Why did I do this to myself? I only got a 6 inch! The steak was very fresh! I have some new diet restrictions so I wasn't able to get them the way it should have been but it was delicious. The bun was soft and fluffy. The fries are good too.

UPDATE***** This past weekend I spoke one of the owners who sincerely apologized and offered a free meal and another opportunity to enjoy a proper experience. An order was placed for pickup along with two free subs, fries and cookies. On Monday December 13, I entered John Smith Subs and was warmly greeted by the cashier. I waited in line and received both the free order and the additional order I placed. I was greeted by the other owner who extended his apologies and presented me with my order! The fries were hot, crisp and fresh. The subs were superbly prepared, warm and delicious! What a tremendous difference! We will definitely be back for more! Previous experience I placed an order for my family and I using the app for the John Smith Subs at Holland.I ordered a Reuben which was part of a large order. We picked up the order, drove to my daughters house and sat down to eat. When I opened my sandwich, it appeared burnt. I decided to taste it thinking it might not be so bad… well it was horrible. I immediately called the store and a young gentleman answered the phone. I stated that my husband had just picked up order# and gave him the items. I then stated I’m calling about the reuben. I tasted it and it’s quite burnt! The gentleman began speaking to someone else telling them she’s calling about the Reuben and she said it’s burnt. The gentleman then asked me “ well how much if it did you eat?” I replied, “ I beg your pardon?” I heard someone in the background say tell her to bring it back and we’ll make another one. Which he then relayed to me to which I promptly replied, I’m coming right now and will be there momentarily. We drove all the way back to the store approached the counter and I asked the gentleman, “ Is it your policy to ask a customer who is submitting a complaint about an item to ask how much have they eaten?” He laughed and said “ sorry about that”. He then took the sub, showed a young lady and told me it will be about 3-5 minutes. My husband and I sat patiently waiting. A young lady approached us 5 minutes later and said sorry about that, handed us the sub and walked away. We had previously ordered from this location in the first week of December.

Subs two days in a row? If they're this good I may be back tomorrow. I went looking for a good Italian sub away from the normal chains and I was pleasantly surprised. Italian sub amazing . Get it with oil and vinegar as well as a little hot peppers and you won't be disappointed. The fries are really really good and you can get them extra crispy . Just ask the excellent person who helps you how many different was can get your fries

The proprietor and the lady who served us (perhaps his wife?) Were both super nice and friendly. The bathrooms were sparkling - even better both the soap and the paper towel dispenser were motion activated and the doorknob is the type you can trigger with your elbow, instead of the pesky round ones you have to touch to open. Now on to the food! I ordered a six inch chicken teriyaki, no mushrooms extra teriyaki. Delicious! The fries with my combo? Fresh, crispy and salted well. The only very minor tweaks I might make is adding extra onions and perhaps having the fries stay in a hair longer to get just a bit more color. That is me being nit-picky. XD My coke was great tasting, which as we all know is not always the case. My friend ordered the gator (everything but the kitchen sink,or as he called it Noah's ark because it had all the meats!) and thought it was really good. He did warn it is a lot of meat as advertised. I would definitely say to give this place a try! As a bonus bonus, the hand sanitizer they have out for use smells divine. Edit It seems the owners have hired help as that's all I ever seen to see anymore. While the fries are still hot and crisp, the quality seems to vary as to which random people are there working. You get half filled sandwiches, sandwiches where the filling is slapped in the middle leaving the ends bare. I'm quite sad as I used to really enjoy coming here. Now they can't even get 'extra onions' correct. Sadly, it'll be a while before I head back this way.

The food was good but the staff outshined the food. Not saying anything negative about the food, but the service was helpful and friendly while the shop was very clean and well-maintained. A random gentleman not in uniform greeted me and said he was happy I came out to dine there tonight as I left. I can only imagine that was the owner. The bathroom was immaculately clean. So if you like sandwiches that are better than your average hoagie shop and want to eat in a place that isn't sticky and gross this is about as pleasant of an experience as you're going to find

Found this sun shop while out running errands. Never heard of it, so I decided to try it out. My fiancee knew of them, they are big in South Florida. Great steak subs, tastes fresh. Good quality of meats used. If your looking for a good steak sub, try Jon Smith's. You're going to love them.

Jon Smith Subs recently opened and is located in the Timberlake Shopping Center along Holland Rd. This place opened in December 2020 and is locally owned and operated. With this place being in a shopping center, there is ample parking available. My most recent visit here was on December 10, 2020. Once you come into the shopping center, the place is easily visible as it's located on a corner of the shopping center. On each occasion, the place was spectacularly clean all around. They also have hand sanitizer available at each of the entrances into the restaurant. Although the space is small, they do try to keep social distancing in place, both while waiting and at tables. We were immediately greeted when we came in. You really felt like you are at home. It was a very vibrant, upbeat and friendly feel. It was actually pretty busy in there at the time too on each visit. We saw the menu online beforehand, but there were actually more options there. I ended up going with the 6 inch Cajun Chicken Sub, but light on the jalapeños for the first visit. My mom came in with me too and even though she wasn't part of the event, she also ordered a sub for herself, which was the 6 inch Authentic Italian. On the second visit, I got the 6 Inch Authentic Italian. As some of you know, I do have a mushroom allergy, and in both instances they did superb with it. They even remembered my allergy on subsequent visits. In all cases with my visits, everything has been done perfectly and quickly. Everything was as ordered and the way it should be. The plan all along was to bring the food home to eat on each visit, so it was time to indulge once home. Both subs that I had in each visit were awesome. The hot one was still hot even when I got home. The subs are filled with lots of stuff, so you shouldn't go hungry. Also, the bread that they use is to die for. It is some of the best bread I have had anywhere with a sub or hoagie. I'm not sure if they are done in house, but I love how soft that bread is. Overall, I have had some great experiences here and will definitely keep coming back. Service is on point and if an issue arises, they are quick to resolve it as well. The staff are extremely friendly and thorough. With a great staff and great food, you can't go wrong. If you are looking for a different kind of sub place than the other larger chains, this is the place you need to check out.

Me & my husband gone in there tonite we got teriyaki chicken & Steak Bomb And two different seasoned french fries One was Cajun and the other one, Parmesan....not bad on the subs but both of the fries could of used more seasoned on them.

Really nice staff! We tried this place for the first time today. A bit pricey but a 12" sub was easily two meals. Generous portions on the fries and they were quite tasty! The subs were great and had good flavor! The bread wasn't anything special and there was a bit heavy. If there was anything I would ask to change is the use better bread but it doesn't take away from the subs. It could just be a.little better. We would absolutely recommend trying them!

We stopped by for lunch, I bought 2 halves. Smoked Cajun chicken sub, flavor was great but the bun did not hold up too meat&veg, the other one was the Classic , again the bun/roll was fair compared to other sub places, steak lacked seasonings and steak according too my wife. French fries were great.

We ordered catering from Jon Smith Subs for our picnic after our rehearsal dinner and were so pleased with how everything came out. The food (sandwiches, salads, cookie trays) was delicious and everyone complimented us on it, plus there were many leftovers for the rest of the weekend. The staff was friendly. The food was hot and fresh. The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars is because the Ruben was not what I expected at all. I'm not hating. It still tasted good, it just wasn't what I wanted. They put their own spin on the Ruben. Also the place is a little pricey but overall, I had a good experience. The fries were fantastic and they gave a very large portion.

My wife's coworker suggested we try Jon Smith Subs at 4239 Holland Rd Ste 728, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Glad we went! I ordered the "bomb" and my wife ordered a turkey sub. We didn't wait long and the atmosphere and easiness of the place made it more pleasant. The associates are friendly and accommodating. We even had a chance to converse with the manager, Kimberly, while we were there. She definitely has your interest at heart and glad you stopped in! Great place and menu to try! Will be visiting again!

Ordered a steak bomb came with fries and a drink. First impression is that it's a bit much but hey I deserve the best. I always eat fries first in any meal. Ritual. These fries were very good. I then sip my drinks, forgot it was Minute Maid. Would have been better to have fresh delicious lemonade which would probably match with the quality of the food. No problem. Water is better for us anyway. Now the taste test of the Steak Bomb. It was the BOMB!!! Very very good! From the first tender bite of meat to the final morsel hiding in the folds of the paper. You have something here Jon Smith. I'm grateful that the meat did not seem to be seasoned as most foods are high in sodium or msg. I was able to add just enough. So thank you very much for the best sub sandwich thus far. Oh wait. What I truly enjoyed was the bread and how it absorb the juices from the meat. I ate for two days on that sub sandwich. Thank you.

Very friendly staff and good food. Had the Steak Bomb and Fries. Fries were spot on, daughter absolutely loved them. Only two things needed working on based on this visit, sandwich was a bit soggy and wait time for food was bit long. That said, will be definitely trying again.

Brand new place. They have been open for a week and I decided to try them out. This place is positively awesome!! The freshest and absolutely best classic chicken sub I have ever had. This is like a chicken philly.. The chicken is cut up and marinated, it's not like other places where you can't actually tell if it's chicken or something else. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend you try them out. You won't regret it.

Try the Gator Sub. (No actual gator meat.) It was one of the best subs that my husband and I ever had. The kielbasa is fantastic. Keep in mind that all subs are made fresh, so it will take 10-15 mins to get your food. So worth the wait!

Everything was so fresh and the store called me bc my cookie choice wasn’t available so they compensated an extra for the inconvenience! Now that’s customer service ! Went there last week. Ordered a 6-inch cheesesteak and a bottle of soda -- which came to $11.15. I thought that was a tad pricey for the food I got. The sandwich was pretty good -- not bad, but didn't totally knock my socks off. And I thought this was sorta like Subway -- you go in, order and in a couple minutes, you have your food. I was pretty much the only one there and it still took about 10 minutes. I'd give 2.5 stars if I could -- but it was either 2 or 3. The staff was very friendly and the manager even made sure I'd been helped, so I'm going with 3 -- but again, I just thought $11.15 was way too high for the food I received, and it just seemed to take too long. Probably won't be back, but you never know ...

Went at Noon for tuna sandwich. I was advised they were out of tuna but after looking said they had enough for my sandwich. I received no indication they would be making more. How can you be out of one your main staples at Noon? Doesn't make no sense to me. Staff were very polite.

Came down to VA for the Fear Not Tarantula grand opening and was looking for a good sub shop to stop at before our 6 hour drive home. Came across Jon smith and was a great choice! Employees were super helpful and pleasant, and food came out in good time on top of it. A little expensive at least for us Jerseyans but was 136.89% worth the money haha will definitely be coming back on our trip at the end of the month!
