Great for primitive camping near Harpers Ferry. Some campsites have access to the river. We had site 4 which had a nice spot for a hammock along the River. I hear sites 18 & 19 also have decent access. Plenty of shade in the spacious sites. Note that there are no showers. The biggest drawback for this campground is the most direct access to many of the sites from street parking is through a steep ditch with no stairs. You can go around on the bike path, but it could add some distance to your trek with all your gear.

Lovely campground right on the banks of the Potomac. Definitely off the beaten path, but well maintained. Access can be a pain with the Canal between the road parking and the sites, so bring a cart or wheelbarrow.

Antietam is a primitive campsite (no water other than one pump for the camp, no garbage disposal [carry in/carry out] and outhouses and vault toilets, no electricity) along the the historic and beautiful Potomac River. If you're out that way and have a tent to pitch and are self-sufficient, it's a great place to stop. Tons of stuff to see and do nearby.
We found this campsite on accident when we headed down to see the B & O Canal, so we didn't have reservations. Gary, the camp host, figured out a way to accommodate us and is the nicest camp host we've ever met. Great tips for where else to go camping, hiking and sight seeing and just a genuinely kind person.

Just so happened that we spent two nights at this Historic location on SEPTEMBER 11...sad and forever memorable...nice campsite...You Wish You Could Be So Fortunate as to camp here...Do It...plus John, the host is very nice and response times are good...

Spent the weekend here and had a wonderful time. Nestled between the Potomac river and the towpath, it's an ideal spot for hiker/biker camping and hike-in was only a few hundred yards from the parking area by the road. There are a couple paths down to the water, but some sites are pretty steep. Access on the South side of the aqueduct leads down to the confluence of the Anteitam creek and the Potomac river. The aqueduct itself is an engineering marvel that carried the C&O canal over the Anteitam creek. Amazing!

A wonderful campsite on the serene banks of the Potomac. Close to both the Antietam Battlefield as well as Harper's Ferry. This well furnished, fire pits/bathrooms, campsite is a great spot to get away while also being able to quickly get to where you're going.

One of the best campsite I have been on that was on a river. The fishing was great, the sunsets were great, the atmosphere was great. Even during COVID, it was a great location.

BRING YOUR OWN WOOD. It took us 2 hours to find wood and it ended up being complete robbery. Other than that, the site is beautiful. Great view of the potomac and the aquadect is pretty awesome. Food lion across the river in WV, the battlefield can be hiked to. We were the only ones there in mid November, and we were never disturbed.
Randy Johnson
This is a nice spot for car coming on the C&O canal. There is plenty of space and good access to the path. You can't drive right up to the camp sites, but the walk isn't long. If you want one of the spots right across from the walking bridge, reserve #8 or #9.
Scott Biggs
Nice small well managed camp site. You will need to walk your gear to your site, which can mean several trips to your vehicle, as some camp sites are far from the parking. The camp is designed mostly for C & O cyclists or hikers. There is water available, but you need to pump it from a well which does not pump very easily, our 5 gal container took 20 min to fill. Close to Antietam, Harpers Ferry, MD Heights and Sharpsburg. Beautiful views, riverside, very clean and quiet. If in Sharpsburg, seek out Capt. Benders tavern.
Sarah Woodling
Great spot near the water. We were the only campers there at the end of November, had a great time even though it rained and was very cold. Plenty of parking, though be wary of which campsite you pick as some have a much longer walk than others. Sites A8-A9 are closest to the walking bridge. Highly recommend bringing firewood. The facilities are clean - again, if distance to an inside potty is important, check the site map first. There's a very bright street lamp across the street by the campsite host area.
All in all, a good location. It's close to Antietam National Battlefield, Shepherdstown, and driving distance to Harper's Ferry. Definitely planning on booking again in the summer.

Lovely campground right by the river! About 3 miles from Shepherdstown, WV on the C&O Canal. Would make a great beginner backpack hiking in from trailhead near bridge to Shepherdstown. $20 per night, self pay.

This is a great group campsite area. Easy access to water, facilities, and fairly flat sites. The camp host for the 2022 season (Glenn) was a treat to talk to. Quick access to local attractions like battlefield and Harper's ferry was a plus. Will definitely return in the future.

This place was great when I was here. There is times when it gets very crowded. It's only a couple hundred yard walk from your vehicle so it's a very popular spot
JOSEPH LEONGUERRERO
Great place! Looking forward to coming here and camp sometime in the future.
Savanah Miller
Beautiful place! I woke up right next to a beautiful creek. Great place to camp in a tent.
Justin Rosentover
This was a beautiful campsite on the Potomac river. Reasonably good bathrooms. Large fire rings were very nice and in good repair. Overall great experience for a family or small group and the campsites are close together so you could fit large groups like scout troops if you got more than one site.
Jennifer Grimsley
The campsites were ok, bathrooms cleaned twice a week. The camp host however really made the experience less than desirable. Every day it was something. We planned on hiking the C&O for the week, however, ended up showing up to our sites early. Good thing because he was in the process of having our vehicle towed. Said he thought it was stolen....then couldn't find our reservations. Overall generally not an easy person to deal with. If you plan on hiking and using this place as a point to drop a vehicle , try to catch the camp host while hes at the camper (good luck) and let them know (no signs stating to inform anyone and the sign for using permits is no longer in use) that is what your plan is. Side note. We'd called the park service, and sheriffs office, who also gave different answers prior to all of this when we inquired what the steps were to camp and leave vehicle's unattended.

It's a small side of the road minimalist camp site but the host was very friendly and inviting the cost was super cheap overall a nice overnight camp site

Rained the whole time and it was still amazing. Quiet, secluded, right by the water with beautiful foliage. So close to so much history. Great place for bird watching and getting away from it all. Only strange thing is you don't check in with anyone, you just post your reservation number up on the post at your site. Be warned that you can't park at the site, you have to walk a bit. Will definitely be back.

Had the greatest day with my mother and grandchildren today cant wait for more fun in the camp
Laura Botero Becerra
Love this place! Very quiet and beautiful by the Potomac River. Highly recommend!

The review you need.
Reservations on the sign say online. Contrary to what we read online. There is no service at the site. So do make the reservations before hand. We had to drive back to town for service.
The sites are in a nice clear walnut grove. Not rocky. But some nuts fell hard on our tent.
There are paths to the river at each site. Some are clearer than others. I advise bringing a machete in case. Rampant with poising ivy and oak. Some spots had nice shoreline while others didn’t have a nice spot to hang out down there.
You are allowed to burn nearby fallen branches. we had to go all the way to WV to Lowe’s to get a good supply. we’re used to locals selling wood at the end of their driveways but we say none of that.
It was buggy. But more moths and insects I’ve never sean before. Not really mosquitos. We were at higher sites though.
Bathroom was outhouse. No light. and extra ports potties. bring bucket if you don’t like that I guess.
parking is accessible along most of the sites. We did bring a wagon which was helpful too.
We had site 17 and 18. There were nicely spaced. 19 and 20 look nice and secluded from others but view of the road alittle still. I think 6-9 are by the bathroom and the light across the street shined on those spots. I would not recommend.
Did not see a ranger or have any issues over a weekday trip.
Overall nice place.

Awesome part of the National Park Service are the mini camps along the C & O canal. I have been to three of these already this is by far the cleanest and the easiest to get to. Four bathrooms, places to fish, swim in the river or in Antietam Creek. It is a good pull out place for tubing Antietam Creek or kayaking. There is no alcohol allowed in the campground.
Eric Fuller
One of our favorite spots to camp near DC. All spots along the river, great biking for kids along the toe path, even an open field (dried, cleared portion of the canal) where the kids can play soccer, etc.
Note you cannot park at sites and at a minimum have to cross the canal and in some cases walk a ways along the toe path to get gear to your site. A wagon is very helpful. Also, the bathrooms are all down near sites 5 or 6 so it can be helpful to have bikes if you're at the higher numbered sites.
It's worth the effort though.
Dan Israel
Had a great time camping with kids at Antietam Creek. It's a beautiful setting & the camp host was friendly & helpful. Not a lot of amenities here, but as long as you know that going in you'll enjoy it.
Scott Upwright
Close to parking and right beside river. The C&O canal is great for walking, running and biking.
Captaincraig And Little lady.
Excellent camping. Very clean and well-maintained. It’s on the honor system pick a site I believe it’s 10 or $15 put it in envelope drop it in the box keep the receipt and put it on the polo at your site. Please just take everything with you so others can enjoy as well and have a great time
Laura McDowell
Nice and peaceful. Jerry is a kind and hospitable host. A bit of a hike from car to site, but a terrific value.
Mark Perschel
Great campsite along the Potomic, Well water and pit toilets...
Jeannine Brewer
Spacious campsites. No cars but close parking. Prepare to haul your gear a bit. No easy river access or boat launch. Very quiet.
Chris D
Clean bathroom for having pit toilets. The bugs are unusually loud, being near a marshy former canal area, so bring ear plugs.
Bill S
An off season visit here found only a few walkers along the pleasant and basically flat tow trail. A quiet place that should be a tenter's paradise in regular season.
Boomer DL
Nice quiet tent only camping along the Potomac.
REBECCA CONNER
Beautiful water front views, lots to do in the area.
Robert Dickson
A great campground for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. Right on the Potomac and the C&O canal trail.
John Lopas
Sites close road (30-5o yards) and each varies in size and privacy, but all have immediate river and canal path access. Human behavior varies but, overall, I never had issues beyond a few late-night revellers.
Kevin Mills
It's well maintained and right on the river. Hard to beat for some relaxing in a tent.
W. Ethan Lick Eagle
Walkable to shepardstown (3miles) which was an absolute gem! We camped here for our honeymoon and had a great weekend.
Mike F
Nice, clean primitive campsites. On the river and has grill, fire ring and picnic table on each campsite.

Great place to watch the water.

Right sized tent campsites right on River.
Joseph Buckles
It's always clean when I go by. It looks busy on holiday weekends. There is always plenty of parking for camping and other recreation.
Kelsy Purnell
Antietam Creek is a basic camp site. Pick a spot near the bridge or bring a wagon. The canal turns into a moat.
James Braeu
Beautiful spot. A little crowded but close to great hiking and nature.
Doves coop
Easy to access to C&O canal and the Potomac River
