Ordered steak and cheese, chicken and waffles, kids pancakes and gumax fries. It was all cooked to order and tasted great, chicken was tender and fries were crispy. Onion rings were a little disappointing, not enough onion to really crunch and enjoy. Plenty of food for 2 people and a toddler !

Go for the pies. The owner also has a very interesting background regarding how he opened the restaurant so if you get a chance to talk to him i recommend it. He is very humble and today he was the only one working there.
The meat pies are excellent here.

a wonderfully delicious experience!
the Guma Cafe offers an incredibly diverse menu with something for everyone for breakfast, lunch, dinner.
definitely try the amazing
Guma Omelette~ cheesy eggs,
with a terrific blend of fresh vegetables, & the right touch of flavorful spice.
be sure to add a side of the fluffy tropical pancakes for a terrific blend of sweet & spicy. it is over-the-top delicious goodness!
the staff is welcoming, kind, professional, and efficient. they know the menu well, made spot-on terrific suggestions, happily accommodated requests, & cheerfully refilled the piping hot & fresh coffee.
we will definitely stop in to try
the hot roast beef & gravy, with a side of loaded fries, and, some of the signature spicy pies with a fresh side salad, as the lunch choices looked absolutely amazing!
a clean & inviting cafe with a friendly staff, & a delicious eclectic menu!
thumbs up & five stars~ a must try!

Amazing!! Absolutely wow! The chef Has been an American chef for over 15 years so he blends his authentic east African cuisine with an American one which is great for the kids! I enjoyed my spicy pies, which were amazing, while they ate their sliders and pancakes. Delish! Will definitely be back!

Second time coming here for breakfast and both times our meals were delicious. We plan on coming back to try the lunch/dinner options but if you're looking for a low key diner breakfast spot, this is it (not many places in Woodbridge). Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Their staff is also very attentive and friendly.

I often go here and order a variety of meat pies. My grandfather, mother, and boyfriend, who all have different levels of spice tolerance, love these meat pies. Once my grandfather and I went here and got meat pies with a side salad and some tea. Everything was delicious. The owner is very kind and patient with you while you think about your order. You can tell she appreciates your business.
There is a table with community events and coupon books for other mom n pop establishments in PWC, which is neat.

First visit and what a hospitable crew. I was met with a smile and then a sample of the beef pie. The beef was outstanding. Took home the sample of pies plus an extra chicken and beef for the whole fam. All very good and we will be back to try the breakfast menu....probably this weekend. This is a great gem here I'm Woodbridge. The place was clean, food was great, the food was ready in a very timely manner. Give it a try

The food is awesome, would have given them 5 stars, but my waitress Betsy, needs some assistance with customer service. It took a while to get our food. They should look into hiring another cook. I had to remind Betsy 3 times that my meal came with a bowl of fruit. She did not come by to our table to ask if we needed anything, instead I had to wave her down and ask for refills, status, etc. I know she's young, but she needs to be taught proper etiquette when working in customer service.

4 stars instead of 3 because of the service! Come for the pancakes. Waffles are mediocre, soggy and blah. The corned beef hash is the same generic stuff you get at Denny's, was hoping for homemade.
Eggs done perfectly- over medium and scrambled.
The restaurant is bright and clean with plenty of parking and easy access from Minnieville Road, just a few minutes from I95 exit.
Buying some take out meat pies for takeout, they look yummy!

The Guma Pies are soooo good! Totally addictive little stuffed triangles with tasty, spicy fillings! This place also has the most amazing breakfast menu with a dozen or so flavors of pancakes and waffles. The pancakes are big and fluffy and delicious!

Food was great. And have frozen versions of their signature dish to purchase for home! Nice, quiet place. Easy to get to.

Maybe the best breakfast in the Woodbridge area
Noble Ackerson (Stigsfoot)
Great service, amazing pies. Breakfast served all day but lunch isn't. Tried the chicken and waffles for breakfast and the Jollof for lunch and was really impressed.
Consider taking a box of crab pies with.
Richard Martin
Crab pies are amazing! If you can handle a little spice, this place is amazing!

To paraphrase from one of my most beloved movies: In many ways, the role of a restaurant customer is easy. The prevalence of dining choices and proprietors who are vying for our (generally hard-earned) paychecks means we risk very little in terms of labor, yet our ability to insert a chip at the prompting of a buroing chip reader or swipe a piece of plastic in order to satietiate the slightest hint of hunger means we, in the West, enjoy a position of discriminating privelege over those small dining establishments whose owners offer up their work and their dreams to our judgment. The dawn of review-centered apps means we enjoy the immediate power to strike an instant, collective blow to a restaurant from the safe shelters of whereever our smartphones recieve reception.
We in the NOVA/DC area thrive on voicing our negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read, made all the more gratifying when we can be among the first to review and critique and receive kudos for our own scathing input. An electronic thumb up or. Down, like the Caesars of ancient Rome, can be the life or death of someone's restaurant vision and dream.
But the bitter truth that we customers and Yelp contributors must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average bad meal, over-priced drink, poor dining experience, or bad decor is probably more meaningful than our virtual criticism designating it so.
But there are times when a customer truly risks something beyond an overpriced meal or $60 for an undercooked steak, and that is in the discovery and defense of newer restaurant with "passion". The world is often unkind to passionate talent, passionate missions that extend beyond the food being served. The passionate restaurant owner needs friends.
This morning, I experienced something passionate: an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected passionate staff and owner. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about restaurant owners only being in it for the money is a gross understatement. My culinary preconceptions and the extraordinarily delightful tastes of Guma's pies and breakfast rocked me and my Sunday brunch-seeking tastebuds to the core. In the past, I have made no secret of my belief that there was nothing new to discover in the way of culinary explorations. Guma's motto is "Love is Spicy". Seemingly quaint, but when you have the entirety of every ethnic food and major chain restaurant within reach of your nearest grocery frozen food aisle, it is hard to believe there is exciting food and stories to be discovered.
But I realize, only now do I truly understand the human expression of love in the form of food and spiciness. Spicy does not always mean love; but love can indeed be spicy. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius and humble beginnings of the owner now cooking at Guma's, who is, in this customer's opinion, nothing less than the finest cafe owner in Northern Virginia. I will be returning to Guma's, soon, hungry for more.
Service? Excellent.
Food? There is not ONE pie you will not enjoy. I suggest dipping your crab and lobster pies in the steaming, dripping butter.
How is the breakfast? Imagine going to Fiola's or Le Diplomats in DC and ordering a pancake. Now imagine if your pancake, with REAL orange rind and the taste of luxurious crepes, came out in the portion of something you'd find in a southern diner. My wife's Augustine Omelet was on par with a four star establishment and nearly hung over the plate. Each meal could EASILY have been priced between $15-$25 dollars without a DC foodie feeling cheated. Instead, I believe they were sub $10. Seven people dined for $60. I have paid $150+ for similar quality.
The owner, Guma, spoke with every person who came through the door. Take note, I predict you will see Gumax pies in national. The owner shared his story and vision for expanding Gumax and jobs. He will, indeed, achieve his dreams because he is fueled by two things; a passion for Faith and a passion for Love.
Yes.
Love IS Spicy.

Good spot, very small. Extremely friendly staff. Decent breakfast, had French toast, as apple and over med eggs. Eggs were over hard, too much for my taste but still ok.
Quanitra Powell

I tried their lamb guma pie at the Taste of Woodbridge event today and it was the best thing I ever had. I went back to order more a second time and tried some of their beef guma pie. Just as good. Plan to order of box of these from their website and check out their resterant next.

I had trouble deciding on which pie to order so I went with the sampler! What a great option! I still can't decide which I love more, but it might be the crab. Or maybe the veggie. I don't really know. Whatbi do know is that this place is incredibly clean, the food was phenomenal, and the owner and staff were so friendly and hospitable. I can't wait to go back.
Zanthu

This place is great. Try it for breakfast! It is my favorite place for morning dining in Woodbridge, with the possible exception of a place or two in Occoquan. Prices are great and the quality is good. Give it a shot if you are in the neighborhood!

A friend highly recommended the sausage gravy breakfast as well as the slider pies. I decided to try it today and am glad I did. Ordered the American breakfast. The eggs with cheddar were cooked just the way I like them. The cheese want in one spot, but cooked into the scrambled eggs. Home fries were lightly seasoned and browned. Bacon crispy and delicious. Even the rye toast was buttery good. I drink iced tea everywhere I go. This is real brewed iced tea with just enough sweetener. Highly recommend.
