Reviews of Cherokee Lakes Campground
Great campsite super happy with the management and the facility. Everything is clean and well taken care of. Bathrooms are new. Management is super friendly and helpful
My family and I had a great time and we will definitely be back. We went primitive (tent) camping and there were only about 3-4 other people camping around us at a time during our weekend stay, but the RV side was packed. Make sure to use plenty of mosquito and tic repellent while you're there and there is a small store located in the front office to buy some if you forget. For my husband, our 1 year old, and myself in a 3 person tent we paid $20 a night. Checked in Friday at 2pm and check out time was Sunday at 12pm, but the owners told us to take our time there was no rush so it was more like 1pm. The owners are a very sweet older couple who were very helpful. The list of rules we were given said you cant bring your own firewood, but we did and they didn't mind. They also sell bundles of wood for $5 each which is cheaper than anywhere I've seen around. There's a pool that closes when the sun sets, and a lake for fishing all night if you choose to. We rented the paddle boat for $10 an hour. They have an exercise room, and laundry room but we didn't use it. The restroom was very clean and so were the showers. For tent camping there was one portajohn which was also very clean. I highly recommend this place and will be returning for fun weekend camp getaways.
I stayed at Cherokee Lakes for 10 months while working in St Louis. The owner, Mike, and entire staff, Nancy, Barry, and everyone was wonderful. They would go way above and beyond what you’d ever expect to help people. The campground was ALWAYS clean, neat in working order. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL I’m the fall and spring. They provided fire pits and picnic tables. The pool and lake I. The summer was great! I’d DEFINITELY recommend Cherokee Lakes to everyone!
Quiet, clean camping at its best! Host and staff are polite and helpful! Showers and bathrooms clean! Will definitely camp here again!
The owner, Mike is a wonderful man. He truly cares about the park and guests. The managers, Nancy & Barry are truly wonderful people. The campground is beautiful!! Our first night was in a pull through, a nice shady pull through. We moved to a back in spot by the lake. We couldn't be happier. I haven't checked out the laundry, restrooms or workout room yet. The pool looks truly inviting. I'll add more photos as I take them. We highly recommend this park but call in your reservation in plenty of time, they stay full.
Have been staying here about a year and a half now and having been in the traveling medical business, I had stayed in several parks across the southeast and Midwest. Plus two other campgrounds here in the STL area. This is by FAR the best "bang for your buck". One thing that made an impression on me when I came up check it out, the owner and I hopped on the golf cart and he took me around the entire place to check it out and expressed to me what he was doing to upgrade the place. He cares (and lives on property). Now after all this time, he's made good on his promises and done the things he's said he would do. And now the shower house is being remodeled. Nice, quiet and friendly folks. And I love being in the country without hearing jets and railroads nearby. Great place. Very comfortable here
So far so good, they are still recovering from the flood so the fitness center is still being worked on. We love our site minus missing a picnic table and the upside down electrical hookup that makes it pretty much impossible to put our surge protector on. Neighbors are quiet and friendly, most of the campers/trailers are kept up and maintained, even the ones that are clearly full timers, a couple could use some work, but for the most part we have been happy. Just hoping the electrical box gets fixed and maybe one day we will get a picnic table. Oh and their pet policy is very flexible, no breed restriction other than no aggressive dogs. And just to pick up after your dog.
Lovely place to tent camp. The front part of the campground is RVs. Tent people follow a little road that leads to a well maintained camp area with trees, picnic tables and fire rings. There is also a well for fresh water. The campground was quiet. The bathrooms at the campground were clean. The staff were super friendly. I highly recommend this place!
Great help even when we came in at 10pm! Cheaper and better than any hotel I've ever stayed at! Restrooms were clean and code accessed, the sites were clean and well spaced, and it was respectfully quiet.
This seems like a nice place, although there are a lot of older full-time, not nice trailers in some of the spots, but if there was anyone in them they were being quiet so no problem. The owner was extremely nice. I told him I wanted a quiet pull through spot if he had one. He said there was one but that he'd been moving a lot of dirt and it wasn't very pretty right now. I said that'd be fine. He was right, there were mounds of dirt, but not right by me and he didn't work while I was there. I had little bodies of water on 3 sides of my trailer as a view. There were geese. It was pleasant. There is a pool and fishing and a pavillion and play area. The pool was not open yet but looked nice enough. This isn't a "fancy" campground. It's a small family campground. There are restaurants and other things within 7 miles, but there is a gas station/convenience store for essentials less than a mile away. I had a nice 2 day stay.
It's the most beautiful place. The people here are so nice and caring, just like a family. Family owned. Has more than 3 lakes, going to have paddles boats in summer, BEAUTIFUL views, plenty of fishing, great walking paths around the lakes, laundry mat, bathrooms plus showers useable 24/7, small gym pending.
Getting a real taste for down home. Great space plenty of room. Trees, lake, no one’s unhappy. We were assisted by a sweet lady. If we are ever in the area again we will seek here. Peaceful. Thank you for your kindness.
Stayed here the weekend of 5/14 to try out full hook ups on my new camper. Have to say it exceeded my expectations. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, even offering to help me hook up since it was my first time. It was a very quite campground as it seems like there are a lot of seasonal renters. There is some road noise but it wasn't enough to bother us. I did not get a chance to fish but a guy said he was catching catfish. I would stay here again.
It's cold cause its winter but so pretty here. Ice in the water. Managment is the best ever. They helped us get settled. I really like it here so far.
Cherokee Lakes embodies what I imagined camping in missouri would be like, merely a mile from the Mississippi River, north of O'Fallon, you'll find the owners are kind, and the accommodations are superb, check this place out!!
The owner was very pleasant and worked with us to find the perfect spot for our camper, for this visit and future visits. We were near the water, so we had to prepare ourselves for bugs and mosquitoes, but it's what we wanted, and it was worth it to be in such a beautiful spot.
Campground you would want to go back to. Quiet, clean, and the staff went above and beyond to get me settled in after a late arrival. Very impressed!
We showed up hoping to get just an overnight spot, but the RV spots were full. We have a self contained Sprinter Van and so they offered us a spot in the tent camping area. Perfect, just what we wanted! We loved the grassy, shady campsites. We really enjoyed our stay and wish it could have been longer. Thank you for letting us stay.
So in theory this looks like a nice campground. However, the "lakes" are tiny ponds that breed mosquitoes and the pool can probably comfortably hold 5 people. The area is close to the city so we ended up going to get ice cream instead of spending any amount of time in the campground. I suppose this would be an ideal site if you only need a place to park your RV for a night. I will add they did have an exercise room and a laundry room! 👍
This was a very clean campground, well lit, with play area and swim pool in season . There was also a shower house, laundry and exercise room I did not use or visit. Everyone we met was pleasant. The owner, Mike, was very friendly and hospitable. Location was great! Some campsites were larger than ours, I considered ours small. Enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider if we decided to stay in this area again.
This is a very nice campground with pool and fishing. Fitness center is nice and shower house is very nice. The owner, Mike is very helpful. Our air conditioner went out in the middle of a heat wave. Mike went out of his way to help us replace the air conditioner. He was concerned with our comfort during our stay. Mike, Tina and Grandma are friendly and helpful during your stay. The WiFi is down at this time. Hopefully they will have that repaired soon.
Friendly owners and reasonably priced with nice trees and pool with laundry facility and workout room.
GREAT management by caring, helpful people! Everything is Super clean! Spacious bathroom/showerhouse. Pretty spot by the lake, shady AND convenient. Enjoy the CLEAN pool! I always stay here whenever I am in St. Louis. Please say hello from me!
Nice quiet campground. Our particular site didn't have a fire ring, which was disappointing. The bathroom had no toilet paper, but thsts a minor oversight. Owners making many improvements. Very clean. Host led us to our campsite, which was very courteous!
Cherokee Lakes was just what we needed for our little camping trip. The restrooms are some of the nicest I have seen in a private campground. The pool was just the right spot of refreshment we needed! We were having some problems with our RV but Mike, Tina, and Grandma went above and beyond to help us resolve the issue. We'll be repeat campers for sure!
It's a nice place. Small "yards". Lots of longer term campers. We wanted to go somewhere not far just for the weekend. It was good. Owners are very nice. Nice lake.
Great stay, very caring staff. This was our first trip with our new camper and was wonderful to have a place close to home in case we forgot anything. We did have an issue when we went to leave with the water spicket, called the number as the office was closed, and someone was there in less than 5 minutes. Overall, had a good time, and will be back.
We stopped for 1 night. The sign and entrance off the main road make you wonder what you might find. Behind what looks like an abandoned car dealership, the park is a pleasant surprise. It is older, but clearly the owner is working to renovate it. My girls were bummed the pool was closed for repairs, maybe next year. The park has many long term residents that were friendly. Our site was shaded and level. I think it is a good value for the night. What is nice is that it is quiet, no RR tracks or highway noise. The laundry room was nice and clean. We were in a 31' Class C 30 amp.
Come stay at this magnificent campground in the heart of the country! Mornings are quiet upon the lake with ducks swimming. Afternoons are full of beautiful laughter from the playground and pool area. And my favorite, the evenings. Tons of fun sitting next to the lake with a glowing orange campfire. Marshmallow dripping down your s’mores and children’s faces covered with Hershey’s chocolate!
I tell ya, we have had the best time While our home is being built! ❤️
If you ever come this way, definitely stay at Cherokee Lakes, they will always be my family!
Now we're a couple without kids, so our needs are pretty simple, but his park met them well. Quiet, good hookups, working machinery, cheap laundry, small pool & picnic area - it was a great place to stay.
Very nice people. Beautiful scenery and its affordable. Fun place to pitch a tent and hike or even catch some fish.
Took our camper there this weekend. Place DOES have a lot of permanent residents but everyone was nice. Owner making improvements. We had a lot of fun and no one bothered us. Lady in office was nice and helpful.
All gravel sites. We had full hookups, fire pit and decent picnic table. Prices very resonable! Road noise wasn't a problem, and we were in front of campground. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and will be back to camp at cherokee lakes again.
They are some of the most polite people I have ever dealt with in camping establishment. Thank you very much for your hospitality we had a great time. and to the maintenance guy that helped us hook up our water and sewer because my husband is partially disabled.
At 1st, I wasn't too happy about the spot we were given, but I talked to the staff and they moved us to a site much more to my likings. I can see that the new owner is doing all he can to fix the place up. The fishing is great, but you gotta watch out for the goose poop. The pool should be up and running shortly. The laundry room is adequate for one person at a time. The bathrooms could use some serious updating and some handicap accessories are needed in the shower area but seeing as most RVs have their own, this update can be overlooked for now. It's a dog friendly park and there's hope on the horizon for a dog park. With little options for rv parks in the area, this one is worth the stay.
This is for sure a family friendly place that is close to O'fallon and about 30 minutes to almost anything in St Louis.
The staff and owners are very nice and helpful. We had a hard time trying to back in my 34' camper and Mike (owner), Nancy (front desk) and her husband did an awesome job getting it backed in and set up. Not to mention it was freezing cold outside. They are always willing to help or answer questions; it is nice to feel like you are at home away from home with friendly neighbors, staff and atmosphere!
If you are looking for a RV park to settle in or pass through for a night, hands down A+.
I would definitely recommend this campground for a getaway to STL.
Stayed a couple of days and my wife and I both enjoyed our stay. The bathrooms needed some TLC, but they were working on renovations when we were leaving, by replacing all of the toilets. The office offers laundry detergent for sale. When we needed to purchase some, they were out. The owner of the park actually gave us some to use from his home, free of charge. While my wife and I were away for the day, it started to rain. The owner of the park went above and beyond to cover our pop-up camper with a tarp, because we had left the windows open. Very greatful for that, and highly recommend this rv park. We will definitely return and stay again.
December 19, 2016 overnight stop-stay. Most Google reviews are old. New owner officially takes over January 2017. He has already started improvements with laundry and bathrooms are high on his agenda to start soon. I asked his background and experience. Almost all his life has been around Marina's and Campground's. That speaks volumes to a full-timer camper like me. He is aware of and sensitive to reviews. He has read them and expects to respond with action. It will take time. I feel his energy. My experience with this stay was close to 5 star and I expect he will earn it soon enough. Please know that I don't write a lot of reviews. I do when I experience good and pending good from a business or a person. Thank you for reading and allow this year around campground consideration in your plans. Me? 35 years camping experience and 18 months full time, so far, with over 30 states visited in past 18 months. Update November 2021: Google informed me that my photo of the campground during that one overnight stay now has been viewed over 51,000 times. WOW, right? We now have over 7 years full time, same 5th wheel & same Ram 2500 with 6.7 Cummins that love towing. 45,000 miles on trailer, 132,000 miles on truck, over 150 RV Parks, in over 45 states. Been to Bangor Maine, Key West, San Diego, CA and everywhere in-between. I remember the stay at Cherokee Lakes very well. MIKE's still doing well based on reviews here on Google Maps! I would return but we tend to move along new roads as much as possible. We love new scenery 😍 and seeing the USA. We do pick a 5-month spot to winter south plus 5-month spot to summer, so our pattern is moving down new roads, new RV Parks, during 2 to 4 months a year.
I stayed here for over 3 months while on assignment for work. This place is great! The owner is hands on and ready to help when needed. Nancy the office manager and her husband were very welcoming and made me feel at home. Thank you to all for everything you did to help!
If you are expecting a five star RV resort...this isn't it. However, this place is well kept and the folks who run it are more than accommodating. The shower houses look like they could use a little tlc but they work, and have hot water! I can't speak for the RV side, as I don't require hook-ups. But the tent sites are quiet and sit towards the back of the property. For $15 a night, you can't beat it!
It was beautiful relaxing the most nicest people one of the best times of my life
The pool is open and refreshing and clean. Everyone is really happy and enjoying their time here. Great place for meeting new friends.
New owner is wonderful. Brought this place back to great again. Nice clean relaxing place to RV, camp and fish.
I visited it briefly bc I was buying a car from a man that lives there. The people seemed very nice and laid back. The scenary was beautiful with a lake and lots of wildlife. Saw several cranes flying. When my boyfriend and I decide to go camping Cherokee lakes will be definitely considered. The prices are reasonable as well.
This place offers a wonderful primitive campground at price that cannot be beat by any other local places I looked at. There was wood ready and available with nice pits and clean grounds. We stayed one night and I slept great even though the highway seems close o never heard it. Lots of nice trees to hammock in I was sad I forgot mine. I plan on coming back again if I'm ever in the area again. Hope your stay is as good as mine.
Cherokee Campground is a great place to go and spend some time away from home when you're out camping. the owner and host are extremely nice and very helpful it has an on-site laundry facilit, also it's right on the outskirts of St Louis so if you're interested in fine dining or any kind of dining or carousing with the locals you can just jump right into town . My name is Philip, I would like to say "Thank You" for being a Great Place to call home, while I was away from home. Definitely a 5 Star rating....
Never heard of before till news mentioned they privately needed help filling sand bags. I can’t do whole lot due to my disability but they offered a comfy supportive chair and all of old young all sorts of differnt personalities helped each other. There was even a couple there the husband bounded by a wheel chair and the wife able to kinda assist him so they were both doing what they could. I always try to volunteer or help whomever I can when I can. We all should as humans.
Great place for fishing. Very friendly. A lot of semi permanent residents make a caring community there. Only problem is that it's on a flood plane. They have pumps to keep the waters down, but it can sometimes still get a little soggy in some areas.
We had a great time here, though short. We were traveling through and reserved a tent site for the night. The price was very reasonable and the proprieters were very kind to us. Included with our very nice tent site was hot showers and restrooms. A laundry and exercise room are also available. Would recommend from our experience.
The whole staff was incredibly helpful and friendly and honestly blessed our ministry! The owner Mike went way beyond hospitality and customer service! He spent a full 45 minutes helping me obtain emails and faxes so we could renew our tag on our RV that was close to expiring! And didn't charge us for all of his help. What a God-send. The campground is located by a lake and it feels like you are in the country. You bet we will return in the future!
Barry and Victoria Ward
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff, Mike especially, were very friendly and helpful. The campground has new ownership and they are working hard to improve and upgrade and it shows! We will be back for another stay!
Took my family and friends memorial day weekend. We all had a great time. Good quiet place to camp. 2 nite stay is perfect. Paddle boat ride was a blast. Alot of recent renovations. I plan to return frequently! Great staff Thanks again
Stayed here for work I cant say enough nice things about Nancy that works the office! The things she did to help me on my stay were great the campgrounds are clean and quiet will always stay here when in the area!
Great place to stay, quiet & peaceful, great owner!!! This guy is always ready to lend a helping hand!!!
Here on an extended stay, very affordable price, good layout, and ever improving amenities.
Covered picnic area for outdoor events, workout room, paddle boats, free fishing, small commissary at the office, ice & sodas....
Cute campground
The NICEST people run this place
Very very clean and modern bathrooms
We didn’t have time to use the pool but it looked clean
Excellent place. The people are very nice. Services are excellent. The new management turned this place around. Been there before and it is ten fold better. Can't get much better but if that is possible then Mike Burns will do it
I'm giving this campground 4 stars because they are putting money into improvements. My cousin has been a resident there for a few years so I DO notice the work being done. Previous to this year I wouldn't have given them 2 stars.
Our favorite campground. Beautiful and peaceful.
Owner and staff are friendly. They go out of their way to make sure your stay is very nice. You wont be disappointed here.
The staff are always nice and helpful. Lots are a little small but are alright. Camp ground is clean.

Clean lake and the place is kept up with and clean. But not a very good fishing spot at all.
Small place with beautiful people.
Great owners And employees always willing to help you out if you need something fixed. And they are always doing upgrades. Pool is now open
A beautiful country atmosphere, the pool is awesome! Super clean restroom and shower facilities.

Really nice with shaded lots
This campground is definitely a place to stay a few days or forever!

Friendly staff and neighborhood. Quiet. Family and pet friendly.
Small RV/tent camping park. Lot of long term RV parking..good for week end or overnight stops
Cons: Lots of long-termers in a cramped space. Pros: Not far from the Interstate, restaurants and shopping. Moderate rates.
Clean and friendly. Will definitely keep this spot saved for future trips
Not bad but not my type of camp good if your working in town or stopping over nite
Great family place to get away and all people who work there are great
RV Park rather than Campground. Friendly staff. Full hookups.
