I spent $1,100 to have a vehicle shipped from VA to NE, which I'm fine with. After waiting 2 weeks for the vehicle to arrive CarMax associates scheduled an appointment with me to test drive the vehicle. I was 10 minutes early to the appointment only to wait over an hour and a half to be told there was no one to help me. I'm scheduled again for tomorrow, let's see if they redeem themselves.
***UPDATE***
I went to my new appointment, sceptical that things would go well. I was definitely wrong, they went phenomenally well!! I was promptly met and we immediately started the process. My car was sent off for the appraisal and I was set up for my test drive. I was allowed to drive the vehicle by myself. I dislike when the sales associate says they have to ride along. One thing on the appraisal, I do feel it was low, however, I got a good price on the vehicle I purchased so I think it evened out. I'm accustomed to the process taking hours and hours to complete. From start to finish it took 90 minutes. Now, if you like to haggle, this isn't the place for you. If you want a no pressure, fast, transparent buying experience, I highly recommend CarMax.

I was really impressed with the way they sat down and listened to what I was thinking about a vehicle and the price range in the selection process.
Then showed me the in stock selections based on the information I had given them. I had previously looked on line earlier and had made my choice-I thought, however they were able to provide are better fitting vehicle than I had previously chosen.
I am impressed by their process and courteous service that we received making it a very refreshing experience, not usually normal these days.

Austin and Liz at CarMax were so helpful in my first solo car buying experience. All my questions were answered and the process was very easy. It was wonderful not to haggle like in previous experiences. I love my new car! I traded in a small hatchback for an SUV and I'm very pleased with the space. Nice drive too! Highly recommend CarMax!

Of course this comes along with being myself a patient person but I knew this place was going to be great. I purchased my first car 4 years ago so this time I came back for a newer car. Todd and Adrian made my visit very comfortable. Because I had to have my ex present to sign off the car over to me they made 100% all effort to make this an easy process for me. After explaining my circumstances everyone in the building was amazing. This shows that the staff can accommodate to anyone. I really hope the staff keeps making sales and everyone gets treated as deserved. Todd was friendly and everyone who I made eye contact had a very friendly smile and care at heart to everyone visiting the store. Thank you Todd and everyone. This will forever be the best place to get a car. Because getting a car is hard and time consuming time, CarMax knows exactly who to hire and how to handle their people!

The gentleman that helped during the process between getting the loan, processing department and then mechanics are so helpful. It's not always fun buying a car but, when they are enjoyable people, it's a lot easier. The mechanic was, so, nice when went in and talked to him about looking my car over. They have a 90-day warranty, and it came from Urbandale, IA want to make sure all oils are changed. My dad taught me... Very happy ! Love my Mini Countryman!

2 words…so good! Sold my car to CarMax and it was a very hassle and drama-free exchange. I showed up for the appointment and it took them less than 30 mins from start to finish to evaluate and provide me their offer. I came back several hours later after determining that the dealer that I was buying my new car from wouldn’t give me as much and was in and out with check in hand in less than 15 minutes. Gave me a good price, did it quickly, and were friendly which was the icing on the cake. Great experience!

I stopped in at CarMax on my way to trade in a car to a dealership, thinking it might be a waste of time, and not knowing what to expect. I showed up without an appointment on a busy day. I got an appraisal in < 30 minutes, and the appraisal ended up being much better than 2 dealerships were willing to do on a trade in. What I thought would likely be a waste of time, ended up being an incredibly easy process, and I ended up selling to CarMax and getting a WAY better offer than trade in. I will honestly never trade in again without making a CarMax stop first, even if future ones don't pan out as well, it will completely be worth the time.

Amazing service! I only intended on selling my 2010 V6 Challenger but I surprisingly made a trade and upgraded to a 2015 V8 Challenger. Fairly quick process compared to Baxter. Amazing car as well!

Great experience. Simon was polite and professional, was in and out with a new vehicle and trade in about 2 hours. Business side was just as great, with the appraisal exactly what it was quoted online. I was skeptical at first, because of a 3 hour round trip, but I wasn't let down.
And just a note, have all your paperwork with you, and make sure the name matches the credit application with your drivers license (if there's an initial or full middle name on license, make sure it's exactly the same on application). All these made it go throufh quicker but it was an awesome experience with Carmax.

We downsized and one of the hardest things was going from a 3-car garage to an average sized 2-car. By the time we were organized it was clear that one of our SUVs just wasn't going to be a comfortable fit anymore. New car dealer supply chains are so screwed up at the moment it was a major blessing to be able to get an excellent offer from Carmax to buy the SUV and leave us in a position to shop both there and elsewhere. The process was fast, fair, and no-BS. That's the way I prefer to live my life. The staff was friendly and incredibly efficient. Thanks for a great experience at a great business. We will be back.

Hands down the best buying and selling experience I've ever had! I sold my car with CarMax and then a couple months later, came to buy a new one. I was lucky enough to get the same salesperson, and she was incredible to work with. She answered all my questions, made herself available when I needed to reach out and made both the buying and selling process smooth and fun. I’m giving a 3 star rating only because of the speed of repair service. I have a check engine light on I can’t be seen until the end of the month. This is something that needs to be checked and not waited on.

Worked with Todd for the first half of my experience and Tara for the second half. I was looking for a newer car that would be a little more reliable for my move across the country. Carmax offered me $3,000 more for my 2015 Versa than any other dealership I had tried. They shipped a car from Iowa for me to try out, no obligation or pressure to buy, even shipped it for free! I fell in love with it and Todd got me set up and in great position for my next appointment. Tara helped me wrap it all up and was extremely helpful and was not pressuring in the slightest. Even when there were snags with my title, Carmax completely offered to help smooth out the wrinkles. EVERYONE, even the gentleman (Stephen) that did my signing were all extremely friendly, transparent, and helpful.
Took my key fobs back a few hours later (since one had a dying battery) and they replaced it on the spot, no problems, in and out in 5 minutes!

Super friendly staff. No pressure on sales. I did take in my vehicle for an appraisal. They offered me the lowest price out of about four or five places to include dealerships.
They were about 4K under the highest offer at a dealership for my vehicle. Obviously I was forced to go elsewhere given the amount of money.

I had everything done as far as financing and paperwork, but we had to sit through him clicking through and reverifying everything. The whole reason I did everything online was to reduce the amount of time we sat in the dealership. It was more annoying than anything, otherwise everything went well.

I drove in with my trade in, about 7pm, drove out with my newly purchased auto about 9:30 pm. The cargo space was smaller than I expected, but I've found work-a rounds for that. It handles well and has good pickup and good brakes.

Quick and easy to sell my car. I got an appraisal that was 4500 more than the dealership offered me. So I decided to schedule and appt. Went in today and after looking at the condition of my vehicle they offered me even more! What a surprise. I hardly drove my vehicle thus the mileage on it was pretty crazy so don't expect the same exact experience as me but it was well worth driving 30mins to sell my car there. I was in and out within 1.5hrs check in hand. It could not have been easier.

This was the first time I've used Car Max. I went to their website to get a value appraisal of my car and received an offer right away which was great!! When I went to their location it took less than 30 minutes to fill out the appropriate paperwork and receive a check right away!!! There is no way that H&H would have done this stress-free or without stipulations. Other dealerships can take a lesson from Car Max!!!

The large variety of cars and ease to simply look at them on the internet was incredible! When I finally found my perfect car, it was shipped to me at a fair price, and I was given instructions on how to prepare for ownership of it. When the car arrived, it was extremely simple to set up an appointment to pick it up. At the appointment all staff was extremely friendly and helpful. After I got my car, I parked it outside to look it over and the car battery died… I entered the facility and informed the staff what had happened, and they immediately jump started my car, apologized sincerely, and refunded me for a brand new car battery from the facility of my choosing! I have no complaints about CARMAX, I love my car, and I will absolutely recommend/use them again in the future!

bid had been resinded by a lower offer. We talked about it - and accepted the second
offer which was acceptable and after the paperwork was done we were ready to go home.

My experience went very well EXCEPT that when I arrived home with the new purchase, I discovered that a "Dealer License Plate" was found between the console and the passenger seat. The next day (Monday) I called and informed CARMAX Omaha that it was found, and I asked how I should return it to them. I was told to use USPS mail, which I did, and received a tracking number to ensure it was to be delivered. I tracked it to find it had been delivered the next AM. I then called to request the $9.65 mailing fee be re-imbursed and was required to send the postal receipt. After about 2 weeks not having any response, I called again to see if my claim had been honored and was told it needed to resolved at the corporate level. I have now received the $9.65. I felt the "value" of the plate was important enough that my integrity should not have needed to be questioned of the refund which did not include other postage expenses. I will recommend CarMax for vehicle purchase by others. I considered my purchase/trade costs were very good.

It was too busy the first time I stopped in on a Friday evening to complete the sale of my pickup after doing the online offer so I made an appointment for Saturday morning. Although still very busy, all I had to do was check in, talk to a staffer and then wait for a little over an hour until the appraisal was completed on my pickup and then signed it over. Got a check for the same amount as online. Pretty painless. I get the feeling that business there is good, because of all the people coming and going.

Had an excellent experience selling our car at CarMax recently. Did the online appraisal and thought it was very good for a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, thinking that it would probably be lowered at least a little bit. After waiting about a half hour for them to check out the car, they came back and said the offer stayed the same. It was a great deal we probably would not have gotten if we had gone to another dealer or sold the car privately. This was even with a slightly broken front bumper from hitting an animal. In fact, we almost traded it a year ago at another local dealer and they only offered half of what we got from CarMax. Went right along with what Kelly Blue Book estimated was the car’s value. Somer was helpful in getting the paperwork together and explaining each thing we were signing, handing us a check at the end.

I had an online offer for my 2019 Mazda CX3 that was ridiculously high. I asked how long it would take from start to finish with a check in my hand, and was told one hour. Sure enough, I walked out with a check for that exact amount in damn near one hour! The staff were friendly, honest & efficient!!!

I went to several dealerships before CarMax, but heard great things from others and decided to check it out. Some people say CarMax is more expensive than used at a dealership or elsewhere, but I was able to find something in better shape and for a better price than anywhere else, which was a great surprise. The warranty is also great and comparable to certified used at a dealership. Also, compared to dealerships, I was able to get a lower financing rate, and they offered me the most for my trade in. Great customer service, and really happy with my new vehicle.

It was the best experience we have had with a car dealership. We were selling our car and got an online quote that we printed off to be taken to the dealership. I was very happy that they inspected the car (we answered the online questions honestly) and they honored the price and didn't try and ding us left, right and center.
We then went into their office, signed the title over and received our check. The whole process took a little under an hour and the staff could not have been more friendly. A really positive experience, which is half the reason I'm bothering to write this review. 10/10 would recommend

I thought the experience was good overall. I was glad I made an appointment. I was satisfied with the price they gave me for my car. The experience took longer than expected. After the tech test drove the car, I was expecting to be able to retrieve all my stuff, but realized it didn't get completely cleaned out. I ended up waiting nearly 40 minutes for them to get out to the car to retrieve everything, because according to the guy at the desk, "its a very big lot..."

We sold our 2014 Subaru Outback to Carmax. This was our third vehicle that we've sold to them over the last 15+ years. We had an online offer based upon the VIN and the condition questionnaire, and setup an appointment for a Monday evening at 8 PM. They inspected and drove the vehicle, and confirmed the offer. We signed the paperwork, transferred the title, and left after about 45 minutes total with a check in hand. Easy way to sell your car!

Excellent service, great car selection, and the 30day return policy really came in handy. I initially got a jeep Cherokee, but after driving it for a few weeks. I realized it was too small for me, and my needs. With the 30 day return, I was able to bring it back, and get a the vehicle I needed. The only reason this is 4 stars and not 5.... Is the finishing touches. They were on the home stretch, but just before the end they fumbled with the wash up. I’m not sure what the use to “spruce” the cars up. But it would of been better if they left it alone. With water marks, dirt, and streaks left throughout the inside and outside. Other than that it’s was a great experience.

The initial wait to talk with someone took a bit longer than I like, however, once they were able to appraise my trade and I found a car I liked it was one of the best car buying experiences I have ever had. I also had an excellent experience with the service department. Just a couple of days after buying my car I noticed a wheel bearing going bad. I live 200 miles away and instead of having to drive it back they had me take it to my local mechanic get a quote and have it fixed. It was that easy. My mechanic said it was a good experience and no questions asked, because it was covered under the dealer warranty. I would not hesitate to go back again or hesitate to recommend buying your next car from CarMax

I had an absolutely amazing experience here. I went in with my mind dead set on a vehicle I saw on the website. Walked right in and was immediately greeted explained what I was in for and right away was driving the car I wanted. There wasn’t any trying to talk me into something else or feeling pressured into another car. Our sales person was very helpful when working directly with him in person. He was fairly responsive when we initiated the request to have the vehicle sent to the local location. However, when I followed up with him with a question regarding the vehicle, once we purchased via paying cash, he never responded. This lack of follow-up is very disappointing. I love the vehicle, so it isn't a huge issue, but I do feel follow-up afterwards needs to be better, especially given they offer a 7 day return policy, and I followed-up before the 7 day window was expired, and he did not reply at all. It has been over two weeks, and he still has not responded to me.

Got the truck we wanted. The online part was easy. Anticipated having to finish paperwork which was no problem. But had to wait a hour and half after our scheduled time then another hour and half sitting doing basically nothing. Thought getting insurance before going would speed process up but, it didn’t. This was my first experience at CarMax. Nothing flashy or special about the service that I got. I was in an out in 2.5 hours with my new car and financing. It is an inevitable to get the feeling that you are getting screwed over any time you car shop. To some extent that is probably true, they will always win.
However, this was the simplest car buying experience I have had, and I am pleased with the result. They were professional and quick, not pushy at all. The overall experience was good. Love that I could shop the nation. I paid to have my truck brought from Michigan. My first disappointment was when I was informed not to take more then a 20 minute test dive!!!! Trucks are expensive and this did not sit well with me. I was not told that I needed to bring proof of insurance to the test drive..... l had it with me but what if I had been dropped off? The interest rate I was offered was a full 3% higher then I was able to obtain. The price was very competitive and I got the truck I wanted!!!!! I would recommend CarMax to friends and family..... with a warning to seek financing elsewhere.

The salesman was very good, but the two people that worked with me on phone to start the process to get the truck where not trained very good. As I found out after the truck arrived and was getting ready to purchase the truck on a loan you (Carmax) tried to bait and switch me to a Carmax loan instead of one with a much better interest. Because I was not told to lock in the loan instead of being told to get preapproved I missed out a good interest rate for an okay one after a bunch of work by the branch manager. It almost cost you a sale and a possible returning customer. If it was not for the branch manager being very helpful and a really good manager taking responsibility for the miss handling of my loan I would have walked out and this would have been a horrible review instead of an okay one. Because of the salesman and branch manger being very good I will be back in the future

I recently purchased a 2018 Tesla from Carmax. The experience was just like you see it on TV. You walk in, they see your car, they make an offer and you decide if you want it or not.
Why not a higher rating? Basically, what you see on the commercial is it.
Well, the gent in the office was a previous salesperson gone back office and the most lively of the bunch. Good personality, but the rest of the office was devoid of energy. Mayhaps this is the plan, but i found my energy being the biggest in the showroom.

So, if you want a real to life commercial with no straying from the path, or energy that was real, I suggest you use them.
Just don't go in thinking it will be more than a simple transaction. Which reads weird, but, it's a feeling.

I received a preapproval email, so I went to the website and applied for what I would consider my “dream car”, or a car I could see myself driving for the next 10+ years. Within 5 minutes I received an “approval” so I stopped in (no appointment). I was helped by Jake. We went out, checked out the car (I had my kiddos with me this day and they were all over the place and very tired, everyone was super kind still). My trade in appraisal was done very quickly. I received $1700 for my 09 Hyundai that was in fair condition. (That is a decent trade in value for it in my opinion, I never checked KBB*) We sent our request to the bank and shortly after received some offers. I picked the best one, we signed some paperwork and we were out the door. All in all it took 2 hours, everything was explained thoroughly the car was very clean and smelled great. They helped me transfer everything from the old car to the new car. The old car was, well, ehhhh. I was embarrassed of it and the condition, but you could tell they are used to it and really assured me that it was fine. We had the first bad snow storm in awhile, 12+ inches of snow, and I was kind of hesitant when I got the car, it not being 4WD or AWD, (it is a big SUV) and I came back in 6 days later to see if I could trade out. Because I owed on the car I traded in we would actually have to return the new car and reapply, I did not want to risk that because I co-signed my fiancé’s new truck as well that week, and that could easily have me denied second time around so we left, but I was still and am still more than happy! Capital One has already reached out about how to make payments and I had 45 days to make my 1st payment.
Oh let me not forget to add, I financed my taxes as well, and they sent the checks in the mail, which I got within a week and a half, and the FEDEX delivery person put it in between my 2 front doors so it didn’t get wet in the snow..: he walked through 14 inches of snow to leave that for me, so 5 stars to that person at FedEx as well 😂 the letter they sent from CarMax stated they will reimburse me for the $10 it takes to switch the car from MN to NE. It’s been great!

I would give 5 stars but the fact is we had to pay for a vehicle to be shipped and wait several weeks to get it just to test drive, which is fine , but everytime we called about it we were never talking to one single sales person it was always many different people. When the vehicle finally came in we went to test drive it and a sales guy comes out and doesn't even know what's going on . Explaining what you are there for so many times is just frustrating but the process was quick and easy they just need better communication and only deal with one sales person the whole way to the end.

What a mess. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING, gets pushed through their national call center. This wouldn't be an issue if that call center actually knew anything about what was happening at the particular dealership you are working with, but they don't. If you do call your local dealership, they will transfer you back to the call center. If you make more than one call with a single question, you are likely to get different answers. There were some very nice people on the phone, but it doesn't really make any difference if they can't tell you anything.
Going into the dealership doesn't really resolve anything, because they simply sign on to the same system that the call center is using. Nobody bothers to actually walk out physically to see if the car is even there, when my question (because I was getting conflicting answers) was whether or not the car had actually shipped as it was supposed to have. Turns out it did, but could anyone be bothered to figure that out? No.
In the interest of fairness, I did speak to one business manager who cared enough (and knew the system well enough) to get me some very basic answers, such as whether or not the car was actually on the premises. There we go, one person, and I never managed to reach him a second time.
On to the "problem" with the Title, which was a simple need for a new title because all the lines were full. I live in a same-day state, so for my $35k + $1400 delivery and the fact that I had already exceeded their estimated 3 weeks delivery window I would expect that perhaps they could have someone roll the 3 miles to go get it, and be back in an hour. Expectation met! Sort of. Because it quite literally took them a week and a day to get this done. 8 days, after charging me $1400 for a delivery, to accomplish a task that should have taken an hour. If that isn't dedication to the customer experience, I don't know what is. Comparing this to the incredibly good experience we had purchasing our Subaru at Baxter's a month ago, and it looks even worse (if that is even possible).
Sure, Carmax has cars. But if you have any delusions about them giving one single **** about you as a customer, you need to go elsewhere.
EDIT: Managed to get away from the national company and call center to begin working with the local store directly. They corrected every issue, refunded my transfer fee due to the delay and confusion, and made some pretty expensive repairs to the car (rims had been damaged by transport truck, so they replaced all 4 rims and the tires). They also made clear the limitations they were working under due to the out of state transfer and the nature of the national enterprise.
They did all this quickly, and pleasantly. So... If I could find a way to review Carmax national poorly and still give this particular location an "attaboy", I would do so. In the meanwhile, I'm going to edit this review to reflect my opinion of the people here.

Went in a few days later for a physical appraisal, this process took less than 15 minutes and the bid was the same as online, Returned the next day and sold my Trax. The selling process took 30 minutes and the guy I worked with in business office was excellent.

Buying my truck from CarMax was a very good experience. I tried using True Car and Costco buying program but still got the runaround from dealerships, with the dreaded, “well what do you want to pay for the truck?”. CarMax had the truck I wanted at a very fair price. It was in Georgia and I paid to have it transferred, but still worth it. Sales associate was nice, and helpful, price as promised with no hassle, and CarMax even has a relationship with Bank of America that made my pre-approved financing a breeze. Highly recommend and I’m sure I’ll be back. Only downside was their trade-in offer was way to low for me, but I sold it on my own very quickly.

Just bought a 2013 Honda CR-V from the west Omaha site. Very nice experience, no haggling over price. Price was not the lowest, but was right in the middle price range according to Kelly Blue Book and other dealerships in my area. I took the car to my mechanic and they checked it over top to bottom found nothing wrong with it at all. The 5-day return and 30-day waranty is nice. I also bought an extended warranty which I hardly ever do. But the cost for theirs was about half the cost of other ones for which I received quotes, plus the deductible was only $200, (or $150 if you take your car to CarMax to have any covered item fixed!) Very good deal on the extended warranty. Overall experience was very good. No pressure at all to buy. I would be inclined to buy another car from them when I get ready to buy another one.

I was disappointed because I had to fill out an application for credit, once on line, the again when the representative from CarMax called me, and finally at the dealership.
It was kind of repetitive to have to fill out the same forms over and over and over.
Jason at the dealership took really good care of me. He apologize for having to do it over and over and over again. He walked me through all the steps right through finance and out to the car.
If I hear of anybody looking for a car I will steer them toward CarMax!!

We were very impressed with our first CarMax experience that we returned to purchase a second vehicle. The team is friendly and buying a vehicle is just like purchasing a new pair of sneakers. Find something you like, test it out, take it home. Absolutely no hassle whatsoever.
I really want to rate my experience 5 stars however our new (used) vehicle was not very clean. I found debris on the overhead and on the carpet. In between the seats I found lots of dust. The engine bay was dusty as well. Even though it is a used vehicle it is new to my family. I think a very clean vehicle would make this an experience worth bragging about.
Will we return for our next vehicle? Absolutely. Will I request a full detail, inside and out? Absolutely.

Everything went smoothly. The car was delivered on time. Only issue was that I told 3 different people that the passenger visor had greasy finger prints. I was told that it would be taken care of. When the car was delivered to us the finger prints were still there. I cleaned it up myself.

This was the easiest car buying experience I have ever had in my entire life! I reserved a car online from Kansas City, and had it transferred here, free of charge, just to test drive. I had gone online and picked a few others out in case I didn't like the car.
I walked in and spoke with Jeff (awesome, low key dude). We test drive the car, and when we get down the road a little piece, and we both agree this wasn't what I was looking for.
We drive back to the lot where I had picked a plan B car to test drive. He takes one look at the car and says, "Oh yeah, that is more you!" I end up buying the car, and he even helps me secure an even lower rate than my pre-approved rate!
Here's the cool part - I schedule to pickup the car on a Saturday, but I get antsy and want the car two days early. I call Jeff and he's like, "I won't be here when you get here tonight, but we will make sure you are ready to go!" I walk in the door....and there is Jeff! He makes sure all my paperwork is completed, hands me the keys, shakes my hand, and I am off!
I've owned about 5 or 6 different cars, and by far, this was the easiest experience I have ever had purchasing a car. It pales in comparison to the experience we had this week in getting a car from another local area dealer...which has been a pain in the rear.

I was referred to CarMax by my sister who purchased one of her cars from here. I decided to take the leap. I researched for a few months and fell in love with a car out of state. I requested for it to be transferred on Christmas Eve, so it took a bit longer to get here because of the holidays. I did all of my applying and paperwork online and over the phone. So when it was time to come in and test drive my car, I was in and out within 45 minutes! All I had to do was sign the paperwork and the car was mine! I can’t thank Derek enough for his help! Although it wasn't me who made a purchase I accompanied my step daughter, she had a great experience, it wasn't pushy or sell sell sell, Michael, the guy who looked after her, was fantastic (even though he's a Manchester United fan). Michael put everything on the table and just let our daughter go at her own pace, he worked with her to make sure she wasn't going over her budget and also guesstimated the taxes so she wouldn't be caught out when applying for her plates etc, I'd recommend them.

I'm a big fan of the no-pressure, all cards on the table experience that CarMax offers. Our sales rep was great and helped us work through a few transfers to hone in on the right vehicle. I liked the free service to touch up a few minor blemishes on the car, along with the reimbursement for purchasing owner's manuals.
Docking 1 star for a couple of things:
1) CarMax neglected to notarize the title they mailed to me, which I didn't notice until the DMV pointed it out after I had waited 30 minutes in line. So, I had to drive to CarMax, get the thing notarized, drive back to the DMV, and wait in line again - not fun.
2) After waiting for completion of the free touch-up service, I inspected the vehicle and immediately noticed a fairly obvious scratch that had been missed. The staff were very apologetic and took care of the issue, but this necessitated a second round of waiting in the lobby.
So, a great car buying experience, but a couple of stumbles on the tail end prevent me from awarding a perfect 5.

Second time we have bought from CarMax. Great experience from looking at cars (online), to having a car transferred (free from Independence, MO), looking at other cars to buying. We were in the store for maybe a total of 2 hours including the test drive and all the paperwork. The car we had transferred was not as nice as we had hoped but found another one on the lot we did like. No negativity from them about having to bring in a car on their dime and happy to let us look at other cars without pressuring to actually buy one. Will definitely stick to these guys as long as they don't change their business model.

The whole process was so easy this time. Well, CarMax just ruined buying cars for us. They made it easy, painless, professional, and fast. We came away with a sweet new Jeep exactly like what we were looking for. We even got a price nearly $3k less than the exact vehicle we found at another "real Jeep dealer". They even took the fun out of our trade value and gave us a straight up real (good) value right off the bat...who does that?
So, if you're looking for an aggravating day, a sleezy-nagging-lying salesman, a cheeting-rude-misleading sales manager, or even an argumentative fight over your trade....CarMax just isn't for you.
If you want to overpay and have buyer's remorse 50 feet from the dealership exit...CarMax, again, is just not for you.
Don't go to CarMax looking for a good, old-fashioned car buying experience. They just make it too easy. No fun at all for those of us who like to feel like we've been through a cage match to buy a car...those of us who like the stress and to fight to "earn" that new car with some blood and treasure.

Depends a lot on your representative. I had a gentleman the first time. He offered 1000 for my old Pontiac. Had a lady the second. Offered 250 for my van. The Pontiac I was expecting to get close to nothing for it but the van had a new transmission and engine. Although there was no harm in seeing what they would purchase the vechicle for because I wasn't going to sell I made it clear. They could have said a thousand. I wouldn't of took it as an insult. I won't shop here after that. You should stay positive twards your customers. Or find a different job. I asked about A car not your day.

Car was shipped in from out of state and was as described - nice Impala. Not sure if the inside of the windows had ever been cleaned so working on that. When I went to title the car, found out the title I was given (from CarMax, previous owners, etc) was not filled out correctly. This was after I had spent 2-1/2 hrs driving to the county office, waiting in traffic and in line at the office. I took the title back to CarMax - this was on a Friday am December 14. Of course the person who filled out the title info when we bought the car the week before was off that day - as was the office manager. I dealt with a nice young lady who was not a regular there but had been brought in as a temp worker and was leaving the next day. She could not do anything at that time but said she would turn all the paperwork over to the mgr and he would be contacting me Monday. So no title or plates yet - a frustrating Friday. I would think as many titles as are dealt with on an everyday basis @ CarMax, the people who do the paperwork would know what is required re a title transfer - my thought.

The price was very competitive, I looked at other dealerships and the price was comparable to what I could do if I had to haggle with them. I did have an issue with the features that were listed, however they took care of the problem without any hesitation and I am happy with the outcome. It would have been 5 star except there was several problems with titling the car in NE (it was a TX transfer). That led to a two week delay in which I really needed to have a car. CarMax did refund my transfer fee as an apology for the titling delay.

CarMax is a great place if you are looking for a newer used vehicle. They have lots of selection and once you make your choice of make and model you can search the website for the exact details and features you want transporting the car to your location if needed. The no haggle pricing is nice but in my opinion they still get about $500 to $1000 above suggested retail. What I don't like is having to set an appointment to accomplish anything, I showed up three times wanting to test drive vehicles and found the wait way too long due to the lack of sales staff. Finally broke down and made an appointment.

I've dealt with other dealerships, the moment you're on their lot it's not what can they do for you but what they can put you in to make the most money. Carmax listens to what you want and shows you exactly what you asked for, on the lot or from another location. Transfer fees are nominal if you're getting exactly what you want. I've never felt pressured, start to finish it has always been a pleasant experience. This was the most incredible experience I had ever had.
When my Mom and I went on vacation to Kansas City the head gaskets on the Impala we had went out and while we managed to get to our hotel and enjoy our vacation it was stressful because we needed 2 vehicles due to our individual job situations. In order to get back home we had to rent a Uhaul because we were unable to rent a car due to the fact that neither one of us had a credit card.
I had to borrow my mom's car for a couple days but we knew it would only work very short term, so in determination (and desperation if I am honest) I started looking at and calling every dealership around my area. The problem I continued to run into was I had bad credit for 1 and for 2 I had no money to put down because I used it all to get the Uhaul. After looking up the number for yet another dealership on google I saw an ad for this CarMax along with the number and address. I wrote down both and after yet another let down I called CarMax.
By this point I was in tears, my hopes were down and I literally had no clue what I was going to do if I couldn't get a car- CarMax was very much my last hope.
When Rick answered the phone, I explained what was going on and he reassured me that he would be able to help. He explained the whole process and he was able to get my credit application done and sent via the phone. Within 20 minutes he had me approved for a nice vehicle for zero down and payments within my budget.
Rick truly was a hero to me and if anyone ever finds themselves in a similar desperate situation I say this- give CarMax a call they could very well be your hero as well.

There is no bs and you know right away what rate you qualify for if you choose to finance through carmax and what your trade in value is if you wish to to trade in your old car. A very painless, quick process from beginning to end.

We told them we wanted to look around first. They took our name and directed us to the area we wanted. They gave us about 30 minutes or so and then our saleman Jeff, who was Awesome, came outside in the cold and helped us. This really is the way car shopping should be! We first purchased a used Durango from a very large Omaha multi-store dealer, we'll call Dealer X. (Dealer X combined with Dealer P.) At Dealer X, we had to wait over 2 hours for the finance dude even though we were paying cash. At CarMax, it was less than 20 minutes to get the paperwork ready to sign. Dealer X wouldn't even fill the gas tank even though we spent $30K for a used Durango. At CarMax it was full and freshly washed and vacuumed. Finance dude at dealer X wanted us to give him name, address, phone number, and email of two nearest relatives not living with us - in case our check didn't clear. "Dude, you have the title!" We refused to give out our kids info and torqued off dealer X finance dude. Rude dude didn't even shake our hands. Fortunately, the deal fell through when dealer X couldn't install the promised, upgraded navigation radio. (Fortunately it was in the contract as 'We Owe, You Owe' -- best thing which could have happened). We ended up spending $2K more for a model year newer, less miles and had the nav/radio system and a sunroof. Yes, it took another week+ of car shopping (car had to be transferred from Illinois) but the best possible outcome. At Dealer X the title paper work would be returned in 2~3 weeks even though they cashed the check the next day. We received the title paperwork from CarMax in 7 days -- mostly because there is a 5-day return period. CarMax even paid for the missing Owners Manual - wow! We can't say enough good things about the CarMax business model. Warren, you did good. It really is the way Car Buying should be!

Well I did and had a great experience , there were no hassles , probably the easiest and most comfortable car buying experience I've ever had . U have to know that the cars are overpriced usually and if u want a car transferred odds are very good your going to have to pay for it. Also u will more then likely get low balled on your trade in. That said All of that is upfront which I like. They don't hide it or are shady about fees. I've bought two cars from this dealership. The first one was electric leaf and didn't work out due to Winter cold dumping the range so after a year of ownership I gave it back I told them why and they actually game me great price on the trade in. Bought a Honda Civic after that from them. There warranties were reasonable, all transactions were smooth: the people were great, honest and, patient with me. They saw me as an individual and a return customer and handled the transaction with mutual respect. So yes I would definitely buy from them again.

So around Christmas I decided it was finally in my budget to be able to fully afford my dream car, a Subaru WRX. Loved them, and always have wanted one. I had always assumed CarMax to be fairly expensive but got to looking online. Turns out there was the cheapest ‘17 WRX with the specs I was looking for, located in Texas. The transfer fee was minimal so I pulled the trigger. This was no obligation and would have been a lot cheaper than me driving and getting a hotel to other locations I found. I went in one afternoon to get my trade in appraised, and a gentleman who was helping me named Robert Schinonitz let me know the WRX came in earlier that morning. They quickly got it ready and let me test drive it. I personally work in the auto industry and know how tough it can be, and I’ve always been picky with who I deal with. Guy was no pressure, super nice and didn’t give me any BS. Laid out the facts and let me decide. Traded the old car in that day, had decided I wanted the CarMax warranty (watch the Doug MeMuro Range Rover video), and drove out in the WRX. In the future if I buy another manual car I can’t obtain through my company I hope to only deal with Rob and CarMax. The guy was awesome, and I can’t stress this enough. Everything was fine. The only thing I really don't like is the fact that you must go through to get to get to the car lot. It doesn't allow you to browse umassisted. There's always a person tagging along with you, and I find that somewhat annoying. I bought a Grand Cherokee (my dream car sine high school) from CarMax and it is an amazing "like new" car! I recently bought my sister an Altima from a "regular dealership". It sure made me appreciate the hassle free, pressure free and QUICK! buying experience we had at CarMax!! You won't have to worry about the "old sneaky" sales process or haggling. I used to be a sales person myself and I'm impressed. As far as the one negative review I saw on here about "trade value"... anyone who knows anything about business knows they aren't going to give you list price for your trade and it may not even be in good condition. Sell it private party for max profit/value.

Buy from CarMax and you will never like normal dealership buying ever again. 4 vehicles now at this dealership and I have never had a bad deal. Loved every car and sales experience. I had to use a Carmax estimate on a trade in to get the new dealership to offer another $3k from a trade. Always start with Carmax estimate to find out what your car is really worth in market value for the area.

Outstanding car buying experience! We'd already searched the local website, and found a couple vehicles we were interested in. Our salesman, Larry, was very straightforward and helpful. We applied for a loan for part of the cost of our vehicle, and were approved in less than 20 minutes. We'd found a 2011 Honda Insight that was listed on CarMax's website with about 29k miles for less than $15,000. When we test drove the vehicle, we discovered the mileage was listed incorrectly. The mileage listed was actually kilometers; actual mileage on the vehicle was about 17k, not 29k.
Now here's where the CarMax difference comes in! CarMax STUCK BY THE ORIGINAL PRICE, since that's what they had advertised online! I was quietly advised that if we decided this wasn't the vehicle for us, they would correct the online price and mileage, and the new price would be about $3,000 more due to the lower (correct) odometer reading. Needless to say, we purchased the car. (Extended warranty was also a lower price, due to the corrected odometer reading. We opted for the extended warranty.)
I don't know of many dealerships that would have stuck by the original price, once the odometer reading mistake was discovered. (There's usually a small-print disclaimer about online pricing and possible errors.) We obtained a quality hybrid car that does everything we want it to, for a very reasonable price. We have peace of mind for at least 150,000 miles. And most importantly, we know that CarMax acted with integrity when their honest mistake resulted in a possible loss of profit for the dealership. And I don't know of more than a handful of used car dealerships, at most, that would do the same thing. CarMax may not have made much profit on the sale of our vehicle, but based on our experience with them, I recommend CarMax wholeheartedly to my friends, family, and anyone reading this review!

The people were wonderful, as usual (4th CarMax purchase). The Alabama folks were nice enough to title the car in Alabama prior to transfer, which delayed our transaction in Nebraska by 1 week. Although the store told me they fixed the wiper issue , when I pointed out no fluid was being sprayed, Nebraska's transfer protocol neglected to winterize to NE/SD levels...which means I've had solid ice in my windshield wiper fluid lines for the 1st 2 weeks of ownership. I keep a de-icer spray bottle in the driver door compartment. I spray and cycle the wipers as I enter the car, and pull over to repeat when I can't see through the window.

Stand firm. My wife and I were looking for a car for US, but as the process continued, we realized that the salesperson was only discussing the numbers and financing with me. The salesperson also insisted that we purchase vehicle insurance before completing the deal, but Nebraska law allows for up to 30 days if a person already has insurance, so that became a "solvable issue" later.

Jeff D. Helped with my car being transferred from Oklahoma. The wait was a little longer than normal, but that was not on their end, it was on the OK stores end. I bought a 2006 Hyundai Azera Limited, good price. Leigh-Anne explained how to go into where I pay and everything during the business office part. Sarah in the servicing area helped get my car fixed. The heating elements went out on both front seats and the passanger seat motor needed fixed. It took about a week of them having my car, everything was under the warranty. Even if i had passed the 30 days, MAXCARE would have covered everything. They gave me a loaner car while they had my car. They called every day to make sure everything was ok and to update about the process of my car.

Brian at Carmax is WONDERFUL! We were told by Tuffy Automotive (180th and West Center Rd) that my 2014 Honda Odyssey needed back brakes - that mine were almost gone - and a full transmission flush and a few other things that would total over $700. I took it to Carmax to have the work done (because I got a bad feeling from Danny, the manager at Tuffy). Brian called and let me know that they took it apart, and the brakes still had over half their life left, the transmission fluid was fine and there were no repairs needed. They are right now closing it up and washing it - and I'll get to go pick it up. Saving me $700+ in false repairs! I will NEVER go anywhere but Carmax for repairs - and I have 3 cars, with 2 more teenage drivers on the way. We will be customers for life (have purchased 2 cars from Carmax and been VERY happy!) Thank you Brian!
