The BBQ sandwiches were great. They had a great BBQ flavor and the sauces were exceptionally good. The typical red sauce was very good. The mustard base sauce was outstanding. I had heard that the white sauce was different and I decided to try that as well. I was definitely impressed with the white sauce and would recommend that everyone try it.

Really tasty BBQ, though I don't think I like it more than Midwood out near Fort Jackson. Mainly, that's because it's just sandwiches on white bread with chips. So, the meat is amazing, but it'd be nice if there were more options of how to eat it. Great area, though.

I’ve been a few times and my only two complaints is that the service can be a little slow at times but it’s not offensively slow like some places. My second complaint is that you aren’t doing anything constructive after you eat here. The food is so good that your tongue will knock your teeth out the way to get at it and then you can’t slow down once you start. Plan for a nap. All of their sauces are amazing, their menu is small but perfectly executed. For the record, it would be five stars but the last few times I’ve been, it took a little longer to get served than I would have expected since we were the only people there. I will happily revisit and give them the fifth start when I go back and they’re firing on all cylinders.

If you enjoy pulled pork sandwiches , this is the place to go. They have a large selection if unique pulled pork sandwiches that you will not find anywhere else. The staff is very friendly and its never too crowded. I personally recommend the King Kahuna.

Stopped here for a quick lunch after reading the reviews and it was really good pulled pork BBQ! Pretty much overstuff BBQ sandwiches is what they offer but I had mine without the bread and it was delicious! Excellent sauce selection but it really doesn't need any as the pulled pork is very moist with a nice solid smokey flavor. Great curley fries and tasty homemade cold slaw make it definitely worth the drive from the interstate to the 5 points area near USC. . Although I didn't try any, it had a broad selection of regional craft beers and a very friendly and welcoming wait staff.

This place is spectacular. We make sure to find top Bbq anywhere we can when we travel. Found this place on a top list of Columbia. It is not a typical bbq joint. They have a bunch of amazing sandwiches with mostly BBQ pork. This is a must visit place. My wife had the Grilled cheese. This is a grilled cheese with pulled pork. If you like grilled cheese and BBQ. You won't find a better sandwich. I had the Django which was a spicier sandwich. It was excellent. The spicy sauce was a great addition. My daughter had the Southern belly dipper. It is paired with an Alabama White sauce. It is also knock your socks off. My son had a plain grill cheese. It was one of the best I had ever tasted. He normally eats middle only of a grilled cheese. He smoke every crumb. Honestly, the Django was the 4th best which is nuts because it was great. I can see why this one is climbing top Bbq list of SC. It's deserved.

Simply Breathtaking. Took several days to gather myself after having a lunch here. Fantastic, authentic, BBQ food. EXPLOSIVE sauces. Fries curled to perfection. Did I mention the sauces? This place is a must visit if in Columbia.

Was very excited to check this place out, but I was a little underwhelmed from our experience. We walked in for lunch time around 1pm and it was completely empty and almost thought it was closed. We were greeted soon after and we got our orders put in. Food and drink came out pretty quickly. The sweet tea wasn't sweet at all, and my sandwich buns were completely burnt on the inside so it messed with the flavors of the sandwich. Overall, it wasn't horrible, but I'd rather spend my $30 else where for bbq. UPDATE: We ordered the Southern Belly Dipper and King Kahuna Sandwiches.

First time visiting this restaurant and it was a very pleasant atmosphere. It was not busy and the takeout service was fast. We got the pulled pork grill cheese sandwich which came with fries and some bbq sauce. The only thing is parking was limited on the street where the restaurant was located. We had to park across the street. Traffic was moderate on the road this evening. I would recommend this place only if you are someone who likes pulled pork sandwiches.

Randomly came across this place without checking reviews and decided to stop in for a late night dinner. The menu is basically a couple appetizers and a selection of sandwiches, and then they also serve beer and alcohol. The sandwiches are FANTASTIC. Huge portions of pork bbq. I had the "King Kahuna" sandwich and loved every bite of it. Grilled pineapple and onions on top of it were excellent. Served with a delicious sauce as well. Highly recommend!

A neat bar vibe with great music. The staff are really nice and will guide you in making a menu choice. The food is on another level....insane sandwiches. The coleslaw is also really tasty. This place will succeed.

The Wookie is an awesome, filling sandwich. I'm stuffed, and have plenty of it leftover to enjoy at home. The beer selection and mac n cheese could have been better, but the BBQ is outstanding.

Walked into this little place and was wondering if I was going to stay. If you are looking for a great burger this is the place! They have several signature burgers but you can always make your own as well. They have plenty of beer to choose from. The place has a rustic party in the barn vibe with lots of country music. Service is ok, it could be a little more attentive. The kitchen seemed slow for the number of guests at lunch time. If you like a BBQ style burger get the madwalaw (sp?). It was very tasty and filling.

The food was good. I am from Kansas City so of course I think we have the best BBQ. I had the Southern Belly Sandwich. It was very flavorful and came with a white BBQ sauce. I had never tried that but it was good. Completely different style than I'm use to but I would eat it again. The bar is small, but it was not busy. I was only here for lunch while working so we did not try any drinks. The staff is nice but they seem a little understaffed even for a smaller crowd. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the time of day we were there

Really enjoyed finding a nice place to enjoy a unique meal. This BBQ delivered some unique ambiance with a variety of nostalgia, albums, books, art. Wanted a great BBQ, and they delivered. I had the Hawaiian. So unique and yummy. The yum yum sauce was great. Just a hint of sweet. My husband had the one with bacon & loved it. It was so good, my husband ordered a second meal (he can burn it off). We traveled there for business. It’s a college town. We didn’t want college food, didn’t want boring. We got to talk to the owner for a bit. We feel bad for all the business people during these times. Their sandwiches are Smokey, a little messy & wonderful! Special & worth the trip!

BBQ sandwiches so good that it's impossible to believe the sauces make them even tastier. Our waitress was attentive to our needs and helpful with suggestions of what to eat. This is BBQ done right and made to order. (For my wheelchair using friends) The entrance is accessible as is the bathroom with space enough for manual wheelchairs (make sure you let 'em know at the beginning to remove any obstructions in the hallway leading to the bathrooms). If I had thru South Carolina I'll definitely go back!

The waitress was so sweet in checking in on us and the food was amazing. My fiancé and I both had the Southern Belly Dipper and enjoyed it so much. Our favorite was the white barbecue sauce that the sandwich came with. Will eat here again soon!

These were the best BBQ sandwiches! I didn’t like that there were no sides except fries but honestly the sandwiches are so big you don’t need anything else. There was only one employee when we went to pickup our to go order and he was waiting on tables and cooking by himself and the place was packed. He got our order ready and was so pleasant when he could have been rushed. He deserves a raise!

Parked, walked to the front door and it was close at 4pm. Went to the bar next door and they said you never know when they are going to be open. Hit or miss, apparently. It was a miss for us. Too bad. Ratings are good. Spoke to some other people and they said try Home Team, down the road. We did and it was great.

so, when you read a place only has one item on the menu, you start a little skeptical. but lemme tell you, all that doubting is for naught. this bbq will make you amends with your mom just to slap her- it's that good. I could not think of a single place i would rather spend my last $15.

I’ve come here several times, and each time has been great. There’s not usually a wait, the BBQ is always delicious, and the decor is very nice. I’d undoubtedly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys BBQ sandwiches. I have only a few minor complaints. 1) there’s not a whole lot of options on the menu, and 2) the tables can be a bit dirty. The menus aren’t much of an issue since even I found several sandwiches I liked despite a picky eater, but don’t expect much of a variety. The food itself is pretty messy too, so you’re going to need to clean up in the bathroom afterward, but that’s to be expected from BBQ anyway. I wish the tables were kept a little cleaner, but it’s honestly not bad. That’s the only thing keeping this from 5 stars, and i’d still recommend it to anyone in the area.

Favorite BBQ in Columbia, some of the best I've ever had. Don't let the somewhat limited selection of sandwiches fool you; Southern Belly knows their craft, and they do it extremely well. The sandwiches are somewhat pricey, but they are worth every penny. Delicious, delicious barbecue, and their sauces are out of this world. Could not recommend more highly.

On the interstate we googled, “Best lunch in Columbia, SC.” Here we are and we are not disappointed. This is the best bbq meat I’ve ever put in my mouth. The secret...”slow and low.” Got the King Kahuna. BBQ with grilled sweet onions and grilled pineapple and their homemade Hawaiian sauce. Southern Belly, we’ll be back!

Visited while in Columbia for a football game. Simple menu of various pork sandwiches with different toppings and bbq sauces. Food was amazing. Cooked to perfection , great taste and sauces spectacular . We tried a few different ones and each had unique flavor,one as good as the next. Staff very friendly and efficient. A must stop if you are in town!

BBQ was good. Asked for beer, out of everything on draft. Asked for a side of fries, no fries. Only a bag of lays. No other side options. Meal was supposed to come w Cole slaw, they were out of Cole slaw. Lol still paid full price though. Also every single overhead light was.... you guessed it... out. Great selection of interesting BBQ sandwiches. Go there if you don't mind a different twist on your BBQ, though the traditional favorites are on the menu as well. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is worth a trip to see their twist on BBQ. Service was reasonably fast and friendly.

Loved this place. I think of it as BBQ with a twist. Very unique flavors that are delicious. We got our sauces on the side so we could try more. We weren’t disappointed. Sandwiches come with loads of fries. We were very full when we left. The kids loved their food as well. Look forward to returning and highly recommend this place.

The barbecue was pretty good. They lack options as they only serve sandwiches and only have Lay's potato chips as a side. They had a few sauces but only provide one or two with the meal. I would have liked to been able to try several different ones. However, the waitress did offer to bring out a different sauce if I didn't like the one I ordered.

I've been to a few BBQ places around the Columbia area over the years and this is hands down the best I've had. Parking can be a pain downtown, but definitely worth it. A good variety to suit almost anyone's taste buds unlike others that only offer 3 choices.

A place the specializes in barbecue sandwiches. Had the Southern Belly dipper, and it was pretty tasty. The combination of cheese, barbecue, and bacon was very good. The portions didn't look very large, but after eating everything I found the meal to be pretty filling. Prices are about what you'd pay for a nice burger from a pub/restaurant.

Excellent bbq. Good service. Nice people. Bar atmosphere. Had the grilled cheese and bacon pulled pork sandwich on texas toast. Awesome! Coleslaw was the best I have eaten in some time, a perfect balance of cabbage and vinegar. Fries...just ok. No ketchup in the whole place. No kidding. Great choice of sauces. Our whole group enjoyed the Sherman sauce, a slightly spicy tomato based sauce that amped up the sandwich. Rebel sauce was second favorite, but we did not try them all. Overall good experience.

This place is fantastic! The waitress I had was really polite and knowledgeable about all the items, not to mention friendly and cute. I got a southern belly and it tasted fantastic! It comes with a bag of chips and a cole slaw. The flavor isn't over whelming and the portion is just right. The price is fair. Not expensive and not cheap. My meal was around 13 dollars total. I'd definitely come back again.

I came in to eat with Nancy. I saw that when you check in, you get a free Budweiser, that started things out on a positive note. We was catching up and didn't even look at the menu so when Ellie, our server, we couldn't even order. She remained friendly and didn't seem to mind that we was taking our time to order. We even moved to the bar to watch the remainder of the Bengals and Packers game. I ordered the the Django sandwich with the 7 sauce sampler. The meat was smoked perfectly and wad not over seasoned. I love the peppers that was on the meat and gave the perfect kick to the sandwich. The decor was different but fitted the restaurant, in front of the restaurant, there was a rosemary plant in the entrance and I love the smell of it. The staff was great and we had great conversation with them. I will definitely come back.

Absolutely delicious BBQ. I do agree that there should be more sides to choose from since the sandwiches will run you about $10 (why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars). Once you get your food the service seems to fizzle out, I have to go to the bar and request a drink refill most times we've been there.. However, the servers are friendly and we always get our food quickly.

Absolutely love eating at the Southern Belly. There used to be one on Rosewood, which is really close to the stadium/my apartment, so it was super convenient to just run by and pick up some BBQ to go and have a picnic or a chill night in. But, nevertheless, there is still the one located in Five Points, plus another location a bit further out of town. Their specialty sandwiches are awesome, even if they are a pretty heavy meal. My personal favorite is the Southern Belly Dipper, which has bacon and cheese, and comes with slaw and a delicious sauce to slather on. One of the things that most excited me is that they have recently started offering fries as a side, as opposed to just chips! The prices are good, and the food is even better. I have even got my grandma hooked- she always asks to go here whenever she comes to visit.

The restaurant was cozy. The decor was lovely, however there was a lot of it. My husband and I said "don't touch" to our 18mo daughter most of the time we were there. The service was subpar. Not bad, but the waitress' daisy dukes were obnoxious. You could tell she was working for tips as she paid extra attention to my husband. The food, however, was excellent. The coleslaw was amazing, and I don't like coleslaw. I did wish that there were more side options.

This BBQ place is unlike any others I've been to. They pretty much only have sandwiches, which initially was a little annoying, but the sandwiches they have are top notch. They're full of flavor, expertly crafted and every ounce is worth what you pay for it. Their sauces are phenomenal. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Some of the best pulled pork in Columbia, hands down. I first became a fan of this restaurant when they were only operating at their old location on Rosewood Drive and decided it was time to write a review. Since then I was only pleasantly surprised that they were able to open 2 new locations around the Columbia area. The menu is simple; a selection of mouth watering, slow-cooked pull pork sandwiches with practically any combination of unique toppings to include jalapenos, roasted red peppers, pineapple, bacon banana peppers and more. The sandwiches are a creative and fresh take on the classic pulled pork sandwich. Each delicious and with their own homemade sauce designed to fully compliment the toppings and/or "theme" of the sandwich. Choices of sides are coleslaw, chips or fries. Simple and delicious, The Southern Belly BBQ is sure to be a staple of Columbia for a long time.

Amazing food! I've had the Traditional with Midas sauce, spicy D'jango (not that spicy), and the Wookie. You gotta be hungry for that Wookie tho! The staff here is always nice and helpful. They have indoor and outdoor seating, but they weren't able to take cash payment the last time I went. No biggie cuz their food is awesome.

Delicious! I got the grilled cheese with Rebel Red BBQ sauce and it was wonderful. I didn't fimd one thing on the menu that looked bad. Curly fries that come with it are just like the fries from Arbys, but good. Service was awesome, they were understaffed today but still did a great job. 10/10

Small hole in the wall place with almost gourmet BBQ sandwiches and a full bar. The curly fries are like Arby's but way better, and the dipping sauce was awesome. I got the grilled cheese and would def order it again with a side of jalapenos! Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I didn't there were a few more options on the short menu.

The sandwich was good, the sauce was fine, but for the price I paid, I would've expected more. They need to revamp their menu with not only more sides, but better ones??? Service was ok at best, two young ladies with extremely short shorts on, and was given refills on my soda but no additional ice. Don't believe I would repeat.

I've had a lot of southern style bbq and always thought it was a tad on the dry side, but this place is fantastic!! Their pulled pork is so incredibly tender and not dry at all. Their home made sauces are also Soooooooooooooo good. By far the best bbq I've ever had. They have a wide selection of sandwiches that each have a distinct style and there is a specific sauce for each one.

I got a traditional sandwich with the Southern Bell-y (white) sauce topped with pickles. No more, no less. It was PERFECT. The denseness of the bread, the sweet and smoky sauce, the flavor of that meat. Oh, lawd. I could hop a flight and go back now. You really didn't even need sauce! (but who am I kidding? Gimme that sauce.) Top it all of with a beer, a side of Lay's chips, and tasty coleslaw. My day was made. My only desire, if I were ever granted a wish there, was to have homemade pickles. That would have brought this 10 to an 11. Homemade pickles are SO easy to make and they would have been killer.

Southern Belly had hundreds of raving reviews, so we decided that must be the one. With an hour more to kill in the car, why not read some reviews? Numerous mentions of excellent pulled pork, and generally raving testimonials. Except one.

Here's a long one for you! I grew up in Charleston, South Carolina and somehow for my entire childhood and teenage years only ever had pulled pork BBQ oversaturated in sauce on top of stale white bread. I hated it. It destroyed the entire category of food for me. I moved to Columbia for a job in 2014 and became friends with many co-workers. We would often go out and try all these different restaurants, but the thing they could never get me to eat was BBQ. One day one of them asked why I hated it so much and I explained to him my experience. He insisted that this was not like that, that all BBQ was not the horrible experiences I had in my brain. "Give it one shot, I'll pay for it and if you don't like it you didn't lose anything". Well yeah, if somebody's going to buy me lunch I will try it. We went and I picked out the Castro—a pulled pork sandwich with cheese and pickles on a sesame brioche. When I saw it come out I was instantly amazed. This was definitely not any BBQ I ever had before or even seen before. It was the most phenomenal sandwich I'd ever had. The sauce on the side was perfect and I walked that you could portion what you wanted. The coleslaw was the most amazing thing to me. I always think about it anytime I get coleslaw and how nothing else compares to it. I moved back to Charleston two years ago and this is by far the restaurant I miss most. Anytime I can convince co-workers to go when I visit, it's the happiest day.

Was in town on a business trip and wanted a quick lunch so I stopped by and was blown away by the taste of the BBQ in this place Just a tiny joint with a limited menu, but I found myself wishing that I lived in Columba so I could become a regular. Had the traditional and it was awesome!! The only you need after this sandwich is another one. Not that it's small, it comes with a pile of closed pit meat and that good ole SC mustard style sauce between two thick cut slices of grilled white bread. Mmmmmmmm.

I've read the reviews, and I've been here several times and would just like to say, the food is very good. Sure, they may only do bbq but, less is more! I have driven from Columbia, SC to Lexington, NC where they are supposed to have the best bbq and found out after a couple hours of driving that it "wasn't all that". Someone wrote they drove 15 miles and we're disappointed? Give me a break! I will always take a hole in the wall over a chain. My experience here has always been good. The staff is very friendly and if your coming for bbq, this is the place to come.

Southern Belly is a Five Points gem. They have some of the best barbeque sandwiches in South Carolina. You know it's a good sandwich when your hands get all sloppy and messy on the first bite. While dining with friends, one of the infamous Five Points vagrants paid this establishment a visit, panhandling. That was distasteful. Let me give you a typical southern belly experience for me. I drive up in my car with the sweet columbia air flowing through my windows. As I approach a light breeze carries the tantalizing aromas of a southern belly sandwich though my window and I immediatly cannot contain my excitement. I walk into the restaurant and as always order a southern belly sandwich and wait for its arrival. I look around and feel like a young lad at his birthday part. Overjoyed. Ecstatic. Then the sandwich comes out and let it plunge into the nectar of sauce they have provided. That first bite. Boy oh boy oh boy. There is nothing can bring a person's heart more joy than the first bite of a southern belly sandwich. I eat that sandwich with my head down and eyes closed fully appreciating the succulent flavors. Finally when I'm done I sit back let my arms come to there side and appreciate the gift of southern belly.

So...we walked in this dive with 4 kids, a toddler and 4 adults. Didn’t expect to have seating, but we weasled in. The little girl was running her legs off to accommodate us, and did a fine job. The simple menu made ordering a breeze. My wife and I split the Wookie and wow was I floored. This is a no frills eccletic joint with dishsoap to wash your hands with, but let me say this is the best eatery I have been to in years. Normally something needs improved...not here! When you concentrate on one thing, you perfect it...Well done, with a side of Sherman Sauce!!!

What do a golden cherub, a stuffed three-toed sloth, and a signed picture by Lioneil Ritchie have in common? They all are guarding the bar at the best BBQ joint in Columbia. Maybe that's a bit of a misnomer because all you can get is pulled pork, and the only form in which to get it is via sandwich. But don't let that fool you. This place dishes out some of the best smoked pork around. The sandwiches are all out of this world and the Midas Sauce will have you craving a bottle that you can take home with you. My suggestion? Southern Belly dipper with Texas toast instead of French Roll and Midas sauce instead of white sauce. Add the red peppers and jalapeños from the D'Jango for an extra kick. I also opt for double coleslaw instead of Lays for what it's worth. Enjoy!

I had the D'jango and it was off the chain (no pun intended). I thought I would order a second one but my belly would continue to go further south (pun) LOL. Waitresses were sweet and tended to our every need. A must visit and a neat tucked away BBQ joint. Bring an empty stomach for the best pork around. I never eat cole slaw and theirs was gone in a minute. Go Knights!!!
