As a patient with ankylosing spondylitis, I had almost given up hope on getting any relief from my spontaneous flare ups in my back...until I walked into Archetype Health. Dr. John explained the 3-dimensional approach they provide to health: chiropractic health, movement and nutrition. Intrigued, and desperate, I decided to give it a try, and I am so grateful that I did! I am used to feeling "some" pain every day, and now I go days...weeks even.... with zero pain! My sleep has improved; I no longer have the energy dip in the afternoon; I have even been able to reduce the dosage of some medications (under the supervision of both doctors). I actually FEEL GOOD! All the time. The staff is incredible.....Needless to say, I would give this clinic a million stars if I could. If you are hesitant, just try it! You will not regret it!

Initially sought out chiropractor care after delivering my daughter. I was experiencing terrible low back & sciatic pain. Within a few visits I was feeling normal again after a year of pain. I’ve continued my adjustments (over two years now) & love the changes they have made. As long as I live in Bham this is where I’ll go for adjustments & well-being. The staff and services are amazing. I had muscle work done by Hollie and it was unlike any massage I've ever had. I felt relief in my back that no other therapist has been able to achieve. I'll definitely be scheduling more work!

This is such a great chiropractic office! The staff is beyond friendly, and it is so easy to reschedule or call in late. They are the absolute best. The staff deserve 5 stars alone. Dr. John is wonderful though. As nervous as I was during my first visit, Dr. John walked me through every adjustment he makes and continues to do so every time. He always does his best to address any issues in every appointment before you leave, even if that means re-adjusting or adjusting in other places. The initial "physical" was so thorough. I came in for a headache, but they addressed issues I had that I did not consider significant but was slightly aware of. I truly appreciated that. After very short months, my migraines are relatively non-existent. I've been to numerous physicians for help, but nothing truly helped until I came here. In addition, Dr. John helped me come up with some exercises that are safe for my body and effective to obtain my health goals. I highly recommend Dr. John and this practice to anyone.

I've been to several chiropractors over the years and this place has a lot going for it. The atmosphere is welcoming. One feels a sense of community. Everyone who works here is polite, intelligent, competent, and refreshingly genuine. You receive massage therapy before your adjustment which makes a huge difference. Dr. John Palmer, the primary chiropractor, performs adjustments with unmatched confidence and skill. You really get the sense that he knows exactly what he's doing and is very good at it, which allows you to relax and enjoy it. I've been going here twice a week for several weeks now and it has been life changing (no exaggeration). I am feeling physically and mentally better than I have in years, and I owe it to Archetype Health!

I can't say good enough things about the Archetype team! I sprained my neck for the 3rd time in July. Looking for quick help, I landed here. Not gonna lie - I was frustrated (remember: terrible pain from sprained neck) while Dr. Brandon took me through x-rays, a range of movement evaluation, and some other tests. All I wanted was an adjustment so that the pain would stop. He took care of that but then started telling me about what all Archetype offers. It was what I had been looking for. A full service shop that cares about fixing the cause of the injury instead of just the symptoms. He said his job was to help me both heal and improve, so that I wouldn't need chiropractic care again. After a week of sessions, we started talking about a health-positive plan: Not just back to baseline, but up to as healthy as I could be. Optimal health. So I started a 6-month program of adjustments, muscle therapy, and movement coaching. I'm about 6 weeks into the progress now and couldn't be happier. My computer caveman posture is improving, I'm making improvements on issue like my knees, hips, and ankles that I didn't even realize were causing the problem, and I'm no longer in the persistent level 3-4 pain that I had become accustomed to living with as a former athlete turned desk jockey. The whole shop is easy to work with. Scheduling is easy. Appointments are easy. The services are always professional. These doctors communicate well before, during, and after the sessions (We all know how rare that is). They spend time answering my questions about what's going on with my body, and remember my questions between sessions and come back with great advice for me. I'm excited to keep working with Dr. Brandon for my adjustments and Dr. John for my movement evaluations. Can't pretend to be excited for muscle therapy, but the therapists are awesome to work with and spend just as much time helping me learn as the doctors do. In case it's not obvious - if you want to work with a team who wants to teach you how to become the healthiest you possible and make it easy along the way, then Archetype is your home.

Dr. John is fantastic. I have used several chiropractors in the past but never the results I have had with Dr. John. It is so nice to come into an environment with the entire staff dedicated to making you feel better. This entire approach to your well being is different at Homewood Friends & Family. Doctor John has changed my life! I’m going to share my story here so please read till the end, but these guys are amazing plain and simple. The staff are extremely friendly and really easy to work with. They are very accommodating and flexible which is needed for me and my schedule that changes daily. The massage therapists that help with muscle work are all extremely talented and know how to target problem areas and provide immediate, and long term relief. So here is my story....I hurt my lower back 10 years ago. I have been dealing with severe lower back pain on a weekly basis ever since. I have been unable to do a lot of normal daily activities ever since that injury, and when I do do those activities I paid for it with severe lower back pain for days. (I am only 28 years old btw.) Finally I was done ignoring seeking help and figured I would see what the hype was with chiropractors before going to see a back surgeon. I started seeing Dr John 3 months ago and these guys have seriously changed my life. In just three months I have gone from almost daily back pain, to having minor tightness in my back maybe once or twice a week. I’m talkin going from multiple days a week of 10/10 lower back pain to maybe a couple days where it’s like a 3/10. I went from not being able to do intense yard work or exercise, to being able to do those things and be fine the next day. If you have read all the way to the end of this you clearly are dealing with a serious issue going on with your body. Doctor John and his team here won’t necessarily make it disappear, but I can tell you from personal experience, he can help A LOT. I wouldn’t be able to function like a normal person without everything Dr J and Holly and everyone here has and is doing for me. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Originally, slight neck pain is the main reason I went to Friends and Family Chiropractic Center after meeting Dr. V at the Mercedes Marathon Expo. After struggling through the Half Marathon, my neck issue was causing constant pain and reduced range of motion. My first appointment was just a few days after the race. After taking and evaluating x-rays of my entire spine, Dr. V explained the treatment in detail. Honestly, the first few visits were uncomfortable as he worked to line up the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar parts of my spine. I was still trying to recover from putting my middle aged body through the torture of the half marathon, but Dr. V encouraged me to keep moving and to stay active. Recently, I've been able to keep up with my running partner and even passed her up a couple of times! The only thing that has really changed is the chiropractic care I've been getting at Friends and Family Chiropractic Center. I feel like my whole body is more aligned than it's been in decades so it takes much less energy to move! While I'm still not sure about running another half marathon, I actually enjoy running again. They lay hands on the sick and they recover. I've been going there for over a year for my back, neck and right hip - all old injuries. I felt better immediately. Invest in yourself and check them out! Exceptional chiropractic care for myself and my 4 year old. I have never felt like another number during any of my visits as the staff works to meet my needs and provide an overall welcome feeling. The chiropractors, Dr. J and Dr. V, are excellent in their care and really listen to the patient, working with the patient to better his/her health. In 2016 Dr. John performed not one, but two series of very precise, technical, and intense adjustments. (I could tell you more about that later in a second rating because it’s completely true and documented.) The results were absolutely stunning, and to my knowledge there is no other field of healthcare in the world (known to man) that, to this day yields such profound, immediate, and meaningful results. Five years and some change later, I somehow managed to, essentially, dislocate several discs BETWEEN my shoulder blades. It affected every muscle, rib, and fiber in my torso, and has inflicted me with exhausting pain, every day, for the last two weeks. Nothing I’ve done has brought relief, and for obvious reasons back surgery, medications, or the like were not only ridiculous options for me as an otherwise perfectly healthy man, they should and would be considered completely incompetent and even damaging. He did not have space in his schedule for me, but his colleague Dr. Brandon was able to see me immediately. Day 1 was a complete initial study of my condition. It included a few pages of information, and a series of preparatory adjustments to return overcompensated regions to their original position. Day 2 I rested. Day 3 (today) at 6:45am Dr. Brandon, began again with some preparatory adjustments for about 5-10 minutes. He then performed the primary adjustment called a “distraction”, which literally requires another person in complete synchronicity to perform a very strong, almost elongated, bidirectional pull on my 40-year-old spine to encourage it into correct alignment at precisely the right location. I can only describe the experience as epic. It took my breath away for nearly 10-15 seconds, and it took about 3 minutes of recovery before I could stand, but I probably could have within the minute if I had to and I felt immediately that the tension in my back was gone. By noon it felt completely better, just a little sore. I know every case is probably different, but these type of results are pretty normal, and its so affordable even paying out of pocket. I never leave reviews anywhere, on anything, but because it really does take a measure of trust to let someone literally re-shape your spine, I wanted to attest to the complete and absolute confidence I have personally, in the skill, precision, and excellence with which these folks operate. They also happen to be great people to know in general. I intend for my entire family to learn the wellness principles they are teaching, and will be recommending them to all my friends and family. If I have a headache, I would call them before I took so much as an aspirin. That really is true (unless I just knew it was from dehydration or something), I forgot how almost magical the results are when compared with any other discipline.

It would be an understatement to say that my chiropractic visits at Friends and Family have been life-changing. I had been experiencing increased pain over about 6 months in my neck and shoulders, but I just thought it was stress and tension. Never have I been fortunate to have such caring healthcare... Until Homewood Friends and Family. My family and I have be with Dr. Palmer since January and have helped us be able to have t the level of health and mobility we have always wanted. I have suffered from chronic back pain since my teen years and my husband has had knee and hip issues for years from being heavily involved in sports. That has all changed for us! My husband is off his knee brace, guys spine is in total alignment and likes to brag that he can keep up with his younger teammates. Two months after starting care with Dr. Palmer, I became pregnant with ease and with continued care, had such an overall easy pregnancy, my feet didn't swell once! I just home birthed a beautiful baby girl with no complications!! We also have a three year old son who is seen by Dr Palmer and I'm pretty sure he thinks Dr. Palmer is magic. He is starting to pull on my and my husband's neck or rub our backs saying he's adjusting us. It is the sweetest thing. He loves being at the office as well because it is warm and inviting, ULTRA clean, the toys are pretty darn fun, and of course he gets gummy worms (their actually vitamins) after his adjustment. I started having knee pain, digestive issues, left side of face pain and various other issues starting at age 27 on random occurrences. I spent thousands of dollars on medical doctors, physicians, blood test, and various surgeries to try and figure out what was going on until I was 32. 5 years of this and NO ONE HAD AN ANSWER! INSANE RIGHT!?!?! After 5 years of NO SOLUTION, I decided to try a different approach and go the chiropractic route. Dr. John and the Archetype team drew my blood, gave me a nutrition plan and developed a health plan that was molded to resolve the issues that i was having. Through this process, it was uncovered that I had a severe gluten intolerance that I likely had my entire life and show cased itself at the age of 27, and this intolerance was causing pain and inflammation throughout my entire body. I was not moving enough throughout the day(computer job) which was not helping the inflammation. Also, it was uncovered that my previous doctors were trying to solve the problem by pumping me full of antibiotics(WHICH WAS MAKING MY ISSUES WORSE!). Archetype conducted a blood test, developed a nutrition plan and a bi-weekly adjustment plan to solve my issues. At first, i was skeptical because of the past 5 years. The medical industry destroyed any confidence I had that there was any possible solution. Dr John and the Archetype team convinced me very quickly THROUGH RESULTS and NOT GUESSES(as the the medical industry likes to do) that the plan was working. Ultimately, What took the medical industry 5 years to try and resolve.... Archetype resolved in 60 days. Today, I am 34, and due to the last 1.5 years at Archetype, i am biking daily, eating a health diet and feel like I am 25 again. I HAVE SO MUCH ENERGY! I highly recommend Archetype as a replacement to your regular family physician to take care of your day-to-day health needs. They will formulate a health plan for you to STAY healthy and you will reap the rewards. P.S.: It's a much better investment of money than the medical industry offers today. Trust me!

I used to be scared and skeptical of chiropractics, and now I am kicking myself for not coming years ago! At 6 mos pregnant I woke up with an incredibly painful and stiff neck... since you cannot take NSAIDs while pregnant, I reluctantly decided to try a chiropractor visit. Friends and Family were able to accommodate me with a same-day appointment with Dr Ray. From the moment that I walked through the door, everyone was kind and hospitable. Coming to Friends & Family is my favorite form of self-care! Dr. Ray & Dr. John quickly diagnosed a misalignment that summed up the pain I was feeling: numbness in my far right fingers that traveled up my arm, around my elbow, around my shoulder, shoulder blade, and up my neck on the right side. They showed my x-rays to me on a huge screen, and explained what the previous 3 chiropractors couldn’t. I practically fall asleep mid-adjustment, every time... it’s that thorough. A few weeks ago, our 4 year old son twisted his arm on the trampoline. It presented as a nurse-maids elbow. We realized we needed professional assistance. This place is nothing short of an amazing utopia. I was told by my longtime friend to visit Family and Friends Chiropractic, because she knew all the pain and suffering I have been through. When I finally had no choice but to give them a chance I almost couldn't walk. After Dr. Palmer made his first ajjustment on me I felt something for the first time in over 20 years, relief of pain and the ability to walk and move without pain. The feeling of being pain free is enough to bring tears to your eyes. Their staff are amazingly comforting and welcoming as well as the establishment. I may not have children or infants but they are as comforting to them as they are the adults. Preserving Our Temples I vividly remember the day I started my Homewood Family and Friends Chiropractic (HFFC) experience. It was my birthday and I was given a beautiful day. All starting with my massage therapist whom I trust implicitly, when she recommended I visit a chiropractor for my worsening symptoms, I wondered who she had in mind. When she replied that she took her newborn to HFFC, something immediately told me to be open to this idea. In the past, I haven’t had the best experiences with chiropractors. A proponent of fueling and hydrating the temples we have been given, I can easily distinguish the days when I have hydrated well vs. the days I haven’t. Our bodies thank us so much more (when we’ve hydrated well) by moving back into the proper alignment. Treatment is just one facet of Dr. Palmer’s vision. I began my treatment with Homewood Family & Friends in August after I was experiencing severe neck pain (pinched nerve) and severe lower back pain. Somedays, I could barely walk. Although I had tried chiropractic care in the past, I really hadn't had that "ah-hah" moment, convincing me that it needed to be continued. I only went for the "temporary fix". Of course, the pain would creep back in my life, little by little, with me trying to compensate it with Ibuprofen or Aleve. I allowed myself to ignore it until it became unbearable. My desire to avoid surgery led me to google, and in my search for chiropractors in my area, I read the reviews for Homewood Family & Friends. The reviews led me to my first appointment. Immediately I was impressed with the thorough exam I received. I felt hopeful I had picked the right place. The Doctors didn't just 'adjust' me and send me on my way, they explained their plan for my longterm health. I wanted a healthy lifestyle that would help ease my pain, and it was refreshing to find a place that has the same goal for me. Ever since I began my treatment, my body began to gradually feel better. I still have some bad days, however, I am experiencing so many more good days! In fact, after about 6 to 8 weeks of following the recommendation of the doctors, I recently just experienced an entire day out without excruciating pain. (Prior to my care, I could barely get out and do anything because the pain would be intolerable.) I have realized that the only way to continue my positive results is to take care of myself. With the help of Homewood Family & Friends, I have learned that Chiropractic care effects so many areas, not just the overall pain. I can honestly say that the overall experience of this place is just amazing. I often joke with them that it is "the happiest place in Birmingham " because they are so genuine about how they care for people. From the moment you walk in you truly feel like you are with "friends and family". They actually care about how you are feeling and the progress you are making. You are always greeted with smiles and the Doctors always make time to talk to you. I can honestly say that making the decision to be here was one of the best things I have done for myself. I have known Dr. John for about three years and have friends who will testify about how greatly they've improved and benefitted from his clinic. I've never been able to join in with my own testimony until this year. I'm one of the main bartenders at The Collins Bar and previously was upper management for Octane Coffee Company so I'm constantly on my feet for hours on end with no rest. It's how I make my living and pursue my calling. A couple of months ago I began experiencing debilitating lower back pain that worsened over a couple of weeks to the point that I could not stand or walk for longer than 15 minutes before the pain would be unbearable. I doubled up on pain medications to no avail and at points my legs would buckle involuntarily. Following the first night where I had to go home because I could no longer work, I made the earliest appointment possible for the following day. The staff at this clinic is impeccable. To mention a few: Erika, Dr. Vignir, Luis, and Mike are all so professional, friendly, and welcoming. It doesn't even feel like a clinic visit because of the people there. It has become a highlight in my week. Of course there's the attention to detail and care that Dr. John delivers along with a down-to-earth, calming, friendly disposition that make this place like no other. Quickly and efficiently, I had X-Rays taken and was walked through my skeletal issues by Dr. John. I was visibly shown exactly where and how my pain was occurring: an old rodeo injury that had knocked my hips, sacrum, and lower lumbar out of whack which left one leg significantly longer than the other and limited my range of motion. After 8 years, my body could no longer adjust to the injury without triggering intense pain. He then had me perform range of motion tests, gave me precise adjustments to my spine, and then had me re-do the motion tests. I could actually feel my body moving easier and feel my range of motion increase as my bones were realigned in the first visit. The debilitating pain disappeared after my first adjustment and the manageable pain that remained began to quickly dissipate over the following weeks of therapy. The only night of work that I had to miss was the night before my first appointment. Since then, I've been able to work full shifts with no pain medication. Just yesterday I went to the gym and experienced no hitches. I stand differently now. I move more efficiently and easier. It's like I got a new body. The results are real. You'll see and feel yourself improving. Unlike other horror-story clinics that I've heard about, Homewood Friends and Family isn't out to slow your recovery, keep you a patient for as long as possible, and take your money. They want to see you make a full recovery and improve your daily life as quickly as possible.
