Reviews of Duende Dance Studio
Amazing studio and instructors! I tried the beginning bachata class for beginners. I had no previous, professional training and my partner had only listened to a bit of bachata before. I’ve always wanted to learn to dance bachata properly and my partner learns better with instructor led classes. Duende Dance studio didn’t disappoint ! By the end of the class, my partner and I were dancing together! It was incredible and we are definitely coming back after my partner and I do more hw to come more prepared to learn!
I have taken Salsa & Bachata classes at Duende. I started with no dancing experience, and was quite apprehensive about learning. My teachers Mike, Kasidy, Byron, and Eda have all been wonderful teachers. They were able to teach the basics so that I could learn quickly and without feeling self-conscious. Through their instruction I have fallen in love with dancing. I could not recommend this place highly enough!
After taking classes and going to socials at Duende for a couple of years, I rented the space for my wedding reception. We had 80 people, and wanted to have a good space for dancing. Melissa at Duende was amazing to work with. She answered all of my questions and made everything as easy as possible for me through the planning process. The space was perfect, and helped to make my wedding day truly special. Duende will always be an important place to me and I look forward to many more years of dancing there!
Prepare yourself for an unapologetically long rave review.
I love Duende, and it's almost hard to count the ways (they are so numerous). But I'll try.
First of all... the level of instruction here is insane. If you want to learn, to really learn how to dance, then Duende is where it's at. The instructors will literally fill your dancing toolbox with everything you need to soar at social dancing. They don't just teach a combo or some steps, they'll explain the how and the why so you can figure it all out yourself (which is invaluable, in my opinion). And their breadth of dance knowledge is mad deep... five years into my dance journey, and I still learn something new at every single class. My salsa and bachata have both improved exponentially since I started lessons.
Which brings me to my next point... the instruction is both stellar AND practical. There's a huge focus on equipping students to be able to go out and slay on the dance floor. Performance tricks and lifts and whatnot are cool... but they're not meant for social dancing. Duende teaches for function (and fun). What you learn will still be beautiful and playful... but it'll also be something you can *actually* use when you're out dancing.
The instructors themselves are absolutely top-notch. Byron is a master of his craft, and can pinpoint, with alarming precision, exactly what you need to adjust to nail that move, footwork, spin, or combo that you've been working on. He is a deep well of knowledge, and is, without question, one of the best dance instructors I've ever worked with. Eda... literally cannot sing her praises loudly enough. She is such an asset to her students and the community at large. With an artist's eye, she helps not only with the technical aspects of the dance, but shows you how to make it beautiful. I've soaked up so much from her, from styling, to presence, to falling even more deeply in love with salsa/bachata—she's incredible. And one of the best things about Eda is how deeply she cares for her students, and how invested she is in their progress. I could go on and on about the other instructors, but suffice it to say... Byron & Eda set the bar high, and have curated a group of instructors who live up to that level of excellence.
Lastly... the people you'll meet, the friends you make, the things you'll uncover about yourself... it's all worth more than its weight in gold. Learning to dance can just be picking up some steps (if that's all you let it be), but it can also be transformational (dance is so very often a startling analogy to life.) At Duende, I've discovered a wealth of information about dance, yes, but also about myself.
No question, this is one of my favorite places in the Twin Cities. I'm so lucky to have discovered it, and feel that the dance community is #blessed to have such powerhouse instructors and instruction available locally. There are layers to this dance game, and the people at Duende... they'll help you uncover them, step by delicious step.
Best place for salsa and bachatta lessons for social dancing in the Twin cities. Byron gives you individual feedback to make sure that you're doing it right
First Salsa lesson today. Super fun, great instructors, and very comfortable atmosphere to learn.
