that maps disc golf courses all over. Without it we would have been pretty lost, the holes aren’t very well marked.
I do like this park, but have it 4 starts because it is usually quite busy and sometimes I prefer smaller creds and the ability to enjoy the quiet. But it has multiple trails and open areas that are good for walking the dog(s), just watch out for the frisbee golfers which trend to dominate the lower park area, especially on the weekend. If you are a disc golfer, this is still one of the best courses around!
First disk golf course ever, 18-20 baskets, incredible surroundings and wildlife, a must see
Beautiful and technical course. Very first polehole disc golf course, but the baskets are newer so you're not hitting rusty chains. A couple challenging tee off locations, and some near where there might be pedestrians or cars driving by, but it's beautiful throwing through trees (if you don't hit them).
Went here for my first time to try frisbee golf. It is a big beautiful park that's close to home and has ample parking. Lots of trails to walk, fields to play organized sports and the original frisbee golf course.
Trying out a new sport can be a little intimidating for me but EVERYONE we talked to was super nice-I'm thinking it's the culture of this sport. It attracts mostly laid back nice people. That's my guess after one time out. We were asking people where to start, where the hole was, where's the practice hole, do you ever lose discs. Everyone was nice and patient.
Beautiful park, great crowd.
There are only a couple of tees-holes with a grassy panorama. Actually, this course is well known by frequent players to be a challenge with all of its rock, trees & boulders sprinkled liberally over the several acres of this golf course. THAT becomes your challenge rather than some courses (like La Mirada & Whittier) where you MUST throw a good-loooong drive and still make some distance with the Approach.
If you like shade and don't mind a little grit/dust on your discs then Oak Grove is a great place to return to. Nice/friendly players here too.
the first ever permanent disc golf course! experience a piece of history at this beautiful intermediate difficulty course, featuring many trees and mostly relatively short holes
during the summer a few holes may be closed due to summer campers using space nearby, but even so, a very fun course that you really should try if you love disc golf
I'm not a disc golf player but the place was very peaceful. There weren't many people around which was nice. However, there are a lot of low hanging trees that might get in the way of disc golf but to be fair I didn't look to see the course and disc golf routes specifically, so it's probably fine. There are public restrooms on site but I didn't go inside. Area seemed well kept, clean, and felt very private. I ate lunch at one of the many picnic tables here and had a great day!
Historic disc golf course offering 23 basket pins with multiple variations of game play. Most holes average between 250'-300' distances. Technical areas set in a park with campground area. Can be confusing as most tees are not clearly marked.
The birthplace of disc golf does not disappoint. Beautiful walk through the park.
I came here to check out the disc golf course, which I enjoy immensely. The park was very clean (at nature's best!!) and the baskets were easy to locate. I nearly lost one of my favorite discs in one of the gigantic trees near the end, thankfully my shoe came in handy to bail me out. I am not a pro, even though I haven't been to many courses I still think this place was awesome. I recommend bring some extra disc in case you lose one in the trees and need a spare to get it out. (Or you could use a shoe!) :)
Beautiful place to play a round of disc golf
Tough to navigate but super fun course
This is the first course ever, and the home of the first disc golf basket and the first oak tree and the first rock ever! you can still see the rock to this day, but it’s inside one of the cars in the parking lot and it’s up to you to find it. lots of variation in holes. summer layout has less holes than rest of year. one time a coyote walked up to me, then acted like something came up and he just took off like he had somewhere else to be.
There is a sign that says it's the first frisbee golf course. Lots of low hanging tree branches make this a challenging course. There is some variety in the terrain and topography. Most holes have three or four positions that change throughout the year. Friendly people. Good parking. There are a couple of drinking fountains and restrooms. Expect to see off-leash dogs, the occasional horse, beer, bud, and lots of squirrels.
Great place for staging horses and access to miles of trails.
I never seen disc golf before. It was a beautiful course. Lots of parking. People being very safe. Clean toilets and tables. So many trees.❤️
Clean safe fun
I always have an epic time on this beautiful course!
1 of my favorite Disc Golf courses to play
First and setup one of the best disc golf courses. Nice mix of open shots and shots with plenty of obstacles. I know the course well but if I was a visitor I would be confused where some of the next holes are
It's always a special day when I play a round of disc golf at the course where the game was born. Oak Grove disc golf course nestled in the San Gabriel mountain foothills next to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Canada Flintridge. This is where I learned how to play the game and it's always like coming home.
Today, January 14th 2022, I'm adding a new photo of me, Dan "Stork" Roddick (left) and his friend Tracy (right). I had the pleasure of playing with them both last weekend and it was an epic round!!! For those who care about these things, Stork is PDGA #3. He literally is one of the founding fathers of disc golf. It was my distinct pleasure playing with them both and I'm looking forward to another round soon. Only next time no more trash talking Dan😆
I didn't play any disc golf, but spent time in this park as a child in the 70s. It's a pretty, tree filled canyon with picnic areas, just above the Devils Gate Dam. You may take a walking stroll over the dam itself. Following the canyon, you get into the scenic Arroyo Seco Park bordering Pasadena and South Pasadena.
Got some new basket locations and some new holes, but some of them are not clearly marked. Would benefit from arrows pointing to next tee box and some of the old holes don't have baskets, but if you haven't played there you don't know
I've been coming here for 10 years and I love it more every time I go. It's a par 3 course with 18 OR MORE holes. As of now there are about 5 extra holes that people have added and they are great holes. Perfect amount of trees imo. I have brought more than a 20 people to this course over the years and most of the same people play the course to this day. If you are in soCal it's always worth the drive.
There are weekly and monthly tournaments with very chill and relaxed group of people who aren't overly competitive.
Grab ur discs, bring a couple beers and I'll see you down there!
I was initially very excited to visit the world's first discgolf course but was unfortunately slightly disappointed after my arrival. The course had a plethora of holes you could play but the kicker was that it was challenging to actually find where to go for the next hole (no map available either). On top of that, there were some holes where it was difficult figuring out which chain corresponded to which hole.
Keep in mind, this was my friend and I's first time here at this course. Yet, even after asking some locals if they knew where to go, they were just as confused.
Overall, I had fun playing but either a map or a course redesign would help drastically improve the experience at the world's first discgolf course.
One of the best DG courses in Southern California. The varied course layouts and the technicality of every basket keeps this course entertaining. Good vibes from the locals and steeped in old-school DG culture.
Very good course for intermediate to advanced players. So somewhat difficult and the holes are hard to find in places. If they had more signs guiding where to go next it would get a perfect score.
This park was huge, I drove down to the inner parking lot and enjoyed the weather and disc golf enthusiasm. A lot of people were playing disc golf on a Tuesday afternoon, and it was fun. Bring the family and have a great day here, Great Park
Great course great people little hard to find the route of the course but everyone is super cool and will point you in the right direction .. Over all wish it was closer to my area just happened to be near while working and took my lunch break tossing a disc .. If you can highly recommend this course
An absolutely magical course. There seems to be a hole here for everyone's playing style. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is there's almost no signage. It's tough to find the next tee. I had to follow another group to find my way, even with the uDisc app.
Nice course. but not marked very well. And expect to wait. The lines are atrocious. Oh and be careful lot of people walking across the lanes.
Hot, dusty, and no map with a course layout. But still the best value in town.
Wonderful park. Plenty of room to run around, pick flowers or you can just take your shirt off and roll around in the dirt. I saw a snake there once. It was big. It had 2 eye balls.
This place is pretty fun when there isn't a summer camp closing most of the front 9.
The world's first disc golf course is also one of the best and set in a beautiful place.
It's always a fun round of disc golf here. Park is always clean with lots of trees around. Some elevated parts, grassy and dirt areas. Great park over all
Fun place to hang out if you like being outdoors. There are plenty of things to do including disc golf, hiking and a big Field to play baseball, soccer, Ultimate Frisbee. Just watch out for discs from the disc golf areas.
Nice little park but I would have hoped they made leash mandatory. Came across with a few pets without a leash one attempted to come so close to my dog I was afraid of it attacking not only my pet but I
Beautiful. Oak Grove is my happy place.
The first disc golf course. Holes change a bit every couple of weeks and with tournaments. Ravine hole is a great place to lose discs if you don't have a good distance shot!
This place is the best disc golf course around. 24+ holes and beautiful scenery. Not many amenities, so bring your picnic basket.
This place is awesome. I had no idea there was a course out here. It's great to get a game in or just watch or walk around. Huge park with many trails on top of having the course.
First disc golf course ever. There is a big parking lot and bathrooms are available as well. The course is beautiful (right next to JPL) with plenty of shade.
Beautiful place to play disc golf and a challenge for each goal. I definitely recommend this course.
The OG course.
Hahamonga watershed park is a great spot in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains.
Horseback riding, mountain biking, hikes and bird watching.
There's even ultimate frisbee and softball on the soccer field sometimes, and of course a classic 18 hole disc golf course.
Mind the water hazard on the back nine in the rainy season.
Parking is limited on weekends and holidays so park up top or at the nearby high school.
World first disc golf course. Shows its age but everything is in excellent working order. The course is very technical and has a strong club presence.
I live in redlands now. Disk golf is not the same here. I miss Haha. I miss all the people that play disk golf there. I knew everyone by name and vis versa. It was always a pleasant gathering of friendly folks walking the trails tossing disk with an all you can snap. The place is beautiful hidden from metropolis with the glory and majesty of the mountain peaks, at the crown of your gaze. The ducks swim when the watering hole over at the back side is filled. When the water drys I fish for your disk and sell it back to you. This is a beautiful park. I hope you keep it that way. Toss your trash and butts in the cans.
I really enjoyed this course. I've only played it once, and I'm still very much a beginner at the sport, but I had a good time.
The original! Very fun to have played. Challenges here, easy shots there. Can be confusing at times to find the way around, but there's so many baskets, you can make a few shots of your own!
First official golf course, ever. Located in a pretty nice area, I wish the course's maintenance would reflect that. I try to come here whenever possible.
My home course. I love playing here, the course is well maintained by a group that love the game of disc golf. Always friendly people here who help teach you the game or even the course.
Historic disc golf course, kept fresh by a fine horde of locals. See the FB page for info on bag tags, weeklies, monthlies, and world class PDGA events.
The first permanent disc golf course in the world with a few of the original baskets invented by Steady Ed still hidden away im a few spots. Honestly, probably my favorite course ever
What's there to say??? O.g. baby where it all began!!! Challenging but very fun course. If you near by come down and play a round at the first permanent course for disc golf!!!
Awesome place to hike/walk/exercise but definitely not at night, thats when the coyotes come out to play. Other than that its beautiful 😍 …
Frisbee golf coarse that's a challenge. Could use a better picnic and fire pits. It will always be called Oak Grove to us locals.
overgrown with weeds, but tons of mature trees for shade coverage. great course although some pole hole signs are unreadable. pull up a map in advance. signs unreliable.
Looks cool I passed by there while I was Mnt bike didn't even know it was there till I sawyer some people actually tossing the disc into the hoop really good too know love it out here by JPL
View from atop the Devils Date Dam after recent rains. This is after the county's sediment removal. 2022
The environment I safer because there is a lot of people and it is a wide space. There is also room for runners and walkers. The banquet was beautiful 😍❤️ …
Great course, the managers change up the basket positions so it stays challenging without being unfriendly to beginners.
Awesome course but super hard to navigate. No worries there are always people there to help you through the terrain. Super friendly people plenty of parking too.
Beautiful place of Origin.
The Arroyo and mountainous backdrop make for a spectacular vista. Oak Grove disc golf course is exciting and technical, come and play you'll love it.
I don't play disc golf but I can tell this place is very well organized and each course is set with challenging obstacles. I see a lot of disc golf player each time I visit this place.
Beautiful place i we will come back again
I really enjoy this park because it's a bit wild and unmanicured, not to mention absolutely enormous. We enjoy evening walks there with the kids.
One of the best Disc Golf courses I have ever played!!!
This first permanent disc golf course....'nough said.
Beautiful scenery amazing disc golf course top level very well maintained awesome walking trails and nature
Only one net up! Still fun aimed for 🌲, trash cans, and rocks. First tee next to handicap parking at the ball field …
a short wooded nine with challenging approaches. sturdy concrete tees on most holes. portable toilets and water fountains available untested
Live this park. So many places to walk, lots of open space. Some paved trails for running/skating
Frolfing classic! Well worn course but one of the best in So Cal. Lots of extra baskets but may need a guide to find them.
The original Frisbee golf course in the world. I prefer the fall layout but still fun nonetheless. Can get crowded in the afternoon.
Nice pl
The Least Bell's Vireo lives amongst or beyond the dam called "Devil's Gate." A cute little silver-grey songbird, but also endangered. Riparian woodland, or "woods along a stream," is its habitat, and is now disturbed. Listen for them if you can! :)
Get place to play some golf it was my first time. And it was great. Am glad they took me to Oak grove
Fantastic course and park. Always clean and friendly people all around.
This was my first time playing. It's fun. The numbers aren't on many of the baskets, so I didn't know if I was throwing my disc in the right one.
Pretty nice disc golfing experience. Some of the holes are a little confusing without the udisc app, come prepared.
Great place to go for a walk and take dogs! Borders one side of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Employees there are very friendly.
Have been walking our dog there practically every day rain or shine for the past 12 years. Have met a lot of nice folks along the way 🐅 …
Fix the parking lot waiting till March is ridiculous people that are great places awesome but the parking lot makes it four stars parking was horrible
Best course in town. Really fun. Difficult but not so much it takes the fun away.
I don't play golf. Maybe I drove past the golf course on my way someplace else I don't know. With that said I'm sure that it's really nice.
Relaxing place in the busy city. Lots of frisbee golfers so watch out for discs! Water fountain near ball fields.
It's the "first"disc-golf course in the entire world ! Love to disc-golf,Where It All Begin. Meet "Paul Mc-Beth" Twice?. …..
It's the oldest disc golf course in the world! And it's got a great view of JPL.
Nice place to hike
Great place to hang out with friends even if you don't play disc golf.
As it's known to the Disc Golf community, "this is where it all started". One of the best courses in SoCal
A little tight. Not really any open tee shots, but still challenging and fun.
Even with the challenging gorge, this is a great disc golf course due to its variety of shots
Great for running, hiking, nature and disc golf.
Good course. The baskets are short and difficult to find your first time out there.
This park is a frisbee golf course, with a few hiking trails that run through it. So if frisbee is your thing, you'll be stoked.
This is a nice course with good variation that uses the oak Grove Park well. Guys in the lot sell lost and unclaimed disks.
The best course around. Lots of trees, obstacles and hole placements make this the premier course in the area. Nothing beats it.
Great course, just need to know where your going easy to get confused which hole to shoot for on the desert course
Great public course for some frisbee fun. It can get crowded on the weekends.
five stars for the OG spot, minus one because it’s pretty hard for a newcomer to connect up the holes. (#twss)
Absolutely love this historic course...make sure u check out the original rules sign
First disc golf course ever created. Fantastic, challenging course.
Lots of people playing disc golf here. Great place
A beautiful hike with a Client of mine. Yung Isain
Low ceilings, technical over distance, always moves quickly as long as you dont get stuck behind a group of 7!
Beautiful spot to get outdoors. Great hiking and biking.
I love this place. The walking/biking trails are great in summer.
Great 18 hole course with a "desert loop"! Desert section hot as expected but try it out!
Pretty course, but hard to find some of the holes. Clearly not regularly taken care of, but still fun.
We went there for a hike. The Disc golf was totally a surprise to me.
Fun course....changed baskets yesterday... not all short now!
The best (and busiest) disc golf course in Southern California.
Short but challenging holes. Off number of holes there...like 22 or so...kinda confusing on the layout. But this is where dg started.
The First and one of the Best Disc Golf Courses in Southern California.
Lot of nature
Great place to get your hands on California native plants. Goes to a good cause.
Very fun course. Lots of shade from trees.
Confusing course in places but fun all the same.
This park is very nice I loved it I recommend this park to anyone that enjoys nature
This golf course is nearby Rose Bowl Stadium.
People around will help you get oriented. Always make sure to check the maps and look around (especially far far away).
These trails are clean and scenic. A must view.
Come enjoy the worlds first disc golf course.
The first, the one, the only Oak Grove. My home and favorite course, great people.
Where's the water?!?! You may think when visiting here. I have yet to find any!! But the park is clean and can get a bit annoyingly crowded when the school kids are present.
1st disc golf course in the world! I frequently get to guide foreign visitors through the course.
another great mothers day
24 holes. A little hot and dusty but some nice views
What's not to love about oak Grove? Been coming here for the last 25 years, and hope to be back for the next 25 years.
Great place for hiking and mountain biking.
I love the free dinner and free round if you finish the course.
Awesome disc golf especially with all the added baskets.
very exciting place....cool cours. beautiful setting. highly recommended.
The first ever permanent disc golf course. O.G. where it all began!!
Beautiful course, wish they maintained the course markings better.
Well maintained except signage. Be sure you get latest map on web.
The original. Always fun. They keep the whole course well maintained and switch things up often.
Where it all began. First ever disc golf course with baskets!
Great course!
This is the OG course and the holes dont disappoint!
Fun hike area
Make sure to download the map on the UDisc app otherwise the course is very confusing.
Great fun and free of charge, you bring your own disks.
Great family location, lots of different activities to choose from
Nice place to hike and sometimes there's water in the winter
This was a great disc golf course.
Fun course. Good challenge for all levels of play.
Beautiful Park great for frisbee golf hiking and baseball
Mother nature full out great for working on cross country runs. Close to the JPL
Best pastrami ever. Chili cheese fries with pastrami delicious.
As History of location has always been since 1979 at age 10, "BREATHLESSLY HISTOTICAL in its BUEATY"!
Place was crowded but fun.
This is a Frisbee mecca. It's also popular with high school kids from across the street who are up to no good.
Great technical course
Great place to have fun and enjoy your time or day
Oldest DG course, always a pleasure to play here.
Gorgeous facilities and genuine people. A good slice off the corner of heaven
Quiet well kept little piece of nature not far from JPL.
I'm a regular and recommend this place to anybody. Love it!
The original and still the best course in Southern California.
Awesome course fun good vibes and atmosphere
Super clean and badass course! The OG
Really pretty park, with working and lighted bathrooms!
It is the original home of the sport and an absolutely beautiful location.
The birthplace for Disc Golf, I love this technical course
Great course. Easy to lose discs.
Beautiful course that really puts to use the natural surroundings.
Muyy relax like
Hiking trail is very good.
Beautiful and engaging course. Everyone there was friendly
