A favorite breakfast and lunch place. Affordable, tasty food and good portions. The Big Nasty which is hash browns with a choice of meat and two eggs on top is highly recommended. A meal that will last you all day. If that's too much, they also offer a Little Nasty which is half size. Omelets are also recommended. Must try lunch sometime. Tried the Chris Z dog, for breakfast yet. Highly recommended if you're a hot dog person at all. A large weiner is butterflied and grilled to brown perfection then placed on a bun and smothered in their special sauce and all the other trimmings. A super example of the Birmingham hot dog. Recently raised rating from 3 to 4 stars. Consistently good.

Good food at a good price. Greasy hole in the wall places, like this, will always be a favourite of mine. Straightforward, unpretentious, menu featuring burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, and a few breakfast staples in sufficient portions at fair prices. Definitely worth a visit. For those with allergen concerns: as of my visit here (7/January/2020), they fry using vegetable oil. (Best to call and confirm before your own visit, just to be sure)

Great locally owned breakfast/lunch spot. I always make a point to get breakfast here when I'm in the area. Their food is always prepared fresh by smiling staff. From omelets and hashbrowns to hot dogs and burgers, their food always leaves me happy.

This was my 1st time eating here and it was great experience.. fast in and out process I had to cheese burger and u can tell they cook with love... my daughter had a hotdog with fries and she loved the fries and I did too.. only thing is they need more sitting room inside.. other than that everything was great

We ordered The Big Nasty (HUGE), Omelet Z (loaded meat omelet), & Smoked Sausage, Egg, & Cheese Biscuit. It was all delicious! To be honest I picked this place because they had a parking lot (needed on that day) (as opposed to street parking), which is hard to find in Birmingham! But I am so glad we chose this one. The staff was phenomenal! Diner atmosphere with great food. We will be back.

I absolutely love Chris Z's! I've had breakfast there several times and have never been disappointed. Their dish called "The Big Nasty" is the best breakfast dish served in Birmingham in my humble opinion. The only problem I have with it is it's size. It's a huge amount of food, but it's so good I can't stop eating until it's all gone and then I'm so stuffed I can't hardly move. I like to think I have self control, but "The Big Nasty" owns me!

This place was amazing. Like a mom n pop dinner. The food was perfect, breakfast tasted sooo good. We were headed back home out of state and they have us free brownies for everyone in the car for our trip. The workers there were so sweet and friendly and the food came so quick. Do yourself a favor and go there. You wont regret it.

So my experience was different this time. I ordered a philly cheese steak sandwich with fries and drink, and my boyfriend a hotdog. The total was 17.85 and the philly was not good whatsoever. The meat was dry and there was barely any meat and definitely barely any onions or bell peppers which is what makes a philly cheese steak sandwich. I am posting the pictures in the picture section and you will see that it's not worth even 4 bucks. Need to have a talk with the cook because my first experience was great, but that was breakfast so maybe that is why. My boyfriend's hotdog was a joke. It looked like a gas station hotdog but way worse. My 8 yr old can make a hotdog better then that. It was sloppy, thrown together without any care in the world. Bread was soggy and didn't taste good at all. Only reason I gave 3 stars is because of the first experience I had, but I can say they will only have one more chance to undo this bad experience. Also the lady at the cashier had an attitude because she couldn't understand that we didn't want a combo for the hotdog, only the hotdog. I would like a refund if at all possible because this meal wasnt worth the acid reflux that I'm getting from the overly greasy fries and hard meat from the phillysub.

One of my favorite breakfast spots in Birmingham. It's like a great home-cooked meal but I didn't have to do any work. The prices are reasonable and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They make you feel like a regular on your first visit.

Chris z is a great place for a burger or dog and several other great meals. Like the staff and location very convenient if your downtown. Updated 07/11/19. My wife has Cancer & we go for treatment every 3 weeks across street from restaurant. My wife looks forward to after treatment going to Chris Z and eating a hot dog for lunch. It has become our routine. Chris's sister who works there makes it a point to ask for a update when we come in & Chris always says hello. It's the small things that make a customer enjoy there visit at any establishment. I highly recommend the food but the level of service has always been top notch.

While at St Vincent’s a family lamented that the cafeteria was closed. I suggested the cheeseburger at Chris Z’s. I also ordered one for pickup for myself and was delighted at both the cheeseburger and the hand-cut fries! They never disappoint!

So me and my brother pull into the parking lot Now sure the place isn't much to look at in the city but it definitely gives you the GREAT SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY. Ms. Carla happily took our order. And definitely made us feel like home. And probably the best damn sweet tea in Alabama I ever had.

I have tried everything on the menu and everything is absolutely amazing! I love the fact they have breakfast available all day on Saturdays. If you want a great breakfast bring your family to Chris Z's. They also have the best phillys in Birmingham. If I could give 10 *'s I would.

Chris Z's is one of the best restaurants in Birmingham. The food is amazing. I recommend the Greek omlet and hash browns for breakfast and the Z Burger for lunch. The owner is delightful and the atmosphere is very cozy. The only issue can be parking because this is a popular spot.

Started off with something simple: cheeseburger with bacon added and a side of fries. The burger was great, the fries were a bit over saturated and slightly overcooked. Nice, friendly people behind the counter and quick service. Will return, try something else, and give the fries another chance.

I've always loved this place, and have been going there since 2009! They have amazing burgers if you're looking for something a little different from your typical fast food place. It's a bit cramped and parking could be better, but if you can find a spot to get in, I highly recommend the Z Burger
