Can’t wait to try more! Had the Wednesday Special when I stopped in for lunch. It was so good, filled with meat, toppings and hot peppers. Delicious flavor too. There are so many options to try and can keep discovering more favorites. The place looked well-maintained, tables and booths were clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Like I said, can’t wait to try more amazing sandwiches!

Fantastic sandwich shop! Delicious offerings and a very expansive menu. The side dishes were really good, if you're in the Des Moines area, and want a fantastic sandwich, make the stop here. Parking in the rear so don't fear!

So worth a trip when you're craving a delicious sandwich! The sandwiches are creative, fresh, and so tasty. The parking options aren't always great (especially when they're at their busiest) but it's worth it even if you have to drive around the area a few times before settling into a spot. They are so friendly at the counter and always willing to answer questions, and you can tell how proud they are of the food they're making for their customers. This is the kind of place that collects "regulars," and for good reason.

sandwiches are about 70% of the size they were under previous ownership and prices have increased nearly 70%. I have frequented the deli since I was a child and it’s disappointing to see this drop off. Last time I was there both of the sandwiches we ordered were “Hot” Sandwiches and were served to us cold. This was during a lunch rush and can’t help but think how many others had this same experience that given day. Don’t cut corners to serve your bottom line. will continue to visit, as when done properly the food is excellent. and yes, I know you were recently voted “best deli” but soon enough you won’t ride the coattails of those who came before you and set high expectations. True locals can attest to a decline.

This place has a great location and a good vibe but the only thing holding it back from excellence is the use of the microwave. I got Thursdays special last week and you could tell it was microwaved because of the cold spots inside of the sandwich. Sandwich was good aside from it being microwaved.

Austin the manager took care of my order the other day, he was so helpful polite and generous. My sandwich was perfect, he accommodated every one of my needs changed on my sandwich with NO problem. The maddison is a MUST TRY! Definitely will be coming back again.

I have been going to this deli (different management over time) since the 1960's. I was friends with the Bassman's who owned it for so many years. It is a busy place over the noon hour, but no matter what time you go you will get a good sandwich and whatever else you want. They have a good staff there and they know how to crank those orders out quickly while still giving you high quality. Over time, I have tried going different times, and sometimes I go when they are not very busy at all and it is much more enjoyable, but a deli is a deil! The parking is the main problem here, with limited Ingersoll space to park. Many people car pool because it is a better bet to get a parking place. It's been difficult since Covid, but they have done the best they can and have kept things nice and clean and followed all of the rules to keep their employees safe as well as their customers. Even though this is under different management, (Hansen's now) and I miss Dave and Betty and the others who used to work behind the counter, but time goes on. It's good to know the quality of the food is still top notch as it was in the 1960-70's! This is, for so many who work or even live in the downtown or Des Moines Ingersoll area, a staple to visit on a regular basis throughout the year.

This is pure pleasure in a styrofoam box. This sandwich cracks your back and scratches your scruff and reminds you of all the good things in life. It also playfully disintegrates on you, everything being too much for the pillowy hoagie bun, sending you on a whimsical scavenger hunt on your lap and various parts of your car for runaway bits. Finally it leaves a delightful memory, a reliable, delicious sandwich memory you can enjoy at any time - when vacuuming, when getting your legs waxed or when someone is screaming at you.

The hardest part about going here is deciding what sandwich you want. Their menu is amazing. I had the Little Italy. Why 4 stars. Their hours 10-3 Monday through Saturday. Unable to go during the work week and its closed when I get off work, then many times will pick up a deli sandwich on Sunday for work on Monday. They are closed. Love this place just wish it fit my hours better. I would definitely eat here more often.

Great food and even better people - can’t ask for much more! I placed a catering order with Manhattan Deli for a work event. Cheyanne called me the day of to confirm the order and pickup. The sandwiches were ready right when she said they would be and the 4 gentleman behind the counter were welcoming and charming. There was nothing but praise for the sandwiches which were a mix of the Brianna, Manhattan & Reuben. The sandwiches were stacked full of meat and flavor. The potato salad is unique and out of this world delicious. Believe all the of the great reviews - they are 100% true.

3.75 stars. Parking is around back. Decent food but the cold sandwhiches always sound better then they are (could very well be a me thing but ive tried 3 different ones now so idk). Just stick to hot subs and I'm sure you'll be less dissatisfied then myself. Sides are always tasty!

Been here twice! Amazing delicious food both times and quick service! Fun sandwiches mostly italian style! My mom loves the Little Italy and I had a Momma Mia I think it was called? Both had great flavor, tons of meat, but good balance! Love the pasta salad too! Reasonably priced and has a diner vibe:)

Good place to get a sandwich. Just FYI the hoagies are NOT real east coast hoagies. They use soft spongy bread, and I guess italian dressing is considered hoagie dressing LOL. Not bad for the midwest but this isnt even close to what you get on the east coast. Basically a mom and pop subway, with a little more flair.

I went here for lunch today and had the Tuesday special. It was very good! I especially loved the potato salad and the bread they use. The bread is sooo soft and fresh. I can't wait to come back and try more things. I saw another review that mentions this but the downloadable menu on their website has different pricing than in person. It's about a dollar higher than the online menu shows, but well worth it and super reasonable. I got a sandwich and a side of potato salad for less than $11.

The best deli in the area hands down! I've been a customer for 30 years and have never been disappointed. Glad to see the Hansen's are keeping the same menu and have even added several new items. The food is always fresh and they don't skimp on the meat. I often drive from West Des Moines just to hit the Manhattan Deli. Keep up the great job guys!

First time here & wish we had gone sooner! We had the Fall special (Turkey Todd) & could not have loved this seasonal creation more-HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We also had the Maddison which was spicy & delicious, as well as the cheese soup of the day, the Italian pasta (creamy base as opposed to oil), & the seafood salad (that had a spicy kick). Absoutely solid soup & sides! The deli is clean & the staff is incredibly efficient-even during busy times! Construction always sucks, especially right now, but it is still worth it to stop in & support local (just park around back)! We will definitely be back many, many more times!!!

A must. Many don’t know about maybe due to hours of operation or cause there’s no need to advertise. That’s because they’re always busy and if you don’t have a lot of time then it’s best to call in an order to pickup to go. This is a staple of Des Moines and once you’ve had it you’ll go out of your way to go back time after time year after year and take family and friends to indulge in the greatness. Fresh!!! Homemade pasta salads, and macaroni, potato salads . They also have pumpkin bars and chocolate chip cookies ( HOMEMADE) . Many varieties of sandwiches. Also made fresh with tons of options. You’ll wonder what all the buzz is about til you try it then you’ll be stung by the satisfaction fairies and gods of scrumptiousness . They have chips as an option for a side too with some fountain pops, tea, water. Thursday is their sausage sandwich special.. ( only day it’s served). Specials include : (Around $10-$12) Sandwich of the according day and get chips/cookie and pop. It’s casual, dress , so dressed up for work ? That’s fine. Just lounging around and in sweats ? Stopped here passing through on a road trip. The menu selection is huge! There is definitely something for everyone. The sandwich was made really fast, so we could get back on the road quickly. And the salted caramel cookie was top notch! I will definitely come back the next time I'm passing through.

Finally made it down to Manhattan Deli after hearing about it from so many around town. So glad I finally made it down and cant believe I wanted so long. I got a Charlie & some Macaroni Salad. Both were so good. Tough to make deli original but they pull it off. Also, the Mac Salad was original and very good. I will be back for sure. Oh, the staff was wicked friendly as well. Great job!

The service was good. We waited a little for the sandwiches, but that was expected given the amount of people there. The only thing I'd critique is the bread. The hoagie rolls are not what I expected. I grew up in PA and NY so I'm familiar with an authentic NY deli. I thought the sandwich was good, but the bread was like a subway roll. Maybe I'm being too critical.. still a 4 star deli! Great quality in deli meat. I'd go back and try their hot sandwiches for sure.

Used to be a solid 5 star. The new owners are not friendly so you lose the atmosphere. Food is still good but service is not great. They serve people who order after you so no organization. Just read the owner's response to me in the past of aggression this guarantees that I'll never be back. The professional response would be to learn what you did wrong and see how it can be resolved. I leave a negative feedback if a location does poorly. It's a way for them to get better, not berate the person who left the review.

We were very hungry after walking in the nearby city park and were just googling nearby restaurants. I landed on Manhattan Deli and was glad I did!! They made marvelous, thick sandwiches from all kinds of deli meat and cheese, peppers and veggies, and condiments. I had my favorite which is a Reuben which had all the requisites of corned beef, swiss cheese, saurkraut, sauce, and marble rye. The bread was delicious and thick and the ingredients were piled high. I really could have made two meals of this but as mentioned before, I was hungry!! I powered that sandwich down!!

This place makes a great sandwich. This is not a fancy date place, but a great place to get quick amazing deli food. It can be very busy at lunch time, especially on Fridays. They used to be a call only business, but I believe they take credit cards now. There is also an ATM on sight if needed. The parking is around back or on the side street if it's full.

Long line over lunch hour but it moved quickly. They have a good system going - I ordered four sandwiches to go for $28 and they came out within 5 minutes after placing. No photo because I ate my sandwich too fast. I could have had a little bigger portion, but on a day when I'm not starving it would have been just right. Definitely has a family owned, mom and pop shop deli vibe, but I love it and the food.

First time there yesterday and it was excellent. The sandwich was loaded with meat and very tasty. The wait was worth it. The owner was very nice and very understanding when I didn't know they didn't take the money card only take cash or checks. They do have a money machine there. My bill was $17 and I only had $15 in cash but she was willing to let it slid. Very sweet lady. Had extra money in the car and came back and paid her. The place was very busy and had a very diverse crowd. Nice to see a small neighborhood place that felt warm and inviting. Will be going back and telling my friends about this great place to eat

My favorite place to grab lunch in DSM! Now that I live out-of-state, I always make Manhattan a stop when I come back to visit. I've never had a bad sandwich, but the Mitch is my absolute favorite! Can be really busy at peak times, but you can always call ahead to skip the line. It's extra convenient now that they accept credit cards.

Best Deli in Des Moines. Hometown feel. I like to refer it to an orchestra in your mouth. Specials everyday of the week, but all other sandwiches are great. Gets pretty crowded around noon, but people are in and out, so you don't have to wait too long for a seat.

Just discovered this gem. If I told you how often I visit you wouldn't believe me! I love the ambiance, hospitality, hot peppers, warm buns, sauce, and just overall experience. Traditional sandwich shop. Not a lot of parking. Order at counter. During lunch hour on weekday waited about five minutes to order, then about eight minutes for sandwiches to be made. Almost overwhelming choice of sandwiches, hot/cold, hoagie/reg, soups, sides, and the do have "kid-size sandwich" but I didn't see on menu. They have a daily special on sign near register, with sandwich chip/cookie, drink. About $30 for two adults and a kid. Ran out of mac&cheese. Food great! Mostly frequented by locals.

We have eaten here since the mid 1970s, and their food is beyond delicious! My husband has been eating their Rueben sandwich for all these years. I eat something different every time we go, and have enjoyed each sandwich I have eaten. We definitely recommend this deli above all others in the Des Moines area.

I've recently started working in this area and checked out Manhattan Deli for lunch for the first time. Parking on Ingersoll is limited, but this place does have a couple of small parking lots if you can find a spot. You can tell this place is a favorite as it was packed when I walked in with a line to the door. I had a Reuben and a side of their pasta dish. For me, I was disappointed as the Reuben was warm, but the bread wasn't toasted and this ruined the sandwich for me and why I gave it only 3 stars. The pasta salad; however, was delicious and I usually don't like pasta salad. I will probably give this place another chance. I just won't be getting the Reuben again.

Love Manhattan Deli! This is by far a local favorite. My favorite warm sub is the Bambino. I could probably eat one of these every day...although it wouldn't be healthy haha. This place is always pretty busy, which is a testament to their success. If I were to give any criticism, it would be that they only accept cash. But that's pretty small potatoes as their delicious subs outweigh that con. They do have an ATM inside, if you don't happen to have cash. Anyway... I would come back to this place a thousand times!
