Reviews of Barton Park
Jesica Brown
There's so many places you can start and end. So much fun! Be safe and wear a life jacket or at least have one nearby. An oar is a great help. There's some rocky areas, so watch your butt! There's also 1 or 2 crazy rapids that can flip you, so be careful. Don't litter!! Some areas will provide you with a yellow trash bag. Be safe and have fun!

I'm sad to see how Barton has changed over the last 2-3 years. We have a large RV and have always stayed in the East Campground which is reserved for RVs. The trees and bushes are now overgrown so that they hang over the roads and campsites. I get the "pinstripe" type scratches on my RV when I drive through the reservation lane. Then I try to dodge the rest of the branches.
They have also "progressed" to a new online reservation system. No longer can you reserve through the camp host or the rangers at the park. I think that must be why they put up "Campground Full" signs at the entrance of both campgrounds. But the campgrounds aren't even a third full. Also the grassy middle area of the East Campground used to be mowed so kids could play ball and run around there. Now it is just left dry and overgrown. It looks like it would fuel a grass fire pretty easily.
There are 5 individual shower rooms. Three of them are locked up, one of which is the ♿️ accessible one. So only 2 are available for use. The picture below shows what one looks like.
Finally, the prices have skyrocketed over the last 2 years. For you Oregon residents it has gone from $28 a night to $37 a night in that time. I'm a non-Oregon resident. I travel here each year to visit my relatives in Oregon. We like to stay for a month or so. We've spent lots of money at the local businesses. We've attended the churches. We've visited and financially supported local schools. We have volunteered in local communities. But now Barton has decided to raise their non-resident rates to $46 per night! That's up from $28 just 2 years ago. It's now cheaper to stay at a nice RV resort with full hookups at their weekly rates. And of course there is an additional $11 fee to use the online reservation system. If I were to book a Friday and Saturday weekend it would cost me $103!
I'm sorry to see all this happen. I miss the old Barton. I can only assume that Barton no longer wants out of state campers at their park.
By the way, if anybody wonders why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 star just look at the last picture.
Update: We came back to Barton for a few days, and we could see positive changes. The long dry grass was mowed. A lot of the trees were trimmed. The broken fence was repaired. The "Campground Full" signs are now only up when the campgrounds are nearly full (maybe some were reserved by no-shows). Hopefully these are signs of change, and they'll keep working towards a better run park like it used to be. They've still priced us out, but if I were an Oregon resident it would be a place to where I'd return.

Always Beautiful Nature to be seen and Peaceful..
Floating the Clackamas with your girlfriends is always a great day... Relaxing. The beautiful homes along the river are spectacular. Please respect there privacy. And pack out what you pack in... The water can be deceiving. The current is strong and there are large Rocks underwater... Be safe and respect others.. Respect the wild life along the way.. Lots of parking space. But if you want to be closer to the boat ramp you should try to get there early.. porta potties are available. Picnic tables and covered areas for family gatherings thru out the park...
Cara Lewis
For my first camping experience with the family and my first time camping in general it was amazing!! Real clean area. I didn't want to leave.

Nice park, hit and miss as far as people go. This is a well known begining to a popular river float "Barton to Carver". People often smuggle alcohol, blast loud music, and briefly overrun the park before heading on their way. It's so popular you can run into anyone, nice people and horrible people. Being diplomatic helps. There is usually some trash and I usually pack some out and see others doing the same. The quiet edges of the river are really nice to sit even with the people coming and going on busy days and there are tons of wild life. There's a huge bald eagle in my photo, even! BE VERY CAREFUL. This river is glacial fed and is very cold even in the summer. Hypothermia sets in quickly to inhibit swimming ability. There are fast spots with under currents *right next* to slow, safe spots. Watch your children and pets at all times (I had to rescue my on-leash dog once!). Wear PFDs if you swim in the river, it is NOT SAFE.
Olga Spitsa
I love this park ! Its $5 to get in though. That keeps it kinda less busy and really clean . We love coming to the river and then letting the kids play at the playground .
Debbie Mccollum
Bathrooms are not open consistently. During the last 5 years they have not been open to the public during the all their hours of the day & eve before park closes. We pay to use all the park facilities. Water at fountains are not working either. No portapotties by the boat ramp anymore. Sad people need those right before you go down the river. Bathrooms are far from ramp.
Patrick
One out of service restroom... In the tent area we camped in, the next bathroom is a bit of a hike out. Hiking paths occasionally go through the fence? The fence is either cut or just pulled back. Not very official looking yet the hiking sign clearly indicates it is the path. From the tent site to the river the walking path is on the road. A trail to the river with no or limited road use would be preferable
Patricia Webster
Beautiful, but very difficult to get down to the water because there is a long bank of boulders to navigate down to the river's edge. My dogs went down easily and loved playing in the river with other dogs.
Tony Acker
So much fun floating the Sandy! Pretty safe, relatively shallow. Makes for a beautiful warm afternoon.
DVT
First time there. The site was clean. Bathroom and showers were very clean. Will definitely be back.
J List
Nice RV park. We enjoyed our stay here.
Fran Henderson
We camped M-F in our RV in the meadow section of the park. The sites offer water and electricity. There is a dump station near the park exit. The sites are well maintained and the restrooms are among the cleanest I have seen in 45 years of camping. Climbing structures for the kiddos. There is river access however while it is within the park it is not walkable from the campground so you will need a vehicle to enjoy tubing/rafting/swimming. Great spot for tents and/or RVs of any size.
Anna M. Parras
Clean, easy access to towns around you but hidden away enough to feel away.
Jolynn Wolf-Verbeck
This place prices have definitely gone up for tent sites....I like the place but the fact of being locked in at 10pm to 6am and quiet time is 10 pm kinda feels like if you are in jail or in trouble lol and the fact that we have a COVID-19 epidemic and delta their is NO SOAP IN THE BATHROOMS! WOMEN & MEN!! SO you are paying 34.00 for site 6.00 vehicle fee and $10.00 reservation fee and $6.00 wood fee? But no soap after you go to the bathroom? 2 night stay $80.00 .....🤷🤔🤦🤨?
Michael Walker
I'm not sure what changed this summer but I feel like the park staff finally got a good grip on handling the summer rafter traffic. For several years it's been an absolute cluster every time rafting season starts, but now during peak days they have two attendants letting in traffic to the park through the gates instead of just one like in years past. They also have security down at the park most of the time during th summer now which is hugely helpful. And instead of using their big old baseball field for absolutely nothing they're now using it as a parking lot during summer. I'm very happy with how they improved the park this summer!
Heidi Quast
Good sized spots, beautiful setting, easy access to the Clakamas River, playgrounds and nice camp hosts. I'd definitely recommend camping here!!
Daz PWC
Great location and of course river access, but the park employees come around at 10pm to tell everyone to be quiet then leave. There are no subsequent checks. Our neighbors partied till 3am, drunk, swearing etc. No consequences.
Paul Warde
Barton Park is a nice park just make sure you get a camp spot with no holes in the ground bring your own toilet paper pick up dog s*** with and bring your own firewood and your own trash bags cuz they don't pick up your trash anymore besides that it's a nice campground it's cheap easy to get to and fun my sister will be adding photos
James Stump
Cool little park and friendly park staff.
We paid for full hookups but when we got to the site, the sewage pipe was broken with a caution sign around it. We were only staying one night, so not a huge deal, we just dumped on the way out the next day. A heads up or discounted rate would've been nice, but no big deal.
Our site was by the road leading down to the river which was loud all evening with drunk people coming off from floating the river, so if you don't have white noise, prepare for that (AC drowns it out nicely though)
Charlie Skrabek
Great place to camp. Nice showers and washrooms. Small park to play in, lots of grass area. Kids movies at night. Close to a river.
Tina Mantia
Great family park alot of parking too!
Kristen McMullin
The parking lot was busy with floaters, but we found plenty of spots to recreate by the river. With Covid-19 pandemic in full swing, I was surprised to see the restrooms open. As I walked inside I was so shocked by how clean, shiny, and safe the restrooms were! Bravo to all of the Park Rangers and Park Workers for working so hard for us to stay safe 💚💙
Samuel Melton
This is a nice quiet place to camp
R&R Property Services, Inc.
Grandbabies 💞 it. Finnaly a place for them to run around. Wish the play ground was open. …

If you come here you need to float the river. Look up Barton to Carver OR Milo Mcciver to Barton floats. We have a 32' toy hauler and this is by far the best campground close to Portland that can accommodate larger vehicles. All sites are partial hookup: water and electric and they have a dump station on the way out that is free if you stay at the park. They have a lot of sites but the campgrounds are almost always full on summer weekends. You do not have to book months in advance except for holiday weekends but you can look up/reserve online. You can usually find a spot about 2 weeks in advance. The east campground is for RV/trailers only and less trees and for people who want to sleep in until 10am. The west campground allows tents and trailers/RVs. They have bathrooms/showers at both loops. Hosts are usually nice.
Tamara Fox
We love it here. Nice big camp sites, trails and River access.
Bee-Boo Boo-Bear
Great park with a little river close by. The sites are spread apart nicely and private compared to most parks. It is hands down the cleanest, well maintained camp ground I've been to in several years. Want a night or two away, I suggest Barton Park!
Renee Keltner
Park is clean and well maintained. RV sites don't have sewer hook-uos, but the dump site is big and easily accessible.
There are two camp section, east and west, with a group tent area near the second camping area. The camping feel of the first section feels like a meadow, whereas the second camping area feels more forestry, and tree dense.
Neither camp area is on the river, which is why I took 1 start away. The day use only area is the only area near the river and it isn't super accesable to the water or good wading areas. Plus its a bit of a hike up and down the hill if you walk to the water.
County sherif is around frequently to enforce laws. And the rangers lock the camp gates from 10pm to 6am to keep unwanted guests out, but will open the gate as needed for campers.
All common areas, including restrooms and showers, were cleaned several times while we were there. And were in a clean state the whole time we were there.
They also close the gates on the weekend after a certain number of guest come in for day use. This is to help maintain numbers suitable for socially distancing during the covid19 outbreak.
It is a nice place with friendly hosts and staff. We will stay here again for sure!
ocean vast naturaleza
beautiful grounds, well run place, everything functioning and clean. very friendly staff. accommodating to our wanting to move to a different camp site.
folks were a bit noisy during "quiet hours" but our camp host was willing to intervene.
recycling bins were overflowing, eyesore, unusable.
Sara Angel
We camped up here for two weeks. Both the east and west side camp grounds are amazing. Beautiful scenery. The bathrooms were always kept clean. And quiet time was enforced and we still had a blast.
Dahiana Oliver
Camping here is always great!!! Love Barton Park and soooooo close to the river, just love it...
Pamela Hathaway-Brandt
We are spending the long holiday within an hour of home for the third year in a row. It's a place we can just do what we want. Kids have a play area and the dogs enjoy the walks.
Ralf Cunningham
Nice park. Campgrounds are busy.
Beverly Tuttle
The camp hosts Zula..Bob..and Jay were very nice folks! We spent almost 2 weeks there and it was like staying at a hotel but with thinner walls (we were tent camping). The park and its facilities were very clean and accommodating. I highly recommend this park!

This place was super cool they had a great swimming hole for the older kids and the perfect swimming hole for the younger kids there's a park right there that the kids can go to and play at it has showers bathrooms you have electricity at your site and running water highly recommended
Jonathan Cox
Beautiful park with over 100 camping sites. Several playgrounds, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and there's even an outdoor cinema screen. There's boating access to the river and many different fishing spots. Additionally, each campsite has it's own power hookups and the restrooms are very clean and heated!
Angela Christensen
We have a family reunion there every year. Everyone always has a great time. We go in August and it's a very busy place. I'm not sure if its luck or if it's always easy to find a spot to park. We've been doing it there for five years now. We're always able park close to our group.
Joshua Clark
This is the third year our family has visited. Great campsites with fire pits, wood, potable water, picnic benches, electricity, and a park with bathrooms and showers. You can't beat it! Did I mention the Weekend movies in the park at the center of the campsite? Love, love, love it!
Sarah Welch
Camped overnight. Busy little campground. Sights are to on top of eachother for my liking yet it was a fun night in the rv. Big open spaces to throw the ball and run around. Nice playstructure. Clean bathrooms and showers.
Ady Rey
We were here for a family church camp. Camp sites were clean, was surprised to see the staff cleaning bathrooms, surandings, driveways, playgrouns and picnic areas throughout the day. Most camps I have been do not do cleaning throughout the day but until the end of the day. I believe this is soooo key to keep a camp this clean. I also was very happy to not to bring a ton of quarters for showers. Showers were spacious and quarter free showers with hot water. Showers are so important to me when camping in the summer time. The picnic shelters had clean cement floors very well kept and painted picnic benches. I was glad to see these shelter tables so clean and not worry about pooped tables to have our lunch. Tumbs up for this camp, also for the security patrols I was able to see around. Felt more safe in this camp at night time with my kids wanting to do so much around.
Em Larraga
Love the river here, good for families and friends. Not much current unless your in the middle of the river.
Stephanie Wood
Clean park, the camp host was nice. The sherriff hangs out and runs plates in the parking lot by boat ramp. No alcohol allowed unless in the campground. The parking attendants in the field were very rude. Not a very friendly vibe here. Campground is nice.

Recently stayed at Barton East. This area is the newest and landscaping does not provide much shade or privacy. I was told water supply problems prevented irrigation, hence the lawn areas were quite dry and brown. It is my understanding the water issues have been solved so, hopefully the area will begin to green-up. The showers and restroom areas can use additional attention, cleaning a little more often would be nice. The push button showers are awful. Three button pushes to get past the cold water and if you do another three it moves to the warmer than comfortable side. 30 to 45 seconds per button push. Reminded me of water rationing in the military. For the most part we found campground to be quite nice. All staff and hosts I encountered were pleasant and accommodating. Many people have commented about the rules and some disagree with all or part. It is my opinion that in such a large park that provides areas for overnighters, rv's, and day users certain rules are required to help keep the areas safe and clean for all to use. This area is definitely clean and we always felt secure. Can some of the help possibly benefit from a a visit to "nice" school, sure, but you can find poor service or rude people just about anywhere, if you are looking. Common sense does not find its way into everyone's life, unfortunately.
We found this campground to be relaxing, and a great place to use as a base while visiting in the Portland area. We enjoyed our stay and tried to extend a few more days, however the park seems to be at capacity on weekends.

Barton Park is a lovely setting and the fact that it is within an hour of Portland makes it a spot that we will surely visit time and again. Particularly given the very positive experience that we had there last weekend. Clackamas Parks made Barton Park available to the Boy Scouts Cascade Pacific Council for its annual Camporee, the weekend before the season opened. This surely must have required a ton of preparation on the part of the park crew, and I must say that the park was absolutely pristine... clean and beautifully maintained. The bathrooms were spotless. Ponds, trails and plenty of green space in which to watch the busy birds and other wildlife... sublime. Park ranger, Thomas Gray, and his crew were top-notch, seeing to our every need... with smiles all the while. We are looking forward to returning very soon.
James Evans
Awesome they use in camping park managed by the County!
Very clean and well-maintained Park with quite a few picnic areas including large group!
The camping area was very clean and friendly, and with the park nestled right next to the Clackamas River makes it a definite plus!
Susan Nelson
Was there June 2015. Nice park, nice trails, brand new campground. Camped there in a fifth wheel. Campsites a little too close together for me, LOTS of rules, be sure you read them well. Even the tiniest of rules are enforced without consideration of circumstance. Gates are locked promptly at a specific time at night, no phone numbers available to reach anyone.
Benjamin Joseph
Very pretty, rather quiet and peaceful (we were in the RV-only East campground)--save for an occasional plane making its approach to PDX. Also appreciated the nice crew and host. Absolutely stunning spring weather rounded out a great weekend!
Roan O.M.
We start and end floats here all the time, tons of parking.
David Good
This is a great park! Seems to have it all -- multiple areas for day use... river access with a boat ramp... multiple playgrounds (with updated playground equipment -- one having several slides for the kids with a combination of spiral and straight slides)... and a lot of pavilions which would be perfect for large groups meeting up and/or eating. They have several camping areas... with everything from tent camping to small and medium-size RV camping, and even one section (loop) dedicated to RV camping only. We have a big motorcoach (40 foot diesel pusher) and snagged one of the pull-thru "loop" spots. Made it in without issue. Cellular access is perfectly fine, unless you're down the hill near the boat ramp (then it can get spotty for some carriers). In the RV section we were able to get cellular connections good enough for streaming. One note about this park, which is unusual -- the close all the gates at 10:00 PM. Seriously -- they have a guy out there looking at his watch and will lock the gates at 10:00 PM... no sooner; no later. They do this for security reasons, and they'll only open the gates up for an emergency -- so make sure you have all your fun in the area and are back by that time, or you might find yourself parking in the entrance parking lot and walking to your campsite (assuming you're staying the night). We went about 30 minutes out to have dinner with friends... right around 7:00 PM. Portland gets a bit more congested than other cities of the same size -- even on the weekends -- and people LOVE to drive in ALL lanes of the freeway at a slow rate (doesn't seem to be a "slow to the right" mentality in this area). Although we got to the restaurant at 7:00 PM, we barely made it back to the park by 10:00 PM (literally seconds to spare). The gates open back up at 6:00 AM. It's a beautiful park... very well maintained... and the camp hosts were an absolute pleasure to talk to. Everyone seemed to be in a wonderful mood. Book as far in advance as you can, as this is a popular spot in the spring and summer.

Super friendly staff and beautiful wooded sites to choose from. However...
If you are looking for peace and quiet, pick another campground! Leaf blowers, loud tractors, and very unhappy leashed dogs make for a loud camping experience.
There is only one bathroom in the entire campground, no porta potties, so be ready to hike across the campground whenever you need to pee! Not an issue for the RV-ers, but it is for the tenters.
Like I said, great staff, beautiful scenery, fresh air, and as long as you don't mind the suburban sounding racket, it's a decent campground. :)
Nicole Bagley
I stayed for a week here with my kids and German Shepherd. They were incredibly nice. The lady at the entrance gate was amazingly helpful in working with my family. I will definitely be staying here again. Rvs beware spot 31 has no way of balancing. The entire spot on on a hill.
Rodante Baysa
Park host very nice and friendly. Range always tells you when the gate is closing at 10pm. Park very clean. We only reserved 3 sites; all 12 kids were happy including the adults! Mahalo!
Cheryl Steen
It was a very nice place to camp ,but if you reserve a camp site on line make sure you check to see if you reserve a site that u really want because they have what they call primitive sites with no electricity plug ins or water and they are away from the bathrooms.May cost a little less but I have to have running water close by to wash dishes and electric to charge my phone, and within walking distance of a restroom. The showers are free but don't expect the water power to benust like home it's not but it's warm. They also sell bundels of wood and ice .Store close by just in case you forgot something.
Ardis Keller
A very peaceful place to be. Being new to the RV life we found this little paradise in the trees. Kelly ,the park host , is most helpful and personable. We will definitely be back again and I would and will highly recommend this park to anyone.
K. Ching
Great boat ramp to launch your float
GRIZZLE BEAST
Eastside campgrounds and bathrooms are clean and quiet, and mostly have shiny RV's; westside camp is more tents and the bathrooms are broken or messy. You feel the divide a bit. Camp hosts and volunteers are wonderful and kind, at least.
Maria Haser-Yleizah
First time camp here with our church group.
I like how each campsite has their own water line and power. Thanks for accommodating us.We like it here. Very Clean camping area.
Dawn Rosiejka
Campground is clean and lovely. Bathrooms and showers well stocked and maintained. Appreciated the pics on the reservation site, our campsite is better than promised.
Terry C
Great camping ground, but if you're looking for privacy this is probably not the place. It does have water and electric hook ups which are nice for urban camping. Also excellent brewery nearby.
Jedidiah Bartlett
Great little park. Tented here as basecamp for exploring Portland, put us in striking distance of all Portland has to offer, and even let us take a day trip to the coast. Bathrooms/showers etc... are all kept up very well
David Duryea
Really enjoyed the weekend camping. Very clean park! Rangers were accommodating and super nice.
Taba Luedtke-Phillips
Large park with nice river access and great picnic areas. Most of the camping spots are a little cramped and very open, you're basically just on a field. Probably good for RVs though.
LISA
Grew up going there..got married there ..and have family reunions there..Beautiful place..
Sharon Anderson Johnson
We just got back from one night camping in our trailer. The East park was excellent and so well maintained!! The Camp Host was so friendly and helpful to us. Thank you!
Michael Battle
Got a great spot, nobody around. But the random child biking through my site (#54), had me a little perturbed. I don't have children and don't feel like I should have to "put up" with someone else's poorly trained, mannerless, and overall intrusive offspring.
Ricardo Gutierrez
Excellent place for camping. Cool river. Really nice camp attendants. Very busy on the weekends. So nice and quite during the week. I was there for two weeks camping ⛺️
Rene Anderson
We had a great time. Showers are very clean and warm. Will stay again.

Best starting point for floating down.
Dale Breeding
I usually only go to use the RV dump but it sure seems like a nice park and campground.
patricia keen
Had a wonderful time camping
Hannah
I actually used to stay at Barton during the summers when I was younger, so going for this weekend was fairly nostalgic. Other than that, I've always liked Barton and there's quite a bit to do near there.
Damon Kidman
Amazing staff here! They constantly clean and make their rounds. Clackamas river here is beautiful. Overall a good place for the family or just to get away
Dalton Edwards
Great campground. Good value. Showers are cold and you have to press the button every 20 seconds. Very annoying.
Steve Shoults
Nice campground. We stayed in our 35 ft motorhome in the West Campground. Only knock was no dewer hookup. Facilities were excellent.
Mitchell Berhoveren
Nice site. Tucked in the trees
F K
So far so good, only been here one night and quiet...hopefully one of the many rude, selfish and thoughtless dog owners won't come and let their dog ruin the serenity as these thoughtless owners do so often in so many parks.
Brian McIntyre (Hatchi)
Free showers, no wifi, flat campsites, very nice hosts, late check ins until 10pm. Accesses the Clackamas River. Super nice.
Kathy Fry
A great park, we love it here, the county rangers are on their game and all work hard in keeping this park in perfect condition. We did have a crawdads pot taken... booohooo
R Raw
Insanely crowded on the weekends. If you're planning to arrive after 1p, don't bother. They shut the park down & don't allow admittance (even foot traffic.) If you want to float, get there early!
Adam Lindsay
The park in general is pretty nice and well kept up. However, personally I dont mind the camping so much.
Yolanda Real
We stayed for seven days, it has clean restroom, close to near towns, near river activities. Lots of hiking in near by towns. I will recommend!
ruth pacheco
Beautiful place to go camping it's right on the Clackamas River great for family reunions as well they are willing to accommodate family so they can camp close together
Dianne Jewell
Beautiful, well maintained park.
They do Not, have showers for non camping visitors,as stated on website, & at paygate entrance.
Johnny Watson
I've been going here since 1982, when I skipped school with some seniors. I took my kids here to raft down to the Willamette. Just be careful of thieves.
rod
One of the cleanest campsites around with easy access to the Clackamas River
Jayson Schrank
Great clean facility they are really on top of it here good for kids as you can see play ground from most camo sights
Amy Fredrickson
Great place for tubing.
Ruby Davis
Great place to float the river in summer. Has large picnic areas with covers. Good bathrooms.
Linda Michel (Poohbearlinda)

A very nice place to send a few days.
Bathrooms are very clean, some sites are shaded, hosts are very helpful and friendly.
tami morrison
Very nice campground with large campsites. We went there with 5 spots and it was very clean.
Moises Lopez
Awesome place to float a river. You start in Barton and float all the way down to Carver. Current is not that strong, i recommend it
karalynne wood
