Reviews of Hope Community Church - Downtown
Drew Heindel
Hope has been my church home since 2006. There are many reasons why I love Hope, but here are a few:
- Being a part of Hope Community has helped me grow deeper in my relationship with God and understand how the death and resurrection of Christ impacts every aspect of my life.
- Hope does not shy away from discussing hard and sensitive topics facing our society, but it does so in a humble, sensitive manner, always keeping the good news of Jesus Christ at the center of the conversation.
- Hope does not preach or toe any political party line.
- Hope is a lot fun! The atmosphere is not stuffy on Sunday mornings. Jokes, laughter, and Nacho Libre quotes are common place :) . Hope leadership will say “We take God seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.”

I started going here as a senior in college. Often I would leave the Sunday evening service with a loaf of day old Panera bread. What kept me at Hope for a decade was the meat in the sermons. Hope likes to thoroughly examine whole books of the bible over a stretch. My husband and I attended, met, and got married here. We attended for six years together, before joining a church plant.

Our family loves Hope and we would highly recommend if you are looking for a church! Their teaching is rooted in scripture and they help you find great community through small groups or other ministries.

Welcoming church with a large young adult attendance. Singing style was not traditional, but also not performative or showy. Sermon was not fearful of engaging current culture, but very well focused on the goal of expressing God's love and noting our sinfulness.

Jesus is moving through Hope. The pastors walk us like-by-line through scripture each week, we’re quick to feel welcomed any Sunday morning, and we know we’ll be met and cared for where we’re at. Have been attending for just over 10 years and still excited to be here every week.

I started going to Hope 5 years ago after a quick Google search for churches in my area. What drew me in were the people that welcomed me and the Bible-centered style of sermons. I quickly joined a small group which became and continues to be a wonderful group of Believers who I study the Bible with, learn from, and can call my friends. I've been able to grow a lot in my faith since calling Hope my home church and am excited to see how God continues to use it to disciple other Believers in the Twin Cities area.

My wife and I were members here for three years before recently moving out of state. I will miss this place and it’s people more than any other in Minnesota. The building is just a place, but it comes with memories. Memories of Sunday mornings, feeling so hopeless and far away from God, then being overwhelmed by hearing the good news of Jesus Christ, that I’m not too far gone. That there is still hope. That as bad as I imagined myself to be, I was far worse, yet God didn’t cast me off. That although I was dead in my sins, God made me alive with Christ. By grace I have been saved!
Hope centers it’s teaching around the gospel, and this gospel can be found and enjoyed in every part of the Bible. I couldn’t wait to go to church services every Sunday because it was literally like going on a treasure hunt, and expecting to find gospel treasure every time…and you do! That gospel treasure is Jesus, and when you realize He is more than just a name in the Bible, you find that you never want to stop hearing this gospel, in fact, you want more of it. That’s the best part of every Sunday. Jesus is living and the giver of life, and everything He has done here on earth represents just how much God loves us. When I would join in worship together with everyone by singing, I would find myself joyfully tearful and so thankful for everything that God has done for me and my church family.
Hope isn’t just a place where people gather to feel connected, it’s a family of all sorts of people who are regularly calling one another to find rest in Jesus. People who are daily being transformed by the gospel, and gathering together on Sundays to thank God for it and worship Him in light of it. Hope is a community with its arms wide open, inviting everyone to hear, believe, enjoy, and live out the gospel. Are the people at Hope perfect? Far from it! But that’s why we all need the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Do you consider yourself the worst person imaginable, or do you think you’re pretty good? The gospel is for both of you. Maybe you are indifferent. The gospel is for you too. Maybe you’ve been running away from God your whole life, and you think it’s hopeless. The gospel is for you. Maybe you’ve been desperately trying to live up to some standard to be accepted by God. The gospel is for you. Maybe you’re feeling anxious or desperate for answers about life and current events. The gospel has that one covered as well! I have been all of these people at one time or another, and I can say with certainty that the gospel has its place for everyone.
Come to Hope and hear all about it :)

Because of the distance, we only attend Hope a few times a year. But each time we do, we say the same thing ... they do it right! The focus is on Worship, not just doing church. It fills me up! And the sermons are filled with insight. I learn more each time about God the Father, and how to engage in a relationship with Him. It's not just for young adults. We are in the "over 50" crowd.

My husband and I love our church family at Hope. We’ve been involved in many ways such as Small Group, Hospitality, Childrens Ministry, and others. We’ve taken classes at Hope (including the one we met at :) and Systematic Theology). Hope provides a wonderful community that we consider Hope our home. Would highly recommend checking it.

Hope has been our church home since 2013 (R) & 2014 (J). We've always felt welcomed, loved, and accepted as we are. The Gospel-centered messages and community continues to help us grow our faith. Everything is set up to fulfill Hope's mission to help as many people become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ. The pastors and staff are there to help through the highs, lows, and in-betweens of life, always pointing us to Jesus.

Pretty cool church! Younger crowd, pastors are down to earth and understand people and theology! I would recommend the small groups if you are looking for community!

Great community focused church known for its involvement in assisting local communities. A welcoming facility with one EPIC painted bus inspiring artists of all kind to pursue their dreams. #JustPaintIt #CreativeSouls

I began checking out Hope first as a college student, and 11 years later consider Hope to be home! I've grown so much spiritually and relationally over the years being challenged and encouraged by services each Sunday, but more so by the community and belonging that comes through getting connected and doing life with other Hopesters. Come as you are!

If you're looking for a church that is rooted in scripture and is based in theology, this is your place. All of the pastors are great preachers and are always dissecting the bible in ways I never thought to. I love it when preaching is based in strong theology so we have a clear understanding of the whole picture when looking at scripture.
The worship is amazing as well! It's basically all hymns, modernized by their worship leader Tim. It's extremely well done and a joy to worship to.
If you're looking for a new church, you need to come and try Hope Community Church. You won't regret it!

Hope has been a great church to call home for over a decade! Would highly recommend to all!

This is my home church for many reasons. The first is that when my wife and I were looking we wanted a place that does community intentionally and prioritizes it. Being a pseudo mega church (simply by numbers), Hope still maintains a priority of making it feel smaller than maybe it does on a Sunday. Joining a small group, getting involved with mens and womens gatherings, being a part of a ministry team, etc all exist to intentionally make it so that no one has to be without community. Secondly, we wanted a church that prioritizes the Gospel on Sundays and Hope does this without excuse and as centric to every facet of Sundays and beyond. I love this place. Come check it out!

Music is mostly hymns respectfully retooled by the band to fit the student and young-parent demographic. Very friendly. Expect it to be loud and a bit crowded, especially when the University of Minnesota is in session.
Parking can be tricky during Vikings and Twins home games, but there are volunteers to help traffic.
Andrea Kyle
Amazing community when you join a small group. Interesting and biblical and relevant sermons.
Josh Feland
shoutout to the confirmation class of 1903 making the most slappin stained glass window you've ever seen
also didn't know that Matthew was a goat with a beard. that part kinda freaked me out ngl

I genuinely have loved every service. I found this church very welcoming and warm. I have to travel to get there but I will be coming back!
Deron Slater
This Church is definitely the Body of Christ. The word is preached without compromise and the topics covered are relative today as to what the Church is encountering. I will be looking to make this my home Church.

I started attending Hope the very first Sunday of my freshman year of college. The first service that I attended, I knew this church was different, and just what I needed! Hope focuses on emphasizing the importance of scripture and how the Gospel is evident throughout the Bible. Now, almost 7 years in, Hope has become my home and I am so thankful for all that Hope has added to my life! At Hope I am blessed to be a part of a loving community - both in my small group and through the Young Adults Ministry (YAM)! Forever grateful for Hope and the way I have been pointed to Jesus!
