We made a trip to Tampa to Phantom Fireworks for some New Year's Eve supplies and stopped at an awesome lunch spot. Gulf Coast Sourdough Sandwich House specializes in fresh baked sourdough breads, pastries and sandwiches. We ordered the Italian and the Greek. Both were so fresh and flavorful. We also purchased a guava bread pudding, blueberry cheesecake bread pudding and a jelly donut swirl loaf of bread. The bread puddings are so moist! Yummy! We have yet to try the bread but it was highly recommended by another customer in line. She declared its only made a few times a year ! Also , free cinnamon rolls on Wednesdays! If you're in the area of Fowler Ave in Tampa make sure and stop by Gulf Coast Sourdough Sandwich House 😁😁

This place is a hidden gem. We came here on a Sunday morning and I’m SHOCKED this place doesn’t have a line out the door. I’m from San Francisco and this totally rivals our sourdough. I’m confident this place would gain traction *rapidly* on the west coast! The menu is simple, but well thought out and highlights the most important ingredient— the bread… and the sandwiches reflect that too :) I got the veggie sandwich with rosemary garlic (5/5) You gotta love an eatablishment that pays attention to detail. The bread wasn’t greasy and had an extremely satisfying crunch. The egg was fluffy and flavor overall was well balanced. Also, the salt flakes on the bread make all the difference. boyfriend got a bacon egg and cheese flyby (4.5/5). immaculately assembled into a rosemary olive oil sourdough bread. The only reason it’s not a 5 is because he thought it could have used a little more bacon 😉 Definitely making a beeline here next time I come back to Tampa ;)

Yum yum yum! Came here for breakfast and it was delicious. All of the artwork inside the restaurant was really amazing. And the sourdough was great. They had great prices for all of the loaves of bread.

The best bread!! I got the Greek sandwich and a salted caramel brownie and both were amazing. I rarely ever eat bread or sandwiches because I’m always disappointed, but this did not disappoint! Their bread is truly unmatched, so flavorful! I will definitely be back 🙂 $10 sandwich that was huge & I could only eat half at the time and then $5 for the brownie. The loaves were $5-6 fresh and frozen were $4

Absolutely fantastic sandwich, bread, and service! Dare I say the best sandwich in Tampa Bay??? They have weekly specials that are a must try. At the end of the week their jalapeño popper sandwich was so good it was all sold out. We will definitely be back to try it!!!

Only loafing around when it comes to bread, the recently relocated Gulf Coast Sandwich Shop bakes the best sourdough I’ve ever tasted. Must-haves are the Chocolate Babka and Crusty Asiago with rich flavors, amazing textures, and endless options for sandwich lovers. As a patron since 2017, I’ve been delighted to watch them rise from the local farmers markets to their fully-baked dining venue replete with sights, smells, and of course, limitless sourdough. The bacon-filled flyby I had was mouthwatering and options for both vegetarian or vegan are also available. Of note are the wonderful staff who are both friendly and helpful in whatever quest for sourdough you may have.

Had the most amazing sandwich (their special for the week / jalapeño popper grilled cheese) and since it’s Wednesday, they throw in a cinnamon roll with flyby or sandwich orders. Glorious. Sourdough blueberry muffin was super tasty. Grabbed more cinnamon rolls and a loaf of simple sourdough for the week. Will definitely be coming back to support this awesome bakery.

Stopped in on a cold Sunday. They make their bread fresh. Not a large space but has 4 inside tables for you to dine. Ordered the Italian and with the cashiers recondition had it on Clive bread!! Sooo good! People were also coming in just to buy their loaves of bread.

I snagged a loaf of strawberry guava swirled sourdough and OMG is it heaven! It reminds me of the guava pastries I used to get from the bakery with my dad when I was younger. It’s so good! Everything I have tried from this place is awesome!

Oh my goodness, such good bread! I have so far tried their normal sourdough, Sriracha sourdough, and pepper jack sourdough and all three are amazing! My favorite might be the Sriracha but if it is then the normal kind is a close second. The employees are also super nice and I like how you don't get nickel and dimed about toppings like at a lot of places, thank you so much!

Wow this place was good. I came here for the first time today with a group. All of us loved our food. I got the buffalo chicken it was spicy and delicious! The girl who took my order was patient and super nice to explain what was popular and her favorites when I asked. Also I felt it was super reasonable pricing for what you get. Especially the kids sandwiches. The have cute out door seating which is great bc the inside is cozy but small. I would definitely come here again!

Chose this for lunch out of curiosity and have no regrets! Usually not a fan of sourdough but apparently I just never tried the right dough. I got the Italian Flyby special and it was VERY satisfying on many levels. The portion was perfectly sized, the height of the sandwich was a comfortable bite, and the fillings did not fall out. One of the sauces was a bit salty but that might just be me and my low salt tolerance. Ate the whole sandwich before I realized I forgot to take a picture. Special came with a free sourdough cinnamon roll which I wish I could order by the dozen! It is more dense and flavorful than an IKEA roll. I will be working my way through the menu until I've tried everything, including the bread pudding and pizza dough!

Literally didn't expect to find this gem on Nebraska Ave in Tampa. Felt like I was back home. The service was great and the food was delicious. Extremely reasonably priced too. I'll definitely be visiting again!

Such a great local lunch spot. As you might expect their bread is on point and so delicious. I order lunch regularly. They can be quite busy so I usually order ahead of time to quick pick up. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried, and don’t forget the cinnamon rolls!

Spectacular! I am NOT a bread person. At all. It's always disappointing and bland. I maybe eat bread a couple times a year. However I saw Gulf Coast at a farmers market. It looked like there was a 20% chance that I might like it. So I bought it. I ate 4 slices in the car on the way home. Upon looking up the company I found out that I actually live 5 minutes down the street from their store. I popped in today to re-up my supply. I bought their roasted red pepper sourdough and it's amazing. All of their breads are dense and chewy yet airy. The perfect amount of sour that isn't over powering. Their flavors are also on point. Only buy their bread if you are ready for a new main staple in your house. I warned you.

Our neighbors told us about Gulf Coast so we decided to go and check out the bakery. The unique assortment of fresh and frozen breads was impressive, and left with two loaves (Guava and Tumeric) to start off with. The bakery also prepares fresh sandwiches for dine-in or take out. Seating is limited indoors, so I took mine to go. Can't wait to try some of the other sandwiches and breads!

So love this place for the quality food, amazing service and so many different options. Special sandwiches weekly are always great. Different weekly pastry box are so fun and delicious and different. Overwhelmingly enjoy the fly bys, in essence a calzone sandwich. Last but not least... Bread loafs for sale are phenomenal. We always get the garlic rosemary.

Really good bread. Great people who take real pride in their baking and deliver amazing loaves like sriracha garlic and traditional sourdough. The eat-in area is a bit small and warm, but the food more than makes up for it. The sandwiches are hearty and delicious, and anything baked is on point (try the cinnamon roll!). Do yourself a favor and get a takeout sandwich - they're delicious.

I’ve had hit and miss experiences with the cinnamon buns. They aren’t gooey and soft necessarily; but when they’re baked well they are a delightful cinnamony-sourdough treat. However, a few times now I’ve gotten them when they’ve been dense and doughy almost like they were underbaked or maybe the sourdough failed and the rise didn’t work correctly. At any rate I’ve never been disappointed with their sandwiches.

Nice little surprise awaits you in Seminole Heights. I just happened upon the sign outside today and I turned around and went back, so glad I did this sourdough sandwich shop is perfect for the area it's in. I was greeted warmly, and shown the menu. And chose the Bacon,spinach, and tomatoes on pressed sourdough. Each sandwich is custom built to order. It was a great sandwich, pressed to perfection, full of flavor, the spinach was a wonderful idea. I would recommend this sandwich for any one. As well as the shop itself. The menu is limited, they offer loaves of bread that they freshly baked there. They accept cash and credit. And call in orders.

Moments ago, I ate a new menu item from the new dinner selections. Wow! My pepperoni baquette 🍕 pizza was " off the ⛓️ chain ". First time trying this interesting bakery and sandwich shop. I had a very tasty Italian on Simply Sourdough. The sandwich was pressed with spinach and tomatoes. They have a nice selection of different flavor sourdoughs and even hand packed bags of bread flour for anyone baking their own. I’ll definitely be back.

Had an amazing pastrami sandwich here. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in Tampa. The bread chips and hummus were tasty also. Service was good too, everyone was very helpful and friendly. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good sandwich.

Stopped by randomly today to just grab a quick bite to eat after getting some drinks at spaddy's coffee. My boyfriend got the pepperoni and cheese flyby and I got the bacon egg and cheese (BEC) flyby, they were both absolutely delicious and hit the spot. The flybys are seasoned perfectly, are dense and very filling very worth the price for them. We also got a chocolate chip cookie that was tasty. The young lady who took our order was so friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be back for the guava sourdough and more flybys!

Amazing quality bread! I'm always on the hunt for a good sourdough and this is probably the best I've ever found! And so many delicious options! I tried the regular sourdough, cinnamon, turmeric and black pepper, and rosemary and garlic and I absolutely love all. The cinnamon one is especially extraordinary. Can't get enough! Everything we've purchased here has been outstanding. As for regular fare, their breads, breakfast offerings, cinnamon rolls, etc. are all outstanding with both traditional and more unique flavors all being of exceptional quality. They recently started also doing pizza and garlic knots on certain weekends, where you order in advance, and then pick up at specific times. These are well worth the advance ording to get! The ingredients are top end, and of course the crust and rolls made with the dough made by Gulf Coast Sourdough are simply amazing. I cannot recommend this business enough!

I’ve tried Gulf Coast before at Farmer’s Markets and I always see their posts online. I knew I wanted to get some for Mother’s Day so we ventured out to their brick and mortar location on Nebraska near Hillsborough. The location is really nice inside and I love the concept of bread everywhere. I love bread. We grabbed a big loaf for our gathering and also I ordered a Fly By sandwich which was delicious with ricotta, salami, and spinach inside. The coffee was also great, everything is about local here. The people at the register were super friendly. Overall - it was pleasant. I grabbed two loaves of sliced sourdough bread to go for my Mom and I’m a happy camper. I will be back.

It’s hard to describe just how good this place is. All the breads are fantastic and they have a pretty wide selection to choose from; their signature breakfast “pockets”, though, are the real star for me. They call them flybys and they’re like the most incredible version of a hot pocket that you can imagine—packed with fillings, from the standard egg/bacon/cheese to more complex options, like the baja one or spinach and feta. All wrapped up in a tasty, chewy bread shell. Definitely worth a stop for breakfast or lunch or just a loaf of bread if you’re in the area. They make longer rolls/baguettes too.

Truly one of the best sourdoughs I have ever had. Stopped by while visiting the area for a few days and was so glad I did! Grabbed a loaf of the Power Sourdough (extra fermented and extra sour) and it was amazing. My biggest complaint about sourdough I get from other bakeries is that it is usually just not *that sour*. I was happy to see GC had sourdough and "power sourdough" options. The Power Sourdough has such a nice tangy flavor. I highly recommend taking it home and toasting it with some butter or olive oil. Thank me later!

Disclaimer, I love sourdough. This place did not disappoint with their sourdough. They offer a variety of sandwiches including a breakfast sandwich. They also sell various types of sourdough at their shop. I tried the cinnamon swirl sourdough and it does a good job of combining sweet with sour while being mostly a dessert in my opinion. Looking forward to trying different sandwiches and breads in the future.

Came here and got some cinnamon rolls, a sandwich, and a loaf of bread. We enjoyed the sandwich, and the cinnamon rolls very much! We are still using the bread to make things like avocado toast. It freezes very well, and following the toasting directions gives you great results!

Whoa! It was so good and from what I read fermented sourdough is safer to eat for people with hashimotos so i made the trip there and stocked up! Cute place and the best sandwich i have had in forever! Would love a closer location but I plan on making monthly trips to get our fix! They are located in the heart of Seminole Heights. The location is absolutely welcoming and spacious enough to provide social distancing. Their baked goods are absolutely delicious and innovative. They are known for their Flybys and should give them a try on your visit. I find myself visiting them at least once every two weeks. Oh, you should definitely try their sourdough baguette. It is mind-blowing good and perfect for any type of sandwiches!

Great stuff. Very, very good sandwiches and great bread. The new shop on Florida Ave is larger than the old one and has a couple of tables so you can eat in. I originally took a sourdough bread class put on by Gulf Coast before the shop opened. The class was great, and I have made many loaves using the starter I got from that class. Since then, I’ve been to the restaurant multiple times, and have been more than satisfied every time. The Flybys are fantastic, and if you get a sandwich, you can pick from their different breads. They also sell bread, and it hold up really well in the freezer! Go, for the food and the class, you won’t be disappointed.

Best bread in the area! I love the cinnamon rolls & the turmeric/black pepper bread. I’m sensitive to gluten, so the fermented sourdough is easier to eat and doesn’t bother my stomach like other non fermented breads.

A bit tight and warm in the café but absolutely delish! I would suggest a pre-order as it stayed very busy in and out during my wait. But, I see why, my turkey pesto sandwich was very tasty and perfectly pressed. The asiago sourdough was great! I look forward to trying more off the menu! Keep up the good work, I will be back. If you have room to add soups or salads to the menu I would love to try it!

Everything is always delicious! The new location just hasn’t figured out a good flow for the line and ordering, everyone kept cramming in and it’s a very small space which resulted in the line being very chaotic and cramped. It would be awesome if there was a pick up window for call ahead orders to speed up the process and alleviate the line.

Excellent bakery. The sourdough is so good it puts every major grocery store to shame. I simply won't eat bread from any other store. Seriously ruins " normal" bread. Like other reviewer's said buy two put them in the freezer and you won't be disappointed.

We've tried the sourdough and marbled rye and they were both so delicious. When we were checking out I grabbed one of the heated savory pastries (I can't remember what they are called), but we got the spinach & feta. Warm, loaded with spinach and just the right amount of feta (I don't like too much because it tends to overpower the other ingredients). We are headed back to try the pepperoni one next, and of course pick up some more delicious bread. This place rocks. Very friendly staff too.

Have 100% converted to this as my staple house bread instead of anything from the grocery store. I’m a bit obsessed with the seed and nut bread so that’s my go-to, but all the flavors I’ve tried have been amazing. After going to San Francisco a few years ago and having a sourdough awakening, I’m thankful I have a place to get that quality in Tampa. Their customer service is also superb!

Google recommended this place to me. Glad I listened! I had fresh baked, grilled, seeded nut sourdough bread with bacon, tomatoes, havarti cheese, and a sprinkle of course salt. They recommended their garlic aoli that is EVERYTHING! That sauce! Scrumptious!! That cheese pull though! I ate half for breakfast and half for lunch. The cinnamon roll was amazing! I have been buying bread from Gulf Coast Sourdough for years but yesterday was my first time at the new sandwich shop. Of course I had to buy several loaves of bread to take home. Then ordered a flyby and a sandwich to eat here. Both the sandwich and the flyby were really good. My son who is usually very picky eater commented on the pepperoni flyby with "that's yummy" - which is a compliment that he does not give lightly. We will definitely be back soon!

Delicious sandwiches and bread! A little pricey, but worth the drive. The only drawback is the location. It is right on Nebraska, about 1 block S of Hillsborough Avenue so it comes up fast and parking is extremely limited. If this is the worst that you have to endure to get a really tasty sandwich and a large portion for 2 meals then I would absolutely go again!

We came on a Saturday morning and got a vegetarian flyby (falafel and kraut) and an Italian sandwich on rosemary bread. The flyby was good, would be interested in trying different flavors. But this Italian sandwich was perfection. It was just a perfectly, well crafted Italian sandwich with high quality ingredients and made with care and attention to detail. It is exactly what a sandwich should be. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. Great food, great people, great place. Definitely support this shop. Another great Seminole Heights spot! First off, the bread itself is wonderful, as are the cinnamon rolls. But the sandwiches are why we keep going back. They specialize in what they call "Tampa pressed" sandwiches, which I really like. But they'll also do them un-pressed by request, which my partner always does, and I admit it's really good that way too if you prefer your bread un-toasted like her. My favorite so is the Greek turkey. Or maybe the pizza sandwich. Or whatever the special of the day is. It's all great.

Excellent owners and delicious loaves. Ive had several flybys and vegans should rejoice that the falafel hummus sauerkraut was surprisingly delicious. I was not a fan of the breakfast flyby as the eggs were extremely salty.

Great local spot if you're in the Seminole Heights area. I don't generally enjoy sourdough bread but checked this place out on the recommendation of a coworker. I'm so glad I did! Charming little eatery with just a couple of tables and chairs, most people probably take their orders to go, as I did. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, service was efficient and my order was correct. My sandwich was delicious. I haven't tried the Flyby yet, but since everyone that walked in the door was asking for them I am very much looking forward to it!

There were various types of sourdough rounds, baguettes, loaves and sourdough sweets. I picked out a round and a baguette. I also grabbed some cans of King State canned cold brew. Then I set my sights on the real reason for this visit. Sandwiches! Gulf Coast Sourdough has a couple vegan sandwich options. One is a Falafel Sandwich. The other, and the one I eventually settled on, is a vegan Flyby. Flybys are essentially Gulf Coast Sourdough's Oregano and Olive Oil dough rolled out and filled with a tasty filling then wrapped and baked. The vegan version contains vegetables like onions and spinach with a spicy kick. It was so good. I loved the puffiness of the dough, with a slight tang and the final kick. It came together perfectly. The loaves that I took home with me were also great. They were crusty outside, soft inside and had a tanginess that outshines any sourdough you can find in the store. The price is a bit higher than if you bought one there, but not by much. The taste difference made the extra dollars worth it to me. Like sourdough bread, sandwiches, unique desserts and local drinks? Gulf Coast Sourdough is somewhere you need to check out!
