Wait can be long so if you’re looking for a quick breakfast sandwich to go, you won’t get that here if you see others standing around.
However it is worth the wait! Sandwich are stuffed and fluffed!
Cold brew was ok but I didn’t like roast.
Lexy McCauley
Amazing breakfast sandwich. The people that work there are super nice. I really like the aesthetic they have in the store, too. Their menu is basic, but what I had was really good. They do both dine in and to go.
Caroline Fernandez
Came here for breakfast, ended up getting breakfast and lunch… you can order from the lunch menu even at 9a. The hash browns are decadent, so make sure you add one to your meal. We got the pho sandwich and a breakfast sandwich and both were excellent. They were large portions and very filling. The pho sandwich tastes just like the soup. The staff is friendly and patient. There is limited seating inside and 2 tables outside. I’d highly recommend checking this place out.

Delicious. My kid is a picky eater (😡) and even his completely plain turkey sandwich (a) looked good and (b) tasted great.
Go for a sandwich stay for the pickels (which apparently they make in the basement). *Chef's kiss*
Michael Long
This is my 2nd time ordering take out from them. Their sandwiches are are delicious, fresh ingredients and good bread products. Would definitely order here again.
However, my one complaint is to stay away from the Whitefish, it was small and not worth the price when compared to their standard sandwiches. (It might've been a special as I don't see it on their menu anymore)

Wow. Simple spot. Great food.
Small place but a perfect design.
Rueben pictured was awesome. The sal, also pictured, didn’t disappoint.
Kids Sammy’s were so perfect for our kiddos. Just order one chocolate milk. They are awesome and huge.
Gonna head back next time we’re in the city.
Kaden Lee
Loved the corn beef egg breakfast sandwich! The egg was so soft and fluffy I can literally eat this every morning.
Sam
The best breakfast sandwich ever. I was awestruck by the quality of food and the service. The sandwich was simply the best there is. The staff were super friendly and treated me very warmly. Already sad I'm leaving the city and can't enjoy more of their food.
I placed the order online, and it was ready in 15 minutes (9am Sunday).
I will be back ❤️
Kathryn O'Brien
Sandwiches are great! Important to note that although it says they allow dine in on google, they only have one indoor table available and it’s like a counter with 3 stools. There are two outdoor tables. Seems like it’s best to order ahead and pick up your sandwich to-go. Sandwich pictured is the club.

I honestly did not expect to eat one of the best sandwiches in Philly, from a place called "Middle Child". Food is so good. Try the "Surfer" with American cheese
Ryan M
Best spot for a sandwich. Sandwiches are excellent. The taste, price, and portion of the sandwich are perfect. I was hesitant about some of the ingredients that would be on my sandwich, but just trust them they're on the sandwich to help compliment with everything else. Definitely my favorite sandwich spot in the city!

Update:
i finally went and got the seasonal BLT on a Friday around lunch time. The line wasn't long to order but expect to wait a while (they were saying about 25-30 minute wait) especially if you get the BLT. I think if you aren't getting a blt and the website is online(they shut it off when it's especially busy) you should order ahead since most online orders seemed to be in and out real quick.
I subbed avocado for the bacon since i usually don't eat pork or beef, and it was tasty. I know then it's not technically a BLT at that point but it's how it is on the menu. they don't really allow substitutions for most of their menu but I'm really happy to have a vegetarian option for the blt.
i walked home but the sandwich, while maybe a little soggier 15 mins late, was still really good. I will say expect the tomatoes to be really juicy and for the liquid to just gush out everywhere. it probably isn't very park friendly eating lol so grab napkins if you don't have a sink handy.
The BLT was listed as 13.50, i think after what i assume tax plus a good sized tip I spent 17-18$. it isn't something id get everyday at that price but also these tomatoes are top notch.
I think I'll continue trying other sandwiches, one "blt" per season i think is enough for me lol.
Earlier review:
I got the breakfast sandwich for takeout (ordering online is the way to go). Oh boy does this place do an amazing job making sandwiches. This is not a light breakfast by any means (I mean... look at that fluffy egg) and my friend and I weren't hungry for a longgg time.
c balderston
My biggest issue w MC is that I'm stuck! The turkey sandwich w avocado is so dreamily good, that i can't bring myself to order anything else! And they're as nice as their food is spectacularly delicious.
Grace Tucker
We got the Reuben and the Phoagie and both were incredible. Staff are super pleasant and efficient. Can't wait to come back to try the rest of the menu, especially the breakfast sandwich!
Pavida Charoen-Rajapark
Absolutely delicious!! We had the breakfast sandwich for breakfast and they cooked the scrambled eggs freshly for us. Egg was still runny in the middle. *chefs kiss* We had to come back for lunch on the same day!
Nicholas
What a sandwich! Heavy, pretty and oh so tasty
Even though I live in a different city I have been following their instagram for a minute so I was excited to try it once I was in town.
Woke up before opening and decided to workout before ordering. Once I finished my workout and got dressed I went on their site and saw ordering was down... I got sad but decided to call. They said they were just busy and would reopen in 10 minutes. I started my walk there and was able to order after 10 minutes or a little more
I got the Herschel which was a short rib corned beef sandwich. It was heavy and I would say worth the price sandwich. The corn beef was perfect! Not too salty or greasy.
I'm not a huge rye bread fan but it really worked. The only thing I would have to say is the eggs could have used some seasoning. Otherwise it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches ive had.
Really great brand!
Ozlem K
This a small cute shop with extremely delicious sandwiches. I tried a Phoagie and pleasantly surprised with the richness of texture and taste.
Kayla F
The breakfast sandwich is literally one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Perfect blend of egg and cheese and the greens add such a good touch. Highly recommend it even without any of the extra meats!
Georgia Konstantinou
We got turkey Reuben and beef Reuben and they were delicious and warm ! We will definitely come back !! We loved the sandwiches. They are very busy so calculate waiting time.
Nazli Abhari
We went there for brunch on a Sunday morning which was a very busy time but this did not take away from the great experience we had. The staff are super friendly. They have an open kitchen and you get to see all the magic happen right in front of your eyes. Their sandwiches are very filling and have an interesting mix of flavored that oddly work together. They are also reasonably priced. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.
Ashley James
Top quality, pretty-as-a-picture sandwiches jam-packed with fresh ingredients! Had the shopsin club, I'll be back for the reuben and definitely for the breakfast sandwiches. For lunch time, the wait wasn't horrible, but there's no room, so the line goes out the door. My only complaint is that for some reason, this really heavy metal music was blasting to the point we couldn't hear the guy taking our order and he couldn't hear us. It was completely unnecessarily loud, and bizarre! Why heavy metal? It doesn't take away from the food though, so I'll be back.
Parker Brush
Best Italian (so long sal) in the area. Proportionally balanced and with great flavor. Seeded roll was nice.
Chris “Topher” Sympson
Cool atmosphere and some of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had! Most places skimp on the eggs but this place loads it up! I got the breakfast sandwich with the corn beef. Soo good and the cooks making it right in front of us were all setting a great mood for the place.
Sue Spolan
Worried that if I tell you how I really feel about this place, it will get super crowded and then I’ll never get back in. Middle Child is a revelation. The best breakfast sandwich I ever had. I’m fascinated by the chefs here, who are both serious and relaxed. No idea how they manage to turn out such spectacular stuff. Breathtakingly delicious.
Allan Elsberry
Simply Amazing! We had breakfast here and the food was wonderful. Also, the coffee was surprisingly tasty for regular drip coffee.
We had to wait about 20 minutes, but the meal was well worth it.
Marshall Schurtz
Probably my new favorite breakfast place. I love me a diner, and love a nice unpretentious coffee shop. Problem with diners is 1, they're moving out of CC more and more, and 2, the food can also just be me. Well Middle Child fixes that. Great coffee, great food (I got a reueben I believe) and great atmosphere. Nice and easy to order from the front (like a cafe/fast casual). It's small but lots of take out it seems too. Nice people and great food. It's really what diners used to be before they became a throwback. Will come so many more times!
Mary Margaret
I come to Philly a couple of times a year and each time I grab middle child for breakfast. It is easily the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had!
Emily prigmore
This place has delicious, healthy foods. Highly suggest the breakfast sandwich, only served Friday-Sunday before 11 am. Took about an hour to get the sandwich, so maybe don't go there if you are in a rush. Took extra time because it's so popular and they really do move fast in there. As of this time, no dine in available for center city location.
Christina Vedar
Hands down the best sandwich shop in Philly!!! I've tried all the sandwiches and they're all delicious, but my go to is the Shopsin Club!
Whit H
Came for the breakfast sandwich, was not disappointed. The Herschel was amazing, fluffy eggs and incredible corned beef with a tasty rye.
Kurt Yasenchak
Go here and eat these sandwiches. They are all incredible and you can't pick a bad sandwich. You can't even pick a mediocre sandwich. It is only BEST IN CLASS. Word on the street is they are opening a "sister" location.
Today we had the So Long Sal!, The Surfer, and The Phoagie. They were all spot on.
Come here. Eat anything. Love everything.
Michelle K
I'm generally not a sandwich person and I stay gluten free and dairy free so I avoid places like this at all costs. My friends have been raving about it and I read that their GF bread is delicious, so I tried out their shopsin club on gf bread. The only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is because the sandwich cost $16 and it was just a normal sized sandwich. That said, it was delicious, the service was great, nice ambiance, decent seating, and overall great experience. Would come again if ever in the area .
Erika Arrea
Breakfasts was absolutely amazingly flavorful and delicious! Personal super friendly and helpful! Coming back for lunch!

UPDATED!
Crowded, poor music choice (seriously it was all Pearl Jam, I friggin hate Eddie Vedder), pretty middling food, and half-baked decor.
Ordering is confusing and seating is incredibly limited. Pass and go to your local bodega.
The extra star is for the gluten-free bread and separate assembly station- depending on your tolerance, it’s an option.
UPDATE 8/2021: MIDDLE CHILD REDEMPTION ARC
wow so the pandemic has improved the situation at Middle Child- online ordering is easy, and if you time it right it’s super breezy. Had the Herschel on gluten-free bread, and holy cow… the short rib corn beef was something else, and their new GF bread is some of the best on the east coast. Get the hash brown in the middle!
Marjie Patterson
Really delicious sandwiches, includes options to easily be gluten free. Very busy at peak times but they keep the food moving.
Kaitlyn Osborn
Awesome! I ordered The Surfer. Really good ciabatta bread! Be prepared to wait 20 minutes or so as this is a popular place.
Dana Magnuson
Middle Child has everything I want in a breakfast joint. Cozy atmosphere, fun decor, friendly staff, oh and delicious breakfast sandwiches. I'll be coming back many times!
Jonathan Magen
The veggie sandwiches are so good it's worth standing in line, even when you order ahead. To avoid the line, wait 45-60 minutes past peak lunch hour before dropping by.
Jason C
Great fluffy eggs form the basis of this delicious breakfast sandwich ($6) along with the cheese and arugula. Would highly recommend.
Don Plata
Food was fresh and tasty. Felt like I had just visited my older sister who is the middle child. unique vine that seemed more for the local than for the visitor. I like this feel when I travel. It is what I look for. Service was quick and portion was twice what I should have eaten. I had the Herschel Waker for breakfast with OJ. The OJ was fantastic too!
Arnav Kacker
Anything less than five stars for this place is unimaginable. Easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. From the crunchy and soft bread to the savory spreads to the delicious meat layers- it’s all amazing. Come hungry!
Jason D
This place is awesome, don't listen to Kyle from 2 weeks ago complaining they wouldn't serve him eggs after 11:24 am and his sob story he walked forever to get there. His time management problems shouldn't factor in to the review if this place. This place is great before and after 11:24 am.
Astrid Lim
Great place for lunch! The food is super delicious, the price is still ok. The line is pretty long though even at the after lunch hours. And they don't have that many seats so either you have to wait or just do the takeaway.
D 23
I got the Reuben sandwich for my wife. She's very particular about what toppings go on a proper Reuben, and she verified that the sandwich from Middle Child was legit in every way. Five stars **** from a happy wife and her happier husband. 😁
Steven P Taylor
I had the best breakfast sandwich I ever had in this place. WOW! This place is a hole in the wall type, but if you want a fantastic sandwich, Middle Child is for you!
Doug Konarska
Great food. Friendly staff. Awesome music. Best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Kudos to the chef.
Natalie Caldwell
YAS QUEEN. Sandwich shop that is on point. The beauty of the Shopsin Club is *chef’s kiss*. The taste is even better.
Jonathan Bressler
Best sandwich and staff in Philly. Suggest you order ahead online bc lines are common
Anne B
Good food but if you don't want to wait, pick up your sandwich 30 minutes later than they say it will be ready (or stand and wait that long)
Austin K
The staff are super cool, great music, delicious food. The Hershel is the best breakfast sandwich around
April S
The pictures on their IG account look better than what I received. It taste ok, I had a much better sandwich (visually and taste) from Hershels in the Reading Terminal, what you see is what you get there. Definitely had me feeling like the middle child 😞😭😂 …
Charles Miller
Best Reuben ever!
Worth a special trip to Philadelphia
Down To The Felt
Hell of a good breakfast sandwich.
Eri Gold
Sandwich was dank and I appreciate that Middle Child has a personality/vibe/attitude that is decidedly individualistic.
Matt Couzens
Love the food. Mochi (the person) is amazing and always makes us glad we went. One of our go-to spots for sure!
daniele mesiti
sandwiches cant get more perfect than these. i got the so long sal and lemme just say the artichoke spread on this thing just elevates something so simple to a-whole-nother level. im usually not keen on sharp provolone but the slight funk helped cut through all the rich amazing salty profiles. obviously arugula is a peppery crunch but generally i can trust anything here is probably amazing. also my lighthearted behavior while i ordered and asked for a large coffee funny enough i got a free babka. so the staff is just top notch.
also dont yell out bad music selections. nobody likes your subpar band.
Alexi Bennink
These sandwiches will change your life. You cannot go wrong here. A must try in Philly.
Dylan DelPiano
One of the best sandwich shops i have ever been to! If you are around in late summer look for the BLTs!
John O'Brien
Really excellent. A little expensive but a huge value. Super high quality food makes this a must do place for breakfast and lunch.
Scott Pawlowski
Sandwiches are huge, out of the world on great bread! We ate inside. Just a handful of tables and counter where you can eat and watch the staff cook. Comraderie among staff is fun to listen to. Plan ahead for the lunch rush is always busy.
Callie L
I live in the FL Keys and traveled to Philly just to eat lunch at Middle Child. I’ve been following them on insta for a bit & they exceeded expectations. The phoagie was AWESOME. I’m not vegan, but I LOVE finding places that can actually combine fresh ingredients, season it well, and it just happens to also be vegan. That was THIS HOAGIE. So Long Sal was a modern twist on the Italian, and yup, freaking AWESOME too. The seeded bread these sandwiches are on is what makes me miss living in Philly. Literally you cannot find this bread where I live. I finished it off w/ the Ruben, which was killer! And don’t forget to grab some sour pickles. Thank you Middle Child. It truly was worth leaving an island to visit your spot.
Robert Kim
Amazing! The Herschel blew me away! The potato Layla was fantastic! And best of all, the service was so warm and welcoming that I will make this my favorite place to visit in Philly whenever I’m in town! Loved it! Max was the person who took my order and he was awesome!
Jessica Flowers
Great for delicious gluten free sandwiches! Obviously a wait for allergies as they are sure to clean all the equipment. They make the gf bread and it's so good.
Carol Schaeffer
This was our first stop off the train from NYC for a weekend in Philly and this place has one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. I had the Bye Felicia, which was the veggie version of the So Long Sal with delicata squash replacing the meat. Good lord almighty it was amazing. My boyfriend had the reuben, which was also fantastic. Staff was also really friendly and great! Definitely saving this spot for any future trips to Philadelphia.
B Faulkner
Very pleasant staff. I think the chairs outside are cute. People are walking on the sidewalk very close to you. Walked to this place from Penn Hospital for breakfast. My egg, cheese, turkey sandwich was huge. First bite it tasted like a salt sandwich. The salt was unbearable. I couldn't finish it. My friend ate his because he said he didn't want to waste his money. 2 sandwiches 2 drinks $33. Nice setup cute location love the open window concept but work on the cooking part please.
Sara Hirschler
The best, most incredible sandwiches in town! Sometimes you have to wait a little bit for them- but it’s worth the wait- like most good things. The Phoagie and Bye Felicia are our favorites. The cold brew is delicious, too! We did have a little snafu with one of our orders once and they were extremely accommodating and more than made up for their mistake. Love Middle Child!
Kelly Pollick
The best sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life!!!
Manju Mathew
Best BLT I've ever had. The only issue is that it's not always available.
Morgan McGuire
Great sandwiches. Kind counter staff. The vibes are right.
Pretty Peachy
The food was really delicious, I will definitely be going back. Clean place, friendly staff & great music, Classic Hip Hop!! Can't wait to go back!! ❤
Kiana Ferrell
So I was skeptical about ordering from this place. I'm not typically a sandwich shop kinda person and the menu was so small. However, I went ahead and ordered their reuben sandwich (sauce on the side as I'm not typically a mayo person). WOW! I don't regret ordering from them one bit and would have missed out on such a delicious sandwich. I can't talk about their other items because I havent had anything other than the reuben but that alone has me wanting to go back for more! And I mentioned how I originally was planning to omit the sauce? Well I braved up and tried the sauce. Even THAT was amazing. Completed the sandwich nicely if you ask me. I've been craving them all week and am looking forward to picking up a few to take home this weekend.
Jason Holtzman
Literally just took the last bite of my breakfast sandwich and felt compelled to write about it. Middle Child has the best breakfast sandwich in Philly that I've had, hands down. Every single part of it from the eggs to the bread to the cheese to the arugula is perfection. Their lunch items are also incredible, especially the rueben, but not to the point where I felt like I needed to write a review. I never write reviews.... don't pass up on this place.
Absaroka Mann-Wood
I always get the So Long Sal and it never disappoints. Definitely recommend!
ED B
One of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had on earth. I doctored it with their hot sauce and then took the short drive to Washington Sq Together. I enjoyed it in the late morning sun. Glorious. I imagine all of their sandwiches are par excellence. Oh, and be prepared to wait for your sandwich. For me it was worth it.
Livi
Celiacs rejoice! The gluten free focaccia at Middle Child will have you feeling like the spoiled youngest child! Highly recommend the breakfast egg and cheese sandwich with arugula. It was darn good and not just good for gluten free!
Ellie Lo
BEST sandwich EVER.
I don't really eat sandwich all that much before I stumbled upon middle child, but this place turns me into a sandwich lover.
Yes, their sandwich is that good, like life-changing good!!!
My favorites are the surfer and phoagie, plus any limited time special sandwiches. Either way, you would not go wrong with anything on the menu.
Chelsea Christensen
Such an amazing little sandwich shop - the staff was super friendly, the vibe very approachable and the sandwiches were amazing!! I got the Surfer and the turkey was some of the best I've ever had. The jam was also subtle but added a really unique flavor. My mom got the Reuben which was also fantastic! Big portion, so can easily be split into 2 meals. Definitely recommend stopping in for either carryout or a quick sit-down breakfast or lunch!
Bilal Motley
Great food. Very welcoming.
Charisma Nguyen
Favorite sandwiches in Philly! The Shopsin is a MUST but every other sandwich is delicious (I also love the Reuben and So Long Sal). The friendliest staff ever and I just could not recommend this place more!
Drew Fagin
One of the best sandwiches I’ve had in the the city
Eric Leung
Pork Roll breakfast sandwich and Turkey breakfast sandwich were awesome! My girlfriend and I wanted a late breakfast and this hit the spot! Their staff is super friendly and the spot is cozy. The menu is awesome and just dining in really quick everyone's meals looked terrific! Definitely number 1 spot for quick bites that satisfy all breakfast/lunch tastes
Steve “The Dude”
Well, what can I say, you definitely need to check this place out, because if you didn't, you are definitely missing out on deliciousness.
Danielle Sydnor
Delicious and fresh light sandwiches. Lots of flavor. Order on online and pick up at the door.
Jordan H
I mean idk, it all depends I guess right? So I'm giving them 5 stars cause it's a local business, they aren't bad, cool vibe, nice ppl etc...but the sandwiches are just okay. Good for Philly standards, there's like no good sandwich shops in all of Philly (apart from places with roast pork and cheesesteaks) so not a lot of competition. This place is solid but wouldn't even be top 20 in Chicago (probably wouldn't even survive in Chicago).
I personally hated the breakfast sandwiches, not at all crushable (if you want a delicious $3.50 breakfast sandwich that blows middle child out of the water then go to the stand on 10th Street, between Sansom and Chestnut....you will not be disappointed). Lunch sandwiches are solid at Middle child. Again, no competition in the area for cold deli sandwiches so they have a good thing going.
Cody Basch
We both enjoyed our clubs. The sandwich was super fresh and flavorful. The bread is super crispy for those of you that don't prefer it that way
Maria Pedraza
Had breakfast here and it was delicious. My first thought as I was waiting for my order was that it was taking a long time to prepare. Since I wasn't in a hurry, I wasn't pressed and went with it. Once I got my sandwich, it all fell into place. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly delicious. Fluffy eggs, perfectly toasted bread, and crispy bacon. Worth every second of the wait.

Amazing sandwiches on delicious bread. The Shopsin Club is the best club sandwich I’ve ever had. Great pickles!
Simple menu, counter service, limited seating but it’s a sandwich shop so people aren’t staying forever and seats come up quickly.
Warm and friendly service and very cool space.
100% recommend for breakfast and lunch.
Jen Iglar
Ok, so obviously everyone knows these sandwiches are insane. My experience today just took things to another level though. I placed an order for delivery and about 45 min later I got a call from MC asking if I got my order. Apparently there was a mix up with couriers picking up the wrong bags. I let them know nothing was delivered and they told me they'd send out a new order. Not long after that, they called back to let me know my new order was on the way and not to worry if I got an email saying it was canceled because they refunded me for the entire thing. Umm.. how amazing!! My sandwich arrived a few minutes later and not only did they comp my entire purchase, they also threw in a few bags of chips. DUDE. Not only are these life changing sandwiches.. these are good freaking people!!
Jonathan Fung
One of the best sandwich shops I have ever visited. They have an open kitchen and you can see that the employees clearly put care and effort into their work--it shows when you taste the food. Cold brew was also great here.
SeungYong Han
I stayed in the area for some days, and this restaurant was THE place for my lunch everyday. Their sandwiches are amazingly good. The ingredients are very balanced and mixed well together, taste-wise. As soon as you open a wrap, you know that it's going to be a very delicious sandwich. I wish I could try other menus as well. Highly recommend if you are closeby.
Zarah Zu vlogs
I just want to say this is by far the best gluten free sandwich I've had since I found out that I have a gluten intolerance back in September!.... The guys that work there are all hilarious humorous fellas! You can tell that they love their jobs and really work well with one another! I stumbled across this place when I was in desperate need of some gluten free friendly food on my lunch break. Which it is surprisingly hard to find a good gluten free sandwich anywhere in the city I might add! Lol you can find the occasional bagel and pastry shops a plenty, but damn I just really missed eating a good sandwich! This place did NOT disappoint! The other thing I liked was the price of the amount of food you get wasn't that bad either! Most people price gouge the hell out of their gluten free menu items (which is such bs!), but the mark up here isn't terrible. I'm definitely going back for more! Oh and the pickles are so freaking good I can't. Yum yum yum yum! Be prepared for a small wait if you go during lunch hour or call ahead. It gets really packed in there. I'm so glad I found this place! 😍
Kareem Ahmed
Best reuben sandwich in Center City. Place is clean and bright. Staff is cool and friendly. They have some gluten free options which was a pleasant surprise. I wish they stay open a little later than 3 pm. One of my favorite sandwich places in Center City.
Hildegard Kent
I've been going there since they 1st. opened. Excellent Food. The absolute best Egg Sandwich in Philadelphia. But so are their other Offerings. The Staff is always friendly, & helpful. Always great atmosphere, & Music.I just love MIDDLE CHILD.
I still go to MIDDLE CHILD on a regular basis, even well over a Year. They never disappoint in their Food Offerings, always very consistent in quality, & taste.
Tara Knight
Delicious food, fun atmosphere, kind service
Ipek Tezol
Worth the wait! The best sandwiches!!
Fatemeh Seyfi
Cute atmosphere and they have great egg sandwiches. I don’t recommend the tomato soup, it tastes like tomato paste and they give no toast with it.
Sam Lampl
I was lucky enough to have a sandwich here 6 months ago and it was delicious! HOWEVER, for the past 3 months I haven't been able to even place an order or call the store to place an order. Whenever I try to order online it says online ordering unavailable. So annoying!
Sam Naseef
Cool spot with delicious food. Had the Hershel Waker breakfast sandwich and will have it again next time I'm in the area
Chris Sciolla
This is one of my favorite joints in Philly. Both breakfast and lunch items are incredible. Personal favorite is the So Long Sal! If you’re an Italian hoagie fan, this has your name on it. If you’re picking up it’s best to call ahead because the wait can be a while. But regardless it’s worth it every time.
F A
The sandwiches were pretty good but it doesn’t travel well as the bread got soggy too fast before getting home. I just wish they use type of sanwich breads that holds itself from being sogged out
Gloria Marandola
My first time there, great food! Disappointed though that a rude couple stayed at their outside table long after they were done eating. They had to know we were waiting to sit down as we stood there for 15 minutes with our bag of food. We ended up leaving and ate in our car.
Akash mahajan
This has become a go to destination for our weekend brunch. Been here four times now and it's always been consistent. The Phogie is my go to sandwich, and the times I'm not overly hungry then I just order their scrambled eggs and avacado. Seating is limited, but tells you how good the place is.
Candis Robinson
Go if you are nearby! Quality ingredients, fluffy and delicious eggs that melt in your mouth. Fresh squeezed orange juice and multiple vegetarian options. I will definitely go back and I recommend the egg sandwich!
Abdul Ekiyoyo
The surfer! One of the best sandwiches
Bre Furlong
This quickly became my go-to after one visit. This is the most brilliant place that has ever opened in Philly. The signage is hilarious, the food is delicious, the guys who work there are accommodating and down to earth, and the overall design is really smart. If I can give you a vibe: This place feels like that guy who woke the house up blasting Springsteen and making breakfast sandwiches in Art School decided to open the shop of his dreams to cure all of your hangovers and Monday Blues. It's perfect, simple, and uniquely nostalgic. They also have the best gluten free bread I've ever had, which is honestly all it takes for me to fall in love. Marry me Middle Child!
Malek Hudson
This place feels like a 1940s diner without the racism. Everything they make is fresh af and so are the people behind the counter. The eggs phenomenal, the arugula phenomenal, the bread(I don't even know what type of bread they use and I don't even care) phenomenal. Everything is bomb. Everyone here is incredibly nice. Wish they had more locations. Would go here every day if it was closer to me.
Maria Iliadi
First time trying a turkey Reuben sandwich🥪It was absolutely amazing!! …
Michael Slonkosky
Best sandwich place in the city, loved the Reuben and So Long Sal. However, sandwiches don’t come with a side like fries. And especially if you have a party greater than one, don’t expect to find a seat easily between 11-2.
Sara Zollars
Awesome food, service and vibe. We had the breakfast sandwich and the Hershel Waker. I love when you eat somewhere and you can tell the food is made with care and pride in their craft. Tastes like love! Thank you!
Sean Malone
These are among the greatest sandwiches in Philadelphia. The Rueben was particularly remarkable
Marilyn Acosta
Go before the lunch rush and grab a seat at the counter. The portions are filling and delicious. It does get crowded at lunch time since it isn’t a big space so consider take out. This place is popular for a reason.
There’s a water station, plenty of napkins, and a clean bathroom.
Sydney Bromfield
The best sandwiches I've ever eaten (NOT AN EXAGGERATION). Also the staff is suppppper friendly and whoever runs the instagram is hilarious.
If you want to be happy, get yourself a sandwich (I personally would eat the shopsin for every meal for the rest of my life).
Laurence Walsh
My partner and I stumbled upon this gem while walking towards Liberty Hall. We ordered a delicious avocado turkey sandwich and spent the next 45 minutes talking about everything Philadelphia with the owner and the two chefs behind the counter. The open concept kitchen is a great experience for the foodie or the odd observer. It was great to see masterful sandwichs being made in such a Conscious and creative manner.
Robert Benjamin Moore
Awesome customer service! Really good food too! God Bless 🙏 …
Charlie Chen
Love the place. Their sandwiches are always tasty and the pickles are amazing.
Mieke Houbrechts
Woah, go for The Surfer! I never thought turkey and blueberry jam would go together so well. Delicious and very big sandwich, so make sure you are either very hungry, or have someone to split it with.
Aran Ryan
Lively little spot. The Phoagie sandwich was a delicious, just spicy enough combination of eggplant, avocado, sauce and more... on a Sarcone's roll no less. Large front windows open to sidewalk, with outdoor seating available. Service was quick and attentive. Looking forward to returning soon.
Jimmy Schneider
This place is going to be a staple for years to come. I cannot wait to eat my way through their website tire selection of sandwiches. I started off with the pastrami since they were out of Sarcone's rolls and although it may not stack up visually against some of the famous Jewish delis in Manhattan, there was an undeniable zest and flavor that I had to mention to the lovely people behind the counter.
Lauren & Eric
I have been meaning to stop by Middle child for awhile now. My friends have highly recommend this place and today I see why. I ordered the Phoagie this visit and to say I was impressed is an understatement. This delicious sandwich was fushion at its finest.
The staff was incredibly freindly and helpful. The menu is not to large but that is perfect for me. They do what they do and they do it well. I look forward to returning soon for another mouth watering treat.
Annie
Got a sausage egg and cheese there which was on the pricey side. DON'T get the sausage egg and cheese though. They use one sausage link cut in half for the large sandwich so it's not evenly distributed. The sandwich was good otherwise. I would come back for just the egg and cheese sandwich or to try their other sandwiches.
Mary Lowman
Good place for sandwiches. Breakfast served all day! Staff is very nice and personable. Only thing I didn’t like is that add onz are so much extra and they don’t put much on (only put on half my sandwich).
Rob S
Not bad but def did not live up to the hype. Got the Surfer: turkey, a blueberry jam, and greens on ciabatta. It tasted fine. Nothing really jumped out at me in terms of taste, which was kind of disappointing given that combo. What did jump out at me was how oily the whole thing was. I don’t have a problem with oil, but my hands were just covered in it trying to eat this thing (and there was already mayo and the blueberry jam on it, so it didn’t exactly need extra wet ingredients. I’ll definitely give it another shot at some point but I was not impressed this time around.
Gregory Varghese
The food was really good. It's a small place and the wait is a little long. The only reason for 3 stars was because my wife found a hair in her sandwich. I would recommend the staff to wear proper head covering to prevent such accidents.
Angela Hou
Cute and casual breakfast/brunch/lunch place with mostly sandwich options. A lot of unique combinations that you may not find at a typical restaurant. Good for takeout, also has limited seating inside. They serve Elixr coffee; as a plus, coffee of any size is only $2 (tax included) for Jefferson and Penn students and employees!
They also sell a few unique grocery items, including Marmite, Pocky, and a really good chili oil sauce I've only seen in Asian stores.
Chris Storey
Reuben and Shopsin sandwich were delicious. Very small sitting area. The pickles are decent. No cooked sides detracts a little bit. Haven't had breakfast.
M C
Best BLT I've ever had!!!
William Richard
Just an amazing Deli, oozing charm and passion.
Gabrielle Vitale
My friends and I go here at least once a week! Thank you for extending breakfast so that I can still get my egg fix while my egg hating friends get the Rueben.
Caitlin Krivosheyev
I have heard such good things about this place, and maybe I just had too high expectations. I was very underwhelmed by the food. It certainly wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as people describe it to be. To each their own, right?
Arielle P
I mean, its reputation precedes it. It's absolutely fantastic and if you dont try it you're missing out. Stop making excuses like I did and just go and have your mind blow. Vegetarian options, fun candy, and delicious sides. Plus the Reuben is to die for.
Jeremy Vital
These guys definitely know how to make good food in a limited kitchen setup. The "El Salador" is one of my favorite salads around. However, i think they need to expand their vegetarian options more -- the only available regular menu items are the Phoagie and grilled cheese. The occasional cauliflower specials are decent, but definitely less inspired than their meat options. More creative veg options would keep me coming back more often.
Brandon Bishop
Had the breakfast sandwich with 🥑 . Eggs were perfectly fluffy and ☕ was good too! Staff was very relaxed and helpful. Highly recommend stopping in if you are in the area. …
Gabe Spence
Amazing. There aren't any other words. The breakfast sandwich is big and cheap and insanely delicious. The eggs are so light and fluffy I couldn't believe it. The staff was happy and helpful and I'll definitely be back.
Kelvin Johnson
Excellent sandwiches and the staff was friendly and welcoming!
Antoinette Bruno
A daytime eatery in the Washington Square West neighborhood that has captured the spirit of the city and heart of the industry with menu chock-full of downright deliciousness, including Vietnamese “Phoagies” and a corned beef-American cheese egg sandwich named the Herschel Walker. Philadelphia Magazine named Middle Child the “Best Breakfast of 2018.”
Marcel Maldonado
Amazing sandwiches and soups!
Fresh, creative sandwiches filled with so much flavor and love.
I've tried the Hershel Waker(3 times) filled with homemade corned beef, eggs cheese and yummy toasted rye.
I've also had the Phoegie which is a signature sandwich similar Vietnamese Ban mi sandwiches but a little different featuring instead eggplant and cilantro and so many yummy vegetables. Just a mouth implosion of flavor it's nuts. A must try!
GF tried the Shopsin Club which was also super fresh turkey and super yummy.
Today I tried the celery soup with an olive oil drizzle and previously I've had the tomato soup with the same drizzle, both super fresh, touch of cream and tasty.
They serve good coffee from Elixir Roasters and also have other beverages.
I can't wait to try all their other sandwich concoctions ASAP.
Gabriella Sunyak
Food was fantastic, service was awesome, and the people were so nice! 10/10 would visit again
Mike Marandola
Got the standard breakfast platter, I don't know how breakfast could get any better. Prices, food, and service were all really great. Middle Child is going to become a regular breakfast spot for me from now on.
Patrick Hilden
Unbelievable food here! Best reuben I have ever eaten! Will definitely be back many times. It can get pretty busy so call ahead if you want to pick up.
Tiffany
This was, honestly, the sandwich of my life. They are really sweet and friendly and I really appreciate their gluten free bread- option. Ill recommend all my friends to visit when theyre in Philly.
Shay Laderbush
Excellent food. Friendly staff. Celiac prep for the best tasting gluten free breakfast sandwich I’ve had!
Kacie Riebman
Fantastic! Highly recommend the Herschel for breakfast and YOU MUST TRY THE HASH BROWN! It will change your life! For lunch, the Shopsin Club is great!
Noah Wolfe
All positive. Good food. Friendly staff. Great music. 10/10
Ryan Mark
Almost good enough to make me want to be a middle child.
The eggs are amazing. Every sandwich is the best I’ve ever had.
THEY USE NUGGET ICE!!!!!!!!!
Nuf’ said.
Seriously. Try everything and buy a hilarious shirt.
Potatolle POTATO
First time here and curious about the buzz. It totally lives up to the hype. My turkey Reuben was amazing. The perfect rye crunch on the bread and the interior balance of turkey, gooey cheese, saurekraut and russian was seriously to die for.
Andrea DelPriore
I had my first Middle Child experience today and it was incredible. The staff is super friendly and helpful and I had the best club sandwich in my 35 years on this earth. 10/10 would go every day.
Mohammed Ibrahim
I always get the surfer when I come here. That blueberry Marsala jam really is a game changer. The employees there are really chill too
Steve Dankert
Great Ruben sandwich and very friendly staff. This place is a victim of it's own success as the crowd was much larger than they can serve so my food was slow to be ready. Go when it is slow and you will love the food.
Bill Opper
Great breakfast sandwiches and Reuben, you get what you pay for in portion and quality. Staff is always friendly.
Nick Whitmer
I’m a New Yorker, and I never thought I’d ever get corned beef better than Katz’s or 2nd Ave Deli. Well, Middle Child puts them to shame! Best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. Amazing service too.
Chip S
Hershel Walker breakfast sandwich was excellent... The scrambled eggs in the sandwich were fluffy and prepared to perfection... Coffee was an unexpected surprise.. very good... rich and no bitter taste... Staff was friendly and helpful.. modest menu... price is on par for center city
Ellison Heil
Delicious Sandwiches and witty atmosphere. A must have in Philadelphia
Sam Solomon
Incredible food and friendly staff. Wife eats gluten free -- their GF bread is great! Awesome sour pickles, too. Nothing disappointed!
Brian Gurka
Ugh what more is there to say. Just a fantastic sandwich shop. We probably go twice a week. Once for breakfast and once for lunch. Don’t think there’s a single thing on the menu that we don’t like.
Sid Anand
I hate your bottom and I loved the sandwich that they made me want your bottle bread it was fresh the ingredients of fresh and everything was so well put together. Focal menu ingredients my top place in Philly to get a fresh sandwich or hoagie.
Joey G
I had originally given this place 4 stars instead of 5 cause of the lack of seating and lines. Let’s be honest. Sandwiches from Middle Child are some of the best in Philly.
Colin Strickland
Great, creative sandwiches. Friendly staff. Snazzy playlist.
Laura Davidow
Run don't walk to get your classic breakfast sammich and brick of hash brown. Very solid. The staff is also very friendly.
Alexis Culp
Always heard the hype and it was worth it! Huge sandwich and good vibes.
Narayan Chowdhury
I am joining Chef Matt's cult. Amazing food, great atmosphere, great service. Like much of Philly cuisine, they don't do a ton of things. They do a few things exceptionally well.
Olivia Gassner
Yum! The sandwich w the jelly on it..
Kevin Ramos
Wow yea I had the shopsin club and I think its the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten. No substitutions! 😝

Had a group order and everyone loved what they got from reubens to phoagies, even though it was delivered the bread managed to stay crisp and not get soggy at all - magic ✨
Katie Patterson
Middle child... you have my heart! I’m late to the game - but a big fan!! The so long sal sandwich is literally a work of art, it’s my favorite hoagie I’ve had (28 years of experience)
Hannah
Friendly staff and really delicious food. It's obvious that they put a lot of attention into every detail of the restaurant. You gotta love a place that calls out the orders of the regulars as soon as they walk in too.
Andrea McGlinsey

This place has the best Turkey Sandwich on planet earth (Turkey Shopsin). They could charge $50 for it and I would still go once a month. Great atmosphere. Great people. If you have not been, what are you waiting for?!
Lauren Soutiere Weisenthal
Lovely people making the best sandwiches in Philly.
Thomas Rhodes
The So Long Sal is hands down my favorite sandwich in the city
Emily Chiarelli
In a city full of sandwiches, it's hard to even consider who might be the best. Middle child is absolutely a part of that conversation--awesome and unique combos with high quality ingredients. I've NEVER had a sliced turkey like theirs. They are so good--breakfast sandwiches are bomb too. Whenever I'm looking for a mid work week lunch treat, middle child is the answer
Sophie Zionts
wonderful sandwiches, wonderful staff! very transparent about expenses and providing a living wage for their staff! a business I am always thrilled to support <3
Jess Sember
aside from the food here being incredible, the staff and atmosphere really make it worth the trip. Don’t come for a rushed lunch break, come to really sit down and enjoy your food and the people around you. You can feel all the hard work and care they put into every aspect. Feels like a little escape from reality (with a delicious sandwich).
Tabiya Ahmed
Some of the best sandwiches in Philly. Unique and fun flavors and really really good ingredients. Don’t even get me started on the BLT/ALT season—I dream about that sandwich sometimes. The people who work there are so fun and chill—last time I was there everyone was jamming out to a Taylor Swift playlist and the vibes were phenomenal. Middle Child has a very special place in my heart!!!!
Alexis
The best sandwiches in Philly. Maybe the northeast. I honestly don’t know how they sell them for the prices they do. For Super Bowl, they offered giant hoagies and insanely great prices. I can’t imagine the work that went into them. They only built in 20% for tip. Adding more was a no brained.
Jacob Leibowitz
Best sandwiches in the city by far. And the vibe of the place - especially the staff - is unmatched. They make you feel like the coolest kid on the block the second you walk in, and you’ll immediately want to be friends with everyone that works there (and buy all their merch too). Also, can’t recommend enough their event catering. They were gracious enough to make the biggest hoagie I’ve ever seen for my Super Bowl party, and everyone went crazy over it. Would’ve payed more for it if I could’ve :)
Katie Yuen
The surfer is the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life and it’s not even close. Staff is always so kind and the environment is so fun. Highly rec
Alexis Kelly
Always delicious, always friendly, always weird (in a good way)! Love middle child! Get the surfer
Max Miller
One of my favorites! Love the food and the vibe - these guys rock fr!
Kathryn Distler
A cute, friendly spot with great sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. I'd love to be able to comment on more of the food, but I get the So Long Sal 95% of the time because it's just too good. There isn't a ton of seating (a few small tables and seats along a small bar), so I'm always happy when I can grab one so I don't have to wait to eat!
Love that they have vegetarian, vegan, and GF options as well.
Tyler Blakeman
The Shopsin Club will remain one of the best sammies I have ever had.

5 star establishment all day. The vibe, the HOAGIES, the ambiance… oh BABY! I live in California and still think about Middle Child regularly. Every time I’m out east I go out of my way to hit Philly just for Middle Child. Send all my friends there while they pass through. If you go to Philly and don’t stop here— you’re doing it wrong.

Long live Middle Child! The sandwiches, culture, and people are all A++. Some of the best sandwiches ever, including a few unique hoagie renditions. Love the Shopsin, Surfer, and Baller Classic (one of the rare turkey hoagies that excites me). Anything turkey is wonderful but so is the rest so you literally can’t go wrong. They consistently run delicious specials, too. In addition to the flawless products and super nice employees, they do business in a way that’s kind, honest, and transparent.

Since moving to Philly in 2020, I come here once a month, sometimes twice a month and I usually get the same thing. Shopsin Club with no avocado, and a hash brown. The sandwich never misses, they have outstanding music taste, and the people that work there are dope.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? If I ever end up on death row, Middle Child will be my last meal

If you want the absolute premier sandwich experience in the world, this is the spot. If you don't believe in tipping, move to Europe, where they have an assortment of not-as-good gourmet options.
Everyone at Middle Child is a stand up righteous citizen. Ladies&gents. Role models you might say. Take notes other restaurants!
